The place was old, walls thick with history, a charm that clung like damp air. Doc Martins hummed, alive, romantic in its weathered way. The server, her eyes green as cut jade, moved with a grace that stirred the blood. She was charming, upbeat, her smile a spark in the dim light. Service was sharp, clean, like a well-honed knife. The wild-caught salmon came, pink and firm, tasting of cold rivers and truth. It was remarkable, each bite a quiet victory. The room whispered of times past, of lovers and fighters, and it held us close. Five stars for the food, the woman, the walls. All of it true.

I'm so glad I followed the advice of my friends and came here - yummy margaritas and food and GREAT service, the kind that makes you want to come back and when you do you'll feel welcomed . Thank you, Holly ! Now I know why my friends always come here - I want to come back when it's cold enough to light that fire in the lobby but when it's warm the outside is lovely

The red crunchy bits (red corn chips) on the outside of the rellenos is brilliant! And so delicious inside. The green Chile stew is still #1 in New Mexico (AFAIK), please tell me where it's better than here? And the chocolate ice cream was so incredibly rich and the chorros were amazing and fresh. Always music every night here and no cover charge. A Taos Original iconic legacy.

We've been here before and we came back for the food and experience. Doc Martin's has a limited menu so that they can focus on providing interesting entrees. We had the Blue Corn Encrusted Trout and Ribeye Fajitas. Also on our table Wes the Doc's Relleno appetizer. The chilli had a thick red crusted on it. We raced to eat it. The full trout came withe the head and all the scales and fins. Yes, It was all good.

My husband and I stopped here one evening while in Taos. We tried their Chile relleno which was absolutely delicious. I loved the presentation with the pepitas. The outer shell was so good and crunchy. We also had their salsa and chip. The salsa was super spicy but tasty. My husband had a margarita and he said it was the best one he’s had on our trip. Being pregnant, they made me a non-alcoholic margarita using passionfruit I believe and it blew me away. It’s hard to get a good mocktail, but I am still dreaming about this concoction to this day. Service was awesome and we really enjoyed being able to sit outside.

Dinner mid-week (holiday week) in July while staying at the Taos Inn. This was one of the best meals we had in New Mexico. Pictured are the chile relleno and tamale entrees - both were excellent. Would definitely recommend this spot!

Everything was fantastic. Chili relleno, queso fundido, and carne asada were stellar. Perfect Margarita earned it's reputation. Get a reservation, because there aren't many restaurants downtown any more.

Very pleasantly surprised. The mushroom mole was outstanding. Chili relleno was the best we had in Taos. Mushroom tacos were nice. They had a long wait for tables but had my to-go order ready in 10 min. Really excited to have option for vegetarians and vegans here. Definitely pricy, but worth it.

We had dinner on the patio at dusk. Our server provided great service! :) The margarita was delicious and Abuelita's pork stew reminded me of my own grandmother's stew recipe. Warmed my belly and my heart. My husband had the carne asada entree and it was very flavorful. Beautiful setting in Taos. Editing to add that we came back the next night. Ordered cornbread (just a tad dry, but the butter made up for it), burger, chicken tamale, and romaine anchovy salad. All delicious! Husband ordered tres leches cake, his favorite, and it may have been the best he's had.

Love the Taos Inn and Doc Martin's. Best Chile Rellenos anywhere...with a Cowboy Buda Margarita ...great service...my favorite place in Taos for 14 years now..

We stopped by for Mother's day dinner and celebrating mom's birthday. Our server was excellent. Food was also great.

Had an awesome experience at Doc’s. Staff were all super friendly. We were visiting from out of town so they gave us some recommendations of what else to explore in Taos! Ordered the “I need a miracle” margarita, skillet corn bread, Chile relleno and 3 tacos (pork belly, chicken and carne). Pork belly was my favorite. Would definitely come back.

Tamales were hard and crumbly, but everything else was quite good. The prickly pear Margarita rival the ones at the White Buffalo Saloon in Marathon, Texas.

My vegetarian mole dish was perfectly prepared. From the gracious staff to my delicious meal I had a splendid evening in Doc Martin's Restaurant in the historic Taos Inn.

