Amazing spot for a fancy dinner. Pricey, but worth it ~presentation & tastewise. Service is professional and good
Great place for fine dining. Very attentive service especially from Lee. The food was fabulous.
One of my favorite dining spots in Santa Fe has become a regular go-to now that I live here. This restaurant offers a delightful alternative to the abundance of Northern Mexican cuisine that saturates the area, providing a refreshing variety to the local dining scene. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of being served by Kyle, who truly enhanced the experience with his attentive service. He took the time to engage with us, greeting me warmly and even remembering my drink of choice, which made me feel valued and appreciated as a guest. However, a small drawback is something that seems to be a common theme in Santa Fe: many establishments close their doors relatively early. We found ourselves having such a wonderful time that we were the last patrons remaining in the restaurant. Had they been open longer, I’m certain we would have continued to enjoy the evening and lingered a bit more. Despite this minor downside, our experience was overall fantastic. The food was exquisite, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was inviting and beautifully curated. I can’t wait to return and make more memories at this lovely spot!
We had an elegant and delicious meal here: I had beef bourguignon, which was quite toothsome. My husband had perogis and seemed quite happy with them. I don’t remember our companions’ meals. I had a glass of Gruet sparkling wine—my friend had a “Ladies who Lunch” cocktail. I enjoyed my bubbly. We shared desserts: a chocolate mousse and an opera cake. I can only vouch for the mousse: delicious and — no doubt — nutritious. Our waitress was personable but not overbearing. The atmosphere was understated elegance. In short, it was very near perfect.
We loved everything about our experience here. Our server Rachel was amazing. The servers assistant Mitch was fabulous. The outside seating area was lovely. We had a bottle of Sequoia Grove Cab which was fantastic as was their wine list. Everything we ate was wonderful. Thank you for making our first night in Santa Fe fantastic!
AMAZING! My friends and I went here and had amazing time. The staff was fantastic and warm. The food was exceptional. It was thoughtful and delicious. We had a great time. I would highly recommend to anyone considering!
Wow! Dinner at Santacafe was an amazing experience. Their sparkling white patio is clean and full of fine-dining ambiance. Ben, our server, as well as every other employee there, was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would post more pictures of all the yummy things we ate and drank, but I was too busy enjoying myself. Here is a dessert picture as a consolation. If you haven't eaten here yet, you are missing out!
This place is amazing!!! The food was amazing!!! Customer service was amazing!! The entire restaurant was amazing!!! I will definitely be a returning customer and will become a regular everytime I’m in Santa Fe!!! You have to take a loved one or your family here!!!! I will highly recommend this to everyone I know!!!
On the basis of an excellent dinner last night, but also a total of a half dozen dinners over many years I confidently recommend Santacafé as exceptional. The food is inventive, illuminating, skillfully prepared and beautifully presented. The wine selection is appropriate and affordable. The service is attentive and considerate. I look forward to more dinners here when I return.
I had a great dining experience at Santacafe this weekend. Everything from the food, to the decor to the service was well-executed and reflected the highest quality standards. The ambiance is Santa Fe classy (great people watching spot), but definitely not snooty. Most of the tables were filled, but it wasn't too noisy and you could have a normal conversation - I like that! The service was spot on, the waiter was prompt, informative and solicitous - I like that! The food was delicious: my barbacoa tacos exceeded my expectations - the meat was perfectly prepared: smokey, moist, tender, flavorful. I didn't expect such a nice restaurant to deliver the goods on smoked meats - I like that! I didn't really think the prices we're out of line considering the quality of the dining experience. Highly recommended for fine dining spot in Santa Fe plaza area.
Santacafe is absolutely one of the best fine-dining experiences in Santa Fe! The food is phenomenal but most importantly the place has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere unlike many of the uptight fine dining establishments here. Everyone is kind and the chef can be seen thanking his tables and making sure their meal is spectacular! Try the desserts. They are thoughtful, creative, and made with TLC. Highly recommend the toasted marshmallow soft serve, the banana cream pie, and the chai spice carrot cake!
I have lived my whole life in Santa Fe. This was my first visit to this restaurant. The lobster rolls are excellent. Service is excellent. Thank you!
