I love this place. I always go here for a good garbage plate. They are the only place with very good mac salad. It's perfect for a nightly meal after drinking and also it's perfect to have on the way out the door. They are quick service and nice people. Never had to wait long for food. It's faster then fast food lol.

You don't go into Stevie t's for the atmosphere, but the customer service is quick and I bet us customers are annoying, so I don't expect them to be super happy. I can say that the food is always consistent and good and I love that you watch them cook your food.

Went today to get lunch for my mom. She loves the hotdogs! The lady that was serving was nothing short of amazing! She had a very large order ahead of us that had not ordered yet and she handled everything so patiently and professionally! I watched her the whole time and wished I could've tipped her a trip to her favorite island, all expenses paid. Her customer service was that good! She had every opportunity to lose her cool but didn't. Super impressive! This is the kind of service we don't see or receive every day❤️❤️❤️

What's not to love? As a Rochester native this is a staple! Two plates, 36 bucks, I will say it's gone up but we were able to get food after the bar and nothing is more satisfying after a night out then getting a garbage plate at 1 in the morning. Make sure you get the meat sauce! Happy eating !

It's a dirty, run down, old diner that specializes is a good called a "Garbage Plate". they only take cash. It's my favorite restaurant in town. there's a reason they dont have to update the place, its perfect the way it is.

Food is good. The bathroom is clean with only small artistic graffiti. The hot water works and the toilet has the plunger ready at hand.

There truly is nothing like a garbage plate from Steve Tahoes! Staff is always so friendly and welcoming! The smell alone from outside the restaurant is amazing! Its been a few years since I've gotten a garbage plate but let me tell you the taste never gets old! Been coming here since the 1990s when I went to college at RIT. It had a different name then. Staff still recognizes me even though I only make it in a few times a year when passing through Rochester on trips to Detroit. Food is great, place is clean, and they welcome everyone. The cheeseburger plate, heavy everything, Mac and home fries is my usual.

My big sister visiting from out of town, and I were able to enjoy dinner. It was clean, and, socially distanced. The crew was courteous. The food was great. I must admit that I am a Rochester, NY rated #4 for foodies fan of a hearty, flavourful meat sauce. They're my go to in times of "plates" menu need. Thank you, and keep up the great work.

My friend took me for the first time (didn't know they existed) I'll start with the negative bc once you read the positive it won't matter that much. They are cash only which if you didn't know it sucks, their Mac salad is tasteless and watery which was my hugest disappointment as that's the main reason I wanted a garbage plate. Positive: staff are fast and friendly, they are clean there, food was amazing (aside from the Mac salad) and they are definitely affordable. Definitely will get food there again and hope it was just a fluke with the Mac salad.

Plates are excellent, if you don't like your burgers with pink centers ask for them well done. (Owner could be a little nicer, especially when they mess up, which is not often but you don't go there to see him, you go for the plates).

I was warned by a friend that this place isn't a place for the indecisive, and so, we decided the best welcome would be a local favorite: Steve T. Hots & Potatoes. Indeed, the staff of Steve T. Hots & Potatoes are a bit tough around the edges and burly, and look like they can easily best me in an arm wrestle match. Nonetheless if you know what you're getting, you can brisk through ordering and get exactly what you want, and then outta here. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the food you're getting, and for that reason you get to see the cross section of America through this place. One strange thing I noticed is, despite the place's reputation for Garbage Plates, you'll find there is no combination of the two words on the menu, simply noting them as "plates". Apparently this place was once related to the original Nick Tahou's garbage plates, and had become so successful people were convinced the original had closed down. I hope the two relatives can mend their ways. I never went to Nick Tahou's but I'm sure it's just as good an experience as this one. If you're wondering why I gave the 4-stars instead of the 5, it's merely because they are still cash-only in 2022. Sure, they have the right to accept only cash, but many people, myself included, are inconvenienced by it and have the right to complain. Such is New York! Would return, with cash in hand.

