The "Fried Rice Test" Passed with Flying Colors! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have to thank Google Maps for recommending this place in the “Local Gems” section, otherwise I don’t think I would have found it myself. This place is indeed a true gem. The menu is small but it was still challenging to choose what to try, so I went for the dish I use to compare every Chinese and Taiwanese restaurant: fried rice. I know it sounds crazy since fried rice isn't the most "exotic" thing in Taiwan or China, but for those of us born in the Americas, fried rice is the first Asian food we ever learn to eat. It’s the ultimate benchmark. Don’t get me wrong, I have tried almost everything in Asian cuisine, but what determines if I’ll ever return to a restaurant is how good their fried rice is. Well, I’m definitely coming back this week! The food is absolutely delicious, and the wave of Asian customers that started flooding in right after I sat down is all the proof you need. Without a doubt, this is the best fried rice I’ve tried in the US so far. It’s honestly superior to the versions I’ve had at famous Taiwanese spots in NYC or California. The portion size was way more than I expected for the $11 I paid. Great food that is actually affordable? In 2026? Insane! Plus, the meal even came with a bowl of soup. Unbelievable. I already know I need to come back at least 3 or 4 more times to try the Chow Mei-Fun, the fried chicken, and that lunch box where you can pick 3 proteins. I’ll be sure to update this once I’ve tasted the rest of the menu! I forgot to mention, this is a Cash Only place. It’s one way to keep costs low.
It has gotten a little more expensive at $12/tray now, so not as fantastically good value anymore. Still, the food is good, as long as you don't go too late in which case it will have gotten cold and/or run out. The service varies in that portion sizes vary depending on which family member is serving your tray. Atmosphere is standard mom-and-pop Taiwanese restaurant. Don't forget - cash only!
I was amazed that you can enjoy food this good at such a reasonable price! You can pick three main dishes with the “Pick 3” option. I chose stir-fried beef with asparagus, tofu in mala sauce, and fried chicken. All three were well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. The flavors reminded me of what I’ve had in Taiwan. The fried chicken was quite similar to Taiwanese “Ji Pai.” Soup is self-serve and has an anchovy broth base. The black bean noodles have a strong fermented soybean flavor — more like the Chinese-style Zhajiangmian rather than the Korean version, with plenty of meat and vegetables. The staff was friendly, and there were plenty of tables and chairs available.
I went to their old location about 20 years ago when I was in UTD near by, I remembered one day I was disappointed not seeing them there, a week ago I saw them across social media. Took my son today he loves it food is excellent and cheap, if they existed in Arlington. Texas area they wood sellout, love this place always
I wanted to branch out from my regular go-tos and this restaurant is too close to home to overlook. I am soooo glad I took a chance! The lady serving me was so kind and helpful with deciding what foods to try. The food itself was amazing- the chicken was moist and falling off the bone, green beans crisp and juicy, and the seaweed soup was incredible. Truly amazing quality at such an affordable price. Highly recommend! The only downside is that it only takes five minutes to get here from home… dangerously close. Guess I’ll have to come again!
Great service, great people. This used to be my go-to take out place during covid-19. It's one of the few places that reminded me of home. The old Taiwanese couple running the restaurant always gave me big portions of food and it usually last me a couple of meals. I already moved away but I still think of this place from time to time. Will definitely revisit this place when I'm back in Dallas. Highly recommend.
I always have an amazing dining experience at Taiwan Cafe, I go twice a month! The tomato eggs are my favorite and they were perfectly seasoned, with a balance of sweetness and savory flavors that made each bite comforting and satisfying. The fiery fish was a standout dish—spicy, bold, and packed with flavor that left me craving more. The variety of dishes offered all had their own unique twists, showcasing authentic Taiwanese flavors. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy delicious, flavorful Taiwanese cuisine!
The food here gives me the feeling of eating at a college cafeteria. They are super generous on the food so the portion you get is huge. If you dine in, there is also soup you can get it yourself. I think the soup changes daily because I have been here two times and already tasted two different types of soups. So many different dishes to choose from. One thing to note that this place is cash only. The place is big with lots of tables and seating areas. Very fast service as well.
