Great authentic Mexican restaurant on the San Antonio Riverwalk, right near the last stop of the tour boat taxis. A whimsical outdoor area includes sculptures and photo op pieces, as well as a great outdoor bar. The open floorplan allows their excellent service staff plenty of room to maneuver and deliver great margaritas and amazing food. We were there for a corporate event, and thus were lucky enough to sample a variety of dishes, including fish ceviche, taquitos, street tacos, a great pork dish, and some of the best quesadillas I've ever had. Food was delivered on a great pace, drinks were never empty, everything was served piping hot, and everything we tried was delicious! Would go back in a heartbeat for a group or individual dinner.
That Happy hour 11-6 🙌🏻🙏🏻 god bless $8 margs that are seriously amazing. I’m a lightweight but two got me lit and the chips and salsa he’ll drown it out. Get the chicken tacos with red salsa (I forgot name) and all the tacos are pretty much amazing. The corn was awesome and tasted perfect. I would definitely recommend for a day drinking chill and sit outside in front of the fan. Loved all the animals too. Amazing server as well.
Update for 2025: Same amazing atmosphere, same amazing service! The food was perfect just as it was when I first posted this review. To be fair, I did order the same thing, but if it's not broke, don't fix it! We also got the chips and queso again, another family member got a side of corn and a tostada for her daughter. Everything was great and came out so fast! I will literally never visit San Antonio and NOT visit this restaurant and I will NEVER not recommend this beautiful restaurant!! 10/10 starts every time!! ---- If you leave this restaurant hungry it's your own fault! This restaurant is Absolutely amazing! From the entryway, the staff, and our amazing meal our experience was top notch! Authentic cuisine was on point, and flavorful to the point I almost hurt myself because I didn't want to stop eating even though I was full. Do yourself a favor and if you haven't eaten here yet, stop here and enjoy!!
We ate just appetizers and drank margaritas. We had a fabulous table overlooking the Riverwalk on a beautiful day in San Antonio. Our waiter was great. He checked on us just enough.
This restaurant is located in the beautiful Pearl Brewery next to the San Antonio River walk. We sat on the outdoor patio with our dogs after a walk in the area. La Gloria has great food, margaritas, atmosphere, and service! It is high on my favorites.
Excellent Mexican food in a charming location in the Pearl District. I highly recommend the mole enchiladas. My wife had the Oaxacan mole and I had the Veracruzana mole. Both different styles of mole, both excellent. Chef Johnny Hernandez and his staff are masters at their craft. The service was also great (with a shout-out to Adrian).
Came out to celebrate my husband's birthday and was our first time here. Great atmosphere, great food, and a great server! The food was definitely and delicious. When you ever come here you must come see Hector. Thank you so much for a great birthday dinner.
La Gloria is a great local San Antonio choice for a meal. The Pearl area is great to walk if you just want to order a mojito from their walk-up bar and enjoy explore im the open air.
The food here is the real deal! It's worth the wait. I recommend you try the street tacos, elote and fondido. The bar is lively and well stocked, a great spot to hang until your table is ready. I love when there's live music in the yard! The whole place is cool, the place I take out of town guests!
We will be back! Nice indoor and scenic outdoor seating. The food was fabulous. We both enjoyed the Bistec Especial and our kiddo had the quesadilla with a side of rice and beans. We had an appetizer of queso/chips and that was delish. Our Bistec Especial was perfectly prepared and all our food was out super quickly! Everyone had plenty to eat and we brought home some leftovers that we didn’t want to waste! I would highly recommend for anyone in the Pearl area for lunch or dinner. Great spot!
La Gloria by the Pearl is such a cool spot to hang out! The patio is super relaxing—big shady trees, fans to keep you cool, and an awesome view of the river and little waterfalls. You can even spot turtles and birds while you eat. The food is solid, classic Mexican dishes, and their fresh-squeezed top-shelf margaritas🍹 are a must. Great place to chill, enjoy the vibe, and take in the beauty of the River Walk🌿. It's definitely one of our go-to spots in San Antonio.
