Mississippi Muds has been around Forever. Place to go especially if you live by the water, in Tonawanda n.y. my mom gets the seafood Salad 2 huge scoops on a bed of 🥬.(Not the first time for her) And I know it had to be good. I had there fries and cooked perfect. I highly recommend.
Great view of the Niagara River from the rooftop seating!! Awesome number of vegan choices!! Everything here is delicious. A bit pricey. Great play area for kids in the back.
My cousin who passed away several years ago, well her husband and I became best friends quite few years ago and I stayed in contact with him every week for quite awhile. I'm originally from the Buffalo area and he took me here about 3 years ago. I loved it. He died from cancer today on 4/17/24. I'll be coming from the Cleveland area where I now live for the wake and funeral. I will bring my wife here. It means so much to me!
Cant really screw up a hot dog or hamburg but the views, especially from the roof top seating can't be beat! A must do on a great summers day on the river. Great ice cream stand with always friendly and attentive service.
First time there. Food is good especially the milkshakes too. Will be coming back. My daughter had so much fun on the playground she is 14 months and we went by the water. We all enjoy it!
Really great for WHAT IT IS, this is an in the water dog & burger stand so don’t expect table service. The Chicken Caesar is really good, dogs char grilled etc. The view and atmosphere is what I like. Great place for a summer snack.
Friday night and the family wanted ice cream!Great Perry's ice cream and the best of flavors is served here. There was a line but it went fast enough and we watched a great sunset taking place. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful.
Great place to get; a hot dog, hamburger, chicken sandwich,or loaded buffalo fries. The signature chicken sandwich I got lived up to all the hype. People were eating ice cream on the rooftop patio when was there. Very memorable dinner. Buffalo fries with blue cheese are worth the drive. Great summer spot near the water. Great place to take the kids.
Great little spot on the river, kids meals quick bites, burgers dogs and ice cream off all shapes and sizes. Mini play ground for the kids. Be aware of the seagulls will try to rob your food if on the top deck.
The food isn't super fancy, but it IS super good! The restaurant does what it needs to do, and it does it well! Then decor is good, and the upstairs eatery is spot on! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish my sundae before a seagull nabbed a giant bite. Oh, cute girls working there too!
As always this favorite summer food place was great! Had the BBQ grilled chicken sandwick and it was delish!
Plenty of Great menu choices here Hotdogs,Burgers, chicken, so much seafood Regular fries, sweet potato, onion rings, potato salad they have it All here and All super delicious. Great seating clean Restrooms. Kid-friendly and fun atmosphere
Great seasonal food and ice cream place! They make a surprisingly large variety of items for such a small place and everything is excellent! Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Pulled Pork sandwiches, regular and sweet potato fries. They also have a gluten free roll available, which is something you don't often see at a smaller venue. The ice cream is Perry's, so you know that's a quality product. They also have a gluten free hard and soft option, as well as dairy free. The staff is always friendly and ready to help! Indoor and outdoor dining options, well cleaned and maintained. It can get busy during the warm weather, especially on weekends, but the service stays top notch and speed is great for those conditions.
I recently read a review about Mississippi Mudds, and the major complaint was price. In today's economy everything is expensive. So then we must look at how outstanding the value is. The location alone is worth a premium, but then they back it all up with really good food. It's really good. Everything from the corn to the burgers, dogs, and sandwiches, the ice cream, it's all TOP TIER. Then you have to remind yourself that you can only enjoy this gem for such a short time each year .and you realize it's worth every penny . Will forever be a favorite place. I came here with my mom, my kids, and now my grandson . I call that PRICELESS.
I love Mississippi Mudds. We live in the south towns but I always make it a point to have dinner there at least once a summer. My son loves the playground. We love the roof seating and you cannot beat the location and the view. It is on the pricier side but it's like that for any restaurant by the water. We always leave satisfied and happy. Thanks for all the great years of service!
Wonderful experience. Food was awesome. We sat outside upstairs for a beautiful view of the water.
Great little waterside food shack. There is a variety of sandwiches and specialty fries. A little pricier than I would like to spend on a burger and fries, but overall, good food. They have an upstairs deck with a good view of the water and nearby area. Recommend giving it a shot for easy/fast eats
Very nice quick stop here, we had the chicken, avocado and bacon burger. Was very good. Also had the sweet potato fries which were yummy as well. This is in a great boating area full of fun and beauty. Nice walking and biking path across the street. That's where we ate at a picnic bench.
