Seriously the best value dimsum spot I have ever been to. Their dimsum is top notch, my partner and I get it every time we come to Oakland. The owners are lovely and super friendly as well! Our favorite things to order are the black bean spare ribs (get multiple orders. We still haven’t had a better one in SF), the snowy baked pork buns, and the sticky rice and minced pork in lotus leaf. Seriously, amazing, authentic dim sum. If you’re really picky about the ambience, get takeout instead, but we love the experience of sitting at one of those communal tables surrounded by elderly aunties and uncles - that’s the hallmark of an amazing Chinese restaurant!
It is one of the very few restaurants in Chinatown Oakland where the servers speak fluent English and are super kind and care about your good experience. The foods come out piping hot and the serving size is plentiful, especially the wonton soup; they give you the most generous amount compared to anywhere I’ve been in Chinatown for only $5.50. Their shrimp and beef wontons are so firm and tasty. All of their dim sums I’ve tried were very good. Will be coming back regularly.
Price is reasonable and the taste is very good and much worth than their price. The staff are friendly and willing to help even though it is crowded and they are busy. Lots of ppl and no much street parking. But The public parking building nearby has lots of vacancy and the parking is cheap. Overall the restaurant is good and food of high quality and reasonable price and parking is easy.
Great food and great prices. Everything is ordered off-menu, so you won't have to compete for any dishes you're particularly interested in. To rank what I tried: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: - Lotus Rice: sticky rice with deeply savory pork filling. - Chinese Broccoli: tender and well seasoned. - Thousand Shrimp Ball: basically ideal mini corn dogs. - Egg Custard Buns: delicate bao with a sweet, rich, egg yolk custard filling- the only item we ordered twice. So awesome. - Taro Coconut Milk Pear Cake: lightly sweet with subtle coconut and taro flavors. ⭐⭐⭐⭐: - Durian Puffs: I enjoyed these, but my friends did not. Not overly sulfuric, sort of sweet potato-esque with a crisp pastry exterior. - Har Gow: classic and well executed. - Shui Mai: large and well composed, with whole shrimp. - Turnip Cakes: chewy and glutinous, with tender radish. ⭐⭐⭐: - Pan Fried Bao: Average pork and celery filling with a solid bun. - Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll: impressed by the whole shrimp, but I don't love the gummy, glutinous texture of the noodles. However, the favorite dish of one friend. ⭐⭐: - Chiu Chao Dumplings: overly glutinous wrapper fell apart while lifting the dumplings. Nicely toasted peanuts but fell flat overall. After everything, there were still 3 or 4 dishes I had hoped to try but didn't! Next time. Oolong tea was sipped throughout the meal. Service was very friendly and us dumb Americans really appreciated the overall English fluency. Total was $90 after 20% tip, and we left more than satisfied. Lovely experience and I'd definitely recommend.
A classic authentic Chinese cafe with delicious quality dim sum. Service was friendly and fast. You know it’s good when all the Chinese folks eat here. It was a little loud and busy at lunch but soon was quiet and relaxed, even though all the tables were full. This will be my go-to spot in Oakland.
While the location may not look flashy, the food is fantastic, and the prices are ridiculously fair. The service is also incredibly friendly. This will definitely be a regular location.
Ming’s Tasty is a solid spot for Chinese comfort food. The dishes are flavorful, fresh, and generously portioned. Service is friendly, though it can get a bit slow when it’s busy. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, making it a reliable choice for a quick, satisfying meal.
The 4 of us eat here. Excellent traditional food, very fresh and great quality. Light and balanced flavors. Place is ok. Service is very fast. Come if you want to try authentic Cantonese food and desserts.
The table was kind of slanty, but food was delicious and a bargain. The bamboo beancurd roll (Seen Jook Geun) had lots of vegetables which I really like. Friendly service too.
Famous dimsum place at Oakland Chinatown. It was very crowded. We waited about 30 minutes to get table. The restaurant is not that big. From outside it seem itvis rundown restaurant but inside was ok. I like the white lighting like the photo I saw at yelp butnow they changed the light to yellow. It looks a bit darker. Please don't mind if they ask you to share table with other customers. The dimsum menu is similar to other restaurants which serve dimsum. Please make sure you order all at once. If not your second round of order will take a while to arrive. Our servers spoke English well which is better than other restaurants. Now about the food. All are very yummy and surprisingly very reasonable price. The claypot was yummy The dimsum is cheaper than most of dimsum restaurant we ever visited. If you like dimsum and around Chinatown, you should give it a try. You can park on the street or at the plaza.