Went on a Tuesday afternoon. It was fairly busy however the service was still good. Parking is super convenient, super affordable, IF you can find an open spot. There is a parking garage nearby. The food was fantastic. Very flavorful and much more authentic than anything on the Riverwalk. The Pearl area is really nice and there are plenty of options to walk around and enjoy the area.
This place was a perfect place for lunch or dinner. I am so glad my family and I went here. This place has fabulous chips and guacamole. My daughter is an incredibly picky eater, and she still loved three kids menu. They had something for everybody. I 100% recommend for anybody. Fabulous options, wonderful food, great margaritas.
The Veracruzana's is absolutely amazing. Chile Pasilla bean sauce, chicken, charred onions, chorizo, poblanos, crema, queso fresco Is wonderful. The charro beans and rice is a great addition. The homemade chips and salsa are delicious. The outside dining area is perfect for dogs and our server brought us a water bowl.
We came here for my daughter’s birthday and at the beginning as we arrived with not the whole party present we were still sitted. Explaining that as soon as the other guests left they could pull the other table when the rest of our party arrived. That was awesome of them. We were told just to order our drinks (beer) from our waitress and she would be happy to bring them to us. But we were forgotten about and my son in law had to keep getting up to get them. The music was awesome, the atmosphere was great until a wedding party had speeches to make to the bride and groom. Which took to long and made no sense. They should have given them a time limit and take into consideration the other guests. Ms Sylvia I applaud you for clearing out our table as needed. And talking to us with your little jokes. Even though we could tell that you were busy. Over All we loved this place and will be coming back.
I had a great dinner and experience. Hands down this is now my top place to have tacos. Food good, drinks good and our server Josh professional and attentive. He had good recommendations. Will I recommend it … yes. My experience has been an excellent one. Thanks to everyone working there at La Gloria. I will become a repeat customer.
Really great and hip Mexican restaurant. Very cool. Metal artwork adds to the ambience. The food was excellent. Vegetarian options for the appetizers but not so much for the dinners. I just had the appetizers and they were quite large so I did not order a meal.
Great atmosphere and the weather was perfect! River boat tour passes close by. Get the Guacamole bowl if you are an avocado 🥑 lover! Tacos are great. The Tuna was ok, portions could have been a bit larger like the menu has. But all drinks are great and will be back soon!
Every time we visit San Antonio this place is a must. The flan is the best I've ever had! It is the smoothest texture with caramel undertones that take you to your happy place. They have a large assortment of drinks and they are very good. The tacos are good and are corn tortillas. The patio area is nice on a summer day and overlooks the riverwalk. Even if you come for drinks, don't forget the flan.
Came here for my birthday celebration with family. It was immaculate, the vibes were awesome. DJ had us jamming’ while eating good food. (Only down side was the 30min+ pause of the DJ for a >private< wedding speech. Felt like that needed a shorter limit and DJ didn’t need to go completely silent. Noticed a lot of paying customers attended to celebrate something and were having a good time till the speech started and after a few mins everyone looked around waiting for them to wrap it up. Waiters were even being asked how much longer so the DJ can start?) wanted to applaud the table busser Sylvia, now that lady was everywhere, getting things DONE. We noticed her and described to meet her and let her know how hard working she was all night & she was the sweetest & absolutely hilarious. From her work ethic, her personality and her dance moves! Haha. We applaud you Sylvia! Thank you for your remarkable impression!
Place has good food good service and great atmosphere. I came here with my kid and she was very excited not only to see the decore but also the games that they have. Happy hour prices were amazing and the portions were not small. I can’t speak to the regular hours, but I am sure they would not disappoint. How is it that they have happy hour Monday through Saturday 12-7? I highly recommend this place!
This place is AWESOME in many ways! Try their cantaritos! They are refreshing! Their service is outstanding! Their food is authentic Mexican cuisine. Absolutely delicious! The ambiance is casual and FUN! They have live/DJ music on Fridays & Saturdays. Come check them out for yourself!
Wonderful location close to the Riverwalk and the Pearl. Came here on vacation so I appreciate a photo opportunity with the San Antonio sign right outside the restaurant. Decent portions, awesome service, and yummy. I got the verde enchilada which was delicious with flavor that penetrates all the way through. Fish tacos and guacamole also shown. My friend’s order she seems to like it. Wished the tostadas had more garnish besides meat and cheese though.
