I am new to TexMex and Jorge’s has definitely made me a real fan. The food here is incredible. My favorites are the chicken a la brasa and the brussels sprouts. I love that they offer chicharrones instead of tortilla chips. Their corn tortillas are perfection. I ordered take out tonight and I have my first form of criticism- the picadillo tacos were so salty :’( and the tortillas were so greasy. I will always come back but maybe I will stick to my favorites. The service is always great as well. I only took off one star for the atmosphere bc it gets pretty loud in there, unless you’re seated near the restrooms.
Danny was the best waiter I've had in a long time, the food was delicious, and I loved the privacy of the high-back booths!
I wish that I had gotten a picture of my meal. The drinks, staff, music, and vibes of this place are fantastic! The food was so delicious 😋 Some of the best Mexican food that I've had in Texas. 10 out of 10, highly recommend 👌
My mom is still talking about how good the food was the next day, but better than that was the service. Kat was outstanding! We'll definitely be requesting her section in the future!
We tried Jorge's lunch menu today for the first time, and it was great! The food was delicious and at a price that can't be beaten. The service was great - our waiter was very entertaining and everything came out quickly!
This place is always good! Servers are awesome, informative, helpful and will not over "but" you while you eat! Drinks are strong, food is always delicious! It can get a bit noisy when the place fills up.
I was so excited to try this place as I love George’s. It did not disappoint! I love the atmosphere in here and all of the food and drinks were delicious. Our service was a little slow the night we went, but we weren’t in any hurry so it was OK. Overall, I would absolutely come back here!
My favorite place! I went here 3 times during my birthday week to celebrate. The food is great, atmosphere is amazing and the servers are attentive. The home made chicharrones are fabulous! We love Kyle and all his staff! We go to Jorge’s every chance we get!
Serenity, our server was amazing right from the beginning! It was our first time so she helped us get acclimated to the menu and made sure we understood what we were ordering!!! The vibe was awesome and the food didn’t disappoint! Although we were happy with the food, it was the service that will absolutely have us coming back!!! Thank you all for the hospitality!
This was hands down one of the best establishments i’ve been to in a very long time. They staff and people were just amazing. Especially Danny, he’s a very funny and chill guy. And he’s a comedian, check him out! Also definitely recommend for Jorge’s to put a Mic stand in the middle somewhere. For people like Danny, i think it’ll bring a whole new experience to the place.
We were disappointed that another establishment was packed. It ended up for the better. The shrimp brochetta was way better than auntie Juanita's, and much larger. The Queso was fantastic, the flautas were tasty, and the refried beans are unique and savory. The is worth the trip from Corsicana. Try it
We have found our new outlet for slightly upscale Mexican-ish food. We have eaten four dishes and enjoyed each one of them. The offerings are inventive and can be considered only Latin inspired, but they are accompanied by some clever side dishes. Our only complaint is that the music tends to be too loud, and my wife tend to sing along.
Listen up Waco, if you come to Jorge‘s restaurant, it would be in your best interest to ask for Carter to be your server. She is hands-down the best Server I have ever had anywhere. Very attentive and quick to get your orders through. Oh yes, the food was excellent too. Lol
Best Hidden Gem in Waco! I picked this new restaurant for my birthday lunch. The place was incredible! The restaurant is huge, beautiful and relaxing with an atmospheric modern Mexican vibe. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The house margaritas were delicious. The chips were thin and crispy, and the salsa was great. As a starter we got Jorge’s Ranch Dip. Oh heck yes! I ordered the Cheese y Chili con Carne enchiladas. Though the chili was not true Texas chili, it was still flavorful. I will definitely be returning and recommending this place to others.
The service was wonderful, food was outstanding and atmosphere was clean and fun. I ordered the creamy poblano chicken and I 100% recommend! It was phenomenal! Also, the Mexican street corn is a must for a side. Our waitress, Brittney, did a great job! We will be back!
He had the hatch green chili enchiladas, and I had the lime snapper with street corn and brussels sprouts as sides. Both dishes were a visual feast as well as some of the best restaurant Mexican food we have had. We went at lunchtime and got a waiter who was absolutely on top of all his tables. The staff is friendly, has no problems stepping in to help each other, and made us feel like welcome houseguests ! we will be back! Second visit: just as great as the first! I had the Agave Mahi Mahi and it was terrific. This must be a great place to work because the staff is all so friendly and happy to see us. Their cheerful attitude makes dining out a pleasure. keep up the good work; I think I just found another great Mexican restaurant!
The food and drinks were incredible. We had Danny as a server and he was very attentive and so fun! We will definitely be back.
My first visit to Jorge’s was amazing. I had the crab dip appetizer with the chiccarones and we ate it so fast we didn’t even get a picture. My only advice here is to also get it with chips since the chiccarones are filling. Amazing selection of additive free tequilas, which I really appreciate. Then I had the brisket mole enchiladas and they are packed with brisket. Frozen Big O margaritas are solid and the draft margaritas are good too. I was a bit surprised the draft ones came in a small glass but they are STRONG so you are getting your monies worth on those!
We had such a good dinner! The shrimp tacos were amazing! Our host Carter was Great!!!
Mucho Delicioso, Had dinner here with co-workers. Atmosphere was nice. Please was well laid out. Server was quick and friendly. Food came out quick, Fresh and Hot. Pricing was fair and a decent amount of food for the price. Fresh homage tortillas were off the charts.
