Oh man, sit back and let me tell you... We were trying to eat across the street, but they were serving some sort of off-script "dinner" menu that was not what we wanted. The Viand was not even on our radar as a place to eat, but they were close... and serving pancakes and eggs at night, plus some sort of delicious "country" burger. They even had Lagunitas IPA on tap. The whole family was pleased. I don't know what they ordered, because I ate everything in the last paragraph and I'm still full. Recommend.
Fantastic service and tasty food. We went around 9 AM on Sunday and ordered the challah french toast, the egg and piggy sandwich, and the Greek omelette. All the food arrived to the table at the perfect temperature and well prepared. But out of all of them, I would recommend the toast.
The turkey dinner here is absolutely amazing. The stuffing is so flavourful and delicious, the dark meat turkey is moist and tender, and the gravy is great. The price is great considering the huge portion size also. There's usually not a wait for a table or a long wait for food, so that is nice also. I've found occasionally the food doesn't come out super hot, or the odd dry piece of turkey, but in general it is very good. I've been here many times. Their other food is great also!
We are from Cali and was Our first time eating breakfast in the city and it was SO good. The staff was fast, friendly, and kept my coffee cup full! kids loved it, too. LARGE portions!! I ordered the avocado toast and could’ve shared! SO GOOD! don’t pass them up!!!!
I thought, okay, a diner. But it's so much more: a clean, casual, relaxed, full service restaurant with a wonderful selection of delicious food. The staff could not have been nicer. A lovely experience! I'll be back.
We had post-graduation brunch for eight--the service was excellent, and the blueberry pancakes were fantastic! Atmosphere was cheery and just right for an upscale family diner. Will happily go again.
Upscale but classic NYC diner. We had breakfast- great selection, good eggs and hash browns, sizable portions. Bottomless coffee, really good service.
Always extremely fast and kid friendly. The guy in front (I think his name was Jimmy) was handling a busy Sunday crowd but still managed to make everything work well.
Viand is a classic diner serving up great food, great diner ambiance and the service sets the bar high. I ordered food to go and upon picking up my order, the bartender went over my order it was then I realized I had ordered incorrectly. The bartender (I later found out is Olga) made sure they corrected my mistake, yes you heard that correctly. She took care of everything and assured I’d get the correct order. I have been back many times and Olga and staff have always been superior. Never disappoints!!
The food was good. Also, this place had great coffee.
We LOVE this place and eat there several times a week! Every single thing on the menu is delicious and the service is always perfect!
Diner food shouldn't be expensive, but then this is New York City. This place is actually very reasonably priced for the portion size and quality. I came here twice and the food is consistent. The atmosphere is also much nicer than most diners. It is very cozy and friendly- a nice place to come with friends. It is my go-to in the UWS for a diner food fix. Tip: their homemade jams are excellent and they come with toast with any egg dish.
My family visited this place last year when my son participated in a track event through the weekend. We found this place by accident and thought about the great food and atmosphere for a full year. Back at Nike Nationals, we looked forward to revisiting this restaurant. Still great food! Locals would come in, know the staff by name, and leave with full bellies and smiles. I look forward to visiting again next year! Chicken parm, smash burger, veggie panini. Delicious and large portions.
We just moved from Europe. The staff here are so nice! Good food, big portions and lots of choice. We will be back..again.. :D
I'd happily come back. Kid-friendly, adult drink-friendly, and food variety to please the group. I'm posting the breakfast and lunch menus since I only saw the brunch special menu in prior reviews. For the keto crowd, I'd highly recommend the cobb salad. Hearty portions of chicken, bacon, blue cheese, egg, and avocado. Swapped out the corn for cucumber and used lemon wedges instead of the dressing.
The Viand, located on Columbus Avenue on the UWS of Manhattan, is so lovely!! I visited for the first time recently to have breakfast with a friend and we had a great experience. The atmosphere reminds me of a classic New York City diner, as it's cozy + warm inside. The staff are really kind - my friend & I sat for quite a while and never felt rushed or hurried during our visit. The food is SO delish. I highly recommend their Another Avocado Toast (sub for poached egg), their Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and their French Fries!! I love this spot - highly recommend!
