We had a great experience at the Blue Dog Cookhouse and Bar for brunch! Augustine took great care of us! He was friendly, fast, and efficient at his job. Definitely a keeper! The owner Steve was so friendly and made us feel like family, not to mention, the food was delectable. The pumpkin stuffed french toast was melt in your mouth! Definitely recommend for a great meal, beautiful ambience, and friendly service while in NYC!
Solid Midtown brunch spot. The caprese toast was fresh and light, and the burger was juicy with perfectly caramelized onions. Relaxed vibe, good for families.
Blue Dog brunch was FABULOUS! my daughter and I were in the city for a mother daughter trip— this was our favorite breakfast. My daughter has delightful pink raspberry pancakes, a side of eggs and juice (in a MASSIVE glass mug!). I had crab cake eggs benny and a latte. Staff were so kind, food was delicious and the cozy interior was so dang welcoming. We came early in the day on a Sunday and had the place practically to ourselves. It’s tucked away with a bit of an odd entrance (not super well marked)— but worth the effort to find! We stopped here en route to the American girl store.
Make a reservation! Even for breakfast and small parties. The seating is very limited. Definitely glad we had breakfast here. High recommend the Nutella s’mores stack (pancakes) or the Oreo crusted waffles.
Great little restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is attentive. We had the sliders, perfectly cooked. The caesar salad was delicious. We loved the spinach artichoke dip, it seemed to be made with ricotta which was a pleasant surprise. We only wish we had more pieces of toast for it. The brussels sprouts were delicious too, beautifully roasted. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, good for a date. They have old movies on a projector screen which is a fun touch. Definitely will be back for their acclaimed brunch.
We went for brunch before a show and the food was amazing. The menu had a wide variety of lots of options and the service was great! Steve and Augustine made sure we were well taken care of. The bartender, Darwin was welcoming and made delicious drinks!! We will definitely be back soon. Glad we found this gem.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating to my group of five. We had to wait on some of our group but were assured that we’d be seats and we in fact were seated fast. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. I had the crab cake Benedict and enjoyed every bite. The table also had a crispy French toast to share!
This place is such a hidden gem and has me wishing we could eat there everyday! We went twice while visiting NYC for Christmas. Once for dinner & once for breakfast. Everything was fabulous- from the service, the atmosphere, cocktails and of course the food. I am still dreaming of the short rib burger!! 10/10 highly recommend. We will definitely be back when we are back in the area.
I went to Blue Dog NYC for an early dinner, and the experience was surprisingly warm and satisfying. One of the first things people ask is “Is Blue Dog good for dinner or mainly brunch?” —and honestly, their dinner options were just as solid as their daytime menu. The ambience was cozy and inviting, with a relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to unwind. Another common question is “Do you need reservations?” —and while they take walk-ins, having a reservation definitely helps during busy hours. The service was attentive and friendly, with staff who checked in often and made sure everything was running smoothly. People also ask “How long does the food take?” —and in my experience, the dishes came out quickly and consistently. The food itself was flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared, especially the classic comfort dishes they’re known for. “Are the portions good?” —yes, generous without being overwhelming. Another big FAQ is “Is it good for groups?” —it works, but it’s especially comfortable for small parties or casual meals. Overall, Blue Dog delivered great service, delicious food, a welcoming vibe, and a smooth early-dinner experience.
We gave our breakfast a 10/10. The Raspberry Pancakes and S'more Pancakes were to die for! The crab cakes were also delicious but in our opinion could have used a nice dipping sauce. Great vibrant atmosphere, with friendly and attentive staff. Overall, a great way to start the day (once you can find the entrance… we had to walk around a few times). Highly recommend.
Blue Dog Cookhouse is a cozy gem on W. 50th St. that serves a nice varied menu of pastas, seafood, burgers and also brunch every day. We went for dinner and Travis, the manager, was very welcoming while seating us. Our drinks were well-crafted and timely, and the chicken dumplings appetizer was fantastic - great flavor and beautifully presented. The seared Atlantic salmon with citrus infusion and quinoa was deliciously tangy; the pan seared thyme chicken was very juicy and served with sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes; the crusted Ahi tuna with balsamic glaze was as excellent as I'd hoped and was paired well with wasabi mashed potatoes. A side of hand-cut fries was also very well made and devoured by the table. I'm onlky sorry I didn't take photos of the meal! Our server Darwin kept the meal moving nicely, a feat in the close quarters there. We suggest reservations, especially if you're going to the nearby New World Theater. The Blue Dog is definitely worth a visit!
Visited for dinner before a show since it is located quite close to the Broadway theatres. I ordered their braised short ribs dish, and the meat was savoury, tender, and delicious. The flavour of the sauce reminded me of a recipe used in my family for another beef dish, which was very comforting. The service was warm and efficient from all of the staff. Cozy and welcoming space. Highly recommended for a dinner before or after a Broadway show.
Wow - simply amazing service and the food is off the charts. We started off with mac and cheese balls, and glazed salmon along with the filet and some drinks, finishing with churros. Everything was unreal delicious and drinks on point. Highly, highly recommend The Blue Dog. *One disclaimer - do not come during peak hours if you have personal space issues...they stack people/tables VERY tightly, but I feel the experience is more than worth it. Just wanted to mention that as a possible issue as a non-New Yorker...
Had a delicious dinner here last night before the theater. These shrimp rolls with salmon roe are a serious must try dish here along with the tuna tartare app. Crab cake sliders are always a must of course. And don’t skip out on this drink menu we certainly didn’t This is their Autumn Harvest burger with pumpkin aioli The short rib with horseradish mash is another must try item here Don’t skip the steak frites here, it’s a massive portion
Steve and crew went out of their way for my large party of 12, celebrating my daughter's 21st birthday before seeing a show at New World Stages. In fact, Steve came outside to show us the cut through to the theater when we left. All of the food was delicious. I read reviews with people complaining about no AC, but maybe it's fixed now bc we were comfortable. There was one fan in the corner near us, but the weather was in the 80s that day, and we were fine. Also, I was nervous bc the reviews stressed how close the seats are. I am a large person and sat at the end of the table and was perfectly fine. I was near the bathroom door, and there was still plenty of room for people to walk behind me. Our party ordered the Croquet Madame, Nutella S'mores pancakes, omelet, pretty in pink pancakes, eggs benedict, both vegan options, the Cheesus Christ, CCBLT and Strawberry Taragon salad. Everything came out quickly (about 20 minutes after we ordered) and was delicious. We also had dessert, and everyone liked that as well. We will definitely be back! Don't miss this place before or after a show at NWS.
This place is a total hidden Gem! The food was outstanding, and each dish was better than the next one. Service was superb, and ambiance was cute and homey feeling. I would highly recommend going to this place. It's tough to come in as a walk-in, so I recommend getting reservations ahead of time if you want guaranteed spots. Otherwise, you're more likely to wait. Since seats are limited and the place is small. This would be perfect for a romantic dinner.
We ordered Ricotta with scallops which are amazing ! It's filled with so much flavor. This is the winner of the night. Tuna Tartare is very fresh and has good flavor to it. Short Ribs Burger came with shoestring fries. The fries are really crispy. Love these ! As for the drinks, we had Basil Margarita and Espresso Martini which are fabulous ! So refreshing ! Chocolate layer cake is such a sweet treat. I like that this venue plays classic movies for us to enjoy while dining. It was Three Stooges while I was there. The black and white pictures and mirror on the wall match the movie theme. This is a great place for date night or any other special occasions.