My wife and I had a great experience at Jorge’s recently. Both Danny and Cory who work there in the bar area were amazing, making sure we had everything needed and very friendly!! The food was also great - thanks! We look forward to our next visit.
So happy y’all added real refried beans - aka pinto beans- they are the best I’ve had & loved the rotisserie chicken flautas! Chefs kiss!!!
Word cannot describe how incredibly positive our experience was. We came for my son's birthday with some friends, and Danny, our waiter, made us feel like we were the most important people on earth. He was hilarious, kind, had an incredible memory, and he made my son feel so special. If you come to Jorge's (which you should, because the food is awesome!), you NEED to make sure to sit at Danny's table. When I have traveled in Europe, I have met servers who are so proud of their profession. It is rare in America to find a waiter or waitress who is proud to do what they do and who finds joy in it. No one takes more pride in their work as a waiter, than Danny and no one cares more about his guests. Danny, thanks for making my child's night the best one of his life. You are truly the best waiter in Waco. I hope to be able to come back and sit at one of your tables again!
Honorario is amazing! He took such great care of us and anticipated all our needs before we ever had to ask for more chips, water, etc. We love Jorge’s but Honorario made our recent experience even better!
New place, been waiting for this one. Came in unexpectedly without a reservation so sat at the bar. This one is apparently in the same family and the George's chain. Late on the review so forgive me, can't remember her name but the service was great even being sooo busy and crowded!!! Chicherones and dips were good plus great dinks!!!
Serennity is AMAZING! I came in with my 4 and 2 year old, she was so kind to my kids and so helpful! We ordered right away and she had our food out fast. She was so nice to us and didn’t make me feel like a burden for being out with my kids. She was also so nice to me! I felt like we were friends! 10/10
2025 Update: This place is great! The chips must be home made, they are so good. The salsa is super yummy and the guacamole. Tasty fajitas and fish tacos. CT, our server, gave us A+ service. We’ll be back soon! ******** Everything was awesome. The steak fajitas melted in my mouth. I wondered why this place had so many negative reviews. So I perused them all just now. The overwhelming majority of negative reviews are about the fact that you need a reservation. I went with a friend and he had made the reservation. Yeah, I guess people are not used to having to make a reservation for a Mexican place in Waco. So I can understand the frustration there. But the food is really awesome. The service was awesome. The atmosphere is awesome. I’ll definitely be back.
Not one complaint at all. Everything was perfect. Well done managers. The staff were attentive and helpful. Jasmine keeps our drinks, chips, and salsa full. Friendly and a happy person. We had the seafood enchiladas. Delicious. Clean, festive restaurant 🤤😀❤️ the hamburger has a lot going on several things piled on. Bacon, cheese, guacamole, thick patty 😋
Food is amazing, restaurant is clean, margaritas galore, service is fast and Gigi was the bestest best! Loved it, proper Tex-Mex in every regard!
Review for Jorge’s Cantina - Waco, Texas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had the pleasure of dining at Jorge’s Cantina for lunch, and I can confidently say it’s the best Mexican restaurant in Waco—bar none! I ordered the lunch enchiladas featuring rotisserie chicken, served with two enchiladas topped with chimichurri, alongside roasted corn, basmati rice, and barracho beans. The food was absolutely amazing and incredibly fresh. My waiter, Owen, was kind and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. The restaurant was clean, and the ambiance was inviting, featuring large, high-backed leather bench seats and tasteful decor that made for a lovely dining atmosphere. To top off the meal, I indulged in a dessert called “Quatro Leches,” a delightful twist on the traditional tres leches cake, and it was nothing short of amazing. I left feeling completely satisfied and will definitely be returning. If you’re in Waco, don’t miss out on Jorge’s Cantina! Highly recommended!
Josh was an excellent server, and the queso was deliciously tasty. We had about a 30-minute wait with a reservation. The crowd was respectful and understood. We sat in the tequila lounge. Two of our friends were also checking out the restaurant, and I noticed that having larger parties increases the fun factor during busy hours. The drinks were strong and the food was good.
We had a great first experience! The food was amazing! Came with 2 different kinds of complimentary salsas with chips. I got the rotisserie chicken enchiladas and it was more than I expected. Our server and bar tender Jazmine was amazing I loved her hospitality. Will definitely be coming back here!
I was pleasantly surprised by Jorge's. Affiliated with George's, it invites stereotyping, but when the walk on song was 'Suavemente,' I knew I was in for a treat. The Mango Loco salad was flavorful and crisp. The shrimp was a good combination. Salsas were delicious and the cuatro leches was great, with allusions to arroz con leche in texture and flavor.
Jorge’s Cantina is a true gem in the dining scene! Despite being newly opened, the service was nothing short of exceptional. Every dish we tried was an absolute delight, showcasing perfection in every bite. The restaurant's cleanliness was impeccable, and the beautiful decor created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Jorge’s Cantina offers a refreshing change from the usual enchiladas and tacos smothered in queso and chili con carne, presenting a more sophisticated and flavorful take on Mexican cuisine. This place is a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary dining experience!
Delicious food! Great service! Beautiful restaurant! We started out with the Tres amigos dip board. We had guacamole, queso Blanco and the avocado dip or Jorge‘s dip. All three were delicious. Best chicken fajitas we’ve ever tasted. The cheese enchiladas were delicious. The Smashburger was out of this world. The Barbacoa brisket tacos were very good. Jorge‘s nachos were delicious for the sides the rice, the Mexican Street corn tortillas and refried beans were excellent. And then we ended the meal with sopapillas and churros Yum!!! What a great dining experience. We will be back next time we are in Waco.
