Honest prices, amazing food, amazing place, amazing waiters and bartenders specially Ursula, Val and Oisin! 11/10
Great service today! Our waitress Val was serving the outside/front section and she was wonderful — super nice with a great attitude. Really made the experience better!
Great bar. I came with my family over Christmas and enjoyed taking advantage of their very generous happy hour prices. Upon leaving my mother in law realized she left her AirPods in the bar. This being central NYC I assumed they would be forever forgotten, but I called and the manager was really helpful, found them, and I collected the following day. I think this reflects really well on the bar, when I came to collect the manager was hugely helpful and friendly. Now a regular.
Fun, local bar. Lovely, just the right amount of busy. Friendly, attentive bartenders.
Been coming to this Bar for about 5 years now, it's one of those places that feels very homey and fun, the Staff and management are great always making sure their customers are good and making sure the atmosphere is 10/10. One of my favorite things about them is when they Decorate the place especially for Halloween and Christmas :). I definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing some food and drinks while you're in the city.
John Doe Carft Bar, is a very cozy and welcoming bar with great atmosphere and music. Super nice staff who do a great service. Here you like to spend your time or a few hours and drink, eat delicious for really good prices. The next time I'm here in New York again, I'll definitely come by. See you soon :) Best regards K.W
I had a few minutes before a 5:30 meeting laat night and came across John Doe's. Cool spot awesome vibes, friendly staff. So nice that after my meeting at 8:30 I went back and then BAM!, more awesomeness! The staff was electric, the atmosphere was smooth, easy, the music was just right. Both the male and the female bartenders made me and my friend feel like we were regulars even tho it was our 1st.time. the drinks were on point! I had the nachos with chicken which was slamming! I woke up this morning to check my cc receipt just to make sure it wasn't all a dream lol. Great job guys, I will be back again and again!.
I stopped here while waiting for a friend. The drinks were tasty and bartenders made me feel right at home. Seems like a great place to meet after work for groups of any size. The staff seemed to really enjoy themselves and bring a great atmosphere.
Great bar with an amazing vibe! Alex the bartender is the star! super friendly, attentive, and makes incredible drinks. He made me feel welcome right away and his recommendations were perfect. Definitely gonna be my go to bar!
We stopped by here on a whim on our last night in NYC and are so happy we did :) Alex (bartender) was fun, energetic, and made us feel safe. Someone at the bar made us (2 girls) really uncomfortable and Alex came to our rescue. Thanks Alex! We only intended to stay an hour or two but stayed the whole night! We will remember this place for next time :) Glad we have a picture lol
My friends and I happened to find this place looking for a quick bite to eat before going to Museum of Sex for my birthday, which was just a minute walk away!(so convenient). Amazing cocktails for amazing prices especially considering the location/ ambiance. Really great food. We went back for more drinks after going to the museum. Great service as well! Will definitely be a go-to for when I’m in this area! My friends and I recommend the frozen strawberry margarita, the regular margarita and chicken/ fries! Will definitely be trying the oysters next time!
Great staff, the host and server were excellent to start, then my food was great. Id been craving a good steak for weeks and found no joy but here i had a perfect med rare NY stip steak that cut like butter and tasted dreamy. My dinner companion ate something, i couldnt tell you what because i was in my own little steak induced heaven but they seemed to have a similar experience.
Great little spot on the main drag that we stumbled into to have a pint. Bartender was super friendly, a lad fresh from the Eire with less than two years under how belt in America.. Made you feel welcome. Decor was great for the holidays. I went with a Sweet Tarts Cape Cod Cranberry sour, which wasn't as sour as I would have liked.
Delicious brunch and amazing happy hour! Service was great too. They also have TVs to watch games on.
We LOVE John Doe and the whole crew there. We make it a point to visit John Doe whenever we’re in the City. The vibe is fantastic! The drinks are fab and the food is terrific. Special shout out to the guys in the kitchen during the afternoon of Saturday 11/5. I wanted an order of wings as hot as they could do…they did not disappoint. Thank you! If you’re looking for an awesome, unpretentious, fun place to grab a drink and have a bite, look no further.
