Still one of my favorite places to go to in the South Bay area. The place only takes cash, but it is affordable and there are plenty of options. I always recommend the Oreo Twister.
Great old school ice cream spot. We come here often and they have such a diverse menu we aren't even close to making it halfway though. Cash only though so come prepared!
I have loved their ice cream for the last 40 plus years. The price is a little high but I'll still keep going because the ice cream is the best.
Its a nice place to go with friends and the it has all different kinds of flavored ice cream and they make new ones from time to time
Quick, delicious and no complaints. Exactly what we needed for ice cream on a random day and Fosters was open and delicious.
Delicious ice cream. Quick service. I had a brownie/cherry swirl and my husband had a chocolate dipped cone.
LOVE this historic place! So happy it was not replaced with housing. Has been there as long as I can remember, prices are good, desserts are delicious and there is a wide variety!
Still the best place to eat ice cream all of it is great
Best soft serve ice cream in Torrance. The vanilla dipped in chocolate cone is amazing.
Delicious ice cream and shakes! This is one of the few places near me that makes malts, so I’m here quite often!
Nothing like getting some ice cream here and reminisce of my high-school days. Always fresh and the friendly service is a big plus
Stopped by during my lunch time to grab a triple cheese berry shake for this warm weather in Torrance the best in town freshly prepared highly recommended the drink!
I have been coming back to this particular location since I was in high school over 20 years now it never misses a beat. I've been to several other Frosty Freeze but this location is the best.
Nothing bad to say about anyplace with ice cream. The worker wasn't chatty but, that's ok. Ice cream makes everything great!! I Love Ice Cream!!
Loved this place for ice cream sundaes and malted Milk shakes for 60 + years. No food at this one though
The best Banana milkshake with malt. Service is an experience on the spot of the best, taste and feeling. I finalize my treat so great like freeze the spot tiger 🐅 here. I got go get its lite......
This is a neighborhood place that has been in business for many years, as it can be seen by the look of the facility. It's very popular, while we were eating our ice cream, so many people showed up and the line was long as it was only 1 staff attending patrons. They have a nice selection and tasted so good.
This us an Original Fosters Freeze, been in this building since the 50's for sure maybe longer. Great ice cream, friendly workers& reasonable prices. Located in Old Downtown Torrance, we usually get our ice cream & then walk around town to see what's going on "downtown ". Very nostalgic!!!
Cash only, delicious ice cream. Usually a line but worth the wait. My son gets the Oreo twister. So yummy.
I always get a banana chocolate malt and they never disappoint. My wife and daughter get something fancy and they always love it. Bring cash. Their ATM machine was destroyed.
Best Ice Cream in SoCal
Amazing ice cream and friendly staff. Sure the lines can get long, but with the high quality and great taste of their classic Oreo Twister it's a no-brainer to come back at least once a week!
Truly a nostalgic experience of getting ice cream 70's style. Icecream is off the charts..
Delicious icecream and fast service! Definitely wait around the order area as they make your order right away!
Excellent place for an ice cream the quality of the ice cream scoop is top notch here even though it looks like the dive, believe me it isn't their service, here they don't speak much English however you won't come for the service, you come for the ice cream! Parking is ample on both sides, and it appears that it once was a drive-through sadly it is not.
Historic and unbelievably good. If you want ice cream this is the place on the westside that you cannot miss. It has all the old advertising and decor of the place since as long as i can remember (20years) . go here and you will smile
NOTHING COMPARES! This has been a downtown Torrance staple for years. If it goes down, so will old town Torrance. Love this place. The quality, the fact that it's been around for decades. This is the original Foster's Freeze, and the fact that this jewelry still stands strong in DT Torrance is because of the people ❤
For the best dessert on any given day, you can't beat Foster Freeze in Old Town Torrance. 🍦🍨 Foster Freeze always reminds me school field trips and saving forever to get a special treat! This particular location has stuck to the original thought and only sells ice cream products....no food is sold here. I love to get my medium hot fudge sundae with strawberries added. 🥰 Oh, remember they only take cash, no ATM debit or credit cards accepted and no bill over $20 accepted either...and they don't charge tax. 😊
We celebrated the start of the weekend by getting ice cream. Foster's is the BEST!! We were lucky to beat the line. We only waited behind 2 people, and when we left, the line was 10+ people deep. Its worth the wait. My son's favorite is banana split, and I love the slushies with only one pump of syrup. Still sweet, but not too sweet.
Great local spot. The ice cream tastes so authentic, creamy and delicious. It does get pretty busy during the summer My personal favorites are the chocolate banana milkshakes, ice cream cones and banana sundaes
**CASH ONLY!!** I love this Fosters Freeze and it makes me happy that I still see a long line even after inflation and COVID. I always get my small vanilla with a chocolate dip cone which always hits the spot after eating at some other local restaurants within the area. I never had an issue with parking since there is a small parking lot behind the store and street parking nearby.