I can't tell you enough how DELICIOUS the food, especially the corn tortillas, are! The staff is super accommodating and the atmosphere is perfection on the patio with comfy chairs and natural lighting. If give it 100 starts if I could!
Went for lunch and was able to get seated the day before Thanksgiving, but any dinner meal I would call ahead for a reservation (should be able to get same day ressys). Our waitress said it was only her second day on the job, but she did a great job, no mess ups. Although the glasses are cute, I do wish they were a little bigger. She was constantly having to refill our water and sometimes we had to wait a little longer than anticipated for a refill - would make it better for both parties if they were larger. The lunch menu is great. Has 70% of what the dinner menu has at less cost. I myself ordered the lunch chicken enchiladas, and they were okay, but nothing great. Actually felt a little cold and the grilled veggies just didn’t hit home like how they should with enchiladas. Flip that and my sister got the Tacos Al Carbon Beef, and they looked INCREDIBLE, truly couldn’t tell the difference between those and the fajitas, and they were even cheaper! For sides, the side salad is HUGE (almost an entire meal in and of itself), and the Mexican street corn was some of the best I’ve ever had, oh so creamy. The al pastor brussel sprouts were very delicious too, would recommend those. Chimichurri rice was heavilyyyy lime flavored, so be forewarned going into that.
This isn't your typical mexican restaurant. The food has been thoughtfully upgraded. The red salsa is amazing and don't get me started on the queso 😛. I had bacon wrapped shrimp. No tiny little pre frozen shrimp here. Large fresh shrimp wrapped in the perfect amount of bacon.... and to my suprise- char-grilled. Wonderful smoky flavor and succulent. We loved it so much we didnt even wait a week yo go back! Travel time for us is about an hour and 10 min one way.... and worth every mile😁. Fyi- THEY TAKE RESERVATIONS!
We hosted an after wedding luncheon on the patio for 40 people. The food was incredible, and the service was even more outstanding. Everyone raved about the experience. We had arranged to be served chicken and beef fajitas, With black beans and Chimichurri rice as soon as we arrived, because people needed to catch flights out of the city. Jorge’s did everything we asked with style and grace. Don’t hesitate to try their wonderful food and their even better service!!!
The food was great, drinks were great and our server - Lillian H - was excellent! She was the best waitress we’ve had anywhere in a long time. Very attentive, our order was perfect and even though the table beside us was being a little rude and demanding, she never lost her composure. We will definitely be back soon!
We came here for dinner and were not disappointed. The food was decently priced and the drinks were good. There were strong so be ready. There was a wait so definitely not a bad idea to have a reservation or atleast call ahead. We sat at the bar without a wait. There is plenty of room due to its size. I would come back here.
I don't quite understand the negatively of some of these reviews. I've experienced dining from all across the country and EVERY restaurant has some "hiccups"... especially new ones. We had none on our first visit to Jorge's. I especially appreciate the menu that varied their dishes... not the bland normal fare of a lot of other Tex-Mex restaurants. To be sure, it is not your typical Mexican food. I had the Brisket Enchiladas, and was extremely pleased with the fact that not only was Mole on their menu, but was very good. (I have not found any other restaurant in town that offered Mole!) The staff was very attentive, always topping off our drinks and chips. We had reservations and were seated immediately. It might have helped that we didn't go during peak hours. Kudos to "George" for stepping out of the average, and trying something unique!
Carter was an excellent server! We enjoyed all the selections she suggested! Super terrific dinner! Loved it all!
This sweet spot on Franklin drive, is as perfect on the inside as it from the outside. The staff helps make it a weekly stop for us. Once we discover all of the fresh menu items. Many tasty drinks from the bar. The service starts our experience and they allow us to discover our favorite items. Remember, the front doors are heavy…that allows the hostess, to see us as they open the door. The place is beautiful. The food is beautiful. The service is excellent. Enjoy your visit.
My Mother, Aunt and I are from out of town and are here for a girls weekend. We had Carter as our waitress and they were amazing!!! We had such an amazing time and amazing food! I would definitely recommend coming here if you’re in town!
I love this place! The place is huge and accommodating to our needs. We love the chips and salsa they give us as free appetizers. Their fajitas are great. Try their mixes meats because its amazing!
Kennedy was our server what mannerism what compassion and kindness she treated us like we were out of town friends she has not seen in a long time because of her we will be back with guest's and also a hostess that I cannot pronounce her name young beautiful Mexican girl was so nice in seating us my wife and I were very impressed with your staff God bless all of you🙏
I really dont do these, but i got to after tonight. Celebrating my birthday here at home, Our server was Harley. It was her first week but we honestly could hardly tell. Party of 5, plus my almost 2 year old neice that wanted the spotlight the whole night. Food was great, service was comforting, and atmosphere was perfect. I met Cory, the bartender, right before I left and i gotta say the drinks are DANGEROUSLY PERFECT. Definitely coming again next time I come home, an amazing dinner with great food. Awesome Job Jorge’s team!
5 stars across the board. Visiting from Orlando FL we have our fair share of Hispanic food, and this is the BEST Mexican food we’ve had. We were lucky to have Honorio as our waiter, he was absolutely amazing. Always ready to make perfect recommendations and made us feel so welcomed the entire time. His service truly elevated an already incredible meal. We’ll absolutely be back and asking for Honorio again! Outstanding experience overall.