Best brunch place I've had in NYC! I recommend you buy off the Brunch Specials menu and you get a free drink. The Southern Eggs Benedict (exquisite and luxurious gritz) and Dulce de Leche French Toast (they don't skimp - best for a sweet tooth) are my favorites dishes! The atmosphere is lively on any Saturday or Sunday.
Short Rib Gnocchi. Skip everything and go straight for the SRG. Absolutely a #WoWFactor times 100. Best Short Rib dish I've had...ever. My girlfriend's daughter recommended the place, as she lives around the block, and I was gonna go for the shrimp & scallops but when I asked the waitress which I should choose...she emphatically said, "Definitely the short ribs!". Everything else was on point... especially the service. Will be back.
We were quite impressed with the food and the service at the Viand diner. Last night we had the turkey meatloaf with green beans and a sweet potato. Everything was done to perfection and very tasty. Tonight we stopped in for dessert and tried their Russian coffee cake which was to die for! Plenty of nuts, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. The waiters we had were very attentive providing great service. I also had some mint tea and they served a high quality organic tea, Mighty Leaf. You don’t normally see that in restaurants. All in all, a very impressive performance at a reasonable price.
Liked it a lot! Honestly, was a default decision because we were running late for a concert. Turned out to be a great decision. We told hostess we were kind of in a hurry. No problem. Seated, immediately attended. Not attitude from anyone. It's a very comfy place. Liked the layout and the decor - contemporary but very comfy the way a diner should be. Food was terrific (excellent burger), nice wine selection if you're into that, portions generous, service friendly and efficient. We liked it so much, we came back after the concert for desert.
Great brunch spot. Was seated timely on a Saturday morning. Excellent kids menu. Silver dollar pancakes were super cute There is an additional charge for maple syrup btw The service was excellent Eggs Benedict with salmon was good Chicken and waffles were good too Good portions Has orange juice and apple juice Would recommend! Walking distance to the AMNH which is cool
I came here for late lunch and it was delicious! I got a happy hour Bellini, and their chicken souvlaki. Valentina was my server and she was very sweet! It was nice and peaceful, and I will definitely be returning 🥰
Solid upscale diner with great service and a relaxing setting. Came here after a morning at the museum. Two thumbs up from my kiddo on the kids menu. The salmon burger was good but not great. That’s all right it was good enough. I’d try something else next time. Service was perfect.
Been here a couple of times, and each time I've been more than satisfied. They have a wide variety of diner food with some American and Jewish staples. Highly recommend their Eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwiches, and wraps (namely the Texas Wrap). Aside from entrees, I'd suggest Challah French Toast or pancakes to share (generous portions). I haven't been here for lunch yet, but its on my to-do list.
Took my wife to the city for valentines weekend and wanted a place that felt more local for breakfast. This place is awesome. Great service and atmosphere. When the reviews say the portions are huge, believe them! Neither of us could finish ours. Will be adding this to our future trips.
This is the quintessential NYC diner! We went on Christmas day for a snack during a frozen walk on the UWS. Lovely, friendly people and Wow, the food! We had 3 different kinds of soup, all fantastic. I had the split pea and it was delicious. The loaded potato skins were so good and a reminder of why people love loaded potato skins that are not just warmed up in a microwave. Go there!!
The prices for the portions are phenomenal. The atmosphere was great and welcoming, and the lady in the front was a sweetheart and even gave us free baklava and melomakarona. For it being in the city, it feels like I’m in Queens with how calm the environment was. 10/10, would recommend to anyone!
The service was amazing. Kelly was our server. Couldn't be more friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Coffee was a bottomless cup. I'm wired! Waited for a friend who was a bit late. The staff were patient and kind. NY diners are the best 👌
It opens 7am on Saturday, earlier than most other diners in Manhattan. We ordered Western Omelett and Egg Benedict and Steak Egg. Eggs were fresh and the portion was huge. The waiter was friendly and attentive.
45 years experience making this a upscale diner. Good coffee and happy hour specials Paul and Erick in management do a great job Kudos to Victor the bus boy Olga and Leslie January 2025 update: Chicken noodle soup with a matzoh ball on top is one of the best in the city. November 2025: Mikki Yemisi the servers are great!
