Good craft coffee. Plenty of seating for groups or individuals.
There aren't many cosy coffee shops like this in Tempe. The atmosphere is completely opposite of other corporate coffee shops with busy drive thru windows. Small but functional interior is decorated with interesting artworks and comfortable seating. Many vertical dividers between seats help to provide privacy and noise reduction. Our latte and cappuccino drinks were strong but unfortunately were served in paper cups.
Our neighborhood spot for years, Steve’s is a little slice of heaven between a rental car place and an Indian restaurant in a basic Tempe strip center. The coffee is French pressed and the espresso drinks actually taste like espresso. The vanilla lattes aren’t quite the magic they used to be, but are really, really good. The surprise is the level of the food. We’re hooked on the farro bowl with farro, sausage, avocado, onions, risotto cheese, tomatoes and a poached egg. It’s filling but is good fuel. The homemade bread and homemade jelly are a bonus. The breakfast sandwiches, croissants, peanut butter cookies and, of course, the avocado toast also are specialties. The service is great and there are plenty of places to hang out, even now. They even have a liquor license. One thing they don’t have is WiFi so be prepared - or enjoy a bit of conversation or the music. It’s a great place for coffee on the run, catching up with friends, or a business meeting.
We enjoyed finding this great spot on a recent weekend trip to Tempe. Coffee was excellent. Food was creative and tasty. I love the atmosphere here. And it’s always nice to support a local business. I’d highly recommend this as a place to meet up, so some remote work, or just have some good coffee.
Delicious Mocha and gorgeous! Frank has such an art about him, my drink was yummy and it still had a heart down to my last sip. Will definitely be back to try the avocado toast
Amazing local coffee shop. Nicole is an amazing barista and made a great vanilla latte. Highly recommend this great place
Great coffee shop with a cozy vibe that had a lot of great places to sit. The background music was good with the volume low enough to read or carry on a conversation. The peppermint mocha latte that I had was delightful 😊 Refills on drip coffee were $.50.
I love the matcha! Yes I’m basic but as of now I have been to 14 other coffee shops in the valley and this one has the best Matcha by far!❤️ Review my photos and picture yourself in this environment and know that you are in for a good time! Tell them Darrell sent you!❤️
Great little quaint coffee shop. The workers are friendly, there are a lot of tables and it’s a nice spot to get some work done. WiFi is not too bad. It’s be nicer to have more outlets but the drinks and the atmosphere make this place a great spot to work out of or hang out. Love the dimmer room. Would recommend this place
Finally a REAL euro style coffeehouse! It's tucked away in a corner of and otherwise dreary looking shopping mall but once you're inside prepare to be amazed! Intimate atmosphere. Lots of art on the walls. Comfy seating and very very delicious food. The brunch was simple but nice. You can order a mimosa or bloody Mary. This is the first coffee house I've gone to where alcohol is served. Naturally there is a wide diversity of gourmet coffees. I recommend the Cafe Europa.
I love Steve's- it's a short walk from my house and is a great place to take myself for an artist's date! People go there to have conversations, to write, to play cards, to create. It's wonderful. I'm especially fond of their breakfast sandwich on a croissant and their classic. The baristas are the best.
I hadn't been to this place since its huge renovation! They did an amazing job. It's the kind of cozy coffee shop I like to hang out in until they tell me to leave.
Really cute place with a unique feel. Got the breakfast and a latte. Cost is a little up there for food but it seems like high quality food and tasted pretty good. The service was kind and courteous and the atmosphere was probably my favorite. Very relaxed and quiet. You could probably work on your laptop here with a coffee for a few hours.
My espresso drinks are always delicious here and today I had the breakfast bowl and it was so good. Always friendly staff and love the vibes inside to sit down with friends, or work independently. Highly recommend!
Local & laid back is what I like about Steve's. It has a charm about the place and the corners, booths , covey holes & places to converse is unique and versatile to just about any type of meeting. Great coffee & food. Staff is uber friendly as well.
Hand crafted specialty coffee drinks using fresh, locally roasted coffee beans with consistent great service. What's not to love? I would rather my dollars support a local business and Steve's makes it easy as their quality is bar none above any coffee chain I've tried. Best coffee house in Tempe.
Drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is great. Lack of power outlets though.