La Gloria is such a good spot if you love Mexican food with bold, authentic flavors. The atmosphere is lively and colorful, and it feels very welcoming. The food tastes fresh and well seasoned, with plenty of options whether you want tacos, quesadillas, or something different. It is a great place to go with family or friends, and you really get that true Mexican comida vibe while you are there.
Outstanding food. Enchiladas veracruzanas, Baja tacos, Pastor tacos, we also had traditional “fondo” cheese with chips and margaritas were all above reproach. Salsa music was outstanding. A nice dance concrete pad would be appreciated to enjoy dancing. Bathrooms were clean. Margaritas were tasteful. Exterior seating was comfortable and repeatable. Lighting ambiance was perfect. Decorations excellent. Transformed our experience from San Antonio to being in Mexico enjoy the ambiance, food and music. Service was very good. Will return.
We loved it here. Eating fantastic food outside in the sunshine beside the river. Had a beer, margarita, corn side and cheese quesadilla with great service and atmosphere. There are tables or couches to sit at, games to play and music. Something for everyone.
It has been a few years since I’ve been back to La Gloria. I was craving the beef molcajete and was glad to see it is still on the menu. We also ordered a peruvian style ceviche, guacamole, black beans and a couple of margaritas. First I want to share that the consistency in the food quality was everything! The beef was so juicy and tender and the flavors of spices in were perfection with the molcajete. If you’re from out of town, you must give this a try. Our ceviche was also delicious! The agua chile, and crispy topping made the dish extra flavorful. I will say if you love avocado, the side guac is perfect to pair with the mocajete. I will definitely be back more often.
Excellent experience at La Gloria 🙌✨ They offered us the daily special, and we had some enchiladas that were absolutely delicious — full of flavor and very well prepared. The service was very friendly from the moment we arrived, always attentive and welcoming. The portions were generous, so we left completely satisfied. On top of that, the restaurant itself is beautiful, with a great atmosphere that makes the whole experience even better. Definitely a place we would come back to and highly recommend. 🌮🔥
La Gloria is so solid. Fresh, delicious food & great service always. I would argue they have the best chips & salsa in town too. Fun atmosphere. I love this place as a San Antonio native…because it is just undeniably a great place. Shoutout to the Southside Location too (I go to both, is so good) Horray
We found this gem on our way back to our hotel. The vibe and atmosphere are in still in holiday spirit which made seating outside even better. Our waitress Yojandy was busy but still took her time with us and spoke both English and Spanish, which is always a plus for us. We were a party of 3. We ordered a few plates and drinks, both drinks and food arrived immediately. I was surprised with it being a full house, how quick it was. Thankfully the food was great despite the reviews. This place is def worth a try, I will def come back next time we are in town.
This place was incredible. The food was amazing, the decor was both vibrant yet super cozy, and the location was choice (on the Riverwalk). I was the blanquito -- with limited Spanish and a little hard of hearing -- eating with my significant other's Mexican family who were entertaining and visiting cousin from Monterey, so I got quite the full-on dining experience in the partaking of this Mexican American cuisine. I'm so glad it was experienced at La Gloria and not elsewhere!
The mole chicken enchiladas were amazing. Very flavorful and the presentation was spectacular. Great house marg as well, happy hour prices made it better and it wasn’t too strong! The salsa had more of a mole flavor to it which I liked, very unique I came in on a time in between lunch and dinner and the vibe was perfect. I got a table outside overlooking the river. The restaurant’s outside area is well done 👌 I can see why this is a top rated spot in San Antonio
We had attempted to eat at this La Gloria restaurant. The way the entrance to it is confusing if your not coming in from Grayson St. Otherwise, good luck getting into parking lot. Plus it's free to park and eat here before 3:00 p.m Since it at or near The Riverwalk. Anyways we were greeted by a friendly hostess and we were asked if we'd like inside or out on the patio. It was already humidity hot so we ate inside. Also, our server Adrian did an amazing job answering all our questions regarding history of the restaurant and the specialty of the foods we had. We had a variety of different foods. We started with queso chorizo dip😋 and chips, shrimp aguachili and enchiladas 😋 chicken mole sopes. All of it was true mexican cuisine. All was of great flavor. Now that we know when and how to enter the parking lot. It has a calming atmosphere. We will come back for more sampling of the geat food.
