ADORABLE place. Really nice food. Literally the best fries I have ever had.very friendly staff, super cute atmosphere
Ultra fresh, homemade food for our small town feel. Hearty, real veggie burgers, fresh chicken, crisp salads, delicious beef patties & handmade potato chips, all fresh daily, so something for everyone. Best for brunch, lunch or lighter dinner fare. Joann and Sam have provided farm-to-table in Rhinebeck for over 10 years. So glad to have them!
Our first visit. We plan to return. This is a small, take-out, or eat outside place. An older ex-pat NYC couple runs the place. Just a small area inside to place your order and pay, (one, or was it two pushed together?, table inside with reserved sign on it. ). It wasn't quick, but each dish 'feels like" it realy was prepared for you. Generous delicious servings. Vegetarian options. The chicken-parm sandwich could have used 3 buns to support it, instead of the one, the serving was so large. (Half was taken home for later.) Home-made soups and deserts tempt from the glass-fronted refrigerator case. My husband got the carrot cake. No photos. He devoured it too quickly pronouncing it 'the best."
Small but quaint spot perfect for a laid back, casual date night. The food was wonderful. I highly recommend the veggie burger-super yummy and filling! We will definitely be visiting again soon!
Quirky, friendly owner and absolutely delicious (grass-fed) burgers and hand-cut fries (among other things - the chicken salad and egg sandwiches were also excellent). We really enjoyed eating here, we've been twice and would definitely go back next time we're in town.
I love this little joint and love Joann’s book. You Laugh, Smile, Giggle, grin all before you walk through the damn door! Once in side oboy! (Oy Vey) good hearty (comfort) food! Ya gotta go! Lora
Amazing! Staff was very friendly and inviting! I got the veggie burger and it was incredible, filled with lots of spinach and very thick and tasty. My friends got beef burgers and thought they were delicious as well.
What a find! Great food, great service, and I will return. I had the Challah French Toast and it was the best I have ever had. Well worth the trip from Poughkeepsie! I also had the Expresso Brownie, that was so rich I cut it into smaller pieces. I took one of the veggie burgers to go.
Adorable, delicious, friendly and REAL! Rice krispie treats are legendary, specials are delicious, and the owner who waited on us was a delight. We were just passing through, but will find a way to come here again.
When it comes to great high-quality comfort food and friendly service, your search has ended. With over 35 years of NYC restaurant experience, Sam & Joann Cohen bring nothing short of excellence to Rhinebeck, NY. My personal favorites are the chicken salad, corned beef sandwich (real NYC style), amazing burgers & fries and you can't complete the experience without an award-winning cookie or cake. Drop in to try something or get it to go. This cafe will quickly become one of your favorites in the Hudson Valley. Enjoy!
The best veggie burger I have ever tasted. Had another one today, 5-1-22. Same best veggie burger ever. And my daughter had a terrific burger and red velvet cake.
Insulin is served with every desert. Coffee is as delicious as the owner will insist it is. Cozy little spot. Would love to go back and try a burger there. They look really good.
Food and service was great. Comfortable seating outside. First time at your restaurant with our, out of town friends who were looking for a nice vegetarian choice menue. We were not disappointed. Thank you for a great first time experence.
My absolute favorite little cafe. Consistently delicious food. Have to try their veggie burger and cix salad sandwich. The fries are yummy and the cookies are enormous. This is seriously a real treat. Great for families too because you can sit outside. Sam and Maryanne are the nicest people too. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.
Phenomenal place. This is a place you come to feel at home and loved. As the saying goes: “ They don’t make ‘em like that anymore!” The food is delicious and made with love. Excellent customer service. Kind hospitality.
Stopped in with family because ,though we had a table reserved at Cinnamon we couldn't wait for our 7:30 reservation. And thank goodness-we're Blown away!! Our kid can be a fussy eater despite our travels, but he sat down and ate everything - and for him - that's impressive. My wife is a great cook so she's hard to please- but she loved the place and the food. I'm easier to please, but I'm tired of tasteless overpriced food....This couldn't have been further from that- IT was Delicious!!!!!!! Great service too. Fun conversation with the owners: Very kind genuine people. We frequent Rhinebeck & this place might just become a daily stop when we're in town. Seriously the best!