So delicious and high quality! All of the food tasted phenomenal. Reminded me of authentic New Mexican style food. None of the food was too oily or greasy and appeared/tasted fresh. Service was really on top of it and quick, even offered to go drinks which was a nice touch. 10/10 recommend trying this place in Waco.
The place is nicely decorated, and the food is good. The chips and salsas made a good first impression. We got the Tres Amigos Dip Board as an appetizer, with good queso blanco and avocado ranch dips, but our favorite was the black bean dip. For our mains, we got the cheese enchiladas and the tacos al carbon. Both were good, with a special mention of the chili con carne on the enchiladas, which had a really rich flavor. The service was great, and Honorio took good care of us. Overall, it's a nice, slightly upscale place for tasty Tex-Mex food.
Wife had Agave Mahi Mahi, The Best Mahi Mahi cooked in Waco Tx. With a side of street corn and al pastor brussels(very good!) I had jalapeño rub Carna Asada (medium) it was closer to rare but it was still very delicious.( it made a MAD steak ans egg brunch. We tried a flight of tequila, all written in the picture with our personal ratings. The manager was very nice and noticed our flight and gave us a complimentary drink of His personal favorite. (It's now a favorite of ours, La pugla) Jorge's is a great place to enjoy different kinds of tequilas. Highly recommend and have nothing negative to say about it. We will be back.
I would go back, but I'm not sure how I really felt about it, honestly. There's not anything that I ate that would set them apart from another place. We had the fajitas for 2 and honestly for 40$ totally NOT worth it. I understand you each get 2 sides, but it's not 40$ worth. You basically pay 40$ for a lb of meat. We got the Jorges jalapeno ranch dip and it was good, but not really ranch-y. More like a creamy guacamole in my opinion. Our service was phenomenal and that is always a huge plus. I felt the barracho black beans lacked flavor. The elite side dish was tasty and would be worth a try. I think I was hoping for a little more flavor and more quantity for the price.
It was a pleasant experience eating lunch at Jorge's Cantina Waco, the place is very clean and tidy, the customer service is one of the best. Now let's talk about the food, I tasted a delicious Mexican street corn, It was very good. I chose Tacos al Carbon made with beef, they are good, nothing out of the ordinary. Then I moved on to a Spicy Carnitas Torta, I have to mention that the pork meat is tasty also the bread, but the mix of vegetables and guacamole stole the flavor. I couldn't eat the beans, they had a lot of cumin. The table in front of the bathroom is not a great idea, I know you need to maximize the space available but is not nice see people in and out of there while I was eating my taco.
Most of the food was super good but we got the combination fajitas (ribs, beef, chicken and shrimp for two). The portions of the beef and chicken were a bit smaller then expected. But the flavor was dynamic.
I have heard mixed reviews so far, so I went to try it myself. Seating at the bar was lovely, ambiance was upscale but not suffocatingly formal, and the bartender was pleasant + did a good job. The El Tropico margarita was well done and my Brisket Barbacoa enchiladas were also executed well. The rice in particular was quite interesting and flavorful, while the mole sauce was very rich and earthy. I am torn because while the food and service was excellent, the prices feel just a tad lofty. If I could wave a magic wand, I'd drop mixed drinks ~$2 and a lot of the entrees say ~$3. Trust me, I get that running a restaurant has a ton of costs the average person doesn't comprehend at first. I'm not suggesting anything crazy like half off or that the staff don't deserve to get paid well. But some small price cuts here and there may build a larger base of regulars in the future. Just my gut feeling. Overall a solid 4 stars. No complaints on food quality or service. Pricing is not ridiculous, but high enough that it could be a bit hard to recommend as a once a week trip or anything frequent. Definitely worth a try though!
The chicken enchiladas with hatch green chillies sourcream sauce with mexican rice was good. Service was just right. The Mexican corn needed more corn and less of the Mexican sauce. I mixed some of the corn with the rice and enjoyed it .ore that way. The sweet tea was too sweet for me so after mixing it with some u sweet tea was good to go. FYI They do charge a 3% credit card fee. Would eat there again.
The chimichanga was one of the better ones I have had. There was not a lot of broth in the tortilla soup. It's almost more casserole than soup. The tortillas were also more dominant than anything else. Very flavorful though. Music was loud but we were in a booth where the ceiling is lower so that probably played a role.
Still asks for reservations, but we were seated early when we got there about 1130 this morning. Attentive staff, but minor scatterbrained (just like the Baylor Georges). Mom loved her chicken fajitas, not the rice or beans. I likes the beans and the green rice was neutral. I got the enchiladas Del Mar and they had no problem deleting the pico de gallo. They were good, shrimp and crab mainly. We'll go back, think of the restaurant as a fancy chain mexican restaurant, with prices in that range. Not a suit and tie place though.
We were seated quickly. The server came and got drink orders right away. We ordered the tres amigos dip board. The queso blanco was my favorite. We also got guacamole, and street corn with the chicharones. All the dips were good. They give you an option of chicharones or chips but our server recommended trying the chicharones since we already get chips and salsa. I liked the chicharones, they were seasoned nicely. They did take a long time to bring out the chips and salsa. We had fajitas with basmati rice and beans. The basmati rice was really good. The fajita meat was very bland. The chicken was dry and the shrimp was not good. My husband said it tasted burnt. I just thought it was bad. Overall it was a good experience. I would definitely get the queso again.