One of my favorite ice creams. You must try chocolate dipped vanilla cone!!
Foster freeze is great ! I've been going there for almost 60 years ! Yesterday went for my birthday and got a LARGE Birthday Cake Cone and it was magnificent the shell coating was delicious and the soft vanilla ice cream was supurb and memorable . The gal preparing serving and countering does an excellent job and everyone was a happy customer
Got my dad the banana and berries smoothie and he loved it! Super clean place. Very nice you don't have to walk inside. You order at the window, pick up at the window and go. There is a park nearby you sit at. I am doing keto so I didn't get anything. They have so many options more than I knew about. What is so awesome is that it literally looks like a throwback from the 50's. I will add pics next time I go!! Check out Fosters Freeze! You will love it!!
Classic, just like you remember. Huge menu, great flavor.
Low key post its a never miss for me when in the area kick service consistently Great desert
I hope this establishment stays forever. You can tell when you walk up to this location that it has probably been around since the 80s if not way before that. It looks old and can use a face lift but it hope they don't modernize it ever. I see it like a piece of old Torrance or the simpler days back in the 80s and 90s. Their ice cream is very good too. I always just get a vanilla cone because it's what I grew up eating. I'm so happy to know that I can still get it when I want. Cash only too BTW! Please please never change fosters freeze!
Fosters Freeze is a local tradition. Lots of menu choices. Their classic soft serve is delicious. Impressive how quickly 1 or 2 ladies make the orders when there’s a line. English isn’t their first language so some reviewers need to be nice and more culturally aware. Bring cash—no cards accepted.
Fosters Freeze is my son's and my favorite ice cream. He LOVES the large Oreo Twister. My favorite is the large half and half cone. I love when I get to the cone and the ice cream has made it a little mushy so the tastes are blended. They have so many wonderful items to choose from and everything is scrumptious. Go NOW! Update: The Triple Berry Cheesecake Twister is also delish. If you're in Torrance, you must go!
I had the triple Berry Cheesecake and my friend had the Dirt and Worms. While the place is cash only, you'll be happy to see there is a convenience atm right outside the shop. That said you get quite a bit of ice cream possibly more than you can finish with the products shown in the images. If you're feeling classic they also have hot fudge Sundaes as well. I've been going there as a 4th of July Tradition after fireworks since I was at least 4 years old and my family probably even longer. I hope this place remains successful to delight future generations in a tradition of old school and new school ice cream concoctions. As for our specific treats I loved how there was actual cubes of cheesecake in the mixture and real fruit too. And the dirt and worms, don't worry they didn't use real dirt or real worms in it, it was those gummy worms most are familiar with from the 1980s and 1990s inside oreo cookie dust. That said neither of us could finish ours so I froze them in our freezer and we enjoyed a second sitting of it. Excellent bang for the buck when one considers how many servings we had. Hopefully I'll get to return again this fourth of July if fireworks are back.
First of all it's expensive for what it is, YET it's so darn addicting that I go at least 3 times a week. It's cash only, but they have an atm. The boss lady there when I go is really friendly and gives generous portions. The twisters are iconic and very customisable. Just go to this classic torrance landmark.
Foster Freeze is an American classic. If you don't support this chain - you are not American. The service we got was exceptional and the Sunday was delicious as noted in the empty bowl. Cash only - Foster Freeze, step ypur game up and join the rest of the world and take electronic payments please. The place looks dated but the quality of the ice cream is exemplarary. I think some of their other best choices include the infamous banana split which my sister had no problem polishing off herself. My brother and mother both got chocolate dipped cones - the cones never stood a chance. Highly recommend!!!
It looks like a shabby shack, but getting a medium-size, chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream cone dipped in chocolate for pretty cheap at Foster's Old Fashion Freeze is just the thing to have as dessert after a salty, savory, umami-laden meal next door at Ichimi Ann Bamboo Garden.
I like it we use to go there after the movies and for 25 cents you got a super big ice cream cone. The thing felt like it weight 2 pounds. I t has been maybe 15 years, the last time I was there. Things has change now there like 3 dollars and the cones are tiny , that's the sign of the times I guess. Jerry Hickman
Also family runned and the ice cream is always prepared with perfection! You will love the various flavors offered!
It's Fosters what can you say.. It's soft serve with many ordering options.. Great place to go alone or with someone.. it gets busy
It's a great place for a late night ice cream snack. It's situated on a quiet street in downtown torrance. If you go during the day it's a nice place to get some ice cream and take a stroll around the neighborhood. The twisters are really good. Can't go wrong with an old fashioned cone. Lots of flavors and reasonably priced. There is seating outside the shop. CASH ONLY! So make sure you have cash.
