Wonderful little place we found on our way to San Rafael. Kind & attentive staff awaits you along with tasty pastries & full menus for breakfast & lunch, and a nice wine bar in the evenings. A warm, cozy feeling place with wifi & even a fireplace to warm you in the winter. We'll make this stop again! :):)
There is plenty of variety on food, and the coffee is respectable. The staff is friendly, but there is no rushing in this small town. I got the Shasta Bagel Melt on a Hiker bagel with Swiss cheese. It was delicious.
I come here all the time and have never had a bad experience. The staff is amazing and always makes you feel welcome, the food and drinks are awesome, and the decor is chic and comfortable. The free WiFi is a plus too. Ellie's is the best place in town!
Good sandwiches and good coffee! I do not live in the area, but stop in whenever I do pass through! stopped in again on our way to Chico. Absolutely recommend this place! Also great breakfast burritos!
It has a great atmosphere. The employee's are very nice and friendly, and the food and drinks are are great! If you want you can even hangout and use their WIFI or just stick around and BS with friends and family or even someone you just met.
An absolutely delightful establishment :) Elizabeth took care of me and my mother and made us feel super welcome - made me a dry Cappuccino that was off the charts! She is very friendly and also, through no fault of her own, terribly cute. Ambiance, cozy. Service, prompt. Interior design, wood variation. Hot Merchandise, Colorful mason jars tightly fitted with handles made from fastened rope that look essentially Portlandian but Californian at heart. Repeat visit? Yes, please!!!!!!!
Always a great place to stop on the way north. Fresh local baked goods and excellent coffee. Try their breakfast oatmeal cookie with multiple dried fruits and nuts along with the raisins and oatmeal. Lasted me for two breakfasts.
Ellie's sits midway on South Weed Boulevard, parking can be tight but I can assure you it's worth figuring out. When you enter you're greated with a clean shabby chic vibe and the freshly grinded scent of delicious coffee. The baristas are always welcoming and quick to offer their service! Take a seat in the surprising seating area off to the side in a cozy leather chair or at tables, whichever is your delight. On certain evenings you will find the bakery turns into a wine bar with fantastic appetizers and even live music from time to time. Be sure to check for any upcoming Paint and Sip events, always a blast!
Great coffee and bakery with free wifi and great sandwiches. I ordered the Zach club and it was really good. Their potato soup was superb as well. Definitely a good stop for travelers looking for a short break.
I ordered a BLTA with a cappuccino and my wife had an avocado tomato and Sprouts sandwich. Both were magnificent! The store baked homemade bread was incredible. So good we bought two loaves!
Came in late in the day, disappointed that the baked goods were mostly gone. But we found some bars that were well made and had some tea. The guy in charge was helpful and friendly and gave us extra hot water at the end so we could take some tea away with us.
Came in for a coffee & pastry. Was so good I repeated my order. If visiting area, these folks are from here and very nice to offer input on questions you may have.
Great place for homemade soups, pastries and sandwiches. I was so impressed I almost called the restaurant from the road to express my delight. Cheddar broccoli soup, chicken, cranberry, celery salad on fabulous bread and a raspberry cream turnover, oh my. It is our new go to stop for fresh and delicious food!
Everything we've ordered is soooo good from the Mount Shasta Bagel, Coffee, Chai Tea, and more! Love the atmosphere! And fun goodies to buy! Bathroom was so clean! We stop everytime we go through Weed, CA. Even when it's 108 degrees! :)
Excellent place to eat! I had the club sandwich, it was the kind of sandwich I make myself at home! When you're afraid to set it down because once you pick it up it's going to fall apart if you let go! Everything was fresh, it was delicious the people were gracious and made me feel right at home. Definitely a good place to stop if you're in weed California.
This is such a cool little restaurant and coffee shop. The people who work here are so friendly and helpful. The barista gave me such a mouth-watering description of the breakfast sandwich, that I had to get it. And that breakfast sandwich is so delicious! They use high quality cheddar cheese, and cheddar cheese is my favorite. One of the nice touches is they have a lot of art from local artist Lee Weber. Actually, this place is kind of like a Lee Weber art gallery, which is awesome! He makes great paintings of Mount Shasta, which is probably one of the most interesting mountains around. They have free refills on the drip coffee, which is delicious. They also have coconut milk, soy milk, and almond milk. My only complaint is that it's a little hard to tell when they're open, since their neon sign is a little hidden by the window. They're also one of the few establishments in Weed that can stand on their own without a kitschy name that's a reference to the town. The decor is also great, because half of the tables are barrels.
Had a large sugar free Hazelnut Mocha with soy milk. Not the most complicated order, but it was still a little different then a normal one. They did it perfectly. Also the atmosphere in the cafe was very relaxing and calm, and the store was very clean. Not to mention the prices were really fair.
