Im a local of Savannah and found this on Resy. It’s in the DeSoto hotel which is a nice spot. Honestly for the quality of the food and service, the price was excellent. PJ was our server and the whole staff were very friendly and helpful! I would absolutely recommend this for a nice relaxing dinner.
Breakfast is so good. Avocado toast is huge and so filling. Dinner is great, too. Had the oysters and cornbread to start. I had the mushroom bolognes and my husband had the steak. Both were delicious. The drinks are a treat too. Def worthy of trying if you're in the area or just staying at the hotel.
1540 Room is incredible! A must dine experience! Chef Collin Clemons farm to table creations give life to your taste buds. We jumped in just for appetizers and drinks for the first time. The cocktails are creative and very tasty. All juices are squeezed fresh. The pork belly was fantastic. We also tried the grilled oysters. They melt in your mouth; so tender! The tahini was the best we’ve ever had. Kelly, our waiter was excellent and very friendly. Being first-timers to Savannah, he gave us many sightseeing recommendations and was very attentive. We would highly recommend 1540 Room to anyone wishing to have a very memorable experience.
Our food at the 1540 Room was amazing, so flavorful and complex in flavor and technique. We really enjoyed the beets app and the steak tartare with the curated egg yolk. For mains, we had the duck breast and the steak. So delicious. Kelly was our server and he was informative and friendly!
I popped into 1540 Room during my stay at The DeSoto. The restaurant staff was very friendly. The gentleman at the hostess stand was full of energy and suggestions and a really great start to my day. I came in for breakfast before heading out for the day and they offer quite a few filling breakfast options. I had the avocado toast that's topped with as egg, spinach, and tomatoes. So delicious and it carried me at least until lunch. I also stopped in before leaving and picked-up breakfast to-go. The smoked salmon and toasted bagel with accruements were perfect to eat on my way to the airport. Overall, 1540 Room is a good option for breakfast or if you just don't feel like venturing outside of the hotel to find food.
Simply wow. This was hands down the best meal we had in Savannah. The menu is innovative and the food is abundant in flavors. The duck confit was the most exquisitely executed version of this dish I have ever had -- perfectly crisp skin and moist and tender meat. We also had the Turkish manti, which was different from anything we've ever tried but the textures and flavors were so unique and perfect. Kelly was our server and he did such a great job walking us through the menu and making us feel welcome. I only wish we would have arrived hungrier so that I could have ordered more dishes.
Kelly at the 1540 Room restaurant was attentive and had stellar recommendations for drink pairings with our dinner. The food was phenomenal. The chef even came out and helped us identify a song from his curated playlist. The bartender, the one they called the "Mad Professor", made us outstanding drinks (one which wasn't even in the menu but had been in the past). My husband and I had dined there as part of our honeymoon tour and we loved it. I can't recommend it enough. If you want an intimate experience that pulls on your heartstrings, you can't find a more emotionally moving experience than this. It IS the epitome of dining in Savannah.
Our breakfast was delicious! Great service too. The potatoes were perfectly crispy, and my pimento cheese sausage and egg biscuit was to die for!
I came here for Valentine’s Day with my wife and had an amazing experience. I ordered the Valentine’s Day special menu which consisted of lime and chile poached fish for a starter, duck leg confit as a main, and strawberry and cream tart for dessert. Every dish was plated to perfection and was delicious. The courses were also paired perfectly with four rose wines. Our server was very knowledgeable and provided excellent descriptions of the dishes and wines. I highly recommend eating at this restaurant!
This stately room sets the expectation for the striking food and admirable wine selection. Couldn’t have ask for a more spectacular evening. Staff were on point with the tables interests and needs. The farm to table menu speaks for itself. Our taste buds were tantalized with each bite. I’ll yearn my return.
This was my first trip to Savannah. Always look for the “best of” and indeed this spot lived up to the hype. The house made sour dough with habanero butter was devine. I started with the granita oysters which were so tasty, perfect balance. For my entree had the lamb sausage which was the best of all. Highly recommend 1540 and Trish who was helpful, on point, and really made the southern hospitality shine through.
