Very nice meal at the end of our ramblers walk. Nice efficient staff.
The food here is so good. Never had a bad meal. Used to come all the time but since moving house its a bit far away. But being in the area today me and the mrs called in we both had a mixed grill definitely 10/10 everything was very well cooked 100% would recommend 👌🏻
Lovely meal this evening. Complements to the chef. Dirty burger and Steak & Ale Pie. Couldn’t fault. Lovely service too from both lads front of house.
The staff were friendly and atmosphere/decor were nice. Food was really tasty. (Breaded chicken breast)
We received excellent service at the hazel pear. Food was very tasty and fresh, we had the Salmon option and the belly pork. Atmosphere was nice and relaxed and I noticed the pub has recently been re-decorated and is nice and clean.I would highly recommend the hazel pear to anyone.
Considering we pre ordered the menu it was very disorganised one person left waiting for there order while the others ate the food was not very hot the pie crust was overcooked and hard the turkey on the xmas lunch was dry and crispy not very hot the salmon had to be sent back to be reheated after wating for the vegetables to arrive the steak was dry not asked how we would like it cooked the desserts were nothing like we ordered after being invited back to the hazel by Carl to see if it could be rectified and he didn't fail every thing was perfect and he couldn't apologise enough for the experience we had definitely return apparently the problem was down to kitchen staff not doing there job while Carl was not on site
The second time we have visited this pub in a month on the way back home for our travels. What can I say? Absolutely excellent. The staff couldn't be any more helpful if they tried and are so friendly and welcoming. The food as the 1st time was fantastic. Starters of chicken liver pate and southern fried chicken strips with gravy (which quite frankly, I would like a full pan of. Mains was steak in ale pie, chips and veg and a mixed grill. I asked for my steak to have no pink meat in it and that's the way it came but still soft and pliable. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and for me a brandy coffee. All of it was well worth the money. To top it all they allowed us to stay overnight in our motorhome and they have a beer garden and a large car park. It was a quite night even with the network rail staff on site on the tracks. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend and will go back again and again
Had such a lovely meal out this evening with my friends. Never met a lovelier server than Carol she looked after us all evening. So gutted that we couldn’t tip her as only had Apple Pay and no cash. Please update your tills so people can tip and it to go to your staff with phone payments. Also update the website as we came for the offer that’s on there but it’s not available any more. Food was excellent too lots of vegetarian options. Thanks again!
Called "on spec" with my missus for lunch. Got seated ok, but the young lady advised us that there would be a 30 minute delay due to the chef being on his/ her own, which we didn't mind. It was her and a young lad running the tables and bar but although they were very busy, service was great. The food, when it arrived- no delay- was excellent. Well prepared and really tasty- so if this is the chef when he/ she is rushed i'd love to see what would be dished up when not under pressure! Well worth a visit!
Good Morning, I just wanted to leave you a positive review, my friends and I visited the hazel pear on Monday 22nd September and just wanted to say a huge thank you!! We had the loveliest time, the food was incredible, the atmosphere was wonderful, the staff were so friendly and helpful. I just wanted to say, Carol in particular (I really hope I’ve got her name right) she was just so lovely! I’ve visited twice in two weeks and I’m already planning my next visit! Thankyou again! :) Rebecca
For a pub on a junction it is very quiet inside. The views from the windows are not of the road in most cases. So a real surprise. This is a local town pub with food all day,, good beer and spirits selection. Quiz every other Wednesday. Lots of parking and plenty of walks nearby. Visit the locks and water screw from here. It is dog friendly. It also has private dining areas. Sadly I took no photos
What a lovely pub. Staff were very nice and friendly. Food was fantastic. A good selection of draft beers and alcohol free beers too. A real shame it's so far away for us to go to regularly.
