I had a wonderful experience at San Idli. The lunch menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a perfect balance of variety, flavor, and authenticity. Every dish tasted fresh and comforting, just like a traditional home-style meal. A special mention goes to their Sambar Idli absolutely outstanding. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and perfectly steamed, soaking up the rich, aromatic sambar beautifully. The sambar itself was full of flavor, well-seasoned, and had that authentic taste that truly stands out. The quality, consistency, and attention to detail make this place a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good South Indian food. Highly recommended easily a 5-star experience!

Great food and excellent service! The South Indian dishes were delicious, and the North Indian options were just as impressive. The owners were very friendly and welcoming as well. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience.

Went here for dinner last week after hearing a few good things, and overall it was a pretty solid experience. The place had a relaxed vibe and didn’t feel rushed, which I liked. We ordered a mix of curries and naan, and most of the flavors were on point, especially the butter chicken. Spice level was just right, not over the top. Service was friendly, though a little slow when it got busy, but nothing too annoying. Portions were decent for the price.

San Idli is one of the best Indian restaurants in San Diego. The food was very tasty and delicious !!!. The staff is very polite and friendly. Service was excellent and it was very quick. The atmosphere and ambience is very good. We loved the South Indian food. Loved the quality of food. Overall, it was an amazing experience for me and my family ! It is a must visit place for Indian food.

If you come across this review, you should definitely try this place! Kudos to the chef and team. We visited San Idli Vegetarian Restaurant in San Diego twice during our trip from the Bay Area, and both experiences were absolutely outstanding. We’ve tried so many vegetarian thalis all around the Bay Area, but this place truly stands out. We came for lunch the day before New Year and ordered the spl thali — it had around 12–14 items, and every single one of them was delicious. The flavors were unique, authentic, and perfectly balanced. The payasam was outstanding, and the sambar was incredibly tasty. The chilled morekolambu had its unique tangy taste. Honestly, I could go on and on describing each item because everything was exceptional. The service was top-notch as well. Sai and Christy took great care of us both times. The lady at the counter also greeted before we ordered. The food arrived within 5–10 minutes of ordering, the restrooms were clean, and there was no big wait time, even during a busy week. On a previous visit, I also tried the gobi manchurian , and it was amazing. We didn’t have space left in our stomachs this time to try the dosa, but that’s definitely on our list for the next visit! Overall, San Idli Vegetarian Restaurant has become one of our favorite finds in San Diego. Highly recommended! FYI - they have one outdoor table- we were able to sit there with our dog.

Amazing restaurant with generous portions and reasonably priced for CA. The food tasted as close to home as possible and the service was fast and efficient. We went there twice in 3 days and tried bunch of different options like parotta, chole poori , idly and dosa . Everything tasted great. Can't wait to visit next time we visit SD. Hope they open a franchise in New England area soon.

This was my first time having lunch at San Idli, and the food was amazing—truly authentic Indian flavors. I often try Indian food in Phoenix, but it hasn’t been very satisfying. I’m so happy that we finally have genuine South Indian food in town. Hats off to the staff as well; they were incredibly friendly, and the service was outstanding. I’m already looking forward to my next meal there.

This is the place If you are looking for authentic South Indian food. Everything is super fresh and the prices are great. The coconut chutney is spot-on and the sambar tastes just like the tiffin centers back in India. The service is great. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. Do not miss their thali, for under $20, you get a generous spread of dishes that lets you taste a little bit of everything. It’s hearty, satisfying, and a good value. Definitely coming back again when we travel to San Diego.

As a serious dosa enthusiast coming from the Bay Area—a place known for having some of the most incredible South Indian restaurants in the country—I have high standards. I can confidently say that the dosa here at San Idli might be the absolute best I’ve ever tasted. It hits all the right notes: the batter is perfectly fermented, giving it that wonderful light tang, and the cook is impeccable. It comes out thin, golden, and shatteringly crispy, holding its texture throughout the meal. The chutneys and sambar were fresh and flavorful, perfectly complementing the main dish. If you are a dosa purist, you simply must come here. This place is a gem, and it deserves all the recognition for serving up world-class, authentic South Indian cuisine. A must-try!
