Have been here twice for business dinners, and both were excellent experiences for all attendees. All the menu items are nicely done, staff is attentive and friendly, and the space is relaxing and enjoyable.
The outdoor dining area was quite cozy and quiet. Indoor dining was also available when we ate here. I got the Chicken Sandwich and it tasted really good.
OMG Desserts! We were looking for a dessert place, which was closed. So we decided to check the closest venue available. If you want to try something you have never tried before, this is the place to go. You may order any item on the dessert menu and be surprised. Crème Brulé with the Pear poached in red wine is my favorite, however.
Forgot to take photos...!! Argh. Well, the food was delicious — the artichoke app, salmon pizza & ribs were all amazing! Service was wonderful too... We’ll def be back!
They were a little confusing the music and food are a mix of Persian and American but and staff or cook looks and spoke spanish. Very Eclectic place food to expensive but beautifully plated and not sure if it will fly.
Although Valentines' Day and a packed room, Georgio (front of the house), and Jorge (kitchen), hit it out of the park with the Prix Fix menu. My Filet Wellington was cooked exactly medium-rare, (with extraordinary lobster mashed potatoes), and paired with Caymus Quilt Cab, the whole meal was one Central Park's best meals - consistent with their great food and service.
The fishcakes were not what I expected. When I debated which wine to have, the super staff brought me taster glasses. My main course was a pasta dish which was rich and creamy. Pleasant ambience for lunch. Was full.
This review is about a month overdue. I had the privilege and pleasure of dining inside last month for my birthday celebration. The staff was very gracious, cordial, and attentive and followed all safety protocols. The food and service were impeccable. The calamari, filet mignon, and chocolate cake were outstanding. I also appreciated the complimentary desert for my special day. Thumbs way up
Wow! Had family birthday luncheon there today. I'm a "picky person" and so is my wife. This was a very pleasant surprise as to just how good EVERYTHING was! The waiters were actually professional waiters - courteous, attentive, neat & well dressed [did I just say that? - Funny as how many places the waiters/waitresses looked like they slept in their clothes - sorry] and asked numerous times if everything was satisfactory - which it was & more. 11 of us and everyone said their lunch was very good. So - service way above average, food way above average and prices extremely reasonable. My wife is already thinking of rescheduling an upcoming luncheon to this wonderful & well run restaurant. Whoever the manager is he/she deserves a raise! Lol!... Try this place - you won;t be disappointed.
Love the food, delicious lamb chops- these are "lolipopped" so they aren't huge. I can't eat large portions but if you're more hungry, order the offer of 4.The standard arrives with 2. The beet salad with goat cheese was so delicious and they have lovely coffee. Service is really good too. Enjoy a treat, check them out!
One of best meals we have enjoyed on the peninsula in a long time. Excellent appetisers and perfectly prepared entrees. Great service to boot. Every one would return. Well, we must have hit an off night at central park bistro on a busy mother's day. I had made a fabulous brunch at home so we decided to go out for dinner to one of our favorite places. Usual chef must have been cooking at home for his Mother. Worst meal we have had here. Scallops cold and not flavorful. Duck ragot with pasta shells instead of handmade flat noodles and vinegary. Bummer. Service so-so.
Today was my first time at Central Park Bistro on Fourth Ave in San Mateo and the lamb chops were excellent. Wow! The chef prepared the lamb chops in an exquisite, tasty sauce. Included were small portions of chive potato cake, goat cheese, and cherry tomatoes. The sides were tasty, as well. Central Park Bistro has a few tables in front. The interior décor is pleasant, but I wish they had more light since my old eyes are not what they used to be, which makes reading the menu impossible without a flashlight/cell light. There is a lot of street level parking, but we must feed the meter. I wish San Mateo City would stop that.
The octopus is some of the best I have ever had. The gnocci made with squash just melts. The scallops and sea bass were fresh and so satisfying. The bar and wine offerings are a perfect match. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and romantic. The bread pudding is delicious. The service is professional and on point. Wonderful meal.
