The bartenders are great at their job and they're welcoming to new patrons. Would definitely recommend for an outing with friends. Their rum punch is fantastic
Easily one of the best Hard ciders I ever had. Super nice staff, Great selection of beer, fantastic music, and top notch bar food.
I’ve been enjoying this place for many years. Great bar food and friendly service. Love the outdoor set-up; allowed me many opportunities to see friends through Covid. Keep on doing you, Lions Head.
Quality neighborhood bar. I frequent this place whenever I can't get my college football team's game at home. Lots of TV's crammed into the fairly small space, and I have always been able to get a bartender to put the game on of them. Best wings I have found in the city.
Love this place. Great service and food, atmosphere is top notch. You will have an awesome time at this local bar with your friends (or that special someone)! Come for the beer, stay for the FUN!
Loved this little Tavern. Made me feel like I was having a get together with friends at home. The staff was super nice and friendly. The food was great and drinks were amazing. Would definitely recommend. Nice little find
Great neighborhood dive bar. The wings are amazing here! Must try! They have a very nice beer selection and great mixed drinks. Very friendly bar
I have been to this particular tavern on several occasions for their wings and cheap beers. Wednesday nights they have dollar beers at 10 and best believe I have spent many a Thursday mornings feeling the ramifications of the night before. Also, Saturday afternoons offer 50 cent wings (I suggest the BBQ) and once again DOLLAR BEERS. What else do I have to say people? Dollars Beers and 50 Cent Wings (not the rapper). This place is also decorated with all kinds of cool stuff as well such as Thor's Hammer and Captain America's shield. Oh and the bouncer looks like Thor. ZeusX!
I had a wonderful time at this bar. The staff is extremely friendly and immensely competent. I had a group event here and everyone who attended raved about their experience. Even people unaffiliated with our event had a good time. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere, great to relax and enjoy some drinks or a favorite dish. The people are great .always very friendly and a smile 😊
It was our first time at this dive bar with great food and very attentive service but I have to say I loved the 80s music. It will be my new local go to spot for sports on many tvs , have fun and enjoy.
this past thursday (thirsty thursday!!!) i went over here & got the best service from this bartender Katie! she was so nice & helped my girlfriend with her food allergies & mixed us the best drinks left stuffed & feeling good 😎😎 10/10 will be back!!
Nice bar with good food for drinking. I like their quesadillas, fries, and tots. I'm sure the rest of their menu is good too. Great place to watch a Nets or Mets game!
Wow! Amazing experience here the other night. Thadeus was such a delight, and made my day. Definitely coming back for him!
The Lion's Head is a great casual place to grab a beer and a bite! The bartenders are cool and keep the drinks coming! I would recommend the buffalo chicken wrap any day. And I love a place with a jukebox!
I've walked by to this bar and restaurant multiple times from outside of my neighborhood area while I was going food shopping at a supermarket close to this place. They make good cocktail drinks and serve good food items from their menu.
I have lived in the neighborhood for four years and this is my favorite bar. The food is great. I don't know what they put in their salsa but I can't go a week without eating it.
Best dive bar in Morningside Heights! Cool outside dining ambiance, cheap beer, friendly staff, good food and never any waiting time. What else could you ask for in a bar?
The Teriyaki chicken wings are Delish! 10 for $17.83 a little overpriced tho- They used to be $1 each one 😭
Stopped in for a few drinks on a Wednesday at around 6 because we were having dinner in the area. Although it's a Mets bar (I'm not into baseball but I'm a Yankee fan by default, since my entire family is), it still had good vibes. Happy hour is until 8 PM - you can get $5 well drinks, $6 wine, and $2 off beer (which comes out to $5-$7). Our bartender was Nikki, and she was super nice. It's a shame we didn't get to try the food, since it had such good reviews. I probably wouldn't come back, just because it's so far uptown and I'm never in this area, but I'm still glad I discovered it.
Looks like a hole in the wall, but the food is AMAZING! Staff is super friendly. Brunch was exceptional. Definitely recommend stopping by.
Great bar! Kitchen open late, cool atmosphere, friendly bartenders. Pretty much the only drawback is how loud their music is.