I love this place, I guess cause it's by the river.. food great , ice cream how can it not be. Sat in the upper deck visited with family watched a beautiful sunset . Highly recommend
Came here with my wife and her parents when they visited. We got a plain dog, bbq pork hot dog, bbq sandwich, and bacon mac and cheese fries. The dogs and fries were delicious, and the dogs had a nice burnt crust on them just the way we like it. The bbq was not fantastic, but it wasn’t bad. We will definitely be coming again next visit though! The waterfront view is great, and the food was overall very good
Every time I drive by in the summer I'm tempted to get ice cream here. Recently I ordered two scoops of cotton candy Perry's ice cream in a waffle cone with rainbow sprinkles and it was the best. The employee gave me a big cup so I wouldn't spill and I really appreciated that. Next time I'm definitely trying one of their milkshakes. If you haven't been here before, you have to come in the summer--especially if you love ice cream. 😁🍦
The strawberry banana milkshake tasted fresh, chocolate custard was great, and I loved the vegan sundae...great dairy free option! I was thrilled that they have dairy free options!
It’s a summertime staple to come to the river and eat a burger, footlong for my husband, and sit on the upper deck! It’s always fun! The food is good, the only negative is the bees .. they are bad!
Hot Dog-well done, Hamburger- rare, corn on the cob. All delicious and made as requested.
It is Iconic, Synonymous with Summer here in Tonawanda. My favorite is just enjoying... food, people, and surroundings (the Niagara River). A beautiful park. All from my seat with a view..
Cheeseburger-reasonably priced at 6.99 and delicious with fresh lettuce and tomato was so refreshing. Chocolate shake was also delish and the straw was big enough to actually work perfectly. Pretty water view… this was a very pleasant experience !
This is my favorite place to go out to eat in WNY. The marinated chicken sandwiches can't be beat. I've never had a bad experience here. The people are lovely, the food is fantastic and the scenery is wonderful. Definitely a place to visit.
You just can’t go wrong coming here if you’re hungry or crave ice cream. I haven’t been here in several years because we moved away from NY but it was must do a few weeks ago when we were back visiting and it didn’t disappoint. I highly recommend the marinated chicken sandwich, it was amazing. We always get cotton candy ice cream in a waffle cone and it was still perfection. We tried the sponge candy ice cream and it was alright. Sponge candy addict over here but not fantastic in ice cream. And you can’t beat the view by the lake :)
Love Mississippi Muds. Great food and very clean resturant. Its nice to sit up on roof and see the activities happening at the river. Friendly staff and its nice to stop for ice cream after your walk down by the Niawanda River on the path, you will see ducks and enjoy the sun, boats and jet skiers.
Got a delicious custard with sprinkles on a hang out with a friend. It was a great place to chat, eat, hang out and enjoy the river after! Atmosphere was very calm and full of families.
A WNY staple! I grew up super close and would come here throughout my childhood. I now live a few towns over but always love stopping here before taking a walk over at the park across the street. The food and service are always excellent with good prices.
OK so sad to say no bubble gum ice cream! I lived around the block on Adam ans would come here all the time. I met the now owners on Maui at Ohana Seafood Bar and Grill, the restaurant I worked at. They were so nice ! I always wanted to work at Mississippi Mudds. I will be back as I am moving off Maui and hopefully can say hello again! PS. Don't forget the banana split
Classic burgers and onion rings! Went back here with childhood memories about 2 decades later and was better than I remembered. Grab a real homemade burger, fresh fried side, and a soda (pop as I used to know it) and enjoy the lakeside view.
Mississippi Mudds is great for standard fair burgers and hot dogs at their indoor counter near the northwest corner of the building accessible through doors on the east side as well as ice cream (Perrys) at their outdoor counter on the west side of the building. With seating on the rooftop (not handicap accessible), indoors, and a covered outdoor patio, you have plenty of options for the family. Or walk across the road to Niawanda Park on the Niagara River for a picnic.
Great pulled pork sandwich; not overly sauced, good texture, nice balance of meat/fat. While the condiments include pickles, they don't have coke slaw alas. And the bun was a little too easy to dissolve in the moistness of the meat.
Oh yea! Great hot dogs, French fries, sweet potato fries and service! That hot dog was really good and hit the spot! Nice view of the river even though it was a little cloudy and muggy! An extra bonus is that you can take your dog! Picnic benches across the street or eat in the back of the restaurant.
