Great food. It's a bit pricey. I dined by myself though so it may be more economic if your with a group. This is supposed to be family style where you split huge portions. The food is excellent though. Vegitables were perfect. Capers were a great touch. Salty and savory. The wine selection was decent. Many to choose from. If you're feeling Italian, I definately recommend it unless you're scarred of flavor... then go to olive garden. I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is a bit cali Fridays though. Lots of junk memorabilia laying around, but it's all Hollywood esq. Gives a tacky fun atmosphere but not super cheap. Just local fun. Good place to take the familly. Okay for a date too. I would go with someone you want to share food with though, but if you have to, you can go alone like me. They were nice enough to cut it down to a half portion. Good people.
I had a large group of 28. And I had one server that handled it like a BOSS! It was 3/28 i think her name was Jessie! She gave me and my students AMAZING SERVICE!! She was very attentive to our table. The food came out in a timely manner. Drinks, salads, pasta and chicken parm and dessert. With the 28 hungry kids, her Co workers helped out appropriately. The food was delicious as well! You want food service, ask for Jessie
Great service , great food and great atmosphere. Our server Moises was great from the beginning, introduced himself and made us feel comfortable. Different staff such as managers and supervisors came to check on us as well and made sure we were well taken care of. Definitely recommend this San Diego Location.
amazing food and great service from Jessie. I will without a doubt be back.
We had a very nice dinner in the Gaslamp district! The food was nice Italian and the portions really big!! The service was excellent and we felt welcomed and taken care of especially by Jessie/Jessica!
Thank you Jessie and Tony!!! We had a great time staff were super friendly and we were well taken care of!
Wonderful that you're open again. The food was fantastic. Highly recommend the chicken bruschetta. The female waitress Jessie was terrific. She's a great waitress. She gets five stars
I don’t say this lightly: this was one of the best Italian meals I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked into Buca di Beppo, the atmosphere set the tone—warm, inviting, with the faint scent of garlic and fresh basil in the air. It felt like being transported straight to a cozy street-side eatery in Rome. Thank you Jeff for a wonderful meal!
My wonderful Boston friend ❤️ had the Colossal Sundae--she could NOT eat it all! GREAT eggplant parmesan, antipasti, Bolognese pasta (very silky, FANTASTIC beef and pork sauce), fabulous bruschetta (Exceptional vinaigrette dressing on very tasty and FRESH tomatoes)! Superb server, Trey! Staff SANG to my pal!!!
Ms. Jessie did a great job with my group of 10 at the Pope table on Wednesday. She was very patient with us, very timely, and has a great personality. Thank you for hosting my group and making us all feel special.
I highly recommend taking your family or a group of friends out to eat here. One entree can feed 6 people. Plenty of food and it's well worth it if you go in a big group. Each entree is around $25-35. Ordered the trio platter, and two entrees (eggplant parmagama and stuff chicken) and it was delicious. We had plenty of left overs to take home. The staff was attentive and were nice to us. Huge thank you to the staff for singing Happy Birthday to our friend and making this a memorable birthday celebration 🎂
Lovely establishment I wasn’t just greeted by one server I was greeted by to service simultaneously I was amazed at the Decore and I loved how spaced out everyone was is very nice to see you then keep the business and do it right and serve hot food fresh food can’t wait to come back
The new Buca is much nicer than the old location. Spacious, airy, classy ! Good food, good service,,, three meatballs for $30.00 is a little much! But we say,,, go for it !!!👍
The environment was excellent great service highly recommend the food was amazing will go back for more bring your family
We had dinner here last night and we thoroughly enjoyed the fun ambiance and food and service. Jessie our server was warm and so professional. She guided us through the menu and made great suggestions since dishes are served family style. We 4 shared an antipasto salad and the cheese ravioli with tomato sauce and the salmon and the delicious focaccia bread. For dessert we shared a slice of cheesecake and a slice of the cream cake. Portions are large and everything we had was delicious!
Amazing new spot in Gaslamp! Had a great time with family. The servings are huge though, 4 of us barely made a dent into the large. Our waitress Jessie was amazing, would come back just for her 😊
We had a group of 32 and Jessie, Kyle and Sam did a great job of making sure that we had everything that we needed. They were quick with bringing out our food and keeping up on having drinks filled! It was a great atmosphere and we had a great time!
Food was decent - but our service was amazing! Jessie was our waitress and she was very kind and attentive. She joked around with us and was close by if we needed anything. Was not impressed by the food, but we had a good time anyway.