This is a diner with service and food like none other! Brunch is AMAZING! The weekend brunch and drink specials are perfect! Nikki, Valentina, and Lisa, and of course Victor are awesome and so on top of every table. No one is left wanting. We live in the neighborhood and know all the restaurants and if you want great food, great service, and delicious drinks you should eat at Viand! Oh and I believe the manager, Nick (?) has something to do with hiring the best of the best!
If you're going to the natural History museum this is a great spot to eat with your family! My family had a really delicious dinner here tonight! I have some very picky kids. It's rare that the adults and kids all loved their dishes! The smash burger was amazing, my husband loved the Ruben. There was a kids meal that included a drink which is rare and a nice treat. The staff was lovely, food came quickly. It was a perfect end to a museum trip.
I walk past this diner all the time and finally decided to try it. Cozy diner with cute booths. It was busy and raining when I came in the employees were very accommodating as I opted for their covered outdoor seating and changed my mind preferring indoor seating. The chicken souvlaki was a little messy to eat but delicious. The chicken pesto panini was good but it would’ve liked a tad more chicken. The fries were really good, I would go back just for them and curious about their breakfast items like their dulce de leche French toast and eggs w/ corn-beef hash
I highly recommend this establishment! From the home orange juice to the delicious eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce had just the little extra love that made it different from many others that I have had. Service was kind, quick, and able to give solid recommendations. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean!
I highly recommend this place. We went for brunch on Sunday. We were 3, and with no reservation, we waited 30 minutes. It really goes faster if you are. The portions are very large. Pancakes were tasty and one of the best breakfast sandwiches. Also, they have gluten-free pancakes and gluten-free buns or toasts.
Came here for a weekend brunch and it did NOT disappoint. Their benedicts are amazing. The eggs in purgatory was SO delicious I still think about it from time to time!! Service was great; we sat outside and it was honestly really lovely. If you're looking for a good breakfast spot that's casual yet classy, this is the one!!
Nice diner. Has an interesting menu with more than the typical breakfast selections. I had the shakshouka which was delicious. Attentive service. It’s pretty tight seating wise, but typical for an NYC UWS local restaurant.
Came here after visiting the museum with family from out of town. The portions were big and food was good. I wasn't to thrilled about the mozzarella sticks or the plantain chips that came with my meal. I ordered thencuban sandwich which was great
We stopped in here on a whim one morning for breakfast. I have to say that the the Dulce de leche French toast is incredible and one of the best things I tried on our trip. It was so fluffy and light. And the buttermilk pancakes were also phenomenal. Again, incredibly fluffy, light and tasteful. I got an Irish Coffee which was good, but I was a little disappointed in the amount of Irish whiskey. I’m not a big drinker but it was weak in terms of alcohol content. Service was also very good. We sat outside which was fine with the outside heaters keeping us warm. But the area is so incredibly cramped. I realize that more tables = more revenue but for the comfort of your patrons, maybe take a table away and spare some room. Overall a very good experience to be sure.
Knocked off 1 star because it feels a bit pricey, and one of the staffs had pretty bad customer service. That being said, all the food was really yummy. Big portions so just ordering one plate and dessert was more than enough. The cappuccino was really delicious. You get the sense that they make almost everything from scratch there. Definitely recommend if you're in the mood for a nice casual diner (that's a bit pricey).
Visited today, ordered classic burger, it was cooked perfect for medium. The fries are good too, a big portion. The service is great. The place is cozy with cute booths.
Having been a long time patron of the 72nd St branch glad to see they opened another branch on the west side. Pretty much the same setup as the other branch. I usually go for the Philly cheesesteak but decided to try the turkey club this time. It was mostly fine but the turkey seemed a little dry, which surprised me as they're usually better than this. Chalk it up to an off day. We also had the chicken pesto sandwich, which I thought had too little pesto. Double the amount and it would have been perfect. Still better food than the diners in my current neighbourhood so not going to put me off. Like the outdoor seating too.
A great neighborhood diner. The service for our family of 8 get together was superb. We all enjoyed our food except for the breakfast potatoes- needed seasoning but I would go again. The restaurant accommodated us well. Thank you.
Visited this place way back in 2022 with some colleagues, it was good ! Fast forward to today , suffice to say - it’s still good ! Tried the ‘modern’ sandwich recommended by another reviewer and it was great ! The vibe is cozy , service was great. Definitely would recommend this diner.