My husband and I visited the restaurant around lunchtime on Saturday. I expected it to be busy, but thankfully, it was only moderately full. The service was impeccable. Our server, Chris, was attentive, checking in anytime he passed by, and gracious throughout our entire time there. Sadly, the food underwhelmed us, but it was our first time there, so I imagine it's a matter of finding what items on their menu they do better than others (since every restaurant has something they do well and something that's just there to fill a category). Let's start with the starters. We had complimentary chips and salsa, which included a salsa verde and a salsa roja. The green salsa was the spiciest of the two but had a tangy flavor we enjoyed. We also tried the queso blanco but decided against trying the chicharrónes offered with it. The queso was okay. I've had similar, so it wasn't groundbreaking, but it was tasty if you like queso blanco more than salsa. The chips were enjoyable, crisp, and not oily. Our meals were the most underwhelming part of our afternoon. I get the feeling Chris would've tried to do something about it had we complained, but it was our first time dining there, and I did not feel like complaining when the food was edible; it was just under-seasoned. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak (I know, "Who orders Chicken Fried Steak when it's a Mexican cantina-style restaurant?"). I had a craving for it, and it was there! Sadly, it is not their specialty (even though they have it until Specials). The breading was thin, crisp, and well-flavored, but the steak was bland. It's a round steak, not veal, so naturally, I did not expect it to be that tender (which was fine); the chewiness was not something I would complain about. However, if you're serving a steak and hoping the breading and cream gravy (which was Hatch Chile flavored, not that strong) carry the flavor, you'll be sorely disappointed. The steak would've benefited from being marinated to make it more than a bland piece of beef. Marinating it also would've helped with the tenderness, depending on your choice of marinade. The sides were good. The papas fritas (fries) were delicious, and the chipotle ketchup was a great accompaniment. The Mexican Street Corn was okay, but I am biased because I've had elotes from authentic Mexican restaurants, so anything else would be less than impressive by comparison. My husband had the 'El Chingon Akaushi Hamburgesa,' and the same issue I had with my steak was his issue with the burger patties. The patties were decently thick, but they had no flavor whatsoever. With everything they had on it, you'd think each bite would give you a decent amount of flavor, but it did not. Most of what you taste is the cilantro. There was cheese (Chihuahua cheese), mayo (Cholula mayo), pico de gallo, guacamole, roasted poblano, and carnitas spiced bacon. When we tasted the bacon on its own, it was delicious, but flavored ingredients will not save bland burger patties. I imagine they grilled it from a frozen state, which is fine, but even frozen burger patties can be pre-seasoned before they are frozen. He also got the fries, the saving grace of his entire meal. Even though we were underwhelmed by what we ordered, we'll likely go back to try their enchiladas and tacos. Hopefully, their other menu items have more flavor than what we ordered on Saturday. I also like their lima limón soft drink, which is similar to Sprite, though they use cane sugar as a sweetener and make it in-house, which was very good. We also tried their lemonade, which was tasty and not too sweet. The service was excellent, though, so we look forward to returning and giving the menu another chance.
This week we’ve branched out from Dallas and into Waco, Texas Waco Texas seems to be a quiet college town with large Baylor college presence. A Server from Chuhy’s actually told us we should check out Jorges while we were in for lunch a few days ago and we did. It was packed too, and enjoyed some ranch water, beers, chips, and salsa. The restaurant was Humming say the least. Double-sided bar with sports on every television. It must’ve been back to school week because it was filled with families and college students. The atmosphere was fun and lively! I had the Carne Asada for 30 bucks and my acquaintance had the street tacos. We also tried the Al pastor brussels sprouts which were amazing and I had the Mexican street corn side dish with my steak, which was also delicious. I thought the experience was really great. The bar was slammed and drinks did take a little bit longer than I had hoped for, but it’s probably best that I only had a few drinks vs a ton of drinks We later found out that the restaurant was brand new to the area and has only been open for about two months. I was impressed and I would for sure venture back for the brussels sprouts and the corn. I’d probably try the tacos. Next time I come in and maybe one of the frozen margaritas. there’s really not a lot of restaurants to choose from and Waco compared to big cities, but there are a lot of Mexican restaurants to choose from and I think this one was outstanding! There was also a lot of parking available around, in front, and behind the restaurant .
After reading the reviews, I was suprised to get right in and be seated. Then, I found out real quick, this is not traditional Mexican food. Had a taste for enchiladas. However, there was not one dish on the menu that even resembled normal. Everything was an upscale version. Not that they did not sound good, but normal is nice, too. The chips and salsa checked in perfect, with the salsa served warm, just the way I like it. We got the Street Corn as an appetizer. It was wonderful. The only problem pre-meal was that the drinking glasses are so small that I felt like Gulliver from Gulliver’s Travels. Probably had to have it refilled 10 times. Thank goodness that we had an excellent waitress. For the main coarse, I got the Barbacoa Street Tacos and my wife got the shrimp cocktail. We both started off worried because we had to add salt, which we normally do not do. However, once salted, they were both really good. Didn’t like the beans from the start, but they grew on me. But, the rice they serve is green, was like none I’ve been served in a Mexican food place, and I’m not sold on it. It was a nice dining experience, but expected more for the price. Maybe I’ll try it again, but try some of the fancier offerings.
