This review is late, but it's worth it. This is a fantastic steakhouse. The wagyu ribeye I ordered was the most succulent I've had. Great flavor, great searing, great cut. Very tender. The lobster was made to perfection as well. Also had the asparagus, it's a must. Seasoned so well. Baked potato was fluffy. Location indoors is very well maintained and lit just enough. Definitely feels romantic. But if you want to kick it a notch, sit outside. Looked amazing. Park was the worst part. Staff was fantastic. Prepared to pay well for the meal.
I’ve been a fan of this spot and Parkway next door. The food and customer service did not disappoint for a well deserved five star restaurant. I started with a traditional Old Fashion and our appetizers were their very delicious cheese garlic bread, half dozen oysters, jumbo shrimp, onion rings, and creamed spinach. All the sides were delicious but the garlic cheese bread and onion rings were the standouts and were phenomenal. I ordered their ribeye and it was a the perfect size, not too large and just the right amount of marbling/fat. The flavor was excellent and it was cooked perfectly at medium rare. I think I could have gone to a smaller size cut to account for all the other food. We finished the night off with their chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream and it was a phenomenal dessert. Overall it was an excellent dining experience with great customer service. The input from the wine sommelier was also great when suggesting a wine to pair with. I’d definitely come back again and try their other menu items. Parking is only valet from what I remember, I’d call to confirm because I took a train(A-line) to get here.
Amazing experience. Everything was incredible, the food, the service, and the ambiance. It was very dimly lit offering a very intimate atmosphere perfect for date night or any occasion. The steak was perfectly seasoned and delicious. I have never had butter that was this spreadable.
Arroyo Chop House is an exquisite and savory dining experience. The servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. Any menu item is elegantly presented in a timely fashion. The bar is first rate, too. This establishment is perfect for a special occasion, business dinner, or nice night out. I highly recommend Arroyo Chop House!
The filet mignon was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. We shared several sides and not one missed the mark. The truffle mac and cheese was rich without being heavy. The garlic mashed potatoes were velvety smooth. The Brussels sprouts had just the right char with crispy bacon for balance. Even the asparagus had a nice snap and vibrant flavor. The garlic sourdough bread came out warm and fresh, and I started with an espresso martini that was spot on. Our server, Christopher, was exceptional. He recommended a beautiful glass of Cabernet that paired perfectly with the steak. He was attentive without being overbearing and really elevated the experience. For dessert, we had the chocolate soufflé and they surprised me with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and raspberry drizzle to celebrate. A thoughtful touch! The service, ambiance, and food were all on point. Whether you’re celebrating or just craving a great steakhouse experience, this is one of those places worth coming back to. Easily five stars.
We had an amazing time celebrating my wife's birthday, atmosphere was great, plenty of work Christmas celebrations going on. We had made reservations and despite being busy we were seated right away. The service was good but our waiter was a little to pushy on trying to order things we didn't want, forgot our drinks during our appetizer course and just seemed a bit up in the clouds at time. Overall the decorations, the piano player and vibes were very pleasant. Dinner was amazing and definitely recommend this place. Definitely going back as the food selection is worth going back.
I was in town craving some good steak (I’m picky and I’m a foodie). I was very impressed and had the best experience here. Our waitress was Stevey and she was amazing! I will only be requesting her whenever I come back. She really took good care of us and made our party’s experience a 10/10. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a quality dinner.
Nice steakhouse. Good food, great bar. Great whiskey drinks on large, clear ice cubes. Better than Ruth's Chris for sure now, better than Alexander's to which I probably won't return after my last meal a year ago that was very mediocre. Same w Ruth's Chris, last visit very mediocre.
Food is just fantastic here overall. Classic steakhouse with brilliant dishes and great staff. Recommendations: - The garlic bread is delicious. It is decadent though so just make sure you know that going in. - ACH Mac & Cheese. It's actually a pretty solid Mac. I'm usually a bit hesitant on ordering Mac and cheese from some places but they've done well. - They had a NY trio as a special that has 4oz of NY strip, 4oz of American Wagyu, and 2oz of Japanese Wagyu. This is not always served but we were fortunate that they had some left. - Grand Marnier souffle was amazing. First time having something like this and it all just paired well together.
