The sushi is great! And the service is very friendly. I ordered pick up through Uber eats and they had my food ready before the estimated time. I highly recommend the veggie miso soup and the Salmon Nigiri.

Came here for dinner with a large group. We ordered many item on the menu and shared. Sushi and sashimi were very fresh. The appetizers and desserts are all very delicious. The Sake selection was great as well.

Server and staff were super nice and attentive. The food, as usual, was excellent. Sushi is fresh and authentic. The rice was well prepared and the fish and sauces tasty. My only slight complaint was that the nori was a tad on the stale side, but not in a way that detracted from the stellar flavor. The miso soup, tempura, salmon skin roll, and seaweed salad were among the best we’ve had in this area! Kaz and Sushi Taro (at lunch) remain my go-tos for a la carte sushi in DC. 👍👍

Absolutely delicious Japanese food. The Sushi was perfect and properly sized! One bite sized morsels of taste fusion that made me sad I was not a local. Went twice in one trip to be adventurous and try new flavors and tastes trusting they would get it right. They definitely pleased and will be putting this on must eat list for future trips.

Our server was unfailingly polite and quick to anticipate or needs, without ever being intrusive. The sushi was fantastic, best scallops we've ever eaten. Would come back for them alone, but everything was delicious. Bathroom was clean. Great experience overall.

We went here for lunch on Friday. The restaurant wasn’t very busy so we were seated quickly. The food was delicious and fresh. Everything was freshly made and amazing. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back.

Perfect money for value ratio if you're looking for properly good sushi. Lovely staff, amazing nigiri, great sake selection. The tasting selections are perfectly balanced. We have not once been disappointed.

Always a great meal at KSB. Colleagues at the Embassy of Japan suggested KSB years ago and I’ve never been disappointed in many visits over the years. Highly recommend.

The food was spectacular. The service was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant. The ingredients were all fresh and delectable. My daughter had the lobster and grilled avocado and can’t stop talking about weeks later. Her sushi and roll selections delighted her. She exclaimed how fresh every bite of seafood was. As a vegan, I had the warm cauliflower and kale salad and I seriously contemplated getting a second serving! It was so flavorful and just a perfect way to start my meal. The crispy Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes are a must have! I ordered inside out avocado and oshinko rolls and they were both delicious. The avocado was perfection! We will definitely add Kaz Sushi Bistro to our regular rotation every time we are in DC.

Amazing food, their Omakase is amazing and the truffle caramel was insane

Really nice vegetarian bento with a solid variety of things and generous portions! The miso soup, brussies, hijiki salad and seaweed slaw were especially lovely and the seasoning on the rice (ume something I think?) was a great touch. I ate it across the street in that sweet little public park. A+ dinner, especially for pandemic times.

I live in iowa, and the sushi there is not the best.. but I almost cried eating this. It is so delicious and honestly worth the price. It’s not often that an Iowan eats good sushi. The workers and very nice as well, this restaurant had a very cozy feel to it.

I believe that KAZ Sushi is the best sushi anywhere in the White House area of Washington DC.

R

While in DC, my husband and I decided to make reservations at KAZ and try their omakase dinner. You have the option to have their pre-selected menus for a set price at the table, or partake in their a la carte omakase experience at the sushi bar. We opted for the sushi bar, and it was incredible. One sushi chef was dedicated to just us, fixing plate after plate of beautiful and fresh sashimi, nigiri, and assorted small dishes. For each round, he recommended how to eat each item (no soy, with hands, etc etc). He was very nice, and the entire experience was phenomenal. He requested that we let him know when we are content, but still have room for dessert. He finished out our meal with a lovely green tea cheese cake, and raspberry Jello cake filled with chocolate. Everything tasted delicious, and was beautifully plated. The price is higher than some other sushi restaurants, but the quality is also far better. The portions were generous, with large pieces of fish, and the rice was perfectly soft. If we go back to DC, we will definitely be coming here again.

The sushi here was amazing. The salmon belly melts in your mouth. The seaweed salad I would skip, but the spicy scallop roll was amazing. Highly recommend this place. Plus they made my daughter feel really special gifting her some chop stick connectors & chop sticks to go home after they saw her enjoying her roll & trying to use the chop sticks!

Wide selection of creative and succulent dishes. Fantastic selection of fish, super fresh and really high quality. One of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to worldwide! The seared salmon belly is amazing!

