An absolute gem in every sense! Phenomenal scratch cooking that is authentic as can be. We were in on a Friday night and got to chatting with the owners who are so friendly and genuine. Tru the smiley schnitzel and the currywurst! Get a sampling of all of the side dishes too because they are the best you'll ever have! Can't wait to make the trip back from Houston.
If you've ever had real German food, or are German this place is the real deal. We loved every bite of our food. Loved chatting with Oma Lisa and husband and loved the Schwarwälderkirschtorte and blueberry streusel and bread we took home. I don't even wanna tell anyone how good it was, so we can keep going there and get a table. 😉 Danke Lisa, alles war wunderbar. Anke und Tom
Incredible authentic German dishes in little ole Smiley. Our group tried 4 different items with different sides- you just can't go wrong on any choice. I got the mueltischon (sp I'm sure) which looks like oversized ravioli and it was delicious. The big winner was the Jaeger schnitzel- I dream about it now. They have homemade bread that you can buy to eat at the table. The desserts, esp. the blueberry torte, were perfectly not too sweet. We will have to go back. Make reservations!
Great hidden gem! The food was amazing. This is a family business, and everyone has come together to create this small, quaint restaurant with true authentic German food and desserts! I was able to spend a little time with the owners, and they are remarkable people, doing a remarkable thing in this very small town. Our family traveled in from New Braunfels, and it was well worth the drive. Thank you Oma's for making Father's Day so great!
Stopped by for lunch and tried a variety of dishes. The pork medallions were bursting with flavor and the green beans were perfectly tender and seasoned. I also tried the German Goulash and the beef practically melted in my mouth. Highly recommend this restaurant!
The food was delicious, amazing, and authentic! Everyone is super welcoming and friendly. Definitely plan on visiting again! A reservation is greatly encouraged as they are a small business with limited seating.
Ever now and again, I like to eat something other than the norm. I picked a town on Google and looked for a place to eat. 40 minutes later, here I am. The place is in the middle of nowhere. You come into the town, and everything looks closed. Then you see the flags and German sign. That's the place. The inside is small, but they have it set up German style. It's more of a family style of eating. They have big tables or benches to accommodate lots of people. It doesn't matter if you know them or not. They fill the tables. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel with red cabbage and sauerkraut. I also got a cherry and blueberry streusel to take home. While waiting, the lady running the place offered me a glass of wine for free as they didn't have their liquor license as of yet. Shortly after that, she asked me if I was a mom and brought me a rose for Mother's Day. My food came out, and it smelled great. The cabbage and sauerkraut were great. Finally, someone who doesn't add cinnamon or something gross to either one. I liked the schnitzel, but it was a little bland without the gravy. I tried the pastries when I hot home, and they are wonderful. If you like to try new places or are close by, please stop in and give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
Well let me tell y’all somethin’—Oma’s Schnitzel Ranch is the kind of place that makes you feel like you just walked into your grandma’s kitchen, only she’s from Germany. The food? Lord have Mercy. That Jägerschnitzel was outta this world—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, smothered in that rich, savory mushroom gravy. Yum! Don’t get me started on the green beans—they weren’t just a side dish, they were a whole experience. Perfectly seasoned, cooked just right, and packed with so much flavor they could’ve stood on their own as the main course. If you’re lookin’ for a spot that’ll fill your belly, warm your heart, and have you grinnin’ ear to ear on the way out, Oma’s Schnitzel Ranch is it. Do yourself a favor and go—if you leave hungry, that’s on you!

I traveled one hour 20 minutes to try this restaurant. It was so worth it! The food was amazing, as were the staff.
Very nice visit. Arrived early for my reservation. Ended up waiting for the reservation time. The place was packed with customers standing around outside. I would estimate without a reservation, you probably have at least half an hour wait. That being said, our table was oversized, and the seating was generous. On Saturday afternoon, after 1400, most of the selections were gone, and the dessert was empty. We powered through, taking a selection of the available food, and it was all generous portions and excellent in taste. I rate it quite authentic, served on China with real silverware. Plus for the small things that add up. Highly recommend. Things to think about before the drive: make a reservation. Earlier is better than later because they only prepare so much of each entree. We parked in the street out front. If you arrive early, ask for the dessert you want to take when checking in. It saves you from being disappointed later.