We had a wonderful experience. The Wagyu steak was amazing, and the dessert was just as great. The service was excellent from start to finish. It was my friend’s birthday, and they left a birthday card on our table before we even arrived—such a thoughtful and sweet touch. Everything was perfect.
First class all the way. Starting with very professional server Blair. Every thing I have ever had here was excellent in taste and quality of ingredients. The atmosphere is great when there are no kids here. Don't know why people insist on bringing their spawn to a high end, special occasion establishment, I guess to show you are so rich you can waste money on feeding fancy food to someone who would rather have McDonalds. Use the money to hire a sitter and have some consideration for other diners.
Arroyo became one of our favorite steak houses from the first time we visited this spot. We had the sourdough bread, porterhouse, Kansas City New York, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Brussels Sprouts, Broccolini, Sautéed Mountain Mushrooms, Butterscotch pudding, and New York cheesecake. Everything was perfect! One of my favorite items were the Kansas City New York which is a bone in New York strip steak, you don’t see it on every menu but when you do, know that you must try it because it’s usually one of the best cuts, and Arroyo knows how to do it really well. I like bone-in steaks to be cooked to a medium temperature and that move has not let me down thus far. You can’t really go wrong with a porterhouse either since you are effectively getting a bone-in New York and filet all in one. All the sides were great, my favorites were the broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes, i believe the waitress said that the broccolini was a special for the day so hopefully they have it when you go, but definitely try the garlic mashed too. I don’t think you’d be disappointed with any of the sides so feel free to explore, there are so many. The desserts were also quite amazing, my favorite was the Butterscotch Pudding. My friend had the idea of ordering it with a side of vanilla ice cream and wow was that a great idea, it only made it better. All in all, I think you’re going to be very happy with anything you order, everything was perfect. The service is amazing, no complaints whatsoever, it’s exactly what you can expect at a high quality restaurant. To add to the amazing quality, every time we’ve been here, the manager has come to our table and asked about our satisfaction, what a good idea, this is something I think every restaurant should do if they care about their clientele. I can imagine this has a lot to do with their pristine quality on everything. The ambiance is also so good, dimly lit, subtle sound of background conversations, comfortable seating, nice crowd, great staff, it all ties in together to make a masterpiece, I can’t stop singing this places praises. Side note, it feels like a great place for business related M&E situations. As for parking, it’s pretty much only valet and it’s not expensive, I don’t think you’d be able to park in the lot otherwise. There is street parking available as well, however, i have not used that but a couple friends have and they seem to find a spot pretty easily from what i understand. Overall, i love this spot, will absolutely be coming back whenever the opportunity arrives!
A well deserved 5 star! We completely enjoyed ourselves at Arroyo Chop House with their savory menu. Complement your meal with your choice from a variety of adult beverages and don’t forget to try a dessert. You can expect all this from a friendly and accommodating staff.
The service is extraordinary 👌 top it with an outstanding steak and you got a happy camper 😋
A must try for all the steak lovers! We received complimentary bread to start. Our waiter, Patrick, was very knowledgeable about the menu and led us to choose the best option for us. I ordered the steak sampler off of the specials menu which consisted of New York steak, New York American wagyu, and New York Japanese A5 wagyu. INCREDIBLE. So buttery and melted in your mouth. An amazing experience. This was our first time having wagyu and this was the perfect introduction. If you’ve never had Wagyu, this would be a great option. My husband ordered the filet mignon, which was surprisingly the “worst” meat on the table!! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned amazingly. We also ordered the béarnaise sauce which was a wonderful addition. Make sure to add on a sauce! We did not enjoy the truffle Mac and cheese. Kind of disappointing. I do not recommend. I recommend the New York sampler and the filet mignon! We ordered all of it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I’ve heard the soufflé is amazing but we couldn’t eat another bite. I’d save room for that next time!