Such a romantic, gorgeous and delicious place to spend time with my love, or my loved ones ✨ Great music, and great staff on top of amazing pasta Arturo and Ynette were so attentive, friendly and charismatic; I really appreciate the welcoming hospitality, I felt right at home! Will be coming here most often
Been craving for Italian cuisine and this restaurant is the 1st we saw here on Google. Our server Andrea made our first time experience incredible . Me and my husband ordered small servings of Ceasar salad, fried mozarella, margherita pizza and lasagña , and oh boy they said small but the servings were hugeeeeee. the food is great, the server was awesome, we were having the best gastronomical experience. must try in San Diego. Look at our photos for HUGE evidence. Thank you Andrea for taking care of us!
Great place for family dinners and great food. My son loved the kids pizza and we had great time celebrating grandma birthday. Great service and great atmosphere. Love to come back and do it again. Just remember the food is large portions and little on expense side. But I will still return here
Heard that they were opening to the public today. So I stopped in for lunch. By chance got the honor of being their first customer and had a great time. The staff was amazing, the food was just as good, and the atmosphere of the place was perfect to just relax and enjoy a meal. I look forward to becoming a regular. :)
Big party arrived here and the staff members were able to serve everyone well. The food was great and everyone was asking for more. Overall a great experience with great people attending us.
Lawrence was excellent! He made suggestions when asked and they were spot on delicious!! Great service, great food, great atmosphere and great price!
This is my first Buca di Beppo experience and I'm glad to make that first visit to this Italian American franchise in San Diego. I'm originally from Brooklyn with a strong Italian American heritage. I judge my eating experience to three basic categories: atmosphere, price and quality of food. The ambiance is great. The decor, furniture and listening to old standard music while eating is classic. The quality of food is good. The pasta was cooked at the right time and the sauce is not too acidic or sweet. The salad I ordered is great. I love the soaked Italian dressing. It reminds me of the way old school Italians would do it. The prices for the lunch menu is reasonable and recommend taking a large group for order sharing. I recommend this place for anyone with an appetite. Please watch the video to get the feeling of that old school Italian vibe. The vibe I used to get when I walk in a home with personal pictures all over the wall and home cooked Italian meals. ENJOY this place Google readers!
I have to say I like the new location that’s on the corner for fourth and J St. you have a beautiful bar setting area. A large dining room and private dining room area. I had the lunch special include salad and pasta for $14. Also, house bread. Food was phenomenal. The service was amazing. The staff were very friendly from the minute. You arrive to the minute you leave. If you’re looking for a place to eat that has large portions and family friendly this is the place to be. It’s located in a heart of a gas lamp District of San Diego two minutes away from the baseball stadium.
I happened to find the place by accident. The food and the knowledge of the staff made the experience enjoyable. I tried their recommendations , it's delicious!
Absolutely delicious. Great prices, however, its important to know that meals are made to be shared. For example, on the menu you have the option of ordering a small or large. The small serving 3 people and the large serving 5. They have booths or tables available. I recommend making a reservation. The pizza is very tasty. Service is spectacular.
I've been looking for an authentic Italian restaurant since moving to downtown. This is a keeper!! The best spaghetti I've had, just as if I cooked it myself! I can't wait to try other dishes they offer. Highly recommended for lunch and dinner!! You get plenty of great food and service . Another plus is it won't kill the wallet.
Went here with 5 other friends, we had this one specific waiter named Artie, greatest waiter I've ever had in my life. 100% a place to visit.
First of all shout out to everyone that works here from chefs to waitresses to managers !! But specifically a special shout out to Arturo, Sam and Janey!!!! Made our dinner super special and we enjoyed every bite. We came with family and friends. They greeted us with such enthusiasm and were always on it. Made sure we werent missing anything. We appreciate your hard work and great customer service. Can’t wait to be back and bring back more friends and family!!
We came to Buca di Beppo to celebrate my aunt’s birthday and it was such a great experience from start to finish. Jessie was our server and she made the night feel extra special. She welcomed us right away, checked in just enough without interrupting, and really took the time to make sure our birthday girl felt celebrated. Her timing and energy were perfect , friendly, thoughtful, and on top of everything even with a busy dining room. The food came out fresh and hot, and the portions were huge , definitely made for sharing. We loved the rigatoni and linguini the most, and we all left full and happy. The atmosphere was fun and lively, which is exactly what you want on a family celebration night. Thank you Jessie for helping make my aunt’s birthday dinner such a memorable night. We’ll be back soon!
