The chef at Roosevelts is incredible! Great simple menu with a wine selections that rivals any upscale restaurant. Food was so good I forget to take pictures! Chef Matt is a beast
The manager took us in at the end of night without a reservation. Thanks. He was polite and staff was super nice. The food was spectacular. Hit the spot after a 5 hour fishing trip.
We just finished the mist wonderful anniversary dinner. Snapper, steak and shrimp followed by creme broule and bread pudding desserts. The single most enjoyable restaurant meal in years.
We go to Roosevelt often. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. The best part I like about Roosevelt is they always have some new special on the board. It's nice to have choices for dinner.
Wow! I had the spicy seafood medley and wife had the petit filet and they were both out of this world. I honestly haven’t had a meal this good in a very long time! Paired with the Cabernet Sauvignon and My beautiful wife of 22 years and the evening was perfect! Well done and welcome back from Hurricane Harvey!!! Texas Strong!
Delicious. History. Good food. Fine dining in the island. And a cute historic bar in the courtyard for pre or post-dinner drinks.
We were here for my husband’s birthday. The service was wonderful. The food exceeded our expectations. Their potatoes were absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant for a great experience.
The most romantic and serene and casual fine dining on the island! We adore Roosevelts and eating inside or on the patio, it’s just a treat, especially if there’s a clear sky for the gorgeous sunset in their courtyard. Live music on some evenings and DELISH martini with HAND STUFFED BLUE CHEESE OLIVE. it’s just such a destination on this Texas ‘island’. Treat yourself to dinner, or even their yummy breakfast! Roosevelts is one of our very favorites!
A true gem. Estaban was an outstanding wait service person. He was knowledgeable of the uniqueness of the options on the menu. He was very engaging. Good was delicious with favorable sauces that complemented to the scallops and sea bass. The entire staff made our wedding anniversary celebration very special.
Our dinner experiece ranks among the finest in Port Aransas. Honestly, we had some of the best food that we had in a long time. The service was exceptional as well. An experoence to remember.
This place has really improved from the last time I was in town and has become the best fine dining spots on the island. My steak was cooked to perfection and melted when it was cut. The oysters are amazing and service top notch.
We are big foodies. Have eaten great food all around the world. This place is a hidden gem. We had grilled mahi mahi with lemon sauce, potatoes, mushroom risotto and ribeye with coconut shrimp. The crème brûlée and white chocolate bread pudding. Everything was a 11 out of 10!!!! Happy anniversary to us!!
Went to this place with my boyfriend and the food was AMAZING. Fresh fish, good oysters, amazing sauces. Do yourself a favor and get the white chocolate bread pudding...best dessert I've ever had. Amazing service as well!!!
Came back to Roosevelt after a very bad experience at the Venetian hot plate. The flounder was perfect, the wife's Fillet was also perfectly prepared. Came here once before for my dinner and we will return.
There were four of us on a quiet night. Every one thought the food was cooked perfectly and the wait staff were attentive without hanging over us. We are delighted to see Roosevelt's back online after Harvey and look forward to eating there everytime we visit the island.
We had a great filet. Truly excellent quality meat and well prepared. Grilled shrimp were also a standout.
My husband and I had been to several places on the Island with no success on a good take away. We went to Roosevelts and i am floored and amazed at the class, and impecable flavors of our meal. Chef Chris went over the top to open early (as we came an hour before they opened). He said he wouldnt turn away anyone. Then he artistically created us food that kept us wanting more. Our waitress was personal and pleasent. It was more than 5 star!
No to fried. Yes to excellent. While that's a bit of a niche in Port Aransas, it's something very worth trying. We had such a terrific dinner and experience, we booked for the next night and had more of the same.
All the food was great, I got the mahi and it was very fresh and mild. Fiance got the rack of lamb and loved it. Really hoping this place doesn't close, all the good restaurants in port a seem to close down.
Finally found a place that knows how to cook seafood so delicious. Had the snapper with shrimp ravioli. SUPERB! !!! I can't wait to visit again to taste the flounder. Other places in Port A don't even come close.
The BEST food and service on the island!! Joy and Kealsey were amazing and attentive. After our amazing meal! My wife and I received a card from the Roosevelt team for our anniversary!!!
Loved it. Excellent food and Excellent service. I'm not a "spring chicken". I hate that almost all young waiters, these days, interrupt my finishing my meal to ask about desert. OUR WAITER AT ROOSEVELT'S WAS EXCELLENT, PROFESSIONAL and very Pleasant. 👍👍
Dining at Roosevelt's in Port Aransas was an experience that far exceeded our expectations, marking a memorable evening for my family and me. From the moment we were greeted by our waiter, Tommy, whose service was nothing short of exceptional, we knew we were in for a treat. The calamari, a dish we often enjoy, was so delightful that we couldn't resist ordering a second serving. It was cooked to perfection, offering a balance of textures and flavors that left us craving more. The attention to detail in every dish was evident, with each bite transporting us to a culinary paradise. My daughter was enamored with the ice cream, which, in her words, was the perfect ending to her meal. Meanwhile, my wife's seafood medley pasta dish was a masterpiece of tastes and aromas, seamlessly blending the freshness of the ocean with the warmth of home-cooked pasta. It was, as she described, "off the charts." As for my filet mignon, it was flawlessly prepared, melting in my mouth with each savory bite. The quality of the meat and the skillful preparation made it clear why Roosevelt's has earned its reputation. In summary, our dinner at Roosevelt's was an unforgettable experience, thanks to the exquisite food, outstanding service from Tommy, and the warm, inviting atmosphere. It's a gem in Port Aransas that we can't wait to return to. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and visit Roosevelt's. You won't be disappointed.