Stopped for lunch while on a road trip. Had the turkey sandwich, very good. Also took some yummy turnovers and scones for the road. They had a fundraiser going on with dog biscuits for sale, my dogs loved them.
Love this place. I had a Zack's special sandwich with tomato basil ravioli soup. Yum. Good food. Good prices. Yes, lots of coffee options. Open for breakfast and lunch. Beer and wine. They do have evening events that can be wine tasting and or music on some Fridays. Check the website for hours and events. Great place to stop right off I-5. Also intersects with Highway 97.
After hours in the car on our way home, we pulled up to Ellie's just moments before they closed. We poked our head in the door and asked if they were still open. They said they were closing but invited us in and graciously took our orders. The sandwiches are delish and the bread is amazing! Ellie's is a hidden gem, and so are the gals who run it! 🙌
Had a really great sandwich here. Took a chance in order the gluten-free bread, it was amazing! Unlike anything gluten-free that I've ever had. The staff was friendly and the environment's clean and relaxing.
This little small town café is cute and peaceful. Can really relax in here when enjoying a cup of coffee. Everyone in this café are very friendly. 5 stars all around.
The cutest bakery! I chose it because it was close to motel 6 and right on the road, and had good reviews. I love it! Had the breakfast sandwich (eggs bacon cheese in a croissant) and Chai tea. Super delicious! Not only the staff is fantastic and very attentive, they also let me bring in my cat inside (in it's carrier of course) because it was freezing outside. If I am in tge town of Weed again I am definitely stopping by! P. S. Love the decor!
If you need a place to do video conferences without the loud music like at Starbucks, this is the place for you. Free wifi is fast. Sandwiches, bakery, and coffee are just too delicious to pass on.
We stop at Ellie’s every time we can on our way between Seattle and San Francisco. The sandwiches are amazing (they must make their own bread cause it’s fantastic!) and the owner/service is excellent! They really go above and beyond.
This is a family favorite. I would go here for the Lemurian Lemon Bars in the late 1990s and early 2000s when I was taking classes at COS. After I had kids I took them there now and then until we moved to McCloud. Now that my son takes classes up at the college campus this is his favorite place to go on Fridays.
Stopped here after driving for hours, we had already tried getting food in several other towns but had no luck.. Walked in the door 15 minutes after they closed without realizing & they were so kind and insisted on making us sandwiches! Food was delicious, got two pastries for the road as well :) A very pleasant experience, more people should stop here on their travels.
Yummy Samis; saved my vacation in Weed about 2 years back. I ended up eating here at least three times and took food with me for the cooler. Cute Cafe atmosphere.
I drove up and stayed at a little Mt Shasta motel called Evergreen Lodge Thursday and the gas station said best breakfast burrito at Ellies Espresso and Bakery 12 minutes down in Weed ca., WOW the lady was so nice and it was BIG & FAT delicious. Got the turkey sand to go hummm . Tuesday stayed there again and eat the breakfast burrito again at Ellie's Espresso same great food. So relax and enjoy your day. Also BE KIND, now life short.
Was a great little stop. Really good pastries and coffee. Pricing was fair also.
Great place! I loved the bacon and cheddar scone
Great place to stop in when you're on a road trip. This place has a lot of history to it, and it's been around since 1964. Food is great and made fresh.
Great place to get a pastry cookies/ ice cream/ coffee/ hot chocolate/ latte'. It's all good!! Will be back, if and when we come back in the area. The staff was wonderful! Thank you for a great experience!
Cinnamon roll was delicious. We had friendly staff and great service.
Drinks are great, service is really good, but the pastries are superb. Perfectly flaky crust, nice glass sugar dusting, and the filling if sweetinf, but not over powering. We got stuck overnight in Weed CA, but this little Café was definitely a highlight. Also be able to give the kids a little bit of internet made being stuck much more bearable.
I stopped in for a quick bite on my travels. I had a roast beef sandwich that was made to order. Fresh and tasty.
We ordered a veggie melt and a veri veggie sandwich i think both were delicious. I would highly recommend this cafe. Fresh ingredients, fast service and pretty good food.
Ellie's Espresso is a lovely place to relax and get morning coffee/tee and pastries. The service is really friendly. The breakfast cookies are huge and chalked full of fruity goodness. The Chai Tea is also exquisitely flavorful. I was also really pleased with the dairy free milk alternatives.
Great coffee and some snacks if needed. Clean place and comfortable. Thank you.
