Sensational experience. A friend of mine who lives in a nearby neighborhood took me to this place saying it’s one of their top spots. When we sat down, I overheard people from another table saying they visited this restaurant multiple times. After dining here, I can certainly see why. Capparelli’s fully excels in giving the classic Italian restaurant experience. The nailed the inside decor/ambience, the service is excellent, the food is flavorful and made fresh, and the wines are exquisite. Parking is somewhat limited, but they do curbside pickup if you call ahead and make your order. Though I strongly recommend the sit down experience, you will not be disappointed.
Delicious, cute, small town (feel) Italian restaurant in the middle of SA. 😍 The service was great, the food was amazing. I will definitely be back. Portion sizes were generous, prices weren't crazy and the flavors were 👌. We were waited on by SteveO who was perfectly outgoing and helpful during our first time here. Walked us thru the whole menu along with his favs and most popular dishes. I had a 3 topping pizza while others enjoyed salmon & mussel dishes. Everyone gave their food a solid 5 star and we only stopped eating cause of how full we were. I got the 12inch pizza and was still able to save a couple slices for a midnight meal. If you're thinking of trying this place out, maybe try getting a reservation. They were super busy during our visit and we had a 45 min wait. Definitely worth the wait! Maybe you'll be better at planning than us?? 😅 Can't wait to go back and try some of their other menu items.
Ordered spaghetti to go! WOW! We actually got a good portion of food. Paid some $44 for two orders of spaghetti with hearty meat sauce _ salad and bread included. We order from Volare on Mcullough and get the stingiest portion of pasta for the seafood pasta and children’s spaghetti. With a $15 extra for a salad paid some $75 and have to beg for extra bread. That’s what it is about - the pasta! Capparelliies still the best since to 90s!
First time here, street aesthetic is pleasing and welcoming at night, parking is top notch v.i.p. beats the riverwalk. Service is exceptional. Food is, let's put it this way "5 very enthusiastic thumbs up" 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Our server tonight is a Gem! Thanks for knowing yer menus and suggesting wine and drinks. You rock HOPE! Oh and props to the Chef ☆☆☆☆☆
Very cool little Italian restaurant! The food is fantastic, delicious pasta and pizzas, it all came out fast! Friendly service and well kept dining room! Definitely more of a neighborhood restaurant feel wich I liked! The pizza is more homemade feeling with a thick bread crust and lots of cheese but it is delicious!
I was there today celebrating my birthday!! Great food, great service!!! I was able to have conversations with my family and not have to shout. Atmosphere was nice and quiet and not hectic like most restaurants. When we Arrived we were only ones for Awhile before people came in!!! So perfect. Will be going back.
"I love this restaurant. Food and service are always great. It's a hidden gem!" I wrote that six years ago and realized I did not do Capparelli's On Main justice. Capparelli's is an elegant, classy, but at the same time a neighborhood restaurant. I've seen couples dressed up for an evening out and seen customers in shorts with their dogs eating on the patio. The portions are large and everything is delicious. Are you someone that doesn't know how to pair a wine with your meal? Ask your server they will help you out with a great choice.
A great small business just north of downtown San Antonio. Gay Caparelli owns this location and her family has been in the restaurant business for three generations. This restaurant is more upscale and has a much wider variety on the menu than the other Caparelli restaurants in San Antonio. Lots of great seafood options here. The hardest part is choosing just one entree. Suggest reservations for busy nights like Friday and Saturday. With the wife and sister in law in tow we arrived and were promptly seated at a table marked reserved. Best seat in the house in the back corner with a view of entire restaurant. They have a very extensive wine list and tonight we enjoyed a Giesen Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Salad first. Both the house and Caesar salads are excellent. They also have excellent garlic bread they bring out. For my entree I chose the Chicken basil pesto cream sauce with farfalle pasta. The chicken was tender and moist and pasta perfectly cooked. The portions are very large and we took home a lot of leftovers. My wife enjoyed the veal picatta. Very tender. Unfortunately they will be taking it off the menu due to inflation soon. Look at those fabulous, fresh sauteed vegetables. enough for a meal by themselves. My sister in law had the chicken picatta and was impressed. Very tender and juicy. She commented so many other restaurants serve dry chicken. Much love to Gay and her team. Serving great food with great service.
My wife and I haven't been in so many years, but we have returned 🙃 we would usually come during the early evening before closing. Like everything else that has changed, the food we remember was a little more just..tastier. Of course, people change, tastes change and of course cooks change. However, the greeting at the door, the servers with their hospitality felt darn near the same as we remember! Still looking to go back and try more of the menu for old times sake. Good to know it's still around and we'll see you guys again soon. Now... who's hungry? ❤️
While in San Antonio for vacation we decided to take a break from the touristy spots and try some local fare. We picked Capparelli's randomly on Google and we were impressed! Service was excellent from management, hostess, and wait staff, all were very attentive and kept us topped off on drinks and assured any needs we had were met in a timely fashion. Food was fresh and cooked precisely as the vegetables in my dish were just right with the carrots being a big delight as they were not too crunchy but not mushy either. Not pictured by kids has spaghetti with a giant homemade meatball which they devoured. We really enjoyed our decision to venture off the tourist beaten path and enjoy the finest Italian food San Antonio has to offer where the locals eat.