Amazing atmosphere and phenomenal food!! We had the bangers and mash, Shepards pie and the biggest raw oysters I’ve seen! Cocktails were also amazing! Definitely stop in!
I was prepared for letdown but found the opposite at this place. Their menu shows culinary creativity while delivering standout taste experiences. Stumbling upon this spot was fortunate! The cost, generous servings, excellent food, and employees justify perfect marks. I truly believe in this place, and you will soon too.
Hands down the best Irish beef stew I’ve had in New York! Great staff & and Great food! Definitely worth checking out… Alex needs to work on the music though ;) wonderfully decorated for the festive season!
Came during Friday happy hour. All of the drinks were delicious and the $1 oysters were delicious and very fresh. All of the staff were very attentive and welcoming. We highly recommend coming here. The vibes are great.
John Doe Bar & Kitchen was such a good time. Their happy hour was one of the best in the city. Most of the drinks we ordered were $6 to $10 and it went until 8pm. They made a really good margarita too. The staff and service were impeccable and the nachos, mozzarella sticks and the honey mustard wings were outrageous. Next time I’ll definitely try the Buffalo. I bet those are really good too!!
Had 2 dogs with us, sat outside. Entire staff was VERY dog friendly!! Thanks! Got "pup cups" for the dogs, and lotsa pets. Food was generous portions. Loved it and will wander back next time we're in NYC.
We stopped by with our group of nine before our dinner reservation nearby. We got lucky and were able to grab a couple tables next to each other. The drinks and oysters were great. Our server was super sweet, and the Christmas decor created an amazing ambience! The TVs were also nice to catch the football game that some in our group were watching. We will be back!
John Doe has become one of my new favorite brunch spots in NYC. Located on 5th avenue right between two of NYC’s most iconic spots ~ the Flatiron and the Empire State Building ~ John Doe Craft Bar & Kitchen serves a wide variety of specialty cocktails, and the most creative dishes that will definitely become your new obsessions! Happy hour is from 11 AM to 8 PM & they have weekend bottomless brunch! I ordered the Titos Tea for a cocktail and it was so crisp and refreshing. The Pink Gin Spritz was also a spectacular option! My favorite brunch dish that I got to try was the Hangover Burger and I added parmesan truffle fries to the order. It was absolutely incredible. If you are in NYC, you need to check them out they do not disappoint!
Amazing food!! Had delicious fresh oysters for a great price. Cocktails were phenomenal!! When one of our steaks was slightly underdone, our waitress Megan was super understanding and brought out a perfectly cooked steak to replace it. Manager Josh was so kind about it and made sure we were happy with our meal. All around incredible food, drinks, and service. Can’t wait to go back!! Highly recommend
This place is one of my faves in the city. A few friends and I had dinner here and enjoyed. John Doe is the everything bar. Great for Date night, sports bar, girls or guys outing and more they have something for everyone. We got amazing drinks and delicious food we had Drinks: SPRING IN YOUR STEP TITOS TEA SANGRIA Grumpy old man Finest on fifth Love it or hate it Food Truffle fries Oysters Shepard's Pie Chicken Quesadilla French onion soup Everything was amazing but my faves were the wings and for drink spring in your step
I’m obsessed with this place!!! The food is simply delicious! Whether you’re looking for bar staples like nachos or elevated bar food or fun & creative fusion dishes you’re sure to find it all under one roof here! They’ve got fantastic cocktails, $1 oysters, an unbeatable happy hour and the service is so warm! Ask for Joshua he is your NYC vibe curator!
Nice ambiance! Nice place with inside and outside seating. They do have special $1 oysters all day every day. Huge selection of draft fresh beers And full bar with a lot of appetizers The serve draft beer on frozen glasses so I definitely will be back again and again Nice music, friendly bartenders and staff! Great place to have few drinks and Hang out
Amazing drinks! Would recommend the Grumpy Ole Man or Strawberry Cider. My partner & I ordered the Monday burger special and Oysters. Oysters were delicious. So delicious we had two dozen of them. Definitely worth a go, good environment and really friendly staff. The owner came by to check on us and he was such a lovely person. JD, we’ll be back!!
