Had a lovely family lunch. The food is always delicious and great atmosphere. Gynnette was very attentive and looked after us and our doggies. We’ll be back again soon!
I had a nice walk down the river, and stumbled upon this humble inn, where I was met with a beautifully poured guiness from a gentle boy named James, who was very friendly. I’m addicted to cigarettes, so he kindly recommended the outside area. Top fella, will visit again.
Came for a last minute birthday meal! We were served by Will who was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Service was fast but not to the detriment of the food which was all fantastic. Definitely would recommend
The Grove handled our group party booking with the utmost care. The food was excellent. Our tables were in a great area. And Aynette did a most excellent job looking after us and making sure we had everything we needed. Can’t fault it. Thank you everyone at The Grove!
Had an amazing Sunday roast at the Grove!! The portions were generous and incredibly tasty. We also couldn't resist the desserts, which were the perfect end to the meal. Lovely staff, especially Will and Nikola really went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend The Grove for anyone looking for a top-tier Sunday roast!
It's a great pub and they definitely care about the service and food ,I absolutely love how the place doesn't seem crowded with tables as that always makes me uncomfortable when I have to sit next to other people and hear their conversation,we are appreciate that a lot. We had Gynette serving us today and she is adorable, can't fault anything about her service ! The only thing that I would criticise on the Sunday roast is that the food came almost cold and that was slightly disappointing but everything was delicious and the quality is there hence I am not rating anything less than 5 stars as the other meals we had here previously came out nice and warm and hoping this was one off. The veggies were so nice and the Yorkshire pudding was not covered in fat( which I hate) but nice and fluffy !
Always a great way to spend an hour or two in Surbiton. My business partner and I are currently office hunting locally and we know we can always grab some great food and a well served drink at this super local pub. Melissa is always a friendly face who can’t do enough to make us feel welcome. We are moving locally soon and whilst the Grove is a 5 minute walk it will be definitely be our new local.
The food was excellent and delicious, kudos to the kitchen team. I didn’t manage to take a picture of the lobster croquettes but it was also perfect! 👌 The staff were friendly and accommodating especially Gynette who smiles a lot and has a good sense of humor. The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable. They also have a beautiful and spacious garden outside. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family ☺️
I loved it!! Food was absolutely amazing, the starter portions were very big and amazing too. I ordered the burger and it was so juicy and that sauce was amazing. All my family ordered different dishes and everyone absolutely loved them all. I walked out stuffed! Gynette seemed like a very lovely and sweet lady. Overall amazing food, great service from staff and the vibes were so fun 😁😁
We’ve just moved to the area and recently visited The Grove and we absolutely love it! The staff are great , friendly, welcoming, and really attentive. The atmosphere is warm and lively without feeling overcrowded, making it a great place to relax. Everything is spotlessly clean and well looked after, which really stands out. Easily the best roast we’ve had! Delicious, generous portions, and perfectly cook! 👏
Our first time. Family and friends visiting from Cape town and Yorkshire. Stunning food although the mushy peas were very runny and a small portion. Incredible fish and chips though. We sat outside but the ambience inside is to die for. Everything from the roast to the burgers is well made and T for tasty. Our waiter (shaved head Asian guy) was gorgeous and attentive. 😀 Bar staff were competent and warm.
Had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely spot on – generous portions, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. Everything we tried was delicious, and it’s one of those places where you’re already planning your next visit before you’ve finished your meal. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, with a lovely buzz inside and a beautiful, spacious garden. What really made the experience stand out though was the service. The staff were warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive – a special shoutout to Will and Noel, who were brilliant and made sure we were well looked after throughout. Can’t recommend The Grove enough – a great spot for amazing food, relaxed vibes, and top-notch service. Definitely one to share with friends and family!
Two of us came for lunch on Friday lunchtime. The place was almost empty but we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Our waitress Melissa was excellent, giving us plenty of time but then very helpful and knowledgeable when we did get around to ordering. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a really enjoyable time.
I’ve lived in Surbiton for almost two years now and have made my way through most of the local pubs, there’s no shortage of good options. But the Grove is on another level. There’s genuinely no place like it. First off, they’re always showing the sport, not just the obvious matches. The team’s super accommodating if there’s something specific you want to watch, which makes it a go-to for watching the games. They also host the Pub Run Club every Thursday at 7pm, which (as the name suggests) ends right back at the pub with a well-earned pint. Iconic. One of their biggest draws next to the unbelievable back garden is their food, specifically their wings. Every Wednesday, the deal is 5 wings for £5. Do NOT let that fool you, we’re talking full flats and drums, proper meaty and full of flavor. It’s become a weekly ritual for me and my friends to catch up over wings and beers while arguing over which of the three flavors is best, normally we just get all three and try each others. Last week, we were told they’d run out but we spoke with the staff, specifically Will, Oli, Aidan and of course Dan. They managed to sort us out with a final round. That kind of service says everything: they go the extra mile for their regulars, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a proper pub with great vibes, great food, and an even better team, do yourself a favor and go. – Oli, Michael & Connor
Couldn’t recommend the Grove enough. Had an amazing New Year’s Eve meal there. I chose the prawn and monkfish curry, which was absolutely delicious. And despite the fact she was obviously rushed off her feet, our lovely waitress - Nicola - went out of her way to make our experience really enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble, and I will certainly be heading back there soon.