Had the crab cakes as an appetizer they were great. The fiance had Mahi Mahi and I had shrimp and scallops. We both left full and very pleased with our visit.
Went for christmas eve dinner twenty twenty five , and it was spectacular.
Excellent service! Wonderfully cooked fresh food. Steak as soft as cotton candy! Great atmosphere, clean, will visit every time we’re here. Perfect recovery from the hurricane. No reason to go anywhere else for fine dining in Port A! Bonus, they will seat any size party over 6 people, much different from a neighboring fine dining facility.
Every time we eat at Roosevelt’s it is superb! We have had just about everything on the menu and always try the specials as well! One of our favorites is the crab claws, they are off menu, but are a special from time to time. You just can’t go wrong...the quail, the lamb, shrimp and steak, oyster Rockefeller, deserts, and the French press coffee...all so good! The service is excellent! Intimate setting and there is also seating outside. Roosevelt’s is our favorite! ,
We had dinner here on Saturday night and it was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. My husband and I had our 3 daughters with us (8, 10, 1) and they were still so welcoming and accommodating. The food was absolutely amazing - fresh, cooked perfectly, just plain delicious. We will for sure be back when we are in the area.
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner at Roosevelt's yesterday evening! I placed our reservations a week in advance and asked if the chef would consider adding Chilean Sea Bass to the evening specials as it is my husband's favorite. You should have seen the big grin on my husband's face when our server, Penny, listed off the specials! The Sea Bass was amazing and my Spicy Seafood Medley was wonderful. Hube thank you to the chef on our wonderful meals. Penny, our server, was an absolute pleasure and made sure our dining experience was excellent. Thank you Roosevelt's, we will be back!
Entrees were delicious, steak cooked perfectly. Appetizers needed some love. The drinks were pretty on point & bartender gave us excellent service. One of the best places to eat in PA
Great ahi steak. Good wine selection. One of my favorite spots in port a
Exceptional service, pretty good drinks, and great dinner options. Best oysters on the island.
What a wonderful experience! We arrived a little early and they were able to seat us right away. Our waiter was excellent. The oysters Rockefeller were some of the best we have ever had. Then steak and lobster all of which were cooked to our liking with some potatoes and asparagus. The only thing to nit pic at would be the asparagus ends could have been cut shorter. The key lime pie for dessert was also excellent. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but if you are going to spend money it should be very good and this meal was better than that. We will be back
Had an amazing experience here, glad to have made reservations when arriving. Had a family friend help us with picking food since she's eaten here a lot. The food was amazing the Roosevelt's Signature Bread was amazing as the balsamic vinegar isn't too overpowering, the portions were very filling, and everything also tasted amazing the Lobster Bisque did leave some desire. Other than that, be sure to dress nicely here! They have a sign that says dress code enforced so no going there after the beach in sandy swimwear and sandals. They do have an outside area where live music plays but the night I went the bar was serving as some kinda reception area for a wedding.
This place has some amazing food and a casual yet upscale feel about it. We ate a variety of their options, been the 4 of us that went, and everything was as close to perfection as possible, as far as how the seafood and steak was cooked and how it all tasted. I did ask for some of their house made Cesar dressing, as I opted for the soup instead of a salad with my meal, and the Cesar dressing was not my favorite for sure (it lacked that typical creamy Cesar kick in it), but the saffron sauce I had with my shrimp and scallops was on point. Also recommend dessert and coffee, the creme brulee and the chocolate mousse cake were both very delicious and the bailey's coffee topped it off perfectly.
The first 5 star I've found in Port A. It's fine dining with a business casual dress attitude (not pretentious, but management is keeping an eye on every detail). We were looking for a good steak and thanks to google, we found the Roosevelt. It's situated behind the hotel and there's a nice indoor/outdoor bar on property. This really would be a great place for a wedding. Anyway, the pictures are 100% accurate and the restaurant is very comfortable and relaxing. I think the description says intimate and my wife seemed to agree. We highly recommend the scallops appetizer, the filet, the raw oysters (meatiest ive had in years) and creme brulee. Note: the signature potatoes are an acquired taste. My wife didn't like the cheese they used, but I loved it and how the bottom was burned (layers of potato and cheese, cooked as a casserole). Again, 5 star experience all around. Thanks Roosevelt!