Free bread is soft and warm with soft herb butter-OK to skip if you're not hungry. They should have put it on the table without me asking in the beginning. A bit pricy for what I got EXCELLENT Malbec Layer Cake, Argentina- taste fruity but not smooth Spaghetti & Meatballs- but I prefer marinara for the sauce
Nice family restaurant. The food is delicious and everyone is very friendly. Pizza as good as it can get. Very happy with our evening here.
After a long road trip with mediocre meals along the way, what a surprisingly pleasant experience! The octopus is amazing -- tender and tasty -- with a beautiful presentation. I also recommend the calamari with artichokes and onion rings. Gre
We had a team lunch here recently. We booked online and didn't have any issues for a party of 10. Service was good. Good wine selection and food were delicious.
Great food, fantastic service. One of my favorite places in the Bay Area for lunch and dinner. Great for company dinners as well. Awesome wine selection and cocktails. The food is a great mix of French and Mediterranean cuisine, and depending on your selection can deliver both a comfort food as well as a fine dining experience. For example an elegant foie gras or lamb rack or a crispy wood oven baked wild mushroom pizza.
My husband and I love this place! The food and friendly staff is consistently excellent! We don't eat here enough to be considered a regular, but we definitely do keep coming back again and again over other places in San Mateo..
Delicious ravioli and calamari. Great location in downtown San Mateo. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. We thought it might be too noisy, but it was fine.
Great service, great food.got to try octopus as appetizers and rack of lamb is marvelous. Linguini with scallops and rock prawns is out of this world...Even their pizza is tasty too !!! Definitely going back to try other dishes...
I do not want to say anything. You must see this restaurant
The food is so flavorful . Great meat. The most perfectly cooked soft bread in a bowl, amazing chefs, delicious cocktails. San Mateo gem
Their crème brûlée was amazing! Went there late night, when the kitchen was closed already. The host was kind enough to let us sit and enjoy our dessert.
I went on Tuesday evening with a friend and we had wonderful experience. We started with their prawns and a fried calamari appetizer - Fantastic and fresh seafood. If you read my reviews I eat at many seafood restaurants and this was very fresh. I further verified that their seafood skills were high quality be ordering the seafood linguini which was beautifully presented and tasted very good. There was a drizzle on the side of the dish that looked exquisite. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately. The bartender seemed to be a bit on the new side but did a GREAT job. I believe the owner was on campus as well. Whomever it was - they were attentive, checking the dishes as they left the window and made sure our meal was solid. A very nice touch of service by their entire team. Door yourself a favor and make a visit to the downtown San Mateo establishment. They have a nice wine selection per my dining companion as well. Thanks Central Park Bistro.
Helpful, good advice and nice ambiance. Enzo a cool server who made our evening comfortable. The mushrooms pizza is definitely a good choice.
Very large portions! Good food, service and atmosphere.
We had a private party of 12. The menu, pace of service and ambience were all amazing.
Excellent service, fine food. Everyone in our party left happy.
Great restaurant! I had my wife’s birthday for a huge group and everything was just perfect. We really enjoyed the food, service and the vibes here!! Keep it up
Went on a Saturday and it was surprisingly easy to get a table, great food and service. Was a little shocking for me to see how empty it was with how great my meal/experience was. So if you want a top notch meal presented professionally that tastes good but don't want to fight for a reservation or wait outside for an hour, I'd suggest coming here.
Took a client to lunch and it was fabulous. The service was on point, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We could carry out a conversation and not be distracted by other guests or staff. Definitely try their pizzas. The crust was crunchy, the toppings fresh and savory. Also really enjoyed the artichoke beigne. Delicious!
We held a celebration party at Central Park Bistro with 28 attendees. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all excellent. We were really pleased with how attentive and accommodating the staff was.
I held a baby shower here because they had a completely private room! Hard to find in the peninsula for 8. What surprised us was how wonderful the food was! I mean excellent. Several of the ladies are going to come back!