Stopped at Mississippi Mudd's and it did not disappoint. I had a hot dog—simple, classic, and absolutely delicious. The riverside scenery made the experience even better. Whether you're there for the food, the view, or both, it's the perfect casual summer stop. Highly recommend for a quick bite with a great vibe.
Great place to eat! We were across the street sitting at the lake enjoying the view. Since we are from Ohio we were just trying to find places near by to eat at before our long drive. This was one of the first places that popped up. Checked their menu and my whole family was sold when we saw their fry selection with all the toppings. The staff was really nice and patient with our large family. They have a little play ground out side. You can eat in a screened porch area, under and pavilion style roof, upstairs, or at any table with an umbrella. They were speedy about serving us and portions were good size. The lake is right across the street and their is a running track and benches to enjoy the view. Kiddos food came on Frisbees which they all loved. Would definitely recommend!
A charming, wooden, old-fashioned, outdoor, eatery with rooftop tables and water views. We enjoyed our time here for two gluten free cheeseburgers and fries. The birds and seagulls kept trying to eat our food but they’re hungry too. It was a funny and unexpected little food battle! Our servers and the service was quick and pleasant. My husband’s cheeseburger was pink and under-cooked so he couldn’t eat it. I took it back to the counter and they apologized and refunded us right away. Their professionalism and quick response to an unpleasant situation for starving customers made us feel that this is a place worth visiting again soon. Thank you staff of Mississippi Mudds!
Enjoyed the view as we are finally seeing some nice weather. Food was good, we sampled the bacon cheeseburger, grilled chic sand and a fried bologna steak. And don't forget the sweet potato fries with honey!!! Well worth the trip, can't wait to return!!!
Great little restaurant to grab a bite and enjoy the view outside. :) Got 5 hot dogs, 4 drinks, 2 large 🍟🍟🍟 and a shake. Everyone liked the food, and we ate every bite. My only complaint was of the cheese and bacon 🥓 🧀 fries 🍟.. the 🥓 on the fries tasted old, and some pieces of bacon were so hard that i literally almost cracked my tooth??! Please address that issue..for future customers who order this item on your menu. Other than that one issue, food was reasonable priced for 5people to eat it was about $50, which is about $8-$10 a person... Restaurant on the inside was warm, and food came out quick and hot. Overall would come again.
Fun spot. Great for families. Tons of classic dishes such as burgers, hot dogs, tenders, and more. Ice cream is really good too. A little pricey but that’s most places these days. Always a good visit when we’re in the area.
Sweet potato fries and honey were really yummy, good portion size (for the price). The prices have gone up a lot over the years and fries are extra even though the burger is over $10.... still a fun place to stop at while visiting the river. Ice Cream prices were very high also . The building / deck could use a facelift.
Great location on the water. Food is consistently great, although expensive. That's my only con. Employees are always kind and their system to order and receive your food is very efficient. The BBQ chicken sandwich is my go to, I crave it all year long. They also have really good loaded dry options! The sand flies get really bad in June and July, but that's not their fault so I'm obviously not counting that in my rating-- Just a heads up.
Decent food for what they got. A little on the higher side for pricing, but they have a few unique items on the menu. A side of pulled pork bbq fries is almost a meal of itself. Great for getting a little grub by the water, but the ice cream prices are almost twice the price of what it should be.
It's definitely not how I remember it. It definitely needs an upgrade. They need more staff. I just don't feel the nostalgia of my childhood memories. I believe the pandemic has something to do with it. Hopefully, it will get back to it's glory days. The ice cream was good. I was impressed with their gluten-free ice cream options. I'll definitely go back and give it a try again before summer ends.
It would be nice if they were more picnic areas across the street to sit in. It is so busy at this place all summer long. The price for food is exorbitant for just a hotdog, but it is nice if you can get a seat on the balcony and see the river.
I had a fish sandwich, my husband had a burger and we had the fries with all the good stuff on it and root beer floats. The food was alright for the price, the fries were good but the toppings only hit the top bit of the big basket they give you. The establishment was quirky and cool. Absolutely loved the environment. We sat upstairs and had a perfect view of the lake and our dogs down on the car. Really nice way to finish our trip to the falls.