Great little place!! Owners are super friendly, food is all made fresh and the prices are definitely on par for the quality of the food! It was the best French toast I have ever had! Burgers are great both beef and veggie. You won't be disappointed!
What a hidden gem. This place is so cute and the food is amazing!!!
Great little roadside eatery. Ordering is a tad interesting, place order inside at counter, then wait outside for the food to be brought to you. Overall, food was delicious and oversized, highly recommend.
Whenever we drove to Rhinebeck I wondered what this little restaurant was all about. I finally looked it up and went with my family. I could not believe how delicious the food was here. We ordered the veggie burger, the chicken salad sandwich and the beef lasagna. We also took home giant cookies and an entire chocolate mousse cake. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend it and we will be returning.
OMG- We will always make a point of eating here NOW that we know about this place! The three of us ( kiddo included ) ate every single thing on our plates. And I plan to take to take at least 6, maybe even 10 veggie burgers ...home with us. It’s the best straightforward food I’ve ever had. My hubby had the grilled chicken sandwich, our son- the grass fed burger...and I the veggie burger. All with homemade fries. It’s quaint interior and delightful owners ROCK! Great staff too. I can’t say anything negative and certainly not enough positive without boring everyone to death. Absolutely FANTASTIC and definitely a little magical. Don’t hesitate. STOP and eat or call and pick up!
Really a fantastic and friendly place. It is very unassuming buy cozy and the food is very enjoyable. The meat used in the burgers is excellent and I'd strongly suggest going medium rare as the flavor is very good. The chicken parmesan is also delicious. The portion size is intense and the roll that it is placed on makes the whole ordeal quite comical(yet awesome). The couple that run it are also very kind and funny. The gentleman who takes orders is very quick witted. Everything about this place is great.
Stopped at this adorable place yesterday when we brought my sister down for an appointment with the doctor next door. I cannot say enough good things about this PHENOMENAL place. The food is all made fresh to order and it’s made from the most amazingly fresh, top quality products. We had both lunch before the doctors appointment and dinner after the appointment. The owners are such a sweet and sincerely caring couple who went out of their way to make our stops a first-rate experience. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. We live in Binghamton NY which is three hours away - we are coming back to the doctor in a month for a follow up appointment and we cannot wait to eat at The Match Stick again. We bought two different types of brownies and cookies to take home and we can’t stop raving about them as well as our sandwiches, home made potato chips, and homemade French fries! Run, don’t walk to this INCREDIBLY delicious Gem of a restaurant!
Great find on our way back home from Columbia county. The sign states comfort food and thats exactly what you get. The fried chicken was delicious and the wife raved about the cheesecake. The owner or who I believe to be made us feel like regulars.
Best Reuben Sandwich ever, bar none. Try the local grassfed burger too, its game changing! With a side of house-made French fries? Yes, please! Touch on the expensive side, but it's worth it for the incredibly nice people and amazing food! I love the outdoor seating area on a beautiful day.
Every dish served at the Matchbox Cafe is amazing every type of sandwich is the best I've ever had and my absolute favorite is their veggie burger which you will love even if you are not vegan. Plus as an added bonus the owners Sam and Joanne are so wonderful and kind they make every guest feel important.
The best place to eat in Rhinebeck, and probably any other town in fifty miles. Their food is all amazing and made from scratch. From their regular menu, as well as the specials, all of their entrees are spectacular and nothing will disappoint you. The quality and selection of baked goods is beyond reproach. Their cupcakes, cookies, and other offerings are phenomenal. Be prepared to leave with a big box of your favorite dessert selections. The atmosphere is cozy and the owners are lovely.
We each had one of the best burgers ever, then we took home 2 of their amazing chicken pot pies. They are so nice and the food is so good. I can't wait to go back!