The one appetizer we didn’t like was Sauté mushrooms for us didn’t have any flavor but tortellini shrimp was amazing and also the Chicken picada. the wait was long and took to long for our food to come to our table we didn’t like the fact that a 5 person table sat after us and we were served at lat.
The service provided was commendable, and our waiter was particularly attentive. The ambiance was also quite pleasant, creating a calming and relaxing environment. However, both my wife and I found the food to be somewhat lacking in flavor. Specifically, the Chicken Alfredo pasta, as well as the Chicken Parmesan with pasta, were both perceived as bland. Despite this, the establishment presents itself as a charming venue.
The inside is small but really nice, they have upstairs and downstairs sitting. The host was super nice as well, the food was overall lacking in flavor unfortunately. I ordered an Alfredo but it was very dry and bland. I would not recommend the mushroom appetizer at all. The fried calamari was good, I just wished the dipping sauce for it was better. Wouldn’t recommend overall nor would I go back unfortunately.
My husband and I had one of our first fancy dinners here so it has a soft spot in our hearts. We do enjoy their alfredo sauce so we'll come back in the future but I hope they take this criticism as helpful feedback. Their tomato bread is enjoyable but they burnt ours. Also it is literally tomato slices on cheesy bread so don't order it and expect anything extra with it. We had tortellini primavera which tasted great but the squash was hard to eat. They were cut in massive thick slices so it took a lot of effort to chew. It made the dish harder to eat and the flavor of the sauce got lost with it. I also did not like how the shrimp still had their tails on. I don't like eating the tails or skin so I had to get my hands messy to eat this dish. Their salads are very lacking too. It's roughly chopped iceberg lettuce and red onions. It's sad to say that olive garden does salads way better. Overall still tasty food but for the high price, I'd be hesitant to come back. The servers do the best they can which is appreciated. I love the atmosphere though the bathroom could use some TLC. Hopefully they can improve their menu whenever we decide to come back in the future.
3.5/5 Stars. Rounding down to motivate them to either reduce their prices a little, but best would be to improve the consistency on the food served and overall execution of the dishes. Service is splendid. Seating upstairs is a nice change. Ambiance is family orientated, with their family photos hanging on the walls, a festive Christmas Tree even in the summer next to homely cupboards. Almost like your relatives who were too lazy to take down the tree this year! The food is mixed. Depends on what you get. Their meatballs are phenomenal. The pizza is delicious. Thin, large. Served hot. But have to be honest, it is a little overly reliant on cheese overload. Yes, some say that there can never be too much cheese- this reviewer might be one of these individuals- yet, it should also be understood that others may disagree for health or taste reasons- and an excellent establishment would not have any ingredient overpower all other flavors and would likely offer the option for extra cheese rather than a standard, as reflected in the price. Maybe could use a little more generosity on the toppings, as well as freshness instead. Pasta was good, but not great for the price; bread is decent, with some dryer overbaked pieces. Some dishes inconsistent from different visits. Soup was lacking flavor, pasta was overly reliant on the sauce drenching out the other individual nuances in the meat and vegetables. Overall, the prices are a tad higher than the food dictates. Worth it for the welcoming experience? Possibly. Would recommend trying it at least once to make your own decision, since this is definitely a stroke in this city. The Capparelli Family has been around a long time, with extended family opening other locations using the same name, but- yes, including moved locations- this is the original, folks!
I recently dined at Capparelli's Italian Restaurant, and unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience. First, my drink order was incorrect, and I received a different drink than what I had requested. This was quite disappointing as it showed a lack of attention to detail and care for the customers' preferences. Second, The main dish I ordered was the chicken parmesan sandwich, The chicken in the sandwich was dry and lacked the juiciness and tenderness that I would expect from a well-prepared chicken parmesan. It was not the enjoyable and flavorful sandwich I had hoped for. Furthermore, the red sauce that accompanied the sandwich was surprisingly flavorless. It lacked the rich and robust taste that I associate with Italian cuisine. It felt like the sauce was missing some key ingredients or seasoning, as it failed to enhance the overall flavor of the sandwich. Lastly, the waiter mistakenly delivered a separate to-go order for the Chicken Alfredo to another table. This mix-up further added to the overall negative experience. Despite these shortcomings, I must acknowledge that the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant. The decor was warm and inviting, creating a cozy atmosphere. The staff, apart from the waiter's mistakes, seemed friendly and attentive, trying their best to accommodate the customers. P.S. I tried the Chicken Alfredo and the noodles were good but again the sauce was lacking flavor and had what seemed like a lot of oil (not butter).