Delicious authentic Mexican food. A true treasure in San Antonio. This is not Tex-mex, this is puro San Antonio Mexican food. Service is good. Come ready for a chill, laid back meal. Be prepared to wait, but there is plenty to do while you wait. Food and drinks are everything you want on the Riverwalk, that’s actually upriver.
My first time dining at LA Gloria and especially the beautiful outdoor dining. Dinner was served promptly and hot. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We all ordered something different, and each meal was loaded with flavor and with just enough spice. I'm glad we chose to enjoy dinner at LA Gloria and look forward to returning upon my next trip to San Antonio.
If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is your place ! We had our granddaughter’s Birthday 🎂 party here and we had great service and good spirits ! Beer was cold ! And food was hot ! Great salsa and cheese too ! The Aguas chiles w shrimp was 🔥! And the strawberry Margaritas were super chill and refreshing! Enjoy !

Great happy hour margaritas! Fun outdoor patio with holiday lighting in Pearl. Must be a popular spot with warmer weather.

Take the trip to the Pearl area. This is probably the best Margarita we have had anywhere! Food was good.. chips and salsa were superb. Service good. This is the real deal.
We went to the location adjacent to The Pearl, it was good. We have been to the one at the airport several times, and actually like that one better. The one at the Pearl, it gets busy, the seating is kind of tight with small metal picnic tables jammed kind of close. They offer "street fare", which as far as I can tell means there are no combination plates, everything is a la carte - even sides, like rice, which cost almost as much as the tacos, etc. So it's a bit pricey. But it's good food, I loved the shredded beef tostada.
We love this place. Right by the Riverwalk and The Pearl! Good food, great drinks and atmosphere! We've enjoyed the food everytime we've come here! The salsa is a great starter! The street tacos were good! Can't remember all we've had in previous visits been we've never been disappointed. The drinks hit the spot. The Michaladas are pretty good. Not the best we've had, but the Margaritas are awesome! Definitely need to visit!
Stumbled upon this little gem on a visit to The Pearl. My husband had the Al pastor tacos and I had cheese enchiladas. We also enjoyed salsa, guacamole, and queso. The Dr. Pepper needed more syrup. The chips were delicious. I also enjoyed the street corn with my meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff was also quite friendly. I do think the price of queso and guacamole was a bit steep ($9 & $13 for small bowls). But, we do understand location affects price so this is understandable. Overall, I recommend!
This Mexican restaurant boasts an amazing vibe where the food, while delicious, almost becomes secondary to the experience. The outdoor seating by the River Walk offers a scenic view that instantly puts you in a celebratory mood. They serve a range of amazing drinks that complement the delicious food. However don’t expect authentic Mexican cuisine. Located very close to the newly developed Creamery, the restaurant also benefits from easy street parking.
Food service took over an hour not real busy either. Food was OK drinks were better service poor and they add a tip on your bill so they get paid no matter how scrappy the service. Would not recommend outside taking pictures
Location is well placed for events and to grab some great Mexican food and drinks quickly with a great atmosphere around the river walk. The food was great, I didn't get to try any specialty drinks, but I heard great things for other customers will try when I return. Service could have been better, but overall, there was nothing to complain about during lunch in the middle of the week.
Accommodating and nice 😏 We went during lunch on a weekday, wasn’t busy and had no wait. Waitress was very nice and welcoming. Our order was miscommunicated but she helped solve it quickly, hence losing a star. Also because the kitchen is exposed to the dining room…it was a little loud because of it. Pretty authentic and tasty food, Bloody Mary was average, maybe order a margarita when you go. The outside looked really great but 100+ degree days are rough for outdoor dining. Patio did have mister fans and lots of shade, so under 90 degrees should be good to go outside. I’d love to go again when the weather is nice.
