Visited Big Shucks Richardson this past Thursday night! Great Experience! Michelle greeted us very kindly at the counter, took our order and even brought out our food as it was ready. The food was so well seasoned and very delicious! We also ordered The Botanero bucket of beers, highly recommend! The Happy Hour specials were the perfect size for appetizers. Will definitely return soon 10/10!

We went for happy hour and ordered oysters — and honestly, we’ve had oysters recently in San Diego and Florida, but these were by far the biggest and best tasting. There was no grit or that watery “off” taste you sometimes get, if you know what I mean. My husband couldn’t stop talking about them for two days!

Sunday afternoon was our first time, we tried raw oysters catfish and coconut shrimp. The shrimp was my favorite crispy and flavorful with a nice dipping sauce. Catfish was fresh and tasty. I didn't care for the hush puppies, dull not flavorful. I don't personally like oysters but we tried them for the first time as a family. We didn't really know what to do since it was our first time so if decide to try this restaurant, you order at the counter and wait for your name to be called and pick up your food. They do ask for a tip after ordering your food. I'm not a big fan of that. Otherwise it was good and we will try it again.

My Husband & I went here to celebrate a milestone in our lives. I had Crab Legs, for the very FIRST TIME, EVER!!! I must say, they were DELICIOUS!!! Especially with the butter sauce!!! We also had the seafood platter, along w/the Crab Legs. Everything was WONDERFUL!!! Thank you, for making our milestone moment and AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!

Ordered through Ubereats and was happy with my order. I ordered the catfish basket with fries and hushpuppies. Everything tasted fresh and was seasoned perfectly. The fries were somehow still crispy upon arrival. I love this place- and I’m sure everything from their menu is equally fresh and delicious.

Good spot for seafood and reasonably priced. You order when you arrive and grab your drinks and sit down, and they bring your food to you. You have to go back to the counter to reorder and get refills as needed and pay for them. Good family place for casual dinning with nice size portions.

Best restaurant for crawfish in DFW! Yes, they're still serving fresh crawfish now. You can tell they're not frozen cuz the meat is tender and it melts in your mouth. Every pound of crawfish comes with a corn and a potato. Their oyster, wings and fries are great too. I've never got sick from their seafood cuz they're fresh and with good quality. For alcohol, they serve beer in giant pitchers, very satisfying to hold. Every Monday they serve $2 margarita, hard to say no to that. Beyond the excellent food, their great atmosphere and service also complete the whole experience. They have a tasteful music playlist and is usually not too loud. Although it's often packed when we go, we usually get served very fast. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They'd remember you if you are a frequent guest. This is where I go for my birthdays. I wish all the best for this business 👏

Just ate here for the first time - and I was surprised at how good it was. My group had oysters, steamed shrimp, tilapia, fried pickles, coconut shrimp and cocktails! Everything was really good and very fresh. And the prices are very reasonable. You order at the counter - it’s a super casual vibe. Reminds me of the places we eat when we go to the beach.

10 out of 10. We come here often but tonight I felt like I needed to leave a review. Everything was so delicious. We ordered 2 pounds of boiled shrimp and we ordered it extra spicy and juicy and they gave me exactly that. Extremely satisfied. Definitely recommend.

I think we found my new favorite seafood joint. Shimp cocktail, wings, steamed shimps, crawfish, catfish, they are all good! We especially like their spicy garlic seasoning.

I was in the mood for catfish fillets and big Shucks didn't disappoint! My three catfish fillets were tasty and I also liked their fries and coleslaw. It was plenty for food and I'll come back for sure.

I visited this place Sunday morning after church for the first time and i was pleasantly surprised. I had the Shrimp Cocktail and ordered a few more items and also the Shucks Boil. It was very busy, manager was very attentive and was helpful when picking up my order! Will definitely bring my friends and come again! Great atmosphere and music!!

The raw oysters were big, though there was no red sauce. The gumbo soup was good, but I prefer this at other places. The Mojarra fish, which was fried tilapia, was huge, gorgeous, and had a great taste. Not expensive, but also not inexpensive. I'd go back for the Mojarra and the oysters. One orders at the front desk, seats themselves, and comes back for items when their name is called, so there is no waiter service, just someone who clears used plates.