Absolutely recommend. The steak and salmon entrées were cooked to perfection, with perfectly complementing sides. The salmon and oyster mushroom appetizers were delicious and unique without being overwhelming or overpowering. As for cocktails, we had a variety and honestly everything on the cocktail menu sounded good and based on our experience, I would believe it would be, but if you want my advice, go straight for the geisha to try something truly special. Brian, the general manager is extremely friendly and welcoming, and really cares for both the Santa Fe community and providing a welcoming experience to everyone who visits.
Went for appetizers and wine. Had the calamari (absolutely delightful) that had more of a light tempura batter vs a cornmeal batter, lamb carpaccio (the photo doesn’t do it justice). The black tahini was so good I wanted to lick the plate. Johnny the bartender paired a glass of Argentine Torrontes with the calamari and a Pinot noir from Willamette Valley with the lamb. The pairing was perfect and the quality of the wine was outstanding. Do go, you’ll have a great time!
My husband and I had dinner here for the second time, and we were just as impressed this time as last time. First, the ambiance is warm, inviting and understated elegance, the service is impeccable and personable (Jeremy was our server and was absolutely delightful and knowledgeable about the menu), and then there's the food and drink. We shared the smoked salmon appetizer which is as beautiful as it is delicious. Then, my husband had the bolognese and I had the gnocchi... both dishes were fabulous and the portions are generous. And the Tuxedo chocolate mousse cake for dessert with hazelnut ice cream was to die for... seriously! This is our new favorite restaurant and we will be back frequently. Kudos to the chef and staff... Santa Cafe is a gem!
This place suits more for a quite date dinner then a dinner with a toddler, but they did a great job of accommodating three of us. They had a highchair for a toddler and a coloring page with crayons. They don't have a kids menu, but their main menu is suitable for a toddler if you are okay to pay $20-30 for their meal. They also didn't have milk or big selection of juice (only orange and grapefruit) and they didn't have toddler friendly cups, they served the juice in a regular glass. Besides that, food was delicious, my toddler finished almost all lobster roll. Also the roasted beef and pork were on another level
We were there recently to celebrate my companion’s birthday. It wasn’t our first time being there. As past experience, all the staff were highly trained and professional. Courteous and efficient. The food was excellent as expected. They surprised us by putting a candle on the dessert. It’s always the little touch that makes things special. We certainly will find reasons to go back there.
What stood out was the staff, Leo you provided A+++++ service. Give this guy a pay raise!! We had the half roasted chicken and bolognese, very yummy. Also had the Calamari however a bit too greasy. The ambiance of the restaurant felt cozy and relaxing. It was a great experience.
We went here for dinner on a Saturday night! Like many two person tables in Santa Fe, it seemed a bit overly crowded seating wise (since it used to be a house). While on the more expensive side, the food was great and our waiter was attentive. We even got to try a sampling of a dessert wine! We will definitely be back when we have friends/family in town.
Enjoyed the elegant setting and great vibe. The food and service is top notch! Great wine selections. Started with their signature cornbread with honey butter. Slightly sweet and warm. The complimentary app is salmon on a crisp potato. Our entrees were the housemate Bolognese and Agnolotti. Very comforting and satisfying.
My only regret is not taking pictures of the food to share. Sadly, this amazing restaurant fell off our radar as a local gem, having considered it a tourist destination. Regardless, the food and service are top notch. We will be going back soon because my wife cannot stop dreaming about the Key Lime Pie.
We dined at SantaCafe during the Santa Fe Wine and Chili Fiesta. It had been several years since we were there ... It was as good as ever! The draft cocktail menu is amazing, every one we tried was exceptional. The complimentary cornbread stick and butter was divine! Stuffed squash blossoms ruled the first course of the meal ... sublime! The fish and beef entrees rocked, and the dessert was out of this world. We will definitely go back next time we travel to Santa Fe!
Wow!! 5 Stars!! If you are in Santa Fé check this place out! The sashimi scallops!! So light and tender!! The calamari was decent and the aoli and the side sauce yum! The crab cakes had a lot of filler, but that sauce for the crab cakes was out of the park good. The dumplings went down before I could try them. Homemade caesar salad dressing and crostini croutons. The highlight was the filet and the lamb. Wow!! Off the chart delicious. Seasoned to perfection. That mint yogurt was smooth and cheesy. The couscous was excellent. There was a chili sauce underneath that was excellent. The filet was high quality. It was one of the best asparagus preparations I've had. The pureed mushroom was very good also. The deserts were excellent also. That lemon marmalade!!!
classic bistro fare. Several delicious fish options. Don’t leave without having the magnificent mushroom soup!