This may be some of the best sushi I think I have ever had! It is SO fresh and delicious! The quality of fish used is unreal! I tried the 009 tasting and it was amazing! The flavors created with the simple ingredients used were truly something special! I got a miso soup as well and it was very tasty! Service was great! Like some reviews say it does take a little while for the dishes to come out but you are getting crafted dishes so it’s expected that they take a little longer to prepare. Overall this place surprised me in the best way! I can’t wait to go back

G

I love dining here. I always go for lunch. Unfortunately, I’m not in the area to try their dinner menu. However, if it's anything like their lunch, I highly recommend it. Some of the dishes I can attest to are any of the Bento Boxes; they all are my favorites. The Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and the Salmon Tempura Roll are good to eat…yummy! The Rolls will have you coming back for more. I’ve not been able to try everyone on the menu yet, but I’ve made quite a dent in it. I'll keep you abreast of when I get through all of them:)-

Fantastic, high quality sushi. Tuna with fois gras is innovative, delicious. Service is simple, cordial, and efficient. Small, elegant, pleasant locale. As good as sushi gets!

Kaz is our absolute go-to for fresh fish. Whether is a classic sushi presentation or something creative, it's always delicious. There are some places that try to get too fancy and the flavor is lost. Not here. Always divine. Especially those Spicy Broiled NZ Green Mussels -- I could eat them every day.

Very authentic sushi. Best sushi in DC. I got seated right at 5:30. The ambiance is amazing. It feels like I am eating in someone's house if that makes sense. The spotify playlist they have is calming. I think this place is a hidden gem. I had crunchy shrimp roll because of TikTok and it did not disappoint. And some temaki rolls. I had a wonderful waiter as well.

A top contender for best sushi in DC, KAZ Sushi Bistro emphasizes traditional, superlative quality, meticulously prepared fare with staff and team that are attentive and provide excellent service. Have never had a bad experience, meal, dish or single piece of fish there— everything is consistent, well executed, and menu is extensive, containing a range from light to indulgent.

Awesome omakase experience with my buddy. We didn’t reserve it and they were still willing to accommodate. We sat at the bar and the sushi chefs were extremely warm. We had a few conversations with them and they made suggestions about which Sake we should have even bringing us samples to make sure it fit our pallets. The appetizer, sushi, and desert were great. We also were given tips on how to eat the sushi. Would definitely make this a regular spot if I lived in DC.

We went to Kaz on a Saturday night and it was perfect. We tried the Sampler 011 and everything was delicious. The hanger steak and baby octopus appetizers were great as well. Also, do not sleep on the specials either.

We never heard of the place and decided to try somewhere new and decided to go with the Omakase. I love Tuna and the first appetizer had tuna so we were off to a good start. The Nigiri chef and Head chef and staff were simply amazing, knowledgeable and happy to share an explain about the dishes and how their made and their flavors. One quick note, my wife has only had duck once in her life and she hated it, but this place made her love Duck. I had soft shell crab at another location and told myself I would never eat it again and this place made me love it again. We ended with a mango pannacotta. Highly recommend

Food was really good! We ordered sake, Lychee Sake-tini, red wine, edamame, tempura, and sushi.

wonderful lunch spot! A hidden gem conveniently located in the heart of the city, close to the metro and surrounded by offices. The restaurant manager and staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommended! love the Matcha ice cream with tequila

C

The fish is so fresh! It is expensive but well worth it in my opinion. The taste of the sushi is definitely more on the authentic side than it is fusion. If you are huge on fusion style of flavor explosion, this may not be the place for you. This place exceeds more in simplicity and authenticity. Good sushi should not need a lot of flavor embellishments in order to taste good which Kaz Sushi Bistro exemplifies. Do not expect to feel "full" unless you plan to spend a lot of money; this is a great place for providing very good food to the "satiated" level which is just perfect. As for service, just expect it to be slower on the weekend. Unfortunately, I was just in a hurry to pay my bill. I will definitely come back on a more calm day. Go to Kaz Sushi Bistro with patience and enjoy every morsel. :)

I had a great lunch at Kaz Sushi Bistro with a few colleagues recently. The food was excellent, and the experience overall felt relaxed and thoughtful. Our server really stood out. She was super attentive, friendly, and very accommodating with a few menu adjustments we needed. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento, which usually comes with seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, miso soup, rice, and a green salad. I asked to swap the seaweed salad for a regular green salad and opted to skip the miso soup. When I found out the agedashi tofu was prepared with fish sauce, our server didn’t hesitate to offer a substitute and brought out vegetable tempura instead, which turned out to be a great choice. The chicken teriyaki was tender and flavorful, and the salad was crisp and fresh with a nice dressing. The tempura had a light crunch and wasn’t greasy, which I really appreciated. The meal was filling but not heavy, and the green tea we had on the side tied everything together nicely. Kaz feels like one of those spots where attention to detail really shows, both in the food and the service. I'd definitely go back.

