Can not say enough about this place. Went last night for my dad's 80th. Food was amazing, service was friendly and attentive. The staff really can't do enough for you. The menu has great choice and genuinely the food was great. They even left a birthday card for my dad. Thankyou for a great night. Great team!
I hosted my 50th birthday party at the private dining room, which I chose because it’s the only dog-friendly private dining restaurant venue in Newcastle (other than standard pubs/gastropubs) and I wanted my little old Frenchie to be with us. The room is beautiful with an old-world charm, and all of my guest commented very positively on it. I was allowed to decorate it to my liking before the event, and the manager Amy accepted all of my numerous requests for the night. Our dedicated server Eve, together with the rest of the team, looked after us wonderfully well with professional warmth and attention. Everything, from welcome cocktails to canapés, from drinks to dinner was to everyone’s satisfaction (I was most impressed with the timing as each course for 16 guests arrived at unison). I had a wonderful and memorable evening, and will be returning to Hibou Blanc again and again. Highly recommended.
A great restaurant and stylish bar, with the entrance tucked away on High Bridge Street. Arriving on a very damp evening, we were delighted to find that the restaurant staff offered to hang our coats - much better than having to hang a soggy garment on the back of your chair and then lean back on it! These little things matter... The restaurant was very busy, but service was still good. The food really was excellent, perfectly cooked and packed full of flavour (read some of my other reviews, you'll find I have no problem calling out restaurants that deliver poor service, food, or both...). If you want a great meal in excellent surroundings, give Hibou Blanc a try...
This was an absolutely amazing dinner! The food was cooked to perfection and the cocktails were delicious. They accommodated to my brothers shellfish allergy and suited to his needs. The manager Amy was so helpful in choosing the correct wines suited to each dish. Also our waitress Becky provided great service and made sure all our needs were met. The price was just right and well worth it. All staff were outstanding and I would highly recommend 10/10.
We visited on a Sunday for my partners birthday , so we had the the three course Sunday lunch deal, which cost £32, the baked cheese souffle was excellent as were the venison scotch eggs, we then both had the lamb which was cooked to our choice, and it was absolutely delicious, desserts were chocolate brownie, again very good and the strawberries and ice cream, which i chose as I'm not really a dessert person was good but presentation wasn't great for a high end restaurant, after a strawberry spritz cocktail and redbull the bill was around £82. the staff were lovely and very attentive but not intrusive, would return for a special occasion.
Wow! Hibou Blanc is undoubtedly one of the best restaurant bars in Newcastle. The atmosphere is delightful, creating the perfect setting for a fantastic evening. The service was top-notch, with attentive staff providing exceptional customer service throughout our visit. We were fortunate to secure a seat by the window, and the romantic lighting added to the enchanting ambiance. I highly recommend Hibou Blanc to anyone seeking a drink in a romantic setting. Whether it's a special occasion or simply a desire for a memorable night out, this place delivers. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in their exquisite offerings and soak in the charming atmosphere. Hibou Blanc truly exceeded our expectations and left us with unforgettable memories.
Aug. 2023 Edit… our first visit was fabulous, our second visit was even better and a shout out to Amy and Grace who both provided excellent service 💕 We visited here for a birthday, a little impromptu and last minute booking. The service, food, cocktail choices all excellent. Well worth visiting and made a birthday that extra bit more special.
I thought it was going to be boujee but it was super classy. You could spend a lot of time appreciating the architecture and design at the bar. It’s been fitted out very well. I felt like I was stepping back into the 1920s. The restaurant week menu was great. The salmon, coley and apricot frangipane tart were an absolute bargain at £25. It was all so tasty and you could watch the chefs at work.
We went for a drink in Hibou Blanc before going to a music concert around 16:00. Its a lovely venue which in previous life's had been a bank and an amusement arcade. They have it fitted out very nicely and its a lovely comfortable place to sit and have a drink with friends.
I called in with my Fiancée and Mini-Daschund while on a walk— it’s great it’s so dog-friendly! We were warmly greeted by Michael (security) on arrival, and also by staff as we were seated. The place is beautiful, and had a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with good background music. We were looking to try something new and were expertly advised by the team (Cole and Calvin), who were happy to take the time to make sure we found cocktails and bar food to suit our tastes— they didn’t disappoint! What struck us the most was the team-work, enthusiasm and a genuine effort to make sure guests were happy— we made sure we fed this back to Ben (Manager). A fantastic Saturday afternoon— thank you! We’ll be back!
What an amazing venue, such attention to detail. The food was delicious. We were well looked after and I loved the feel of the restreraunt. Got to enjoy some drinks in the bar before our meal too. We ate from the vegan menu they had on offer - great variety, amazing textures. Can't wait to go again.