Awesome wings and burgers, kitchen closes when the bar does (just gotta keep in mind that later in the evening it'll take longer to get your food as compared to traditional dinner hours). Great staff, generally very kind and considerate! I love this spot and I plan to keep coming back!
Classic UWS Bar with the BEST wings, and the BEST servers and bartenders!! Excellent sports viewing as well. A++
One of my absolute favorite spots in the city. The staff, the atmosphere, and holy disco tots their food is incredible. Seriously, try the disco tots! And the burgers. And the nachos. Just try everything! I highly recommend this gem!
Great options of beer. Fun trivia nights and a delicious menu of tasty treats. Delicious cajun dry rub wings and they have excellent chill dogs
Visiting NYC for the week and was staying in the area and wanted something quick and local that I couldn’t find back home. A quick google maps search got me to come to the Lion’s Head Tavern my first night and had a delicious Mew York hotdog and a simple cocktail. It was so good in fact and such an amazing atmosphere that I decided my last night in town I would eat dinner there yet again and tried the steak sandwich with a daiquiri. Amazing service and popular with the locals, everyone seemed to be regulars. If you’re ever in the upper west side this is a definite must have for a meal or a even just a drink.
I've been going to this bar the past two years. The food and service is always excellent, especially their burgers and wings! I wish the on tap menu expanded to more craft options, otherwise it's an amazing neighborhood bar.
Lion’s Head Tavern is one of the best places in Manhattan! This has become my go-to neighborhood bar. The bartenders are the best, although Brian the bartender has become my all-time favorite!! They’re all so personable, they remember not only your drink of choice, but your nom de plume as well. Definitely a great spot to unwind and chill. If you’re a sport’s fan, this place is your lucky score!
Was visiting New York with my boyfriend and we decided to stop by this spot—great wings, good atmosphere, the bartenders Thad and Emi made good drinks, will def be coming back on our next visit
Love this place, even though it’s a Mets bar lol, obviously I’m a Yankees fan lol. The food in this place is AMAZING. You’ll never get old food because everyone is constantly ordering from here. The bartender are awesome and very attentive. They host all sorts of events here so there’s always something to do. Lots of TV’s if you must watch a game or a fight. And depending on who’s working you’ll have a diversity of music. Check it out for yourself.
Lions head is the best spot to watch Saturday games and NFL. They have the best wings in the city and great finger food. I love the beer selection and the people. I've been going to Lions head tavern since it opened, even though I loved how it originally was, they have done major improvements with the whole place. Lions head is a small place and I love it for that.
I randomly stumbled on this place looking for a good wing spot in the neighborhood. They DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The hot Buffalo is perfectly spicy - not a burn your hole moment. The bartender was super sweet and there were probably like 6 tvs in this one spot lol. Highly recommend for wing seekers in the south harlem area.
I came here with friends after work and we had a lovely time. Even though they were experiencing a rush, customer service was exceptional. My favorite bartender was Noah, he exemplified the perfect balance between a wonderful experience and being knowledgeable of the bar & grill, I’ll definitely be back!
Classic (rare nowadays) neighborhood bar. Incredible seating set up creating space for small and large groups. It will be packed but you can still chat with your friends. Bar food is on till 2am I believe (or something crazy late like that). Loaded hotdogs are my favorite. They also have lunch specials. Tons of TVs around to watch games. (Wonder if they will stream Olympics) +Trivia nights Occasionally they have live music events. Worth the visit.
So I stumbled upon this place on a date, accidentally...and my date & I were both happy we did! The drinks (cocktails) we ordered tasted GOOD! And then the fries we got to coat our stomachs was also really well prepared and tasted really good. HIGHLY recommend this random bar! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
First time here and loved it! Friendly staff and a really fun trivia night. I ordered the chicken fingers which came with really delicious honey mustard. Plus they are a Mets bar, so now I have a new local spot to watch games. Definitely a place to come back to.
You can't ask for anything more from this local neighborhood staple! Food is great, drinks are made well, and the fantastic service brings it all together. Also, it's a Mets bar! LFGM!