I really enjoyed my meal here. I had so much sushi at the counter and it was so fresh. The staff was quick, friendly, and pretty funny. The gentlemen behind the counter answered questions about the pieces of sushi that were new to me, such as the salmon eggs. I am giving the food a 4/5 because unfortunately I did not feel well later that night after eating there, but it’s possible that the heat played a roll or I tried new fish in the chef’s selection that didn’t agree with my stomach. I guess just be cautious of trying new rolls.

For those who are truly passionate about sushi, I highly recommend this place. The menu offers both Traditional Sushi, featuring authentic Japanese-style sushi, and Chef’s Special Original Sushi, which adds unique flavors—both were excellent. Besides sushi, there are plenty of light dishes to enjoy. The seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, and octopus were especially delicious. The atmosphere is not overly luxurious but has a slightly relaxed feel, making it more comfortable. Thanks to that, the prices are also very reasonable.

We heard about this place on TikTok and decided on a whim to go while in the city for a concert. 🕺🪩 It's in a good location in northwest near GW. The food did not disappoint, with the hijiki jicama salad and the brussel sprouts both being outstanding. 🤯 All the sushi was very high quality, and we were very impressed especially with the tomato nigiri. 🍅🍣 Give the crispy shrimp roll a try as well! 🍤🤤 Also, don't miss the desserts - the ice creams are delicious. 🍨Very friendly efficient service! 😊

Kaz was my summer resturant week pick this year. It came highly recommended and so I decided to check it out with two friends. They offered a good preset options that allowed us to try a few of their appetizers including scallop ceviche, grilled avocado, and grilled chicken wings. We also added an app of baby octopus which was really good. Both their nigiri and maki were high quality. The rice was well prepared and the fish was fresh. There toro and tamago were my favorite. Left feeling full and happy. A great resturant week pick that I would return to for the full menu.

I’m no sushi connoisseur so take this how you want. I ordered the Japanese Wagyu nigiri, a California roll, and a crunchy shrimp roll. All three were fantastic! Staff was very nice and it was fun watching the guys in the back make the rolls. No complaints here! Would definitely eat here again

The hanger steak appetizer was delicious. Was my first time trying actual caviar (not the biggest fan but that’s just personal preference). Also tried the sea urchin out of curiosity, wasn’t anything special. My favorite was the spicy California. Recommend giving this spot a shot, they have unique options and service was good.

Came here for the Valentines day set menu for a delicious food adventure of Japanese and fusion fare. Would definitely recommend. Our waiter brought us three different sakes to try before we decided on the one we liked best. It was really fun to play the game of guessing which sake was which. The chef at one point came out and torched our wagyu beef personally before we dug in. We had a really lovely evening.

Lan Nguyen

Tried the sushi Omakse which cost $80. Comes with two starters and 15 pieces of sushi and dessert. Unlike other Omakase places which brings you a piece of sushi one at a time. This place brought out two starters, then a plate of 8 piece sushi, then another plate of 7 piece sushi. Everything was good and it will definitely fill you up. One of the starters they brought out I just didn’t like it. The waitress saw that i didnt like it and swapped it out with a different plate for me. This was very kind of them. Recommended

Loved the salmon here but the tables are so close. It gets very noisy and crowded fast for a date night. I felt rushed to leave, ordered a decent amount of food and drinks too.

Food and service are really god BUT the carpets should be changed, there's a smell and they make the place aesthetically not pleasing

E

Popped into this sushi restaurant last week. Got the temaki rolls which were okay but needed more flavor. I wouldn’t pay 20 dollars for them again, seems a bit steep for what we got.

E
Etienne Blouin

Good sushi restaurant! The waitress gave us superb service and her best suggestions. Nevertheless some sushis were so basic that I can’t give a 5-star rating. Among our favourite were the Hawaiian wulu and the seabass Fish braised. Tempura plate was also great. Thank you.

J

Great quality, recommend the KAZ Tasting 0011 & just keep the experience going until you're done. Service is pretty slow, at least when we were there but we got what we came for in the end.

J

The place had excellent sushi. Very authentic and disciplined to Japanese standards. While we understand how tough it is with labor, our wait staff member was a still a little green and could have been a little more attentive. She was very nice and cordial but it took her about 12 minutes to greet us and ask us for drinks or waters. I think she missed a few things on the order too. The sushi was amazing however. The kanpachi was insane. The seared scallop melted in our mouths. The salmon with the lemon zest was incredible. I could have ordered another two rounds of their sushi at the sitting!

