Absolutely delicious Japanese Curry. Had the chicken katsu. Chicken was crispy and did not get soggy, curry was flavorful, rice was well cooked and sticky. Great service as well. Bonus points for the $4 Japanese IPAs (all day happy hour). Will definitely be back!
Pretty good taste for the curry, wish I had the pork lol because the crab cakes too small for me
Usually not a long line or too crowded. You order at the front and they bring you your food and it's not too long. The food tastes great. Overall decent pricing for quantity and decent quality. Will fill the crave if you have one. I've come here twice now usually with friends!
I really enjoy my curry and just watched a video about a curry place in Japan that really made me hungry for some. So was really happy when I saw this place when I was at a nearby shop. I decided to stop by for lunch and SO glad I did. The curry is beef based and extremely rich in flavor. Just savory, umami filled deliciousness. Almost like a gravy. I ordered it with the pork cutlet which was fresh out of the fryer, thin, and slightly crispy. Just the way you want it in your curry. There was just the right amount of rice and a side of pickled vegetables to add some tartness once in awhile was perfect. The restaurant is located across from a school and there isn't a ton of street parking in the area. I was there on a Sunday so it wasn't bad, but imagine it can be difficult during peak times. The restaurant has about 10 counter seats and a few more spots where you can eat standing up, so it isn't large. A lot of their business is take-out/delivery as there was a pretty consistent stream of people picking things up. The service was super-friendly and quick. I'd highly recommend this place!
Such wonderful Japanese Curry. There were subtle spices and even a slight apple flavor in the sauce. Quality food and good portions. I got the pork katsu with the potato croquette and my partner got the chicken katsu with the Aji Fry (mackerel). Also the restaurant has a nice well lit, cozy setting with soft music playing in the background. Perfect for a date! I highly recommend! Plus, if you are vegetarian they have options for you too.
Chicken katsu curry is amazing!! Definitely worth trying.
Go to experience award winning Japanese curry that is rich and delicious, and ingredients are made with care. It’s a treat to eat there in a casual setting or when taking out, the proteins are separated from the curry and rice so nothing gets soggy. The flavors are wonderful and very satisfying, and we go often! And now open in Berkeley as well!
Omg! The food was so good. I ordered the pork katsu curry, and it was so authentic and flavorful. They also have a vegetarian option, which is a vegetable-based curry. The $3 Asahi happy hour is a great deal too. I recommend trying the Japanese soda, Yuzu white peach flavor, which goes well with the curry. The service is excellent as well. Highly recommend this place if you're in San Francisco. You can't go wrong with this place!
The most delicious bowl of Japanese Curry we ever had across America!! The Hinoya curry is mouthwatering and delicious. We can testify as native asians that this is as good as it gets! The owners are really friendly and welcoming. And the ambience is chill and calming. We do hope this becomes a chain store across America!!
Great counter ordering japanese curry place! The curry flavor is strong and tastes very freshly made. I got the Kaarage dish and the Kani croquettes! The fry on both were different with the croquette style tempura fry was similar to in japan while the karate fry was a more familiar fried chicken style. This worked perfectly with the croquettes perfect for dipping and the chicken thighs were juicy still under the skin! Service was pleasant and is perfect for a nice meal in a walkable area!
Eat here! Simple as that. The beef curry is absolutely delicious. The standard order curry chicken is good, but we've upgraded to the karage chicken and it makes this 10/10 dish an 11/10. 3 pieces is plenty if you're hungry, but if you're like me, I let my stomach do the ordering and add 2 additional pieces. Eat here or get delivery (our normal way to eat it), you won't be disappointed! Note: average delivery time from here has been 10-20 minutes which is A+ in our books too!
Despite a pretty rough soft opening, the staff and food more than compensate for the long wait (expect a long wait, at least for a while until things settle down). This is probably now the best Japanese curry in San Francisco. Big claim, I know. The current menu is pretty limited, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what is on the full menu. As it stands, their curry is still fantastic - it has the perfect amount of heat, the curry itself has an amazing consistency and flavor, and the chicken is perfectly fried. That being said, I know next to nothing about Japanese curry, so I really suggest you go and try it out yourself. I hope to see udon on the menu soon, I love the rice base but I feel like udon does it the justice it deserves.
After seeing a ton of businesses fail to make it in this location (Mac’d, Sushi, etc.) it’s nice to see this fast casual curry concept succeed. Food was really well done. Service was prompt and friendly. Price was a little high for what you get, but the massive portions make up for it. Manager/ owner/ operator who was there definitely cares and checked in on all his guests and was incredibly polite. The croquettes were amazing and if you have a hankering for Japanese curry, don’t think you can go wrong here stopping by.
One of my favorite comfort food places in the city. Kind people, incredible food, simply wonderful. I can’t recommend highly enough.
This was my second time at Nippon Curry and it was as good as my first time! I’m not sure why this place isn’t busier, but this OTC joint serves up some of the best Japanese curry dishes in the Bay Area! I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry and it was lightly breaded and juicy, smothered with the restaurants beautiful curry sauce. Sometimes I think I should order something else from the Sides menu, but the portions served here are BIG! The service and staff here are friendly and the restaurant itself has numerous seating, even at the peak of the lunch hour.

We know one of the workers so thought we’d check out it out. They have seats outside but we decided to dine in since it was early and not crowded yet. We ordered the tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet). The curry sauce was nice with a slight sweetness that is typical for Japanese curry. Next time I’ll order the greens for a bit more vegetables. The amount of pork was just rice. My daughter and I didn’t finish all of our rice but my husband did. They had a couple of sake to pick from. Hubby also tried a Japanese beer that he’d not tried before and enjoyed it. Definitely will come back again. Delish!

Always a pleasure to eat here. The chicken breast katsu with curry is my go-to—crispy, juicy, and paired with a curry sauce that’s unbelievably good. Friendly, efficient staff round out the experience.
Overall it was good, I just wish they had a few more small bite options like shishito or agedashi tofu, also tofu curry would have been nice, the aji fish were kind of small. The curry had good flavor though
After a Japan trip, this is exactly what we needed to scratch our curry itch. The vegetarian curry was pretty damn good, the katsu curry was good but the katsu itself could have used more flavor. Obviously not as tasty as the Japan chain curries but pretty damn good.

For San Francisco Japanese food standard I would say it’s not bad. The sandwich was delicious compared to the curry, the curry sauce is on mild spicy side. It taste good but a bit too gooey

Average at best. No frills Japanese curry. Just sauce plus the protein option of choice. Rice base, with protein choice the curry sauce on top. They dont put the curry on the side. No pickled anything, no veggies, no spice option. As basic as ypu can get. I wouldnt make the effort to park and eat here...
Curry was great, staff were friendly, but the place looks and smells bad and unappealing. A little renovation can go a long way. It’s a shame cause they really have great-tasting curry. Want to come back but taste alone is not enough to make it worth it.