===Review for Jan 2026===== 5 stars across the board Held another group dinner, this time for 20 people. The room was big enough for standing room at cocktail time, plus a T shaped table (the 2 end seats on either end at the top of the T was a bit awkward). Drink table at the very end. Good cocktail plates, good salads and really nice Salmon, Skirt Steak, Baby Backribs & Mushroom Risotto. 2 desserts. We backed out of the scallops dish when the restaurant reminded us there was a $12 overcharge above the set menu/ prices (for just 3 scallops!) Prices competitive otherwise for this type of gathering. Service was attentive and unintrusive. Overall highly recommend for a group gathering. Parking was free (on-street) but one had to circle a few blocks to find space. === Review frim 2024======== Food: 5 stars Service: 3 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars We had a private group (17 people) event here. Had the Gardenia room, which was about right for our group (it can accommodate more people). The food was very good - 2 salads, a duck middle course, 4 main entrees & 2 dessert choices. The chocolate mousse cake could have been more dense & dark chocolate, but it was acceptable. Service was attentive, and the room provided sufficient standing room for the circulating hor d'oeuvres. Because another large(r) group called in to book the same night (about 2 weeks before the event, and 1 month after we had already booked), the restaurant tried a couple times to get us to agree to a smaller room (here would have been no standing room given our group's size) or be seated in the main dining room where the bar was (separate tables would have made the event awkward). We had already booked & paid the down payment, and since the alternatives were unacceptable, we didn't agree. While we got the room we wanted, this back-&-forth should never have happened.
Amazing paella. Good, easy, comfortable ambience perfect for business conversations. Absolutely loved the paella and lava cake. Service is exemplary and there’s plenty of seating. Limited seating outside but the inside opens up to the outside street well with natural lighting. Open kitchen so nice aromas waft over. Reasonable prices. Did I say the service was great?
This is our go-to restaurant in downtown SM. Consistently great food, service. Sitting outside is nice. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. Sandwiches always fresh and come with a variety of wonderful side choices. My favorite story, several years ago I came for their Lamb shank and it was no longer on the menu, I told them I was disappointed and they made one up for me. Nice
Food and plate presentation were both amazing here. Appetizers were very good. Gnocchi was some of the best I've had, not chewy or rubbery. The service and quickness was also great, even for a large group.
Outstanding - everything. I loved the onion rings, tomato burrata salad, beet salad, grilled prawns, onion rings. Just spectacular. I hope I’m back soon.
Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great food and great service. Looking forward to going back again. Thank you, Central Park Bistro!
Enjoyed a lovely dinner last night with my daughter, we will definitely return. Decor: rustic contemporary Ambiance: dim lighting, intimate Food: lots of animal protein dishes, not much vegetarian. American cuisine with some international influences. Good selection: pork, beef, chicken, fish, pizzas, pasta, salads, etc. Beautifully prepared dishes, pretty yummy. Ossa bucca ravioli was exceptional, my lobster pasta could have had more flavor and more tender seafood, but the peas were fresh and it was good. Bread pudding was not what I expected at all, more like a cake, but OMG so delish!! Drinks: impressive wine list, good btg selection, loved the custom cocktail selections. Give them a try!!
My friend and I ended up here after a sushi place we planned to eat was full. This place had indoor dining so we were thrilled bc it was cold af outside. The gentlemen who served us were attentive and kind. We really just wanted to hangout and just ordered the fried calamari and mainly drinks. The staff even sang happy birthday to me and brought out this to our table. A surprisingly sweet gesture that I didn't expect. Will come back to try the entrees someday!
A recent dining experience at Central Park Bistro left me utterly enchanted! We kicked off with the Living Butter Lettuce Salad, a delectable shareable delight. The Bosc pear added a sweet touch, perfectly complemented by the Champagne Vinaigrette. For a communal feast, we delved into the Charcuterie for 3, and it did not disappoint. The generous portions made it an ideal choice for sharing among friends. Moving on to the main course, the Seafood Linguine pasta was a burst of flavors. A must-try! In consideration of dietary restrictions, the restaurant graciously substituted lobster with Salmon in the dish, showcasing their flexibility and commitment to customer satisfaction. The Paella was equally praiseworthy, a symphony of tastes that left a lasting impression. Central Park Bistro is a must-visit in the area, offering a culinary experience that transcends expectations. From the thoughtful presentation of salads to the flavorful main courses, each dish is a testament to the culinary excellence found in San Mateo.
