Fresh & hot. The banana bread was really worth it! Service was excellent. Definitely going back. Great job everyone!
Oh my Skittles! This is absolutely one of the best coffee shops I have ever been to. I traveled all the way to Pasadena to meet a friend and wanted to support a small business for our brunch experience. Anyone could go to Denny’s. I chose The Reyn due to their great reviews and I was not at all in the least disappointed. Neither was mom or Esther! The service was spot on and our waitress was very attentive and catered to our every desire. She suggested the banana bread and oh my gravy it was delish! Mom had some of the best French Toast she’s ever had. I had a cheeseburger that had that grill flavor you could usually only hope for. The place was packed with a flow of people coming and going. The locals apparently know all about this jewel in Pasadena. We will definitely be back. Great food, service, atmosphere, and prices. If you rely on a couple of negative reviews, you will miss out on a great experience. And even I asked, “What is that reviewer leaving out about the extent of their experience?” We will never know the other side of their story, but I know how mine ended: full belly, happy palate, and a desire to return again and again. Try it, you’ll like it.
Wow, what a place, totally great food, the servers are all friendly and helpful. When I was a kid in the 60’s I loved getting patty melt sandwiches. Over the years I have never found a place that did them right - this place does and took me back in time. The manager really has a great attitude and it shows up in everything at this place.
I had such a great experience at The Reyn Coffee Shop in Pasadena! I ordered the Italian Sausage omelet with tater tots and banana bread, and everything was delicious. The omelet was perfectly cooked, the tater tots were crispy, and the banana bread was a wonderful sweet touch. What really stood out was the exceptional service—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. It made the meal feel even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this spot for a hearty breakfast and warm hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!
This is a hidden gem 💎 It is a local cafe ! Small, but so worth it ! Be patient ! We were greeted at the back entrance & placed our name on the waiting list ! It took only a few minutes to be called & seated for 3 ! The food is amazing ! Staff is very friendly and got our drinks before we ordered ! 10 out of 10 !
This is an old school restaurant in Pasadena that is a gem. They have amazing waffles. It gets busy on Sundays, so get there early. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a great diner. Chicken fried steak is also yummy!
One of my top three go-to breakfast spots. They have incredible hashbrowns and make eggs as ordered. Big portions here, but no complaints on that front :) Banana bread is bomb. They also have decent grits which is a rarity around here (caution: if you are a southerner like myself, you do have to dress them yourself, but still nice to have them on the menu as an option). Service is very friendly! Wait is never too long.
A small but impressive diner in southern Pasadena. They honestly have the best banana bread that I’ve ever had and would be a reason to visit alone, but honestly all the food is seriously delicious, the portion sizes are large, and the pricing is very fair. I would say that this diner leans more toward a Mexican diner in that they have a lot of Mexican dishes as well as clientele which being from San Diego myself I’m definitely not complaining about. Our server was extremely polite and all of our items arrived fairly quickly after ordering them. They have a large parking lot attached outback with free and easy parking however inside is very small so there’s limited seating. They do have some tables outside, but you may have to wait a bit to sit inside depending on how crowded it is. As mentioned, we started off with the Banana Bread and honestly, it was incredible. My girlfriend does not like banana bread, but loved this one which shows how good it is. For my breakfast I ordered the Ortega Supreme and got a side of hashbrowns with chili cheese on top. The omelette was very good and filled with a lot of chilies which I loved, but I was not a very big fan of the chili. It tasted too cooked, almost as if it had been in the pot too long, giving it an almost burnt flavor. Aside from that though everything else was very good and we already are eager to visit again. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of diners or is searching for a great breakfast or lunch option in Pasadena.
You had me at homemade banana bread. The breakfast was perfect! I was too hungry to take a pretty picture. My husband refused to let me too. And the prices? Lower than I've seen on the west coast. The place was PACKED. Only the locals seem to know. Now, I do too! Update: Unbelievable prices for LA, crispy hashbrowns, and still the best homemade banana bread!
Super food! Couldn't recommend it enough!! Pancakes are like the greatest cake ever! Every breakfast I've ordered is delicious! Atmosphere is ok. It is a little coffee shop and nothing more. (They close at 2 pm. Takeout is a great option, too! If you like breakfast, you'll love this place!
My goodness, best waffles in town. Pair it up with their rancheros (sub potatoes for hasbrown) and you got yourself an amazing breakfast. Be sure to check in early because the line fills up fast. If you don't, it is still worth the wait. Speedy service and great people working there. Definitely recommend.
I enjoyed the food there, the home potatoes are really good and the option to get banana bread instead of toast is great. The place is kinda of small and the waiting room is outside only under a tent but I think I will be back another time
I was looking for a breakfast spot with some decent seating and food, so I just stumbled upon here with a friend. Everything was so solid! If I imagine what a great all-American cafe diner is, this place fulfills all those expectations. So much Americana decor everywhere haha. And the waitress who served us was really sweet. Lots and lots of parking available.
