Order Cappucino, Chocolate Scone, it's sooo good!! And love the atmosphere, huge windows, open space, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Ideal spots for meeting and work from home. Did I mention that they sells and display art works from local artist too??
Delightful Sunday after lunch coffee time. A quality Cortado served by a friendly barista. There's a historic turn of the century vibe, almost like we were in a previous carriage house turned coffee house. The grounds are part of an estate and offer an impressive view of downtown San Antonio. The Vintage oak is majestic and just adds a little more magic to the visit. Excellent place to share with friends or a special one. Parking is not an issue whatsoever.
In a nutshell, this is a cozy atmosphere. This isn't fast food with a drive thru, it's a place that will make your day if you have a little time to spare. If you're retired, a student, or have a great work / life balance, you have to put PhilloCoffee on your to-do list. The atmosphere will leave you at ease. The employees are exceptional and the menu items are fantastic. I'm not from San Antonio and I can't wait for our return trip for this experience.
Ordered the chai tea latte and egg, veggie, cheddar croissant. We got two of the same croissants and had to wait a while for the second one because they forgot about it for some reason. Though there was a bit of a wait, the food was still good nonetheless. The cashier was really helpful with recommendations. But not the go-to place if you’re looking to grab something quick ( except maybe the pastries).
I love this place! I came in because I was in between meetings and needed a place to work. It was ideal for working with everyone focused on their writing, art and drawings. They have chill, alternative music. I had the Chai Latte and it was perfect for a busy Thursday afternoon. They have a lovely patio underneath this massive oak tree.
TLDR: coolest, littlest coffeehouse in San Antonio! My friend lived in San Antonio for a few years during her college life, and she told me that Philo Coffee was a staple. I can see why! The ambiance is calm, the coffee is great, and the service was quick and friendly. Definitely the coolest, littlest coffeehouse I've come across! I decided to go with their homemade poptart and a shakealto! Both were great. It felt like every detail here is done with some form of care. Enjoy
This coffee shop is warm, inviting, and cozy. The employees are laid-back and friendly. The coffee selections are what you would expect from a local coffee shop - that, and the baked items are very good. I ordered an Americano with oat milk, it was one of the best I’ve had. If you’re looking to enjoy a hot or iced coffee and a pastry in a cozy spot, come to Philo.
What a great and personable place to enjoy some time with the fam. Stopped in for the first time to grab a quick bite and some coffee. We were immediately greeted and assisted. A gentleman walked us thru the menu and helped us with the order. Instead of a quick bite, we decided on a meal. We found a great place to sit outside in the shade. All of the tables were extremely clean even though they were out side. They had pop up shops that were getting set up behind the restaurant. Every one at the shops were extremely pleasant to interact with. One of the best breakfast croissants I have ever had. And the atmosphere was incredible. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
In town for a conference and wanted to have a slow morning on the last day. This was a wonderful experience. Delicious food and great coffee. It takes a little bit of a wait, so don’t come if you’re in a hurry, but the wait is soooooo worth it. My breakfast croissant sandwich was made fresh. Egg oozing just a little. Perfection.
While vacationing in San Antonio (also grew up here) from the Washington DC region, I decided to stop by this coffee shop to do some work. The coffee beans they use seem to be very good quality judging from the taste of the coffee which is very delectable. The atmosphere is very relaxing and I was able to get a lot of work done with the right amount of coffee. It's right across the street from the main campus of Alamo Community College which is ideal for students. I will definitely return when visiting San Antonio.
Great Coffee, and the Remi was awesome (also my dogs name 🤓) Parfait was excellent, Ham & Cheese croissant was really good… (a little on the higher price side for a sandwich and small fruit, but you kinda know these places charge more these days…) All in all, great experience. Also I have updated menu, prices went up since the last photos on here… 🤙
This coffee shop had a calm feel with inside and covered outside seating. The prices were reasonable. There's a specials/seasonal menu to the left of the cash register so check that for anything new. They have baked goods as well. They were a little busy but very quick. My ham and egg croissant breakfast sandwich came out delicious. It was on a real plate. The drink came in a real glass. I tried the caramel pumpkin latte, which was good. I never felt rushed or bothered. There's a little spot at the door with napkins and such. I visited on a weekday.