Spending the weekend in NYC and looked for a place to have breakfast near Central Park and to our good fortune found Viand!! Solid reviews and really deserves more than a 4.3 rating..come on folks, hype up your favorite spots… because this place a strong and steady flow of local New Yorkers for breakfast (especially families with young kids). My breakfast sandwich, The Modern, was delicious! I was able to change the ciabatta bread to the brioche bun which was soft and sweet and the tomato bacon jam was out of this world, yummy. I’ll definitely add bacon to this sandwich next time. My partner got the steak and eggs, good sized steak, well seasoned, cooked to the desired temperature and the eggs they use here are huge and hearty! We don’t usually like shredded hash browns ( prefer breakfast potatoes) but their hash browns are pretty good with onions and peppers and again, well seasoned. Atmosphere is very nice, small but not cramped, clean, and the staff are wonderful; friendly and attentive without being overbearing and they seem to work well as a team to serve all customers. Overall this was a really great experience, slight dings for the fact that the coffee was pretty weak (and o don’t like strong coffee so that’s saying something), and the orange juice was a bit tart/bitter. But that aside we enjoyed it so much we ordered a salad and Cuban sandwich to-go for lunch later! Awesome food, great service… stop by!!
They have almost everything we would expected in a diner for breakfast. The Texas wrap, Greek omelette with bacons, pancakes were good for the adults. The kids meals: chicken fingers with French fries, hot dog, and French toasts with soft drinks were good for the kids. They did not have free refills for the kids soft drinks, but they had refill for coffee. The coffee was okay, but I prefer to go to a coffee shop for my morning coffee. Overall, it’s a decent breakfast experience.
Mid, bland food and overpriced. Service and atmosphere were fine. Tried multiple items. Huevos rancheros had no flavor. The refried beans and vegetable items tasted and felt like they came out of a pre prepped bag/can. Chorizo was overcooked and dry Maybe stick to the basics here like eggs and pancakes.
A quick place to grab something to eat. Service was overwhelmed, but they did seem to care. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The servers on at the time were not familiar with either the food or drink menus. I chalk it up to finding quality staff. The drinks were good, however. I had a Titos vodka tonic, and my wife had a bloody Mary. The place was visibly dirty, particularly the windows inside and out. There was no atmosphere. I think with the right management and staff, this place could be great. It has potential. A quick bite and run. I had a pastrami sandwich. Even though it was tasty, there was nothing special about it and could have contained less grease. The last and most important thing I want to say about this place is, holy cow, it was expensive for lunch. Probably because of the location.
Been to all 3 viands. This one on columbus ave is not the best Viand. Viand UES and Viand Broadway are 5 stars. Good tasty diner food. But Viand Columbus is 4 star because service is good. Somehow eggs, sausage, breakfast items have no taste no flavor. It's the same items but not sure why this Viand isn't good. Pancakes are ok though.
The homemade blueberry jam is fantastic. Wait staff attentive and very nice. Toasted sesame bagels were a bit hard and chewy. Hash was a little salty but decent. The Texas (?) wrap which had a lot of the same ingredients as the eggs and hash was better. Scrambled eggs didn't taste as good as the one at another area diner (with a very slightly lower Google Maps rating) we went to yesterday. The hash was ok, but seemed to turn bitter with addition of the table salt. The lunch and dinner options sound good and maybe the reason for the better rating.
I wanted to get a seat at the bar and I was the only customer inside. There is an ample amount of outdoor seating. I ordered a cheeseburger with mozzarella. The burger was good, and I had a nice time eating the fries. Their on-tap beer selection is rudimentary. Their menu is definitely more expansive, so if I was to return it wouldn't be for a burger.
Ugh... Super disappointed. I ordered the turkey triple decker and it was the worst thing ever. There was maybe one piece of bacon and the driest turkey I’ve ever had. They didn’t think to add a dressing, had to ask for mayo and ketchup and it was not enough. I love waffle fries but these were so greasy. The staff and the atmosphere were great and maybe I’ll give this place another chance... but not anytime soon. As you can see in the picture, I didn’t even bother to finish the sandwich, the greasy fries and the bad sandwich made my stomach hurt. Worst $20 ever spent.
