One of the best place for coffee and brunch in Santa Monica. It's a bit of a line, but a lot of indoor and outdoor seating area
Tartine quickly become my preferred morning spot. I always love the idea of placing my order at the counter and selecting my own seating. Here it is. And got even more. Outstanding food, excellent service. And the scenery are captivating. Returning over and over again🤍
The morning bun here is to die for. Perfectly flaky and the center texture is nice and chewy.
I love this coffee shop but this time I decided to go there for dinner w my daughter for my birthday. And we absolutely loved it. Beautiful ambience great food and an excellent service. The evening manager Alonzo was so sweet and kind. Showed us a great hospitality.

The evening manager Alonzo was so sweet and kind. Showed us a great hospitality. Thank you Alonzo for making my birthday a memorable one. Our waitress Audrey was amazing too! The service was implacable. We will definitely be going back there again soon!🙏🙏
The restaurant has only recently started opening in the evenings. Previously, it was better known for its café and delicious baked goods. We decided to visit the restaurant on a whim, were greeted very warmly, and were given a good table. Although we were tourists from Germany, we felt like part of the “family and friends” from the very beginning. The food is excellent (we had pizza, meatballs, and a delicious chocolate cake), and the wine selection is outstanding. The bread is delicious! The service is excellent and very friendly—we had the most wonderful evening there during our entire three-week trip to California. The restaurant manager is super nice and friendly, and we had very pleasant conversations with him. You can tell that he has ancestors from Europe and South America—he combines different hospitable cultures. If you're in LA or Santa Monica, you should definitely eat here! We wish the restaurant continued success!
One of the best brunch spots I’ve found in L.A.! High-quality food with a great variety of pastries, cakes, and toasts. Coffee is served in ceramic cups when dining in — such a lovely touch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the service is excellent. Best of all, the price truly reflects the quality. Everything — food, service, ambiance — is worth it. Highly recommend!
Tartine Santa Monica lives up to its reputation as a top-tier bakery. We visited on a Saturday morning at 10 AM and found a line out the door, but we still managed to get a table without too much trouble. We tried the country sourdough, pain au chocolat, croissant, morning bun, and brownie—each one a standout in its own way. The croissant was incredibly flaky, with perfect layers and a satisfying crisp. The pain au chocolat had a deep, rich chocolate filling that balanced well with the buttery pastry. The morning bun was gooey and caramelized, with a sticky sweetness that made it a must-try. The brownie was dense, fudgy, and decadent, perfect for chocolate lovers. The country sourdough was excellent, with a beautifully crisp crust and a tangy, chewy interior—great for eating on its own or pairing with spreads. Prices are on the higher side, with pastries around $7 each and the sourdough loaf at $16, but the quality justifies the cost. If you’re in Santa Monica and looking for an excellent bakery, Tartine is absolutely worth the visit!
The morning light let in by the antique grilled windows reflects off of the vaulted ceiling and illuminates the interior, creating a warm atmosphere. I couldn't help but be a little envious of those who arrived early enough to enjoy their coffee at one of the small tables in the side aisle. The pain au chocolat was delicious with a perfect interior lattice and a dark chocolate center. The servers were quick and polite. I had a wonderful experience at Tartine.
I’ve blown my entire per diem before on Tartine pastries alone in SF. And if I had work travel in LA, I would, here, too. This is undoubtedly the prettiest Tartine location to date, as I confirmed during a brief LA visit. It features a gorgeous terrace garden out back with shaded seating. I first visited on a Thursday during the busy weekday lunch window. The Farmers Bowl salad was life-changing: large farro grains, each kernel cooked to perfect consistency, the right balance of pistachio pistou, a lovely presentation of pomegranate and grape among clouds of feta. Simply scrumptious. It was so good, I returned that Sunday to have it again. Last I checked the Farmers Bowl is an exclusive at the Santa Monica locations: Santa Monica, Venice. Since returning back home I’ve endeavored to reproduce this dish, with all the same ingredients, in my own kitchen—a pale imitation, but a small reminder of why the west coast truly surpasses all when it comes to bakeries and fresh farm-style cuisine. Like any other Tartine location, the pastries are outstanding. Highlights: banana cream tart sells out quickly (others—lemon, coconut—are good too), lemon poppyseed tea cake is superb (reheating at home brings out some nice hidden flavors), bacon chive scone is downright delicious (and I had it re-toasted at two-days old), tres leches cake was rich and moist, morning bun is always a staple. Had I had more luggage carry-on space, I would’ve taken with me a loaf or two of their breads. Dine-in service was great. No wait staff, but they bus and take orders to your table by number. Staff were polite and helpful with my first-timer questions. The atmosphere is overall very open, inviting. If you’re unlucky you may find yourself overhearing a couple of startup bros the next table over, and have to endure their vapid upspeak. But that’s anywhere in LA/SF. Bring a friend or two, and this would make a wonderfully pleasant afternoon. Some other tips. There’s plenty of street parking around, if you want to forgo the $1/45min lot fee. I see their rationale though: it’s enticing to stay longer. This location also has dog treats, which I can attest are dog approved. Either it was the other pastries or my friend’s dog was able to sniff out, without me opening a single box, that I had brought back goods for her too. TL;DR: Farmers Bowl salad = perfection. Try it!