This place is really unique and the food is excellent. If you're in Port A and want a nice dining experience, this is the place. We had crab cakes and split the special which was a Ribeye and Shrimp. The steak was thin cut, which is not my thing, but the flavor was good. It came with Linguine which was off the charts good. I noticed it was on others' plates as well so perhaps it's their thing. In any event, I could eat a whole plate of that stuff. We grabbed some chocolate cake and key lime pie to go. The deserts are excellent, better than the entrees, in fact. The key lime was different in that it wasn't an actual pie, it was more of a couple scoops plated on some crust with toppings. Overall this is the best place to eat in Port A I have ever been to.
We had the best experience for our anniversary! Our server went above and beyond to make our experience special with amazing service and a card signed by the staff. The food was exquisite. The dessert was phenomenal. Chef Chris took time to greet each guest which enhanced our entire visit. We are so excited to return to try more menu items!
If there were an option for more stars it would also receive that many. The oysters were the best I’ve ever had. So was the halibut fish, and my wife’s meal was equally satisfying. This is not a chain, nothing here is just ‘regular’. It’s all selected and curated for a real experience. Roosevelt’s is a special place to visit. I can’t stress how damn good the food is here. Come hungry and please try the oysters. The flavors going on there will make you want to order an entire tray. The team is really genuine and friendly. Very easy to call and get a reservation and our server was impeccable and made it look easy. But he got to know ppl quickly and helped me choose a great wine. Please eat here, it’s without regrets.
Delicious food and fine dining. Friendly staff and quiet atmosphere. Best crab cakes I have had!
Yes it is expensive, but it is without a doubt one of the best restaurants on the island. The food is carefully thought out, and we'll executed. Every bite was high-quality ingredients and perfect preparation. The server was very good. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and attentive to our table. I would highly recommend this experience and plan on visiting here again on my next trip.
What a fabulous restaurant with the most amazing staff. I last ate here in 2017; the testament to the management and leadership of this organization is clear: they know how to attract and retain the right people. The wine selection is exceptional and the food was, simply put [with what I think is an apt metaphor], a veritable symphony on my palate. No, it was a ballet. Ugh. I don't know. Just. consider this recommendation with the most alluring and desirable imagery you can conjure up and it will be well, well worth your time to give these fine folks a shot at a fabulous dinner experience. Bravo to all involved!
Very pleased with our experience here! Atmosphere was fantastic, staff was incredible, and food was great.
Absolutely amazed at the quality of food that Roosevelt's puts out. The Oyster Rockefellers were the absolute best I've ever had. The steak was done to perfection, the bread pudding was perfect, and the service was phenomenal!!! If visiting Port A this is a must visit stop!
Great atmosphere! We ate appetizers in the bar. Dining room is really nice but we liked the open feel of the bar. Lots of great decor and comfortable seating inside as well as lovely outdoor tables. Had the spinach salad, bacon wrapped tenderloin (risotto was great! Another reviewer said it wasn't...), crab cakes, and key lime parfait for dessert. This was plenty for two. Yes, it's expensive but the overall experience is worth it.
OMG! This place is amazing! We went here during the tropical storm Nicholas and made reservations before hand for my Bachelorette party! We were treated so well, basically like queens. Thank you so much to the staff that made it so memorable for my girls and I! I can't remember our servers name, but you're amazing man!!! Thank you! We'll be back for sure!
We had dinner on our last night in Port A. We came in closer to closing time than we would of liked to but they were very accommodating. No bad vibes. The food was prepared fresh. They food was great. A hidden treat. Very clean and very attentive. They went above and beyond to make it a perfect evening. Thank you guys!
Our first time dining here and it did not disappoint! We were wanting a more intimate, nicer dinner in Port Aransas and this was perfect. We made reservations online on their website for a Sat night. We were seated immediately when we arrived. I had the lemon drop martini (refreshing and delicious) and my husband had wine. We ordered Roosevelt's Trio as an appetizer which has their signature coconut shrimp, a crabcake, and oysters Rockefeller. My favorite from this selection was their coconut shrimp - SO good. My husband had the spicy seafood medley pasta which was really good but REALLY spicy. I had the parmesan crusted flounder over linguini and it was very rich, filling, and delicious. We were super full but we couldn't pass up on their key lime pie, which is served in a cocktail type glass. The perfect ending to a great meal. Just what we were looking for. The setting is relaxed and cozy. Prices are higher but as expected. Service was great. We'll be back!
Open 7 days a week 0800-1100 for breakfast. 1100-1400 for lunch. Check out the 1886 Coffee House & Pub. The best restaurant on the island. Live music in the courtyard.

Went to Roosevelt's for my Surprise Birthday Dinner 🍽 🎂 The staff and Chef's were absolutely amazing! Atmosphere was quiet and romantic ♡ I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant for everyone living in or visiting Port Aransas. TX☆☆☆☆☆
Great as always, been coming here since I was a kid. Wish they would bring the lamb back, other than that totally fantastic
Five members of our family dined at the restaurant last Sunday evening (May 25th). Two of us had the firecracker tenderloin medallions stuffed with peppers and cheese. One the flounder and others the coconut shrimp. Food was fantastic. Tommie, our waiter, was the best. His knowledge of the menu and wine list was amazing. The chocolate cake a La mode was a perfect finale to a great dining experience. Would highly recommend this incredible restaurant.