I had an unexpected layover in San Francisco area due to a canceled flight, and I took the opportunity to visit Centrale Park Bistro, a recommendation from a friend. The restaurant boasts a lovely environment with an appealing design, including private rooms and outdoor seating. The service was top-notch, making my experience even more enjoyable. I chose to sit at the bar, where bartender Kristina took care of me. She was friendly and attentive, and mixed an amazing cocktails. The manager, Oz, checked on my dining experience multiple times. He provided excellent dish recommendations, and I opted for the Ahi Tuna and a Mushroom pizza, both of which were delicious. Overall, my experience at Centrale Park Bistro was fantastic. The combination of great food, excellent service, and a lovely ambiance makes it a spot I highly recommend visiting.
I passed by here on a date and we decided on a whim to have dinner. I’m glad we did! We sat outside facing the street, perfect for people watching. We ordered cocktails and an assortment of appetizers and everything was delicious! The only thing I didn’t like was the Hibiscus Paloma, it was very watery and tasted more like an herbal tea than a cocktail. They have fabulous wines on the menu that I’ll order next time.
Very professional service. Food is made with very fresh ingredients and they taste like they've been prepared by real chefs. Very nice presentation. Portions are fairly small, allowing room for appetizer and dessert. Waiting time is a bit longer than average between courses, so its perfect for having a chill time or talk over a meal, not if one is starving for immediate food. Definitely returning.
Went here for valentine's day, had a great time and food was delicious. Did put a star down because the heart cake my gf got was frozen solid and very hard to bite into. Other than that it was great.
Good food, good service in person but made a reservation via Open table and we were there on time but they marked us no show. They confirmed my name at the entrance.. why
Quiet and dim lit, our table was served perfectly throughout the night. All four of us ordered the filet mignon and it was excellent. The waiters choices or suggestions for wine were spot on. Outpost 2009 and a few shots of tawy with desserts such as creme brulee, lava cake, and vanilla scoop on top of moist cake. Highly recommend and our seating was near the back!
Really loved the food and service. The fried sage on the gnocchi appetizer was amazing. The scallops and risotto were creamy goodness accented by the pops of savory yum of roasted cherry tomatoes. The chocolate lava cake was outstanding with the center oozing out at the perfect consistency. My only constructive criticism is that the two tops are just a little too close for any privacy. I felt like I was an unwilling and unwanted visitor at the next table's first date. Next time I would opt for a two top in the aisle to avoid that awkwardness, but I would definitely go again. Deliciousness!
Only positive emotions. Incredibly tender meat, fresh bread, delicious beetroot sauce. Highly recommended!! And the most amazing service. Emir is the most valuable employee, such a good service from him, very attentive, every time with a smile, and interest. Thank you!!
Cool and sophisticated setting. Great service, friendly. Tasty fillet of sole sandwich came with crispy, hot fries. Chicken sandwich was a pleasure. Delicious iced tea made just right for my southern tastes (but without the sugar). Definitely will return.
Very nice restaurant. Came here with a group and everyone’s food looked really good. I had the roasted chicken and it was delicious. For dessert, I had a mocha latte and it was really great as well.
Everything was better than good. The hostess gave us an enthusiastic welcome and sat us earlier than our reservation time which was great. Our server was hilarious, the rest of the staff was on so top of things. The food was so good I was kinda sad when I finished it all bc there was no more left.

Excellent food! I ordered the special - Scallops and Risotto. The scallops were just the right texture and very flavorful. My husband had the halibut and it was excellent as well. We also had the banana lava cake for dessert. Best thing is, half the dinner options are gluten free or have gf versions. Friendly and courteous waiter. We did make a reservation and will look forward to returning.
The food is outstanding, we had one of best steaks that day, the service was good. We enjoyed the dinning experience there
The four of us immensely enjoyed our dinners! We all had a different entrees and shared three appetizers. All were flavorful and beautifully displayed. We finished our meal with the toffee cake with vanilla ice cream which was delightful! The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly!

My favorite location is in San Mateo. There's also location in Burlingame and in San Carlos but it does not feel like a chain it's.Food is wonderful and the service is very good. One of my personal favorites is the Lamb.My wife loves the filet mignon. Go check it out you will not be disappointed.