Went here after reading about their hot dog in Jamie Loftus’s Raw Dog. It was incredible! The bartenders (Hailey and someone else whose name I didn’t get) were both incredibly friendly and made some incredible cocktails!!
Popped in after a day of exploring and the bar lady was so friendly and nice. We are visiting from the UK so was nice to speak to someone who knows the area/city. Great atmosphere, would recommend.
I'll recommend this place for so many reasons. First all the bartenders are more than friendly. The atmosphere is really nice, you can meet people from the closest university or simply share a drink with locals. All of them are friendly and you can either spend a moment with yourself only or share moments with local people. This is a really nice place I can recommend for everybody. Price are fair, service is good and you must try their burger. There is a little something from European bar here. Small enough to share and big enough to spend a moment with yourself. From downtown Manhattan to uptown Manhattan, this bar is my favorite! All that in a nice neighborhood, what else ? :)
Without a doubt one of the best bars in the area. Fantastic food. Wings and burgers seem to be the most popular option, but the surprise win is the hot dogs. Wherever they source their hot dogs, they are getting great ones, perfect snap, wonderful flavor. Oh, and beer.
Tbh I just wanted to say that this is the best bar, but the Columbia seniors that came in here on Wednesday, cheated during trivia (I saw you), threw up all over my coat, and then complained in these comments they were accused of cheating…when I saw that they did…should be banned from this bar.
Let me tell you about this place, there have been many bartenders at this place and management as well as Jay jay and Nicole always seem to pick a person that fits the place. The food is great here I love it here I have been going to Lions for 10 years and even tho I've moved when I go back to visit NY I always make a stop at lions. I've brought friends and family to this place and they always come back. This place is a part of the neighborhood and if your reading this you should go visit lions Ps don't be rude to the bartender and respect the place and you shall be treated with the same love And get you a BURGER( thank me later)
Good selection of beers. Wings can be ordered regular, crispy or extra crispy. Staff is professional. I have never seen a bartender looking at his or her phone. Food portions are large for the price. Some of the best wings in NYC.
Just had drinks and food in hear. The IPA is as good as beer from the UK. The food - wow. I ordered tats with chilli etc. There was enough for a family of 5. Lots of cheese and tasty salsa dip. Amazing value for money and friendly service.
Wonderful Space. Truly a bar thay grown-ups can go to and not feel outta spot. The staff is most excellent 👌🏿
Always playing great music, some of my fav wings in the city. Good vibes all around.
recently visited Lion Head Tavern and had a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a meal solo. Mikey, the bartender, was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure our drinks were always topped up and offering great recommendations from the menu. Speaking of which, the food was delicious! From hearty pub classics to more innovative dishes, there’s something to satisfy every craving. Overall, Lion Head Tavern gets top marks for its ambiance, service, and tasty fare. I’ll definitely be returning, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining and drinking spot in town!
Tried the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint! Fries were great too! And bartender Mike provided excellent service!
Love this place always a family atmosphere and great vibes I try to go every week definitely recommend to good people
Stopped by after a work event and decided to explore the bars in the area—and wah-lah, found a gem. Affordable beers, great vibe, and a really welcoming atmosphere. The bartenders were kind and attentive—pretty sure mine was Emi—shoutout to her for not pressuring me to grab another beer when I just wanted to chill. Sometimes you just want a place where you can unwind after work and be left alone if that’s the mood, and this spot definitely delivers. Overall, I’d absolutely come back if I’m in the area.
Superb neighborhood bar for NY sports nights, lots of TVs, fantastic bar food and an amazing beer and draft selection including something from every family of ales. The raspberry cream sour on the menu was a delight.