Our family gather here for a Christmas day dinner. I couldn't praise the whole experience enough. The food, smiles and service was amazing. Worth every dollar
This was the best dining experience we had in Santa Fe! They are a fabulous place to have a celebration like a birthday (complimentary sparkling wine). We didn’t have one thing that wasn’t exactly what we expected. The corn bread was the best unexpected surprise. I would recommend the tartare and bolognese papardelle. The city different cocktail tasted like fresh cranberries that you could easily drink 3 of them. Highly recommend this place. Parking out back.
Took my wife here for her birthday and they really went the extra mile to make the night feel special. All of the courses were excellent, the service was great and the chef, Dale, was very hospitable. I would come back here for any special occasions.
My partner and I were blown away with the food and service at Santacafe. Our waiter, Edgar, went above and beyond to help us celebrate our anniversary, giving me a taste of the soup ahead of ordering it, making the perfect wine pairing with our dessert, and seemed to genuinely care about our experience. I ate the chicken thighs for dinner and they were honestly the best most juicy pieces of chicken I’ve ever had. When the bill came I wish we could have experienced the night all over again. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience, wonderful service and delicious food. The apple acorn squash soup flavor was so unique and just perfect. I didn't get a picture of the soup but trust me it is the best. My wife got Vietnamese Lobster which she is now in love with. I got the bolognese and it was some of the best pasta I've had in Santa Fe. The Lemon cake comes with a marmalade that is out of this world. Update, I recently ate here again and got the filet. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly, but the suprise was the celery root puree. I was doubtful about ordering but it complimented the beef perfectly.
Sister restaurant to Coyote Cafe, upon Carlos' recommendation from Coyote we visited for lunch. We were waiting to be seated and the bartender came over with a small refreshing beverage for us. We enjoyed the Caesar, the pasta of the day with chicken, calamari, and Lobster Rolls and loved it all. I had amazing cocktail as well. Loved it would go back in a heartbeat.
You do not have the appropriate level of stars for this review. Not only is the chef a michelin-trained chef, but the staff was exquisitely trained and taught how to properly manage and attend to patrons - and I haven't gotten to the food just yet. Before we were ever served dinner, we were comped some champagne because of the delay in receiving our pre-dinner drinks. I've eaten at establishments that charged more due to notoriety and still have never encountered such finely trained wait staff. And, they were all truly wonderful to speak with. The cocktails are divine. The Margarita is not to be missed and singularly the most delicious Marg I've ever had. I do not believe I have at my disposal the appropriate amount of adjectives left in my vocabulary to describe how good the food truly is - it was exquisite. It's the most wonderful meal I've had in a very, very long time. The attention to detail, ingredients, and presentation were all fun for me, and it was an adventure, to say the very least. I am so glad I took up friends on the offer to join for dinner. I was exhausted this evening, but the food was an absolute culinary delight. I can not thank the owner of this establishment enough for this experience. Do not miss this restaurant. Compared to pricing in my area, I found the value of what I received from this establishment superior in every way. It's moderately expensive but very fairly priced considering. Well worth every penny. I got carried away with the experience and forgot to take more pictures of the entrees but will post what I took. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
We like this long-time Santa Fe favorite for its clean and crisp dining rooms and sleek modern bar. But we love it for its outdoor courtyard, which is one of the best in Santa Fe. The old trees, bronze sculptures, old well, fountain, and birds on the wall (look for them), and outdoor bar combine to make it a great place to hang out for lunch or dinner. Heaters make it comfy in cooler weather. The food is always great, as is the service, and a surprise awaits as you pass the bar, if you are looking down.
SantaCafe has become one of our favorites in Santa Fe. The food is outstanding and service is equally way above average. Our waiter was Johnathan and he is clearly a professional. He was very knowledgeable about any menu items and was attentive to our needs while allowing us to have our conversations. I highly recommend!!
The best meal I have had in Santa Fe in years. We started with the lobster salad and without a doubt it is the best salad I have ever had. I had the bolognese and my husband had the pierogi; both were exceptional. We will return more often.