I made reservations at Arroyo Chop House to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We were greeted by charming and welcoming valet attendants who were cheerful and smiling. The entrance to the restaurant is surrounded by beautiful flowers so we stopped to take some selfies and pics of the garden. Restaurant is dark and romantic. We were greeted immediately and sat at a table across from the gorgeous bar. Our server Lauren came over right away to review the menus and specials for the evening. Lauren was AMAZING! She took such good care of us all night! Everyone who touched our table was attentive and smiling all the time. I notice these things. Nothing worse than dining and being surrounded by staff that look and act miserable. That was not the case at Arroyo. We’re feeling good with all the energy being fed to us by they staff (even the manager came by to check on our table, speak with us a bit and make sure all was well)…now on to the food and drink!! Every dish and cocktail was perfect! We ordered the half and half sourdough and garlic bread, chopped salad and oysters to start. Our dinners were the filet, New York strip steak and lobster. For dessert, the dark chocolate soufflé served with whipped cream and ice cream. I had three cocktails, La Poire, Mrs. Pink, and a sambuca. Each was beautiful to look at and equally delicious! I want to add that the restaurant presented a handwritten birthday card at our table upon arrival and candle on dessert. I really appreciated this extra touch to make my birthday guy feel special. Arroyo is just over the top in their level of service from beginning to end. You’re in good hands here for any special occasion!
This steak house never disappoints! Such a great spot, they make celebrations so fun and special. It's definitely my favorite place for a steak. And always save room for desert! It takes 20 minutes, so order it ahead or time. The only thing I didn't love was their cocktails. I liked 1 out of the 3 we ordered.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Arroyo Chop House, and it was an experience to remember! I had an unexpected craving for steak, and I’m so glad I decided to indulge. Despite the restaurant being busy, I was seated at the bar where the service was exceptional. The staff was attentive and friendly, making me feel right at home. The steak I ordered was absolutely delicious—cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service made it worth every penny. I highly recommend Arroyo Chop House for anyone looking for a fantastic meal. I can’t wait to return!
What an excellent way to spend the holiday season with friends! Great atmosphere, even though the restaurant was full, we could talk and hear each other. They have a broad menu with something for everyone. We had steaks, fish, broccolini, and fantastic lobster mash potatoes!!
Wow. Such a great experience. We sat outside in their very spacious outdoor covered seating and it was a beautiful night with plenty of heaters if you get cold. The food was amazing. Had some oysters to start and my uncle had the potato leek soup. Multiple family members got the Chilean sea bass which l tried and it was phenomenal. I had their Wagyu sampler which had a total of 10oz if steak including 4oz of American Wagyu and 2oz of A5 Japanese Wagyu. This was my first time trying the Japanese Wagyu and it was absolutely amazing. Unlike any other steak I've had before. Highly recommend if youve never had it before. We had various sides (all must be ordered a la carte) including brocollini, mashed potatoes, and the mushrooms and they were all perfectly cooked. Cocktails were very good though the martinis werent the best we've had. Great wine selection as well. Service was awesome. Highly recommend over any of the chain steakhouses like Flemming or Ruth Chris. They also gave us a complimentary Apple pie for my graduation!
This place is great and you won't be disappointed. Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! This will definitely be a place my Husband and I return to for special occasions that call for a great meal. We ordered and enjoyed the Lobster Bisque, Caesar Salad, Kansas city New York which was cooked to perfection, marinated chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, loaded baked potato, asparagus, and New York cheesecake for dessert. Enjoyed the Jungle baby cocktail and a glass of Pinot Noir with dinner. Best meal out I've had in a long time!
I come in on 2/1/2022 to celebrate Chinese New Year, Very delicious food and friendly staff, valet parking but need pay $7. I treat the dinner and totally paid $200 including tip. Not bad, but I am so busy today, I hope come back in the future.
