An authentic British afternoon tea room experience. From its cozy timeless foyer furniture to the gift shop you will feel as if you have crossed the pond for a sip and savor experience. The staff is well trained and very attentive. Single clients get the same service as large parties. The quality of the food is top notch! Many many tea flavors to choose from. They have a large free parking lot and there is some free street parking too. I think it is a must do afternoon culinary experience!
Delicious fare, huge assortment of amazing teas, lovely and nerdy English-cottagecore ambiance. Fans of Dr. Who, Alice in Wonderland, Agatha Christie, Harry Potter, etc. Will love this vibe mixed with flowers and doilies... and did I mention the food and tea was amazing??! Be sure to check out the gift shop with hairy coos (highland cows), hedgehogs, mushrooms, Harry Potter memorabilia, and any accessory you could want to host your own tea party, such as tea pots, creamers, steepers, spoons, decor, aprons, etc.... including a selection of teas, jams, and curds. Brought my kiddo here for the 17th birthday, and everything was perfect, and everyone was so nice! We will be back!
What an indulgent lunch spot! Come hungry and ready for tea. There are so many different teas to choose from on the tea menu: black, green, white, herbal, iced, you name it! The names of the teas are very cute and creative. The tea pots are quite large but you are allowed to ask for another type of tea if you want to try another. Don’t be deceived by the size of the sandwiches and treats; altogether they are very filling! The menu is set so you don’t get to/have to choose what to eat, just what to drink. So much fun to come with family, friends, or on a date. Worth the high price if you’re a tea lover! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bathrooms are clean and themed :)
UPDATE 3/30/25 I made reservations online and told them about the special occasion we were celebrating. There are vegetarian options also. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. The staff came out with a lit tiny cupcake and sang happy birthday. Roman (pictures) was our server. We came early and should have looked at their extensive tea list. Each of us picked a different tea so we could try them. One friend got a green tea, I got the French vanilla black tea, and the other friend got white ginger mango tea. They were all fun to try. Then we tried the mimosas with the rose, pomegranate orange, orange, and hibiscus. We liked them in that order. If I got it again, I'd get the mango or plain prosecco. They were served with edible mini daisies. The stew with the tiny leaf croissant was lovely. It would have been even better with a thicker broth and a softer ground beef. The veggies were perfect. Then the tiered plate came out with the vegetarian goodies on top, separated. The sandwiches, sausage roll, and open faced toast with egg salad on it was amazing. We loved the ham sandwich with the pickle spread. The cucumber sandwich was melt in your mouth. Our favorite was the chicken salad sandwich. The dragon cheese and mustard open faced sandwich was interesting, we liked everything. Our raisen scone that was delicious. The cream, lemon curd, and strawberry and rhubarb jam was divine. Strawberries, blackberries, and grapes were also served with it. Finally, we had a banana dessert (unfortunately two folks had hair in theirs), a lemon cupcake and a cardamom shortbread with chocolate on it. We were stuffed and saw that some people were taking to go containers. I regret not bringing home some scones. The bathroom was clean and had about three stalls. There was only an air dryer. Lots of free parking available. We can't wait to come again! Last time: The door said that they close at 4 pm, but that means only seating. I got there about 4:30 PM and am glad I walked in. The young dark haired woman (from the south of the USA, Anika) was so helpful and gave me a menu pamphlet for future month menus. She told me about the upcoming Agatha Christie murder mystery which will be in mid April. The place had a fun vibe and was clean. They have goodies to buy at the front and in the back there is a little store. My workmate loves tea and cats and they had some tea towels, mugs, and a variety of teas. It was fun shopping! The only thing missing were the English chocolates and toffees that would have been fun to include in the gift. The saleswoman explained that they have them at their other shop. I think they would be a hit here! I was scouting it out for a girl's birthday tea and it looks like it will be a great place to try. I especially was impressed with the way they greeted me when I entered, gave recommendations, and we're not too busy with closing to offer more information. I bought a sausage roll and a different grandma's savory pie. I can't wait to try them. I wish they would have had some hot to order like they do at their other location. We are excited to come back. There is parking, tight spots, but plenty. It's on a corner so getting there may mean a Uturn.
First time at a tea party, and it was fantastic! We enjoyed afternoon tea with an Alice in Wonderland theme. We all dressed up as different characters, and there were even games and trivia. The food was also themed and delicious. We had two young girls in our party and they provided kid friendly eats for them too. I recommend this experience!