‘Wandering Wednesday’ took both Neil and I on a mini road trip to Acton Bridge, to a lovely little pub called ‘Hazel Pear’…. All the food was truly beautiful…. You could tell everything was ‘Homemade’, piping hot and all flavours from each dish was faultless and bursting with flavours, there was a good varied menu and we were spoilt for choice on what to have! You could get ‘Bar snacks’, which are taster dishes…. We had this to share to start, with smalller 4 dishes of: *Crispy King prawns with garnish and tandoori mayonnaise. *Chicken wings in a sticky Asian sauce and garnish *Panko-coated Halloumi sticks with sweet chilli sauce and garnish *Southern fried chicken strips with garlic mayonnaise and garnish. All the coatings on each dish was homemade, fresh and crispy…so nice Entrée’s Neil had Steak and Ale pie, creamy mash, peas and rich creamy gravy….. Neil said the pie had thick chunks of steak that just melted when eaten. I couldn’t make my mind up so I had mix of different delights….. *peri peri in soft tacos with crisp slaw, this was a starter dish but then I added side dishes of: *sweet potato fries *Pot of ketchup *Crispy onion rings *Caesar, dressed green leaf salad…. The food was really, really gorgeous…. We will definitely be returning, the pub was spotless, loads of little snug areas inside and busy for 1:30 on a Wednesday, which is a good sign of great food….. and they were right!!! Our empty plates spoke for themselves!!….It’s a little cracker of a place….. The young lady who was our waitress named Faye, she was extremely polite, courteous, always smiling and very professional, also complements to the chef, who name I didn’t get, sorry… the cuisines were outstanding and presentation was fantastic…. Thank you. We’ll be returning in the very near future…10/10
Booked a family of 4 (2 kids) plus our dog for a festive meal. Loved the experience from beginning to end. Drinks/food arrived quickly and the staff were lovely too. A really nice atmosphere inside and the team there make you feel very welcome. Lots of choice on the food menu, selections of draught beers, wines and spirits. There’s a log burner centrally placed to keep to place cozy and some rooms off the main area, if you wanted a more private setting. Have visited a few times throughout the year and always had a good experience. A good pub, well managed with a friendly atmosphere. Can’t beat that these days.
Excellent food, venison and steak pie to die for, good selection of desserts, great staff and nice decor. Another visit today 15th August 2024. We both had the sea bass with rissoto rice. It was very good, great taste, well presented. We had lunch today 12th of March, the £12 for smaller meal and a drink,it was well cooked and presented, a tasty burger and gammon slice.
I was a bit dubious whether katsu flavours would work in a burger... and they did! The veggie "chicken" katsu burger was exceptional. And it came in the freshest brioche bun I've ever had, like it was baked to order, so doughy. The Asian slaw was super tasty. And the chips were great quality also. The pub is cute inside and has a nice terrace with additional outdoor tables on the grass. I will be coming back!
Called in for lunch on the off chance. Had a lovely meal in pleasant surroundings. Will definitely go back
Fantastic pub with great Sunday Roast. Bar staff very helpful and the dessert menu to die for....... definitely will be back.
Nice pub, quite quaint with staff who remain friendly while busy, great food and some good beers (needs to get the Neck Oil back on though). Had a lovely evening and would certainly recommend
OMG, this place is wonderful. If you're within 50 miles, take a detour. We live over 80 miles away and will be going back. The staff are very friendly and the food is siblime. It's worth much more than sold for, but that's what makes it so wonderful. I jad schnitzel with capers butter and skin on chips. Wow. Friends had pork belly. It was melt in the mouth, and even the sausage and mash were superb. Left feeling excellent value and couldn't jave eaten another bite. This is a proper cheshire gem. Love it
Love the hazel pear, the food is great, the staff are excellent and it is generally a nice place. Good parking and a really nice beer garden. Would recommend the belly pork on the Sunday roast.
Amazing Sunday roast; it’s been a while since we were last here but we will be back soon. The portion size was good, making it great value for money and the quality of the ingredients is top notch. Fresh, flavoursome and all served in a lovely atmosphere dining room by pleasant, helpful staff. 10/10, excellent.
Had a great time with fantastic food and excellent service. The staff could not have been more helpful. Will definitely be back soon. Thank you for making us so welcome.
Beautiful pub, service was excellent and the food was incredible. Four of us had food, steak n ale pie, rump steak and 2 smaller dishes fish and chips and gammon couldn't fault it, look forward to next visit. Staff even offered to help move elderly dad into his wheelchair.
Fantastic service! Came for a quick drink before my train, and got chips and king prawns starter too - the sauce it came with was lovely! Would recommend to all
This is a lovely country pub. The food and the staff are amazing, Very reasonable prices. You must try the mixed grill. definitely a perfect restaurant to take your wif, girlfriend or family. Very good cocktails. This really is a must to visit. (and you know I don't say this very often) :)
Went with a group of eight ladies at lunch time.Food lovely.Chips were the best I've ever eaten! £12 lunch menu included a drink! ( alcoholic or non alcoholic).Very slow service as only ONE person serving and same girl manning yhe bar as well. She did apologise.
We called in to have a pint and check out the menus for an upcoming family meal. We called in at a quiet time, but the staff were friendly and the "snug" was lively. Clean, well kept pub and had a vibe of being a nice place if it were busier. Looking FWD to calling in for a Sunday roast soon
Fantastic little gem of a pub very welcoming for all the family and dogs too, food was absolutely wonderful proper home cooked food!! hats off to the chef! definitely be back for another Sunday afternoon relaxed chill 😌
Only small but lovely inside. Prices fair. Staff really friendly. Well behaved dogs welcome. If you want a quiet drink in a pleasant environment where you can hear yourself talk, check this place out.