Food is always amazing. Sweet potato fries with butter and honey.....oh, sooo good. A must-have if you come here. Must come here at least once a summer. Just watch out for the bugs. Just wanted to add....we tried the veggie burger. It was amazing!! Can't wait to come back to get another one.
Great everything. However, please be careful if you are allergic to bees. There are a lot of them in the area looking for a sweet treat with all the ice cream. Great views from the top of the building overlooking the water.
I ordered the seafood sandwich and I had the Louisiana sweet potato fries. The sandwich was a little to sweet for me. I thought it would be a little bit spicy. Omg the fries are to die for. I remember giving the person behind the counter a side eye when he said do you want honey and butter on them. I immediately said no. on the side please. I never had honey and butter with sweet potatoes before. From the first bite 😋 I almost sink in my seat. They were very good with the honey and butter and without. Oh and the peanut butter milk shake was very good. I do recommend this place you can sit in or outdoors. Oh just FYI you must order you food first and then it's placed on a food tray and you take it to your table. You don't order from your table.
this was the last place i ate with my friend before he moved away to georgia, forever. i think it was quite tasty. however, the prices are a bit disturbing (i am the frugal friend though). but… i was in the “i don’t want to spend money” mood, and i could only allow myself the hot dog & small ice cream. if you also get into these moods, i wouldn’t suggest this place. however, if you’re feeling normal & are okay with spending slightly more than you reallyyy want to, i suggest here. prices get crazier these days anyway
Fun place with plenty of choices from soft custard to scoop ice cream to slushies. Got a twist chocolate/vanilla with hot fudge, berry slushies, root beer float and a banana chocolate shake. All were very good. Custard is very creamy. Nothing better than sitting by the Niagara River enjoying a tasty desert.
Food looks good, but the flavor was blah. Kitchen was efficient in getting our order out. Servers were pleasant and easy to get along with. $5 for a foot long with a stale bun should also include fries or drink or ice cream, something! Rest rooms are small. No handicap accessible ones. I realize that this place is an icon, but it really needs to be updated.
It's a decent place with relatively good food and a nice atmosphere but some of the prices are a bit much. I don't see how adding a few extras like nacho cheese and crumbled bacon to french fries makes a small/medium order worth 6$. The generic burgers are available anywhere and also overpriced. The sweet potato fries were rather good compared to others. Seeing the kids meals toy was a frisbee, the plate it was actually served on, was a nice touch. It's a seriously expensive place for simple and common foods but I think it's mostly about being able to eat with a nice view and good company or family. I won't go there often but I will go there again.
Don't understand how an ice cream parlor can survive not serving milkshakes. Instead they have some sort of "shake machine" ( doesn't even have milk in the name). I have upgraded my review from 2 to 3 as it feels better knowing that the owner cares. I don't have the email however, but, my only complaint is that while the staff were great, I wanted a milkshake made with vanilla ice cream, and they did not have the ability to make one, they only served "shakes". On the plus side, my kids enjoyed their cones.
It's good for what it is. Just pretty basic summer food. Burgers, fries etc.
I wouldn't take pains to return to Mississippi Mudds. I got the cheeseburger and it was just meh. I didn't get fries because they were$8.99. No thanks. For what a burger and fries would have cost here, I could have gone elsewhere and gotten a good dinner.
We took our two grandchildren and the dog today for lunch. I very pleasant afternoon. The only issues were the rolls on our hot dogs. Make sure you get them toasted. Ours were stall.
Waited 30 minutes for bland, tasteless ice cream. Staff couldn't care less that the line was long at 7pm on a Thursday and just milled around in the kitchen (we can see you). This was our second visit and we can't be bothered to go back.
Came here to eat a meal with the hubs at the end of the summer to enjoy the summer experience. We decided to eat in the dining room because the bees are very heavy this year. Sitting at the table near the front where the screen doors are I couldn't get over the filth of the peel and stick carpeting in that place. Looking at the screens over the garage doors was even more appalling covered with bugs, covered with spider webs, and the grooves at the bottom had dead bugs. If this is what I see in the dining room I'm almost afraid to see what I would see in the kitchen. The food was incredibly overpriced, and all it is, is a glorified McDonald's My fries were undercooked and all we had was a chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger. The condiments tray on the side we're sitting out in the heat with no refrigeration and no ice in the bottom to keep anything cold. I can't believe my husband and I spent $36 for this junk. Then we decided to get a hot fudge Sundae and I expected a scoop of Perry's vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce. What I got was soft serve ice cream and the crummiest fudgy sugary syrup I've ever eaten in my life for $8. Needless to say I will never come backhere again I expected more of the Berafatto family as I used to go to the Berafato beef pit in Clarence and never had a problem there. Things have really gone downhill in 20 years That's the last time I ate at Mississippi muds. And I plan on passing the words to my family and friends. Don't bother.