You can always count on Big Shucks for a great seafood dinner. My favorite is the coconut shrimp. You get six good sized shrimp with a side of two hush puppies and limp French fries. If you’ve read any other of my reviews I’m a fries snob. Give me crispy fries or forget about it. I don’t expect unbreakable fries, but give me crispy ones. Update on fries: last Friday I asked for crispier fries and my wish was granted. Thank you, Big Shucks! Our second dinner was fried crispy catfish with the same two sides. Very flavorful and flaky. The tartar sauce was perfect. I’ve had the shrimp cocktail in the past and it’s excellent tasting. Next time I’m diving into crab of any kind. Update: no crabs, but my catfish was crispy with no fishy taste. I love the crumbs they drudge the fillets in. Usually the big steak fries are too soft for my liking, but tonight’s was perfect! Thank you, French fries caretaker. Husband first had the tasty shrimp bisque and then the salmon platter and was very pleased. The toasted bread and hush puppies were enjoyed.

Wow the price at this place is pretty reasonable. My friend and I came here and everything was made to order. The portions are big and we probably walked away with 5 plates, beer and dessert for under $68. The service is fast and the vibe is relaxing.

Never been here before, I thought it would be fun. It was a whole lot of fun with a huge selection. You could get crab legs and lots of other sea foods. I got the daily special, which was two shrimp, a fileted fish, French fries, coleslaw. I added a drink and walked out full. Lots to eat and tasted good.

Absolutely loved our first visit to Big Shucks in Richardson! As a long-time fan of Aw Shucks, I had high expectations, and they certainly did not disappoint! They serve the best snow crab legs in town—hands down! My personal favorite seasoning was the spicy garlic, which added the perfect kick. The gumbo was fabulous and packed with flavor, making it a must-try. While the fried catfish was decent, it didn't quite steal the spotlight for me. What truly stood out was the friendly service; the employees were super welcoming and made our experience even better. We will definitely be back for more delicious seafood! Love going here! The food has always been good. I had the catfish & shrimp meal. Ate inside, although they do have a covered patio with plenty of space to eat outside. This was my first time eating here. I can tell you now that the service was spot on! Super friendly and helpful. .. I even mentioned to my wife how great the service was. We don't go out to eat for service, though, so what about the food? We went for lunch and got a few different things. Calamari for an appetizer, 1 lunch special, and 1 tilapia with vegetables. The calamari was great, no complaints at all. The lunch special for Thursday is 5 shrimp, fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw. For $7.99, it's hard to beat! The shrimp were huge, and overall, I really liked it. The tilapia was pretty dry, though. I would avoid it, or maybe try the blackened dish instead. The veggies included were good. I will definitely try it again, but I will stick to a lunch special next time. If you've never been, it's worth going! Total price for those items.. $45. Sorry, but no pics!

I like the catfish I had and coleslaw was not fond of the Fry's but rice was good. I think they need a red beans and rice side. Went with a friend she got fish tacos. It was fun. The would make announcements when food was done it was loud and would interrupt us talking. It was sort of self serve. They give you the food. There are no servers but they ask for a tip up front. I didn't know I would be serving my self. If I did I wouldn't have left a tip.

I love coming here, specially with friends and family. I have tried every single Big Shucks and Aw Shucks in the DFW. Location wise, this one is my favorite, but portion size I prefer the one in Greenville. It seems their boil sizes have become smaller over the years. The staff is friendly, outside patio is pet friendly. The drinks are amazing, but they're a hit and miss. Sometimes they're delicious, sometimes they feel like they skimmed on the liquor. Definitely recommend these two drinks.

Today I ordered the 1 catfish and 4 shrimp meal with an added piece of catfish. The fish and shrimp were fresh and didn't have a fishly taste. Could have used a bit more salt but the flavor was good overall. They serve thick cut steak fries which is a plus in my book. I wish I would have got extra hushpupoies opposed to the extra fish because they were great. Not too hard on the outside too crumbly on the inside. The flavor was delicious.

We arrived just ahead of the Friday night rush. We ordered quickly, then left the counter with icy-cold beers. The food was delivered quickly. The dozen oysters on the half shell were fresh, chilled, and yummy. I love the "make your own cocktail sauce" stations! The rest of our order was delivered, and our various choices of fried seafood were fresh, hot, and tasty. The fried shrimp were a bit overcooked and thick with the cornmeal breading. That made them tough, and the globs of cornmeal in their folds were partially uncooked. The catfish and fried oysters were perfect. The noise level makes it difficult to have a conversation, and the multiple screaming children are annoying. The staff is quick to respond, to check on us, and to clear the tables as needed. Overall, the positives well outshine the negatives.