Lovely warm atmosphere, polite service, nice tasty food. The dog being welcome is a must for us too.
Lovely place, great selection of beers, food lovely. Only one downside, we had called in earlier to book a table and look at menu, husband really fancied pulled lamb cottage pie and when we went back it was unavailable ☹️
Set in a quiet village, this pub serves good food at reasonable prices. Wide selection of drinks available. As we visited during the week for lunch it was quite quiet, but I think it will be much busier in the evening with live music and other events advertised. Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Disappointed with my meal. Lamb rump with 3 types of veg, cabbage, carrots and peas. Came with a small amount of carrots a few runner beans, no cabbage or peas. They had run out of cabbage but where were the peas? Potato gratin was ok but again small portion. Meal was warm but not hot. Lamb was lovely but let down by the rest of it
As we had dogs we were in the Tap Room which was very comfortable but sadly the locals were not so friendly when I tried to engage. However we enjoyed a drink and the bar lady was particularly friendly as was a man at the bar, when refilling our glasses. The interior looked most welcoming and the restaurant looked very inviting.
Went as a large party. Some enjoyed food but a few didn’t. Very underwhelming portions for the price. Poor quality meat in burgers and dripping with so much on cheese, it was sickly and covered in grease. High priced drinks. Table service for food but were asked to go to the bar if we wanted drinks. I’d honestly recommend Ring O’ Bells which is a 5 minute drive away. Much better atmosphere, food and prices.
Food very nice. However had to wait very long time ( nearly an hour) for main course then another half hour for desserts . We rang ahead two days in advance to book as there were 7 of us for Sunday lunch . When we got there they’d lost our booking so had to squeeze us in the boot room down steps not good for my mums poor mobility as she has a walking aid. We were squashed on a too small a table and when we asked to be moved we were told there was no where else as they were busy. Very very disappointed as my son and I had travelled a long way to be with family for lunch and it was meant to be a special time for us.
Just had the worst meal my husband booked it for our wedding anniversary. On the website it said 2 courses for £17.99,we were given the normal menus, when my husband asked about the offer on the website was told it wasn't running anymore. So we both ordered the chicken schnitzel, which was so tough I had trouble cutting mine. Told the very apologetic bar maid about it, she said she couldn't give us any money off the bill but would let the kitchen know. This is the 1st time I have ever written a bad review about a meal and I will certainly not recommend this pub to all our friends and family
I used to live locally and had been a frequent diner here, but this was my first visit here in over 10 years. Pros: Sunday lunch was good, the food was a good quality and cooked perfectly Portions were small, so no food wastage (I normally have a childrens Sunday Roast at pubs because the portions are huge and I hate food going to waste) The menu looked excellent with lots of quality options The staff were all very nice Reserving online was very quick and easy, I had a text the day before to remind me of the booking The pub was clean, bright, tidy and welcoming Parking was easy Conversation was easy, most of the tables were empty, meaning we could hear each other easily We were seated immediately on arrival, so no hanging around waiting for our table The staff to customer number gave the impression that we'd be looked after vary well Cons: Whilst it was a quick and easy meal choice (three Sunday roasts) it wasn't easy to order. The front of house staff must have been busy out of sight and (when they came into sight with plates in hand) they seemed to be on a mission to get food to tables and back into the kitchen as quickly as possible (top marks for efficiency). After a few failed attempts to get someone's attention, 40 minutes after being seated we placed our orders (we hadn't even been asked what we'd like to drink until that point). 40 minutes sat in a pub restaurant waiting for a drinks (never mind food) order to be taken is by far the longest I've ever had to wait. We had 2 rounds of drinks (it would have been more if the service was quicker) and we didn't say anything at the time, but we were all surprised that when they were being handed to us, each glass was held at the top, right where we were going to put our lips. Again, this isn't something we'd expected or experienced elsewhere. Most people hold the glassed in the middle, not at the lip at the top of the glass. Maybe I'm just being fussy, but if a member of staff was handing me cutlery and they were holding the forks by the tines or the knives by the blades then I wouldn't have been inclined to accept those. The portion size was smaller than Sunday Roasts elsewhere (so less waste). They're on a par with the childrens portions elsewhere, but at close to twice the price of the children's portions elsewhere. When we asked for the bill it came promptly but we struggled to get someone's attention for us to pay it. This wasn't just us either, as the people at the table next to us had to ask for someone to take payment. They were then told that they needed to pay at the bar. We'd been sat for half an hour trying to get someone's attention so that we could pay the bill. It wouldn't have been difficult to tell us when we were given the bill that we needed to pay at the bar. And finally, having taken the bill to the bar and handed it to the member of staff there, in the moment between them looking at the bill I'd handed over (and her then tapping the till), and the card machine