After walking by this restaurant several times while I am in Oakland Chinatown, I finally stopped in on a Tuesday late afternoon to have linner. Upon perusing the menu, I decided to have their shrimp dumplings (har gow), pan fried turnip cake, a bowl of chicken conjee and an order of doughnut sticks. Wow! What I ordered was delicious. I enjoyed what I ate The shrimp dumplings were better than the ones I usually buy from another pastry shop. The shrimp was plump and the texture of the dough was perfect. Oh my! The pan fried turnip cake was tasty and the texture was a smooth melt in your mouth one. The weather was on the cool side. The chicken congee and doughnut stick were total comfort food ant it warmed my tummy. To wash down the food, I had the chrysanthemum tea. Return visits: Definitely yes. I am eager to go back for more dim sum pastries and the chicken with black mushroom in clay pot. Tip: best time to dine there is on weekdays. Weekends this restaurant is packed with patrons waiting in line outside.
Many of my favorite dim sum spots have closed over the years, and thankfully, we found Ming's Tasty, and I will keep coming back. The service is excellent! The food is delicious! Be sure to have the chicken feet with Peking sauce. Thank you Ming's for many delicious meals. Edit: Word to the wise, don't come to the restaurant right at 3 pm. The staff takes their much deserved lunch break and everything stops for about 15 minutes... so if you're in a hurry, you will be upset. 3:30 all is back to normal.
Hesitated to leave my review here because this is the best sit down dim sum place in the Bay Area and I am afraid it gets too popular as more reviews come in. I’ve been to this place twice and it’s best to come before 11am on the weekends. Only waited for 15 mins for group of 3. Seems longer wait for large groups. The space is not big compared to other sit down dim sum places so no room for dim sum cart and everything is ordered through menu. There is a wait for the food but the service is amazing. Super friendly staffs and the food is worth the wait. Turnip cake is the best I had in the bay. Porridge is so yummy but soup dumplings is okay. Everything is so soft and the quality beats the prices compared to other places. Will definitely come back again and again!
The dim sum staples are all decent, but it's the unique items that earned the 5 stars despite the long wait and below average ambience. The Snowy Baked BBQ buns are coated with a sugary frosting which create a unique flavor. I have never had the crispy shrimp chang fun (rice noodle) before and it's so good that I wish I ordered more. The Deep Fried Tofu Skin Wrap is another one that I will miss when I go back home. I've had tofu skins in soup and steamed plenty of times, but never like a spring roll wrap. The ladies that served us were friendly and informative. Enjoyed the brunch even though a 45 minutes wait on a Monday @ 12:30 PM
They started off with a pot of hot jasmine tea, yummm!! They serve many small bites like pork buns. So good
This place is chaotic, crowded and often busy but don’t let that deter you. The dim sum here is good. Dim sum restaurants these days don’t push their dishes on carts anymore so you can mark your selections on a menu so it’s pretty easy. They carry most of the common dishes and their pineapple char-shiu bao is excellent.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland. Food and kitchen are consistently good, sometimes verging on fantastic. Prices very good. Service very good, but remember some staff may have limited english skills. This is the kind of place where they remember you after you've been there a few times. I'm not at all surprised some reviewers felt this was the best dimsum they had found outside of Hong Kong. Portions are large, and they don't skimp. You can tell the quality of the kitchen because prawns are generally nearly perfectly cooked. Almost everything on menu is very good to excellent. Standouts: iron plate stuffed eggplant. Whatever you do don't leave any of the sauce! Sort of that perfect sweet spot between price quality and vibe/service only the food is much better than what you might expect from the exterior and interior, which are fairly functional. I really like the people who work there. I have no idea why any reviewer would complain about bad service. I've come here for years and have never seen them be less than polite and competent so take those reviews with huge grain of salt.

Go get yourself a bowl of congee and pork buns. Dim sum that's truly tasty

It's not fancy, but delivers your standard dim sum favourites fresh and warm. Good fresh ingredients and just delicious. I almost hate sharing this review because it will become even more popular and harder to get a table! Best in all of Oakland and neighboring Alameda.
10/10! Today was my first time here,Im visiting from LA and wanted to try a popular food spot in Oakland. I was a little skeptical about coming on Christmas day,but surprisingly the wait wasnt bad. The servers were great & attentive. My family and I ordered about 7/8 dishes to try & we loved most of them. I would definitely go back to try other items on their menu!