Jesús was the best server we could have asked for. We asked for recommendations for every course and were NOT disappointed. If we ever make the trek back to Taos from Baltimore we will definitely stop back in for another amazing dinner!!!

I have generally made it a rule never to eat in a hotel restaurant, because in my long experience of attending conferences all over the country, I usually find that the meals there are overpriced, unoriginal, and underwhelming. Doc Martin's, located in the Historic Taos Inn, turned out to be a glorious exception to that rule. The bartender/waitress who served my companion and me was exceptional: very friendly, attentive, and efficient. And the menu servings were unique, picture-worthy in presentation, and absolutely delicious. It turned out to be an experience to remember (in a good way!) and I give this restaurant my highest recommendation.

We had a great meal, the ribeye fajitas was outstanding. My wife loved her burrito. The cake we had for dessert was one of the best we'd ever had. It was unbelievable. I just wish I could remember what it was called. Good selection of draft beers and other drinks. Our waitress was excellent and attentive. We thought the meal was good value both in terms of food quality and portion size. Definitely recommended and we'd certainly return although it's a trek from the UK!

Came in for a drink and cup of green chili stew, my server Sam was very attentive and also gave me an amazing spicy passionfruit mocktail. Jimmy Stadler was playing an awesome set and the ambience was great. I hadn’t been in the Taos inn for a long time and was very impressed with everything. Thank you!

This was the best place we ate at in Taos, by far. Carne Asada was out of this world. Smash burger was possibly the best ever. Service was perfect. Ask for Trish for great service.

P

Doc Martin’s, at the Taos Inn, is just as quirky as Taos itself. The interior is not quite as upscale as a few other eateries in the area, but it’s set within the original adobe house and celebrates local flavors beyond traditional chile, including choke cherry and fresh trout. Service is good, and the food is fresh and tasty, albeit a bit overpriced.

For brunch we had the sampler with the blue pancakes which were great, and the huevos rancheros hit the spot.Service was great and chef stopped by to check how everything was. Being a historical site, can't beat the atmosphere.

Tl;dr-Honestly, this is a great place to visit while in Taos. As long as you don't get our server. Also, make a reservation and don't roll the dice on a table. Highly recommended. So why 4*? Our particular server was just not great. She seemed to be actively trying not to work. You know when that changed? When it became apparent that my family of four was spending more than 50 / person. That's too sad. The tables adjacent to us had much better service than we did. They were constantly checking on their tables and getting their drinks. The drinks we got (by the time we got them) were watered down. We watched the bartender, who btw was amazing, pour them and then they sat for about 7 min while our server was nowhere to be found. We ordered soup/stew. She brought it to us without a spoon. After waiting 4 minutes I asked a bus boy for a spoon because she dropped it off and then she went AWOL. Look, as my wife said, maybe she had a bad day. Maybe her personal life is rough right now As a human being I'm sensitive to that. As a patron, I'm annoyed because I have to separate personal and business life. I do it out of necessity. Because I'm expected to i unfortunately expect others to also do it. Outside of our server, everything about this place was great. Would go back and just request a different server. I saw our neighbors experience and know it was better than ours

We made reservations for Christmas Day a few days prior and we’re surprised to find they still had open times. We had a love corner booth. The shrimp appetizer was good, but pretty small and we didn’t realize it was fried. The dinner portions were quite large. The coating on the chili rellenos was made in house and fantastic. The rice and beans were wonderful. The desserts were unique and sounded fantastic, but we didn’t save room. Service was a bit slow, but to be expected on such a busy day. We would definitely return to taste more menu options. Cheers p

Service: 5/5 stars, our waitress was very prompt with taking our orders, and was always checking in on us. Atmosphere: 4.5/5 stars, there was live music and the ambiance of the whole place was great. Lively, cheery, fun. Food/Drinks: 4/5 stars, the food was very good and you got a VERY healthy serving of it, with lots of sides, and plenty of food to fill your belly. The spicy margarita was absolutely fantastic as well.

