I’m still thinking about this meal. 👀 I went for the fried clams with the belly (the only way to do it, trust me) and they were everything—crispy, flavorful, and just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I paired them with a little tartar sauce and lemon. I also ordered the cold lobster roll… speechless. 🦞 The lobster was so fresh and tender, and the homemade coleslaw on the side balanced it perfectly. Drink could use little more flavor— but everything just felt so thought out but not overdone. On top of that, the service? 10/10. The waiter was so nice and walked me through the menu as they have so many options, he definitely made the whole experience even better. I’m already planning my next visit because there’s still so much on the menu calling my name. If you’re in the area, this place is a must.
Great local seafood place in Rockville Center. Bigelow's has been around since 1939 and it is nothing fancy. They offer excellent New England and Manhattan clam chowder soups, as well fried shrimp and clam strips platters. Try Bigelow's New England Seafood. You will not be disappointed.
It's been a long time since I've returned to Bigelow's since I moved out of state. My job has me frequently traveling and I just so happen to visit NY from time to time. I relived my childhood when my aunt use to bring me here to get the popcorn shrimp and fries. Still delicious to this day. Highly recommend and I'm glad this place is still around after all these years.
I honestly can’t say enough about this place. Everything is fantastic, but you have to try the New England clam chowder. Staff is always friendly and meets you with a smile. As far as the atmosphere, I don’t wanna get too Anthony Bourdain but in a world of polish and perfection sometimes it leaves you yearning for that old school charm. Which this place is filled with. You’d be doing yourself A disservice to not come here.
A MUST GO TO !!! the food is phenomenal 💯 pricey, clam chow is incredible, fish & chips fish pieces are small, fish was refried, I watch him refried it. salad was lettuce and a couple of small tomatoes, nothing else. Salad needs improvement.
Simply put this is the greatest New England style fried seafood you're ever going to eat. Run, don't walk if you're in the mood for seafood. Exceptional courtesy. Exceptional service by a friendly family-owned business. The food is always extremely fresh. Everything that comes to your table is delicious. I have been a chef since 1987 in the food service industry and I could go anywhere to get fish but I will always go out of my way to come here because it's the best experience I've ever had.
While waiting for my car to get fixed, I stumbled upon this quaint little clam bar that immediately stole my heart. Stepping inside, I was transported to a different era — rustic, cozy, and full of character. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with vintage decor and the smell of fresh seafood in the air. The highlight was, of course, the New England clam chowder -incredibly fresh and expertly prepared, rich and flavorful. Their fried clam strip sandwich...absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Locals come in and everyone knows all the tea. This place is a true hidden treasure, perfect for anyone craving authentic seafood in a relaxed setting. If you find yourself nearby, definitely give it a try — it’s a delightful find that’s well worth the detour!
1st time here and definitely won't be the last. Clam chowder was thick, creamy and flavorful. Also got buffalo fried shrimp and that didn't disappoint either. Looking forward to trying more of their stuff. Place is really neat inside also!
Fresh seafood brought here for generations. Today they only had flounder and salmon. We orders salmon and it was excellent. I generally don’t like fried food, so fried clams were not up my alley. One way or another, the simple menu is well worth coming here and having a fresh grilled fish for lunch. Lots of seating places. See the pics.
I fell in love with this place on my first visit. It had a lively atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. I used to have a go-to spot for lobster rolls, but it closed during the pandemic. Since then, I’ve been looking for a good, fresh lobster roll for years, and I was always disappointed. The lobster roll here was excellent, and the fish and chips were just as good. I’ll definitely be coming back.
In a word, outstanding! You are greeted with a smile the moment you walk in. The staff were super friendly, and eager to recommend the most popular dishes. You need the New England clam chowder in your life. The jumbo shrimp are actually jumbo, lightly coated with a delicious and perfectly seasoned batter, not the typical two parts batter one part shrimp. Try the buffalo shrimp, accompanied by a bowl of that liquid gold chowder. The key lime pie was the perfect addition to what was a very satisfying meal. Over all a great experience, and a must try in my book.
Have always driven past this local jewel but finally got the chance to dine in and see what it is all about. From the moment you step in through the door you are greeted warmly by every staff member. They all are excited to have you enjoy a meal making you feel like you are right at home. My partner and I shared in their clam chowder and some Stewart Cream Sodas before we got our mains. The crab sandwich with coleslaw and famous Ipswich Clams over fries were incredible. We relished in every bite with no shortage of tartar and cocktail sauce. By the time we finished all of that we had no room for their incredible looking pies that turn out to be locally baked. We will have to come back not only to try their lobster rolls but a piece of either the apple or blueberry pie. It is not often you see establishments like this but once you do you always see yourself coming back.