SantaCafe is back. This is a long time Santa Fe classic dining place that went through several years of changes in ownership and chefs. I can now saw it is back to its standard of high quality dishes, with creative touches by a talented chef, service staff is meticulous and the atmosphere is what you expect from fine dining. Subdued, elegant but not stuffy. Dress Santa Fe style. One of the top restaurants again in Santa Fe. Fun facts - this was a home built in the mid 1800s and lived in by a defrocked Priest, whom Bishop Lamy was displeased with. Colorful Santa Fe.
"I visited for dinner with a group of 20 people. There were several great suggestions on the menu, and we were offered appetizers of potato with caviar and a mushroom cream soup. For my main courses, I ordered the lobster salad and the lamb chops. I paired the meal with a Sauvignon Blanc and a Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon to complement the flavors. Everything was delicious, and everyone in our group truly enjoyed their dishes!"
Def will return: the cured salmon is 6 star. An elegant restaurant in the former home of Father José Manuel Gallegos (1815-75), with a lovely courtyard filled with scriptures and a fountain, and indoor sections. It’s an in between meal for us, we shared cured salmon and a salad. Both are wonderful, especially the salmon which I think deserves 6 stars.
By far the best dining experience in town! Inside the 1850’s restaurant is filled with charm and character. Outside the patio is best in town. And the food! Fresh, creative, delicious and well made! One of our absolute favorites in Santa Fe! Kyle at the bar and his ‘The Midas Touch’ cocktail was amazing!
Came early for our reservation and was given complementary wine The service was perfect. Friendly helpful quick. The food was wonderful. Lamb chops best I’ve ever eaten. My wife had sea bass also great. Desserts were perfect. Highly recommended
What a amazing experience! Jeremy and Ky were such fantastic servers, truly so knowledgeable about the menu and hospitable. We initially were seated outside, however the chairs were too close together. The manager kindly moved us inside to a different and more comfortable setting. The food wasn’t normal- it was exquisitely beautiful. My favorite personally was the perogi, something made out of just potatoes, cheese and onions made me close my eyes. The salad with the fig purée was delicious, the beef was spectacular, and the sundae was great. We took the toffee date to go and I personally liked it better. All I can say to conclude is MAKE THE RESERVATION, you won’t regret it. This was by far the best restaurant i’ve had in not only in Santa Fe, but my life. Thank you, Santacafe!
I’d give 10 stars for service if I could! Jeremy was the best server I’ve had at any Santa Fe restaurant so far, he really went over and beyond and made the night special. The food was superior to many fine dining places in Santa Fe. I’ve never had elk carpaccio before but it was innovative and delicious. Lobster rolls were delicious, the mushroom soup was on point, the beef filet was cooked perfectly. We took our super discerning friend to dinner here and even he was impressed (he’s rarely impressed) the Bolognese was a winner with him. The bartender makes great mocktails if you’re not a drinker. And the dessert, OMG was soo good too. We enjoyed the bread pudding, banana custard, and cheese cake. It’s going to take a lot for another Santa Fe establishment to top this experience.
My boyfriend and I were having a tough day while on vacation in Santa Fe when we stumbled across this place. We were both impressed and it turned our evening around. The service is outstanding! The flavor and presentation were exceptional. Some of the best food I’ve ever had at this price point!! I will return next time I am in Santa Fe.
Delicious food! Our server Jorge was so wonderful. Gave us the BEST recommendations and was very attentive. Thanks Jorge!! We got four cocktails and they were are pretty delicious. Our favorite was "What Q is having" which was recommended by Jorge. We ordered the morel special appetizer & it went well with the house focaccia. My husband got the lamb which came with couscous and I got the beef bourguignon. Both dishes were big on flavor, well tied together to the general theme of the dish, and presented beautifully. We got the opera torte to share for dessert and it was perfect. I'd go back to try the red velvet one as well. It was a cute date night 💖
Enjoyed my experience here. Food was great, atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and service was top tier. My server, Natasha, was exceptional, especially given how busy they were! I had a soup, spring pea salad, salmon, and coconut dessert. All of it was delicious, a tad pricey, but all worth it. Highly recommend!