My husband and I stopped by the Matchbox Cafe today while out on a motorcycle ride. I was so impressed not only did I have the best veggie burger ever but the onwer was One of the nicest people I've met in a very long time. Definitely a big thumbs up . We will be going back .
This place has the best cookies..HANDS DOWN! I always make it a point to stop here when I am traveling by and their cookies never disappoint. I always buy more than one. I also ate food here for the first time this past summer and it was quite delicious. The seating is very very limited but we got lucky and got a table. I highly recommend this place. The owner is very nice.
A great quaint little eatery to visit just outside the Rhinbeck main areas. Great food great company. My steak was fresh, my salad was to die for, the chicken salad sandwich was fresh as could be. Like the chicken was just butchered and shucked. Portions are great as well as baked goods. Fresh iced tea on a hot summer day.
Adorable little cafe, the food was amazing, great portion sizes, very kind staff. Also the cupcakes were delicious.
This is a charming little spot by the side of the road with an incredibly friendly man behind the counter and good comfort food. Not a lot of room inside so you will most likely be eating outside in the patio (plenty of tables and chairs). They also have pies, cheesecake, and big cookies
Staying in town and walked here from our hotel 15 min walk down the road. Highly recommend! Incredible burger and fresh thick cut fries. Awesome people running the place too.
I am a big fan of hamburgers. So that makes me a big fan of this special place. I have mostly only had hamburgers with cheese and desserts here. We don’t live nearby so stop in occasionally. In nice weather, there is a lovely garden patio and we we sit outside. Usually now we take out. Tons of folks love this place. The mom and pop owners are very cordial and accommodating. I usually order medium cooked. These burgers are so fresh and quality that I enjoy them medium to rare. They are priced very fairly. I pay more for less at commercial places. I would rather travel an extra 10minutes and go here. There are many other dishes that are tantalizing. They also have vege burgers. I have yet to buy their pot pies. But although pricy, I’m sure they are worth every bit. They look great. I will take one home as well soon. I’m just hooked on the burgers of my dreams. Now, the desserts are the real deal. High end bakery grade. I have not tasted most of them, but what I have are way above the usual. I would definitely check out their menu and trust that it’s all top notch. Giant container of homemade chicken soup is next on my list. The only chicken soup that I would currently buy. It’s got to be like mom’s from what I’ve heard.
Matchbox is a true local gem. The moment you walk in, you're enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that showcases the best of the community's spirit. The food is outstanding, with each dish crafted from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that burst with flavor. The owners' dedication to celebrating local culture is evident in every detail, from the art on the walls to the events they host. If you haven't experienced Matchbox yet, make it a priority. It's where delicious food and local charm come together beautifully.
I defy you to find a better burger. But everything they make is also great. The service is entertaining and professional at the same time. I love this place. Do not miss their burger. Even if you've already eaten somewhere else and you're about to leave Rhinebeck, just stop in and try this burger. You won't regret it.
Best veggie burger I've ever had and the fries are incredible as well! Wish I grabbed some chicken soup while I was there. The owner was so friendly and had great energy. He gave us a few recommendations for our trip and both were amazing!
I passed this tiny place a bunch of times but neglected to stop in. Big mistake! This place is great! Rustic and quaint on the outside. Cozy and cute on the inside. There's three tables and a counter seating a dozen or so people. There's plenty of seating outside on a nice day. The food is delicious and cooked fresh. Not a big fan of veggie burgers (due to all the bad ingredients) but the veggie burger here is cooked fresh while you wait actually tastes like vegetables. Delicious! The fries are also made fresh and just as tasty. Staff is very friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Highly rated. Will return again and again.
What an adorable jewel of a roadside cafe. Small space but there are outdoor tables and there is takeout available. I had the veggie burger, homemade deliciousness with homemade fries Delish!! The baked goods look amazing, I bought a peanut butter chocolate cookie for the ride home. Be sure to stop here for a meal, just outside Rhinebeck.
Everything I've ordered here, mostly breakfast along with a couple of burgers has been perfect. The hand cut fries are the best I've ever had
Excellent burgers. Honestly, one of the best I've ever had. Just a perfectly done burger. We came to the region for a wedding but would definitely go back for the food!