John Doe is an amazing and inclusive bar/ restaurant. Our waiter Megan was incredible, super sweet and knowledgeable of all products on the menu. When my steak dinner unfortunately came out a little undercooked she was very apologetic and was happy to have it fixed. The manager Josh also came out to apologize and checked up after the meal perfectly came back. 10/10 experience for my date night an we will be back again
BEST DEAL IN NYC ALERT! I had a hard time believing this was true until I saw it myself Anytime, not just during happy hour, can you get these beautifully plump one dollar oysters with all the fixings. Someone recently went viral here for eating over 70 oysters and although I won’t be doing that in this video, Lord knows I’m up for the challenge Great spot for a Halloween dinner date or to watch the Yankees try to win a game this week! Happy Hour here is also absolutely wild with $5 pints of beer and $7 wine
My bf and I went here for a night out, we enjoyed everything so much. The vibe was almost like a pub with tvs and great specials. We had the oysters ( my bfs first time) we were in love! We also had the pasta 10/10 and the fish tacos 10/10 wow. The house rose was just right and the food came out at perfect timing and fast. All in all we had an amazing experience.
I walked in on a Monday afternoon and was a very soothing vibe. Mild music playing around with a less than average crowd density since it was afternoon. The music picks up after evening and gets really busy. I tried the cocktails and chicken cheese naachos. The food was great and so were the cocktails to say the least. Alex took good care of me and was super attentive and loving, kudos to her! Would definitely visit again.
This is my go-to spot whenever I’m craving oysters! They’re just $1 each during happy hour — such a great deal. I love the chill vibes, especially the outdoor seating. The drinks also have happy hour prices, which makes the whole experience even better. Always a perfect place to relax and enjoy fresh oysters!
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink with some friends. Had no issues getting a spot right at the bar and woman behind the taps was not only funny, but very helpful and attentive and is really the reason I liked the place so much! The place has great drink specials for happy hour, and besides the price they are also well made. Didn't get the chance to try the food, but I sure was tempted with everyone ordering around us what seemed like really some good classic pub food. If I'm ever around the area, I'm definitely inclined to come back and try more.
Doe Restaurant delivers an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. It’s rare to find food this consistently impressive—John Doe Restaurant is absolutely worth a visit and easy to recommend. John Doe Restaurant is perfectly situated in a prime, easy-to-access location that immediately adds to the overall experience. The surrounding area is welcoming and vibrant, making it an ideal spot for both casual visits and special occasions. Whether arriving on foot or by car, the location is convenient and stress-free, and the atmosphere around the restaurant enhances the enjoyment of the meal. It’s a place that feels well chosen, thoughtfully placed, and truly inviting.
We had lunch at John Doe Craft Bar & Kitchen and had an amazing experience! Our server was so nice and welcoming. We ordered the potato skins and loved them. The food was great quality and so flavorful! We visited at lunch on a weekday. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in, promptly seated, and our food arrived quickly. Highly recommend John Doe Craft Bar & Kitchen!
John does is my coworkers and I’s favorite place to hang out. The staff there is absolutely exquisite. Our server, Oisin, was absolutely so splendid and delightful!! He took such great care of us, was so attentive and kind. The FOH manager is absolutely wonderful, always jolly and accommodating. Love seeing his face. The staff is always so friendly and go out of their way to make you feel wonderful. The oysters are delicious, and their happy hour is also great. Awesome beer and cocktails. In the summer, the outdoor seating can’t be beat. This place is a classic in my rotation and I bring many friends here. Will always go back for a John Does ale and oysters.
Sat on their dog friendly patio with our small pup a few weekends back. The girl server was very on the ball, the guy was more laid back but his friendliness made up for it. The food and drinks were all very good. We had the Buffalo Mac and cheese with chicken to start and that was a full meal in itself! The house salad was hearty with the pecans and feta, I would do a different dressing next time. The penne was also very good, there were onions which we did not expect. Overall, everything was above average and we'd certainly go back in the area.
