Anytime I'm in the Stony Brook area I have to visit Green Cactus! I live in the Huntington area and cried when they shut down. It was my weekly go to spot. Best texted around.
Satisfying and no complaints. Would go back. Food was good quality and had great flavor.
We had been going somewhere else in town for fast Mexican, but wanted to switch it up! With that said we found our new place. I reccomend the tamales and the enchiladas, but the taquitos were excellent too. The rice and pinto beans were flavorful and the service was quick and friendly. A go to for Mexican food!
One of our favorite Mexican food places in the area. Service is pretty quick and easy, accessible location. Workers are friendly. Love the steak burrito fajita and shrimp tacos, personal favorites. Chips and salsa are always great. Have been coming here over 20 years and never disappointed. Will keep returning as long as Green Cactus is there, and recommend to others!
Never fails in the past 25 years I've always had a negative experience its the best and freshest Mexican restaurant in Suffolk County I highly recommend it. The guacamole is full of tomatoes thats the only thing I dont like. Cactus combo is where it's at! Awesome as always.
When I lived in Stony Brook would frequent Green Cactus often. Moved away 17 years ago and was back for a visit and decided to go back to Green Cactus. It was just as good as I remembered. I had the Burrito Fajita and it was fabulous. My only complaint, it was too huge (if you can call that a complaint). Love this place. Wish they were upstate in Rochester.
Whenever we come to visit my in-laws we make sure we make several stops at Green Cactus for their vegetarian burritos. They are delicious! My in-laws also love their chicken and beef burritos. Never once have we been disappointed!
This Green Cactus in particular (I've been to others) is very very good. Their location has high volume (right next to the university) so the food is definitely fresh. It's a nice change and more authentic than your usual big name burrito joints. I highly recommend getting your burrito "wet" (as they call it) which is enchilada style. Delicious!
Indoor and outdoor eating. Staff is friendly and courteous. Food is tasty and filling. Burritos are my favorite and they have several to chose from. Located across from Stonybrook University's LIRR north station side, west end. Nice place to bring the family or friends.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area for the simple fact that it has the best food. It is all made fresh when you order, so you will wait a little bit longer for an order than you may be used to waiting for Mexican food -- especially when they are busy, but it is worth it. I like the "one foot burrito" and the chicken nachos. Either dish will fill me up, and I'm a big guy. They also offer a "taco primo" which is super tasty, but I would need to eat several to fill up so I usually just order one on the side to cap off a nice meal. The salsa bar is full of great salsa and they offer outdoor seating that is really nice when the weather is nice.
This was a nice place to have lunch, we ate on the patio and it was a beautiful day. They gave me a handful of chips with my burrito, which was a nice touch. I thought the food was delicious. They were a little expensive, but it was interesting to order at the counter without the Chipotle style assembly line. Service with a smile and nice people, at least at lunch. I think some of the older complaints about service are out of data.
I love the fish burrito with salsa and chips. The decor and atmosphere is authentic and new. Bury me in a fish burrito as my last wish. OH LA !!!
Hard to find authentic Mexican around Stony Brook / East Setauket. Glad this place is here!
My husband liked his Quesadilla I had the steak fajita, I was not not so happy and wouldn't order again. Ppl were nice They did not give chips w our food like most other Mexican food places do. So.... I'm not going to come back, but I did try it.
I have had to lower my rating as the last few times I went there the food quality has declined quite a bit from a few years ago. My friends agree. Green cactus salsa is still good but the tortilla chips taste burnt and tasteless. I had Chicken taquitos and my Hispanic friend eating with me said they are flatuas. The chicken filling had NO seasoning and the shell tasted burnt. The Shrimp burrito that another friend had did not taste as good as they used to according to him.
They don’t turn the heat on so it’s like you are having your meal sitting in 10 degree weather outside. Food is decent and portion size have gotten smaller. People are friendly.
I haven’t been there in awhile but the food has changed wasn’t happy with the enchiladas. The green sauce was poured up to the top of the plate. No air conditioning stuffy. No hot sauces on table no more. Have to go up and ask for salsa because where they kept it refrigerator must of been broken for years. So dissatisfied. Use to be my favorite place.
The food is good, but they are incredibly stingy with their hot sauce. You basically have to beg them for sauce, and they ration it strictly to two small cups per customer. I'm willing to pay for extra sauce, but it's a major hassle because they always get confused when you ask to pay for more sauce. This is basically a Mexican restaurant that heavily restricts how much hot sauce they give out, which is absurd because hot sauce is one of the main reasons people like Mexican food. The food is good but every time I come in I feel like I have to get into a fight over the sauce, so it's just not worth it anymore.
1-word review: Yuck. Jun 24, order# 4316. 3:14pm. The food was not great. We ordered fried chicken fingers for the kids. The chicken was extremely dry. I ordered the American Burrito. After a few bites I realized there was no beef inside. It was also cold. I brought it back and they made me a new one. This time it was extremely dry. I looked inside and I could not see any queso cheese (the first one had queso). I brought it back in and they said there was queso in it. I said there was not. He just looked at me and refused to put more queso in it. I ask for a little side of queso and he said there was an extra charge. This is not the quality of food and hospitality I remember from eating here years ago. I won't be back. This place is gross.
Food is good - fresh and healthy. The service and counter-help is the absolutely worst however. I would give it 0 stars if I could. They play the language game, ignore requests they say 'speak nicely' to get what you ordered. Used to go once a week - then once a month. First time there this year and will be my last.