We're visiting from Seattle to San Antonio TX and had a dinner at LA Gloria on Sat around 5pm. There is a pay parking but full. But we found free street parking near by the restaurant. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were seated at a table. Inside the restaurant is a colorful and outdoor patio area available but we sat inside w 6 ppl as it was a cold day. We ordered 3 different of Margaritas and everyone choose Tacos. Mango Margarita is a easy drink and love it. I liked Torre de Mariscos w corn chips. I wanted more flavor to Al Pastor Tacos. I would like to come again
Luis was an excellent bartender. He made a great margarita and recommended other drinks. He really went above and beyond to provide excellent service. Typically, they don’t provide carnitas as a taco option but he insisted the kitchen would accommodate. The food was excellent. But the carnitas could have been a little crispier. The shells were corn and did not get soggy at all. Usually, corn has to be eaten quickly or they fall apart. Not an issue with these shells. The queso, guacamole and smoked green salsa was amazing-full of flavor. I was pleased with the food and service.
No wait time on Sunday night for a party of 10. Great food! (Add the cheese on the mini tacos!). Our waiter (Mario) was patient, kind with super great service! The food took a little long in my opinion But it was definitely worth the wait. Little on the pricey side. We got two margaritas, 1 order of mini tacos & rice, and a order of chips and Queso for the table for $75! But it’s near the pearl and great atmosphere. Definitely park in the parking garage around the corner or the side street in front of the restaurant.
La Gloria at the Pearl..... this restaurant is beautiful. The scenery is romantic, relaxing, fun, soothing and so much more. I loved sitting outside enjoying our food and drinks. The staff was very nice and professional. I’m giving 4 stars because I left feeling not impressed. I honestly feel the ambience of the restaurant surpassed the food. Also the restroom was kind of dirty. A place like this should have a tip-top restroom. Not filthy just needed a little attention. I would definitely come back if for anything just to sit outside with a drink and enjoy the view. Give this place a try if in San Antonio it’s quite beautiful.
Ist, the atmosphere here is amazing. Very cool. We ordered the enchiladas verdes and they were ok. But the presentation which you can see in the pics was amazing. My wife had the bistec tacos and they were also just ok. The service was also very good. Fast, friendly and attentive.
Nice place by the River at Pearl to enjoy. They have a nice patio and outdoor bar with heated pillars in this cold weather. Complementary Chips and Salsa which was amazing. Ordered Al Pastor Tacos and that was good too. This place gets crowded. There’s known for their margaritas but I just had the draft beer. Overall a good place.
The outdoor area is as attractive and enjoyable as the interior is unappealing. The music selection is great. We waited in line for about an hour on a Friday night around 8 PM, but the waitstaff were attentive and quick, making the wait more bearable. The only downside is that the food wasn’t very impressive. This place is ideal for enjoying drinks in a beautiful setting, but it shouldn’t be the first choice for those wanting to experience authentic Mexican cuisine.
Beautiful outdoor seating. Drinks were great. Food was ok. The entire Pearl area was super nice.
Went for a birthday dinner with a party of 20. There was only a 30min wait! San Antonio can get pretty cold in January, so while the restaurant prepared our seating, we hung outside next to the patio…
Came here just for a few drinks with friends. Our server "Jelly" was so sweet. Knew exactly what the drink menu was all about and was amazing. Not too expensive, wasn't loud, was great!

Very pedestrian Mexican food for this area. There was no special flavor to any of the food. Salsa was OK. chips were just that, very small chips making dipping virtually impossible. We all did ag…
Pretty solid mid range Mexican food. Friendly staff. Decent sized drink menu. Really enjoyed the salsa they had with the salsa and chips.
I was totally confused by the menu, and not super impressed with the vibe or system on the interior. Restroom was filthy, hostess was rude and lacked hospitality. She saw us walking in, did not greet us, just counted us and walked off and then came back 5-6 minutes later and said, follow me. We sat down, and asked the waiter to review the menu with us. He was very kind and went over each and every menu item. However, he never offered us chips or salsa or an appetizer, as I'm accustom to. I did notice other tables with chips. The traditional queso is very basic .. just melted cheese, the tortillas that were served with the queso were okay. The elote was great! Rice was bland, and the beans were pretty good! Overall, was not my favorite Mexican cuisine so I'm disappointed especially with it being at the Pearl, but apparently this seems to be a better drink spot, than eatery.