I wish we had stopped to take pictures but we’re so eager to dive in to each course so no pics. The service here even in off season was exceptional. Kudos to the waiter and manager who kept pace with the large tables and our small party of two. In Port Aransas there are a so many fried seafood restaurants so was refreshing to find a restaurant that was anything but that. Our foos was prepared with care and the taste was amazing.. we had the bread appetizer and shared a wedge salad. For entrees we had the scallops and shrimp with mushroom risotto and the redfish with ricotta raviolis. OMG you have to go try these!
This place has an Old "Key West" kinda vibe; both the restaurant and the bar. The food is very good, as you would expect for the price. Our waiter was exceptional. We weren't rushed and each serve was well spaced. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

Staff was great. Drinks were tasty and balanced. The chicken and shrimp dish was delicious. The Bread pudding was better than advertised.
We've been going here for years, and were pleased to hear that they were finally reopened after Harvey. Victor does an excellent job with front of the house. We started with their famous bread appetizer, and Oysters Rockefeller. Both were excellent. We split the Flounder Parmesan, which came with Fetticine Alfredo and sauteed julienned vegetables. The crust on the fish was perfect, the Fetticine was creamy and the vegetables were not overcooked. However, everything was very underseasoned. I never reach for the salt and pepper at a fine restaurant like this, but I made an exception this time. There has probably been a complete turnover of staff, and Victor is doing a great job in front. The food was well prepared, but less inspired than in the past. I hope that they read this review and adjust accordingly. We've had many great meals there, which raised this review by a star.
The food was good, but not not for the exorbitant price. We had reservations or our party of 14. Order not taken in a timely manner. It took over an hour to get our food. Not likely to return in the near future. Oh, and wine on list was not available. They subbed another wine that was of lesser quality and still charged $125.
I really enjoyed the culinary experience here overall, but two distinct things kept it from being a 5-star evening. I started with the scallops in saffron sauce, which were absolutely wonderful and exactly what I was hoping for. My first drink, the Roosevelt’s Royal, was also delicious. For my main course, I ordered the steak special: tenderloin with Oscar topping and lemon sauce, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The seasoning and flavors were spot on, and the Pinot Noir I paired with it complemented the dish beautifully. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked. I ordered medium rare, but it came out more medium to medium-well. The flavor helped make up for it, but it was still a distracting mistake, especially given the quality of everything else. To finish, I ordered the key lime pie because I was at the coast and could not resist. The presentation was great, but the topping was clearly not real whipped cream. It was a hydrogenated substitute, which threw off the balance of the dessert. Service throughout the night was excellent, though I was almost not seated because my sweater vest showed a bit of midriff, so keep in mind the strict dress policy. The manager initially suggested I eat at the adjoining bar, but then followed me out and invited me back in. I appreciated that gesture, and my server took great care of me once I was seated. Overall, it was a memorable evening with wonderful flavors, and while the overcooked steak and the dessert kept it at four stars, I look forward to coming back.
We dined at Roosevelt's this evening, our last night of an extended stay in Port A for Thanksgiving... I must admit I'm struggling with the star rating here, as some things were great, and others not so great. I decided on the 4-star rating because many of the deficiencies were in the side dishes, not main courses, and Bar 1886 was an awesome end to the evening... Out of the gate we decided to forego cocktails and get to vino ... a bottle of Honig Sauvignon Blanc was brought and served, temperature perfect ... very reasonably priced in this day and age! We initially paired that with the "Cheesy Garlic Shrimp" appetizer and the special of the day clam chowder. The chowder was OK, pretty salty for our palates. On the other hand, the cheesy shrimp dish was on point... delicious! Served with toasted bread, we were thinking it may have been better with tortilla chips! In any event, the cheesy shrimp was OMG good... order that! It was huge, so we only finished about one-half! Our entrees included the seared scallops and shrimp, and the chicken shrimp "Invotini." Both entrees were very good, the shrimp, scallops and chicken were cooked perfectly... YUM! The sides (as noted above) were a bit off... the scalloped potatoes were so heavy on the thyme as to be inedible. The mushroom risotto was salty (common theme), and the asparagus side was undercooked. So, entrees 5-star, sides 3-star. After dinner we adjourned to the 1886 Bar, which is part of the restaurant. We maybe should have started and finished the evening there? A way cool bar, great vibe, served great appetizers and awesome cocktails. Mostly locals there, great conversations about Port A, and what's good and bad! If we had started and finished there, the score may have been 5-star. A great couple of cocktails and a "key limon pie" martini finished the evening. Drinks were good, the dessert was OTC (off the charts)! Darn good! Highly recommend Roosevelt's, but consider stopping in (and maybe eating at) Bar 1886 ... good evening, good folks, good times!