Fine dining at its best. The 1540 is a locally sourced farm to table, fine dining establishment. One of the best diners my wife and I have ever had. My wife enjoyed the local catch, and I enjoyed the pork chop. Pork is my favorite meat. I ordered it well done and it was cooked perfect. Homemade bread with butter. The oysters came with their own house made hot sauce. Desserts were amazing. You must make a reservation. Our reservation was made months in advance. Looking forward to my next experience at the 1540 very soon.
Amazing food, amazing people, thx to the person who served us, unfortunately i am not sure about his name, but he was very professional but friendly, he knew about our culture and surprisingly some food comes from our Iranian culture like Sholezard 👀, he was very funny guy, thank u for your good humour & best of luck, food was amazing again 😍😋😋😋hope see u soon🥂🍾
Menu is eclectic but Kelley explained it's a tribute to Savannah being a trading city and having spice connections to the rest of the world. We had beets and duck Scotch egg to start - beets were nicely done with the mint and lemon just giving them the lift they needed. Duck Scotch egg was perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and runny egg yolk in the middle. And the duck was delicious as well Nicely paired with a glass of pinot noir. For entrees - the merguez sausages could maybe have had a little more char but the tomatoey - eggplanty sauce had a wonderful smokiness to it. Duck Confit meanwhile had crispy skin and melting flesh - great with the greens and a crispy sweet potatoey hash brown. Best meal I had in a while - thanks to Kelley and the rest of the staff for making it a great experience. I saw other reviews dinging the atmosphere and I agree it's a high ceilinged and maybe a bit cool, but I was there for the food and company and that was excellent.
Amazing food and great waiter too. One of the few places in Savannah I really consider fine dining, with fresh and local ingredients and a small well curated menu. Try the steak tartare!
Fusion is the only word that comes to mind to describe the food, but that really undervalues what it is. Every sip and every bite was packed with flavor in layer after layer. An absolute delight. Savory drinks with smoked paprika; delectable semolina cornbread with smoked peach butter; the most amazing fresh bread (I can't even tell you what it was beyond flavor packed and delicious); mains fusing southern, Jamaican, and middle eastern, and deserts you want to stretch out the evening to savor. It was a $100 each but absolutely worth it for two hours of incredible.
Make a reservation while you can! The chef is a rising star. We were visiting Savannah for a week and enjoyed many of the top restaurants and bars. A friend of ours mentioned the 1540 Room and said we must try the steak tartar. I haven’t had steak tartar in years and I was intrigued that a young chef would take on this classic dish. It was amazing! Topping the tartar is a house made marinated duck yoke that pares perfectly with the hand cut, locally sourced beef. Im sorry I missed taking a photo because the presentation was so much fun I forgot. My husband and I selected wines by the glass. Our server Kelly has a beyond typical knowledge of the wine list and excellent service skills. You can tell he is a professional from the moment you enter the dining room. After our steak tartar experience, we shared an autumn salad with smoked beets and butternut squash, yum. For our mains we had the homemade lamb sausage with couscous and the roast duck. Both were locally sourced, home made sausages and delicious. For desert Kelly suggested a glass of sparkling to pair with our Housemaid meringue, ice cream and topped with a fresh peach sauce. This was the end to a perfect evening and the highlight of our trip. We look forward to returning to see what the chef is planning next.
My husband and I reserved a table at the 1540 Room for our anniversary. The updated atmosphere is the seamless mix of modern and cozy, with plush chairs, intimate place settings, and large windows that showcase the vibrancy of Savannah nightlife. Our server, Kelly, was warm and attentive. It was clear from the start that he was a seasoned vet of the Savannah food scene. He took the time to guide us through three courses, each of which complemented the others perfectly. He, the hostess, the bartender, and other waitstaff worked together to keep the front of the house running like a well-oiled machine. Our food was phenomenal, with an unforgettable blend of classic and unconventional flavors. My steak was cooked to perfection and was accompanied by a deliciously bold sauce. My husband enjoyed the Duck Confit with greens and caramelized onions. Bonus points for offering a Temperance menu! Altogether, I can’t recommend the 1540 Room enough! Thank you for helping us celebrate 16 years ♥️
Great dining experience! The menu does change, since most of the items we saw in other reviews weren't on the menu, but I find that exciting, and we had fun browsing and trying things. Some of the flavors we had were very interesting, and unique. I really enjoyed it. The ambiance is very nice and the staff is attentive. Highly recommend it.