What a nice coffee place! There is lots of unique seating areas. The coffee is yummy and the staff super nice! I can't wait to come back. I did have a hard time finding Steve's Espresso with Google directions. You can find Steve's between Chutneys and Enterprise. Update to review. Steve's now has wifi, not sure if this is good or bad, but it is the way of the world. The coffee and food is yummy! The staff is friendly!
The greatest coffee shop I have ever been to. I was unfortunately stranded in Tempe and was trying to figure out a way to get to Tucson, and the lady at the front counter was just so sweet and absolutely made my day! Their decor is gorgeous, the coffee is AWESOME, and their staff are so empathetic and caring. I love this place and I hope to get the chance to come back some day!
We had a meeting here.. only 5 of us, so we didn't need a lot of space... It was PERFECT! We were able to have our meeting in a relaxed setting. For someone who isn't a "go get coffee somewhere" type of person, I told them what I was looking for and what they made for me was great! We will definitely be back for our next meeting.
I live less than a mile from Steve's Espresso but had never been in before today. A friend from out of town was coming into Tempe and I wanted to find a place we could hang out. I'd seen the sign before but had no idea what a nice little place place this was. I got tea and my friend got coffee and we both got avocado toast. The tea was good and the food was so delicious. The presentation was lovely and the combination of sweet/fruity and sour/salty was so good. The place is very. . . Cute isn't the right word. . . Attractive. It's colorful but not really bright- purple walls and a lot of exposed wood. Kind of lived in. Nothing was new or fancy but more comfortable. We sat on one end of a large table since all the small tables were taken. Could definitely come with a large group. Our table had maybe 8 chairs. It was a long wooden dining table with kitchen chairs. The area near the door was noisy but we were able to chat on the other side closer to the kitchen and it wasn't too loud. I'd definitely come again and I'd highly recommend the avocado toast.
Best caramel latte in the area! I love Steve’s, the coffee never dissapoints!!🤩
If you've shown enough interest to read the reviews, you should go here. I visit pretty frequently since it is the coffee place on the way to work. From repeat experience, the coffee is hand crafted and always amazing. The staff has always been friendly and genuinely nice. The owner (who I imagine is Steve) is there on occasion and he is also friendly and you can tell cares about his shop and satisfaction of his customers. I've only ever eaten the breakfast brioche with hot sauce but that is also fantastic.
This place is a different coffee, brunch experience. Great music, fun seating, unique art, pleasant and helpful staff. The food is divine. The toast and jam is simple and delicious. The bowl was amazing! Jackson at the counter is delightful 😊
One of my favorite spots in Phoenix. Chocolate chip scones and house bread are amazing and the team is so friendly! The espresso drinks are also top notch.
Excellent food, if only a bit small on portion size. Atmosphere is pretty cozy and intimate. They ACTUALLY KNOW how to make a POACHED EGG. I can't tell you how important this is. Apparently it's the new thing to over cook poached eggs - but that's just disgusting. These guys though, they know how to make it right. I got a farro bowl, mocha, and bottomless mimosas, total before tip came out to $37.
From the outside you'll wonder if this is really a hidden gem. Then you'll step inside and wonder where this has been your whole life. Great coffee and tea, the booths are awesome, lots of seating areas, and several gluten free options for food. I love the breakfast tacos. Great place to chill and get work done.
Service is exceptional, beverages are delicious and fairly priced, the vibes are immaculate, and the playlist EATS every single time…both times I’ve been in I’ve heard Amy Winehouse and I just heard one of my favorite bossa nova tunes, summer samba.
I haven't been to Steve's in a long time, it has changed a lot! They've always had really great espresso and very fast service. Now that they expanded the space they have turned it into a fantastic coffee shop. It's far more welcoming and conducive to good conversation. It also provides a good space to work or study. Still the same great espresso though. Highly recommended.
This is one of my favorite spots to meet up and grab coffee! Their chai tea is perfect, flavorful but not overwhelmingly sweet. I also love their spices used in the avocado toast. Highly recommend this local gem!
Excellent breakfast croissant. Friendly staff. Cool little cafe you’d never expect from the look of the exterior. Quick service and reasonably priced. Highly recommend going here.