My husband and I went to try it out for our first and maybe last time, still debating. My husband met me up at the restaurant and said they wanted to seat us at the high tops and he told them it was a no go and that we would wait for seating for a booth. (My feet swell, cannot sit up high) They put him down for a booth, so when I arrived I was surprised when they tried to sit us in a high top again. All they had was a table which is fine I guess, but all the booths seemed for big parties which is kind of strange, but ok then moving on. I ordered water with lemon, but they didn’t bring me any lemon or straws. Husband ordered sweet tea, but it was lacking. Our server was nice but no real connection, I don’t even think I caught her name. She did refill our drinks more than once so kudos to her, But as mentioned before YOUR CUP CHOICE IS TOO TOO SMALL!! The chips were hard and the salsa was OK but all the food was lacking salt, although There was salt on the table. For some odd reason, I feel like the hole in the salt shaker was too small for the salt granules because nothing was coming out. The rice is interesting, but I wouldn’t call it anything Spanish or Mexican. I think it’s more of middle Eastern or Indian spin on Mexican food. It needed just a couple more minutes to soften up, but the flavors were not bad. I just wouldn’t call it anything Mexican or Spanish. My shrimp and elote tacos were good, but if you’re going to serve tacos, you should have appropriate condiments, which is definitely onions, cilantro and lime always. I understand that you want to do something different And add a flare and twist, It should be more of an international fusion and not considered Mexican. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great. It’s kind of just meh.🫤
For a two person fajita platter we got two small taco’s a piece with two pieces of meat each At $50. not to mention upon entering, there was nobody at the front desk and when the hostess did came around the corner, She looked at us like we ruined her day and was very abrupt. our waitress was nice enough however she had to leave our table several times to go ask questions about what we were ordering and she lingered quite a bit in a very creepy way and over explained things to linger. We were one of four tables of people, small tables And as far as I saw, we were her only table and she was very slow and coming back checking on us or what have you. The atmosphere was very nice though and it was tastefully done. We had more interaction with a waitress that was not our waitress, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I would say I would probably not go back to this place at all. The food was warm in the tortillas were cold.
It’s different. You have to try to see if it is for you. Beautiful establishment. My opinion, the food needs work. Queso and pork rinds awesome twist. Salsa is great too. Drinks are awesome! It seems like most things we have tried has a sweet taste to it. Birria tacos had cheddar cheese and that a no go for me. El pastor tacos has pineapple pieces in it. The different chicken enchiladas tasted like cinnamon. Again everyone is different so defiantly worth trying to see if you like it.
Beautiful atmosphere and has great service. Was not a fan of the salsa and queso as it was thin texture and almost sweet tasting. I ordered fajitas for my entree and had to send the beef back because it was very under cooked. After they brought it back to me fully cooked, I really didn't enjoy it because it was cut in a way that made the meat strips wide and was difficult to prep and eat. It was also about $40 per person with no alcoholic beverages. This won't be my first choice place to eat but I may return for special occasions.
Food was excellent. Granted, we were in at an odd hour, but service was lacking. We came in for a late lunch about 2:45. It took 20 minutes to get someone to take our order, then when she finally did come by her computer wasn't working so she went away again without taking our order. When the food came out, my wife's enchilada was full of onions, even though she specifically asked that there be none. The place looks great - very clean. The only thing we didnt like was that the music was at a level that we had to raise our voices to speak to each other. It sounded like we were in a Mexico city discotec. Not only was the music too loud, but it was extremely annoying as well. No music at all would have been a better choice. Other than that, the atmosphere was great. Given the food, we will definitely give this place another try to see if the service improves at a normal meal time. Our server was friendly enough. It just a long time to get our orders taken. The food arrived quickly after we finally ordered it. It was fantastic. We were happy with our lunch. We will be back to give it another shot.
The service here was good — friendly and attentive — but the food just didn’t hit the mark for us. I had the combo fajitas, two in our party ordered the chicken sour cream enchiladas, and one had the chicken flautas. Everything was edible, but nothing really stood out, and no one at the table cleaned their plate. Overall, decent experience thanks to the service, but the food could be better.
I'm giving Jorge's 3 stars due to the ok vibe of this restaurant and my first impression. I had expected better service but it was just blah. The inside was very nice with eye catching decor, well lit and ample seating. It wasn't too crowded or overwhelming. The hostess walked me towards the back of the restaurant without any friendly greeting which was a bit off-putting. She didn't even bother to ask if I wanted to sit at table or a booth. This minor slip up needs improvement so that the customer wants to come back. My waiter Owen was very attentive and pleasant. He welcomed me with a warm smile and made sure I was content with my order. He gets 5 stars for his wonderful personality and attentive service. I ordered a beef chimijanga, black beans and Mexican rice. They provide you with complimentary chips and salsa, one red salsa, and one green. The red one was delicious but the other didn't taste good at all. My food arrived hot, A+, and Owen was consistent with my drink refills. The atmosphere was nice, and because my visit was on Halloween, I had the pleasure of listening to some nostalgic music from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and the original Ghostbusters theme song and Owen's dancing which kept me entertained.
The service and atmosphere were great but the food was as lacking. We ordered the Fajita Combo FOR 2 for $38 and this was the amount of food given to us. Not pictured are two sides that weren’t photographed and 3 small corn tortillas. So we each got two small strips of chicken and 1 small strip of meat. We asked for the manager and she agreed it appeared to be a small amount of meat for 2 people (and almost $40) so we received some more of both chicken and steak later. But when the check came we were then charged for the extra meat. If you see on the receipt picture (the waitress was nice enough to split the bill so we paid separately) it shows that she added meat for 4 bucks then comped it but then added it again. The person I ate with had the same set of charges on his receipt. The food itself was fine. I just wouldn’t order the fajitas “for 2” because it’s definitely not enough for two people.