My mom took me here years ago and we loved it, so we finally went back and we’re so happy with it. We ordered too much food but wanted to try a few things. We had the mini crab cakes appetizer which had a nice sauce with it. My mom had the bay scallops, and I did the fried shrimp with a half order of popcorn shrimp Buffalo style since we wanted to try that. We had onion rings and cole slaw. All the seafood is delicious and fresh. The orders are massive. We sat in the outdoor area on a nice warm evening, service was great and our waiter was so nice. The tartar sauce here is probably the best tartar sauce I’ve ever had.
Unbelievable! Wonderfully engaging staff. Clean and nice restaurant. The New England clam chowder cannot be beat! Fried clams are like butter. The crab cakes are made with PLENTY of real crab meat! They have an amazing salad served with fresh avocado! Everything is always so deliciously fresh and crisp. Thus far each and every dish is consistently amazing! So worth the 2 hour drive! Lastly but certainly not least, desert! Warm blueberry cobbler, decadent and plentiful slice of homemade fudge chocolate cake and a hot fudge sundae to die for 😋!
Just stumbled into this place. I knew nothing about it. It looked cool. I left stunned and now a big fan!! Food was amazing and the service amazing as well. We had the crabcakes and the fried Ipswich clams. Warm shrimp roll. Everything was excellent. The homemade coleslaw was on point. The tartar sauce was amazing. And the crabcake sauce was excellent and I topped it off with a pecan pie, which was out of this world props to this 85 year old establishment, family owned business they do a great job and serve great food. I’m def coming back!
When we lived in NY this place was a must have experience. And now that we have been away for 17 years we had to come back. This place is a staple of the community and the food tastes great and brought back happy memories. The staff were amazing as always, they remembered us even though we have been away quite a while. They truly know how to make all guests feel welcome and special. We Definitely will be back every time we visit. Good food Good people Good family

My wife and I just ate here for the first time. We had the fried clam strips (of course), the onion rings and the calamari. Everything was super fresh, and though fried nothing was greasy. Big portions and excellent service. We'll definitely be back!! Also, though there is only indoor seating, all the windows are wide open and plenty of ventilation, so we fealt very safe eating indoors.

The Best Clams on Earth… With a Side of Sticker Shock I’ve been coming to Bigelow’s more times than I can count, and I’ll keep coming back for one reason and one reason only: those legendary New England Fried Clams. They are, quite simply, world-class. But as a long-time regular, let’s have a "real talk" moment about the rest of the experience. The Atmosphere: The place is tiny. While they’ve added some outdoor seating post-COVID, it’s far from "cozy." Unless it’s the height of summer, expect to be a little chilly while you eat. The Food: Here is the truth—the clams and the soups are the stars of the show. Everything else? It’s a bit "meh." I recently branched out and tried the Fish and Chips, thinking they couldn't miss. I was wrong. The fish was falling apart just by picking it up and the "chips" were lackluster. At Bigelow's, the clams are the MVP; the rest of the menu is the benchwarmer. The Price Tag: This is the hard pill to swallow. The prices have climbed to a point that feels almost outrageous. It’s as if they’re testing the limits of what the RVC clientele will pay. The Verdict: I have a permanent warm spot in my heart for this place. I’ll keep coming back until I literally can’t afford the bill, but I’m sticking strictly to the fried clams. Come for the clams, stay for the nostalgia, but bring a full wallet.
This has got to be the most ridiculously overpriced seafood I've ever had in my life. $33 for clam strips, are they out of their mind. I've been around the country and have eaten at seafood spots l…
I’ll start off by saying I really don’t like giving low reviews. I was very excited to try this place seeing that it had pretty decent reviews online. I was VERY disappointed. The prices are outrageous. For the portions you get and the quality, the prices shouldn’t be anywhere near that high. I will admit the fries are made fresh and they make their clam chowder from scratch apparently, which were both pretty good. Otherwise very overpriced. The salad I had was awful they barely had anything on their menu. They had no lobster roll which was advertised and attracted me in the first place. It’s misleading and very very expensive. And I got a piece of blueberry pie to go and it looked like they just threw the worse overcooked piece they could find. Guess I won’t be coming back here.
ARE THEY CRAZY WITH PRICES? I ordered a fish sandwich and soda, said was $ 28 . Are you kidding me. Can get a great filet of fish sandwich anywhere for $ 10 and a soda, should be $ 12.
