We took my mom for an early Sunday dinner. The place was mostly empty, as expected. Urban Rio is an artfully decorated restaurant famous for its second story balcony overlooking the DART train tracks. It was cool and windy so we sat inside. Our table ordered the House-Smoked Brisket Tacos, Chicken Tortilla Soup, and the Tamale of the Month. The latter included two house made tamales filled with spinach, mushroom, and goat cheese topped with a rather large portion of chicken tinga and crema. The tacos and tamales came with a side of black beans and red and green rice. I also ordered a frozen margarita. The menu said it was $7 but I was charged only $4. A nice surprise. Everything was delicious. Chips come with a spicy salsa and a mild black bean dip. I would like to return for the Weekend Brunch served Saturday and Sunday from 11 - 3. The brunch menu includes chicken & waffles, a crab Benedict, and steak and eggs. Highly recommend!

Great lunch, brunch or dinner spot for Tex-Mex in historic downtown Plano. Downstairs has a good-sized waiting area adjacent to a bar. The dining area has table and booth seating. Upstairs has a larger bar plus indoor/outdoor tables (space was heated and enclosed for the winter weather). Both levels have plenty of mounted TVs. Service was great. Chips and salsa were tasty. I had the brisket tacos, (3 good-sized, delicious tacos) and a side of rice. My date ordered nachos. Portions were very generous.

Our first visit. We chose upstairs to see what the hype was about. It was a mid Saturday afternoon and the staff was having fun, serving guests quickly, interacting and still getting the job done. We had drinks, tacos, quesadillas and dessert. From start to finish, ZERO complaints! What a fun place upstairs and a great meal! We will be back to dine downstairs or on the patio. Thank you Saturday staff for a job well done!

Nice lively atmosphere, delicious food, good time. There are 2 levels at this place - the restaurant is on the 1st floor. And the Bar with Live Music is on the 2nd floor. The. Bar also serves food along with the drinks. We sat in the bar. The servers were nice, polite and friendly. Food was quite tasty, good-sized portions and we're at good prices. We ordered the Margaritas and they were great. I would highly recommend this place.

It was my first time. We sat in the upstairs section called "On the Rocks." Went here with a girlfriend to get some tacos. I had the fried fish tacos. Also had the Beer' Rita. It's a combination of Margarita and Beer, so delish. I'm not a beer drinker, but this was a good combo. Just don't pour all of the beer in. Maybe half the bottle would have been best for me. Great drink all the same. The service was great. The waiters were attentive and nice. My friend was a bit over demanding, yet they served with smiles and candor. There was a beautiful live music 🎶 beautiful 2 people band. Loved it. I loved every bit of my time here and will be coming back. The food, ambience, service, everything was perfect.

I'm not one to easily spill the beans, but I must acknowledge when something deserves credit. Wednesdays are the prime time for a $3 happy hour deal “crown and down“ or vodka 😜at the rooftop bar. While I've tried sitting downstairs, which is very nice, there's just something about the upstairs atmosphere that draws me in. It’s nothing special, but being on top with garage windows when the weather is perfect is what it is! The food is tasty! The beef skewers are a staple for me. The stuffed avocado was tasty, just needed more crunch factor. But we have no issue calling some people, relaxing with a drink in hand with the staff that are cool, down-to-earth people. Cheers!🥂

First time..enjoyed the atmosphere and service..we thought prices were good. Starter queso and chips, pretty good but may not order again. I ordered chile relleno and hubs Chimichurri Grilled Chicken Club. I did miss the traditional egg batter on the chile relleno tho I loved the crisp layer the Chile was aldente the filling had lots of cheese , tho I love cheese the taste of the ground beef and potato were missed..rice and beans were good not memorable, my husband loved the grilled onions in the Chimichurri Grilled Chicken Club brought all the flavors together. We do plan to return and try more on the menu, the guava habanero cocktail,Amazing!

Our Bartender/Server Toya, was Amazing. She was very honest about menu items, and just despite being so busy was very efficient. The frozen margaritas could have been stronger. The Beef Adobo Skewers Are The best thing on the menu I Think. They were bomb! Beans are made with Cinnamon flavoring, which 🙄 . We ate in the restaurant, not upstairs with live entertainment. Beautiful set up and wonderful atmosphere. Chips served with salsa and black refried beans flavored with something that reminded us of cinnamon... not a fan of that, but the salsa had a decent kick. Loved the flavors in the stuffed avocado, and carnitas were deliciously crispy. Service was disjointed, slow and inattentive - maybe due to training but they just couldn't get it together...