Good coffee! They did not have straws which was weird, but the espresso drinks were quality coffee with quality ingredients, sweet but not too sweet. If dutch bros and star bucks are not your thing, way too sweet for you, and you like actual coffee, try this place. 5 stars
How did I not know this place existed?!? Awesome little cafe in an unlikely spot. Beautiful interior... It feels like a cross between an old library and an art gallery and a living room. Great espresso too!!
This place is located on the end of a rather "vanilla" strip mall, but don't let that discourage you from coming in. They've worked hard to create a charming and pleasant atmosphere, filled with friendly staff. This is a great place to hang out to catch up with a friend or have a work meeting. Oh yeah, the coffee's good too!
Friendly staff, delicious coffee, and better prices than the Starbucks down the road. I love their breakfast sandwich/iced coffee combo. Definitely recommend!
Amazing coffee! Great breakfast tacos with yummy spicy honey salsa and other tasty treats. Delicious adult beverages too, though a little expensive unless you're having the special. Great local hang without laptop jockeys.
Relaxing, comfy and the sofas are amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone, especially someone new. It is the PERFECT lounging area if you like a good, darker atmosphere with some good coffee. Also, the food is good enough, especially for a coffee shop. I loved it there, it'll be my new little spot.
The vibes are renaissance, but tavern, but also coffee shop?? I love it. Interesting, colorful, friendly lighting to work by (multiple warm chandeliers), clean, and cool. Got the scone on a review recommendation and would definitely eat 5 more. Aztec mocha is delicious and internet is fast. Will be coming back!
Delicious and refined plates, unique coffee options and fair prices. Great place to crush the patriarchy.
Always a great time and my go to coffee shop when in the area and sometimes when I am not in the area.
One of the best coffeeshops in the local area! I come almost every week to meet with friends; the London Fog with espresso is amazing and the instrumental music isn’t intrusive on conversations or focus.
I think it's been a while since I've reviewed, but this is hands down my favorite coffee shop - for food, drinks, the people, the boozy stuff, the ambiance, and our patrón, Sir Steve. Sad to see Felicity go, who's one of the OG employees, but she's off to bigger and better things. She made me this face in my coffee! Going out on top 😂
This place makes the best London fog I might have ever had... Very creamy and very sweet in a good way
Better atmosphere than most (Starbucks), students frequent, power along the southern bench. Extreme Bean may have live Friday night music - but this place has booze! (cocktails) And now the tradeoff - it closes at 5:30 pm, so its strictly a day shop. Extreme bean, nearby, is open till 8. And the coffee rush shops are open till 11.
One of my favorite places when I am in the area. Staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Everything is always great and everyone I bring there tells me that they will add it to their list of places to frequent.
I am visiting from out of town and i’m so happy i was staying so close to this gem of a spot! came here every morning for the 3 days i was here. their pastries, coffee beverages and breakfast options did not disappoint. quality was up top and very unique items which i really enjoyed. i would highly recommend! loved their Rose vanilla iced latte
Met a friend here for coffee/breakfast and had a great experience! The barista was very friendly and the coffee & food were amazing. Loved the breakfast sandwich and the Coco Mocha was to die for. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy too. I'll definitely be coming back!!
Great coffee. A good food selection. The most friendly staff! I really enjoyed working visiting this coffee shop.
10/10 local spot! Not only are the espresso drinks delicious, but i look forward to my conversations everyday with Nicole, Jackson and Emmy. I also love their dark cozy vibe! Perfect reading nook. Food is super good too!
Finally! A coffee shop that caters to all my business travel needs! Wifi, places to power up my devices, big work space, great espresso, food, reasonable prices, great service, nice music mixes! Thank you Steve's!
As soon as you walk into the cafe you feel welcomed! The barista was very helpful as I asked her suggestion what's her Fav? I tried a seasonal Pumpkin Latte...really tasty and she made sure I could taste coffee as I ordered..She even suggested other amazing coffees..I suggest stopping in they not only have coffee but amazing cocktails too...
Nice people, smooth espresso, and super delicious breakfast sandwich. I got the "breakfast sandwich" and it was by far one of the best I've ever had. I wish I had ordered a second one. I am also enjoying the honey vanilla latte with extra honey. My partner enjoyed his matcha latte. Will definitely come back if ever in the area again. Thank you!