Food was ok. Went there for Thanksgiving. No gravey for the dressing or mashed potatoes. Both were dry. Dessert was very disappointing. Over cooked no flavor. Definitely did not get what we paid for. Will not go back.
Not fine food like they state, we ordered a couple of simple plates and they failed to prepare well, my Pork Chop was hard as a tire and too much salt and my wife's pasta with vegetales was bad too, anyway I would say don't waiste your time, they are going to charge you like if the food was actually good...
Service, attitude and environment were very nice. Staff was very friendly and professional. Food was very poor. I had the special-Sword fish, my wife had the Citrus grilled Mahi-Mahi, both were over cooked and dry. Neither of us finished our meal. The rice was even barely edible. Thought we would make it better with the White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert, not to be. Very disappointed and very expensive.
The small pepperoni pizza was good. They only carry small and large pizza, no medium. The side salad had quality lettuce and was very fresh. This is mainly a takeout restaurant. Decided to eat inside. No real plates or utensils just paper and plastic. Limited staff was friendly.
The food is delicious but the service all around is lacking which left our experience less than tasty. Especially during Corona 2020 when restaurants just opened. We felt less than welcome and they all acted like we were such a bother! The last straw is when they denied my 8 year old whipped cream for dessert because they didn’t want to make anymore yet they were serving whipped cream with their prepared dessert dishes. How hard can it be to make whipped cream? Plus, who would deny a child such a simple pleasure? This was only one of many little faux pas throughout the night. Fine Dining? I don’t think so.....
My wife and I went here for our anniversary on June 25, 2025. There aren't many fine dining options in the coastal bend and we had heard good things about this place. Most of the food that we tried was good, but nothing was great. The exception was the seared ahi tuna, which was just plain bad. They overcooked it, which made it chewy instead of smooth and buttery. I regret not sending it back. We recently had ahi tuna at nearby Grumbles that was significantly better for about a third of the price. Based on the price point, the overall quality of the food was disappointing. On a positive note, the service was very good and the atmosphere was charming. Another couple of things to be aware of. If you use a credit card or debit card to pay the bill, the restaurant passes along the processing fee to the customer in the form of a 4% service fee. I'm not a fan of this practice in general, but considering that processing fees range from 1.5% to 3.5%, this seems excessive. Also, the suggested tip at the bottom of the bill is based on the total (taxes and fees included), rather than the subtotal (the cost of food and drinks before taxes and fees). Last time I checked, tax is not a service.
The service and presentation was great! Our server was super helpful and nice all night. The appetizers were delicious. However, each entree dish was unfortunately quite over cooked and almost too salty to eat. I had the duck, my father ordered the pork chop, and we had two fillets. All were very overcooked. My duck was at times SO salty I could hardly eat it. My fathers cream of spinach was too salty to eat. I don’t leave reviews often, but I felt this needed to be brought to the restaurant’s attention, especially for the “fine dining” experience they regard themselves for and the prices.
First, the food was great. The spicy seafood medley pasta was great. Service was not up to the $100+ per person price. Show up 5 minutes prior to reservation and we are told to go to the bar or wait outside and someone would get us. Nobody came for us. We got in and drinks went dry and we're seated right at the server station entrance without asking us if it was ok....there were empty tables available. Desserts were so so.
What a disappointment. We had a reservation for 5:30 on Friday night and we were promptly seated. The atmosphere is nice but the noise level went up significantly as more people were seated. I was expecting to see some references to FDR eating there but didn't see any. The waiter (Tommy) was prompt but when we started to order our main course he had to check with the kitchen and he came back and told that they were out of scallops (at 6:00 and they opened at 5:00). Four dishes on the menu immediately became unavailable. The French onion soup was very good but was quite peppery Our entrees were okay but nothing special. The ravioli was a little to al dente for my taste. The appetizers and entrees are definitely over priced for what you get. I ordered the 20 year Port but the waiter came back and indicated that they were out of it. He offered a 10 year Port. My partner's Irish Coffee came without whipped cream but it was nice. We were expecting more.

I wish my brain could figure out what they are trying to do here. This place used to be great but now? No. Most appetizers are just smaller portions of some kind of entree from a limited menu at best. Our waitress was very nice. It is just that many much much cheaper restaurants in the area are doing the same thing but better. It is sad, I have eaten here for many many years, and I understand the rebuild process after destruction, but $60 dollar entrees is not a fair price for the experience or the food anymore at this location. Wish it was different. Crab cakes were almost frozen in the middle, sauces were on everything and very similar from dish to dish, beef was gristly and overly fat, sides were ok. I will, of course, try again in a year or so with hopes of a great experience from years ago.
The server was awesome!! Appetizer medallions were overcooked, risotto was absolutely disgusting!! They used too much of a season that isn't supposed to be used that much. The steak was dry and overcooked. Definitely not worth the high price. There should be no excuse for poor cooking now days with the internet and YouTube available.
Had reservations for months for an anniversary and was called the day of the my anniversary and told that they won't be open...great time to tell me...i guess it was "passed season" but i wouldn't allow someone to make a reservation for a day they know they are closed..booo!!!