Great find in the heart of Newcastle Bigg market.elegantly tasteful decor compliments a terrific ambience. From the moment we presented ourselves for lunch ,staff were polite and attentive, the food was quietly simple but extremely tasty, cocktails we had were delicious, well done to all we will be back.
We visited for the restaurant week offer and it was absolutely amazing value for money. I started with the leek and potato soup, which was velvety smooth and absolutely delicious. I chose the steak with the £10 supplement and it was well worth it. The pork dish was also excellent and everything was perfectly complemented by a very nice bottle of Prosecco. The staff were excellent throughout our visit and the dining area felt really luxurious, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The only downside was the ladies’ toilet, which was unfortunately very dirty, with a blocked toilet and poor lighting. Thankfully we used it on the way out, as it would have been quite off-putting during the meal. Aside from this issue, we would 100% recommend this restaurant and would happily return.
What a great venue with excellent quality food and drink and service. Now been twice and made the second time a real special occasion. House Champagne (at a good price for a restaurant) , amazing local Lindisfarne Oysters, Margarita cocktails and a wonderful meal to follow. To add to the atmosphere there was even a live singer with fantastic vocals in the background. Don't expect a cheap bill but it's definitely worth it and the ambience it superb.
Hibou Blanc is an absolute gem in Newcastle and has quickly become one of my go-to restaurants. I’ve been a few times now and it never disappoints. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between stylish and welcoming, making it ideal for everything from relaxed lunches to special evenings out. The food is incredible — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with real care. Whether you’re trying something new or sticking with a favourite, every dish is amazing. The drinks selection is impressive, with a great range of cocktails, wines, and spirits to suit any occasion. Parking was easy too; we used The Gate, which is only a five-minute walk away and really convenient. Overall, Hibou Blanc delivers on every level. Fantastic food, great drinks, lovely setting — it’s a place you walk out of already planning your next visit. Highly recommended.
Probably the best bar/restaurant in the big market, quirky old library/Scottish lodge atmosphere. Brilliant staff great cocktails, only had bar snacks so far but on the strength of those will definitely book into the restaurant soon. The kitchen smells waft into the toilets, they are the best god damned smelling toilets I have ever been in 😁
Don’t think I’ve enjoyed a restaurant more than we liked Hibou Blanc. Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, live music, and exceptional food. We had the 3 course Sunday lunch for 35£. The lamb was delicious, cooked pink to perfection, and melts in your mouth. But the Summer trifle was the stand out. Everything I loved about desserts and more. The staff were great as we had our baby and dog with us. They brought out a starter quickly upon request so the baby could have his lunch. The live music started later in the afternoon was a pleasant surprise and enjoyable. Will definitely be going back again and again.
This is the second time in just a few months my wife and I have had a meal at Hibou Blanc and we cannot recommend highly enough! The food is stunning, we had the oysters, mushroom soup and filet of steak. I ordered rare and it was cooked to perfection. The small menu ensures food is perfect but I never felt limited. The dark atmosphere lends itself perfect for a date and pricing was reasonable, fantastic when considered against the quality of service, food and drinks. I recommend the Bloody Mary highly! Can’t wait to go a third time!
Amazing , amazing, amazing! We had a wonderful meal with family. Arriving early on a busy Saturday night service, we had drinks at the bar but we're contacted as soon as the table was available, so got to sit down at our table which was more comfortable than in the crowded bar area. The dinner was faultless.... all three courses for all six diners were delicious and no criticism. Excellent cocktails and extensive wine list. Just for clarity, the venue is beautiful with a great atmosphere. Just right in that it's a little louder in the bar area and quieter in the restaurant. The service received was appropriate and attentive; a special mention for Grace who was looking after our table and was just fabulous. Any requests were not a problem. ... and still smiling throughout the busy service. What we received was excellent value for money and we all left happy, full bellies and very content. This wasn't the first time we've dined here and definitely won't be the last.
Always fancied here, called in on chance for Sunday lunch, nearly didn't make to n restaurant as we were so impressed with bar area we nearly stayed in there! However we queried if there was a table free and although busy,, staff managed to squeeze us in, atmosphere great, food (both quality and quantity excellent) and decent bottle of wine also. Fully satisfied, well worth the cost (which was not extravagant). Well out did lots of other nearby bars, can't wait to come back.....
First time here, we were with relatives who live in Newcastle. The food was wonderful. I had the soup, rib eye steak and a chocolate and pear dester. The service was excellent, especially our waiter. I think his name was Phoenix? All in all, a fantastic memorable evening. Thank you.