The service was great, loved the atmosphere. The food was a little overpriced. 10$ for a half a cup of queso and 13$ for two street tacos ( the lunch special) was a bit much.
I was really looking forward to Jorge’s since I’m a huge fan of George’s. I know it’s their second official day since the grand opening, so please know that I’m writing the rest of this with love and affection. There’s major room for improvement. Unfortunately, the only thing that went mildly right was having our reservation time honored… that was after they asked me if being seated at the Cantina was okay because they had given the intended table away (the reservation was for dining room seating for a Friday lunch at 1:15 in which I arrived shortly after 1:00). I’m not sure why but the floors are dangerously SLIPPERY (across the entire restaurant). For being an active young adult, I was afraid that I would slip and fall, so I was cautiously walking heel-toe heal-toe. I thought it was just my shoes, but even the chair legs easily skated across the floor while I was seated. The bathroom signs for the men’s and women’s doors are awfully similar. Double-check that you’re entering the correct one. The women’s bathroom was out of soap and one of the paper towel dispensers was out of order. I know it was the lunch rush, but these things matter. As for the food, the tortilla chips arrived halfway stale. Not sure when they were made, but it was definitely not fresh. Be aware that cilantro is present in a lot of the food served. If you’re not a fan of cilantro, make sure that you state that while you’re ordering. Our waitress had put in the orders correctly, but my order came out wrong. She had offered to send it back; however, the restaurant was very busy, so I did not want to add to the frenzy. I’m not one to send an order back, but I could not get past two bites. The meal was over-salted— bordering on inedible. There was no amount of lime that could neutralize it. I had to let the waitress know. She offered to have the kitchen remake my plate but informed me that since it had been eaten, she would need to charge me on top of the order. BAFFLED was an understatement. Keep in mind, I had taken one bite from the first quesadilla and taken a bite from another to make sure that it wasn’t just the first quesadilla that had been over-salted. By this time, it was nearing 2:00, and I had eaten a whopping 3 stale tortilla chips and two measly bites of the incorrect order, so I hadn’t much choice and was obliged to have my order sent back with the proposed additional charge. She came back several minutes later saying that she had spoken to the manager, and that I would not be charged the additional fee— how being charged extra for them to correct something that the kitchen staff had made a mistake on is beyond me. The waitress said that my order would be prioritized (I knew that was wishful thinking). Half an hour went by before my correct order arrived. During the time we were seated, staff members constantly came by and checked on the table— a little too frequently, asking how things were going. It was just easier to pretend that things were fine. Let’s be real, I’m not about to unpack my subpar experience to a different staff member every 3-5 minutes. Checking in once every several minutes is fine. However, the over-checking to gauge overall customer satisfaction was too much; resulting in disruptions between conversations throughout the entire dining experience. All in all, there’s a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully, the novelty will wear off in the next few months, and the experience will be better on the next visit.
I got the al pastor tacos & it was mainly vegetables (tomatoes) and queso fresco on them with a little meat. apart from this we got the chips & salsa & queso. which the chips and queso were delicious. we also ordered the fajitas and the quesadillas in our party and everyone left there food. chicken fajitas were very dry. overall the atmosphere is really good, customer service is good, but the food is just simply not it. don’t think i’d come back as i simply don’t see how you can mess up on tacos 🥲
What could be more wrong? A good friend of mine and I made a reservation on Sunday to visit this restaurant today at 3:00 p.m.. This restaurant is new and I understood the necessity for this. We arrived early and informed the friendly friendly hostesses that we were not supposed to be sat till 3:00. They told us a table was already open and we were ready to go! Great job! A server, Alexis, was following us awkwardly to our table, asking what we would like to drink. I told him mine and he hurriedly ran off. He didn't ask my friend anything. We sat at a high top table in the bar and as we placed ourselves on the stools we both started sliding and nearly fell off the stools. Not stable, big failure!! A young lady brought us a bowl of cold broken pieces of chips and a red and green salsa. Both salsas were excellent. When our waiter returned, we asked for hot, whole chips. Our server was very very nervous and almost skittish. I ordered a queso as an appetizer. It never arrived. Failure #2 He immediately followed with asking what we would like for lunch. We said we had never been and needed a few moments. He made no suggestions and left the table. I had Mexican food earlier in the week so I decided to have Jorge's version of chicken fried steak with refried beans and fries. I had ordered a dos Equis Big O and a diet Coke. I received the beer in a warm glass with no lime and a glass of soda that looked as if it were for a child!! There were probably eight small pieces of crushed ice in the glass. Fountain soda actually requires a lot of ice to mix properly. Failure #3. My lunch arrived! I was very hungry. The beans with queso fresco arrived and I immediately tasted them. No salt no pepper, very bland. My fries were cold and hard. The chicken fried steak? Very chewy and the breading was falling off with every bite. The gravy was not even warm and already starting to congeal and wiggle like jello. Again, another failure. When we were ready to leave, I finally stacked our plates. When our waiter finally returned, we asked that he take the plates away, He looked very caught off guard and nervous. Another failure, what a shock! We were here for a little over an hour and a half and we were treated to watching the bartender prep her margarita mix and listen to her throwing glass bottles in the trash can rather than just sitting them on top of existing trash. We also got to listen directly to employees stopping by to gossip. We would like to have watched the TV over their heads, because it would have been more interesting than listening to afternoon bar prep. The bar area was absolutely huge so why do your prep in front of many of your guests? My friend had two short frozen margaritas, but it tasted like blended, frozen Gatorade. I advise that you either wait for this restaurant to mature or save your time and go elsewhere. Two small margaritas were $20 the large beer was $5. Our total was $62. We expected much better from Jorge's after all the hype. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous there was just nothing good inside of it to eat today. Waco has too many good restaurants and good waiters to settle for this nonsense.