I visited Buca di Beppo on J st downtown and had a great experience. We were greeted with a smile and seated right away, service was on point and the food came out shortly after we ordered. This is a reflection on the staff and how well the restaurant is managed. I will definitely be returning to this location
Absolutely amazing experience! The food was authentic, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauces were rich and homemade, and the pizza had the perfect crispy crust. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting—perfect for a date night or family dinner. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving real Italian food!
The service was great and the staff were really nice. Th y always made sure we had enough of everything food was amazing a well. Perfect for celebrations atmosphere is really welcoming and lively.
Food was very good with a big menu to choose from. Every staff member we dealt with was extremely friendly and accommodating. Be aware that the food is served family style and even small portions are meant to be shared between multiple people. The Venetian Long Island iced tea is highly recommended.
We had the pleasure of sitting at the Kitchen Table, and if it's something you have never done, I would highly recommend it. We had a blast with the staff, and watching the way the food is prepared was amazing. When we got there, they we're serving a party of 55! The trays of food that they we're taking out we're huge. The food was phenomenal, the sangria was amazing, but the service and the staff just made our experience one of the best nights we have had while we were here in San Diego. We will definitely be coming back!!

Jessie (girl) server was patiently waiting for me to order and over all great service kind, respectful as well will come here again. Food was amazing as well really great for family's.
It's a good restraunt. All things in downtown San Diego are a pain to find parking. The service was good and our server went out of his way to help my wife with all of her questions
It’s all about family and atmosphere in this place. It’s such a fun place to do birthdays and for other occasions. Food isn’t bad, but isn’t the greatest. It’s good for what it is. Service is always great 😌
Sign up for the BIP before hand. Told our server know that we had signed up for the rewards program and honestly let him know it was my bday (actually) and I was trying to snag a discount. He goes "I got you" lol homie, what? No freebie, no discount, nothing. Where's the family feel? Still had a good time, just wish the "I got you" came with a little birthday love! 🥲
Our food was delicious. Be aware that this is family style serving. The items are meant to be shared.
Valentine’s dinner here with my love.. food was pretty good.. service was top notch.. Rudy and Josh A.took really good care of us.. only 1 thumbs down is wish they would of told us about the Valentine’s dinner special that we saw online here once we got home.. it was pretty much the same dinner that we ordered..other then that we will be back.. 👍
Came here around lunch on a Saturday during a conference. Portions are giant. Great for groups. Chicken parm and the Quattro Fromagio (4 types of cheese ravioli) were decent. It’s not blow your mind Italian, but it’s very good for groups at the price point.
Opened in a new location downtown close to the convention center, Buca is still doing that they do best, family sized portions of red table cloth Italian comfort food. First thing you’ll notice is how open this location is. Others I’ve visited over the years always had several unusually small dining rooms, I’m looking at you Anaheim. But here the dining room is large including several theme rooms for bigger parties. Seating also is ample with large family sized booths. Everyone we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigations drinks and dinner. They were out of both IPAs, same thing happened at another location. Not sure what’s up with that, so if you like drinking those, be warned. There were 4 of us dining in so we were able to share quite a number of dishes. Standouts included their crispy-crunchy Fried Mozzarella appetizers. I mean fried cheese, what’s not to love. Chicken Parmigiana also reflected delicious crunch all smothered in sauce and cheese. Along side we ordered a Buca Big Fettuccini Alfredo, I’m pretty sure this was a couple of pounds of pasta. I’ve been eating leftovers since. All delicious and honestly, I was surprised the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. On a side note, if you are only 1-2 guests and sit in the bar, you can order from their lunch menu. This includes smaller versions of their most delicious items. Perfect for a regular weeknight meal. I’m pretty happy they opened so close to our place downtown. It’s nice to have another pasta forward option in the area. Now they just need to get their IPA game together.
If you have a large group and like to share food, this is a great place to go that won't break the bank. Great atmosphere with lots of big tables and rooms to accommodate large groups. Homey atmosphere with cool old pictures hanging on the wall. Friendly staff. Most dishes are between $19-26 which serve 3-5 people so you only need a few dishes for a large group. The food is good, not great. But, definitely worth a visit.
We went to the new Buca in San Diego. Kind waiters, however, it took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our main dish. We got our salad and had to wait for about 50 minutes more to get it. We got desperate. Our visit lasted for 2 hours because all the process ( even getting our check) took forever. Food was very good, but I hope they fix these problems that honestly made our visit stressful.
Had an okay experience, and we'll probably check it out again. They were only about a week into their new opening so I've got to cut them some slack. However, I was slightly annoyed that after I split the check with a friend, their software calculated the tip on the total amount. So instead of tipping 20% on half the bill, we each paid 20% on the total bill, which comes out to 40% on half the bill. Hopefully they fix that glitch.