Establisment charges on the honor system. There is usually a misunderstanding between what they think you ordered and what you ordered. You really need to keep track of what you eat and drink. Wish they were charging like a regular restaurant an provided service. Food is a bit pricey but when they are on. They are on. They have a good selection of food. Enjoy

We've gone here a few times for lunch from work. The food is good, the service is good, and really the atmosphere is great! I really enjoyed the coconut shrimp the most, but my coworkers raved about the boiled crawfish seasoned with the works, the ceviche, and the fish tacos. Just keep in mind, we got there early each time because it gets pretty busy.

In my opinion, this is the best fried seafood joint in North Dallas. Always a cool vibe and enjoyable background music at just the right volume. The drinks are awesome, specially my favorite the "Oil Slick". Fried shrimp are good. Wings are good. Hush puppies are addictive. Shrimp cocktail, ceviche or aguachile always hit the spot and are good choices if you don't want to go the fried food route. This place is my all time favorite.

Went here with some friends and enjoyed the food we ordered in a relaxed environment. The fried whole catfish was seasoned and crispy. Oysters were fresh, whole boiled shrimp was perfectly cooked. The wings were a little salty to my taste. Overall, the food were decent and a good relaxed place to hang out with friends.

Food was good. The girls making drinks and taking orders were super sweet. The guy calling the orders was nice. The lady that I had to pay to leave was super rude and her faces she was making kill. People don’t always go back just because of the food it’s also customer service which she had none of. You can’t ignore your guest and we tell you something 3 times then get upset because you didn’t hear it for being rude.

It's a little pricey, but the food is decent. I typically get the snow crabs and my spouse gets the crawfish. She enjoys them. It can be spicy so depending on how hot you like it you may need to tell them to cut back. They serve raw oysters here and I have not had any issues with those. Overall, a decent spot for some good shelled seafood!

GREAT food, but restaurant concept is flawed! If I were a consultant, I would advise them to change several things: 1) “fast-food” atmosphere DISCOURAGES tipping! I ordered $35 worth food TO GO, but tipped $0. However – I ordered $4 of French Fries for eating there, & tipped $1! 2) Lack of individual menus encourages people to make quick menu choices from the single, large, overhead menu displayed, & so you’re not aware of the prices & may order less as well. 3) Lack of an organized line for customers makes things confusing right from the start, & thus makes customers frustrated from the beginning! 4) They ask for payment without even bothering to print out your invoice! This contributes to my overall frustration & the idea that I’m being rushed thru the entire process. NOT GOOD!!! I realize that this restaurant has a 4* Google rating, & the customers I saw there on Sunday, May 26th seemed to enjoy their food & were comfortable with the experience. Does this mean that I won’t go back? NO – BUT: I’ll think twice before going back there again.

I'll start with the positive. The drinks here are great. They are more generous with their alcohol than just about any other place around. The margaritas are amazing and they have very reasonable prices at happy hour. However, the food can only be described as bland. This is a shame since the drinks make this place a great hangout spot with friends. My wife and I ordered a variety of food to try, everything from shrimp tacos to buffalo chicken strips. The experience could only be described as the battle of the blands. 5 stars for the drinks. 1 star for the food.

The food is okay, nothing to write home about. Living in Baton Rouge/New Orleans for almost two years made me a Cajun/Creole food snob. Big Shucks seafood is bland, but they give you good portions. I’m on the hunt for SEASONED seafood.

Food was good. I just can’t get jiggy with the hot sauce as a boil add in. Besides that it was still good. My husband was not okay with the customer service. He had met us there after work and said the guy with the red shirt is not friendly at all. I kinda understood him on that. The guy wasn’t all that friendly. He was okay to me. He had his moments.

Their food is decent enough as far as deep fried food goes. The problem is in their gimmick checkout. This place won't give you a ticket or an itemized receipt and "relies" on the customer's honesty when it comes to paying. This is a problem as the pay line backs up because people are trying to remember what they ordered. I sat near the front door and watched as it took much longer than necessary to pay and leave as every single customer struggled to remember their exact order. When it came my turn to pay, i told the cashier they need to write down the order as it would be more efficient. She answered, "This is just for show. We have someone keeping track of every order." Go here by all means if you're in the area and is in the mood for decent deep fried food. Go somewhere else if you want decent deep fried food without the headache of waiting in a long line to checkout.

Their oysters are overpriced, aren't shucked properly, and don't seem that fresh. The fried catfish is excellent. All of the chairs and tables are always dirty, I checked all of them and had to clean my own seat to sit down. Overall I can't give a good rating for sanitary reasons. The high prices for a place that exclusively uses plastic and disposable cutlery and dishware don't help either. I'd also like to mention that having self serve horseradish and lemons, but not for anything else (like cocktail sauce or ketchup) is absurd.