The location was nice but it was a little warm inside for my liking. The pina colada was amazing. The food was ok. The corn was yummy but I was not super impressed with the food. Maybe it just wasn't my style but even the kids didn't finish their chicken wrap. The chips and guac were good. Just maybe not my kind of food.
The food was fine. The menu was unique. I liked the Tacos al Pastor without onions, but they were pretty plain and don't come with anything on the side. You should order something to go with them like guac or beans (see pic). The chips and salsa weren't enjoyable. Even though the chips had a good light crispiness to them, they were overcooked, and the salsa needed more tomato base in it. The vegetarian tostada was small for $6 and looked like it was mostly iceberg lettuce. If you like mayonnaise, the elote (corn on the cob) looked unique. The enchiladas verdes de queso looked like it was all sauce for $14, but I didn't taste it. The margaritas were good and not weak, but nothing special. The location is nice, next to the river, but we were seated at a table where we couldn't see the river; so ask for a table with a view. The patio had an enjoyable atmosphere and was nicely decorated. Our waiter was a little weird (thought he was funny when he wasn't and we felt like we had to laugh at him), but the manager was really nice. It was hard to find a Mexican restaurant with a river view and good reviews that wasn’t overpriced! I would probably come here again for that reason, but I would bring my own chips and salsa.
Food is average. Nothing spectacular. The queso is pretty good. We had a planned party of 20 plus people and they should have dedicated more than one person for service so it was slow getting refills snd ordering.
The first time I went here it was just okay. This is the second time that I visited and the fish was bland, the molcajete was good but needed some sides to go with it and a little bit more flavoring. The ceviche was very good in the drink was average. If I were to go here again I would just get the ceviche. The salsa is not chunky and thin yet had a good amount of spice to it.
La Gloria is a nice place. Good atmosphere. Show up early, or later than normal dinner time as it tends to get packed and parking is hard to find. Service was very good. Staff is friendly. The food was ok. It's not my cup of tea. It may have been an off day, but I felt there was very little flavor to any of the food I tried.
I visited here for the first time recently during a visit to town. I was with a group of seven. The vibe is nice and inviting. The staff was very friendly. We ordered a variety of things: Oaxaqueñas, device, al pastor tacos, bistec tacos, guacamole, chile con queso, refried black beans, and cocktails - house marg, ranch water, flavored margs, paloma, mojito. Everything was hit or miss. Nothing was terrible but everything - drinks included - was either REALLY good or just okay. For us, what made something really good was having it be flavorful. For example, the charbroiled beans and guacamole needed more flavor. We added lime and they both tasted much better. The Oaxaqueñas was so flavorful and delicious. So was the device. The meat on the bistec tacos was dry but the tacos didn't taste bad. I'd come back and try a few more things on the menu, to have a solid line up of regular choices. The prices were fine. We were there during happy hour, so most drinks were reasonably priced.
The kiddos and I really liked the vibe of this place. First of all, it has good parking where a lot of the other locations does not have good parking. Secondly, it has both indoor and outdoor spaces that are very artistic and there is lots to look at. Very child friendly. The negative is the absolute tiniest portion sizes at a premium price. We are still in Texas and not in Europe. We had five people and ordered seven entrees and all left hungry (three of these were kids under the age of 12). The dessert was the funniest. The picture does not really do it justice. It was about the size of a deck of cards and they charged $10. Even though the place was cute and the food tasted pretty good, I can't overcome the feeling of being underwhelmed with portion size and overwhelmed by cost.
server was not as attentive as he could be, but we weren't in a rush. Posole verde was absolutely delicious, I wanted to ask for a second bowl. Rice was pretty good too. Margaritas were tasty and n…

The food was fine. The menu was unique. I liked the tacos al pastor without onions, but they were pretty plain and don't come with anything on the side. You should order something to go with them…
Great scenery but overpriced food and subpar service. The location and atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice as it was next to a creek and had a lot of nice decor. The food was not seasoned and our orders were given to us incorrectly multiple times. The food was okay but VERY expensive for what it was. Looks like a nice place but won’t be coming back.