Service was good and most of the food was great. The bruschetta was good, but not great. The tables are close so it was hard to carry on a conversation at times as the table next to us was closer to me than some of the people at my table. Would come back here again.
Central Park Bistro serves a buzzy after-work Peninsula crowd, especially at the bar. If you live or work in San Mateo, you're likely to run into someone you know here. The lobster salad and bread pudding are signature dishes, but all of the tapas style bar food is reliable. Service is pleasant and attentive.
The food wasn't bad for a lunch place. The portions are good and service was prompt. It's harder and harder to find a descend American place in downtown San Mateo. This was a good place with relatively easy street parking. Will definitely come again
I got the seasonal vegetables plate. The flavors were good and varied, but so much oil. I felt ill for days after. My meat eating companions seemed happy with their food.
I wish there were a better score range, I'd really give this place a 4.5. The food was excellent. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is that the dishes were mostly conventional, though there was a little creative flair in each one. Well worth it.
Expensive. Service is top notch and let's you relax (that means they a bit slow but very good). Food is great. Wine selection very good. You got time? You got money? Is so, you'll like this place!
Experience at mother's day brunch: The Central Park Bistro has a great atmosphere, really nice decore, and a friendly and attentive staff. Can't really comment on their normal menu and pricing, as they were having a brunch special for mother's day that was fixed price for a 3 course meal. The selections we had we're all quite good, with generous cuts for the prime rib, though the more "breakfast" bacon and eggs was just OK and not up to expected for the price. The prime rib was well worth it, though. I suspect the normal price is more reasonable for that one. Mom had a lobster salad dish that was lovely and delicious. The deserts we had were also quite nice. Overall a good experience and a place to go back to. There is a city lot directly behind the restaurant, though parking in this part of downtown San Mateo can be tight, or need a several block walk. Not actually a bad thing, given it is a nice part of town.
My favorite place to go for a special occasion. Food and presentation were great. Servers excellent and attentive. My only negative is that my favorite lamb dish has been taken off the menu. Please bring it back
Started with a Cesar but opted for some protein as well. The chicken breast was ample enough to be a meal in itself. Super professional service. A bit empty during the lunch hour.
I had the scallops with the risotto and corn. No sauce. 3 others in the party had the same dish with the sauce, none of them finished the meal with that sauce on the risotto. They should rethink that dish, it was sooooo good without it. The restaurant is too expensive to serve a meal to a party plated as described on the menu and no one like it. It was a waste of money for those 3 people. It's was loud.
An intimate venue for dates nights. We were here for Valentine's Day and their prix fixe 3-course special. Definitely better seafood plates than red meat here. You're in it for the ambiance and not the portion sizes here, haha. Appetizers were a bit underwhelming - tuna poke was fresh, big chunks, well marinated. Golden/purple beet tower was more leafy greens than actual beets. Dressing could've been served on the side. A bit too vinegary. Entrees took a while; it was understandable as it was a special day and pretty packed. Chilean sea bass was great - super fresh, nively coated, and seared. Lamb chops were not the move. Burnt crust on the outside, and it came out medium rare despite asking for medium well. The dessert was very cutely plated. Bread pudding was not memorable, but the heart-shaped cake was light and a good note to end on.
The food and presentation was ok. Service was excellent. We had the beet salad, charcuterie, and octopus for lunch. We also had the cheese plate and cappuccino for dessert. The octopus was cooked well. The beet salad was a little over-dressed, but still tasty. We had a sage cheese on our dessert plate which was not our favorite. Our waiter was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.
Good overall. The setting of the returns was nice, with a pretty mini bar. Calamari was 80% fried onions, but they were flexible, able to create an off menu option to suit my order. Good service, and quick staff. 4/5. Not my personal favorite, but would recommend.

I’m sad to report this, although the food and service were good this time, the bathroom was leaking water from the toilet, spraying everywhere, and my father's leg was soaked, 86 years old, completely embarrassed. Come on guys, unacceptable. Finally, the gentleman who arrived at the bar tonight at 8:58 pm, hoping to grab a seat and a meal, only to find out that the kitchen was closed despite seeing the cooks preparing dishes, had an unfortunate experience. He simply desired spaghetti and meatballs - was it really necessary to deny him?