To kick off my birthday month every year (2 years in a row now) my daughter and I start with afternoon tea. Firstly, we liked the new location as it had plenty of parking. We also loved the insta worthy decor and how private it felt despite being near another table. They have quite an extensive list of teas, but we have tried London Town Fog, Cherry Sencha and Creamy Earl Grey. The teas didn’t disappoint; they were amazingly flavorful. My daughter received the child menu while I had the regular menu. They were for the most part the same with the exception of 2-3 items. We thought the food was good, but it wasn’t overly fancy or spectacular. My favorite bites were the cucumber salad, spinach & cheese pastry and gooseberry wine syllabub. My daughter really enjoyed her jelly sandwiches, fresh fruits, sugar cookie and scones with lemon curd. One of the dishes, the quiche, was not on our serving tray and we were told it was being heated in the oven which was fine. However, when the quiche arrived it was cold like it never made it to the oven. Everything else though, was on point that the quiche didn’t impact my opinion in a negative way. I paid about $120+ with tip. Overall, the experience was unique and fun. It was a wonderful way to spend quality time with my daughter. She and I agreed that afternoon tea is now a once a month tradition.
Scones are amazing. I've been here several times for cream tea, high tea, and special afternoon teas. Parking can be a little challenging on busy days, but there's also street parking. Cute front waiting room. It's a big place, so there is a good chance of getting reservations. Cute shop in the back. Love the picture wall.
It was such a great way to have afternoon tea. They were even able to create a vegan collection of treats! You will have to place a reservation ahead of time to prep your sweet & savory treats, but also if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, you can see what they can do for you on their website. The website was a breeze to set reservations and it was very straightforward to let them know about your allergies. Everything we had was top-notch and delicious. We didn't feel rushed at all. It was very relaxing and beautiful. The folks working were so lovely and super helpful with the vast tea selection. If you are ever in the San Diego area, you got to experience afternoon tea! They even have themed tea time! Check out their website for more details ❤️
So charming! My husband and I were initially on the wait list and were fortunate enough to make the 11am afternoon tea on a Saturday. We were seated promptly and had the menu and teas clearly explained to us by our servers. Be prepared, because there's A LOT of tea to choose from! The room and table were clean with pretty decorations and small whimsical elements for fun. The presentation of our food and tea was our favorite part of the experience and were delighted to be fully accommodated with vegan and regular menu items! Everything was delicious! We especially loved how intimate the setting was. We visited London last year and experienced afternoon tea there, and while that was an entertaining experience in itself, we felt this afternoon tea was a bit more traditional albeit with lighthearted sophistication. We also appreciated the quieter atmosphere and slower pace Britannia Tearooms was able to offer to fully enjoy our time. We didn't feel rushed and our servers were attentive and sweet. The menus are seasonal and we're hoping to return for the Christmas tea to see what's in store for the holidays! If you're not planning a trip to the UK in the near future, we absolutely recommend Britannia Tearooms! We look forward to visiting again very soon! Also want to give Elysia a big thank you for all her help in taking the time to explain the menu options for vegans and helping us get on the wait list!
If you're looking for a good tea experience in San Diego, I strongly recommend this place! The tea is high quali-tea. See what I did there? lol. On a serious, the tea is delightful. The entire restaurant has the best spots for photo ops with cute backdrops. There's even a gift shop located inside. As well as a private room that is decorated from time to time with a different theme. Service was great. All the employees are extremely friendly and welcoming. The tea experience is timed. I believe you have the table for two hours. Kids under four years old are not allowed. My best friend and I absolutely love the fine China and pastries that came with the tea experience . Our favorite tea was the creamy earl grey. We also enjoyed the tomato basil soup. Wow. I'll never forget it! I'm looking forward to taking my daughter here when she's old enough!
My favorite English tea place in San Diego (Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe) opened up a larger tea restaurant in Point Loma. I believe it used to be an old diner. They did a great job decorating the place with a cute little parlor in the entrance. The women's restroom has a fun Harry Potter theme. The food is always so good. I love their Scottish Carmel Pu-er tea. Everyone gets a pot of tea to themselves so it's fun to try different teas at the table. Fixed price menu. Call ahead if there are any dietary restrictions. We had a lady who was gluten free in our group so they had food prepared for her. The potato leek soup came out first and it was delicious. The tower of sandwiches, sausage rolls, and scones came out next, following last with desserts. All were delicious.