Small precious cottage on the side of the road. Maybe 4-5 tables inside but it’s a homey adorable little space. Our interaction was with a sweet man at the counter. Sure it’s $21 for a veggie burger - but it’s homemade, delicious, and supporting a small local business. We ate outside and although the outdoor seating is right next to a semi busy 2 lane road, we aren’t fussy and we were just grateful for the summer weather in April, sweet service, and great food! My bf has the lasagna and I had the veggie burger with homemade steak fries. We took two cookies to go and omgoodness how delicious. Would come back for sure.
Sam and Joann Cohen have created an incredible restaurant in Dutchess County New York. You walk in from the cold and you feel like you are home. You can get anything from your Nana's chicken soup to chicken parmigiana. If you like people, you will love Sam and Joann.
Food was amazingly delicious. I had the best shrimp sandwich I've ever had and a salad with homemade mustard vinaigrette. Sounds so weird to hear that but the dressing is the bomb. I ordered a slice of chocolate mousse dessert to take home as after dinner, I was too full to eat dessert there. That wound up being amazing as well. Food is slightly pricey but worth every penny. They even have a lot of vegetarian choices on their menu as well.
One of my favorite places for the last decade. Wonderful comfort food, everything they do is truly delicious. Love the veggie burger, love the cookies, love the lasagna to take home and heat up. I always feel nourished and taken care of when I pick up food from here. I’ve asked Sam to put my order in a little box so I can take it straight to the riverside park and eat it outside. Matchbox is a homey staple of Rhinebeck I am so grateful for! ❤️
Absolutely amazing! Great food! Great service! I'm going back again for sure.
hidden little gem!!!! My husband's been hearing about their hamburgers how outstanding they are!!! Well we finally stopped by Is hamburger was absolutely amazing everything was top notch quality beef I ordered BLT highly recommend the best I've ever had!!!! Very pleasant experience Owners were very personable and welcoming Would highly recommend!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been going to The Matchbox Cafe for a few years now, ever since they moved here, and I’ve loved it every time. The food is amazing—fresh, comforting, and clearly made with care. Everything people say about this place is true. The burgers really are some of the best around, cooked just right and full of flavor, and I completely understand why so many people rave about the veggie burger as well. The fries are delicious, and the menu has a great variety without feeling overwhelming. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with that home-style, local feel that keeps people coming back. It’s a place that truly lives up to its reputation. Consistently excellent food and a place I’m always happy to return to. Highly recommend.
Ok so this establishment is SO good I feel compelled to get a wee bit wordy here. My wife had the chicken pot pie, usually only a take home/away item, but they were cooking them. She loved it. I had two bites and it was amazing. My daughter had a salad which she loved and it looked amazing. My son and I both had burgers. His was a cheeseburger with American cheese and I took mine with Blue Cheese. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had. He enjoyed his as well. The fries are 5 stars. The food is amazing and the owners are friendly and kind. We will be going back.
I’ve been coming here for years. This place has some of the best sandwiches and burgers in the Hudson valley. It’s a shame that the owners are so cold otherwise I would come here more often. The woman owner is extremely condescending and probably shouldn’t be in a customer facing position. I feel bad for her. I get anxiety just calling to place an Order. Today I came to pick up my food and asked for an extra container since I was giving a cupcake to someone and she boxed them together. The woman owner wouldn’t give me one- just offered something that wouldn’t transport it appropriately. The prices here are at a premium and the food is worth it but the rude service keeps me away.
Delicious food! Friendly welcoming people/owners! Place is tiny but there is plenty of outdoor seating.
An absolute GEM! This is simple food done exceptionally well. Every single bite we had was insanely delicious and we may just plan a drive around visiting this terrific little cafe. Don’t sleep on this amazing experience!