Neighborhood New York vibe. Presents like a sports bar - but no-one watches screens. This is a place to reconvene after work: Vent, celebrate or commiserate. Food: Taco Tuesday is fun. Sliders and dumplings, calamari round out an eclectic menu. But it’s the frozen drinks that seem to attract the regulars. Perhaps next time…
Nice bar. Just had one beer and friends had oysters. They said they were good. Would definitely go back
A nice enough bar that is unique by having some tables outside on the pavement - in the busy area this is a great spot to relax with a drink and watch the world go by. The service is proactive and the prices are sensible, so I’ll be returning!
Came here a couple of times while visiting New York First time on a Friday evening nice beer but the place was so noisy couldn’t hear each other. Beers were excellent, good choice of craft beers on tap. Menu was diverse and good options, disappointed with the Mac and Cheese as it was only warm not nice and hot, however the loaded potatoes were excellent as were the slider specials All in a good bar with an excellent vibe and top beers.
The atmosphere is excellent. The staff is friendly and treat you like you been a regular customer for years. Even though it was your first time. The brunch menu is also excellent. Alway like shipping by when I am in the area for drinks and there wings.
Great place for drinks! The drinks were very delicious and reasonably priced. Place is also decorated great for Christmas. Lots of TVs to watch sports if needed. However, food needs a little work. The chicken dumplings are really good, but the fries need salt and some more seasoning. Just kind of not worth ordering. I’ll definitely give this place another try. The staff is super friendly and always hustling
Place is hit or miss. Security turned me away from after-work drinks because I had a water bottle on my bag. Service can be good though
Visited for after hour drinks with my sister. We ordered a Grumpy Old Man and a Berry Margarita. We only ordered the Berry Margarita because the Grumpy Old Man was strong as HELL. You ever sipped a drink and knew it was going to be straight liquor and you just hold it in your mouth prepping yourself to swallow it? Yeah, that's what we did until after awhile we just asked for a drink switch ....which also wasn't that great. The Berry Margarita was cool,.nothing special. It felt like we kept drinking and the drink wasn't budging. We love us some oysters and they're only $1 all day and they were pretty good, I'd give them 7.78/10, wasn't bad but wasn't the greatest we've had either. If you wanna hear music from 2015 and prior and live your nostalgia, come and visit.
Servers were really slow. I had to ask the server almost 5 times to get the check. I am sure this place is busy because of the happy hour oyster so the management can do better in customer service . Oyster quality is the same with the price of what you paid for (it is not fresh). This is a place that you want to go for cheap oysters in Manhattan if you don’t mind about quality. But be prepared of 30-40 mins for 12 oysters and appetisers.
Very frustrating experience. My friends and I were aggressively kicked out by security — pushing and yelling — even though we were aware of the closing time and were already leaving. We are regular customers, yet were told “don’t come back,” which was completely disrespectful. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and leaves a very bad impression. Management should seriously reconsider the attitude and professionalism of their security staff.
Went here with a groups of people a few weeks ago. For some reason, none of the servers write your order down, it all from memory. This caused a lot of problems as I had to order my food three times before it came out. The second time, they only brought half of the order and then argued with me and told me that I didn’t order the other half. After 30 minutes and 3 different servers, I finally got my food. Would not recommend if table is larger than 1 person.
Me and my friends just stopped by for a quick beer after the shift. I ordered my favorite “Allagash White” which is a wheat beer... the lady-bartender gave me some clear colored ipa-ish beer. As long as I am working at the bar/restaurant industry for years I just asked her if she gave me the right kind of beer. She being very rude told me that she knows what she is doing and I am the TERRIBLE PERSON AND SHE WANTS ME TO LEAVE.... well I am sorry. But I am not paying for what I didn’t ask for and I am not even willing to drink... the worst experience ever. Everybody makes mistakes but here the question of the attitude...and professionalism... Reply to the Owner: Ms. Donna it was a last night 7/17 around of 11pm. I am sorry for giving that kind of review. But it was something extraordinary. I've never been treated this way. and I never leave any reviews. If I prefer this kind of beer I probably have drink it a multiple times before at multiple other places. But the lovely lady was trying to convince me that I am wrong.... Being a server/bartender my own I would just OFFER to switch a beer to another kind.....