This had to be the worst Mexican food we’ve ever had. The rice was crunchy, and tasteless. Both types of rice. The charro beans had a weird flavor. Same for the refried beans. The green salsa was okay, but the red salsa was terrible. I had the flautas, and they were not good at all. My husband had Tres Traditional. He said the enchilada was okay, he did not like the flauta and chicken taco. It was missing the dipping sauce too. Even the street corn in a bowl was funky. Next time we’ll just go to Taco Bueno.
The food was not good; salsa, queso, Rice, beans, taco, flauta, and enchilada. It was very bland and just meh. Our waitress was fine. Environment is not what im looking for at a Mexican food restaurant with early 2000s pop music playing. It was expensive for what the food ended up being. My husband and I will not be returning.
I hate to write bad reviews but our experience was not good. From the service, to the food, it was bad all the way around. Everything we ordered, had cilantro in it, except our drinks and chips. It was overly used. Our cheese dip was luke warm at best, when brought to us. The “sprite” is made in house and you’re not told this, unless you complain about the taste. Now the salt shakers…….only have 1 tiny hole and I do mean tiny. 1 grain of salt at a time comes out. My lunch lady arm got a massive workout, while trying to get a few grains of salt for my chips and salsa. I eventually gave up. Now, to the worst part……the service. Im not saying all the service is bad but OUR service, we received, was bad. Our waitress was pretty non existent during our visit. However, everybody else’s waiters and waitresses were on point and around all the time. We saw our waitress when we ordered. When we got a refill. When we got our food and when we got our check. In between, need something…..forget it. We weren’t gonna be able to find her. It’s worse than that though. She would not stop touching her face. While taking our order, she had her hand rubbing her face, when it wasn’t on the handheld. When she brought us our cheese dip, she stood right over our cheese dip and chips, scratching her nose hole!!! I’m not kidding when I say, she just could not keep her hands off her face. Then at the end, she brought us our check and had a black hairband dangling from her fingers. I told my husband, I sure hope she takes that off bc what would you do if she would have brought our food out with that hair band on her fingers??? I kid you not, it wasn’t hardly a minute or 2 later and she brought a families food out and had the hairband still dangling from her fingers. The establishment was beautiful. That’s something nice I can say but when we spend so much and have service like that, I have to warn others. Oh and if you like napkins, bring some bc all you’ll find here are the material ones. I looked forward to trying this place so much. Very unfortunate.
The hostess was rude, abrupt and very uninviting. She gave us some very unpleasant looks and did not say anything upon leaving us at the table. The server was nice but did not seem to understand her job. The food was cold and had no flavor. The portion size was ridiculously small we ordered fajitas for two and was only able to make two tiny tacos a piece. So for the price of 50 dollars it was not worth the money.
Here's a thought, maybe it best not to wait until the "new place to eat" wears off. Jorge open end of June 2024. The atmosphere is nice. I like the flow and especially the tables around the bar. Our server was attentive. So was next. She had nothing to do with but help make it right. As you can see, we all got the Street Tacos, 1 order of Steak, 1 order of Carnitas & 1 order of Brisket. We also got Queso with Chicharrons. The chips and hot sauce were free. If I was there, I would have a hard time believing this, we'll I was there, and I still can't believe it happened. So the kitchen put 1 Carnitas taco with 2 Brisket tacos and 1 Brisket Taco with 2 Carnitas Tacos. For the Steak order, I got all 3. Out of 9 taco total, only 5 were eaten. We didn't like the favor of the meat, didn't like the rice, and they only had black beans. I will say they did remade the Carnitas Order and removed 1 full Street Taco order. With only 2 waters and 1 tea, it was still over $40. It's not a place for us to return.
We arrived late afternoon on a Saturday. There was plenty of parking available. The restaurant was maybe half full, and our party of two was seated immediately. Our friendly waitress quickly arrived to take our drink orders. We ordered a cocktail and a beer. We also received a small basket of chips and two bowls of salsa. The chips and salsa were ok, but neither stood out. She later came back to take our food order and also apologized for the drinks not having been served yet, saying the bar was behind. We thought that to be odd, since the place wasn't too busy. My wife ordered the Del Mar Enchalada Plate. I ordered the Tres Traditional (a three item combination plate) and asked whether the enchalada was cheese or beef. She clarified it was cheese, and I asked if I could upgrade to a beef enchalada. She said they didn't allow substitutions. My wife then asked if I could get a beef enchalada on the side, and she replied that they didn't serve al a carte items. So, I chose not to have anything to eat. I also canceled my cocktail, since it had not arrived yet. My wife's food arrived shortly thereafter. She said her Del Mar plate was good. This was my first time for Jeorge's, and I was looking forward to it, as we have been regular customers of the two George's restaurants for over 20 years. I was quite disappointed that you can't get a simple beef enchalada on a Mexican combination plate. There are too many Mexican food restaurants in town where you can get better menu options, to include a beef enchalada. It wasn't until after we left that my wife told me her group of friends had been gere a few months earlier and had awful service. So, I suspect this will be my one and only time at Jorge's.