B
Bibiana Oe

The restaurant was super accommodating in moving reservations when I called that same day. Ordered the special clam miso soup, seaweed salad (could be shared between 2 people), sashimi moriawase, and a spicy tuna roll. The host was aware it was my brother’s birthday and even sent over a beautiful, complimentary green tiramisu sponge! A delicious, super satisfying meal with a beautiful ambiance that would be great for dining in! All waiters were in masks and tables were distanced enough from each other. Highly recommend!

G

chef Kaz is one of the top sushi chefs in town. I have had a lunch and dinner there many times it came to my mind today when I got a bento box to go for lunch of salmon and chicken. It was exquisitely prepared and it was the most beautiful bento box I've ever had a lot of sides even the miso soup was terrific -highly recommended. This is a five star Chef and beats hands-down lot of the fancy sushi chefs in town.

S

I can truthfully say that I only went here because TikTok sent me, and I thought I would grab a couple of rolls to go. I apparently HAD to try the crunchy shrimp roll and also got the yellowtail. Okay, both were fine but nothing over the top as the videos made it seem. I do want to visit again and try the other far more interesting things on the menu!

Another great dinner at Kaz. I can't believe they have been cranking out some of the best sushi in DC for 20 years. Seared salmon belly is amazing.

N
Nathan Thompson

High quality but affordable Japanese restaurant. The sushi, nigiri, and sashimi lived up to expectations based upon reviews. I had the 009 combo plate. It's enough for 2 if eating lite or more than enough for 1 person. Fresh fish with excellent taste and textures. Seating was fast on a Monday night. Service was attentive. Menu selections were all one could expect and the beer and sake selection was well above average. Nice ambience and central location for locals and tourists.

I got the Kaz Traditional Sushi Tasting 007 and the Toro Roll w/ Scallion. While the sushi is tasty, and the fish is relatively fresh, the quality of the fish is not the highest. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would recommend visiting Kaz Sushi Bistro.

My chicken bento box was really good. The sushi rolls was more like 4/5 stars for me (it could be just that little bit fresher IMO even though there’s nothing wrong with the quality). The service was excellent. If it was just $5 - 7 less per pax for the meal, the value would have been excellent. I am rating it 5 stars even though 4.5 stars is what I would have rated. Updated (2025 Dec): From 5 to 4 stars overall. Came here again and was a little disappointed with the food. Service was still top notch but the quality wasn’t the same as my first visit. Overall have lowered my rating to 4 starts over 2 visits.

Sushi was fresh and delicious. I’m normally a nigiri without special sauce kind of guy but I must admit the sauces were tasty, creative and refreshing. Their cocktails were so good that most of our party who initially didn’t want any ordered similar drinks. Staff was friendly and accommodating for both our large party size and our boisterous children. Why one less star? We ordered multiple bento boxes with unagi and it tasted off (I hope undercooked). In the same bentos they had several creative and delicious items but the main star , eel, was not edible for us. Good luck to you Kaz sushi, thank you for an enjoyable night!

Small portions. This small amount of sushi was $50. However the flavor for everything I ordered was a 10/10. I ordered a spicy scallop roll, crunchy shrimp roll, lobster nigiri & seared salmon belly nigiri. The flavors were excellent .portions just small.

Lovely spot with fresh sushi. I would recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts, edamame was listed as “spicy” but seasoning didn’t taste like anything. Sushi was great, ambiance is lovely. I would try again!

Now don’t get me wrong this is one of the best places I’ve seen in DC to eat sushi! It’s very good and the atmosphere is great. Staff is really helpful when choosing however my order took a very long time to arrive. This might just be a personal experience so I’m not saying it’s the case for everyone. However of it is it’d be awesome as the final step to perfection to be slightly quicker and more fast paced when taking orders. Otherwise this place is really just great

A wonderful sushi restaurant that is on the higher-end and more upscale than it needs to be. The staff are really nice and the restaurant provides cozy and warm vibes, but the food was on the pricier end. We had their specialty nigiri but found them to not be all too special; however, the winning dish of the night went to their salmon roll with pickled pineapple and basil. Somehow, that flavor palette blew my mind, and I still can't stop thinking about how delicious it was.

I had this sushi as a precursor warm up to an omakase experience later that week. Great idea! I ordered a sashimi plate, red snapper head, and a tuna belly maki roll. Soft, melt in your mouth sushi, nice seaweed on the roll, and the snapper head was very good - shockingly meaty. The service was on point and quick. A little busy when I went and almost overcrowded in a way. Food is worth the trip.