Low-key dim sum place that serves food as good as $$$ places. Has some unique dishes that I have not seen much at other dim sum places, like durian puff, or chiuchau/teowchow dumplings, or the steamed ube rice cake dessert thing that i forgot the name of. Dim sum is also served til much later in the day than expected, with us coming in at 2pm and still got a table and enough time to eat a lot of the menu. Pricing is cheaper than south bay/sf
Nice and clean inside, atmosphere inside is on par with Oakland china town experience. Price is reasonable, cheaper than places outside of china town. Flavor is on the heavier side, more salty and flavorful, but authentic. Less choices but big on portion.
no cart, which is fine cause the dim sum is real good. sui mai was fantastic and huuuge. sticky rice with salted egg yolk yummm. fried spring rolls were killer and flavor packed. tea was kept topped up. overall better than east ocean, but also its not a banquet hall so keep that in mind.
Absolutely the best dim sum in the East bay hands down. Maybe the best dim sum I’ve ever eaten. And they actually have great customer service. We ate so many dishes off the menu and everything was delicious!!!!
Loud authentic Chinese dim sum place with lots of delicious dishes and friendly service. Lines wait outside for a reason! The dim sum menu is not super extensive but everything they make is delicious!! We’ve been coming here since they opened. Family owned and run business. Love it!

Took a recommendation from a trusted source and stopped by to try Ming’s Tasty. The siu mai and har gao were both pretty good, large in size, and good flavor and texture. Also went with the turnip cake that tasted fresh and was a good portion. Didn’t stay to eat in the somewhat cavernous hall of dining space they have. No cart service but decent for a place that has seemingly been around a long time.
I ordered online from Ming’s Tasty and picked up my food at the store. I tried a variety of dishes, including the pork and shrimp dumplings, steamed shrimp dumplings, baked BBQ pork buns, egg yolk custard buns, pork ribs in black bean sauce, and fried tofu skin wrap with shrimp. All of the dishes were incredibly delicious and flavorful! I highly recommend the baked BBQ pork buns—the outer crust is slightly crispy and has a delightful sweetness. Every dish with shrimp was particularly impressive, filled generously with shrimp and very satisfying.
Decided to go there for lunch with family after Church after reading the reviews on Yelp. The snowy bbq bun is indeed delicious, but the filling was quite just ok. Siumai is a must try. Did not find the hargow all that great. Prices are very reasonable and you cannot get that price anywhere else. No complaints about the service. They refilled the tea without been asked to and even gave us extra napkins when they saw we have used all of ours.
Best dimsum in Oakland, by far. All the dimsum tastes good and very affordable. The wait can be very long thou
Came here for a friend's birthday party of four because we knew we could get down with the dim sum. To be honest, I don't know everything we ordered because a friend frequents here a few times a month, so she did all the ordering, but I do know some things we had. We had the turnip cake, pan-fried pork bun, deep-fried tofu skin wrap with shrimp, baked barbecue pork bun, crispy spring rolls, thousand fried shrimp balls, pea sprout dumpling with shrimp, steamed shrimp dumpling (har gow), rice noodle roll with beef and cilantro, choy sum with oyster sauce, and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. We also had rice noodle rolls with shrimp and tea as much as you want. I'm missing a few things here, but you get the drift, we stuffed our faces. Our bill came out to $112 for all these items, and we duplicated some orders. It's not a fancy place by any means, but they pay attention to when you have empty dishes and pick them up really quickly. They also notice when your tea is empty and refill it promptly. The service is fast and efficient. I'll definitely come back here and grab more items.
Pretty good dim sum items! Good prices! Service was good! The dim sum items arrived hit and fresh on our table to enjoy! The servers were excellent in their customer service skills. It is located in the center of Oakland Chinatown; therefore, parking is tight at the area paid lots. When in the Chinatown area, this is a good place to fulfill a desire for a good dim sum meal at a reasonable price.
Tasty, fresh dim sum. The restaurant is a lot nicer inside than what you see outside.
Fair place. Good price in comparison to a lot of other places. Food quality okay. Do not order certain items. Be careful if order take out. Some items looks unappetizing, overfried and burned...

The place gets three stars for the Cantonese dim-sum food quality ONLY. Service, vicinities and overall customer appreciation do require major improvements! What to expect - Sitting at the table with someone you don’t know is very common; cigarette smoke from outside is normal; outside restroom with wide open doors; cold wind blowing through the main restaurant area is expected. As of food - Pork and shrimp dumplings and Rice noodle roll beef cilandre was something to try, where Crispy Durian Puffs is a must.
I've been coming here for the past 3 years and the food and service was always amazing. I recently came back and was extremely disappointed by how much change had happened in quality. It's all the same food still but there is a noticeable drop in the freshness of everything coming out. They have also become less inviting to anyone who doesn't speak Chinese so their service has definitely become worse over the past year. They will do things like ignore your table, seat you in the undesirable spots, and take your menu before you're done ordering to rush you. Very sad to see this place going down in quality.