1540 is excellent. Chef Collins is a genius in the kitchen, every single meal was beyond delicious. We had the steak tartare as an appetizer, the presentation was 10/10 and the taste lived up to also be a 10/10. For entrees we got the Steak and Menguez, Trish recommended the Menguez as it was one of the specialities of the Chef. Again these plates delivered perfection. Fantastic experience hope to come back during a different season for a different menu.
Just amazing, Our waitress Trishia was amazing, we were celebrating our 13th anniversary. All that we order was elegant presentation and full of flavor. Définition coming back.
Wonderful Informal dining experience from start to finish. Menu changes with the seasons and offers local ingredients. Prompt, friendly service from all including the waiter and the manager. The menu reads like a neighborhood Paris bistro...the frisée salad comes with a small poached egg and crumbled bacon. And the crispy pork belly is done so perfectly. The pork belly is cooked just long enough to render much of the fat leaving the chunks crispy on the outside yet soft and moist inside. another winner is the duck confit which is served with a local peach jam, crispy onion rings and a chewy farro risotto. Just delicious. The wine list is great as well. I love that they offer a lot of moderately priced bottles so you don’t break the bank to have a decent wine with your meal...Just like Paris! I know how to find inexpensive wines, apparently so does the wine buyer at the 1540 room. This is casual enough to visit often yet the vibe, the decor and service justifies a special occasion event as well. Can’t wait to return.
Very trendy and nice restaurant hidden inside the DeSoto hotel in Savannah, Georgia. Love how light this place was . We had dinner here. Our waitress was awesome. Simply brilliant. Food omg, it was a delight. It was good to the extreme. Compliments to the cheff. Everything was on point. Amazing place with amazing food and even better food .
My boyfriend and I come here often, their dinners and brunches are equally amazing! I’d like to highlight the pastas, desserts, basically everything. You really can’t go wrong here. Not to mention the restaurant itself is like something out of Chefs Table. Also the tourists somehow don’t know about this spot yet so enjoy it while you can.
What an amazing experience! From the ambiance to the delicious food. 32 ounce prime rib is a must, cooked perfectly with some grilled asparagus & vegetables. The pork shank and beef carpaccio was so tasty. Louie, Gabbi, Gary, & Steve were such a delight for a party of 8, including my two year old. Everyone from 1540 was very attentive as well as the valet staff. Everyone on their feet with such a gracious smile, even the valet having to bear out the chillier nights! Valet parking available for the guests dining.
What a great dinner to end our lovely visit to this southern charm. Kelly and Trisha made our night even more special. Thank you making us feel so welcome and the food was beyond our expectations. Highly recommended!
My wife and I had dinner here after a Halloween concert in the hotel. Food and service were top notch and everything you'd want from a very nice restaurant. We shared a Kofta appetizer, I had Merguez as a main and my wife had the steak, rare. That was all excellent. For dessert it was Sholeh Zard for me and the Semolina Cake for wifey. Again, it was fabulous.
After first visiting the 1540 room about two years ago, I have become a loyalist. My husband and I have come alone on numerous occasions and always recommend this great restaurant to friends and family. This is where we take our out of town guests; it will not disappoint. There has not been a single item on the menu that we have tried and not enjoyed. The scallops and pork belly (pictured below) are hard to beat. They come perfectly cooked on a sampling of the most delicious creamed corn. The skillet chicken pot pie is also a favorite. Ingredients we don't typically enjoy taste delicious prepared by this team. We continue to go and always order a full course meal with beer, wine or cocktails because the cuisine is top notch and we want to try as many things as possible each trip. The most recent trip our party tried quite a variety of dishes: The foie gras and waffles as well as the crispy pork belly appetizers were on point. From the bar we enjoyed the DeSoto Rita, rum & rye, the SPF 50/50 grapefruit radler, and a lemonade. All were tasty. In addition to the main dishes listed above, we also tried the crab stuffed trout which was delicious. For dessert we ordered two pieces of the rhubarb cheesecake and a chocolate bomb. The ladies would have enjoyed a little more rhubarb garnishing the top of the cheesecake to contrast the richness, but the lemon "ice cream" that came with the cheesecake could have been a dessert alone (we all wanted more!!!). The slices of cheesecake were easily shared by two. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. The service is always perfection. I cannot recommend this place enough.
really really great place! best servers on the planet. what a great atmosphere! kathryn will take the best care of you! kelly is an amazing server and he’s got the best attitude ever! Def will be back!