Delicious authentic food and served in large portions. Loved the atmosphere as you share the table with others, as is traditional at a German gasthaus. Seems like most who were there yesterday found them through the video that featured this restaurant, the staff highly recommends making reservations, especially if making a far drive. I will be back!!
This little hidden gem is on point! I spent 4 years in Germany as a soldier and stayed there for another 1 1/2 years as a civilian and can tell you with the utmost confidence that this food is authentic. It is worth the time and effort to make the trip to this hidden, not so secret little slice of heaven. I would advise calling ahead to make a reservation though. Bis später!
The food is very good! Everything is homemade from start to finish. The cake was moist and so delicious! The owners make sure to visit each table to explain any dishes you have questions with. Very helpful and courteous. It is definitely worth the drive to Smiley.
Authentic german food - the best I had and well worth the drive. Great service too- the " only" thing missing? The big " stammtisch" ashtray 🙂 order your dessert when you come in or it may be sold - and its ALL good 🙂
WOW! Great food!!! Desserts, breads, and entrees. I had the goulash There was spaetzle, red cabbage, and the beloved dumplings !!!! There was schnitzel, and little sausages from Germany Ample amounts. They use China. Very nice plate. It’s just a little dive in smiley Tx with delicious food by some retired folks who bake and make dinners. Make a reservation for a Saturday. You will be glad you did !!!
Cannot wait to come back and not only for the amazing food! The green beans are an absolute must try and don’t get me started on the desserts. Beyond the plate, the atmosphere and service are exemplary. The team is remarkably welcoming, creating an environment that feels both hospitable and genuine. My interaction with the owners was a highlight, revealing a profound sense of love and passion that is not just spoken but is tangibly felt in the quality of every dish and the warmth of every greeting. It is this dedication that transforms a simple dinner into a truly memorable experience.
Great food! Service was good, long wait but it was a very good experience. Got to meet new people at a table, not very often you get
people that are leaving terrible reviews coming here once after watching an influencer video really needs to look at the overall picture. This is a small family run business and you’re going to diminish a long standing family run business because you can’t do research. Shame on y’all.
Enjoyed everything thing about this place. Went their with my wife who is German. Reservations recommended for groups more than 2. Small restaurant, everything is made in house.
Celebrated our 29th anniversary here for some authentic German food. Food was amazing. Loved everything. Recommend 10/10!!!!!

I had some of the best German home cooking since my last trip to Germany. And the Black Forest Cake melted in my mouth. The trip here was well worth it.
Finally had a chance to try Oma’s Schnitzel Ranch in Smiley tonight and it was phenomenal. They are still remodeling so I didn’t rate atmosphere. With that being said, our kids tore up the Bratwurst and German mustard. I had the Pork tenderloin in a wine sauce with broccoli and Schupfnudeln (potato noodles) and it was so delicious. My husband got the Jägerschnitzel with green beans and red cabbage and he said it was excellent. Highly recommend if you’re available on a Saturday.
The Oma's Schnitzel Ranch is a German good food. This place is a very nice environment. Bratwurst is the best. The black forest cake was very delicious. You won't be disappointed.
We arrived at about 3pm on Saturday after driving 1.5 hrs to learn that everything was sold out except pork medallions. Our "pork medallions" consisted of 3 small tough chunks of pork in a red sauce, over-cooked broccoli, and a tasteless item similar to gnocci, served to us in a styrofoam to-go box with plastic ware. The only thing we had that was tasty was the red cabbage. We did not get an itemized bill but the total ran to $71 for the two meals and two pieces of cake. It was not a good experience for us.
Not worth the price. 3 hours just to get food. Paltry portions compared to everyone's pictures. Dish was tasty but since they were running low on menu items my plate literally looked like they gave the other half of my plate to another patron who ordered the same thing. Go early, have reservations and may luck be on your side that they haven't run out of half the menu.