We have been trying to visit this place for the past 3 years and the wait was worth it. It’s a small family-run cafe and the owner was really sweet. We tried their matchbox veggie farm burger which was great and their vegetarian lasagna which was outstanding. Portion size was huge for lasagna since it came with 6 slices of garlic bread. We were sitting near the parking since our daughter was sleeping in the car and the owner came to give the food to the parking. The view from the parking was so nice - there was some cool breeze and the trees on the farm in front of us were moving.
We found this place on a whim and what a great find! The food was great and the owner and chef were fabulous! We aren’t from the area but if we pass through again we will be sure to stop in! We ordered the chicken sandwich, French toast, and cookies (sugar and kitchen sink). Highly recommend!!!
Growing up, “matchbox” was a term for a little, cozy home, and that’s exactly the feeling this eatery gave us. While driving through Upstate on a scenic route, ChatGPT recommended this spot (among others) for lunch, and we’re so glad we chose it. From the moment we walked in, the staff behind the counter (possibly the owner) was incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly, making us feel at home. The food was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The french fries were fresh and crispy, and since everything was cooked to order, there was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. He also kindly provided us with trays so we could enjoy our meal in the car during our drive. Overall, I’d rate this place a 10/10 and highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in Rhinebeck!
My husband and I come to Rhinebeck quite often and finally stopped to eat at this place. Can’t express enough how good the food is, the owners are such nice people- we had the pleasure to have a little chat with them, and we even met a local couple who we ended up having a great conversation with! An amazing experience from start to end. Do yourself a favor any visiting the Cafe 🩷
As soon as you pull up to this quaint little spot, you know it’s going to be good. Whether you were tipped off by the usually packed parking lot, or the incredible meaty smell emanating from the most adorable cottage, you’re probably going to start salivating by the time you reach the door. Inside is just as you’d expect - simple, yet filled with comforting local goodies in a warm and rustic setting. Outside there are several different choices for seating with flowers and shrubs lining the perimeter for some privacy. Now... the food. This was by far the freshest beef I’ve ever tasted, seasoned and cooked to perfection, with toppings so crisp I was left pinching myself and wondering if it was all real. You may need a few visits to figure out a plan of attack because it’s a messy one, but oh so worth it. My only complaint is that I didn’t take a second one to go. I can’t come back here fast enough!
What a sleeper/knock it out of the park pleasure this place is. Just south of Rhinebeck on rt 9. Tiny, and I mean minuscule. Comfort food on a paper plate,as their slogan goes. Nothing fancy, nor extravagant, yet good flavor, adequate portions with really friendly service and attention. Good food, good desserts, good deal.
Great food, tiny place outside seating . Food was excellent a bit pricey
Good food, a little pricey. Decent outdoor section, and some indoor seating. Not a fan of.there parking lot, it's small, rutty, and right on 9. Staff is super friendly, and I'm never disappointed with the food.
First time here. Love this eclectic place. Introduced ourselves to Sam Cohen the owner. Could be my new BFF. Took our order Burgers, fries and fried chicken(could not resist). The burgers and fries were the best. Fried chicken was delishes but I don't know if Sam makes it. But it was crisp juicy and flavorful....I'll be a regular
Although the building seemed like it fell out of the sky and was plopped at a location in the middle of nowhere; (I almost drove past the site 😄), really small in general, lacked space between tables, and circulation of cool air, which the owner apologized for (was pleasant), the atmosphere was not uncomfortable enough to not enjoy eating in the cafe. I liked my experience. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Mozzarella; The Sandwhich was big the chicken was juicy. I heard about their award winning cookies the taste was not a disappointment. The cookie was yummy and thick. My friend also enjoyed her meal.
This little spot right off the road has excellent lunch and 2 breakfast options. As everyone will say, there is a mechanic shop right behind it, which is loud and ugly. I guess they could plant some arborvitae to hide it. BUT, we had breakfast and the french toast was the best I ever had. My husband had an egg, bacon and cheese. He said the bacon was just a tad too crispy but was very good anyway. It's BYOB, so we brought bellni's. They have 2 small tables inside and several small tables outside. Order at the counter and they will bring it to you.
Literally matchbox size ! Good food nice, people not a lot of space to hang out inside to grab a dish and eat out !