On a wet midweek winter’s afternoon it was a welcoming atmosphere. Only went for a drink but the menu looked great so shared the baked Camembert which was delicious. Gynette’s service was warm & friendly. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful group Christmas meal we have just had. The food was generous and delicious. The printing of nameplates with food choice of each guest was genius. Festive decorations and crackers to pull made the atmosphere lovely and christmassy. Being able to pay with cash also helped for those without bank accounts!
Group of us were looking for a local pub quiz after finishing Uni, and The Grove has delivered perfectly. We’ve been coming every Sunday for a couple months now and thoroughly enjoy it every time. Great service, good selection of beers and a good atmosphere.
Melissa on the bar was so friendly and kind. The food was great and atmosphere lively. Booths outside all had heaters. Great value for money and lively on a Wednesday. (Also there is a hot ginger man)
The best pub Sunday lunch in Surbiton and one of the best I've ever had. Went with my son on a Sunday lunchtime. Beautiful weather so we sat outside but not the full table service, ordered at the bar. I had the pork and it was the best roast pork I've ever had. Lovely cracking, moist meat and super tasty. Considering the generosity of the protein and a good amount of vegetables I think it's great value too. My son had the chicken which he rated highly too. Great service.
Went to celebrate Mother's day. The food was excellent (Vegan Wellington, fish n chips, vegan burger). The service was good considering how busy it was in there. Staff were always happy to help when flagged down. The pub is nice but the outside area really surprised me - it is very well designed and large enough to probably double the number of customers if needed!
Great food and experience . Great waitress - thanks Tiff
Food was next level ! I believe it to be a new menu and I hope the chefs keep up their enthusiasm the same way they’ve created this menu and delivered it. All the time it’s like this I’ll be coming back non stop ! Well done to the chefs and front of house.
Great cosy place with friendly staff, quick service and nice food! Don’t miss it if you are in the neighbourhood. I had to go second time to try more dishes! PS espresso martini to die for!
Delicious food, great service from Melissa and darling decor. Well spaced tables. We will be back!
Lovely food - we all had the steak and the sourdough which were both very nice! Nicola and Gynette were very friendly and accommodating of our requests! Great service!
Gynette was our server, she was terrific. She even got one of our table to try the rabbit pie 😊 5 stars. Couldn’t have asked for better!! We hadn’t reserved a table, which I wouldn’t recommend but Gynette went out of her way to accommodate the 8 of us.
Amazing meal at our favourite pub in Surbiton! Highly recommend. Very spacious and quick service too Gynette the server was amazing and so friendly
Lovely Sunday lunch. Shout out to Nicola who served us today - professional, fun and nothing was a problem. Extra thanks to the kitchen who made some freshly cooked carrots for our 6 month old son. His first meal out!
Great pub, come here with my football team every week so thought I’d leave a review. Bartender Will C (the ginger one), is super friendly and chatty which makes a change from some other local pubs.
Mariana was a star and we had an absolutely delicious family lunch - esp delicious were the lemon and Parmesan chicken wings.
Great food, and lovely staff. Will M was super friendly and attentive. Great option for weekend pub lunch.
Had the best time, was served by Ida and Will, they couldn’t have been better, helpful, friendly and funny! Tried a sausage roll from the bar and it was to die for. I will definitely be back. If not for food then for the staff, they can never leave!
Popped in for some drinks with my partner and got served by Jen. Service was amazing, such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and was really made to feel looked after 😊 Thank you Jen and the grove team for a lovely evening!
Excellent venue. Was over from NZ for an event there and it was VERY busy but the food arrived in pretty good time. Food was pretty good too. Very good outdoor seating options with small booths you can book for small groups. Service was a bit slow at times at the bar but it was busy.