A friend recommended meeting here for coffee. I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a small vanilla chai latte with oat milk and a chocolate chip scone. The latte was sooo good!!! I almost went back and ordered a large. The scone was buttery and not dry at all. It was very delicious! Plenty of seating. We will be back!
A truly excellent local gem of the community!! I always enjoy my visits here. Shoutout to Andres for the amazing service, great energy, and fantastic coffee!
Awesome experience.. I came in looking for Caffeine 🤭🤣🤣 And Absolutely found it and didn't break my fast. Sugar-free syrup was available and checked all my boxes.. The barista was great giving recommendations thank you for such great Service!! And Delicious coffee ☕️ ✨️
Love this place. Great coffee and local vibe. Locally owned business!
Super cute place with the most comfy chairs! Can sit in a whole couch, or a booth, or classic arm chairs, or even a dining table if you want. It's truly like being at home! Plus their bottomless Mimosas are only $16, I paid $24 for 2 mimosas at another breakfast restaurant before I got here.
Absolutely love the vibe! Very relaxed, awesome food, excellent coffee. Will be back.
Comfortable, cushy seating? Check Nice, subdued, calming dark tones and not-too-bright lighting? Check Chill, anonymous vibe? Check Tables to get work done? Check Friendly staff that can make a frothy cappuccino? Check It even has little booths groups. One weak point: A dearth of electrical outlets. This place ticks lots of boxes 👍 Recommend!
Amazing coffee and great bites! I love the atmosphere and coming here to study.
Great coffee (French press) in mugs. Great seating areas to read, chat, whatever. Eclectic mix of furniturue which I like. Music is best part. An odd (in a good way) collection of music you likely have never heard before. Wish I had the playlist.
Hi there so I am just so happy to have found another coffee shop. I really like this place. The coffee was really good. I had a really good flavor. I ate a scone, which is really good yeah no complaints really.
Stopped here while I was in the area for a cup of coffee, the atmosphere inside was very unexpected. Sort of speak easy meets brunch lounge, I absolutely adored it. Ended up trying their butterscotch latte and breakfast sandwhich on a croissant, both were delectable. Would definitely stop by here again when I'm in the area!
Great place with great selections for coffee and teas. Very quiet but allowed for good conversation, no one rushing you.
It's a medium sized, Tempe-grungy coffee shop that has plenty of seating and great lounging areas. When I go back, I would like try some of their food, they have a nice menu of breakfast items and pastry area. The latte I ordered was really nice. I will definitely be back sometime soon.
You won't find a better neighborhood coffee shop than Steve's. Great staff, lovely coffee and mice menu and even some drinks. And if doesn't feel like yet another corporate designed little shop Stay try to you Steve's
I had no issues, I have no reason to give less than a 5 star, the vibe is great, good selection of drinks and coffees, even cocktails for those who imbibe. Sit down options and very spacious not too bright inside with restaurant level lighting and some cafe items. I ordered latte and Italian soda. Both were good, service got a 4* for not mentioning not to stir the soda and cream because it rapidly fizzes up. Would recommend to coffee and Cafe enjoyers.
This is a cozy spot next to an Enterprise rental place. There is plenty of seating, a little dark, but the food was delicious. I also had a favorite in the store, decaf, and it did not disappoint! I will return.
I loved everything about this place. Great vibe, comfortable seating with couches and nice private feeling spaces, outdoor seating as well. I had a broccoli cheddar quiche and it was so good like homemade, came with sourdough toast and a lovely jam. I had the iced rose vanilla latte and loved it. If I lived out here I would come here all the time - I’m going to miss the coffee! Staff was kind as well
The coffee here is really nice and reasonably priced compared to other places. The space is conducive to a meet up with friends, a business meeting, or a study sesh, although I would bring some headphones as it gets a little noisy. They have big tables for groups and small ones with ample outlets underneath for working people/students. My only hope is that someday their menu becomes more vegan friendly, although there is an option or two!
Buen café artesanal. Amplio espacio para grupos o personas solas.
Me gustó su concepto
Not as much coffee selection as I'd like. Most I've tried here are super sweet. Nice place to kick back. Breakfast tacos are perfect though.