I have a temp ID after having my wallet stollen- I showed the bouncer and he said no he couldn’t accept it. I said I had a photo of my stolen ID and my temp has a barcode to scan and he said now and I was very frustrated by this. I said this was a legal document and he said it was for the cops but they weren’t the cops so it didn’t apply and then said the reason I wasn’t coming in was because I was disrespectful which is as also frustrating. I left but it’s frustrating that I have all the legal documentation needed to get into a bar as a 30 yr old but because one person doesn’t deem that enough it because a situation where this person is yelling I’m not allowed in because of the disrespect when I was not and I had all proper documentation
I visited this bar on a Saturday night. The service was good, but the bouncer was very rude. He doesn’t know how to talk to guests. he literally shouted at me because I was smoking outside. I understand that every bar has rules, but staff should know how to speak to guests respectfully. They should train their security on how to communicate with guests in a professional and respectful manner. This made the whole experience very dissatisfying. Respond to the owner's comment: Thank you for your response. I’d like to clarify a few points. When you mentioned that I had been informed many times over the past few weeks about the smoking policy, that’s actually not true. I was not repeatedly informed of this. If there had been prior communication, I would’ve gladly respected that request earlier. Also, I want to emphasize that I did mention in the beginning of my review that the service inside the bar was good. I have no complaints about the indoor experience or the staff working inside, they were friendly and welcoming. My concerns were specifically about the way the situation outside was handled and how it made me feel as a guest. I hope this helps clarify my perspective.
Had a really bad experience with the bartender, Alex. I felt discriminated against and treated unfairly. My friends agreed and said "He just doesn't like you" That's not the right attitude to have in an industry where customer service is key
I went into this store with my friends happily, and they treat me like I'm invisible. For any guidance or service, I wait five minutes where the staff is in sight, and I keep pretending I don't know. After ordering the beer, I knew I had to take it from the bar by myself, but it was very slow, and then I went to pick it up several times because I had to replace the keg, and there was a gap for a while, but the glass was left unattended in the bar. Our party's seat was at the entrance table. In this case, I think you have to bring it to us or call us. It was written on Google that it was open until 4 a.m., but it already says no sound and body orders are possible before 12 p.m. Also, you have to give information before choosing a side dish and write it down so that Google can know it.
I’ve never experienced anything like this at a bar before, and I feel compelled to warn others. My friend and I were customers here. I stepped outside briefly to catch an Uber and left my debit card behind while my friend remained inside the bar. Within minutes, staff accused us of trying to leave without paying, even though my friend never left. When I tried calling my friend to explain, an employee took her phone and refused to let her answer. We immediately paid the bill via Cash App, yet the situation escalated instead of being resolved. When I returned to ask for clarification, security became aggressive. Phones were forcibly taken out of our hands and thrown onto the sidewalk while security verbally harassed us. One security guard physically grabbed my friend, dragged her through the bar, slammed a door on her wrist, and held it there while she was on the ground. This was accompanied by repeated verbal abuse and taunting. At no point were we violent or threatening. The response from staff and security was completely disproportionate, unprofessional, and frightening. Regardless of any misunderstanding about payment, no establishment should ever treat customers this way especially when we are paying $175 for some drinks. This behavior reflects a serious lack of training, accountability, and basic human decency. I would strongly caution anyone considering coming here.
Visited here with my boyfriend weeks ago. We came for the late night food and $1 oysters. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and I got the penne alla vodka with steak. The pasta was okay, the wrap was a disaster. We also got 6 dozen oysters. The quality was mid, but it’s ultimately what you’d expect. Most importantly, the service was terrible. 中国人不骗中国人!One of the young men working on Sep 13 Saturday night shift, treated us very differently compared to other tables. We wanted to sit on the patio, and he said patio tables required leaving a card with them “just in case.” We didn’t think too much of it, so we did. Only noticed when we were leaving that he never asked any other tables to do the same thing. He never checked on us while we were eating either. Still, we paid in cash and left a 20% cash tip because I also work in the food industry, and the BOH staff shouldn’t be punished for this. But it was obvious there was a big difference in the way he treated us versus other customers. I would consider him racist. We didn’t bring it up to the manager because both of us were a bit drunk. If you’re Asian, don’t even bother with this place, we are not welcome here :(
