I would like to thank Andy for making me feel welcome and comfortable. The beers I had were the Cashmere, which was a hefeweizen. I love Hefeweizen, and this one is pretty good, but there's a slight change that most might not agree with. Another beer I tried was the Dortschlager. This beer I enjoyed slightly more than the Cashmere. This beer has a smoother taste. However, these beers are great products. I had a taste of lil’ schnitz, and it was fried to perfection, not overly breaded and super soft. The main dish was the pastrami sandwich, and the rye bread was perfectly buttery, with a slight crunch on the crust. It was a great meat-to-sauce-to-sauerkraut-to-bread ratio. This is a great place to visit, and it is veteran-owned.
Wonderful place for beer specialists. Service is on point, friendly and fast. We popped in on Sunday noon visit. We sat at the bar but there is plenty of seating, indoor and outdoors. Beer is cold and tasty. We have the pretzel biscuits to accompany our Cashemere Hefeweizen. Biscuits not only had a great presentation but were delicious. Don’t freak out since brewery is in the middle of a neighborhood, odd but in a normal south San Antonio way. Highly recommend if you are looking for a new, great place to enjoy good beer.
Beer is a Craft here! They know how to Brew! I recommend the kielbasa sausage dog with fries. The dog has a great flavor and the toasted pretzel bun rocks! Fries are nice and crunchy with the peal on ends. Other menu items are amazing as well. German Schnitzel is incredible.
I was in town Wednesday February 18-Sunday February 22. I live in Oklahoma City and I'm a huge craft beer advocate and had heard great things about this brewery. My friend and I arrived that Saturday around 2:00 and it was already pretty busy but still plenty of seats to choose from. The weather was great so we opted to sit outside. I ordered My Dad's Pilsner, Dortschlager, and SK8ER Boi. All 3 were delicious so I obviously had to get some to take home. Aside from the beer, I really enjoyed talking to our beertender, Ryan. He was super friendly and upon learning it was our first time there, did what a REAL beertender/bartender should do...discuss their beers, history, etc. I left him and the staff some of our local OKC beer to share later. If I'm ever back in San Antonio, I will for sure head back to Kunstler but this time with an empty stomach so I can try their food!
Super cute brewery, they have good food options and lots of beers to choose from. Takeway options too if you find one you like. Wait staff was great, food came out quickly. Will be back!
San Antonio has a proud German heritage and this pub perfectly represents that image. They serve a multitude of beers, including German imports and German-inspired domestics. German beer is highly regarded in both taste and quality, and this pub does a great job showcasing that high regard. Truly one of the spots to visit in San Antonio to a seek German-inspired experience. But the beer is not the only thing that resembles the authentic German experience; the food also adequately represent the German culture. Staples like the Brautswurst, etc, will give you an authentic taste of German cuisine. There is other competition in the area, but this pub will give you an authentic German experience.
Amazing local brewery. Creative brews, great service, friendly and attentive staff. Excellent food! Not your ordinary pub mix. Get the schnitzel, only available after 4pm. Duck wings are great too! Stouts, porters, browns, and triples are my favorite. Huge selection of beer, about 16 on tap. Great outside beer garden, huge porch, ample inside seating too. On street and lot parking. Both free. Lots of families go here. Very casual spot.
So i don't drink beer, so I'm the only one that doesn't come for the beer. I had Der Eldergeist. Loved it. The food was wonderful. I had the chicken salad sandwich with fries. Excellent. Crisp tasty fries. Large bar seating and plenty of comfortable tables to sit at. Fast service. Great job!!
Our first time here today. I was really excited about having some Spätzle but didn't realize that they only have a brunch menu until 3pm on Sundays. So we went for the Schnitzel Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached. The Jägersauce was made with a touch of wine, I believe. The fries were nice and crispy. It was good. There are definitely some German touches in the Restaurant. When we left, we also saw that they have a nice outdoor area.
We loved everything about Kunstler! We say out in the beautiful backyard which had beautiful landscaping, a playground for our kids, and plenty of shaded tables. Ordering was easy and we received our food quickly. We ordered the large cheese plate, brats, pretzel, and beet salad and all the plates surpassed our expectations. They were all incredibly fresh with great portion sizes. We will definitely be back!
Great little brewery. All the beers were spot on and the kitchen was really delivering some great food at very fair prices. The schnitzel fingers, brat & seared spaetzle were all wonderfully done. I’m not a fan of batter fries, but that’s me. Also the house made pickled veggies were all interesting and balanced the plates out perfectly.
Ambiance: German inspired brewery with a huge outdoor patio area as well as indoor dining restaurant space and bar! This is honestly one of the best breweries in San Antonio! Amazing food and their beer list is incredible. As a wine lover, I highly recommend the Red Wine Supernova Belgian triple! One of the best beers I've ever had in my life. Limited parking onsite as well as street parking. Does get crowded! Dog friendly and kid friendly patio space. Perfect spot for large groups and hanging out with family/friends. Very accommodating service and staff. Highly recommend!
My husband and I have come randomly throughout their years and decided to give it another try last weekend. Surprised on how positive everything has changed as of recent. Came home with a couple of 4 packs and a growler fill. Environment totally different and better now too. Keep up the positive changes! Updated review - a growler full of Texas chainsaw and you didn't massacre us yet 💀best local IPA ever ❤️
This was our second time here and we chose to sit outside. The atmosphere was good except for the flies. Don’t order anything with Parmesan outside because the flies will be on you! Note that if you sit outside there is a large water tank/jug for you bro get your own water, which I don’t mind. The problem was when I asked the waitress for ice, that apparently was asking for too much. All three of us noticed the eye roll I received. The food was good, curry fried chicken and the pork chop. Out of 2 flights of beers we liked 3 of them.
Attended an exceptionally organized Yelp event at Brewing and had the pleasure of sampling a variety of their menu items and beers, which were nothing short of spectacular. Danny, the General Manager, was the epitome of hospitality. His passion for Brewing was palpable, enriching our experience with fascinating backstories about the brewery, its inception, and the vision of its owner. The house salad, while simple, was incredibly delicious and a testament to the kitchen's prowess in elevating straightforward dishes. A standout for me was the goat cheese croquettes - a unique offering that was both surprising and delightful. The tomato and carrot marmalade served as the perfect accompaniment, enhancing the flavors beautifully. However, it was the currywurst that stole the show. Perfectly seasoned, it left an indelible mark on my palate and was a testament to the culinary skill at Brewing. The beer sampling was an adventure in itself. Each beer was a revelation, showcasing meticulous crafting and a deep understanding of flavors. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care goes into their brewing process. After the event concluded, we decided to stay longer to indulge in more of the menu. The duck lollipops caught our eye and did not disappoint – an absolute must-try. The laid-back atmosphere of Brewing, coupled with the aim-to-please attitude of the staff, made our extended stay all the more enjoyable. In summary, my experience at Brewing was exceptional. Thanks to Danny's warmth and the culinary delights served, I left with a full heart and an eager anticipation to return. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food and great beer.
Nice, busy spot. I didn’t stay here long. It was my first walking stop out of three for the night to get a few passport stamps. I got a Duck Lips pale ale which was good. The place was busy and the kitchen looked busy too. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Lots of outdoor seating. Would be a good place to watch sports.
A bit of a hidden gem. Tucked away in a humble community. This place is well worth the search and drive if you are staying downtown. Family friendly. The staff are incredible and accommodating. The food is excellent to say the least. My son said the Sausage and Bacon Potato soup is the best soup he has ever eaten. And he would know, he used to eat soup exclusively for breakfast and lunch! He loved it so much he begged to order a second bowl and then wished we would let him order a growler to go. The beer was great too. If you are from San Antonio and like beer or food you’d be crazy not to become a regular. If you are visiting I would put this on your must go list.

