We walked by the place and decided to stop because the vibe was nice. We had a lasagna and carbonara and they were amazing. We finished with an excellent Tiramisu which was one of the best we ate. We love stopping randomly to restaurants and discovering an amazing place. We strongly recommend.
This place saved our night after we'd extracted ourselves from the dead restaurant next door in need of some vibe (and some more food). The attentive owner was dancing away and keeping everyone entertained. Lovely drinks and ok food (definitely microwaved, but still tasty) served up with a smile. Reasonably priced. Great atmosphere.
An absolute recommendation! The bar has a fantastic atmosphere with great music and a lively vibe. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always in a good mood – you feel welcome right away. Service was excellent and fast. And the highlight: the pizza – simply the best I’ve had in a long time! 🍕
The food was amazing but the service and atmosphere was world class. The owner came to greet every table, and you could feel the passion for hospitality radiating from him. Our favorite was the pizza with ham, pistachio and burrata. The bruschetta was fresh and decadent with generous helpings of the best pesto I’ve ever had in my life. The kind of pesto everyone tells you to get in Italy — they have it right here. Nothing was bad, everything was good. What more is there to say?
We started with amazing spritz’s (generous alc) Hugo (zambuca, mint, lime), Lemon spritz. Wonderful atmosphere very good, lively service, fun Italian classic pop songs playing good vibe music. We had pizza & beer afterwards which was probably the best bread base ever. Highly recommended.
Wonderful place with a great patio and view. Pizza was actually best we had in Italy in 3 weeks- was super disappointed with most pizza and food in general in Italy. Sauce, bread, and cheese were all the best with very good flavor. Prosciutto and fungi pizza is what we had. Burger was also good but could use some kind of sauce to be perfect. We also tried tiramisu- was not too sweet and coffee beans gave an interesting crunch with caffeine, which I prefer; maybe not for sugar lovers with high-end taste. Service was good and owner was very kind and respectful. Several cool people working there. Margarita was strong with proper mix and proportions of ingredients... and STRONG; however using a shaker would make it perfect. I watched the owner (presumably) added up the check in his head looking at the paper and didnt add up the check correctly; but no worries, would have given a 5+ euro tip anyways;) Overall, fantastic. Wish these folks the best!!! Happy experience.
What a great experience for our first night in Riomagiore. We had a bottle of house wine, Margareta pizza and spicy salami pizza. They were very delicious! The server (owner?) was very attentive given he was running around serving the whole patio area. We saw other around us ordering other great foods like the pistachio pizza and lasagna and we want to come back to try it. What a treat! Plus the atmosphere is outstanding. Edit: We came back for lunch and breakfast and again the food and coffee were delicious. Definitely one of the best places in Riomaggorie.
Probably one of the best spots in town. And also one of the most unappreciated. It's not on the main road, you have walk a bit to get there, but it's worth it. Fresh food (not the pizza) and good service. Open early for the coffee drinkers. Worth noting, only place (near the train station) does fresh pizza. All the other places in town do frozen. So est something other than pizza and you'll be delighted.
I visited Old School twice while staying in Riomaggiore in mid-March. I had pesto lasagna, a few drinks, affogato, and a sandwich during my visits. The food was all stellar and one of the best affogatos I’ve had! Vincent + family are such lovely people, I enjoyed chatting with them, letting their sweet dog, and meeting other locals + tourists. This place has some of the best vibes, you’d be remiss if you didn’t check it out while in Riomaggiore! 💚☺️

If we had only visited on our first night, this would be an easy 5-star review. We didn’t try the food, but the drinks were solid, the view over Riomaggiore is unbeatable, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming — thanks entirely to Carmen. She was kind, fun, and made everyone feel like family. We loved it so much we returned the next night, but unfortunately had the opposite experience. Carmen wasn’t there, and instead an older man with salt-and-pepper hair was behind the bar. We politely asked if an empty table inside was available (it was around 9pm and their posted closing time is 11pm). Without even a greeting, he snapped, “No! We are closed.” This was confusing since several people were still seated both inside and outside with drinks and food — and there were open tables outside as well. As we walked away, we watched him offer that exact inside table to another couple. We would have gladly sat outside again if he had simply said the inside was spoken for. Instead, the unnecessarily rude response left us feeling unwelcome. Bottom line: If Carmen is working, you’re in for a great night. If the older gentleman is there, manage expectations — the vibe is completely different.
Wonderful view over the ocean, one of the highest restaurants in the village. The food was alright, probably better than the fancy fake establishment nearer the water front. The Bruchetta for starters was very good. Pasta was good and enjoyable, if not a tad overpriced. Two orders of the same dish look very different (see pictures below) so not very consistent. One meal was missed in our group, which arrived 10 minutes after everyone else’s. Apart from these the waiter and bar staff were very accommodating (unlike other places in the area).
Please do not eat here. Our take away literally was just microwaved, they didn’t even take it out of the containers. Complete ripoff for price & tasted terrible.
We popped in here for a late dinner because it was close to our airbnb, the outdoor lighting looked nice, a few other people were there and some fun music was pumping out the windows. It took a very long time to get their attention to order once we were sat down. When we ordered our food, a lot of things weren’t available- this was okay with us, we came for a late dinner so couldn’t complain if some things were run out. We had a caprese salad and a ragù each. Ragù was truly terrible. Bland, only just warm in temp, and the pasta had random patches that were crunchy, as if they’d gotten crunchy in a microwave or something. The rest was slop. The sauce had no flavour. I’ve included pics of the strange crunchy pasta. The mozzarella in our caprese salad was decent, but I was disappointed with the dried basil sprinkled on top instead of fresh leaves. Overall it was devastating to part with €15 for each plate after receiving this meal. We had had spaghetti at a place down the road - Da Dulin - for the same price only the night before and we were raving about the exceptional quality. I would avoid old school unless you are desperate and starving.