Santa Fe has more restaurants per capita than 99% of the cities on Earth. This is one of those Santa Fe restaurants you must dine at. Yes I know the Shed, El Farol, etc. This is fine dining with delicious dishes and extraordinary cocktails. The salmon was delicious and I heard the Chilean Sea Bass was fantastic. The spring pea salad was a perfect compliment. Service is a 5 stars. They are there when you want and step away when you don't, but trust me they are making sure you have everything you need. Not an inexpensive place, but treat yourself and indulge in some fabulous dining. There is a big parking lot in the back, but it does fill up.
We came here to celebrate our engagement and we were both completely blown away by the food, service and atmosphere at Santacafe. Jorge provided phenomenal service and gave the best suggestions for our meal. I LOVED the fluke crudo - super delicious and meaty. The sauce and the truffle sesame rice crisp in the Elk Carpaccio was so good. The crispy red snapper and seared chicken thighs were solid main menu items. We were spoiled with dessert choices. The opera torte and coconut passionfruit tart were some of the best desserts I’ve tried. Basically you cannot go wrong with any of the choices in the menu! We also sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed the ambience well into the evening.
Place was very good. Went in with my family tonight and sat in a quaint room. It was busy but our server Leo, and the rest of the staff, attended to everything we needed. Norteño Margarita was great, mushroom soup was fantastic, steak frites was amazing. Desserts were a tad disappointing especially for the price (maybe just not my flavor of desserts, tuxedo cake, carrot cake and banana cream pie), but everything else more than made up for those. I really enjoyed this place and definitely will be back.
The food is absolutely fabulous - sister restaurant of Coyote Cafe - delicious. The outdoor patio is gorgeous. There was a lot of wait staff. Maybe a touch of training on timing would benefit the Sunday Team. We had come up from ABQ to meet some friends who came down from Taos to celebrate a birthday. We were getting acclimated and enjoying our time together since we hadn't seen each other in a while. At first, we saw the wait staff quite a bit. We felt a bit bombarded with expectations to order quickly. We asked twice for staff to come back. Maybe staff could use little more training to see if a party is ready to order. Anyway, we did order - before we were ready. The food came very quickly - and we really enjoyed it. The wait staff asked if we wanted more drinks and then only brought one of the drinks. That was when we got abandoned. We didn't see anyone for 20 minutes - waiting for the drink and to order dessert. It seems that maybe there could be a slightly better system. Also, picking up dirty plates while taking another plate to pack up is kind of gross. Do one - then the other so I can at least pretend that you've washed your hands after picking up dirty dishes. I would still go to Santacafe again - I just hope there are a few improvements for fine dining. I compare Santa Fe fine dining to East Coast, DC, NYC etc, fine dining - so you have a lot to aspire to. The food measures up 100% - just some tweaking on service. Thank you for reading my review.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The atmosphere inside is lacking comfort or interesting aesthetic. The waitress was very nice but not genuine.
Our second time here. The cocktails were delicious. The soup was wonderful. The salad was okay, nothing special. The shrimp cocktail was quite generous. Overall, the service was outstanding. We would definitely come again when we're hungrier!
Food was good. Unfortunately. Our server seemed to misplaced the order. The chef sent out some tasty morsels to keep things interesting. Two in our party ordered the rack of lamb. Personally, I always understood a rack of lamb to have eight chops. These were only served with four chops. So maybe it's a half rack of lamb and the menu should be updated.
Really wanted to love this restaurant. However, when we walked in for our reservation, the initial hostess who greeted us was quite rude. She seemed irritated that we arrived early, and looked down on us for having our children with us. We were clearly an inconvenience for her, and also for our server. He was dismissive, and seemed to want to be taking care of anyone else but us. He was not really interested in talking to us about the menu, and took forever to help us with simple things like a soda refill for our daughter. However! The sommelier was kind, and gave great recommendations for wine pairings for our meals. There was a second hostess, who seemed to realize we were taken aback by our initial treatment, and she was very nice. The food was pretty good overall. We tried the dumplings - very good with the sauces. I ordered the lamb, which was delicious, if a tad overcooked. My husband order the filet, and it was unevenly cooked; one side was almost raw while the rest of it was really overcooked. The potatoes with his dish were lovely! Dessert was by far the best course of the meal. We tried the opera cake and the key lime tart. Both were excellent. I loved the ambience, and had the initial hostess and our server been a bit kinder, this would have been a great experience. However, being treated as an inconvenience negatively impacted our visit. Hopefully it’s just that they were having an off day, and others in the future will enjoy more pleasant treatment.