I definitely recommend to check out this place. We stayed at DeSoto hotel and couldn’t make reservations at any popular places for dinner, so went to this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with the meal. Try steak tartar, loved how they serve it.
Simply put, this restaurant is ON POINT! From the minute you walk in the front door, the service, quality, and professionalism is top notch! Our food was absolutely amazing, from appetizer to desert! Our waiter, Larry, was exceptional as well! You can clearly see the level of excellence the Chef & GM have for their team! I’d give 10 stars if possible!
They did a 7 course meal with wine pairings for 8 of us. It was exceptional! An excellent adventure of unique dishes and boutique wines. We can't rave enough about how great the experience was.
Delishisness! Clean and stylish. Our server was sweet and attentive. The music was enjoyable and at the perfect volume level. Reasonable prices for the city.
My wife and I, celebrating eight years of wedded bliss, could not have been happier with our experience eating here at the 1540 Room. Our server, Blythe, was well informed of the menu and wine options. She sold us on the octopus appetizer and it was among the best food I have ever tasted; the steak tartare was excellent as was the raviolio cooked with a soft egg on the inside - remarkable flavors when blended with the other ingredients. We were very happy with the wine selections: the Fuso 21 Barbera is a revelation of earthy, rustic Italian wine. The lambrusco rouge was dry and bubbly - not sweet. Perfect for the menu. We saved a few sips to pair with a decadent, chocolate dessert. Definitely a memorable meal and experience - we will be back!
One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. Farm to table amazing flavors. Definitely a must try. My favorite in Savannah.
Best Meal of 2024 at Room 1540 Dinner at Room 1540 was amazing. Every dish was innovative and delicious. The duck with marinated blueberries was a standout. Our server, Kevin, was great and made the whole experience even better. Definitely the best meal we've had this year!
I wanted to share my wonderful dining experiences at your 1540 Room restaurant. During a breakfast on my birthday, the charming atmosphere was complemented by the exceptional service provided by Jessica (I believe that was her name) and the hostess/manager. Their attentiveness truly made my day special. I enjoyed the avocado toast with eggs and a bloody mary, while my husband savored the ham and cheese omelette, also with a bloody mary. On another breakfast, I had an egg, bacon, and cheese croissant (very large and tasty), my husband had biscuits and gravy (the best in town), and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed a yogurt parfait with fruit and granola. It was a generous portion and we were happy with the quality. Our dinner experience was equally impressive, with a great wine/beverages and food selection. My husband chose an Abstract by Orin Swift, and I enjoyed a Vinho Verde. The beef tartare starter was a creative twist on a traditional dish, complete with table-smoked presentation. For our entrees, I had the mushroom Bolognese with handmade tagliatelle, my husband raved about his beef, and my daughter was delighted with her generous portion of tender and well-seasoned pork. The olive oil ice cream with brownies and candied pecans was a divine discovery. Oh, forgot to mentioned in-house made bread and butter. Delicious! The chef is clearly very talented. I must also mention the peanut butter Old Fashioned with peanut butter tequila—a perfect end to the evening. The service was fantastic, with a server who knew the menu inside and out and offered great descriptions and suggestions, and struck a perfect balance of professionalism and attentiveness. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and I thank Room 1540 for such a treat.