Although, the atmosphere was pleasant. It was not cluttered or small for most places that sell crab legs, crawfish, bag, boils, etc., So for the quality of the food, its seasonings, etc., did not match the prices of their food. Most places include seasoned potatoes, corns, etc., in the boil. But they charge $31.99 per lb. And you have to purchase the sides separately. And the boil was not seasoned well, cooked well, and watered down. I think they should consider including those items in the boil and maybe in a bag to preserve the flavor and texture of the items in the boil. Overall, spent like over $70 and just was not worth it honestly. It could be better. So hopefully, they consider working on better overall food quality to match the price, as well.

I'm gf with allergies too, and every time I eat here I get sick. They say they are adjusting. And I honestly can't figure out what it is that affects me, but it isn't good!

I would come here often at least 1 once a week with friends or family. Now I haven’t gone after giving it 3 tries. It must be new management because the Quality of the food really went down. The seafood soup is not as flavorful and instead of putting more seafood in they put bigger potatoes and carrots. It also doesn’t have big prawns on there anymore it has cheap regular shrimp. The salmon is also a cheaper and thinner salmon than they use to serve. Also their regular fried fish basket. The oil wasn’t changed out, so it was rough and made the flavor go away. The only reason I give is two star is because of the service.

This had been my favorite go to for fish, shrimp, fries, and coleslaw for 13yrs until June 1st 2024. I ordered 3 catfish fillet plate, with extra coleslaw, 6pc buffalo wing plate and a margarita. The catfish tasted like swai, margarita was weak as hell, buffalo chicken not tasty, and service was great per usual. I'm from Louisiana and I know what catfish taste like and y'all switched up on me. Go ahead and reply saying it's real catfish whatever else y'all tend to say about customer reviews. It's ok I just won't be purchasing fish anymore.

Food was ok. Oyster were not as freshly (chilled), using a plastic fork (not good)👎🏻need to give a real knife or fork..My seafood 🍲 soup not great having to peel your shrimp 🦐 head& all from a soup. The tittle of SEAFOOD SOUP 🍲,needs to be JUST ,,SHRIMP SOUP,this was not a SEAFOOD SOUP...sadly all in all the RICE was the only good flavor & cooked great& the ice tea 👍🏻🤷🏻‍♀️. We went last night and I had ordered a shrimp cocktail & my wife ordered the tilapia tacos…. We both woke up sick 🤒 and got the worst headache from the contaminated fish.. It’s called the Ciguatera poisoning. The food tasted like it hadn’t been washed. This was my first time here and my last time. Try this place at your own risk and remember you could always get food poisoning.

We have been loyal Shucks customers since this place opened years ago. Celebrate birthdays and come here often. Today, we showed up for lunch and asked if we could sit in the patio with our pet and were told yes. As we were ordering food, a lady walks up and tells us no pets allowed. We tell her we were just told yes by the hostess for the patio. The lady says 'that's funny, because I'm the manager and no pets are allowed. If you want to eat, the pet can stay outside the fence.' We were a bit insulted with her tone and disappointed, so we said thank you and left.

Terrible Service and Dirty Kitchen - Not Worth the Money I recently had a very disappointing experience at Big Shucks in Richardson location. I ordered three items to eat at the restaurant and one order to go. They gave me the wrong food and still charged me for extra items I didn't order, even after I informed the waiter. Beside that, my boiled crawfish had many dead crawfish and smelled bad. I informed the checkout girl, but all she said was, "Oh, sorry," and turned spoke Spanish to one other staff despite I spoke English to her, and did nothing to rectify the situation. When I finished my meal, my to-go order was not ready, learn that they forgot; and they only started making it after I asked. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes.😖 While waiting, I noticed the kitchen was very dirty, with trash on the floor. To make matters worse, four employees were chatting and laughing with each other, despite other customers waiting in line to get their orders. One customer even left after seeing that. I spent over $100 on my meal, but the poor customer service and bad food, dirty kitchen made it a terrible experience. I am very disappointed and will not be returning.

I had a very disturbing experience- While eating my fried fish, I found what appeared to be a worm inside the flesh of the fish. This was not on the surface — it was embedded inside. This is a serious quality control issue. I understand that parasites can naturally occur in fish, but it is the restaurant’s responsibility to properly inspect and prepare seafood before serving it to customers. Finding something like this completely ruined my meal and was extremely unsettling. I expect better standards when dining out, especially at a seafood restaurant. I hope management addresses this immediately to prevent this from happening to other customers.