Came in and ordered the Pork Sausage Plate with Home Fries and Macaroni Salad. Tons and tons and tons of food. Everything was solid food, nice meal to get full off of and it’s nice that this establishment is open late.

Great location. Well lit and very clean. Great staff. Fast and friendly. Generous portions. Beef in the meat hot sauce & cheeseburgers is really good meat, but there's no salt in anything which is weird but not bad. Just be prepared to add salt and or ketchup. There are giant ketchup dispensers nearby. I got my plate over onion rings and home fries. I love the onion rings! No complaints at all.

Mac salad was SWIMMING in my container!! I have noticed this more and more, if the restaurant makes it themselves they NEVER drain the water and it's REALLY GROSS when your food is sloshing around in water!! Yeah, I get the name Garbage Plate but it doesn't HAVE TO TASTE LIKE SEWAGE bcuz of either laziness or greed!! It is very convenient if you want something to eat after hours and late at night. The food is not that great. It very bland, maybe the garbage plates are not for me, it was my 1st time eating there and having a garbage plate. I am new to the Rochester area and I heard about how Rochester is known for garbage plates, but I did not their's at all. Their employees are somewhat rude, heard to talk a couple people like a dogs and then continue to talk about them when they left, in front of other employees. I am giving them 3 stars for now, because it could've been a off night for them.

What happened to the hot sauce. It was very dry and disgusting. The hots were like rubber undercooked. The hamburgers were ice cold. Will not go there anymore. The burgers were also alit smaller. What happened to the quality that we always looked forward to? There were 2 younger girls one who didn't know what she was doing and the other spoke broken English, hard to understand. On a Sunday in Rochester that's easier said than done 😬 Steve T,s was the only place out of the 5 that were recommended that was open Worker at the counter went over the 101 of how to order a garbage plate ....kind of a confusing and not clear Got the standard cheeseburger plate with Mac salad, onion and brown mustard and a separate white hot sandwich The "white hot" ended up on the garbage plate? Confused I guess this is something you have to grow up with...or drunk to enjoy. I get what it is, carb overload, but for all the stuff on it, it lacked flavor and salt. Just a big plate of bland stuff all smashed together. The best part was the white bread and butter. Onion rings were solid. I can say I had one and check that off my culinary list of hyper regional food. No desire to check that box again IMOP

Went there tonight and ordered “The Plate” which they’re supposedly famous for. It was ok at best. The macaroni salad was tasteless and the home fries are deep fried which really ruined any potential for the plate all together. The meat sauce is good but not the best I’ve ever had. We ordered the Cheeseburger ones and noticed the burgers are already pre cooked as they smacked them back on the grill as a reheat. This is pure laziness on the cooks part and it affects quality which is a huge turn off. This place is supposedly a take off of the original Nick Tahous on Main St. and I believe it’s a Family Member of the same but can’t use the trademarked “Garbage Plate”. Anyhow, go there during the day if you really must visit. It’s in a sketchy neighborhood just outside the City Line. I think at night I wouldn’t feel safe. I won’t rush back as it didn’t deliver what I had expected. . If you would like to try a real good version of the Plate, I’d definitely recommend Tom Wahls in Avon and don’t waste your time here. Their version is called the Junker Plate. Much better and worth the drive and it’s $2.00 more and a great environment too. Easy to get to off 390 Exit 10.

Food that'll fill you up. Definitely a notch above Nick Tahoe's, for comparison. Definitely a classic "greasy spoon diner" vibe, for better or worse. -1 star: Needs a "Cash Only" sign. (an "ATM" sign doesn't count). I don't know anyone who actually carries a debit card nowadays, and most people don't want to deal with the fees of doing a cash advance on credit.

This was my first garbage plate & it was huge. Service was excellent, ladies at the counter were patient and helpful. My friends and I agreed the French fries/hash browns need seasoning. Also wished they were crispy. Meat sauce was bland. Overall, service was fast and the price is fair for the amount of food you get.