Great destination for drinks, massive outdoor space with heating, good food and various sports on the box! Pets are also welcome too and the staff are friendly 👌🏾🥂🥃
This is a great pub with a big selection of food and beer. The staff are extremely helpful, going over and above to make your experience special. Thoroughly recommend
Very nice venue and friendly wait staff and lovely atmosphere but we waited 1.5 hours for our food. They did apologize for the slow service and gave us free bread to snack on. Food was unfortunately not fantastic. The yorkshire pudding was completely flat except for mine and wasn't appetizing. A salad was ordered (Beetroot, added chicken) but almost no chicken and was sent back unfortunately. The burger that was ordered was really good according to the person who ordered it. Perhaps an off day so I would go back since the service was very good and the wait staff were very apologetic about the issues. Went with my sister and her husband and they were very impressed with their last visit.
Came here and had Christmas lunch. Can I say the staff that looked after us were excellent. Thank you so much Will, Jeanette & James who looked after us so well. They were attentive, polite and couldn’t do enough for us. For us the mains were the star with the beef wellington being exceptional and the heirloom carrots with the vegan option were both colourful & delicious. Again thank you all for your effort and time
Very nice. The burger looks quite small on first acquaintance, but is tasty. Gynette and her team really looked after us - particularly after we changed from 4 pax to 8 at the last minute.
A quiet Tuesday lunchtime using the January 2 for 1 offer. Great and attentive service from Melissa. Good food. Atmosphere was fine just quiet as to be expected on a Tuesday in January.
Overall I really love the atmosphere of the pub and food was good. Despite some negative aspects of the visit I would recommend this pub. Service: We booked in for dinner. Whilst our waitress was very friendly the service was slow and inattentive. This was surprising as there weren’t many tables sat around us. Took way too long for drinks to arrive once ordered (was quicker to leave the table and go to the bar ourselves). £5 for a pint of diet coke also seems very steep for Surbiton… Sea bass with chorizo: Really enjoyed this. I normally don’t like chorizo but this paired really well with the fish. Fish and chips: Friends enjoyed this fish and chips. Banana sticky toffee pudding: Looks fantastic but sadly didn’t taste it. The banana chips were too hard and not a great take on the traditional pudding. A case where simplicity would have been better. The pudding itself was a bit hard and dry (looks like they were cooked individually but this means there was a crust all the way around which was disappointing)
Nice pub, spacious garden. Food was tasty and very good portion. I had a lamb shank with smoked pancetta and farro while husband had a burger. To end off, we had an apple crumble to share. We had to wait for quite a while for the apple crumble but it was served hot, so assumed it was made to order. Tad too tangy and nutty for my liking but that's just me.
Just had a very disappointing roast lunch here. Dined with two children. The kids burger was good- but the sausage roll at £4.50 was literally a slice 1cm thick. The roasts were luke warm and did not come with cauliflower cheese- this was nearly £9 extra and came in a ramekin sized dish. When I expressed shock at the tiny size- I was told it was a side dish- to which I replied that the £9 price tag didn’t reflect a side dish! The Yorkshire’s were dry. The beef and ham were delicious, as were the chips that came with the kids meal. A very average roast at best.
Great pub, but the food we had was disappointing. Lacked flavour and when it arrived it was cold, the beef was chewy and the calories Nero under cooked. No gravy for the roast and no apology when complained. I had a great time as the atmosphere and pub/garden is great, but when we all paid ££ for the meal I expect it to be nice. Please can you sort the food out.
Came for a Sunday roast with the family. I was told we needed a reservation which they were accommodating. The service was incredibly slow (took over an hour before food came out). The over-arching theme was dry food. The burgers were grey in the middle. The roast tasted like it was sitting on the counter for some time. Won’t be returning for the food.
I really wouldn’t recommend coming here for food. I ordered the fish and chips - the curry sauce tasted like butternut squash soup. My two friends had the flat iron steak and the meat was super chewy. The staff are friendly but it took ages to get our drinks and ages to get the food too. I think it’s fine for drinks (although not cheap) but definitely would not recommend if you want to eat !
Been here a few times. It's okay overall but £10.70 for a double gin & soda water with ice is very very high end. Plus, a staff member just took away my drink behind me on the table with 10%-15% left. Poor
My wife was going to attend an Xmas dinner booking but couldn't go as she got a gastro bug the night before. Even though our party still had around 14 people attending they made our friends pay for the full meal she didn't eat. We had paid £10 deposit but this was pointless as they demanded the full payment of £42.50 anyway, as if she had eaten there, the reasoning was that they had already bought and prepared the food, which makes no sense as their only sunk cost was for the food, which would be about a tenner and what we had already paid, isn't that the point of a deposit? The manager working on the day (yesterday) was about as sympathetic as Vlad Putin. When did restaurant reservations become Jet2holidays? Be careful booking here, might be worth getting insurance. Really disappointed and won't be returning to the grove, which is sad.