I mean, I asked for recommendation, they recommended crunchy shrimp and I picked a few of my favorites as well which is why I think they deserve all 5 stars. I make sushi’s of my own and kinda experienced in that and I loved those, (oh yea, there goes the but) BUT I wouldn’t recommend this place honestly. Sorry to the owner and the incredible chef, the environment is not very suiting in my opinion for the price. I was hoping for a cozier atmosphere. I went there with a date and it was very crowded and we weren’t comfortable which is the only reason I’m giving them 4. Best of luck.👍🏻

A solid restaurant for a delicious omakase! The location of Kaz is very conveniently located and great quality for DC. I love the cute, compressed paper towel tablets, where the waitstaff will pour some water over to “inflate” so that guests can wipe their hands before their meal. For reference, having moist paper towels is a standard in Japan, so this makes it feel quite authentic. I went for restaurant week, and the sushi arrangement was awesome and delicious. The fish was fresh, and the side dishes were too. The only qualm I have is with those strange rectangular nigiri options (see photo) with vegetables and other uncommon ingredients. Although they look very cute, they would fall apart when you try to pick it up and I wasn’t very impressed with the flavor combination.

For the amount that the price cost the rolls were super small. Like super small. We ordered three rolls like we always do between the wife and I and we had to order another roll to actually get filled. The price for the whole meal was super expensive I mean we had drinks but the meal part was very small. Wasn't really impressed with the flavor profile either. U would suggest to keep on looking somewhere else. Q

Service was nice, food was mediocre. I did omakase ($100 pp) which in the end did not feel like it deserved my money. Not because it wasn’t a good amount of food - it was. Just because the food was mediocre. I wouldn’t return.

The sushi is decent and the service is quick, but this place is on the pricier side for the quality and service. We came here because the restaurant was rated as one of the best sushi places in the city and while we were satisfied with the meal, it did leave me wondering if this really is one of the best sushi restaurants that DC has to offer (I doubt it). Come here if you don't mind paying a premium for decent sushi.

After having a legit sushi experience in NYC, nothing compares. This was just OKAY. The rice fell apart and was bland, the nigiri didn't have much flavor, the octopus was rubbery. The sake was good tho! And service was pretty good, nothing to write home about. Prob won't come back and will save our money for legit sushi. It tasted not very different than what you order for $10 on takeout.

The atmosphere might be upscale. The sushi, unfortunately, doesn't feel fresh, which can be a major letdown for sushi enthusiasts. Additionally, the chicken dish was reportedly dry, adding to the disappointment of the meal. Overall, if you're looking for exceptional sushi and chicken dishes, this restaurant might not be the best option.

Grilled baby octopus was very good and from there it was downhill. Crispy Salmon roll had large chunks of a hard very hard /orange reddish veggie that overwhelmed both the texture and taste of the salmon in the roll. The only flavor to the grilled scallop nigiri was the sea salt. Good service. Interior atmosphere bland and uninteresting. First sushi restaurant we tried in a visit to DC. Underwhelmed. (And pricey!)

This was my favorite sushi spot before the pandemic - I used to go here 2-3x a week. Idk if they lost their good chefs or something but the quality has been absolutely terrible the last handful of times I went. I should’ve taken a Before and After picture of the “stuffed avocado” - a year ago it looked like the menu, the one I got last night had literally ONE (1) single piece of chewy crab meat + like a quarter cup of sauce. The pork wraps had about 1/3 of the filling they normally do. Please bring back your old chef :(

Hands down the worst dining experience I've had in DC. Our waiter was rude and impatient. The air in this place smelled stuffy and like mildew. The sushi was mediocre. I went because I saw the place had good reviews - no idea how or why! Don't go there!

I come from the most over-priced city in the world and this place amazed me. I can’t believe this place’s price and the size of the dish. We spent $60 and we were starving afterward.

Kaz sushi was too much overpriced for the lower quality of sashimi or sushi. ¥100, 1,000 WON Cheap Kaiten sushi in Korea or Japan must be better than this. Iwent there since they had the "restaurant weak" event, i won't go there again. Waitresses looked tired and other staffs were lazy.

Really disappointed with the food they served —- the roll came half opened and the tempura dish was the worse I’ve ever had. You could go to a much cheaper place and get better tempura…. See pics

Wait a second, $5.5 for the green tea. Trust me this isn't some premium green tea they claimed, it's just any other green tea. Then the pork belly appetizer...hmm...I have to wonder have they tried pork belly before! And that whole dish just didn't go together. The appearance is probably the worst, it looks like left over food. Finally the sushi, it's mediocre at best. Also, we had to wait so long for the food to come out. If you want good sushi go to Raku in Bethesda, MD or Tachibana in Mclean, VA.