Ordered spicy seafood pasta, lobster claw was small and dry, dish was just ok. My wife ordered pasta w veggies, no oil no garlic no sauce and barely any veggies, very disappointed. Drinks were good.
Where do I begin? Other than the venue is interesting and the vintage of the location is inspiring, this was one of the worst dining experiences in our lives. We booked our reservations early as we were out for our 34th anniversary. Once we arrived they seated us towards the back, in what we first thought "may" be a quiet and romantic corner. This soon became a nightmare. The table adjacent us, filled with Ivy League big mouths, were rudely loud and obnoxious the whole time we were there. Overtly loud and fake belly laughing and over talking everyone else in the dining room. We could barely hear each other at our table. No one from the staff asked them to tone it down even though the whole restaurant was affected. Now to the meal. Thankfully they had one of our favorite wines on their menu, this was the only redeeming part of our evening. We ordered appetizers consisting of Coconut shrimp ($26.00) and "Jumbo" sea scallops ($34.00). Our main courses were Chicken and Shrimp Involtini ($42.00) and Seared scallops and shrimp ($54.00). The coconut shrimp were overcooked and dry, the dip they came with was slightly redeeming. The "Jumbo" sea scallops were lightly bigger than a bay scallop, most definitely not Jumbo and the sauce they came with was tasteless and non-complimentary. Putting these 3 scallops in this huge plate was even a bigger embarrassment. For the chicken dish, the chicken was OK, the asparagus was boring and the accompanying "bread square" was tough and overcooked. The seared scallop and shrimp dish came with a huge helping of Fettucini, which was glued together with far too much cheese, tasteless alfredo and was not hot, warm at very best. The scallops and shrimp were cooked OK, but very little taste. Regarding the position of our table and in addition to being seated next to overtly rude and obnoxious diners, the door next to us is the door to the washrooms, which are located outside. During our seating time we were constantly disturbed by people coming and going along with the fact that the door closer is not a commercial grade unit and the door closed each time with a very loud bang. And then the proverbial icing on the cake, when we came time to pay our bill, the receipt shows that we need to pay a $9.42 fee to use our credit card. This whole experience, for two people, for $264.89, before tip? We eat all over the continent at fine dining establishments and understand quality food, service, ambiance and delivery along with value for your hard earned dollars. You aren't meeting the bar you have already set too high. Sidebar, our server was excellent, however we couldn't see fit to tip our usual generous amount, based upon the fails on the meal and environment.
To consider this restaurant a fine dining experience is embarrassing. If you are someone who doesn’t know how to cook or has never been to a restaurant then I could understand thinking that it’s great. The place is nice and cozy inside and the server was friendly. We were there for the $95/ person NYE menu with a table of 6. With 6 people we tried every option on the menu. The shrimp bisque and black eyed pea soup were great and made us think the rest of the meal would be too. The biggest offense was definitely bagged frozen vegetables and what looked like a chewed up and spit out thin sliced prime rib. 0/10 on presentation. The Cornish hen entree did not come out hot. The sea bass was fine but nothing special. The entire menu seemed to lack any identity on what flavors pair well together. And finally, the desserts tasted like something you’d buy off a Walmart bakery clearance rack. It would have been nice to skip a dessert and have a salad offering at the beginning. But whoever prepared this menu clearly doesn’t eat vegetables due to the abomination and disfigurement of the alleged French style green beans. We will never be back to this restaurant considering the many other delightful culinary experience options on the island. Save your money and go to Tortugas and The Pheonix for perfectly prepared, balanced, thoughtful and flavorful meals.
We were really glad to have been able to make it here for our last night in town after reading the reviews and the menu. Arrived for our reservation and were sat at a table under a vent that was leaking all over- onto our table, into our drinking water and all over my boyfriend. The server said she would move us which was great then reported back that she could not. Our appetizer was great, and so was the lamb. The fish special was so dry- so I asked for sauce to make it palatable. Which I was charged an additional price for. To me, if the food isn't good, the sauce it required to make it edible should have been on the house. Really I should have sent my whole meal back, but I don't like doing that. The server described the dessert that we ordered to go and then reported back that it was no longer available. Honestly one disappointment after another for a place that we had such high expectations of. Clearly our patronage did not matter to this restaurant as no one said a word, or offered an apology for the leaking water we sat under, the dry food or unavailable dessert that was talked up. Request a window seat. And order the lamb.