I don’t understand the hype of this place, food is alright and overpriced. I ordered a pizza and it was not filling at all and the calamari is overpriced and it is a standard serving. The food had no taste! Waiter never checked up on us. Left still hungry.
This place was good. The pasta was decent (we ordered the vodka sauce one), but it wasn't extraordinary. The atmosphere was fun. The waiter seemed to rush us a little bit, although some would say that's just being attentive, so I can't really ding them on that. Fast service for sure. Good food, good atmosphere. I wasn't wowed, but I wasn't disappointed, either.
Definitely not the Bucca Di beppo experience it use to be. Alot has changed due to new ownership is what we were told. The Caesar salad has downgraded with sub par Ingredients and is just not worth the price anymore. I recommend skipping the salads and go straight to the main entrees because the pizza is still delicious. The service is really good and the staff is very kind but they are way under staffed due to the inconsistency of business at this location. As soon as it gets busy the staff cannot keep up.
Dinner was decent. I didn’t like at all that did not mention anything about needing to stay for a specific time like in Pandemic and brought us the check without asking for it, the waitress argued there was a big party coming and needed the table. We were not even able to order dessert
Disappointed and won't be coming back. I've been to other Buca di Beppos, but this location was the worst. Came here a few weeks for a Monday lunch. The restaurant was pretty empty. It was meatball Monday which means half off their half-pound meatballs. Our waiter was friendly but not professional. We ordered the dinner spaghetti and meatballs and a lunch chicken limone which should come with a side. The waiter did not ask us for our side order. When I questioned him, he gave me options that were not in the menu and failed to mention one of the ones that was on the menu. I ordered the broccoli. Pictured is what they served me.... that's mold on the bottom of the stalks. Pretty disgusting. There really is no excuse for this. I can only imagine what the other ingredients look like before they mix it into their dishes.
Went in yesterday for date night and was disappointed with service. We got there and the bartender, Oscar, was nice and recommended good drinks. We quickly placed our order for an appetizer, salad, and bread, and then right after our food was ordered. Everything before the food came out quickly and delicious. Then a party of around 60 came in and we didn't mind when asked if wanted to move, because it was no bother. We get it, it's a restruant, big parties will come in. Our food was put in BEFORE that big party came in. We finished the appetizer and salad. But waited for our food. The server later told us it was being worked on, which was great. Time passed, and he didn't say anything until about 30 minutes more later. More time passed and the big group was already having around 3 entrees passed around. We waited more and he came back to tell us it was still being worked on. At this point we were going to cancel it, but instead decided to take it to go. So we asked if it was being plated already and he said yes, but we told him we are taking it to go. Another 15 minutes passed and it came in a bowl instead of a box. If it was already being plated, why did it take 15 minutes? Waited about an hour for the Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. That was the only thing we ordered for our meal to share and it was disappointing to not even be able to eat it there because we had to leave to go catch a showing. They did discount one of the drinks, but this was a bad experience at this location, considering we've gone to the Carlsbad and Mira Mesa one and have seen how they handle big parties and other tables well. My recommendation is if you see a big party, keep an eye out for your food here.
Great food but don't like the decor. It's really creepy inside and not family friendly. I don't want to see a woman in her underwear while I eat. That aside, I love the food here. It reminds me of Italian cooking back home in New York. I like how there are healthy veggie options to counteract the delicious cakes!
Unfortunately poor service here in downtown SD compared to other Buca di Beppo establishments. My party initially got seated in one section; but as soon as were about to order, we got booted to another far away section to accommodate a bigger party. New table had some dirty utensils too yet management was able to swap that out fast. Thankfully we got our order in quickly too as our primary server pretty much disappeared for the remainder of the evening. The food itself was the redeeming factor - can't go wrong with the large, yummy servings of spaghetti or eggplant. Had come to celebrate my birthday dinner here but no shoutouts or specials here like at other Buca di Beppo restaurants. Again, couldn't get a hold of our server until we all started getting up from the table to flag more staff down to just pay the bill and get out to continue the celebrate elsewhere. Wish I celebrated my birthday dinner elsewhere to be honest.

We expected an Italian food going to an Italian restaurant, we ordered lasagna which was frozen previously and thrown in the microwave with a canned red sauce on top. The worst lasagna I had in my life. I don’t recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for decent food .