[6/2024] $10 always good. [10/16/2022][$16] brought my friend today. [10/12/2022][$9] this really my ideal Chinese restaurant, very efficient. You select 3 items and a rice. I had a fish, tofu, and fried veggies. They were all tasty. They aren’t your typical orange chicken or general tso. You need bring cash. [8/15/2021] [$8] This place doesn’t need my recommendation or endorsement. The place has a waiting line, and I can see why. Food is good. This mapo tofu is excellent. Portion is generous. I paid $8 for the 3 items entre. This place uses spice combination that I am not used to. They aren’t red pepper spices, what I can tell you…. There enough varieties in this buffet-like dining. I like.
This is of the best authentic meal you can get for $9 (which used to be $7)! It’s simple, you pick 3 entrees and rice, all for 9 BUCKS! Want some boba? Get it for an extra $1.50 with the meal. Make sure to bring cash though! My favorite is spicy fish, green beans, and fried chicken! There are so many options to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. The food is authentic and tastes amazing, my Taiwanese boyfriend’s family loves them! The owners are friendly and handled COVID-19 so well. I always get to go, but the dine-in tray looks great & even more filling than the togo boxes. There is free soup if you dine in so that’s a plus! If you visit during the weekend brunch hours (11-2 PM), then you can order some hot sweet soy milk and you tiao along with other classic Taiwanese breakfast dishes. Even though the prices went up due to inflation, it’s still worth it because one combo meal can last you up to 2 meals! Ps; Don’t forget to try their shaved ice dessert as well! It’s just your typical Taiwanese shaved ice with condensed milk and sugar syrup, but you get to pick 4 different toppings from the list— all for $7!
This little Chinese Mom & Pop shop has become a favorite for over 2 years. We almost always get their Steamed Beef Buns, Steamed Pork Buns, and Potstickers. Recently we tried one of the Vegetables Noodle dishes, and it was a HUGE hit with my 3 little kids. They're always serving up good, fresh made dishes that keep us coming back for more. The staff are warm and welcoming, and kind. They've even taken to learning our faces by our usual order, which actually is kind of nice. Our 3 kiddos love coming here for their Potstickers, and their Egg Drop Soup they serve. It is DEFINITELY a great stop in, if you love Chinese food and want a low energy environment.
Looking for cheap and good eats? Look no further. 3 entrees for only $7. Add a bubble tea for an extra dollar. The food is home style with stir fried items to stewed and braised items. On weekend they offer Chinese/Taiwanese style breakfast items such as soy milk with fried cullers, pan fried buns and numerous other items. The place is a hole in a wall but the owners are friendly and good yummy home style cooking. We usually order entrees off the menu and the portions are large and enough food for a couple of meals. Cash Only
This is a simple restaurant with decent food that is pre-made. You walk up and see the food behind the glass and they put the food on a platter. There are several types of meat and vegetable options. We ordered some greens, broccoli, eggplant, different styles of pork, and a tofu item... and of course rice. The platter is a great deal for the price. The taste is decent. We also got boba tea, but it was already sealed and refrigerated. It's not made to order. There is a complimentary seaweed soup you can scoop for yourself after you order. This is a CASH ONLY place.
This is a cash only restaurant. We came here for the breakfast, which is Saturdays and Sundays only from 11 to 2pm. We got the Scallion pancake with egg, 2 Salty rice roll, Salty soy milk, Sweet soy milk and a Baked pocket with beef. My favorite item was definitely the salty rice roll, followed the the sweet soy milk and then the scallion pancake with egg. I thought the food was kind of salty, so the soy milks were necessary. Very traditional Taiwanese styled breakfast.
Come in on Saturday for Taiwan style salty soybean soup and cruller. Mixed plates of mostly Taiwanese flavored dishes 3/$8. There is also fried rice and Bao so if you can’t find something to eat here you need therapy. 4-16-22 revisit Still tasty and soooo many choices. This is a true taste of Taiwanese home style cooking.
My wife and I went there after hearing great things. We went at 12:00 on Saturday and found the food cold and overcooked. This was almost reheated food. Quite disappointing
The chicken filet and pork chop have no taste, dry, and chewy. Vegetables taste like no seasoning and overcooked.