Went here a few months back when many places were still closed so I was excited to sit outside and enjoy the food. Ordered the Chili Cheese Omelet with home fries plus onions, French Toast and a coffee. Food was tasty and the place was pretty full which was great. Omelet was yummy, well cooked and had nice flavors, home fries were cooked nice too. I love potatoes. Coffee was ok, not too watered down. French toast was yummy, not too soggy. Staff was pleasant, guy came to check often if I needed anything.
EDIT: I visited The Reyn today with my partner for breakfast, expecting a nice meal but left feeling disappointed. From the moment we sat down, we felt rushed. We placed our order right away, and my partner specifically asked for her hashbrowns to be very well done. The server seemed fine with the request, so we expected it would be no issue. However, when her food arrived, the hashbrowns were barely cooked. She sent them back, hoping they’d come out right on a second try. It ended up taking a full 10 minutes, and we had to remind them before the dish was finally returned—by which point we were about ready to leave. To add to the frustration, the hashbrowns still came back undercooked. When we went to pay, we mentioned the experience to the manager (bald, wearing a button-down shirt). Rather than being understanding or offering an apology, he just explained “how hashbrowns are cooked” and then brushed us off, asking us to pay without acknowledging our frustration. I don’t expect much, but his response left a sour impression. Two stars only because the food was edible, but I’m not planning on coming back. The service was disappointing from start to finish. ————— We visited The Reyn for breakfast for the first time and we weren’t disappointed. The prices were very reasonable, and the service was attentive and great. While the coffee was mediocre, everything else made up for it. They’re well known for their homemade banana bread, which was delicious and didn’t taste overly sweet. The old-school diner vibes, complete with Snoopy decor, were charming and nostalgic. It's a small place, but there's plenty of parking in the back and on the street. They also have a few outdoor seating spots, but I suggest you try to eat at one of the booths indoors to truly get a feel for the place. Highly recommend!
Food & Service is very good but the Owner's attitude spoils the entire experience. The owner, Israel, is rude & rigid. He doesn't listen to what the customer or even tries to understand the customer's point of view. I'm very dissatisfied with his demeanor & arrogant attitude. I will never return to the Reyn even though I've been eating there for 35 years, before he was the owner.
I was visiting from Florida and my sister took me to breakfast! As we finished my brother surprised me there with his daughter! There was no wait outside, so I told my brother to come in and we would sit with him while they had their breakfast! However the manager came to tell us they could not serve us because they only serve full party’s! I explained that there is no waiting and there are empty tables and we just want to sit with them! But he gave us no options a denied services! That is just unacceptable! To refuse service when you don’t have a wait and empty tables! My sister and I were still taking and having coffee! I would have ordered something else is necessary! So disappointed in humanity!
Very rude service. Waited outside in the blistering heat for over 15 minutes with my newborn and a 3 year old. Just for the door man to tell me that my family had been skipped over on the waiting list because he couldn't wait 5 minutes for my nursing girlfriend to come back from the parking lot. He then proceeded to tell me that he had three other families on the list ahead of me. After having skipped over me. Seemed odd because we were the only African-American family there and I think I see why. Definitely could have been racially motivated. I would not recommend this restaurant for any African-American patrons.
I have been coming here since I was very young. I've seen the change in management 3 times. I was happy to know all of management as they took over. Isreal took the business over serval years ago and uses to be nice. Now from reading other reviews, that has now changed and I experience it. He was rude. Although I can waste ur time to tell u my story, I won't. I will not be coming back here due to rude management behavior and I hope that one day I can meet the next owners. Maybe she or he won't forget where they started. Please humble yourself because it can all be taking from you. The food is good and the banana bread is the best. Sad I cant support this business anymore.
First and foremost, I have eaten at Reyn several times. One of the big draws for me is the accessibility and overall good service and food. Today, October 7, 2025, was a very disturbing, frightening and humiliating experience. I am 67 years old and have graduated from a wheelchair to a rollator for very small distances - a few feet. The Reyn has handicapped parking and a rear handicapped access so it worked for me previously. Today, after ordering lunch, paying and leaving a generous tip as usual, I was told that I could not use the back handicapped exit because it was near closing time and that I would need to just walk around the block to get to my handicapped space, which I was physically unable to do. When I explained to whom I assume was the manager - white, bald and overweight, who also refused to give his name, he was very rude and challenged why I could not walk a block or so, several times. He refused access to the handicapped exit which I was never told when I entered would occur. He said they had mopped the four foot area and although I saw no water I asked if they might dry it if that really was an issue. He said we are closing and that exit is not available - you need to walk around the block and leave. I told him that I could not and he said "Do not come here again." I am assuming that it was because I needed the handicapped access. This needs to be evaluated by the owner. If there is handicapped parking, I and others rely on getting back to it. If I had been put out on the front entrance, I would have been unable to get back to my car. I was also humiliated by the experience. Why was I told not to return. Frankly, I doubt that I will but I want others to know that this establishment is clearly one that discriminates against the disabled. Very sad, in this day and time. By the way and this is a direct quote, the manager stated "yelp is for cry babies" when I was begging him to leave by the entrance to which I could reach my car and thought mentioning yelp might help me get out of the restaurant.