Chips are very hard to eat. Super over cook and the salsa is really hot where no one except for me could enjoy it. And even me likely got food found it a bit over bearing. Tables are wobbly with little room to eat on. My alcohol drink was ok. So they really didn’t have anything I’m normally eat so when with beef tacos. The beef was Very dry and not that great. I have had better in Utah. Supposedly this is authentic Mexican food..”. I’m not convinced this is good. Very noisy inside as well. Customer service was great, but this is just not my type of place, my girlfriend like it though.
I ordered the Bistec Tacos and they weren't very tasteful. The corn on the cob was pretty good tho. Definitely wouldn't come back, but it's super dog friendly and there was a super cute black poodle and she had a bow and she was so friendly!!!!!! If you want some good Tex Mex food do not go here go to El Tequila across from John Jay.
I recently visited this Mexican restaurant hoping for an enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, the food was overpriced, and the staff got our order wrong multiple times, leading to frustration and disappointment. The one redeeming aspect of the restaurant was its atmosphere, which was pleasant and inviting. However, the overall experience was tainted by the poor service and unimpressive food. It's crucial for restaurants to prioritize both food quality and customer service. Sadly, this establishment fell short in these areas.
We’ve been here for 17 mins with no acknowledgment. Hostess sat us & nobody has show up to even take a drink order. Guess we are leaving. Seems like it could be a good place.
The drinks were delicious, and the food was okay. I went for a birthday dinner, but once it came time to pay, the waitress was supposed to bring back change but shorted me by $20. Make sure to check your receipts and your change. I would recommend this place for drinks only.
Mexicans don't eat here. Locals don't eat here unless they want very Americanized Tex-Mex. It's not a tourist trap but it's very business meeting, out of town family visiting, white washed Tex-Mex. The enchiladas are okay at best. The ingredients on the menu are toppings not fillings - and I tried 3 different ones. So if you get the veggie enchiladas then expect a cheese enchilada topped with everything else. The chips and salsa are both okay at best. For the price you can do way better. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.

The staff acted robotic, like they were just going through the motions. Customer service wasn’t good. they seemed annoyed to serve you. I don’t know when it became acceptable for waiters to rush guests, judge your drink preferences, or look bothered by simple requests. Thankfully, I had great company at my table, and that made the night worth it. But I won’t be coming back.
Horrible service and the food wasn’t good at all. I ordered a quesadilla, a drink, and a side of sour cream, and it came out to $20 — definitely not worth it. The food was super greasy, and the salsa tasted like straight-up water. I also ordered guacamole, and there was a big piece of avocado peel in it… had them take that off real quick. The waitress took forever to come by our table — we waited a hot minute, and she only came around like twice. Overall, not worth the money. I won’t be coming back here again.
This is the kind of place that will charge you $10 for guacamole and not tell you anywhere on the menu that you're being charged $10 for guac. To top of my experience, that I'm convinced I won't be returning, is that my party saw our server a total of one time in which he took our order, to never return. Another waitress brought the ordered food, no one ever came to refill our drinks, (which, we had to flag another waitress for water.) and then we had to physically leave the table to try find someone to figure out where to pay, only for that server to hunt down our original server, for him to bill us. Considering the guacamole did not have gold flakes and we are not in a recorded avocado recession, the $10 charge was unnecessary; and the service was extraordinarily frustrating.
Disappointed with our experience. We ordered a second round of the same margaritas (not house), and after a long wait they arrived tasting completely different and missing the fresh fruit from the first round. We let our waitress, Emily, know, and she said the bar made them correctly but offered to comp them since we were short on time and couldn’t wait for remakes. After we paid our bill and left a 20% tip, she came back to take the drinks. We said we would just keep them rather than waste them, and her attitude immediately changed. She argued with us about why we’d keep them after saying they were “undrinkable,” then abruptly set the glass down and walked away. The interaction was completely unprofessional and unnecessary.