The place oozes class and is a great place to eat and/or drink. We have been in several times over the years. Really nice bar area and the cocktails are excellent. Our cocktail waiter the other day was Kieran and he was awesome, fabulous amaretto sours! The food is really good and you are not rushed along. All in all, the owners have a winning formula.
I joined a friend for lunch and we started with a cocktail. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. It's the second time I've been and I would definitely go back. It's top quality in every aspect.
Lovely place tucked away, great bar and separate restaurant, had the 2 course Sunday lunch was perfect!
One of the restaurants lesser known as dog friendly! Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and are given water bowls. Great food and prime location 😊😊
Late afternoon lunch with my daughter, her choice. Service was professional, friendly and prompt. Food was presented well and although not huge portions was filling and tasty. My daughter was even provided with a Vegan menu as she is a vegetarian, which I thought was excellent. Bread was provided with the meal to. Nice atmosphere with a different choice of food.
Nestled in the heart of the Big Market in the Toon, this restaurant and separate bar offers an unforgettable experience of fine cocktails and beautiful food.A simple menu but an excellent choice. We wen as a group of 6 and we all thought the service was of the highest order ant the food spit on.Highly recommended
Amazing food, lovely attentive people looking after us and our puppy had the best time for her first night out in town. C
Wonderful venue, friendly staff
Very nice bar with a good selection of beers, gins and vodkas. The inside is very relaxing and with plenty of places to sit.
Cant comment on food but drinks are great . The place has a great vibe and plays some great tunes..
Amazing experience. Delicious food and fabulous service. Its jot often I give a five star review, but today is the day. Visit if you can
Favourite place to go for food. Have been several times and never disappointed, even the bar meals are lovely.
Love this place, always go there when in Newcastle. Really nice decor with huge chandeliers. Cocktails are average price and always great
🍸🙏We had lunch at this beautiful place ! It's up there with the best of Newcastle food places ! We will definitely be going back & totally recommend! 🍸🙏
Wow! An absolutely beautiful bar/restaurant. Amazing decor and lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Guy playing the piano and singing…. Wonderful! We had three courses plus oysters. The double baked cheese soufflé is to die for…. Mmmmmm! Sunday lunch was gorgeous and meat was tender too. Veggies and potatoes etc really nice. Only let down was the giant Yorkshire pudding which was hard and dry. I absolutely love Yorkshire puddings but that part was a little bit of a let down. Otherwise, gorgeous.
The restaurant provides a pleasant atmosphere and excellent service. The food is delicious, although the menu selection is a bit limited. The dessert options, however, are a standout with a delightful variety.
After much eager awaiting I made it to Hibou. The decor is gentleman's club with a touch of countryside estate. Leather, wood and chandeliers. We stood waiting for a couple of minutes to be greeted however weren't. So approached the bar and were asked to walk to a nearby desk. Our reservation was checked by a polite lady, however her arms were covered in tattoos. Not adverse to tattoos, however wondered how polished the place actually was. We were sat within a lovely area, surrounded by classy decor of the wines offered. Air con was blasting so the new waitress kindly has it reduced. Sunday lunch menu was choice, started by house martini which was smooth and delicious. Bloody Mary was enjoyed. Bread and olives (sage and onion focaccia was incredible, butter room temperature, perfect). Pheasant terrine and roasted beets was flavoursome, however mushy and a little salty. The burrata salad enjoyed very much. The wine waiter from Mendoza, Damiaan was attentive, friendly and a pleasure. The young waitresses although friendly and dutiful lacked confidence, not thinking of offering condiments for example. We asked for such with the roast beef and turkey, they arrived without spoons and had to ask again. Little things make a difference. The beef despite asking for medium came as well done and sent back, quickly replaced. Everything on the plate had some flavour, however lacked seasoning, Yorkshire's were excellent. Carrots roasted were delicious. Gravy sublime but not that hot, plates were warm. My lunch partner didn't enjoy the floury roast potatoes. I demolished mine. The Chilean Cabernet was beautiful. Desserts of hazelnut financier and milk chocolate cremeux with pear was heavenly. The blackberry tart, was crisp and sharp. Espressos and a further drink in the adjacent bar finished our meal, however were constantly asked if we wanted more. No digestives on offer except large whiskey /bourbon collection. Waitress at the bar didn't know what a digestive was. Would we go back? Yes we would, however wouldn't be a hurry to stay in the large bar as the tempo was a bit too loud after a very comfortable lunch. The wine waiter was a real pleasure and an asset to the restaurant. The waitresses need a little more confidence and attention to detail, however due to the pandemic, finding good staff isn't easy. Stick to the restaurant for a lovely Sunday.