Really enjoyed our breakfast shielded from the hustle and bustle of midtown. The food was excellent and the service very friendly and welcoming.

Cute cozy place near Broadway! Gnocchi was phenomenal. Easy walk to Broadway show! drinks were delicious! Will try again!
Amazing food and service Nothing too much trouble drinks were nice too. What a great place to dine We will definitely return
We went for breakfast. The short rib Benedict was perfectly delicious. Companion had a waffle with fresh baked sour dough. Highly recommend!
We had brunch here recently. Kinda hard to find location( at least the entrance is). Small quaint dining environment. Seating packed together but service, drinks and food were excellent.

Good brunch restaurant. Two friends and I went to Blue Dog for lunch. Although we had a reservation, somehow they couldn’t find it. Nevertheless the manager found a way to accommodate us on a counter style seating. We ordered the short rib burger, the huevos rancheros and the iron harvest salad. We found the food good but short of excellent. Overall, we felt this is a good brunch style restaurant for those who are looking for brunch food. Since the dining room is small, having a reservation is key.

Pretty crammed little place, food came out quickly, maybe too quickly- cold potatoes, salad that had clearly been dressed hours before and still served, and expensive. Wouldn't recommend.

Looking for brunch place and this hit the spot. Nice menu, smoothies delicious and food very good. Smaller place so will probably sit at table with other diners. Fair price for the area
So I’m kinda mixed on feelings with this place. The staff was very nice. Had no issues with them. The food itself was good. Both of my coffees were not hot, even after asking for the next one to be hot, it was warm at best. The area is VERY small. Almost uncomfortably small. You’re sitting on top of each other and the party next to you in the corner. It’s def not cheap, but it’s NYC lol . Also, don’t plan on paying with a credit card, their “system is down” and you have to pay cash or Venmo some person at the restaurant. Overall, it was a nice brunch but I honestly don’t think I’ll be returning 😔
I got the notorious dog and it was fantastic, overall a great burger. The Patty itself was kind of bland lacking fundamental seasoning, but the dressing and everything else were able to compensate it and the Patty itself was cooked perfectly medium. Everything else was rather disappointing, especially the "signature" deviled eggs... There was nothing devilish about it, It was just a well cooked egg with some topping. I think the ambiance and the location are great, but I wonder if it's worth a revisit.

This restaurant is cute but tiny. Reservations are definitely recommended. We had high hopes based on the good reviews, but our experience didn’t live up to the hype. The food just wasn’t very good. I got the soup, which was oddly gritty. There’s nothing I love more than deviled eggs, so I got “deviled eggs our way” on the side. I’m really not sure why they’re called deviled eggs, nor why they’re on the menu. I tried guac and chips, and received a hard boiled egg covered in guac. The squash version was a hard boiled egg with a spoonful of squash on top. It was sad and not tasty. My friend ordered the steak salad. There’s nothing salad was tiny and the steak was unappetizing. It was thin, fatty, and overcooked. It may well be that we didn’t get the best items on the menu, but with all the restaurants in Manhattan, this isn’t one I’d recommend.