Extremely disappointed in my most recent visit to Urban Rio. I have been there many times with excellent service and zero complaints. Hadn’t been in a year, and it was my first time bringing my parents here so I had high hopes. They were dashed on many levels. First, we went at 3 on a Sunday. I’m aware that’s kind of between shifts but if you are open, I’d expect service. Entered and the waitress was coming from a table on the first floor- I made eye contact with her so she smiled and said ‘upstairs?’ I said we wanted a table in the main dining room and she took us to one, but it was reluctantly. There were two other tables in the main dining room so I figured someone was working down here and it shouldn’t be a problem. Asked the waitress to go ahead and grab waters while we were settling in, and if she could order us bean and cheese nachos (she did not understand what those were- it was a really rough conversation explaining this to her), but she finally seemed to get it. Took a solid 15 minutes for the water, and five more before it dawned on me that she probably hadn’t placed the order for nachos. In the mean time we HAD ordered margaritas, and I figured those would come at any time so I’d wait until she dropped them off to ask. It was 35 minutes from seating until we got the margaritas, and I would have already left at this point because we also didn’t SEE her, but I was with my older parents and they were having good conversation, so I didn’t want to ruin it. There was a manager at the bar, bartender was back and forth working and prepping, and some other waitstaff probably between shifts or just not covering downstairs, at the bar also. There was football on but I don’t think that was the draw. There was an incessant dinging. Non stop. I finally figured it that it was door dash orders that no one was accepting. Because no one was going anywhere near the hostess stand to press the accept button. Maybe there is another terminal to accept from, but I don’t think they were getting enough orders to account for this going off for 10-15 minutes straight at a time at this time of day. Margaritas came, and sure enough- nachos hadn’t been ordered. She didn’t understand I was asking her to order them when I originally asked. My sister had ordered queso when we were ordering the margaritas as well, which she meant as an appetizer, but it never came, so we figured she forgot that too. We never brought it up because if it wasn’t ordered, we weren’t paying for it so at this point no harm no foul. I could get into more, but it was just bad. Long story short, we placed our food orders, trying to salvage it, and it was over 30 minutes before my mom finally went to the manager at the bar and asked him how this place managed when they were busy, if this is how it was when they were slow. He came over and said something about a new POS system, but that food was almost ready. Another 10-15 and the food came. The manager didn’t seem interested in dealing with us. My sister’s queso came as a very small 2 ounce (I would’ve said 1) side & was charged $2.50 for it. Sigh. This waitress really needs more training. My parents ordered carne asada and thought it should have come with tortillas. It does other places but I get that it didn’t here. We asked for them. And were unknowingly charged for two orders - neither of which ended up being eaten. My parents were just over the place and wanted to go. This place has always charged for every tiny thing- and rarely explains that to you when you ask for it, so it’s jarring- but I honestly don’t care if I get the service. But with issue after issue, you’d think they could toss in some tortillas. It’s taken me a couple of weeks to post this because I had to decide if I wanted to, having had a long positive history here, but finally decided to do it, because I’m afraid a management change is causing permanent negative changes. My parents won’t ever try again, but I hope I will. And yes, I have many years in the service industry, so I have a lot of grace when it seems like people are trying.

It was my Granddaughter’s birthday she turned 5 today. My daughter did some research and after work we all gathered to go celebrate her. From the time we walked in until the time we left, it was a very lackluster experience. When we arrived inside there was a female and male hostess and host who never moved from behind the booth to help us. It’s a Tuesday evening and it didn’t appear to be busy. From the beginning they seemed to steer us upstairs although there seemed to be plenty of seating downstairs. We went upstairs where we were met with more indifference. The bartender literally stared at us but never asked us if we needed help. So did the waitresses. We had to ask to be seated and if they could put some tables together to accommodate us. The waitress seemed less than happy to help us (Love) but she did direct us to an area. There were 6 adults and 4 kids. My ex-husband was in the party and keep in mind this man has managed in the hospitality/restaurant industry since the 90s. He was so upset he refused to order food. We were literally about to leave but it’s 9pm a weeknight and getting the kids up to go find another place to eat wasn’t very appealing. So, we stayed reluctantly. As time went on, Love did make an attempt to warm up. But by this time my ex-husband was downstairs in the car waiting on us. No lie. The food came out hot, not good but not bad and bland. The food you can get over but the service was so horrible I’ll never dine there again. Maybe it was the kids but it doesn’t matter. It’s been a long time since we’ve had this horrible of an experience. We will not return and we will make sure our friends and family don’t either. My ex even went to speak with the manager Derrick where, shocker, he was met with even more indifference. As he made his case and voiced his concerns for the service or lack of we received, he stated Derrick simply continued folding silverware and took no action or offered any assistance. Needless to say what should have been a great evening to celebrate a 5 year old who thankfully doesn’t understand what happened to a pretty terrible experience where we stayed so we wouldn’t be inconvenienced. First and last time. Service still matters in 2025 folks.

If you want to clog your arteries and wake up in the middle of the night with very bad indigestion ordee the Lard drenched Birria Tacos. Also, God forbid you should ask if it can come with flour tortillas. If you do, make sure you ask before the order is put in "the computer" as that would cause your waitress to go down to the kitchen to tell the cook that you want flour tortillas in person.