This restaurant chain has promised to reimburse us and repeatedly delayed it and now with Carlsbad’s closing has gone silent. I’ve emailed the chain and still no response. For a restaurant to own their mistakes (Alfredo had gone rancid and they burnt dishes reheating them, so obviously not fresh if we were served reheated dishes) to say their full reimburse the $120 bill, I sent the receipts as requested, then they completely ghosted me. I do not trust this restaurant chain, nor the safety of their food.
Terrible service. we ordered some tray of food. Order came much smaller and missing items. They give us a receipt with out the details of our order. They over charged and the manager was extremely rude and not willing to admit the mistake they did. It was unfortunately because we were looking forward for the order but completely made a mess of our order and got so little food for a big party. Over charged completely and really bad customer service. Rude manager
Stopped by at around 830pm for some chicken parmigiana and was informed that they were only doing large portions for 3 people. Even though I was eating for one I made the order and paid the 35 plus tax. No big deal, until I made it home and opened my food to see three pieces of breaded chicken cutlet with 2 pieces of bread. No pasta!? I’ve been to at least 25-30 Italian restaurants from mom and pop to chain and never ordered chicken parm that didn’t come with pasta. I was told only the lunch portion came with pasta. After I arrived home. What!? Why!? How is this supposed to feed 3 people? I didn’t look at the menu because, who serves chicken parm with no pasta? I waited 45 minutes for half of a meal. I ended up having to make my own pasta at home. Absolutely unsatisfactory. I waited patiently even though I was told 15 minutes which turned into 45 minutes if the food was good I would have been fine. Very disappointed.
We came here for our first time since we've been waiting to try for a while and we are very disappointed! We came in as a party of 10 and One of the girls looked at us as if we committed a crime asking if we had a reservation. I replied sorry no we don't did we have to have one she said yes. I said oh sorry I didn't know it's out first time here. As she was still staring at us like we were crazy she said let me ask my severs if they can. As she said that the other girl said yes we can it will be a 20 min wait. This girl looks at the other girls annoyed and says no, it will be a very long wait and I don't think we can. Wow! We have never been kicked out of a restaurant in such a way! So sad! I guess we will NEVER GET THE CHANCE TO TRY THIS PLACE, by the way we were turned away! Disgusting service!
Buca San Diego gets an F. Been to the Pasadena and Vegas locations and both amazing food. Food here is absolutely trash at best. Plate scolding hot while the food on the same plate was cold and undercooked. Empty restaurant on a Friday should have been all I needed to see. This is supposed to be baked rigatoni.
Stopped by for happy hour and would not recommend. The guy who sat us made a point to tell us he wasn’t on the clock, which was weird, but we’re casual and didn’t think much of it. Then I watched someone walk in off the street and go straight to the kitchen and bag up a takeout order without washing his hands. The Brussels sprouts we ordered were drenched in oil and they forgot the balsamic glaze. When I asked for it our server brought us balsamic vinegar and seemed at a loss when I then specifically asked for glaze (it’s an ingredient listed on the menu). We ordered the garlic Parmesan fries that came out as just plain French fries. We let our server know and we declined to have them fixed because at this point we were feeling sick from the amount of oil on our other two dishes. We asked for the check and she had still charged us for the fries which were incorrect and we didn’t touch. Her manager was nearby the whole time and we heard him acknowledge that they were wrong when she went to get them taken off. I am industry and have never left a bad review but I’m currently fighting back the food that is trying to come back up. Our server was at least pleasant but that’s the only positive thing I have to say. I have dined at other Buca di Beppos before and wasn’t expecting fine Italian food but to call what we ate food is a stretch.
I’ve been to several Buca di Beppo’s, so when I saw one here in San Diego, my mom and I had to go! However, if this was my first time at this restaurant I would never go to another one again. The service was not what I expected, the waiter brought my appetizers and food out all at once. Then said they forgot to add the shrimp to my pasta and brings me a bowl of steamed shrimp to mix in myself. He just dropped the food on the table and walked away before I could even ask for anything else. The pasta was dry, nothing like what I’m used to at this franchise. When I asked for a manager, some guy comes up clearing the table and we were like are you the manager, that we are waiting on a manager, the guy proceeds to tell us “ yes that’s why I’m here”. He proceeded to say they are short staffed and that we are lucky he let us sit without a reservation. Meanwhile, there’s a lot of ppl waiting for a table without reservations since it was after an event at Petco park. Then don’t seat ppl if you can’t provide service. Thankfully was just once bad experience here but wouldn’t go back to this location.
Food was mediocre at best. Service was horrendous. Waitress went on a Starbucks run and nobody picked up our table. They still had the nerve to charge me the full bill even though we could barely get drink refills or warm pasta.