The atmosphere Roosevelts creates meets its impression and price point. Unfortunately that’a the only thing that matches the price point. The food is cooked well by a talented team that clearly knows what they are doing. The menu has variety and the specials were good. Unfortunately, knowing how to cook and executing it well is about the bare minimum when you’ve got probably an $80-$100 check average. Some of the creative decisions simply don’t make sense. We bought the bread app for $12 that was just some focaccia with a metric ton of shaved parm on top and 1 dollop of balsamic glaze. Reloook those proportions on this rather dry bread please. Also consider serving with EVVO instead of butter. The flavors were combative nor complimentary. My wife’s steak was fine but she commented that her risotto was just so so and she thought the vegetable medley was frozen which I really hope was not true. The biggest issue that I can’t get over even days after this dining experience was the Dijon and herb Crusted lamb for $62. I got it with overcooked asparagus (but that’s okay small fluke in other wise well technically executed dinner) and the Savoyarde potatoes. On the potatoes I would not be as proud of that side as Roosevelts seems to be I found it a bit tasteless. On the lamb, it was cooked exactly as I ordered it so again good technical execution but they called it a herb and Dijon crusted rack and there might have been a herb or 2 on there but not “crusted” and the most egregious experience of the whole night - a huge slather of Dijon mustard across my lamb like a $62 hot dog. I don’t know where the teams head is at, they clearly possess the technical knowledge and ability to cook at the level the restaurant puts forth, but the creative decisions put into the menu are, bluntly, bad. You guys are better than this.
Food is absolutely terrible, and to add insult to injury the price they charge you is crazy. The only reason for two star is because of the service. Service was excellent, along with presentation. Please spend you time and money elsewhere.

Disappointing experience. The menu prices are higher than what is listed on the website. Apparently the website has not been updated in a while. Good wine selection, although the first bottle we selected was not that great. The salads were okay, but nothing special. I ordered the chicken and shrimp involtini. The chicken was tough and tasteless. The wild rice side tasted like it was saturated in vinegar. Lastly, the key limon pie dessert--$15.00--was served in a small pudding dish and had apparently been sitting in the refrigerator for several days. What we had was mediocre casual dining food at fine dining prices. This is a one and done for us. Recommend a hard pass on Roosevelt's.

the worst service at a “fine dining” restaurant i have ever encountered. It was astonishing. Don’t waste your time or money.
IF YOU ARE FROM OUT OF TOWN: do not listen to these reviews. For big-city visitors (I’m from houston) the quality of the food does not match the price. The food was absolutely awful. We enjoyed the appetizers and the meal started out promising. However, the meal did not meet expectations. I ordered the pan fried flounder and frozen fish sticks were more flavorful. The pasta was over cooked and soggy, as well as flavorless. The red snapper was flavorless and mushy as well. We "caught them at an off time" and they did not have a catch of the day nor did they have lobster. They substituted scallops for the lobster in the spicy seafood pasta without the knowledge of the orderer. It was insanely expensive for 3 scallops and 3 shrimp. $39. The filet was a terrible cut of meat; we ordered a 10oz filet and it came with 2 ugly cuts of meat instead of one nice steak. The 12 oz ribeye was also a terrible cut of meat priced at $50. They charged my cousin (11) $12 for a side of plain pasta and $12 for a disgusting piece of chicken, despite the “out of date” menu saying $8. They also told us they had a full bar, when in reality there were maybe 8 bottles of liquor and no menu. The waiters also pointed and laughed at our table while we were waiting on our checks to return. One of the hosts at the front went into the kitchen and hit a vape in plain view of the diners.
Very overpriced. The trio appetizer was one oyster, one shrimp, and one crab cake. $21 A shiner and a glass of house rose was $21 The caesar salads that were slyly sold to us without being part of the meal, had about 6 pieces of romaine, 2 croutons, about a tablespoon of dressing, and a paltry amount of parmesan, was $12 each ($24) The mains, parmesan crusted flounder and spicy seafood medley, seemed like they were both boxed dry pasta. Flounder was 3/4 breading, maybe a 1/8lbs of meat with the rest breading. Shrimp was not even as fresh as the sports bar down the road. $67 Both mains needed ALOT of salt and pepper, only good part about this restaurant was the apps... for this kind of money i could go to texas de Brazil and would have been happier with the results. Avoid at all costs.
Just left this place after eating breakfast. Had dinner here about a month ago. Dinner was good. Breakfast not so much. My breakfast potatoes were black. Not burned, but black from reheating. My wife ordered an eggs Benedict. One egg and English muffin $16.00. They served it with a side of reheated corn from last night's dinner run. Do not eat breakfast here. I used to work in resturants this was not a fresh cooked meal. Even the bacon was reheated. I would have complained but if you will serve food of this quality to paying customers complaints are not a concern.
The food was awful. So salty, it was unedible. Very expensive. The service was good. I wonder if they think they get 1 time visitors to the island and don't care about repeat business? The clam chowder had more potato than clams. They said it had bacon on top and did not serve with that. 2 out of 3 meals were salty. The dressing on the wedge salad was soooo spicy it was crazy.
