Had a nice birthday lunch. Very warm and welcoming service. Really like my calamari burger. Had draft IPA. Lovely decor and had a table in their courtyard of sorts with the great weather on the Saturday I visited.
Lunchtime stop-over turned into a delicious diversion. Prawn salad special and calamari sandwich were optimum! Healthy and wonderfully delicious options. Highly recommend this restaurant. Very clean and super polite!
Had a amazing dinner with my boss. We unfortunately did it on a Saturday night at 630 so it was really loud in there (busy is good) I had the skirt steak with fettuccine... meat was made perfect. Wish there was more. Pasta was cooked great and sauce very rich in flavor. Could have used maybe some capers but still very delicious. My boss got the filet mignon and it also was cooked perfectly and was tender. Considering how busy it was service was on point. This restaurant is a fantastic high end feel while casual vibe.
This place has DELICIOUS food! Just wow. Best fries I have ever eaten. The rotisserie chicken was soooo good. And such a beautiful ambiance. Waitress Michelle was top tier. Highly recommend this spot. We dined outside and the heater were awesome. 🔥💙 We are in from Ohio. Love this spot.
We celebrated our wedding reception here and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Kenneth was so helpful and made the coordination a breeze. He even made the perfect custom Halloween menus for our event. Alex was our server, he has the best smile and made everyone feel tended to even though our group was about 25 people. The food was delicious and came out amazing. All my guests loved it! Thank you for making my wedding a success!
Always a great place to meet friends for lunch or dinner. Bar area and main restaurant are noisy, but patio & garden room are more conducive to talking. All food is good to excellent. They are known for the rotisserie chicken and steaks.
We were a group of 8 that arrived early. Thankfully, we were seated in the bar area where we had cocktails and then sat at a nice, somewhat secluded table for dinner. The crab cakes appetizer was fabulous, the bread with oil & vinegar was great, along with our meals. Thank you so much for the friendly atmosphere. The only downside was the parking as we had to park across the street as there were other private business signs. We will visit again.
We were last at CC on a Saturday for lunch. We had a table outside with shade. Our wait person (Asa?) was very friendly and attentive without being forward, which is a hard balance to get right. Our salads were terrific as usual. It's hard to believe we have a dining gem in SCruz across from Home Depot, but there it is.
Soquel called to me..I don't know why but I went anyway, and besides my old pal'et Juicy Ascanbe lives there, so I figured I'd see her too! I rolled into town like I owned it, and the first thing I wanted...not counting Juicy was a salmon sandwich from the Café Cruz! So that's exactly what I got, and let me tell you...that sando was a solid 5 stars...But Juicy was a 10 all day long! The Café Cruz 5 ☆☆☆☆☆
I thought the dinner was great. I'm still gonna give them a five. Maybe they had an "off" night but the kitchen was a little slow. My wife and I were drinking so we were fine , but we kept hearing it from the kids. But the food was great and they enjoyed it. The atmosphere is awesome. It's always good to see a packed restaurant with people enjoying the food...especially when you have a seat! Haha
Service was impeccable, fast and friendly. Drinks were cold, fresh and on point. Food was fast and delicious. Overall a great experience and always a solid spot. Their parking lot is terrible but I doubt they can fix that. Other than their parking situation this is a great spot for a nice dinner out.
Fantastic restaurant stuck in the middle of a traffic and parking hellscape. The food is terrific, and the folks working there are super friendly and skilled at what they do. And this will sound weird, but they serve up possibly the best bread/oil/garlic starter on the planet. Best to make a reservation and arrive early as you're likely going to have to circle the maize a few times looking for a spot where you won't get towed, or killed crossing 41st. Still, the food is worth the challenge.