I came here hoping the turkey sandwich would be as fabulous as the one at Viand on Madison Avenue but was very disappointed. The turkey was very dry and the rye bread was stale.Oh well, I guess I’ll have to go to the UES for the better version. Location is great though and the staff was nice.
Many of the brunch items come with orange juice and coffee, which is really generous and welcome. The food reminds me of better quality diner fare with a homeyness. The space is a bit tight and a wee bit claustrophobia inducing. If you can get a table, opt for that no matter how nice the booths appear.
TRY THE SMASHED BURGER! I have been in this restaurant with several friends and I had the opportunity to try not just the smashed burger but also the other burgers as well as the burrito. Knowing all that I have to say that the smashed burger was the best option by far… being the other ones just okay options to go for.
Had a pretty nasty meal here recently. I had been wanting to check the place out for a while too so it was pretty disappointing. Hash browns tasted freezer burnt, everything was pretty flavorless and even arrived at our table room temperature. I doubt any of the other savory dishes on the menu taste much better; if you must dine here, maybe stick to pancakes or french toast. Adding insult to injury, the whole meal, two mains and an app, was so expensive as to fill us with regret and make us reconsider dining out again anytime soon. Sounds dramatic, yes, but try dropping $70 for what was mostly inedible food in this economy!
Food is generally good but they make takeout orders difficult. No easy access to where orders are picked up. Simple requests like putting ketchup, salt, and pepper on a fried egg sandwich are ignored. Instead they give you dozens of packets. No wonder they charge nearly $12 for a fried egg sandwich.
Ordered a Farmer’s Benedict: the ‘Hollandaise’ sauce was basically a flour and oil rue with color added, eggs were fully undercooked, that is, the whites were clear transparent and gooey!! Then, the hash browns were overcooked and crisp like chips and the ‘bed of vegetables’ was very greasy and just barely warm. I sent it back and got a massive attitude from the waitress, Natalie. It took over 20 minutes for my replacement order or spinach pie to arrive. When we asked about it she said it takes longer than 2 minutes to fix. Then she tried to overcharge for something we didn’t order on the check at the end. She was rude and very unfriendly. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. Just be very careful what you order there. They may be able to handle baked potatoes or even pancakes, but I wouldn’t trust them with anything else.
Hate to be like this but seriously this is the worst breakfast we’ve had in I don’t know how long. Wanting to stop at a place to have breakfast since husband and I just came from a successful meeting. The coffee we had (him a latte and me a cappuccino) were sooo watery, he had an omelette which was pretty whatever and I had the nova lox benedict eggs which I was having a really hard time to eat and ended up leaving a little less than half of it, I’m writing this review with nausea from the food. Depressing way to start the day, had to come to our go to cafeteria to get a latte to actually feel something and a mint green tea to help with the nausea :( were joking with the husband that they should change the name to No Spice :(((
i'm sorry, the food is really bad lol. I have gone twice and everyone i know who has gone (4 different people) have said that their meals were also terrible. Not sure why it's rated so highly. I am not trying to be mean - maybe the chefs could try their food and tweak it a bit! For reference: cold, frozen, uncooked potatoes, cold, yucky penne alla vodka, rubbery stretchy cheese in omelettes, but fine pancakes and delicious homemade jam!
Food is fine and tasty. There is a 3% 'convenance' fee for credit card use! Yes, it's gonna feel like the 80s... Cash is king.... Prices are normal so the 3% feel like the place is running on tight margins. Seats outside are nothing special, as long as it's a warm day, and hard to get waiters attention so try to be seated inside.
Visited early on a Sunday after the NYC Half Marathon, starving to say the least. Very welcoming staff, and the place is clean and tidy. Ordered the Huevos Rancheros and was quite disappointed. The quality of the ingredients seemed poor, as was the execution - no real flavor to any of the food. Service is ok and toilets are clean. It is a relatively new place, and it's pricey for the output, but they definitely need a menu/chef overhaul if they are going to compete in the neighborhood.