We really enjoyed this place, it’s very nice and spacious. The coffee was great and so were the people who helped us. The atmosphere was so calming, a perfect place to read and have a nice conversation.
The coffee shop is cute and the service is amazing. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is bc the ladies room is not wheelchair accessible. Some one with a walker can fit just fine, but not a wheelchair. A really nice place to get some work done.
Latte was delicious. Ambience feels very youthful and relaxing. I liked the green couch with orange throw pillows but I was too shy to sit on it and be a bit more comfortable. Good place to meet up with friends or grab a coffee. :)
Drip coffee was very bland and lacked some good flavor. While I understand most coffee shops focus more on lattes, espresso, etc. a drip coffee is universal and should reflect that depth and flavor regardless of how easy it is to make and in expensive it is. Southwest Croissant is solid but found that as I was eating it some of the avocado was already turning. It also overall needs seasoning or something else.
I went this morning with my child and it was not busy only one other customer in the shop. I felt like if she rushed me and didn't want to help me since it was my first time there and I did not feel welcome. The shop was very cute I liked the setup I get better service at Summer Moon , Dutch bros and Starbucks.
Mid-tier coffee at a high personal cost I have been to this shop numerous times since it has open, and it has yet to have impress me at this point. I continue to return to this place in hopes it could be good this time, but that feeling never came. I have two major pain points with this shop: 1. The coffee fails to stand out from the competition. When looking at other coffee shops within a 10 minute drive I often find myself wondering if I want to taste PhiloCoffee today. The last of the base coffee is standard for locally sourced beans, but the way they are utilized is subpar. The best example of their lack of skill is the latte. Many times when I order a latte is has a subdued taste to, almost as if they are not really preparing the beans properly to bring the best out of their roast. If I were to add any additional flavors into the latte, such as vanilla, the addon permeates above the coffee rather than blending with it. The latte art is also amateurish making the latte visually unappealing, and therefore I am reserved to sharing that beverage with others that might want to see what their coffee is like. I would rather them not focus on the latte art and spend the time ensuring the coffee is properly blended to give me a desire to want to order more or come back. 2. The shop's location is detrimental to the experience. When entering Philo, the place gives off a cozy comfy vibe that is supposed to draw you in, but honestly it's like walking into your grandmas house made before 1920. Small, cramped, and messy. As a place that is designed to be sat in, PhiloCoffee lacks much space for anything. A single seat does not allow more than yourself and a laptop, and as a result customers place their other belongings on open seats that could be used for more customers. The tables are narrow, unbalanced, or so low to the ground one cannot comfortably sit there without risking dropping or spilling their order. There is also a lack of visible and clear signage that customers should place their trash in designated areas, and due to this there is trash at open tables that I would not want to risk cleaning myself. There are two to three employees there at any given time; One at the register, one making the coffee, and one doing, uhhhhh, something. When there is period of downtime employees should try and maintain the appearance of the shop rather than standing staring into space. One might suggest I sit outside, but I would ask them to look at what city we live in and the average weather on any given month not ending in -ember. These are relatively easily mendable issues that require management to step-up and critically look at their shop as a customer. I am imploring that management please try and correct one of the two issues. If the time is spent to make one of those aspects great then the other can be overlooked, but as it stands now I cannot recommend this place to anyone. PhiloCoffee has great potential, but is squandering it by being too comfortable with what they have. By taking the initiative to change and grow the shop you can a place that is worth recommending. At this time there are more and more new shops popping up around you, so it would be best to act now before they swallow you whole. 2/5 Stars