We were celebrating my daughters 18th birthday. We had already had dinner but were desert hopping through Taos. The service staff was very kind to seat us for just deserts. We had the green chile cheese cake and a tasty chocolate dessert. Both of the deserts were tasty and well presented. We had a very nice time enjoying our deserts.

Disappointed that the actual menu was not the same as online. We looked forward to this dinner all week based on what we saw online and the recent reviews. But the menu seems to have been pared down considerably. What we did have was ok. But none was our first choice. The trout entree came with waffle fries, no rice or mash and no pumpkin seeds, the sauce was bland. I couldn't mix and match the three taco entree so I ordered two ala cart. The server couldnt really tell me about the ancho mushrooms, but they were the star. The chicken taco was dry. Overall an OK experience, but a let down from expectations.

Food was great. Carrot cake was delicious! However, the service needs to be more efficient. Drink arrived after the soup.

Dylan is a wonderful serves. 3 bean elk chili rellenos were fabulous. Salmon was a bit over done. Loved the atmosphere. Retired to the patio for drinks & live music! We will return.

Doc Martin’s is attached to the Taos Inn. The atmosphere is fairly casual. I gave the atmosphere 4 stars because it isn’t loud! The food offerings were everything from burgers, Mexican, to fish. We opted to skip appetizers and just ordered a main course. We chose the trout which was served over fresh vegetables and the piñon crusted chili rellenos. The flavors were nice and fairly mild. For dessert, a chocolate sundae and carrot cake, pretty basic. The seasonal cocktails were not fancy, but decent. The wine list definitely needs improvement. Highly recommend reservations as the space is on the smaller size and fills up nightly.

The place itself is nice. Being one of the only places to eat in the area, you’re kind of drawn to it. I found that the food was lacking for the prices they charge however. I was expecting more artisanal southwestern fare. It was basic cantina grub at finer dining prices. The margarita was good, but there was barely any salt on the rim.

Sat on the patio on a Monday evening. Prickly pear margarita (pictured) was below average and just tasted like tequila and lime. Enchiladas were enjoyable, both red and green chile were very yummy. Did seem like the waitress forgot about us at the end of our meal - we asked to see the drink menu again and she said she’d be right back with it, only for her to disappear for 20 min and completely forget. By that point neither of us wanted another drink and just requested the check.

This spot is listed on NewMexico.org as offering an "upscale dining experience which offers New Mexican classics with an imaginative twist" so I was quite looking forward to it. Instead, the menu offered a pretty run-of-the-mill southwestern dining option at upscale prices. Meh, that's fine, I figured it'd be a great meal anyway. Alas. My daughter ordered the soup - loaded potato - and I ordered the Pork Adovada. Both had a solid flavor profile that was comoletely botched with an overwhelm of salt. Yikes! We couldn't finish either dish, so we satisfied our hunger after. Service was good and timely! Ambiance is friendly and culturally on brand! Just super overpriced for a generic menu with an execution that lacked. Oh, also. The menu posted online is not the same menu at the restaurant. Similar, but not the same.

Drinks and chips and salsa were good and it was nice to hang out there. The entrees were the downside - very bland and beef way overcooked. Wouldn’t come back for an entree especially at that price.

Our party of four came for dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere and service was charming and pleasant, the food however was disappointing. I had the beet and goat cheese salad with chicken. The chicken had a nice char, but everything else was overpowered by the pickled red onions. My husband and his father had the trout dish. The trout was dry, not much flavor, and the rest (sweet potato fries and succotash) was just a one flavor mush under the trout. My son had the halibut which he said was decent, but again a bit disappointing considering the advertisement as “gourmet”. The price per dish did not match up with the quality. I fear Doc Martens is leaning heavily on their association with the Taos Inn and being at the heart of downtown. At those prices it’s time to elevate the menu.

C
Chris R

The trout appetizer was the only good thing here. The food was over an hour wait for dinner and subpar and over priced. The server seemed to forget about us and we had to go to the bartender to tell her to get our check. I would come back for the margaritas and appetizer only.

Carried by the coolness of the inn I think. I wasn’t super impressed by my burrito. Nice atmosphere but not worth the price.