Ughhh. Just empty and dead inside. Chicken was stringy, chili was cold, fries soggy. Just a bad experience top to bottom. Prices are crazy high btw, literally $30 for a cheeseburger and side.
I ordered a cx sandwich on a gluten free roll . The roll was hard and looked like someone took a bite out of the bottom part. It was not worth the 18.00 I paid for this terrible sandwich. I will never go again.
Atmosphere was great, good roof-top area and view of the water. But wow did we get price gouged. $65 for 2 burgers, side fries, and 2 sodas. $15 for a single burger, fries not included, no added soda, no combo pricing. For that money I expect a waiter to bring me food and the burger have a unique combination of something, fancy it up a little. I was not impressed sadly and would not recommend getting actual food here. For that money I'm able to get a nice craft brew, a full sit down meal with AC where my food is uniquely crafted. Not meat on bread with a slap of cheese and lettuce. Do better on the food prices.
The corn on the cob was good. Hot and hamburger buns were not fresh. Onion Rings were burnt and hard. Not usually like this but disappointed
My husband and I heard this place was amazing, so we figured we would try it out one night. We literally waited in line for 30 minutes, and as it approached closing time we thought we would get kicked out before ordering. They had at least 5 people on staff in the kitchen, and I cannot count how many times the windows were not being tended to at all. A FULL line of people and no one at the window? While you CLEARLY are not understaffed. That is unacceptable. We can literally see you guys back there actively wasting your customers time who just want some damn ice cream that I'm sure takes no time to scoop. We finally get our ice cream. I ordered the brownie batter, but you might as well just call it chocolate because that is all I got. No brownie chunks whatsoever, and I paid $7 dollars for this... complete rip off. I will never be going to this establishment ever again. Customer service is dying because all businesses do is hire lazy children for pennies. I'm going back to buying quality ice cream from the grocery store. Häagen-Dazs has never let me down like this. Underwhelming, overpriced, not actually good quality like the owners like to mention in some other reviews (have you actually eaten your own ice cream before you sell it at these inflated prices)... we are from Ohio, and we are sad we left. The service for almost every business in this area has been abysmal. It makes us want to move home where people actually care and don't actively rip you off.. also, idk who lied to all of you, but Perry's ice cream is gross.. no flavor, no toppings, etc. I can think of at least 3, less expensive store brands that are infinitely better. And you should check out Handel's ice cream in ohio if you ever want to try some quality home-made ice cream. To the owners - I see you replying to people saying "we don't understand why you had this experience. We use top quality products. Our X dish is loved my others. We don't see how you could possibly feel this way." Your first problem is devaluing and invalidating your customers SUBJECTIVE experience. Arguing with the people that are trying to give you feedback saying your food/ice cream doesn't actually match the price you charge, because it's absolutely correct. Yes, you're establishment is dumpy looking. No, not everyone is going to agree because clearly some people go here because they always have. But as someone who just moved here, it does not deserve the hype and is definitely insanely overpriced. But the attitude you give to some of you're reviewers is another massive turn off. Never again!
i really tried to give this place a chance and wanted to like them but i am never coming back here again. the first time i came here i got a bacon cheeseburger. they undercooked my burger (the burger was pink) and forgot my bacon and i ended up getting sick after that. i’m like alright, maybe it was just an off day manager gave me a gift certificate and i decided to give this place a second shot. i am not someone who has any stomach problems but i ended up getting sick again. i got a burger the second time and it was the only meal i really had that day besides cereal in the morning. i ended up having cramps all night and throwing up the next day. it was my fault but i didn’t realize the burger was almost red in the middle until i took a few bites and by then it was too late. mind you, i had asked for a well done burger and this was not well done. they seriously need to start checking their burgers with a meat thermometer, i’m not sure if they take food safety serious enough
Went there yesterday and it was so expensive for a hot dog and a chicken sandwich. We could have gone for a steak dinner. The food was OK tasting at best. This place has gone way down hill. Won't be returning.