It's what one would expect from a neighborhood sports bar. One item of note: it's on a list of Boston Celtics sports bars in NYC. It's not a Celtics bar. It is a Knicks bar ... so still great. I had a friend from Boston visiting and thought it would be fun to see Knicks v Celtics at a NYC Celtics bar. Oh well. Once again... don't believe everything you read online :-)
This is easily the best bar around Columbia and truly an UWS gem. Great trivia night on Wednesdays, too. However, this last Wednesday, the trivia host and a bartender accused my squad of cheating in trivia since we were actually doing well for once. I didn’t appreciate these accusations, nor did I appreciate the guy who complained that we were “cheating”. Yeah… this guy couldn’t handle getting outsmarted and outplayed by some seniors in college (I’m gonna guess he goes to Columbia law). Crazy to think that a group of 6 men that all watch football don’t go 9/9 on Madden covers (we only needed 8 of them). And might as well assume that we don’t listen to Biz Markie, No Doubt, or the Cure while you’re at it. Maybe assume that we won’t successfully get a question about Wrigley Field correct even though I am from Chicago, too? But I digress. I didn’t appreciate people thinking we didn’t know our stuff solely on the basis of being among the youngest in the room. Will I continue to go here? Absolutely. And will I continue to buy $30 pitchers of Bud Light for my table? Definitely, despite having a college student level of disposable income. It is a tragedy that a blemish got placed on our great performance in what will be one of my last times at lion’s head trivia night, and I can guarantee that if we were cheating (which we were not), then we would not have lost on the final question. (New York trivia league– if you don’t want people having multiple phones out, don’t put a “just watch” option on your trivia page, for that implies that team members can have their phone out to also follow along on questions). Thank you lion’s head, and I’ll see you all next Wednesday. Edit: Not sure where the throwing up on a jacket story came from. That did NOT happen… it was 7:30pm on a Wednesday. Keep in mind, these are actual adults making up stories about a group of college guys that beat them in trivia. Pretty funny, honestly.
Great bar, great food, great service. Only issue is there were too many cheaters at trivia night! I seriously don’t understand how you could be so immature that you need to cheat at bar trivia to make yourself feel good. I honestly feel sorry for the group that was cheating because clearly they needed to boost their self esteem. It’s ridiculous that they denied cheating after I pointed out the absurd amount of questions that they had gotten right. From a young age my father taught me that dignity and honor are the most important things in life. When I was just 18, through hard work and dedication, I was able to gain access to my six figure trust fund. Before I left for college my father told me, “son, you’re the smartest person in the world. You’re destined to do great things in life and no one can stop you. If you EVER lose to anyone at bar trivia it must be because they cheated. There is no other possibility.” So clearly I knew that this group could not have known all those answers because I didn’t know them. If these scumbags are ever allowed to set foot in the Lions Head again, my father will be EXTREMELY upset, and you do not want that.
Awesome bar near Columbia Univ. Good Beer selection, delicious food and Cali is the BOMB! Friendly and good recommendations for my buddy and I that weren't an upset or a hustle. GO here, it's Great!
Had so much fun attending Christmas Karaoke night! The vibes were great, the singers entertaining, and everyone I was with enjoyed their drinks! Plus the bar staff offers zero-proof beers for anyone who is sober! Shout out to Emi for hosting a fun night! For sure will return for more karaoke in the future!
wow Wanted to try the new brunch. Only been offering it a few days and had a new chef today so I will cut them some slack. The French toast was awesome and the coffee is served in a French Press which is really nice. The combo breakfast is huge with lots of meat and eggs. The doughnuts are made to order and hot, but they are cake doughnuts so if you prefer the light style doughnuts like Krispy Kreme you will not care for these as much. These are great cake doughnuts, but they are cake. Overall it was nice, but it is a bar not a breakfast place. We will go back again for the French Toast, big combo breakfast and the French Press coffee for sure. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. This place is it! The outdoor dining is done correctly and their service is quite good for the volume of people that there on a Sunday afternoon. They accommodated us outside with a view of the tv as we watched a soccer match and we're super friendly about it. The wings were freakin delicious, super crispy and saucy and the French fries were crisp and tasty. I alsoordered the fried chicken off of the brunch menu which was to die for...a friend of mine got the steak sandwich which was also very good. The drinks were also a hit at our table i will definitely be back.
Nice neighborhood bar, popular with college students and Mets fans. I enjoyed a Mermaid Pilsner and a friendly welcome.