Decent prices. Way better customer service than nick Tahoe’s. The plates are actually really large and it’s a tough meal to finish. Needed a little salt. I’m not sure they have yellow mustard which is weird. Pretty good plate! I’m never a big fan of seeing a days worth of potatoes over on the grill.

We've been going to Steve T's for years. We dont live close by we were in Rochester today & felt nostalgic & stopped in around 5 pm. The weather was bad there weren't many people there. We ordered a Garbage Plate with a Hotdog & Sausage with onions mustard & hot sauce. First of all I noticed the new containers are much smaller than the old ones. Than I noticed the price has increased alot. We opened the container it had very little mustard & hot sauce on it. My husband went to the counter & asked the girl for more hot sauce. The female staff said that will be 1.35 my husband replied u hardly put any on. She said that's the rules! Also it all tasted completely bland & sitting in water. It was probably a good thing they hardly put any hot sauce on our garbage plate the little container was all oil & a little bit of meat on the bottom. Steve T's will now be in our nostalgic memory we wont be returning.

CASH ONLY! I had to use the ATM in the back. I was charged a $2 service fee at the ATM and then was randomly charged a “foreign ATM fee” from my bank. So I ended up paying $5 in fees for a $4 order of undercooked fries.

I always go here for my dad and my sisters. Tonight both of my sister calls and said the burgers has a funny taste. One of my sister said it taste like freezer burn. Well I called and the employee said all their burgers are frozen and cook fresh. It might be the sauce. I said one had the sauce and the other one didn't. He said well their nothing I can tell you. I told him, I was just bringing this to your attention and sometimes a batch can be a bad batch. He said call back tomorrow around 11:00 am and talk to a manager. I will and if I am satisfy I will update my reviews. I even tried to tell the employee, that I come there often and never complain but to have him say, there's nothing wrong. I said you need to taste one first because there could be a bad batch of burgers.

It's 2024, and this place doesn't accept cards. Although they do have ATM inside. Also, they stop accepting phone call orders for pickup after certain hours so you can go and wait in line with strangers 🙃 in the middle of the night... a big NO for me. Furthermore, the staff on the phone sounds cranky. Like, do you want to attract customers or not? I only trying to order my food, no need to give attitude. I do like their late hours and do want to try their food 😩.

To start with, the girl taking orders was not friendly or helpful in any way. “cash only, the ATM is over there” is all she had to say. We each ordered a burger with hot sauce and condiments, to go. We found that the burgers were tiny, and one of them was lacking all condiments except the hot sauce. The hot sauce was not hot or tasty in any way. It was the blandest, smallest Cheeseburger I have ever had. I was thinking $4.50 for a cheeseburger was a good deal but turns out you get what you pay for. Would not go back there or recommend this place for a cheeseburger if you are hungry.

The meat sauce on the garbage plate had 0 flavor and it’s mostly all oil , so the fries will be mushy by the time you get home. And The burger patty might not be a burger patty, more like hockey pucks

Very disappointed with a very small and very dry Burger. Fries were double dipped and burned and dry. Twelve bucks including tip and I threw it in the garbage can right outside. Not sure what happened because i've had good experiences in the past.

Didn't realize when you ask for hot sauce, you should expect a swimming pool of grease. This is unbelievable. The burgers are almost the size of sliders. Rochester was the founder of the garbage plate and this place has absolutely ruined the name. There really is no sense of pride in quality of work anymore. Please do everyone a favor and just close your doors. (Not kidding) Everytime I drive by, there is literally at most, two or three cars in the parking lot. And now i know why. Do better or close up shop. Your embarrassing a dish that this city made famous. Total shame.