This restaurant is literally amazing. When we got here it was empty and I was skeptical on how our night would go because of that. Kelly, our waiter, was so attentive while also giving us time to enjoy our food. 5 star service for him. Shareable: Cornbread Chili peppers Duck egg And the khata fish Main: Pork chop Steak Kelly explained all of the meals we wanted to try beautifully and even suggested things based off of what we said we liked. He also went into the history of the restaurant and why the certain spices are used. The bartender (Emanuel I think?) was very accommodating and even came to our table to see how we liked our drinks. He accommodated me by making a drink with no citrus that wasn’t on the menu. He was very attentive and impressive with the cocktails. I would recommend this place to anyone in the Savannah area. Anyone visiting would be wise to go here. Hard off to the chef for making amazing dishes and to the staff for being amazing at what they do.
Wow, just wow! We sampled most of the menu and were impressed with just about everything. The portions were generous, pricing was fair, plating was perfection, vibe was quiet warm romantic, seats were comfortable, music was "okay" - classical or jazz would have aligned better, but now we're just nitpicking. The bread was tough and kinda cold, but complimentary, homemade, and the serving size was fine as a "sauce transport." The restaurant is honestly fantastic overall and you can actually hear your loved ones speak! The service really shines here and the space is beautiful. Thank you.
Do yourself a favor, and just order whatever Paul recommends. Fantastic experience start to finish, the food is incredible but what makes it even better is the presentation. The steak tartar is presented in a super cool smoked table side reveal but it’s the best tasting tartar we’ve ever had. We had the grilled oysters with mole butter which has ruined us for normal butter. Main course was the NY strip with their house made aged Worcestershire sauce (which they should bottle and sell) and the Lamb sausage. We couldn’t possible entertain dessert but certainly wanted to. Cocktails were top notch, but what put it over the top for us was Paul’s attention to detail and the perfect mix of attentiveness and letting us enjoy our meal. It’s inside the DeSoto hotel- easier to find than you think.
Always sad when I have to leave this beautiful city... but the sting was lessened by a wonderful meal at the 1540 Room. I thoroughly enjoyed the Merguez lamb sausage entree...beautifully seasoned and portioned, not to mention the 2 lovely raw oysters that opened my meal. My husband was very happy with his NY Strip, seasoned and cooked to perfection . Coffee and and the olive oil ice cream dessert rounded out the meal. Our waiter P.J. took superb care of us, tempting our taste buds with a Pinot Noir tasting ahead of the meal, and making superb recommendations along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be grateful for the memories created, until we are able to visit this fine city once again!!!
The food was very good but it would be nice to have higher/better quality steak options. The homemade sourdough bread was outstanding, the shrimp cocktail was so good, and the homemade sauces are top notch. They offer non-alcoholic (very good) and alcoholic drink options and The Sholeh Zard Dessert was so unique and so good!
I must agree with Whitney Ince on their review. This place is not bad, but not 5-star worthy. I came for steak, but was suprised that there was only one steak option, Coulotte. The steak is tender, however, extremely overseasoned (I think steaks are overseasoned to mask the low cut grade). The sauce underneath and the steak have contrast flavors which throws the entire dish off. Simple solution: salt and pepper the steak and allow the sauce to flavor the dish. Also, ordered medium but my steak was basically rare in the middle. The test of a good steak is how well it's cooked during busy hours. I did not send it back, but made mention to staff who agreed it was rare. All in all, $38 for the dish is reasonable with the expectation of 3-star. Service: Best I have recieved in Savannah! Ambiance: Chef's kiss. The open kitchen show is a great concept!
The food is super fresh service was amazing , the only thing is the menu is small not much to choose from that’s why I can’t give a better rating , also the bartender was very bad at making cocktails. Sadly the bar next door was so much better on serving drinks. I had him make 2 drinks and both times was very Bad. The food is good because Everything is farm to table which makes this place very special place . The server was so nice and friendly even when the restaurant was closing soon he didn’t rush us and made the experience wonderful. It’s a good place to eat if you’re staying at the hotel. But not to choose from other options around if you’re a tourist . I wouldn’t say it was that great but it’s good. 3.5 if I could.
