We booked this wonderful place for my 30th birthday. Hidden gem! The restaurant is right on the water. There are some cute ducks swimming around. Everything on the menu was delicious and cooked to perfection. The onion soup is a must have. Service was very attentive and friendly. The room was cozy and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Hot water and a really awesome electric fireplace. Rocking chairs out front. The lodge is right at the bottom of the entry of the Sequoia National Park.

Location is great, if you manage to book a table by the river as we did the experience is quite nice :) food is good and the staff was incredible. Starting from the lady at the entrance to the gentleman who served our table everything was perfect. They both had a warm smile despite the day was incredibly busy, they were kind and welcoming. I work in the hospitality industry with Marriott (my wife as well) and we can tell the difference when we see professionals at work! Give them a raise! Thank you from Rome :)

We stayed at a Vrbo five minutes away and the owner recommended this restaurant to us. So glad he did. We had driven from San Diego and were starving by the time we arrived. Our server Taylor was absolutely awesome! The food was perfect-appetizer, meal and dessert, and the view was even better. After our day in the park the next day we were able to sneak back at the last hour of service to grab a burger. Once again, we had Taylor as our server and everything was great. Would definitely come back if we find ourselves in the area again.

I didn't like the strong smell of air freshener / cleaning solution in the room, and the sink was a bit clogged, but otherwise the room was the fine. I was really surprised how good the food was. I had low expectations at almost 9 pm on a Monday and sort of forced to come here. The prices looked a bit high. However, after ordering I would say they're kind of justified. All our food was tasty across the board. The pork chop was so juicy, seasoned so well, and seared just right with just the right texture to it. My seafood crepe was delicious. The baby back ribs were tender and delicious. The rice pilaf was so good with this dryish texture I like. The red snapper fillet was also cooked and seasoned well. The server Taylor was great, attentive, and a bit funny (and sounds like Norm Macdonald).

It's a very good restaurant, but their service. It was not that exceptional, as expected. We end up waiting for over in 50 minutes just to get our food 🙃 😩 😒 when we first got there, we requested, to sit outside we were told there is no space available. When I looked around there was plenty of space available, after a while our server was able to move us outside, thanks to him. the food was okay, but they need to work on the service i know location wise. It's a great view, and every thing but if they don't work in their service, people may not start coming in.

Restaurant. Dinner. Amazing for tesla driver. I parked and was charging while eating for free. Plenty of chargers at parking lot! Next to river and amazing atmosphere! Food is disappointing. Food is 3 stars. Pork rib was dry and not juicy. Not fresh. Salad is over dressed. Baked potato was not hot, even cold. But very kind and nice service.

Great place next to Sequoia National Park. It’s right outside the gate of Sequoia National Park. The restaurant is so cool, it is next to a lake. There are even ducks down by the lake. We ordered Baked Brie $20. It was ok. The Baked Brie was good. Soft cheese with a crispy almond crust. The jam was really good too. But the bread was just plain bread. Nothing special. Sequoia Burger $23 was good. It didn’t look at good, cuz the bun and lettuce wasn’t put together, but it was good. The fries were not salty and were actually perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely a place to stop by before you go in Sequoia or after. Limited parking spaces.

Caitlyn was fantastic. This is a great little place to enjoy your nice meal before going up or coming down the mountain. The fish and chips were great but the coleslaw tasted a bit off The clam chowder could have had more clams and less potatoes. Next time we are having the locally raised beef. The beer was great. Had to have The Sherman IPA. Great views. Reservations recommended. Tesla (slow and expensive) charging too. 3 spots.

Nice dining experience with a beautiful setting! The food was good - the salmon was decent and everything was prepared well, but nothing that will wow you. The food here is mediocre. The lamb soup was bland and the ribs were okay - there were some areas that were good and others where the ribs were dry and over cooked. The Rueben was actually pretty good and so were the fries. The view here is great!

We only tried the restaurant (not the hotel). 5/5 for location, amazing views from the outdoor seating... You are right next to the river and the restaurant itself is 5 mins away from the national park entrance. The indoor seating was charming. The food was bland and really over priced for the quantity and taste. Service was average, moderate wait times even though we went for a late breakfast and the place was nearly empty.

We just came for food after coming out of Sequoia. Our server, Jesse, was charismatic and fun. The rest of the staff were all ready to jump in and refill anything we needed. The food definitely left something to be desired, especiallyfor the price. The ravioli had an odd taste and the marina was watery and flavorless. It was in a beautiful spot though.

Great location, but that’s where the positives end. The Gateway Restaurant and Lodge has a beautiful location right at the entrance to Sequoia National Park. You can’t beat the convenience. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience didn’t live up to the setting. Check-in was chaotic since the same register handled hotel guests, restaurant payments, and even snow-chain rentals and sales , with just one person trying to manage it all. Our room had several issues: dusty shelves, a soaked carpet under the air conditioner, and a toilet that wasn’t installed securely and wobbled. When we asked about switching rooms, we were told the lodge was fully booked. With few nearby options and the late hour, we stayed the night but we wouldn’t stay here again and can’t recommend it.

If you want food. Come here. If you want service don’t ask for the girl with black hair. She never came to our table once. Brought our mayonnaise when we was already done with our sandwiches. Don’t get me started on them. DO NOT get the French dip unless you want lots of fat and tough meat. $85 for poor quality food.