requesting a tap for payment, the bill inexplicably increased (significantly). I had to ask to look at the bill (the one I'd handed over) to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. I had to explain that the amount on the card machine was far higher than the amount on the bill. The explanation was that there had been more drinks added to the bill that needed to be removed as they weren't ours (I didn't need to ask for them to be removed, they knew they shouldn't have been on my bill, so why had they been added in the minute between me handing over the bill and the card machine displaying the amount owed?). The fact that they knew immediately that there were extra drinks on the bill that weren't ours (without having to check anything) told me everything I needed to know. All things considered, it's not on my (very long) list of places I'd like to go back to, which is a shame as I had some very good memories of the place. Hopefully my honest feedback will help address any learning points and the necessary improvements made where possible
Honestly no idea what is happening here. We live in the village and have visited 3 times over the past three months. I think it can be explained by the fact that the place seems to be run by teenagers. On our first visit, we arrived at opening time on a weekday, walked through the door and the gent who served us went and looked round the empty restaurant before coming back and telling us we would have to be quick ordering - absolutely no idea why, as the place was empty for our whole visit which wasn’t short. On our second visit our service was so slow that we debated just leaving, and trying to get the bill was no better. I called up (foolishly) to give the place a third chance - I told them I was looking to book a christening venue for about 60 people and they said they could accommodate. Before going further we went in for a visit, having checked their website and seen a food offer that was available. Amazingly, we sat down and ordered drinks only to be told by a young member of staff that “they’ve taken that offer off the till so you can’t order it”. Might as well have said “computer says no”. Bearing in mind this offer was still on the website as we sat and attempted to order - I’m sure if there was an issue with the booking system on the website rather than some false advertising that brought unsuspecting customers in, the issue would be resolved a lot quicker. I told her i would likely not order anything if that were the case as there was just zero remorse or apology, and was told “ok, just let me know”. The cherry on the cake was punters sitting by the bar vaping freely indoors, in clear view from the bar but nothing said despite the fact we had a very young baby with us 🤦♀️ We left, and we booked a christening reception venue elsewhere promptly. I think 3 visits is enough to determine that we definitely won’t be going back.
I visited The Hazel Pear last month and had an amazing experience, so I recommended it to my family and we visited again last night. Unfortunately, this time the experience was very disappointing. Out of the four meals ordered, only one was correct. We requested two mixed grills and two steaks, however one steak arrived well done instead of medium rare, and another meal came out as gammon and chips. We were not informed that steak was unavailable, and if I had wanted gammon, I would have ordered gammon. The chips were dry and extremely hard, as were the onion rings. We were offered a free round of drinks and 25% off the bill, and were told we could either keep the meals we had or wait for the correct ones to be remade, though this would involve another long wait. When we explained that the order was incorrect, the dark-haired woman we spoke to was quite rude and insisted the order was right, stating there was no steak left, which is why gammon was served instead. This was frustrating and poorly handled. I would like to mention that the blonde woman, who was serving and also behind the bar, was lovely and genuinely tried her best to help. However, when you go out for a meal, you expect to receive what you ordered, or at the very least to be informed if items are unavailable. Sadly, this visit did not meet the standard of our previous experience. Also trying to book was a nightmare i tried ringing multiple times and the phone line was just ignored so we then had to go in a few hours before to the place to book.
Went to the Hazel Pear today and was served my food. The waitress asked if there was anything else after delivering my food so i asked for some more chips as I didnt order a childs portion. After all i'd Paid £34.95 ! The chef / manager / owner then arrived and took my plate and asked me to leave the premesis so I did after a full Refund. Shocking Customer Service !
We went to sit in the garden to listen to the birds and for a bit of peace. Nope, music louder outside than in. The outside tables were full of left over food for the entire time that we were there which the insects loved. The food wasn't great and got my order slightly wrong but I'm not convinced this mattered in the end. The onion rings were swimming in oil and I mean drenched 🤢. Hard/raw fries. The chicken on the mixed grill was a wing so that also got left for landfill. Staff were friendly and were doing their best. Seating area is small but fair. Would I recommend? Sorry no I wouldn't.
We were staying nearby after travelling 4 hours. Went in at 6pm on a Sunday to be told there was no food available 'chef has said No More walk ins', nothing offered at all. Excuse was, 'We've had a busy Bank holiday'.... the one that we all knew was coming for years! What a joke. We actually spent money on drinks too, wished we hadn't. We left and went down to the Riverside Inn, who had plenty of lovely food, despite the bank holiday. Will never go back to the Hazel 'Hungry' Pear.