Not sure how this restaurant has over four stars in reviews. The steak, tartare, appetizer and watermelon salad. We’re both good however, the entrées were a major disappointment. My wife had the duck which was chewy and all the vegetables were in a watery sauce. I had the steak which was well seasoned. However, the cut of meat was very poor and the squash Vegetable was not seasoned and the potatoes were also underwhelming. For the cost of the meal many better options in Savannah
Food was good but not amazing for the price. Most expensive dinner we had on our trip and probably the most generic. The dessert was the only thing that was interesting. We arrived early for our reservation due to inclement weather. The restaurant was at about 50% capacity and they made us wait the full 30 minutes before they would seat us. Would absolutely recommend the Grey or Collins Quarters over 1540.
I applaud the farm to table concept, but execution of the menu was lacking. Attended Christmas Eve dinner in 2023 and it was good, but this evening, was poor. We started with grilled oysters, little flavor, mustard chicken had a dry rub, middle eastern favor profile: there was a dry rub on the chicken that was dry and not appealing. chicken was juicy, but for $31, a small breast is not an attractive or consumable value proposition. Ceasar kale salad dressing was interesting, the cornbread had good flavor but required the accompanying butter/apple accouterment. wait staff was friendly, though did not know table numbers on where to deliver food. wish them the best.
Let me start off by saying how short staffed they are and how slow the service is. The manager isn’t very friendly to say the least. And the food- not very good.
This was our primary 22nd anniversary dinner reservation for our anniversary weekend getaway. We were disappointed from start to finish, primarily due to a complete lack of polished service typically commensurate with a dinner at a restaurant in this price range - not to mention a restaurant hyped to a high farm to table standard. We were dressed well, but were not welcomed. Nobody was at the reception podium when we entered, and rather than being greeted with charm and delight, it was as if we were disturbing someone by entering - I believe the woman who arrived after a moment asked what we needed. We had a reservation and the restaurant was practically empty at 7:30pm on a Saturday - yet it was as if we were bothering her. The wait staff were warmer, but awkward- lecturing us on the availability of oysters (my wife is french - oysters on the half shell are common in brasseries) before she politely let him know she was allergic to shellfish. Sodas that should have been served with ice were served without - extra glasses of ice were brought out- then filled with water on some occasions by the second server, who also haphazardly dropped my appetizer onto the table just in front of me. silverware wasn’t set timely for main courses, a second drink never brought, and so forth. The food was good, but the lack of congruity with the website menu (which had been discontinued end of June to make way for a lighter summer menu) left our party without some of the critical dishes for everyone to be happy (our oldest son was with us for the weekend and would have liked the bolognese - Italy is rather warm in July - they don’t discontinue bolognese for the summer because it’s heavier). Anyway, the cous cous preparation with merguez was excellent (common dish in France of North African influence) and the grouper was delicious - if only it weren’t served plated over a cold side dish. The lighter summer papardelle was nicely presented, but my son found the pesto a bit oily and my wife found the pasta lacking salt. No efforts were made to recognize our anniversary… neither at reception, nor from our server at table-side, nor during dessert. Wexford Irish Pub did a better job celebrating our anniversary with us than 1540 Room. Overall, it felt like we were walking into a fairly standard hotel lobby restaurant, which certainly wasn’t the experience we anticipated based on the 4.6 star google rating and glowing reviews from some guests. While aspects of the food - particularly the presentation - were special, the overall experience at the restaurant was inappropriate for a special occasion and I would not be inclined to return despite retaining some optimism for the chef and sous-chef, and their creativity.
The experience started out promising. Greeted by hostess, provided nice table and waiter came over immediately to welcome us and asked for a few moments to return as he needed to "wrap-up a few item". Context, three guests on a friday evening at 7PM. The issues then started... 1. Ten minutes pass before anyone came to take our drink order. 2. Another ten minutes to get our drink. 3. Order placed and appetizers come in a respectable amount of time. 4. Thirty minutes pass before dinners arrive. 5. Steak is medium well not medium rare & it takes 10 minutes before being able to flag down staff & waiter to return. Another 20- minutes for replacement to arrive Note: everyone else is finished eating and replacement steak is "rare", not medium rare. 6. Desserts offered and passed on. 7. Fifteen minutes between asking for check & received. Not surprisingly the experience was not worth $240 in our opinion, service is lacking and kitchen quality control is nonexistent. Do not recommend