I like this place and the coffee is really good. They have alcoholic drinks that I would love to try but they close at 5. One of the guys that works behind the counter is always upbeat and lots of fun! They have comfortable seating areas booths, sofas, comfy chairs ..it's really a cool place. I don't understand why more people don't know about Steve's!
Very nice atmosphere, currently decorated for Halloween. The brewed coffee was on point. The pastries tasted very fresh. :)
First time here, saw this place on Google and had good reviews decided to try it. I wasn't disappointed, reviews were dead on. Good service, drinks and food. I ordered avocado toast and cold brew both were good. My friend ordered Aztec coffee and salmon wrap. Her order was good too. Would definitely be coming back.
I used toconehere for Tempe meetings but have not been here for awhile. Look who’s back! I am here to meet an associate, drink string espresso and plan for world domination and I am at the right location! Since I was here last they have expanded and opened up more seating. They have added more baked goods and added alcohol and take out coffee carafes. This place is fantastic. The baristas were friendly and energetic and suggested a great croissant for me to try. I’ll be back.
Extremely disappointed. Coffe was more foam than actual coffee. And the blueberry muffin was stale. Not worth the $11 and change a muffin from the near by fry's would have been fresher. I expected at the very least the pastries would have been made fresh in house daily. Not left ocer from the day prior.
Nice space, but a limited range of espresso. Coffee doesn't seem to be their strong suit, but a good hangout spot.
We’ve given this coffee shop a couple tries, but today was likely the last. We ordered two cold brews and both were swimming with coffee grounds. Had to swish with water to get them out of my mouth. After dumping out of the coffee this is what was left in the bottom of my cup. I use a French press as well but never have this consistent of an issue with grounds. Just threw away $12 on coffee this morning.
First time trying Steve's. You walk up and order at the counter, then find a seat. Ordered a Continental breakfast from their menu. You can have your eggs poached or scrambled only. I ordered mine poached but they came scrambled. The bread was good but it was supposed to be toasted and was not. How do you serve bread that has clearly not been toasted? The preserves they served were tasty and fresh but again, on untoasted bread. I also ordered a medium vanilla latte. Tasted like vanilla and cream. Their ratios of espresso to milk and sweetener need some fine tuning. The staff was very nice and friendly, but the same staff served a plate with the wrong eggs and bread that wasn't toasted. Did I mention the bread wasn't toasted? Not a good first impression. Doubtful I'll be back, especially with so many breakfast and coffee options within just a couple of miles.
I stopped by Steve’s Espresso to get some work done since my home internet was down. This was one of the first spots I tried, unfortunately, like a few other coffee shops and even the local library, their WiFi was also down. I should have checked before purchasing, but since you have to make a purchase to sit in, I went ahead and ordered a plain cold brew and settled in. The café itself is really cozy and has a welcoming, laid-back vibe. It’s a smaller space but surprisingly has a lot of seating, standard café tables, comfy couches, coffee tables, and even individual seats with footrests. There are also a couple of outdoor tables. The staff was kind and accommodating, and I can definitely see this being a great place to meet up with friends or read a book. Unfortunately, the coffee didn’t match the atmosphere. I love a good cold brew and was hoping for something smooth and balanced. Instead, what I got had an off-color (suggesting it hadn’t rested long enough), and the flavor was uncomfortably tangy with a lingering bitterness. It tasted like it may have been brewed too quickly or with the wrong grind size. It could also come down to water or bean quality, but I doubt that’s the issue given how fast beans turn over in most shops and the likelihood of filtered water being used. Maybe it was a bad batch, but based on this experience, I don’t think I’d return, even if I needed an emergency workspace again. That said, if you’re looking for a cozy spot to chat, it might still be worth a visit. I took the drink home, trashed about half of it, whipped up some caramel cold foam, and that made it drinkable.
Usually we like this place; however, this time the barista just completely ignored my order, my boyfriend said “they just ran with whatever they wanted.” I ordered an English Breakfast with 2% milk and 1 packet of regular sugar - they made an English Breakfast with steamed oat milk and stevia. Nice, unique place for the area since everything else is chains, I just wish they’d actually pay attention to your order and show a little bit of care in their work :/
Ordered a large coffee, Menu said "French press" it was actually out of an ern. No real cream - only half and half (think 7-11) , Coffee was room temperature, I was told I could microwave it. I thru it out when leaving.