I only tried a few things but the food was above average. I sat at the bar. Service was excellent. Perhaps I ordered the wrong things but in an area with lots of competition, not sure how they get 5 stars.

The food is great but that is where it ends. The service is slow and painful. They either never pick up their phone or make you jump hoops to make a reservation and even then get it wrong. That being said, if you are a small party you can book via opentable and not have any issues.
Large, too busy and pretentious restaurant. Waiter forgot orders, service was extremely slow and above all the food was awful and expensive at the same time. Do not waste your time or money when close by alternatives are present nearby.
Went on Mother's Day with my wife and mother-in-law. The food was absolutely incredible, but the wait staff was very inattentive and pushy - they seemed really pressed to turn tables. Arrived at 1:30 (with reservation) after ordering/receiving food (food came rather quickly and was excellent) waiter only returned to drop off bill and collect plates about 20 minutes later - some dishes were still in progress. We were hurried out the door by 2:05p. Again, food was great - but not a good first impression from their service staff.
Wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner and ordered the scallops. It was a bit overcooked, the charred flavor was strong on 1 of 3, and I found the risotto was lacking in flavor. The first time I came here, I ordered the duck ragu which was surprisingly tart and tasted strongly of an herb (parsley?), not in line with the description. The overwhelmingly positive reviews here make me question my own taste. I've really wanted to like this restaurant but I've been disappointed twice.

Sad to post this… so disappointed on our scheduled reservation Sunday December 5th 2021 my mother in laws 90th Birthday to find out the special Wine room we requested a month ago was given away to another party ! We had 8 family members to celebrate her special day & our table was in the comer next to a curtain.. we received a call saying that there was an error in reservation! Really?? ! Hmmm We won’t be going back ! ☹️
Hours advertised as 11:30 AM TO 9:30 PM. Walked in at 1:45 PM for lunch. When I asked for a table for 2, some employee said we’re closed for lunch. Tried calling the phone number later to see about reservations and business hours…nobody even answered the phone. Wasted trip…wasted time.
Almost zero vegetarian options! surprising that there is a place in the heart of the bay area that has no veggie options- just a salad and a main course of grilled veggies. no protein sources for vegetarians. they really need to update their menu and read the news a bit.
This was booked for a blind date - They did not bring me to the table where my date was sitting and instead had me wait at the bar for almost 10 minutes for no reason without offering water or any kind of beverage. When my date and I finally figured out we were waiting for each other (he could see me waiting at the bar and came over) and sat down the staff was not attentive and took another 20+ minutes to take our order. They got my order wrong (I ordered a burger and they brought a steak sandwich?) and then continued to not check on us so we had to flag someone down to ask for the bill. Food was mediocre which added insult to injury. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for any reasons
Very disappointing. Place wasn't busy, but they seemed very disorganized. We ordered two burgers and a caesar salad with chicken and it took about 20 minutes before anything was delivered. Ironically the two burgers were delivered in the Caesar salad was not . Both burgers were finished before anyone even stopped at our table see how things were and so I asked about my salad . Our waiter just looked at me like I was asking a dumb question or something. Finally the manager came over say that they were having a little bit of a trouble with cooking the chicken... Oh please!
I eat out a lot all over the world. During the hundreds of dinners, I don't think I've ever had to give one star. Valentine's Day was that exception. Interesting that the restaurant managed to remove my review from Opentable which explains why their rating is high on OT. Waiter / service was so bad that we had to get up and leave after our two welcome drinks had arrived and before we had even ordered dinner. The issues was their reaction after I pointed out that nowhere had they explained that the only option was a 3 course fixed price dinner. Not on their website, not on opentable. The smart way would have been to acknowledge that they should have informed the customers in advance, and either: Offer a welcome drink on the house or allow us only to pick two dishes and maybe deduct $20. The issue was not the 3 course dinner or the money. It was the attitude and complete lack of customer understanding and flexibility. As always, it comes down to the individual waiter. But his behavior is a function of the management.