As a long time sc resident, I've known Cafe cruz for a long time. I have only eaten here on a hand full of occasions. On my last visit, was a much different experience than I was used to. Firstly, we booked a very early dinner to try to beat the crowd. There were a few others in there at their tables. Seated quickly but it took at least 7-8 minutes to just get the water and bread... then another 5-7 minutes to get the waiter to the table. He was friendly and professional. We ordered the Cajun fried artichokes to start. When I think of Cajon...I think of spicy.. to which there was not. It looked like that maybe sprinkled some cayenne pepper on the ranch dipping sauce. They were OK... but nothing to write home about. My wife ordered the burger... which she stated was fantastic. I ordered the filet mignon... I will say as a amatuer chef... im the last to send something back and am guilty of continuing to eat my steaks when undercooked... however I ordered this medium rare and it was extremely rare...to the point where I felt like it was room temp on the inside. Not just that but it was apparent to me even without cutting into it that extremely rare was going to be found. I reluctantly sent it back and it returned a good 10 minutes later. Which I was kind of confused about because it took a little longer than I was expecting (they were much busier by this time). When it returned it was proper temp but it had shrank significantly due to a very hot cook temp (I get it). We weren't checked on much for drink refills so my iced tea ran out for quite a while before I got it filled. Overall I was kind of disappointed in my experience this time as normally they are great. Hopefully I just got the first opening up jitters from them until their kitchen and crew got it together. ***Revision: I was contacted by the owner and had a great discussion about my experience here. I'm happy that there are still owners that stand by the importance of their reputation and service. We will be returning to see if the necessary changes were made. Thank you Ken!
This was a beautiful restaurant with prompt service. Parking was hard but luckily we took an Uber, but plan ahead. We had reservations and only had to wait around 8 min and staff were communicating with each other and us well. Our waitress was less engaging than those at the front but I imagine she was busier. The artichokes were delish, the salad acceptable. The filet was cooked to perfection, but the veggies were under done. Great IPA. Found something WILD looking in our cream brulee and the staff whisked it away. The manager came out shortly after to explain it was a vanilla bean but he understood why we were concerned. He comped the drinks, app, and dessert. So above & beyond. Recommend!
We had a terrible meal and service experience at Cafe Cruz not long ago for lunch. But we always like to give a place a second (possibly last) shot. I’m so glad that we did! We went for dinner tonight and the food and service could not have been better. Our drinks were delivered to our table minutes from ordering them. The bread was soft and delicious and the calamari was good as well. We both ordered the filet, medium rare which were cooked perfectly. Our server was very kind and attentive, refilling my iced tea before I even needed to ask. It was a wonderful experience. We will certainly be back.
Visiting Santa Cruz area we decided to pay a visit to this restaurant that have good reviews. Our server Ken was very professional and polite.he recommended some plates and we decided to order a fillet mignon wrapped in bacon ($45) plate. Didn’t have any flavor no salt no pepper. Second plate was a hamburger that it was very bland as well. The side orders were better than the main dish. We ordered two drinks that they were good. Over rated food, excellent service and nice patio and good drinks that’s all.
We had brunch and ordered a hamburger with fries and a sandwich with a side of fruit. We were happy with the food until we saw a dead fruit bug on the fruit which was disgusting. As much as we didn’t want to report it we did. We informed the waitress and then told the manager. The solution was bringing us another fruit bowl. In our opinion, we believe bringing us another bowl was not the correct way to handle services. We left the bowl and we had expected at least a discount but it seemed like they cared for us to pay the tab and not really acknowledge the disgust we felt when seeing that. We hope this feedback can improve similar or different scenarios that may or could happen to other customers. Unfortunately we will not be returning. Reminder please wash your fruit as we all know it comes from fields or trees.
I should’ve left a bad review when I got food poisoning from them. They had halibut as a special once. Literally about 10 minutes ago, my mom was kicked out for giving her service dog a treat. I don’t think there’s a law that forbids service animal owners from giving their dogs treats in restaurants — and this was not food from the table. Yes, we do have a very cute little dog, but she wouldn’t be a service dog if she wasn’t trained and certified as a service animal. To have customers sit down after ordering food and drinks that had just arrived at the table, then be told to get up and leave simply for giving a service dog a treat is unbelievable. Never been kicked out of a restaurant for something like this, and we regularly go to fine-dining restaurants. If you have a service dog, apparently that’s your problem — you’re not welcome at Café Cruz, especially if you try to feed your dog