Very nice service and atmosphere. Too bad you cannot reserve outside tables. The lobster rolls are not traditional. They are served warm with claw meat rather than cold with tail meat. I like mine better…the salmon and filet were both lovely but the sides are a bit underwhelming…slightly under seasoned. Still overall good experience…the strawberry rhubarb star anise sparkling wine thing….surprisingly nice
Charming atmosphere. Good for a birthday party or anniversary or any special event. Menu was surprising with unusual pairings. Wait staff was quite attentive. All the dishes we ordered (and they are a bit pricey) were presented in a very appetizing manner. The sea bass piece was slightly smaller than expected. But the burger was quite large. Dessert was exquisite. This restaurant is worthy of several visits.
The service was outstanding! Staff were so professional and efficient. I had the salmon appetizer and it was perfect...loved the pop of caviar on top. My friend had the Butternut squash soup and it was delicious. For dinner I had the miso cured cod, which was very moist and tender, but had no flavor. It was overpowered by the fruity sweet sauce that was served with it. It didn't pair well for me, but others may like it. Everyone else in our party loved their dishes. The drinks were on point as well. Overall it was a lovely dining experience and I will return to try other dishes.
I ordered the calamari fir my main meal. It is the best I've ever enjoyed, anywhere. It's crispy, tender, and the lime dipping sauce is delicious. The walls would benefit from having local artists' paintings. It's a cultural staple after all. With bare walls, voices travel and bounce, even though people spoke quietly, guests could hear everyone's conversation, which made it hard to hear the gentleman I had dinner with. The dinner service was excellent, but not interim wait staff needed more experience. She was ok, but not really up to SantaCafe"s standard.
We wanted to love Santa Cafe — the atmosphere is charming and the reputation well-earned — but our experience fell a bit short, particularly in the entrée execution. To begin with the positives: the service was excellent. Jeremy took wonderful care of us, thoughtfully guiding us through diet-appropriate options and providing warm, attentive service throughout the evening. He was a highlight of our visit. The cocktails were excellent and the appetizers showed promise. The pear and burrata salad was visually striking and genuinely enjoyable. The house Caesar, while flavorful, was dressed far too heavily — the components were fresh and appealing, but the balance was overwhelmed by the dressing. Where the evening faltered was the main course. We shared the beef bourguignon, which arrived beautifully presented; however, the meat was room-temperature and surprisingly under-seasoned. Of the four pieces we received to split, one was entirely fat — unexpected and disappointing for a dish at this level. In all, Santa Cafe offers gracious service and a lovely setting, with appetizers that hint at excellence. With more attention to balance in the Caesar and especially to temperature, seasoning, and quality of cuts in the entrée, this could be a truly exceptional dining experience. We hope to return and find it living up to its celebrated reputation.
We ate on the patio. It was a cool night but the heaters made it comfy. Nice courtyard atmosphere. We shared a Caesar salad and calamari- big portions. The lime chili sauce is delicious.
We were a group of 6. Server was cordial and upbeat. Courses were well paced. The pomegranate martini and lobster salad were absolutely delicious. Beef bourguignon was another stand-out. But the rest of the meal was plagued with temperature problems. Cornbread was cool. Soup was room temperature. Steak frites was literally cold to the touch and inedible. And when we asked for some food to be packed to take home, one end of the table received a nicely packaged bag of food boxes while I was handed a cardboard box with the contents thrown in on top of each other. It was insulting and a horrible way to end the night. Overall the meal was not worth what we paid, despite the nice server and the excellent cocktails.
We have dined here many times. I can say if this were the last place on earth to eat I would choose to go hungry. How does this place stay in business? It has been 5 or 6 years since the food was wonderful. We decided to try it one more time for.my husband's birthday. WRong!!! We just came out of Mexico where they have wonderful food prepared by REAL chefs. Santacafe is a real downer. Don't waste your money!!!
