Mr. Fish & Chips

I absolutely hate fish! But not this fish. My Mom dragged me here to try the fish and chips. OMG, the breading batter is absolutely amazing! Every bite melts in your mouth without having a fishy taste. I have since returned a few more times, and recently today with my wife. Every Tuesday, they have $3.⁵⁰ fish tacos. These are literally the best fish tacos ever! Sorry, Rubios. I ordered two, but I was plenty full from eating one. And to top everything off, they have a STUBBORN SODA machine with my favorite fountain drink, Pineapple Cream soda. The staff is very nice and accommodating and the store was very clean with plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Parking is always available in the massive shared parking lot. California Fish Grill is definitely one of my new favorite eateries here in San Diego. I wish there was a location closer to my home in Pacific Beach. Hands down, a 5 star rating from me!

Little establishment wasn't sure what to expect but overall it was amazing fish fluffy cod cooked perfectly shrimp also was great. Customer service was awesome. Great place to eat passing thru california. Take out but they do have table settings outside.

We have been going here for 15 years. Consistently good. Sam is the owner and heart of the operation. His son Sebastian would help out. Very friendly, local place with indoor and outdoor tables. He has fish and chips as well as fried zucchini and fried shrimp. The Cole slaw is good, sweet I think with pineapple?

I was so happy to finally catch this place open on this day. I am so glad I did. After months of missing Mr. Fish bring open, I lucked out. Ordered the 2pc fish and chips. And 5 jumbo shrimp. Oooohhh, let me tell you, I was in YUMMO heaven!! The Shrimp cooked perfectly! Yum! The fish and chips, let me tell you. Breaded perfectly. You can taste the light flakiness of the fish. So good. Thank you for being open that day! Valentine's Day! Yes, you should go, when you can catch it open. I can't wait to go back! I highly recommend Mr. Fish for your eating pleasure!

We stopped by on a Thursday evening after badminton with a group. It was amazing. I don’t eat a lot of fried food, but this didn’t taste heavy like most fried food. The fish tasted fresh. They had fried zucchini which was a really nice addition.

I have been a customer for years. Sam is an incredible individual with customer satisfaction a #1. Reasonably priced and nice portions. Various ways to enjoy fish, shrimp (different sized), fried zucchini, chicken strips, etc. Told a coworker about Mr. Fish and Chips. He stopped in with his wife. No complaints at all. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The breading they use is great, like tempura style almost which is interesting to me because it's lighter and not as bready as other fish and chip shops. Since the breading is lighter you really get the nice flakiness of the fish, and so far it's never tasted or smelled fishy to me, always fresh and appropriately firm. Also, I think they've got the best onion rings I've ever had but unfortunately they're not always on the menu. The owner's customer service is also great. Definitely a place I always have on my radar for good takeout food.

The closest thing to perfection. The entire order was clean. Fresh, hot, crunchy, crispy, tasty, yummy, flavorful and well packaged. The cardboard box they use is plain and simple. Sam is awesome. I'll be returning many, many times. Cheers!

My first time here. My wife used to go here when she was young and her first time back. She said the inside changed but the food was the same. I was pleasantly surprised!! Got the Mr fish combo! This fish was the best fish I've had like this! Flakey, crispy, sweet, great with lemon and the fresh tartar sauce was yum! The fries were perfect. Cole slaw was on the soggy side for my taste. The guy had excellent customer service! I saw him give a to go order to someone before they even walked inside! He was so nice... The drive was worth it. Will be back! Thank you.

Wonderful fish and chips! We are visiting from Arizona,so happy we came to this spot to enjoy fish and chips! The portions were plenty. We were so full! The owner was the best and so so kind! You took such good care of us and made sure we had everything we needed!

Fish and chips taste of this restaurant is the best in my life!!! They use the fresh oil for everyday. My 4years old son is very picky and he doesn’t really eat if it’s not good BUT he ate A LOT of fish and chips in this restaurant‼️‼️It was amazing!! Crispy coating surface and juicy inside. It was perfect. I ate fish, shrimp, zucchini, scalp, chicken, and chips . All of them are soooooooo good😋 I really recommend this place. All of their orders are prepared take away (to-go containers), but there is limited seating inside and a couple of patio tables outside.

Reliably good neighborhood fish and chips shop with a friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Their fried fish is very tender, has a light coating, and is always made to order. The best way to enjoy it is to eat it there, at the few tables in front of the shop, as their ventilation system is often not effective inside the small sitting area inside.

The fish and shrimp seemed to be good quality and not overly greasy like other places (Fish was sideways not showing their full size). They also provided plenty of condiments (2 each). The packaging was also nice. I appreciated the paper instead of styrofoam and limited plastic. The box was fairly large and was probably the same size as a box of a dozen donuts. I don't think the restroom were open but I like that they provided the wet wipes. It's a good alternative for washing hands. He was also generous and kind, adding an extra piece for us. It's an easy going environment, we recommend coming here and will be coming back!

Hidden gem executes a classic flawlessly. The dining room is no-frills; note that it's too small to have a public restroom. Definitely some of the best fish and chips you'll get in San Diego. Easy to believe that they've been rolling for 50+ years, mind-boggling that they aren't more widely known.

Great food, cooked to perfection. Bottom of the strips were as crispy and flaky as the tops. Uniform deep fry is what you look for when its around high quality sea food. Service is excellent. First time or hundredth he treats you like family.

We have driven past this place a few times and were glad we stopped by. The owner is so kind and we loved the fried fish and shrimp. Their popcorn shrimp was our favorite!

I think this is the best fish and chips place in town, I asked for slightly crispy chips, and the were perfect. The owner/operator is a great guy, very personable, will definitely return.

It was pretty decent. The batter is a bit on the plain side and slightly tastes like oil but the fish itself was tasty. I would still go back again.

This is a great spot to get fish and chips at a great price. The seating area was good. They had music playing in the background. The staff was extremely friendly and was very helpful when I asked for more sauce for my fish. The only reason I can't give this location 5 out of five stars is because of my seat. The seats are not that comfortable especially for those of us that have back problems. But if you don't have that problem then I say this is definitely a family-friendly place and they have some really great food.

Mister Fish & Chips caters to our deep craving, simple. (We were on vacation in a beach city. That was reason enough for my daughter to need fish and chips. Obviously that is not a necessary condition.) And it does the job elegantly. It is nine miles away from downtown San Diego where we stayed, situated in a busy shopping center. The small joint leaves an impression when you enter because of its simple, but strongly themed wall decor: a narrow stripe of seat-level stylised silhouettes expressing this simple slogan: "I love London" - which is part of the stripe. The furnitures are equally simple. But the surface of the tables are embedded with seashells. Food, by this I mean fish and chips, is well prepared, although fish is not the best kind. (Well, they do not say what fish, nor give you a choice thereof.) The tartar sauce is one of the best, so is the coleslaw. Overall, this is a great meal for the money. By this I mean they are labeled as "cheap eat" on some travel sites. Money-wise it is so. But food-wise it is quite rich.

Very busy right at lunch time. Food is made to order so be prepared to wait about 15-20 minutes. Huge delicious whole cod filets, perfectly battered and crispy with big steak fries. We also got the clam strips and scallops which were both delicious. Don't waste your time with the onion rings - the thinnest ring of onion in five times as much batter. They look pretty but you're just eating fried batter and the onion is almost undetectable. They were out of oysters the day we went. Apparently, they also have fried mushrooms occasionally which is not on the menu - you need to ask for those - but they were out of those too when we went. The customer service was great. Nice couple. Simple atmosphere.