I’ve eaten here 3 times and that was enough. I’ll say the chips were thick, crispy and tasty. The salsa and food overall lacked flavor and I ate the chips bare. If you’re already at the riverwalk; sure, eat some chips and have a drink and then move on. I feel like the employees at sometime just gave up. The service has been bad every time I’ve been here. I went last summer in the day. It wasn’t busy. I ordered a drink and some Mole. It arrived and I never saw the waitress again. I got the attention of another waitress and never received my drink. I was ready to order more, but it didn’t happen. I went across the street for some amazing Tacos. I was here last week with a group from work. The same bad ghosted service existed. It was Saturday night, not busy. There was a DJ outside. He BLASTED music. It was so loud and incongruent. The obnoxiously loud music just didn’t match the atmosphere. We had to shout to talk. When it was time to pay the individual bills, the waitress conveniently forgot to tell us that the tip was already added due to our party size. My buddy discovered that some of us double tipped. The food wasn’t necessarily bad, it was kid of meh…
They changed my tip, which is ILLEGAL to do. After I called, they did refund me BUT I wrote this review to say that they absolutely did not care that one of their employees did this. It was very disregarded and they tried to tell me that sometimes it looks like certain percentages are crossed out…… yeah, right. Food sucks too — pico de gallo tastes old and they charge you for that if you ask. Tacos with rice and beans, something that I’m shocked can even taste bad because it’s so easy to make, were horrible. I’m allergic to avocado so I had to ask if certain plates included them or not and the waitress I guess wasn’t happy with my allergy. Lol, it’s comical how rude she got after I inquired. I can die if I eat that, I have no choice but to make sure - especially at a Mexican restaurant. However, after their illegal stunt in changing my tip, I am DEFINITELY not going there and suggest you do the same. I can deal with a horrible restaurant when it comes to food, plenty around, but to illegally change the tip and charge me? That sooooooo crosses the line.
Our dining experience commenced with indoor seating, where the temperature was around 78 degrees, slightly warmer than ideal. In retrospect, the Walmart portable air conditioning unit nearby should have indicated that the air conditioning system was malfunctioning. Chef Johnny Hernandez's Mexican recipes did not align with expectations, particularly considering the high prices. The $28 carne guisada in a molcajete was not accompanied by rice or beans, and the rice lacked flavor, with no apparent inclusion of corn or tomato. The charro beans, priced at $8, tasted more like canned pinto beans with pico added, which seemed excessive. While the corn tortillas were not authentic, the flour tortillas were decent. Unfortunately, the bistek was dry and tasted similar to beef jerky. A meal at Taco Jalisco would have been a more cost-effective option, considering the $140 total for dinner.
I don't know where to begin to describe my visit to this awful place. There should be a warning that says "Food INSPIRED BY MEXICAN FOOD," but it still doesn't come close. Everything went wrong from the start. The waiter we had forgot to come back to take our order. I only asked for an extra two minutes to decide what to order, and after 20 minutes, I had to get up from my table to go get him. Once the food was on the table, it got worse. MY COCKTAIL CAMPECHANO had nothing to do with a Mexican cocktail. First of all, tiger's milk(Leche de Tigre) is a type of Peruvian ceviche sauce. The sauce itself seemed like puree. The seafood presentation made it hard to tell what kind of seafood it was because the pieces were so small. My husband ordered a pair of "Quesabirrias" with flavorless cheese, over-seasoned meat, and a super-low-quality flour tortilla. For God's sake, don't they know flour tortillas? The chef should go to northern Mexico to experience the true flavor of Mexican cuisine, especially Sinaloa to learn how to make seafood cocktails. Overall, for me, the place was CULTURAL APPROPIATION because it appeared to be nice, but the main thing that needed to shine was the food, and that wasn't the case. Not even the music matched the restaurant's theme; it seemed like you were in any bar or pub. You go to a restaurant to eat good food; everything else is redundant. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. They really need good food urgently because they are deceiving Americans with bad Mexican food, they are not giving them a good taste.