Oh man - this used to be THE best deal in all of NYC. Picture this: Noon to 6 on Saturdays - all you can drink beer AND all you can eat wings for $17!!! Then, they shortened it to 5 hours. Then, they used a ticketing system. Now it's dollar beers and $.50 wings. It's still an INCREDIBLE deal and the wings are great. It just isn't what it used to be...
Chicken was crispy. Lemonade was sour and sweet. #ketchupwasnormal
Pretty good, but pricy. They also don't have all of the sports channels. You can find all of the big games here, though. I recommend it if you're looking for a more upscale college bar
Pretty dive-y place, but the beer selection is surprisingly good. Food is pretty good too. Tons of TVs always playing sports. Lots of seating. Huge Mets bar.
I can't put a cost in because it varies depending on why you are there, but the prices are fair and reasonable. It is a dive bar that was built for sports. They have a bunch of TVs and will take care of you throughout the game that you want (Red Sox friendly). There comic-related stuff all over the wall is excellent as well.
The chili was fantastic. Served with nacho chips. The tater tots with bacon and cheddar yumalicious! Service a touch slow. However, not a reason not to go.
Went there to meet a bunch old college friends and one of them chose this spot. Mind you, he never been there at all and just looked it up...lol I was surprised by the coziness of the bar and all the things you want in a bar. The people were cool..service was cool but our seating was sort of awkward where the TVs were positioned. Not on them..we just go to get there earlier next time.👍Got the wings solid..I preferred the bbq but the rings of hot sauce around the mouths of some of the fellas told me that the buffalo weren’t so bad I guess😛So all in all we had a good time, had good laughs, and solid wings. Good specials on Miller highlifes..and just when i’m leaving..I found out they have darts!!!!! I used to always carry them..but next time for sure. Thanks for the good time.
Nice crowd. I had the medium hot wings and fries which were really good. The bartender Nicole, makes really good drinks too. Cool spot to hookup with friends.
Really great joint. When they have the good cook, this spot has some of the best food around. However, sometimes, they have a lesser cook (or I don't know why but...) the food drops two levels to mediocre.
Dive bar meets awesome Mets bobble-head collection. Go for the beer and stay for...whatever reason you choose. Went for a gathering of friends. Appreciated the friendly helpful service. Food was quick, well meaning and helped slow the absorption of suds. It all looked appealing as I watched it go to various tables. My meal was plentiful and adequate sustenance for the evening. Did I mention the awesome Mets bobble-head collection?
Big NY Mets/ sports bar. A little divey but food was good and great service. Indoor and Outdoor seating.
One of the old neighborhood bars still standing. This is a no nonsense, dive bar with bar food and great beer. The music is diverse and leaning toward the 90s "alternative pop" sounds so I'm happy. Since this place has been here for so long it has a following amongst the people who have lived here before gentrification. The food is basic bar food and reasonably priced. The beer is great and you can't beat the history. There are TVs but they're not "in your face" so you can watch a game or just have a drink. P.S. the bartenders are cute.
Great place to hang out with friends and play trivia on Wednesday nights!
Great disco Friday vibe. Great service. Aaron is a cool server. Good selection of booze. Lots of TVs for games. Great music
Avg bar. Nothing too spectacular. Drinks are what they are. Average. It's ok to drink and probably have a conversation about whatever current events. Pretty dull atmosphere.
Neighborhood tavern vibes, friendly and accommodating bartenders. Heated outdoor seating, though you still need to bundle. Cocktails tasted watery and failed to deliver a buzz.
It’s cute but just overpriced. The food is the best part tho somehow we got 20 wings with fries, a 10pc wing and 2 drinks and it ended up being like $80 dollars which is just egregious especially on Sundays for football. Go Yankees.
Good bar with a good set of quality drafts served by attentive bartenders. There is good seating indoors and outdoors. We only ordered drinks during happy hour. The bartenders are not good about mentioning that only certain drinks qualify for their happy hour special, so that was a little annoying to find out when we got the bill. Granted, we could have asked...but didn't, thought the sign outside mentioning the discount on drafts applied to all the beers, so our experience was tainted by that.