Shawn and everyone that Saturday were so nice and welcoming. She gave us great recommendations. Pretzel with the cheese was very good. We had a flight each. We enjoyed the vibe and the beer.

Great food and drink selection! Definitely recommend for a brunch or afternoon meal. Everyone was really nice and parking was easy.
Tried this place out right before the UTSA game. This is such a relaxed place with good food. Come by and try out this place. Staff was great and prices were reasonable.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of beer. Staff was knowledgeable and able to answer questions and suggest drinks we would like. Food was tasty and good prices

Great food and beer. Friendly service. They’re building a larger bier garden now. I’ll visit it again when I’m in San Antonio.
Nice brewery, great place to be. We had the Thursday special & a tasting flight to share. Friendly waitress. Great atmosphere. When you like beer, go here!

Went a couple of weeks back and didn't have a good time. Rating a 4 and not lower because manager understood what happened and invited us back. Ordered with the QR codes to begin with and first rounds got the the table in a timely manner. By the time we ordered food and another round of drinks is where the problems started. Food took a long time, about 45 min. We got a pretzel , the shrimp roll and a brat. My brat was missing the mustard so I asked the waiter to just bring me a side when he got a chance. 30 minutes and nothing. Kept reminding the waiter and never even received it. Had also ordered another round of drinks and that took about 30 min and I didn't want to wait longer so I went to the bar and surely enough our drinks were right there on the counter. Had to get them ourselves. Bad experience, I didn't even get to eat since I never got my mustard. Needless to say I wasn't asking for a free meal, I just wanted my food as I explained to Andy but I didn't want to end up waiting another 45 minutes. He made it right and invited us back. Hopefully our next visit is way better.
Unique neighborhood brewery serving up a nice variety of craft beer, there were 16 on tap when stopped in. There is an indoor area with some bar seating, a sports area with TVs and pinball games etc... There is also a Beer Garden with lots of room, they had some good live music while I was there on a Sunday afternoon. Service was very good. Overall nice place.
Excellent spot nestled away in a more residential street. Branding, ambience, food, and drinks are all on point. Seating is available indoors and outdoors. Dog-friendly, vegan-friendly, and delicious! My only negatives would be that the price points are bit a higher than your average brewery and the residential street has eyesores like trashed furniture. Other than that, it really is a nice and pleasant environment inside. Oh, and did I mention it was nearly packed on a Monday afternoon! I would definitely return to bring visitors from out of town.