Chose the Arroyo Chop House to celebrate my wife's birthday with some close friends. There were beautiful flowers and a card waiting at the table when we arrived along with a nice ambiance inside the Restaurant. The service for our table was so enjoyable thanks to Lauren! Our food was absolutely delicious starting with the warm garlic and sourdough bread; to the wedge salad. Our sides (caramelized corn, scalloped potatoes and truffle mac & cheese) were perfect compliments to the filets we ordered which were all cooked to perfection. The chocolate souffle for dessert capped the entire experience. My wife and I will most certainly be coming back!
Ordered the Ahi tuna, it was delicious. It came with a sauce that went well with the tuna. Good portion. Spinach was okay. The bread was also very good. The restaurant can get quite busy. Service was also lovely. Hope to revisit again.
Arroyo Chop House it's worth all the hype and fame. I enjoyed the huge shrimp cocktail and the surf and turf. Everything was cooked to perfection and you could cut the filet with the edge of a fork.
First time dining out in almost a year. Celebrated my birthday. Food is always good. Service was great. Good timing on the various courses being delivered to the table.
Always a great dining experience. The steak is undoubtedly top-notch, but believe it or not the sourdough bread is worth the trip alone. Shout-out to Steph at the bar. I have known Steph for many years, across various restaurants, and she has always been a kind, funny, authentic, charming, welcoming, gregarious, fantastic, lovely, honest, charming (I think I already said that), warm, professional, knowledgeable, attentive, fascinating, hilarious, and great staff member (and person!). She is an asset to any restaurant that she is at.
I guess inasmuch as it says "Chop House" in the name my personal feeling the menu is a tiny bit restricted might not really mean much. The food's great and the service is even better. The Grand Marnier souffle is a must for dessert, so make sure you leave room for it.
The name of my organization I belong to is Giant steps training program. We attended the chophouse after a weekend open house we had in Altadena to celebrate our new beginnings. The chophouse was gracious enough to accommodate the party, and really made the night.
Everything what you expect from a steakhouse was provided to the best customer satisfaction. From, the atmosphere you can tell it’s a place to have enjoyment, but can also be quiet or be loud as you want. The service was absolute amazing, hands-down! From the very beginning to the very end, our wages paid attention to detail on everything we ordered provided drinks with our meals and even asked us for recommendations. Onto to the food everything was so delicious except for the tomahawk unfortunately, this was more on the medium than medium rare, which was totally unexpected given, the prestige Arroyo Chophouse is.
The atmosphere and the lobster mashed potatoes are really good. Mash the lobster mashed potatoes have really good flavor. The atmosphere was very elegant. I ended up getting the petite filet mignon and it could have used a little bit more flavor but overall it was good. The service was great. The prices were typical for an upscale restaurant. The drinks were nice and strong.
Great steakhouse in Pasadena. Get the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer (or the salad). Smokey Manhattan with a filet will keep me coming back! We had great service tonight as well. Souffle is worth the wait but order it early!
Really enjoyed the overall experience — food was good, drinks could use some work, ordered a dry martini and wished it was a little better —— service and atmosphere were brilliant - good quality steak. Would recommend a visit
I have been coming here for nearly 30 years.. it is one of the best steaks house in Southern California and was mentioned in Michilin in 2020. This iconic restaurant is a perfect place for any celebration especially birthdays… love the Old Fashioned cocktail, pancetta wrapped scallops is done in perfection. My favorite soufflé was kind of dry tonight, shrimp cocktail is good and you just can’t skip the meat… ribeye is my choice… mushrooms was awesome! Perfect for date night as well as male bonding with a good friend! Back again this time for a Christmas party! So festive ! And baseball legend Orel Hershiser sit next to us..