I have been a regular at LH for over 20 years. Cool place to hang out in, nice atmosphere. The food is pretty good. My favorites are the wings and the nachos. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is a few reasons. For one, in all the years that I've been coming here, it does not seem like one renovation or update has been made. The kitchen is teeny tiny. I don't know how they manage to work in that kitchen. The two bathrooms I'm sorry to say are really nasty. Not kept up with and dirty. The place obviously makes money, the owner Jay should really invest in doing some renovations. I understand it's a 'dive' bar, but I've been to dive bars that are clean and their bathrooms are spotless. There's a lot of room for improvement there. Also, lately, they never have a good beer selection. I'm not sure what's going on, but they are very limited with beer selections which is not good. Other than that, the bartenders are super nice, the owner's wife is so sweet and always moving around doing something. She's great. A few updates/renovations and this place would get 5 stars from me.
This was one of my favorite neighborhood places that I used to be somewhat of a regular at. Good selection of beer, seasonal cocktails, and a great chicken sandwich. Between that and comfortable outdoor seating it was a great place to grab a drink to catch up with some friends. Somewhat disappointed today by the attitude of the hostess (or maybe manager?) who interrupted twice while I was asking a server about the music (lately they seem to have been playing lout music indoors earlier than they have in the past, which isn't my favorite on a lazy Saturday). She interrupts twice with "if it's not your vibe it's not your vibe", and "it's Saturday, live a little!". Doesn't feel like the way I'd want to be treated at a neighborhood place as a regular, so I will think twice about returning.
Good bar, good wings. Unfortunately online orders can be a huge hit or miss. Ordered wings but got a flavor I didn’t order. Also every time I go here they give me blue cheese instead of ranch, even though I ask for ranch every time. GIVE ME RANCH NOT BLUE CHEESE!
Small bar with average buffalo wings. Definitely a local spot for the surrounding grungy sports fans. Good prices for food and pitchers but zero waiter/waitress help. All food and alcohol must be ordered at the bar. Overall not impressed, would rather stay home and watch the game with a six pack.
I hate giving bad reviews but… yesterday my cousin went to lion head restaurant (he’s not from nyc ) he told me the food was really good and he brought me back a Asian salad from there the taste was good when I took a last bite of the chicken I noticed that the texture was different and it was undercooked…. It was my first time trying their food there and to see and eat some under cook chicken was not good at all I can get sick from it…
This place SUCKS! and the whole neighborhood knows it, probably why their business is doing so poorly. i ordered food for take out and gave the bartender exact change, apparently she was upset about that because she never put in my order but KNOWINGLY kept telling me to wait for 45 mins to then finally have the other bartender tell me it was never placed. Due to their lack of customer service, they will continue to lose customers.
Went in at 2:05, just missed the kitchen and sat down for a drink with my girlfriend Watched as the bartender ignored us and served another couple who walked in a couple minutes after us (no one else at the bar) After about 5 minutes of trying to catch the bartenders attention and failing we walked out, this is the third time I’ve walked out so it’ll be the last!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS BAR! The drinks are overpriced and watered down and not worth it. Also the clientele is extremely creepy and ladies should avoid at all costs. Better bars like 1020 or Suite are down the street so do your self a favor and avoid this creepy nightmare.
Went there to watch a game. Started out by ordering two non-alcoholic beverages. I was served by a nice waiter and a nice waitress (both early - mid 20s). All of a sudden, after a total of 15 min. of being there, enjoying the game and minding my own business, this scruffy looking bar-woman, (big eyebags), comes up to me and says "I have to ask you to leave, if you don't start ordering food!". The bar seemed pretty empty and not about to be full later, so I was pretty perplexed. The irony is that I was just about to order food, but left and ended up at a nicer bar to enjoy the game.
The food was terrible, over fried and oily everything. Had the fried pickles. Add the sweet touch, super racist environment. They didn’t put our order in but had security and another guy intensely watching us while we were waiting for no food. No waiter check on us and it wasn’t until we finally (after an hour) decided to say something, did they even realize our order wasn’t put in. The place was super empty. Then when the waiter apologized to us, we pulled out our cards and the moment we did, the guy who was staring us down for an hour decided to come over and take our card and check away so fast. Hated the place. Horrible food. Never going back. Super creepy guys working there.