I’m not usually one to leave a review but my experience compels me to share. The servers and bussers seemed great, no issues there. The food I think is pretty good but my experiences at this restaurant have been inconsistent. The hostess was incredibly rude. I called in to order pickup and she had zero knowledge of the food (a major reflection on the manager and how he operates this restaurant) so I asked to speak with a server. She hung up on me. I decided to come in person. She claimed I was rude because I asked to speak with someone who could tell me about the dishes. All I asked was if the appetizers were small or medium sized? - The manager decided to serve me. I told him I’d be ready for pickup in an hour. He fired the food up when I arrived. Wasted my time. - They managed to forget almost every sauce for every order I got. - Food was undercooked because he obviously rushed my order - They tried to charge $4 for kitchen without any discussion. They do have it on the menu but since I ordered takeout via the phone and was treated poorly I was never notified. They claim it’s because they’re short staffed from Covid. Covid has been over for what 3 years? Pathetic excuse Manager didn’t prioritize the customer and had attitude about pretty much everything. Loved to offer a cocktail or a glass of wine… I’d prefer ensuring the food comes out on time and well prepared. In order to run an excellent restaurant the people from the top down need to be excellent. Hopefully they can clean up their act, the restaurant has a lot of potential
Overall disappointed with Santa Cafe. This should really be a three star review but because of how this restaurant should be great and how it tries to cut corners and not pay attention to detail, I am giving it a two. A friend gave us a gift certificate and we were excited about going. Long story short, the service was great (mostly central American workers, that is why it is great), the cocktail was great but easily achieved at home to be honest, the appetizer, not bad but very average, and then the main course which was pretty terrible. I hate to say that about food, but it really was. Known for their "steak frites" I was drawn to ordered it and wow, what a disappointment! Meat is of very low quality (very low), "hanger steak"? never heard of it and frites were nothing more than a mountain of fries with no presentation or taste at all. Girlfriend ordered raviolis - she is a pasta expert, these raviolis were filled with mushroom puree and absolutely tasteless. We MAY come back for a drink and some calamari just to get out of the house, but never to eat. It is a pretty place, the food needs tremendous improvement. Holding my breath for the passive aggressive reply from the restaurant - "We are sorry to hear your experience wasn't what you expected... blah, blah" This should not happen in Santa Fe, NM. This restaurant could be flawless - they choose not to be.
Given the many positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth surrounding this restaurant, our expectations were high for a quiet date night. We had an 8:00 PM reservation for two. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. The host who seated us was dismissive and lacked warmth. Our server took our order but did not return for another 45 minutes—only briefly checking in once to ask if we had received our appetizer (deep-fried calamari, which took far too long - go a little lighter on the salt….). As someone who works in the service industry, I understand the challenges of time management, but it genuinely felt like we had been forgotten. The server even comped our appetizer—something we assumed would prompt a manager or staff member to check in with us about our dining experience. Unfortunately, that never happened. The manager did bring our first round of drinks and was visibly active on the floor, yet neither they nor our server checked in on our food after it was delivered. The lack of follow-up and attentiveness throughout the meal was disappointing.
It's a nope. First time to Santa Fe. We arrived at 5 pm on a Monday for our 5 pm reservation. As soon as we were seated, I used the restroom located next to the bar. There are 3 single restrooms there. I walked in and a female server was in there using the restroom and she did not lock the door. Strike 1. Then I came back to the table and ordered a Tempranillo wine. The waiter delivered a savignon blanc to me. Strike 2. I told him that was not mine. The sweet corn breadsticks (complimentary) were delicious. The sweet pea salad was awesome, as were the pork dumpling appetizers. The filet mignon was terrible. Strike 3. First of all, the steak was too salty. We travel and eat out a lot and I know too salty when I taste it. They just ruined a $54 steak. Also, it tasted like pine needles! (Rosemary?) Then the sauce it was sitting on was completely cold. The potato gratin tasted like an old shoe. I couldn't even eat it. The asparagus was tough and not tasty. We would never dine here again.
Gave my pregnant girlfriend food poisoning last night. She thinks her lobster was undercooked. We had the Valentine's day menu last night with my Aunt and Uncle. We paid over $600 and now my pregnant girlfriend is vomiting and has extreme diarrhea. Not to mention it took a very long time for them to seat us, take our order and bring out each course. The service wasn't horrible, but we were waiting for everything a lot longer than we should have. The food presentation was nice and everything looked delicious, but it was too bland for my taste. The quality and untimely service didn't match the price. This was very disappointing as this is supposed to be a high end restaurant.