Their space was really great with a great patio. The beers were spot on! We did 2 flights so we were able to try multiple different styles. The Tripel, 👌🏻. I will say, we love traditional German food, have been to Germany and seek out amazing German food in the states. The food was just ok. Not traditional German. We had the jäger schnitzel with potato salad and the spätzle mac for main meal and the pickle plate for an app. Definitely skip the potato salad, it was just a bowl of cold mushed potatoes with no spice/flavor. The spätzle was just ok, basically Mac and cheese. We would definitely recommend for the beer alone.
Let's start with the great: the food was definitely awesome, definitely much better than most pub or brewery food I've ever had. Excellent work on that! The not so good: the beer I tried had a funky flavor from sitting in the lines too long. Didn't seem like the beer was kept fresh. Didn't dare to drink another beer. The so-so: took about 20 minutes for a server to come see us. The place wasn't terribly busy and it didn't seem like they were short staffed. This service experience really did not impress me. Overall a good place but with those major flaws. Definitely some room to improve.
What a fun evening here overall! Alas, there was definitely lost potential. Reasons this place is a winner? Readers will want to come for the ambiance, scrumptious German fare, and crafty drinks (pun intended). Sadly, in glaring contrast was the paltry service we received, as well as some higher than expected prices without the food quality to match. Not a big drinker when it comes to alcohol, but the sips sampled were good. The drink connoisseurs with me, though, did give me their approval and recommendations! They seem to have rotating drinks and specials on tap, as well as wine options. Food was well prepared and ranged from average to excellent. Minor complaints only as far as taste, but some pricing was a little on the expensive side, especially for a gastropub setting, meant to be casual dining. We had the Spaetzle Macaroni and Cheese, not as cheesy as it could be but the spaetzle was tasty. Relatively easy dish done competently! Shrimp Roll on a pretzel bun was fine. Maybe $10 fine, not $18. Pretzel roll was a tad dry, shrimps seemed likewise dry even though they were dipped in a mayonnaise sauce. It came with toasty fries that weren't soggy and had a crisp texture, so that was nice. In contrast, the Schnitzel was impressive, glad the aptly named Künstler knows how to do German cuisine! Lightly breaded, the pork meat was succulent and tender, infused with the orange and their special sauce. Last but not least, The Big Haus from their specials board. Definitely big. But ultimately, really it was a huge pot of cabbage, potatoes, and sauerkraut, with some pork cheek pieces and the 3 large bratwurst. With a large bread roll on the side, nicely toasted. Readers want to know, was it good? The vegetables were roasted in some tasty seasoning and sauces, and the pork cheek pieces, although buried in there, were flavorful. Bottom line, yes, good. But not almost $40 good. Probably would have preferred getting the single bratwurst, on the regular menu, because those were the highlights. Ambiance. One of the few places I can say without much hesitation that outside dining is actually better than inside. The inside was pretty dark, relatively small with open kitchen and a small area displaying Künstler merchandise. Nice to see they try to be involved in the community. There were some brochures out for other local breweries, plus the city's Fiesta celebration medals. Outside includes the large patio as well as the beer garden complete with a playground to distract the children and a stage for live performances! This brings us to the largest disappointment. We walked in and out took almost five minutes before anyone even came to greet us, despite not being extremely busy on a weekday night. Patrons were mostly outside, where you can actually order online through their application. Eventually, we were told we could seat ourselves if we wanted to dine on the patio and that someone would come out shortly with menus. Ten minutes later, had to go in and get menus ourselves. Another five minutes later, someone came out to see whether we had been assisted. Waitress was friendly, took our orders. Drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time. For the food, we had to wait another twenty five minutes for some, almost forty for the rest. My description for the service provided here: cordial, but only the minimum required. Are we return patrons? Although it would be a pity to lose such a great hang out ambiance, as tasty and welcoming gastropub locales are not easy to find, one must consider their expectations. An exemplary dining experience with superior food and drinks, as well as ambiance and service, in a timely manner? Maybe not. A return visit would probably require expecting a mostly selfserve dining experience, perfectly fine for some. To each their own. Prost!

I've was so disappointed with the way the staff treated my family. We were hyped to check this place out. But the way they acted and talked, Forget it. I'll go to McDonalds instead.