We stayed at the adjacent hotel so we figured it would be an easy dinner. The Adobe Bar was full so we went across the threshold to Doc Martin's and were pleased to see we made it for happy hour! Just kidding... The happy hour only applies to the bar 20 feet away. So we got the $17 trout bruschetta and $23 burger... Both serving sizes were very small and both were meh. If I'm not mistaken the fries were frozen and still hard in the middle. Service was good and ambience fine.

DON’T waste your money on this place. Please go somewhere else! Food: Firstly, the “Ribeye” fajitas did not look like any of the pictures on here. And they sure as hell were not worth $38!! It was a pathetic amount of meat. The queso was cold and bland. Just save yourself and don’t go here. The bar next door if fine! Service: they need to have some formal training on how to be a server! I’ve had better service at Applebees! If you check in on a table and ask if you need anything, why don’t you give people 2 seconds to respond before walking away. Just poor, slow, forgetful service.

Doc's was Disappointing!! Dined on Labor Day 2025. First off, the original ROBUST menu has been replaced by a dumbed down version. The best about the meal was the Chile Relleno and the Green chile soup appetizers. Unfortunately, the great tasting appetizer experience was rushed as our entrees appeared too early. As for the entrees, well the much heralded piñon crusted trout was an utter flavorless disappointment. Bland, bland, bland. While the fish was appropriately cooked, the mouth feel was much too wet, that's wet - not moist; as if the fish was improperly defrosted. In addition the side dishes that used to accompany the trout were much more suited to fine dining than the current sweet potato waffle fries and summer squash. As for the other entree, why is it impossible to order the taco entree with the three different options, that is, one each chicken, beef and mushroom. Nope they must all be the same. (not even for a surcharge). On a positive note they do spread the seating out, so you are not dining on top of other diners. Bravo! All in all it seems that Doc's is coasting on its reputation, simplifying entrees and reducing appetizer and entree choices. Real chefs seemed to have vacated the premises. In Taos, there are MUCH better options for REAL fine dining.

Had reservations but they “couldn’t find them” and we were sat outside instead of inside. I had a confirmation and was just brushed off and told they could sit us anyway. Ordered the TROUT and was told it a fan favorite; however, it was furthest from what I was expecting. It was pretty plain and there was barely any pumpkin puree. In hindsight, I can’t even tell you what was supposed to be on it after eating it. It was bland and expensive. Drinks were great and the green chili martini held me through. Chips and salsa were pretty good, queso was just nacho cheese.

Had a reservation and showed up 15 min early - told we could grab a drink in the bar and get seated soon. Great for us and what we planned, except no one came to serve at a table in the bar and when we approached the bartender they said, if you have a reservation go over there they have their own bar. We went back, waited, and were eventually seated. Greeted by a friendly server, Michael, after a bit and ordered drinks - 20 minutes later our drinks arrived. We’d been told of two items no longer available, but when we ordered, one item we wanted was also no longer available, still fine - we’d share the other order and be good. It was another 30 min plus for our food to arrive and when the plate was set down they said “be careful” as though it was hot and then quickly commented that “it’s not hot”. No, it wasn’t - rice and beans cool at best, tamales maybe slightly warm, all had sat for a very long time! We offered to pay for drinks but not the awful food that we hadn’t sampled even a quarter of between the two of us and to the servers credit, he agreed that he wouldn’t be happy with what was served and comped our drinks too. Not sure what the issues there are, but certainly not the place it once was. It was a shame to be visiting from a far distance and essentially missing a Taos meal when there are so many great restaurants in town.

Never left a review before but I wanted to make sure no other vegans went to this place thinking they would have some good plant-based options. $29 yam dish is the only vegan option or a salad you have to order without the cheese, or chips and salsa/guac. Don't read the rest of the reviews about vegan options, those reviews are 2+ years old. Don't look at the online menu because all of those options are gone, too. The wife, kid and I had just gotten into Taos for vacation and were looking for a place to eat before we settled in where we were staying. We found the only restaurant available that had vegan options and was still open, so we rushed over. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated, and we were notified after being seated that every vegan option we had heard about was no longer available. A super expensive yam dish was essentially all there was and a $22 beet salad that my wife could have made in 5 minutes for $4. Our waiter was helpful and they did their best to help us with the limited options. They made some suggestions for other places we could try while we were here, and that was very appreciated. The atmosphere was nice.