Stepping into Arroyo Chophouse in Pasadena was like entering a realm of culinary delight. With its timeless reputation, it's no wonder that this restaurant has become a staple for steak lovers like myself. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the bone-in ribeye Texas steak. The expertly cooked steak boasted a charred crust on the outside that gave way to a tender and juicy interior, showcasing the skillful mastery of the chefs. But the culinary journey didn't stop there. The cod dish, with its delicate flavors and impeccable seasoning, left a lasting impression. And then there was the soufflé dessert - a true testament to the chef's artistry. Each spoonful revealed a burst of flavors and textures that danced on the palate, leaving me in awe of the culinary creativity on display. However, amidst the culinary wonders, there was a minor drawback. The restaurant's ambiance, while undoubtedly cozy and intimate, was also quite dark. While it added to the establishment's charm, it posed a challenge when it came to reading the menu and attempting to capture photographs that did justice to the exceptional dishes. Despite this, Arroyo Chophouse's enduring presence in Pasadena is a testament to its dedication to quality and excellence. It has carved a special place in the hearts of those who appreciate a well-prepared steak and a memorable dining experience. For anyone seeking a truly exquisite meal and a taste of tradition, Arroyo Chophouse is the go-to destination that continues to deliver exceptional culinary delights.
Grade B (86): I've been to the Chop House many times, this time I was a bit disappointed. There were 6 of us, 5 of us ordered steaks. 2 fillet Mignons, a boneless ribeye and 2 Cowboy Ribeyes. $77 for a Cowboy Ribeye and mine comes with what seems like the chef was hungry and took a bite out of it!! I don't know how that's even presentable! Really guys, at a restaurant like this? You give me a steak that looks like you bought from Smart & Final and took a bite out of it before bringing it to me? My friend's cowboy Ribeye was just fine, if you compare the pictures you'll see. Both were coming to the same table, this was such an amatuer move. I didn't want to ruin anyone else's evening so I just ate it without saying anything. But it makes me think twice next time. Too bad, I liked the Chop House.
The two most popular steakhouses mentioned to me in the Pasadena area are Alexander’s and Arroyo Chop House. I’ve dined @ Alexander’s a few times so tonight I got the chance to compare ACH to Alexander’s to see which is my favorite. Parking @ Alexander’s is easier because they have an underground lot next door. I was able to find street parking tonight but the best option usually for ACH will be valet. I would say I like the design of ACH more as it’s closer to a classy California style whereas Alexander’s looks like a standard steakhouse. Our server tonight was polite but when we sat down she asked “would you like bread for the table? We have some garlic bread and sourdough, but most people get a mix of both.” So we said “sure that sounds nice” and then when we got the bill there was a $9 charge for bread.. I still paid for it but didn’t really consent to ordering it as I had no idea it was for a charge, so I did not enjoy that part of the meal. I started off with the Prime Chili as I don’t eat Chili often, but being in a steakhouse with premium meat products and in a city that is obsessed with chili I felt it was a good call. It really was tasty with steak chunks in it. For my entree I chose the Filet Mignon and it was pretty good with a smokey type flavor, but it was a bit under cooked and the kitchen had cut into it a few times so it came out ugly; so I would have to say it was not as good as Alexander’s steak, which does not have a smokey flavor (my preference. Char flavor is nice, but different from smokey flavor). For our dessert we chose the Grand Marnier Soufflé and being my favorite dish to order for dessert I expected to like this and really did; it was a great end to the meal and large in size. Overall a really nice dinner although I do like the steak @ Alexander’s slightly more I enjoyed my experience tonight at Arroyo, aside from the bread incident, and would come back in the future. Due to the steak being undercooked, and the up charge with the bread, I have to give this place a 4/5 because I did not encounter any of those problems at Alexander’s any of the other times I dined there.
Food was good quality - my steak was cooked perfectly but my friends was over cooked. Highly recommend the Mac and cheese as well as the half half bread which was amazing. Only thing that could work on is service. After being seated with a reservation no one paid attention to us for about 15 minutes even though they weren’t busy - no menu, no water, nothing. After, service was pretty good.
Solid steak house competing with the best in LA. We tried the fillet mignon, ribeye, Australian lobster tail and lamb chop. Ribeye was probably the favorite-the most flavorful and beefy flavored item. The sides of mountain mushrooms were great and well portioned while the creamed spinach was a bit rich for some palettes, but just right by my standards. Desserts were quite large and good for sharing. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was it was a bit louder than we expected. Perhaps something could be done about the acoustics.