Went to this jankie food place ordered a chicken finger plate before I ordered. It would have been nice for them to tell me. It was cash only not mention. There are ATM machine inside only serves you increments of 20. I have $20 on my Cash App and cannot pull it out because I do not have the $2. Fee there ATM charges, so not only are they over charging you you for your food? They're overcharging you if you have to pay with cash by using the ATM. No I didn't have the money to take out but I have $7 in cash and $20 on my Cash App. Neither one of the gentlemen working there except cashapp payment and have no alternative to pay other than cash. That leads to a failing business and not to mention their chicken fingers looked really shady, they're hot potato ashgrounds have been sitting on the grill probably for 7 hours and their max salad looked really disgusting. FYI don't even hair if you wanna get food poisoning, go ahead and need hair. Not to mention the men there were extremely rude. And looked like they were women haters. I would definitely say they have no customer service skills And they laughed at me very unhappy and hungry. And I hate people because of this.

I wouldn't come back here even if they paid me for the food. My plate was really nasty and extremely greasy and salty. In general the food seems to be overpriced for what you get. Paties were precooked( who knows when), and pulled from a pan filled with some kind of mystery liquid. Ladies behind the counter were border line disrespectful and without manners. Ensure to carry cash. I am not sure how a restaurant can go buy without accepting credit cards in the 21st century but this place apparently does My whole experience was subpar and disappointing.

They have watered down most of the foods and even the purchasable products. I'm from Rochester and now live in Philly area but often have the meat sauce as a gift as it was a favorite.. I wouldn't bother after this last few batches, I'm convinced they are cutting cost at this point as it was just grease and water.. MAYBE 3 spoonfuls of meat in the entire mason jar. I just cannot stand the taste as it once compared with more meat and will not continue to support stevets.. Bought a garbage plate - cheeseburger plate macaroni salad home fries with everything on it and a fountain beverage. Haven't been here since it was Nick Tahoes. The lady taking my order was not friendly. When I took out my credit card she said cash only and said there's an ATM in the back. I happened to have cash on me and she wanted to know if I wanted the 2 cents. The home fries were sitting on the grill since I walked in. So for my plate they never took out fresh home fries. Who knows how long it was sitting there. Seemed like the bottom of the plate was full of water. Usually I would use the bread and dunk it in the left over sauce. The taste was off. There was something hard in the food that I'm only guessing was cartilage from the burger. I want to say tom wahl's is around $18 and you have access to refill your drink. This place charged almost 18 but it wasn't worth it. I won't be back. This is the cleanest I have ever seen it but there was nobody there and I can see why. The food isn't what it was. It's sad because this was a Rochester staple. I remember screaming my order in the paste using tahoes slang "cheese plate, mac, home fry". I'm surprised the girl has to repeat the order to the cook who is only a couple feet away.

Fast service, but the quality of the food went down a lot from the last time I went there, which was 4 years ago. The cheese burger plate tasted nothing like remember from before. No seasoning what’s so over not even salt or pepper, the plate was so bland that I didn’t even attempt to finish it. The Mac salad was awful and the meat sauce had no flavor, they cooked the home fries crispy which I do like but all I tasted was the frying oil from them. Not worth the trip for a late night bite, my advice take the extra drive and get a plate somewhere else.

Born and raised in Rochester. Had garbage plates our whole lives and always LOVED them. Moved away 25 yrs ago and have a tradition of stopping for a plate every time we come home for a visit. We always look forward to it; actually get excited, until today. What happened to the food?!?! It was completely disappointing! Hot sauce, macaroni salad, both tasteless, potatoes mediocre. The burgers were ok but thinner than usual. Never had to add anything before but these needed Frank’s Red Hot, extra mustard, and several other additions just to choke it down. The only reason we ate any of it was because we were so hungry and hate wasting food and money. I wouldn’t have fed this to my dog! We won’t be back, which is really disappointing. We’ll have to find a new place for garbage plates.

Wet noodles and soggy fries because the hot sauce is meat in flavorless water that gets dumped over everything creating a puddle at the bottom of the container. Burgers were not fresh. $35 for two plates and 2 fountain sodas.

Been a customer for over 30 yrs. Had the worst plate in my life tonight! Asked for extra crispy home fries and they were as soft as mashed potatoes and there were no onions! I think I’m done with this place. Definitely not like it used to be BACK IN THE DAY!!!