I had the opportunity to dine with you last night (Friday 4/25) and wanted to share some feedback from my experience. I ordered a glass of the Vivac Cab, the wine oxidized as if it had been open for a few days, the second glass I ordered was the Bonanza Cab which my server said she had to open fresh bottle and it was fine. The presentation on the appetizer was fantastic, unfortunately the flavor was less than expected. the Enchilada sauce had almost no flavor. I ordered the adovada plate, I mean I'm visiting New Mexico why not... this entire dish was a mis... the rice and beans had zero flavor... Adovada is supposed to be cooked in red chilis... the color of the meat was brown... no hint of chilis and was very salty. Definitely not a good representation. Service was ok, but I felt like my server spent all her time at her other tables and only stopped by if I gave her a look to swing by... also I'm pretty sure you should clear the entree plate before dropping the check.. I had to move the plate to sign my check. I was in Food & Beverage for 25years, your facility has charm and character... it would have been a home run if the food & bev stood up to the

Very disappointing experience at the Taos Inn tonight. I stopped by on a long road trip hoping for a fresh and wholesome meal and I definitely came to the wrong place. My waiter was sweet, but the best thing I ordered was the blood orange cider. Of the trio of dips I ordered to start, the queso was the only one that was edible, (though without much flavor.) the salsa was too spicy for me and the guac was tangy in an unsavory way. The beet salad was mostly a pile of raw kale, with a few diced beets and goat cheese crumbles, some very large pieces of red onion, and a side of (probably store-bought) vinaigrette. The salmon was undercooked and served on a plate of very plain brown rice with a few carrots (the carrots were also edible.) I sent all of this back, and the manager came by to apologize and offer me something different. When I asked for anything vegetable-forward, he offered me "enchiladas with calabacitas," so I decided to have another cider and give them a second chance, but the enchilada plate that came was swimming in sauce and the zucchini were sparse. In the end, I paid for my ciders and decided to eat my car snacks for dinner and keep driving....

I had some warnings about their service. The concierge at the hotel warned ahead of time. I did not listen. I can tell you it was the worst experience that we had in our stay in Taos. Also, the trout and the quesadillas we're so bad that I would never recommend it to anyone. Do you self a favor and stay away from this establishment. Perhaps if the service was not as bad as it was the food could have tasted better. I don't remember the name of the server. I only tipped them 15%. I'm usually a 25% Tipper for good service

Was not happy with this place unfortunately. Dinner for 4 people with water was $242 with the $40 tip . Wife got halibut and son got carne asada. Theirs was good. My daughter and myself got the 8 oz steak mashed potatoes and asparagus. We didn't make it 15 minutes before we were unbelievable sick. It ruined our vacation in snow skiing for the next few days. The food poisoning was horrible... My wife paid over $100 for me and my daughter to be horribly sick... Will never return to that place again.

I moved to Taos about five years ago from Arizona. Doc Martens has been our go to for the holidays over the past few years. However, I must say this year was the most disappointing yet the food was extremely mediocre, And seemed like it was prepared yesterday and reheated. After dinner, we made our way to the Adobe bar, where unfortunately the drinks are delicious. However, the service is like a circus. Our waitress was more concerned with flirting with the Cowboys in her section and how she look in her leggings rather than serving Drinks. I think it is very distasteful that the servers are Allowed to wear leggings and yoga pants. Overall, I would not recommend Doc Martens at the moment nor will my wife and I’ll be returning in the future. I’m not sure what has changed over the years, but it is very noticeable..

Even if you enjoy the vibe of this place, the workers are so overworked and understaffed, I would suggest going elsewhere for a lighter conscience. The food was lukewarm, burger was overdone (I did not oder it well-done), they were out of condiments, and we waited over an hour for our food for 3 people despite having a reservation. It's also very overpriced considering this.