Just happened to find this place on line yesterday. Cute little place a few minutes outside the town of Rheinbeck. My friend had the grilled cheese (“The best I’ve ever had” and I had the BLT which was outstanding. Beware though. After we were finished eating I picked up our paper plates and put them on the counter. The owner in a not very friendly tone said “Don’t put those plates on my Counter”. We were a little taken back my that comment. That said the sandwiches were delicious
Great little cafe. Super cozy inside, nice little outdoor area eating area as well (all though there is some traffic noise) The meatloaf sandwich was delicious and quite the portion. Definitely worth a try. I also got a peanut butter chocolate cookie to go which was gigantic and quite dense. That was a nice treat. The staff were super friendly and helpful, clearly happy to be there.
This was a lovely , little local place. The owners work there every day and were a pleasure to talk to. It is a little expensive but the food quality is good. It was small but there was indoor and outdoor seating. It is decorated rustically and was very homey, warm and inviting. The brownie that we got for a snack was amazing!
I give it 5 stars for charm, owner friendliness and effort. I give it 1 star for value for the dollar. Lunch for two (a burger and sandwich) cost almost $40.. We could have had a steak dinner for two for less than that. While the burger and sandwich were good (I'd rate them slightly above average) the cost in no way justifies ever going back. We didn't have a cookie... there was no money left....
Just ok. Pretty expensive prices to eat decent food with paper plates and plastic cutlery. Nice outdoor space, but right next to a busy road. I had to put salt on my potato chips because they were so bland.
It is a very cute place, spur of moment side of road, and great reviews nailed the decision. The gentleman who served us was very nice, my son's sugar cookie very good. BUT $19 for an avocado BLT where the bacon was overcooked and tasted like cardboard? I had one bite and couldn't eat any more. And even if the bacon was perfect that is an insane price and if I saw the price before I ordered, no way... $8.50 for a generic hot dog, comparable to dairy queen? I'm guessing from the other rave reviews there is good food to be had here.. but we didn't get any.. And what all the reviews say- way too expensive. Avoid.
Stopped in here for a 3rd visit. The 2 prior visits were great,, the 3rd not so much. We had finished wall eating but still finishing out our coffee/tea when a group of 5 filtered in. The owner came over and told us they needed the table…I have never had that happen anywhere before! I was taken aback to say the least. My money will be spent elsewhere moving forward.
Vegan burger, tasty to eat, yes, I'm grateful for the option. However, No Protein in the burger, only carbs and fat. It's not a coherent vegan meal! It does not make sense. Fries were good, with extra ketchup. Service was good. Proprietor is a very nice man, had a stimulating & interesting conversation. Ambiance is interesting, in a good human way, see the pictures. Not just standard plastic, like the corporate franchises. Nice comfort food, for those who dine on meat, and cookies.
While the treats we bought were tasty, it's an expensive place when compared with other bakeries and shops - Kingston, Red Hook, and Hyde Park all have great bakeries without the high prices. In addition, the female cashier was incredibly rude to us - hopefully that wasn't the owner. Will not be returning.
Low ratings for overpriced food. While the food isn't bad it's not worthy of the expense of paying New York City prices. Pity it is so close to the Village but it's not worth the trip or the hassle for the cost.
Great food but the service was s-l-o-w and poor. You just order at a counter, so I never expected the food to take nearly an hour to come out. 40 minutes after ordering I politely asked when they thought it would be ready given we had kids that were well past mealtime. They tersely responded they "make their food fresh" and it takes a while and there were a lot of orders ahead of ours. Mind you, the place was empty. The guy came out and repeated this to us in a snippy way, totally unprompted, a few minutes later. Nearly an hour after ordering, we finally got our burgers and fries. No apology, no offer to get the kids' food out sooner. It was good, but not worth the wait or the poor service.
Not a big fan. Only 4 tables in entire place, ended up eating on a plastic picnic table outside with the ambiance of the garage located directly behind with air guns running. Food extremely overpriced. Good fries, chicken sandwich was bland with no taste, water came in plastic cup with no ice. Not really sure where all good reviews come from. See alot of negative reviews about rude service. More to a dining experience than just the food.