It's a nice bar, nice restaurant, good vibes, good food, but the cocktail menu is abysmal
Visited on a Sunday so Sunday lunch on offer. We were a party of 6 and 5 had the Sunday lunch which they enjoyed. Varying opinions on the Yorkshire pudding which was huge. I had the halibut which was excellent. The service was excellent and there was a good atmosphere as it was busy.
My wife and I made a reservation here after hearing a lot of good reviews. It was early on a Saturday evening. Hibou Blanc is divided into two separate parts - the larger area being the bar, which was heaving, even at this early hour. The restaurant is a smaller area, a little apart from the clamour of the bar. The lighting in both parts is low but the tables in the restaurant have atmospheric downlighting and the whole place has a private club style to it, with comfortable seating at the tables and Chesterfield couches in the bar. The atmosphere is therefore pleasant but there is noise from the bar and lots of hubbub from the neighbouring tables. The service was excellent. Several staff attended our table and answered questions about the food and drinks. Empty plates were quickly replaced with full ones and the staff were quick to offer help. Max was mostly at our table and he was great. The food is on the pricey end of the spectrum and we had a little of a mixed bag, though mostly good. The dishes are all well presented. My mackerel arriving in an enjoyable sauce and a side of dough bread and my wife's venison terrine looking very appealing. Both dishes were nice. My main was the fish of the day - trout and this is where my only disappointment with Hibou Blanc lies. The portion of trout - not an expensive or rare fish was tiny and the potatoes seemed undercooked to me. Thankfully, my better half had splashed out and ordered the lobster which came with some chips, she shared with me. Her lobster did look and taste very nice though and ther was enough of a portion for her. Enough to pass on some delicious chips to me. She thought the lobster was nice too. The desserts were the most enjoyable course. Though I am not usually one to eat dessert, the dark chocolate mousse with cherries and cream was delicious. My wife ordered the Almond Financier - which to our surprise and relief had nothing to do with spreadsheets or large financial operations. Both were very enjoyable.. One other thing that was great was the cocktails. We had 'Old Fashioned's - a very tasty blend of orange and Maker's Mark bourbon. Possibly the best version of this, I have ever had. It was slightly cheaper and tastier than the one I had just enjoyed at Mother Mercy's, which we had been to previous to this. We had a caraffe of Sauvignon Blanc and the final bill added to around £75 each with an automatically added service gratuity.
Bar area was nice, only thing about visiting is the doors on the main strip is locked but says open! I felt a mug trying a door with everyone watching me as people must have done it before me too… yes I now know it’s down the alley but maybe black out the door with an arrow pointing around the corner saying entrance…. If there was one I wasn’t going to be looking for it and have people laugh at me because the none entrance with an open sign was locked…..
Beautiful bar with a great atmosphere, only downside was a rude member of staff! We had the pleasure to pay Hibou Blanc a visit on Saturday night, they had a great selection of drinks with the majority of staff being helpful and accommodating. The only let down was a rather rude, young, dark haired gentleman who kept giving my husband back chat, snarky remarks and sarcastic answers. Such a shame as it did put a dampener on our previously pleasant night. Overall, a nice bar to visit if you get the chance but avoid the bloke with a goatee if you can!😂
Been here multiple times in the last couple of years however this is the first time we went around Christmas time and unfortunately it did not deliver. The food looked amazing but was so salty you could barely eat it. While the other person had the steak and it was ok the turkey was very hard and it was a struggle to cut the roast potato. Normally I would of said something to the waiter about it but literally not even a minute after our food arrived she came to ask if everything was ok I haven't even tried the food at that point and the lady seems very uninterested in our table and didn't come over at all until we asked for the bill which was disappointing. Due to being so put off from the food I didn't get desert just cause I was so disappointed in the food. Especially since the Christmas menu is a lot more expensive than the normal set menu they usually serve. The restaurant and the decor was lovely for Christmas just shame about the food.
I recently dined at Hiblou Blanc and overall it was a really nice experience. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. That said, I was disappointed with a communication issue. I had specifically signed up for the steak night and informed all my guests about the offer. Two days before our reservation I found out that steak night had been moved from Thursday to Wednesday and no one informed me. As soon as I noticed the change, I called the restaurant. The waiter I spoke with said he would talk to the head chef and that it shouldn’t be a problem to match the original offer. He promised to call me back the next day. However, no one contacted me, so I called again. This time a different waiter answered and while I was on the phone, he spoke to the head chef. All I could hear was "no" from the chef and I was told they couldn’t do anything about the change. I’m currently 8 months pregnant so I didn’t want the stress of cancelling last minute and finding another place so I decided to keep the Thursday booking. This was quite frustrating as I feel they should have honoured the offer for tables that were specifically booked for steak night. It’s not fair to change an advertised event without notifying customers. We could have made other plans had we known earlier.