Delightful venue for high tea. The menu features 65 teas, including black, white, green and herbal. The three we tried were incredibly flavorful were unique combinations of aromatics and fruit flavors. The food was superb and plentiful. Our starter was a savory pastry with beef and potatoes. Then they bring out a three-tiered plating of savory and sweet treats including traditional cucumber sandwiches, spanakopita, petite pork rolls, scones, and dessert cakes. The food was excellently prepared with fresh, bright flavors. The egg salad finger sandwiches are the best in town with firm eggs and just enough mayo to hold it together, enhanced with herbs. Definitely not the gloppy mess you get at most San Diego sandwich shops. Service was top notch. And you will definitely not leave hungry. A truly pleasant dining experience.
Had a very pleasant tea party there for my birthday. They have a gf menu option, but advanced reservations are required for all tea service. I appreciated the Harry Potter easter eggs around the venue. P.s. the men's and women's restrooms have different decor. Last i heard, Moaning Myrtle was haunting the boys room.
The Britannia Tearooms was a great find for tea & high tea goodies, no so much on parking, although there is free parking in the lot across the street. The sweet & savory menu items of the Harry Potter themed high tea were cleverly named, for example... Hagrid's Stoat with Mandrake Leaves & Thatral-Radish Aoli with Professor Slughorn (sandwich), Aragog's Fly Cemetery Cake with Spider Web (pastry shell filled with black currants), Harry's Butter Beer Tea (tastes best with cream & sugar). The dining area a to was also cleverly decorated. The chocolate covered sorting hat sorted each table into one of the wizarding houses; ours was maroon... so Gryffindor! The food was deceivingly filling! Recommend for next themed tea event.

So glad I found this place! We were able to walk in and get tea service since they weren't busy. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The teas are amazing! It has a calm and cozy atmosphere with cute decor and gift shop. We didn't have any food but can't wait to try it. Definitely going to make this a regular spot.

Britannia Tea Room A truly beautiful experience. Each of us received our own teapot, which made it feel very personal and special, with a full and thoughtfully curated tea menu. A beautiful tier with delicious tea sandwiches and savory bites completed the experience. A lovely atmosphere and a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing and memorable afternoon tea.

We booked a long table for seven people at The Britannia Tearooms that has been around since 2000, which is now 25 years old. The menu changes with the seasons. We paid a total of 500 US dollars, which is about 72 dollars per person. The afternoon tea set included a variety of items such as salads, savory snacks, fruits, and desserts. Each person could choose their favorite tea. The table was beautifully decorated in a very British style, making it hard to resist taking pictures. There was a chessboard on the ceiling and a picture of Alice in Wonderland hitting her head on the ceiling. The bathroom was also full of details, which made it feel like someone was watching you while you were using the toilet, which was a bit strange. Overall, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience to come here with friends for a casual get-together.
It was cute inside, the employees for the most part were helpful and kind. We did go later, so they may have just been ready to get out and go home; I wouldn’t blame them. ( Positives ) - themed teas, not a bad price. - attentive to allergies - food was ok, I had my favorites, so the options presented to you was nice. ( Negatives ) - location - only given water at the beginning - variety of deserts - feeling rushed out
My first experience at a tea room. I had zero expectations and I liked it. As a guy I felt the portions were small and it was very expensive. Looking back though, it was a good experience, I loved the tea variety that was presented to me. Probably some of the best tea I had. EVER. Overall, I had fun and look forward to having another tea room experience.
This was great, my daughter and I are big tea party girls. It's one of the best ones for the dollar and atmosphere.
Went here with my mum who is vegan and she got her own special vegan course (you have to inform them when you book your appointment) and she loved it. The regular course was delicious and their tea was flavorful just like the other shakespear tea rooms. However, the seating is extremely cramped in the room(mad hatter room) we were in🫤 it was hard to talk because it was also very loud due to how cramped it was, so I would avoid that room for people who are socially anxious.

There were nice decorations and surprises and an incredible selection of tea and friendly service. It's just the food wasn't that good. The scone was dense and the clotted cream not light and the sandwiches were just ok.