Our family enjoys the fine dining experience and trying different high-end restaurants, and sadly, the quality of this food and the atmosphere does not meet the standards of fine dining. Our party of five arrived and the hostess was not kind, rather haughty, showed us the table right next to the door and when we said "no thank you" she was not gracious, rather acted "put out" and made us feel that way. Our server was excellent- unfortunately the food was not at all. Pork chop dry and hard, the fish a long slab of greasy flavorless fried moosh, pasta overly spiced to the point of inediblilty, fried shrimp small and dry and flavorless, and the duck chewy and... well we have had better at Chinese take-out places.... and each plate had a strange potato side when there was already another starch making the plate such a "hodgepodge". No bread or simple appetizer is brought complementarily like other nice resaurants... in this case it will cost you $12... for bread. Overall the prices are exhorbitant for food that was at the level of a "ma and pa" country kitchen restaurant. And then the best part... the bill... when it arrives be ready for the "real" stomachache... expect $160-$200 for a couple. All while you dined inside an atmosphere that looks like a barbecue hall or a sandwich shop on the beach... and you leave feeling like you wasted an evening and hard-earned money. I was certainly embarrassed that we didn't "screen" this place before we invited our neighbor friends to join us-- they were even more unhappy than us with the food and the price. This establishment really needs to go to the cities and try some true fine dining and then model after that. Right now they are just trying to fit a round peg in a square hole and it is not working and leaves people with a "bad taste in their mouth."
I called and made a reservations months in advance for my birthday weekend getaway that we booked to Port Aransas. We arrived and I couldn’t remember if I made the reservation for 7 or 7:30 so I called the night before our reservation. Turns out they were closed on Saturday for a wedding party and if I had not called out dinner plans could have been shot as finer dining in the Port Aransas area is scarce. We ended up at Venetian Hot Plate and we were not disappointed! Be sure to call and see if they remember you exist before you dine here. ✌🏼
Wow, totally wish I would have read the reviews on here before I tried Roosevelt's. They require reservations but when you call ahead to reserve a table they just lose your reservation? Also the staff is straight up mean and rude. The restaurant itself is teeny tiny and does not give that formal dining feeling one would expect for the meal prices. For someone wanting to have a nice dinner the mean staff, hospital grade overhead lighting, and communal dining tables do not cut it at all. At the very least offer a kind and welcoming demeanor to customers. Part of upscale dining is having the emotional intelligence to treat your paying customers kindly and graciously.
Went with a party of 9 celebrating a birthday, food was 5/10, waiter service was pretty good. General manager ended up kicking us out not even 2 minutes after finishing dessert while still drinking our wine bottles. We also noticed the general manager as she walked around our table trying to peak at how much we had to pay in the end and laughing about it. We spent over a grand to be disrespected and kicked out while still enjoying our drinks.
This may be the absolute worst restaurant experience ive ever had. We received horrible service with no plates served with appetizers. Then the ice melted out of our drinks. We then asked the manager what was going on and his attitude was very indifferent. We then asked to tab out and leave and he responded by saying "I'm gonna have to ask yall to leave" what a horrible place.
Not a great experience. We went for breakfast because the place around the corner had a 90-minute wait. We were seated immediately (literally nobody else in the place). Three other tables came in right after us. They all ate and left before we even got our food. Order was then incorrect and we were over-billed by one entree. The service was so bad that we just let it go so that we could get out of there after our 2-hour stay. I guess I know why there's no line when every other place is slammed in Port A.
We came here for my best friends bachelorette. We were SUPER excited to come, we saw the food online and were immediately thrilled to try. We had two people in our party waiting for us as we were walking in… a lot of people hadn’t seen each other for years !!!!! Before we even sat down to grab our seats, this horrible host LITERALLY came to us and said… be quiet! She made the rest of the night horrible for us… another group of man came in and were “loud” and she did not act that way with them. She proceeded to act like a horrible lady the whole night. Her name is Ms Joy. I will Absolutely never come here because OF HER.
Unfortunate experience, food was great, manager was great and helpful. We came because we had great black jack oysters in Dallas and rejoiced when we found out this was the only place in Port A that carried them. Towards the end of the experience our friend (paying for the bill) told the server we’d add a 30% tip. When our server Lauren returned she said “that’s with the 30% tip added you just need to sign” which to me was a little odd because being in the service industry myself I’ve never been allowed to write a service tip myself and always told to allow the customer to write their own. Her mentioning that made me curious and in turn I asked to look at the receipt, which included way more than a 30% tip on the original tab. I told my table and we let her know it was over the 30 we told her and she immediately got defensive saying we said 35%, I let her know it just was not ok to try to take advantage of the situation and she just tried telling us to leave and that we could just go. Money is not the problem so we signed the check, finished our glasses of wine and head out. I absolutely do not appreciate us already being generous and light hearted and trying to be taken advantage of. it’s so unfortunate to have had such a great experience up until the end and Lauren getting so defensive about a tip she wrote on the check and telling us to get out. A simple “hey I was wrong I’m sorry” would’ve done. Truly sad to have to write this but to not even get an apology or admittance to wrong and her being hostile is just not okay. From my understanding in the service industry, if I’d ever write a tip for a patron that’d be grounds for termination. L Lauren. Attached is a picture of our receipt and the tip she wrote on there herself. Google will not allow a picture but the original total was 179.26, Lauren added a tip of $65. Any dumb person would know that’s a 30% tip of an over $200 bill :))
