We went to Peter Pause for the first time today. The food is so fresh and the service is great. My husband had the eggs Benedict with spinach and said it’s the best he’s ever had. I had two eggs, over easy, home fries and home baked bread made into toast. Delicious. Can’t believe it took us so long to get to this place. Prices are great too. We’ll be back!!
Peter Pause is a Schenectady classic. Delicious breakfast, friendly atmosphere, old-timey feel. I recently had an egg, cheese, avocado, and tomato sandwich on their Italian bread (bread was buttered and grilled). It was sinfully good.
This is how it should be…. Great and friendly service with excellent food! Cheers from Germany
This was definitely a wonderful, casual spot for breakfast. My wife and I had the Fre-shovacado(pronounced free-sha-va-ca-doo) which was fantastic. We also shared a HUGE short stack of pancakes which were nice and fluffy. The staff were also very friendly and knew most people by name. Overall, great spot for breakfast. Would definitely come back again. Highly recommended!👍👍
This restaurant has a fairly humble exterior which may make you reluctant to enter. But I assure you that the food here is top notch! I was served the best corned beef hash I've ever eaten. It contained easily recognizable chunks of corned beef which were crisped up beautifully as opposed to the typical dark brown cubes of meat ordinarily served at most establishments. I also strongly recommend that you get rye toast with whatever meal you select, as it is nothing like the rye bread you'd find anywhere else. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Schenectady, which will undoubtedly include breakfast at this restaurant.
I recently visited Peter Pause, and the first word that comes to mind is cozy 🥰 It's a small, inviting spot with just 2-3 people running the kitchen. I think it might be my new favorite breakfast place in the area, and I can't believe they've been family-operated since 1958! I had their grilled pumpkin muffin (YUMMMMMM), pumpkin coffee, and the SPP sandwich -- sausage patty with provolone and peppers with Mac n' cheese on the side. That sandwich was so juicy and thick! My boyfriend ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette and corned beef hash on the side, which was fantastic. I can't wait to return and try their pancakes next time ^_^
Awesome diner! If you want breakfast this is the place! The staff are awesome and super helpful! We went as a large group and they accommodated us as best they could. The food was very good and came out really quickly for what was ordered. If you get toast do not miss the Italian bread!
Family run short-order breakfast place, been around since 1958. Very easy to miss. Even using Google Maps, we drove right by it, had to double back. Boy, I'm glad we did! A converted first floor of an old home, it's definitely old school, yet very clean and well maintained. We arrived a bit before the morning rush. The staff was very warm, friendly and attentive. They made sure we had beverages quickly, tool our order promptly and checked on us multiple times, even after things got busy. We sat at the counter so I could watch the action. Everything is fresh. Whole eggs, homemade Italian bread and the like. Sure, they had home fries, bacon and sausage mostly cooked on the grill, but this is a short-order place. The woman running the grill was efficient, accurate and fun to watch in action. I had an eggplant and mozzarella omelette, which was awesome! Italian bread toast was outstanding too. Give Peter Pause a try. Great place!
Close to my hotel and great little dinner. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the food and atmosphere of the typical US town and spirit is here.
Fantastic diner, made better by being within walking distance.
Only had two mediocre breakfast sandwiches here, (and those were better than most around the capital district) and that was only because they didn’t have their Italian bread they usually offer. The best breakfast sandwich in the capital region (bacon or sausage) is here on the Italian toast.
Meh… has potential, home cook instead of professional cook quality food & seasoning. Soft scrambled eggs were overcooked, no seasoning. Potatoes had nice texture, lacked seasoning. House made Italian bread was lovely. Sausage & biscuits… watery, lacked salt, no nutmeg, made with Italian sausage not breakfast.
First timer for breakfast. Place was empty. Food was prepared fast but the toast was burnt. Seems like it should have been fixed since there was no one else waiting for food. Place looked clean enough and the waitress was nice so no issues there. The eggs were good, the bacon was good but the potatos weren't very good at all. Tasteless and barely warm. The coffee was terrible. The french toast was pretty good, nice and moist but it could have used real maple syrup. Not the end of the world though and the stand out of the meal. This place seems like a standard 2.5 but I bumped it up to a 3 because the staff was nice and that matters.
Experienced very very poor service from the two ladies working morning shift recently. I would not subject yourself to this level of carelessness, they were very rude. Been in Schenectady my entire life and never been talked to and treated how I was at Peter pause (specifically the two women). Can’t justify giving them my money anymore after how I was personally treated. Atomosphere was 5 stars visually
Took my wife to breakfast mind u she's black we got treated horrible we was forgotten about other was served way before us the food was horrible I complained and the owner looked my wife up and down and said oh well there's only one cook THEY DONT LIKE BLACKS HERE !!!!! We paid 42.50 for food we barely touched so if your black not a place for you im so sorry she was treated like this I never understood until this moment we have to do better