Our experience was horrible and discriminatory. We had a reservation scheduled for 7:00 pm. Drove up there, a little early, sat and waited. Nothing out of the ordinary. It was approximately 7:00pm, and they sat us near a window so we could look out. Granted seeing that the place was busy- lots of staff around us... but then, 7:15 came. Hmm. No server to even take any drinks. Then, 7:20 came. Hmm. No server- and two separate set of people came in at 7:20, behind us. They were given roses- it was Valentine's Day- I get it- but I thought "Where were our roses I wondered. Then, not even five minutes after they sit down, their waiter comes up and takes their drinks/order. One could argue that maybe our waitress was so busy that they could not get to us, but again, at this point, we were at the 30-minute mark, and we never got served our drinks; nonetheless, our order. Then a separate waiter served the second set of people who walked in also after us... by then, the first group that had been served then had their salads. I was furious. Their waiter comes our way- of the many times he walked pass us during these 30 minutes of waiting- and I said, "Excuse me, we have been waiting long before any parties you served- we are still waiting- where is our waitress?" The man seemed to be in a hurry- he did not show any signs of apology and acted like what I said was a nuisance to him- then he said, "Oh, I will find out your waiter...." another 5 minutes passed. Being a diabetic, you can imagine how I also felt- because I need to eat at a specific time. Rightfully upset- I turned around and blurted out to the woman who initially took us in and sat us down, and asked her, "Are we EVER going to be served?" She gave me a nasty look and said something to the effect that they will find this said person to take our order. We just left. Things that popped into our heads, "is this place a homophobic owned restaurant, and this was intentional?" Makes you wonder, especially since this is in the central valley. So it's safe to say we will never go there again. I know this will not affect their thinking, but at least someone will know of our experience. I am already telling my sister and friends about our experience- the funniest thing is, after we left, we found a much better restaurant and still had our valentine's day- gave the waitress a $60 tip- we literately got our drinks and food within the same amount of time this place refused to serve us in.

you better get some good reviews. because you just lost me as a potential guest . You need to push those negative reviews way down. Dont drop the ball now. you lost me and a party of 15. it will only continue to get worse if you dont get some good reviews to push these negative ones down and out of the view of the everyday shopper. ;-)

Honestly very disappointed in this place. I had great hopes given that it was a location to stay that was suggested and booked thru the NPS. The great views and good location only go so far. Unfortunately what we found was an over priced, run down dump... My wife, 1 year old son and myself stayed here for 2 nights. I booked the "honey moon cabin" because we were on national park road trip for our sons first birthday. The first night we stayed there we had started the morning in Death Valley and had driven all day to get there. When we checked in we had an hour and a half of daylight left so we decided to spend it in the park. When we got back that night we ate dinner at the restaurant which was about x3 the cost of what it should have been, a simple plate of chicken alfredo was $40 which in my opinion was no better than olive garden. After our extremely over priced meal we went to our room in hopes of putting our son to bed and winding down for the night. This is when we discovered the shower was completely inoperable due to all of the water coming out of the button on the handle not the head, a problem I am sure did not happen over night. Next I looked under the bathroom sink only to find a 4x4 block of wood and a scissor jack holding up the vanity sink. And to top it all off while we were cleaning up the room to check out, we found a dirty pair of women's underwear underneath the bed from a previous guest. Save yourself hundreds of dollars and stay a little further away in town. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice get away.

Worst customer service… Completely Disappointed. Restaurant was not busy when we arrived in a group of 4.. Plenty of tables available. I Asked the host to be placed on waiting list as well as the wait time for our group size if there was any. Host was on the tablet looking for a table to seat us & just decided to walk away and get side tracked. I had to ask her on multiple occasions for the wait time as she was side tracked talking to coworkers/ walking around the restaurant as if she was lost & had no care in the world. Recommend staying away from this place.!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Perfect place to have a beer, but not for food. The location is perfect and the service is great. The only concern is the food. We ordered ravioli priced at $31 and received only four pieces with no sauce. There are many other restaurants that offer a river view, so if you’re going just to enjoy the view with a drink, it’s perfect. However, avoid ordering food, or you’ll feel overcharged.

Paid WAY too much for this very run down, outdated lodge. Everything was shabby and dirty. There was a half-drunk soda in a solo cup on the kitchen table. Staff was rude and parking for the rooms is the same as the restaurant and when we arrived the lot was full. We asked where we should park instead and they just kept saying to park in the parking lot that was full in a very annoyed tone. We had driven all day to arrive there and just wanted to rest. So we just parked in front of the dumpsters where a sign said not to as there was no other choice!!! The only good thing was the two room cabin we stayed in had a nice patio looking out over the river. Other than that, I would not recommend this place.

This was the start of our trip to Sequoia and it had to begin with a terrible experience. After we ordered our food, we asked a server who walked by our table to take a family photo for us and she responded " I'll be back, I am currently busy". So she walked by again about 10 mins later and rolled her eyes at us while passing by to attend her table (section). As she passed by again, my husband asked her, can you take a photo for us now? And she responded "I am still very busy" with a very nasty attitude. If you dont want to take our photos just simple say I'll get your sever over to take you photos, instead of the attitude and eye rolls. Just because we are not sitting in your section or you are not serving us, u can treat a customer like that LANA! Yes the server name is LANA. You shouldn't be working in serving/customer service industry, especially in a touristy restaurant, if you dont have customer service etiquette! I am a restaurant owner and this behavior is unacceptable. If any of my staff do this, I'll fire that person in an instant! As for our own server, Sarah is nice but she put in our order, served us and never came back to check on us until she bought out our check at the end. We asked our server to get the Manager out so we can tell her about Lana, as we were talking to the manager, Lana walked my and smirked at us and tapped on the manager's shoulder and rolled her eyes again! Tables next to us heard and saw everything that happened and we're nice to take our family photos for us and shook their head at the service we received.