TERRIBLE!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! For that same price you could eat WAY better at other places in the neighborhood. 1. The waitress had an ATTITUDE, was dismissive, SPILLED COFFEE on my husband and got my order WRONG. 2. We ordered an omelette which was SOOOO UNDERSEASONED it is unbelievable they charge $19 for that, no taste AT ALL. The Hashbrowns where BURNT and SOAKED IN OIL. 3. We also ordered the Shakshuka that came on a PLATE (instead of a skillet), the eggs were WAAAAAAY undercooked. AND THE SAUCE GOT US BOTH SICK. This whole place was like eating Taco Bell. At least be realistic with the prices because the math ain't mathing. We will NOT be coming back. It was such a waste of money.
Don’t order the burrito. Worst I’ve ever had. The chicken had Italian seasoning on it.
So sad. I have been coming to this restaurant for years. And mostly they have been accommodating. Food is good. Not remarkable. But reliable. But recently I had an interaction where I ordered something that was incorrect. And the manager would not adjust, or even admit, and then I was abruptly hung up on by one of the wait staff when I dialed to address the issue. Super sad about this approach.
As people visiting from LA, we were looking forward to a highly rated nice New York breakfast joint, as was suggested by the reviews and high priced meals. Saying we were disappointed is an understatement. The first thing I ordered was a “large fresh squeezed OJ” for 9$. They gave me one small glass of orange juice, I can’t even imagine what the small is. We got Pancakes, which weren’t bad, but not even close to being worth the price. We also got a pesto chicken sandwich that was completely drenched and pretty much inedible. The overpriced hashbrowns were awful, and The bacon wasn’t anything special, and again, extremely overpriced. Overall we spent 85$ on a glass of orange juice and a couple bites of bacon. Horrible experience.
The person who answers the phone is VERY rude and then the manager is ALSO very rude. I was a good customer there until I had to call and ask a question. I will never buy from them again! When you own an establishment you should be happy that people use your services and be polite. HORRIBLE
DO NOT buy a gift card through their website. THEY WILL NOT HONOR IT. My wife loves this place so I bought her a $50 gift card from the link on their own website to use while she was visiting NYC last week. She got there and they told her they couldn’t take it in the restaurant and it would work if she ordered online. She tried ordering online and they wouldn’t accept it online, either. Please take the link off the website if you won’t honor them. It’s a shame to think a place like this would scam their patrons.
Just left. Pretty bad food. Had the chicken and waffles and chicken was borderline inedible, waffles were fine. Service was pretty bad as well. Long waits for refills, never returned to table to see if more oatmeal, kind of curt and dismissive. Was only told about the 3.5% CC charge when we paid cash. We’re not thanked by server for stopping in. Just a weird vibe. I can take weird energy/ great food or bad food/ good vibes but when both are bad you get a 1 star google review from me.
I will never return to this place. After YEARS of loyalty, I was given the wrong meal (which happens all the time) and got NO apology---my boyfriend's meal was finished when my proper meal arrived. The waitress did not apologize for messing up my order; and the manager didn't either. NO discount or other comp offered. I wrote and called, was given an "apology" and told that maybe they would've given me a discount the next time I go (there is no next time). I am disgusted by how they treat longtime customers.
Hard to write a review, as they did not open on time. I arrived at 738, they told me it would be about 10 minutes, and it was very cold outside…. I went to Lenwich down the street…. This is not the first time this had happened …. If you cannot reliably open during advertised hours, update your open hours, please 🙏
Came to the restaurant thinking it should be a decent meal at decent price. The kids’ mac and cheese and French toast dishes were barely edible. My kids knew that the cheese is Velveeta cheese and the “syrup” is not real maple syrup (despite being described as such on the menu). I had the Impossible burger were bland (again made with Velveeta cheese). On top of that, the juices tasted off (apple and cranberry). All are overpriced for what they are.
I had an unpleasant meal this afternoon. Quantity doesn’t mean quality in this place. 1rst:The hash browns where a bunch of rough chopped potatoes nearly toasted. 2nd: $30 tuna dish with undercooked brocoli and overcooked tuna. It was on the “chef’s specials”. The prices could be reflected on the quality.
They’re selling days-week old cake slices trying to pass them off as “fresh”; Ordered from here at 11am only to receive a dry and semi-hard cake that was evidently stale, I called to rectify the situation only to constantly be told the cakes are “fresh” and asked “well what do you want me to do about it?”. This was a lesson learned and I won’t be spending here again, if they’re lying about the freshness of their desserts I can only imagine the food and what the kitchen actually looks like.