The service was great. I was shocked that actually Lamb chops were not on the menu. I did not like that it was so dark. I could barely read the menu. I also didn't like that everything was a la carte. They did have chops, on menu of the night. They were pretty good. Def worth the $55. And the sides were good. I had mac, Brussels & mash. All good. We also had a chocolate soufle. It was soo silky & smooth. Definitely worth saving space. I did like the flowers outside & I also recommend a reservation b/c they seem to be pretty popular. Dinner for 3 was $350.
Great steaks, fresh flavorful. Mine needed a little salt. I had the porterhouse and my brother had the kc nyc strip. Sides were asparagus and mountain mushrooms plus a cheesy potatoes au gratinThe scallops with pancetta was awesome and the crab cocktail delicious. The samurai drink and of course an Aperolspritz for moi. For dessert can't go wrong with chocolate souffle and double espresso. Excellent service and great waitress, you know who you were, the one that worked on yachts with 7 star service
The steak was very good. But pricey. Any and all sides are ala cart and a bit pricey as well. I got a steak and a loaded baked potato with an iced tea. $137 plus tip. It was very loud because a few people in the restaurant apparently love attention and they were talking so loud and laughing really loud. Two separate tables in two different sections. Even other people at other tables were looking due to how loud and obnoxious this lady was one section over from me…. I had stereo loudness since the 1 guy with three other guys apparently liked attention too on the other side of me. I tried to just tune it all out but it was very hard. If you want a quiet dinner, count this one out. I think the restaurant should let diners know when they are getting a little too loud. Even though the steak was decent, I make one just as good at home and for much less!
This is our favorite restaurant and always have a great time. The food and service are always exceptional. This review is for the valet service. We ended up getting the car valet we didn’t think much of it during pick up. However they took a while to get my car back out which seemed suspicious to me. After waiting for about 5-10 mins my gut feeling told me to check the car. As I walk around the car I noticed a scratch on the rear door. It’s not the biggest issue , but honesty goes a long way. The restaurant is great but I would exercise caution if using the valet service.
Been there b4 but food was not Up To what I remember it to be....my wife & I were disappointed in our experience. Lobster mash potatoes very bland, chicken was cooked perfectly & delicious, crab cakes were also good, jalapeno corn was my favorite, scallops were good but sauce didn't go well with it, truffle Mac and cheese was my least favorite, my rib eye steak was also very bland but tasted so/so.. I don't see my wife & I going back to the arroyo chop house again.
Been here several times now. Compared to others, their steaks are mid at best, especially based on the price. I can’t put my finger on what exactly, but I think it’s a combination of the quality and how they’re prepared.
Ambience on outdoor patio and music, best I've ever heard in a restaurant, 60's mellow classic hits; was great! Lots of air, but still well covered. BUT, way overpriced "jumbo" lobster tail for $85 was not 10 - 12 Oz, more like 6 Oz, overcooked, tasteless, even the melted butter was tasteless. No sides included, and you pay for bread! Only reason I came here was because Pasadena Weekly said it was best of Pasadena, and it was someone's birthday. Small chopped salad could've used apples or pears to balance, and leave out the old, hard, potato strips that could've broken a tooth. Cheap knives not sharp enough to cut filet mignon easily, and butter not cold. Bread, mints, filet and water ok, but everything else disappointing. The servers were way too eager to leave the table, so barely able to make a request. The waiter was kind enough to give me a discount, but still very disappointing. Even the free chocolate cake seemed old, hard, and as if not covered in the frig. Chairs heavy and hard to move, so it makes a big noise getting up from the table (on patio). The building, music, and ambience was so nice, I hope the owners/manager improve these things, but I wont be back and cannot recommend this restaurant. We left feeling hungry and ripped off. I'd go to Red Lobster or Black Angus for a lobster next time!