Very horrible experience. Cashier was very rude and difficult. Had a hard time paying for the order because the cashier kept questioning me while trying to pay because he didn’t believe I was baby sitting the kids that were with me. I felt very racially profiled because I was trying to pay for their order but he only felt comfortable talking to the kids and not me even though I was polite.
Sweets mostly foodservice supplier made so packed with preservatives. Most food doctored to look home made but not. Some good eats but small portions Generally overpriced for what is provided. Good for a snack outside if you don’t mind being attacked by mosquitoes and other bugs. People usually friendly when they are not to busy then you get ignored.
Terrible experience here. We stopped for lunch one day mid-week with our 2 small children and elderly parents. We ordered sandwiches and a hot dog. We waited over 1 HOUR for our food!! The lady working inside was unessarily rude when we asked when our lunch should be ready. It seemed like they were prioritizing take out orders. (Not a nice way to treat customers that are sitting out-doors on a rotting picnic bench) Food was mediocre at best. We will never be back.
Went with my nephew who has been diagnosed with Autism. The elder lady made my brother feel awlful. The baby was l may have been making noise but we were the only customers there. When a person came to pick up food she mention I had better moments, implying we ruined her day. Can't believe in this day an age we are not understanding of condemn with disabilities. The lady(Joanne) made the burger leave a bad rate in my mouth.
Didn’t get a chance to experience the food. We drive an hour and a half to get there. Restaurant was empty except for one patron. Asked to use their restroom and was told you have to order and pay first because the restrooms were for paying customers only. Their policy was repeated by the gentleman (perhaps the other owner) behind the counter, albeit a bit more politely. Which would be understandable except it’s sometimes difficult to wait. Nevertheless tried to convince the lady (perhaps the owner) that we were indeed staying and ordering evidenced by calling half an hour ahead, but were refused the use of their bathroom bra cause so many people had not ordered in the past. On principle we left. Rhinebeck is abundant with great restaurants with far better attitude, which ultimately is part of any dining experience. After all customers are paying and thus deserve reasonable respect and accommodations.
Burger was good but the lady at the counter (black rimmed glasses) was very rude. As paying customers we asked if she could refill my refillable water bottle and she refused but pointed to the bathroom. When my husband then tried to buy water she told him no because he only had card and there was an arbitrary card minimum. This is after we already paid and ate. Not how you treat paying customers so won’t be returning. 👎🏽 Her book was featured on the counter- I bet it’s not that good.
Pulled into parking lot and began looking at the menu online to decide if we wanted to eat here. Place looks a little run down from the outside so wanted to look over reviews online. After sitting in the car for a minute, a woman from the restaurant came out and asked us to leave if we weren’t coming in. Very rude attitude, not friendly at all. Was pretty shocked that she would speak to potential customers like that! Can’t speak to the food as we quickly went in search of a friendlier place! Parkers be ware!
Rude. Possibly profiled. Wife asked to use restroom while I was ordering. Told to wait until we paid. Really? You’re taking my order for crying out loud. It’s not like this is a high traffic area with tons of people coming in just to use the bathroom and fleeing without buying. Nope. They’re just jerks. And don’t deserve to be supported. Plenty of options a mile down the road.
I went once with the family, and it was memorably unpleasant. We were the only people there the day of visit, and one of the kids decided to sit at the counter, separate from the rest of the family, while we waited. We were advised we all had to sit in one spot rather harshly, so we chose to sit outside and wait for our food. While ordering, I asked casually about menu options, and was given very curt responses. The male owner was very pleasant and friendly when he brought out our food; which was good. I cannot recommend this place based on service and interaction alone.
First off, I was yelled at by the woman behind the counter cause I asked for a cheese they didn’t have. The place is gross. The outside is small tables on dirt, no grass, just dirt and the place is right next to an auto repair with tons of cars in the lot. Oh the smell of exhaust was a nice touch. It sucked.