The "classic" ice cream stand that piles on the toppings. It may not be hand made, or even made with love, but you'll get your sugar fix. The fudge dipped soft serve is loved by all, and the shakes will take you new places. Don't forget to bring your cash, because they don't take plastic!
This place has been around a long time. The menu offers up soft serve ice cream about a hundred plus different ways. Expect to wait in line for at least fifteen minutes. Only complaint: I wish they had Coke products instead of Pepsi.
This location is pretty hidden and smaller than most Fosters Freezes but it doesnt disappoint! Really amazing sundaes and milkshakes too. Only sucks is that they just have 1 table out front
Historic place, or so they are trying to register it as. Everybody in Torrance that I have met knows this place. Malted shakes are great, banana splits seem to me the best value (very generous) and very good.
Delicious ice cream from a historic location but no other foodstuffs like other Foster's Freezes around LA and this place only takes cash. They have an Atm right outside but in today's day and age that shouldn't be neccesary.
Worked here as a kid. Still the same great taste but different management. We always come here when we are in town. Today, we asked for a pup cup (which is just whipped cream in a small cup) just like they have at Dairy Queen, and the worker said "That will be 3.25". Dairy Queen hands these out for free and with all the dog traffic through here it seems strange. We thought it was too much to pay for 2 ounces of whipped cream. Will come back but will bring our own doggy dessert. Costs about $16 for two people, I ordered a small malt and a small twister which tasted great. Service with a smile next time would be nice too.
Not sure why any place would be cash only. This store has no drive through. Parking is limited as well.
This place has so many yummy ice cream and shake treats. You can get a shake or a malt or some type of Sunday. The staff is very nice, the prices are low,and the desserts are very yummy. I have come here many times, and rarely have to wait in a line. The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of parking in downtown Torrance. It is a nice quiet area.
Good ice cream but the cash only requirement is 17th century and very inconvenient (they have an atm there and won't take credit cards --- I don't like having change and cash back in my pockets). Gotta love the soft serve though!
My friend wanted ice cream for his snack later on and suggested Foster's. I didn't even know this product still existed. What a nice blast from the past. It transported me back to my childhood and going for a pineapple malt with my folks. It was a nice visit.
This is definitely a staple of the area only takes cash, but there is an ATM. The product is quality one of the better authentic ice cream shops, but parking is limited to street parking and pricing seems to be expensive on the more specialty items. Nevertheless, it’s definitely a go to.
Nice, old fashioned styled ice cream stand. Service is not the friendliest. Convenient for my family but if there was competition nearby, I'd try them.
Ice cream is always good on a hot day place looks a little ran down although they all look that way fosters freeze is an old place ice cream seems to be good everytime i went staff seems to never be happy they take your order and that's it and that is all the times i have gone the place always has business so it is either in a good spot or they are doing a good job
Had an ice cream sundae. The lady isn't good at customer service. She is as bland as a wall!! No concept of human interaction!! I enjoyed my sundae, otherwise I wouldn't go back again!
Maybe its old-school thinking like memories of how it was when I was a kid or believing in getting a good value for what I'm paying because there something quite missing at my first visit to Fosters Freeze in Torrance. I was surprised that FF was still around. I remember it from my childhood years when going to FF or DQ (Dairy Queen) and Baskin Robbins was an long awaited, exciting treat. Stepping out of the heat into a cool lobby peering thru the glass windows of the ice cream troughs choosing your ice cream flavors and then you point to the various toppings you want and it was an interactive experience to create your very own ice cream creation. At least its what I remember and kinda expected. The FF is in a beautiful setting of old-tiwn Torrance of small business shops & boutiques surrounded by leisurely walking streets in a neighhood of family homes like in those old Disney movies. And right there a Fosters Freeze. But like I said...something missing,.yeah good ice cream could be stepped up a notch, and its all service through an outside window and pretty it like... FF: Yes, what do you want or like or wish to order.. but I just the 'next' look Me: I'll take a ice cream sundae FF; What size Me: Oh I don't know (the entire window area was plastered with signs. depriving one of the view of at least seeing their treat created. Nope can't see nothing nor pick toppings Might as well be ordering off a soft serve truck FF: Ok here you go $5,50 Me; ( thinking $5.50 for a scoop of ice of ice cream that seemed to be a cheap knock off of a subdae. I mean its a very drab exoerience....if you gonna charge premium prices then provide the ambience, maybe ice cream parlor music, clear the windows cause I wanna see my text made, display toppings. I can tell when a product is made by someone who doesn't love to eat the product and probably didn't grow up and around the product culture. Otherwise its like buying ice cream from grocery store. So retail food service can be indifferent, robotic service but made to order food comes from a long legacy of street vendors, amusement & concession stands and cozy shops & parlors where you get a tasty good value product for a fair price and ...wait for it... And an enjoyable experience. Other than that its ice cream.