I recently visited Tartine and the experience was absolutely delightful. Everything we tried was delicious, but the croissants were particularly outstanding—perfectly flaky on the outside with a buttery, soft interior that practically melts in your mouth. The outdoor vineyard seating added a special charm to the meal, making it a serene and picturesque spot to enjoy breakfast. Whether you’re there for a quiet solo morning or a relaxed gathering with friends, the ambiance at Tartine truly enhances the experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!
Delicious coffee and pastries! Street parking but usually have to walk a block or so / cross a busy street or park in the lot for $. Always crowded on weekends with plenty of outdoor seating. Not many outlets. In a converted church which is great!
Tartine in Santa Monica is a delightful spot for breakfast or brunch, especially when entertaining out-of-town guests. Their avocado toast is a standout—priced at $20, it’s a bit of a splurge, but the quality of the bread and fresh toppings make it worthwhile. The bakery is renowned for its exceptional bread, scones, and an array of mini desserts that are hard to resist. The ambiance is inviting, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Ordering is done at the counter, and the staff brings your selections to the table. Parking is conveniently available in a neighboring lot, and there are public restrooms outside. One of our favorite routines is picking up our order and heading towards the Santa Monica Pier to enjoy our meal on the benches—it’s a lovely way to start the day. While some items, like the $6 sparkling apple juice in a tiny can, feel overpriced, the overall experience and quality make it a worthwhile occasional indulgence. If you haven’t visited yet, Tartine is a must-try for its outstanding bread and pastries.
Love, hate relationship with Tartine. Food is very good, baked goods are to die for. The vibe of building is top notch. However, their staff is extremely rude with a “what do you want, I don’t care for changes mentality”. We had our food come out wrong two different times and each time they purposefully seemed to of taken long and longer. Parking is 45 min free then charged every 15 minutes after that.
The service staff is wonderful but I'm very disappointed in the food quality lately. I've been going to this location of tartine almost weekly for the last year. And lately the farmers bowl salad is half the size that it used to be. There is barely any dressing and the portion is so small the bowl looks less than 1/4 of the way full. It's not worth how expensive it is when they have shrunk the portion to be so small. I'm not sure if they are reducing serving sizes to save money but this has been my experience the last 4 times I've gotten the farmers bowl. It's very disappointing. If they don't fix this, I'll stop going.
I was going to be in the area for another experience and figured I'd look up some well rated places for brunch. The exterior of Tartine was quaint so I decided I would give them a shot. Tartine has a lovely covered outside eating area and the interior of the restaurant is quite nice. Outside of that I have to say that my expereince was middling, at best. Tartine is a general counter service restaurant which I do enjoy however for the prices they are charging I would expect a more personal touch to service. When we got to the counter the cashier was polite but outside of our interaction with her there was no real interaction with any of the other employees. Even when our food came the server was brusque and started setting the food down before asking either my friend or myself who ordered which plates. I dont necessarily mind quick and prompt service but there's a difference between efficency in communication and just sloppy serving. I figured at least the $17 Omelette would be qutie good. I was mistaken. I've honestly had a better omelette at Waffle House. The white cheddar completely overpowered all the other flavors in the omelette. There's no real reason to add herbs to an omelette if the cheddar is just going to drown out everything else. Especially since Eggs have a soft flavor themselves it mostly tasted like I was eating just cheese. Additionally, the Omelette was over cooked. I'd wager by at least a minute. There was little moisuture still within the eggs but it was ok. Just not worth $17 at all. To accompany the Omelette the dish came with dressed spring mix lettuce and some bread. The bread was fairly decent and probably the best part of the dish. I also ordered a side of bacon which is 2 slices, cooked perfectly in my opionion. However that did cost almost $5 which, just... why so much? I did not try their pastries but I will say they looked good at least on display. The circumsied ecalir was particularly funny to see. When you see it, you'll understand. Overall, Tartine is a quaint place to enjoy a meal but unfortunately the meal's do not live up to the cost.