For ice cream FLAVORS they are limited. They carry sundaes, twister, (m&m, Reese's,Oreo, mint oreo, mud pie coffee flavor) , shakes, banana splits. They have the BASIC variety of toppings and syrups. Its expensive also ($6 Medium Twister) since prices have increased to keep up with costs of the establishment. Also ONLY CASH and NO BILLS OVER $20. OK if you're passing by or just to meet the place.
I had a small cappuccino freeze, it was just OK. My son ( a cookies and cream lover), had the oreo twister, he ate some and played with 85% of it. Said he didnt really like it. The place looks clean on the inside and has parking in the back which is nice. They do not accept card, cash only and have an ATM on site with a 2.99 fee. The people behind the counter seem as if they don't enjoy their job, and felt unwelcoming. She was exasperated to explain they didn't accept card. No formalities like hello or thank you. It wasn't the worse experience but I wont be visiting here ever again.
Well, disappointing someway. The portion size and price were decent. However, the "ice cream" itself was way too lean. I'm personally big fan of butter milk soft served (frozen custard) ice cream. I've no issues to accept milk based one, but now, that was more a water than milk, and far from cream, based "ice cream".
Cash only. Place looked filthy.
I have never been to fosters freeze, and as a first timer i expected to be helped and cared for. This ladies were some of the rudest and unprofessional individuals ever . I originally got the mudslide and didn't like it, so i brought it back. At first they wouldnt budge on switching out my order because they complained that I was wasting their product.I didnt stand for their attitude and i gave them a piece of my mind. They switched out my order and kept complaining, and then I just left.
We went to the foster freeze on Carson st in Carson for the first time since it closed at 10pm. We usually go to another one closer to home but it closes at 8pm.🤦♀️ first the ladies take our order and instead of paying attention to what we are saying they are speaking in their language back and forth laughing and talking, then they give us the totally wrong items and we said that we ordered something different, they had the nerve to get mad and tell us that we ordered that..then when they serve it to us it was with Bad attitude. Next the item I got was a soft serve with a brownie...or should I say yucky sticky gooey pieces of little block chocolate that they call brownies I guess..it was so bad I ate a little and had to throw it away...I guess they call it chocolate brownie sundae...taste more like...a no way jose... really nasty. So the customer service sucked and the dessert really sucked...a double downer..I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL...DON'T WASTE YOU TIME...
I went there yesterday and ordered a pb and j twister. Right when I took a bite. All i tasted was something awful. They either spilled something into my drink, used something dirty, or used rotten fruits. It was definitely off and tasted so gross. I tried to exchange it but all they did was deny any wrong doing. I threw it away right infront of them to show how bad it was. I have never tasted anything that fermented in my life.
The people here practice discrimination based on the way you look. I’m a professional musician and tattoo artist from the South Bay Area of Los Angeles. I’m heavily tattooed and have long hair. When I showed up with my dog to order She had refused to serve me unless I paid first. The 3 people in front of had their order made first and they paid once their order was made. She made a point to tell me that she did not trust me and that she wouldn’t make anything until I paid first ,everybody in line laughed at me . Once I paid she made my ice cream and it didn’t even look the same as the people before me , it had minimal toppings and looked purposefully sloppy and she refused to give me more than one tiny napkin even though she made a mess of the 2 ice creams I had ordered. I didn’t appreciate this at all and it’s not fair I was treated different than everyone because I was the only one that had tattoos.😞
We were looking forward to trying their ice cream They didn't pay any attention to our orders and THEY DON'T ACCEPT CARD...ONLY CASH! lost a business with us!
Went today for some icecream Well the owner was rude she did not acknowledge me just looked at me dead in my eyes while she was eating. Didnt smile or say give me a second. She didnt even put a will be back sign because thats the least she could of did. Its too cold to just be waiting outside with kids. I will never come back.
It's 2025, there shouldn't be cash only establishments.
Made a drive just to find out its only cash and there ATM stated “error.” The owner/worker didnt care. All good went down to Brusters and didnt disappoint.
I have been coming here my entire life I'm 46 my great grandma would come here once a week their website states they close at 10pm we got here at 9:30pm and were told they close at 9:30pm they graciously served us plain vanilla cones saying the chocolate was off and no shakes ok. People came behind us she turned them away but a group of people who looked more like her.... she pulled out all the stuff she wouldn't serve us. Kinda rude possibly racist move on her part. Guess next time we'll take our money and business elsewhere. Never been more disappointed in my neighborhood business....
The quality of this particular location does not seem to meet the franchise standards. I remember FF soft serve is creamier. I ordered a triple berry cheese cake twister- the cheesecake pieces were rubbery with no flavor. Also my partner ordered peanut butter banana twister. It wasn’t a twister.. it was a banana milk shake with hints of peanut butter flavor here and there. Disappointed!