Finally! A really good coffee ☕😌 We took 2 latte and sandwiches with soup. It's tasted great! The bread is really delicious here.🔥 Thanks, guys! 🌷
Lovely little cafe. Tables for dining, a bar for individual seating, and a cozy little corner next to a fire place with books and a chess board available. I was greeted with a friendly, warm, and helpful staff. This place feels homey. It was the perfect spot for me to stop and grab a bite to eat while getting some work done on the road. I'll be stopping here again next time I'm passing through.
AMAZING! Their house made bread and pastries are outstanding. We were so impressed we took home a loaf and several pastries for our pals!! Their cinnamon roll is so well balanced - soft but firm, not overly sweet, perfect icing ratio, and incredible cinnamon flavor.

Cozy atmosphere, delicious real food with quality ingredients. Excellent as a pit-stop, quick service on the food and the coffee.
Great food and atmosphere. The only gripe is it took more than 45 minutes to get our order.

Northern California is traditionally weak when it comes to good coffee. This place is the exception. A Seattle style Internet coffee house, it’s open early, reasonably priced, unpretentious, and a reasonable alternative to the greasy café across the street. This will be a regular stop for me. Nothing fancy mind you. Starbucks fans can find a more synthetic atmosphere somewhere else nearby.
We were exploring the area and decided to stop in for coffee. It's a quaint, almost home-like place that has good coffee and various other treats. Prices were what you would expect. Service was pleasant and attentive.
I just purchased one of their Chicken Bacon Avocado wraps...I must say it was really good! The wrap was fresh and plenty of good quality ingredients. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait. Don't be in a rush like I was...but rather sit and enjoy your meal.
Exceptional coffee and adequate food. I had the breakfast burrito which was alright nothing unique that stood out. But man the strawberry chocolate latte was simply amazing. I will be back for it again and would recommend it to anyone that likes a little caffeinated sweetness is their life.
I met 3 friends here for lunch. I ordered the half salad, half sandwich. The salad was good with about 6 different ingredients. The sandwich was chicken salad on wheat. The chicken salad itself was good, but the bread really fell apart while I tried to eat it. I'd suggest requesting the bread toasted. It also came with some tortilla chips. Someone ordered a burrito, can't remember everyone else. Not many comments from them on the food.
Very cute shop on the main road. The baked goods looked really great. We Have driven through Weed several times now and have always wanted to stop here. Finally did and enjoyed the place and servers. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to know how to make coffee/espresso that are fairly typical at other shops. My friend asked for a blended coffee drink but they didn't know what that was so she asked for a hot chocolate with Carmel flavor....she got a cold chocolate milk with Carmel flavor. I ordered and Americano with heavy cream and sugar free peppermint and vanilla.... I got what I'm pretty sure was black coffee and possibly vanilla flavor but it was so faint I couldn't tell what it was...at least it was hot.
This was a cute place to have a pastry or coffee. It has a nice and calming atmosphere, which is nice for socializing or getting work done. I did however feel like the staff behind the counter were talking very loudly to each other and were kind of distracted from taking my order.
We stopped here early afternoon on a Friday. We picked up a bunch of pastries. They were fine. Only one person working counter. Service was fine for us. The folks behind us were getting a bit restless due to the amount of time our order took to box up.
Rustic coffee shop with baked treats. We had a tuxedo mocha (our server had to ask someone else what that was, though tuxedo hot chocolate was the posted special). I should have asked for "half-sweet" as it turned out to be very thick. The fresh bearclaw we bought didn't seem very fresh. Meanwhile, the day-old chocolate muffin was tasty, moist, and rich despite literally falling apart in our hands. A very messy deliciousness. Clean bathroom available. 💪🏼
Amazing breakfast/brunch! Shasta bagel & breakfast burrito was super delicious & pastries were very tasty too. Super friendly & efficient staff, plenty of indoor seating & a little piece of history.
I was getting fuel nearby and needed a coffee after a long drive. I called in and unfortunately their coffee machine was down, so I just got a drip coffee instead. I'm not a fan usually, but it was pretty good. I've seen a few reviews commenting about Starbucks being better. This sounds like people with no taste buds, who prefer a cup of diabetes, rather than actual coffee.

Cute little shop. Friendly staff. Food was good. Their 5 grain bread was phenomenal. Veggies were very fresh. Just wish my BLTA had a little more bacon since the slices were paper thin. Would definitely stop again to try something if we are in the area.

This review is mostly for the owner. I am glad the place is open, and the latte I had was excellent. However, when I ordered a chilled mocha to go, the employee made a hot one. I said that it was supposed to be cold, so she took the *hot* drink and put ice in it. Of course, the ice melted and she asked the other employee what to do. That employee told her to keep adding ice. The volume of the drink doubled with all the ice and melted ice poured into it. Then she poured half of the melted slush that was mostly water and gave me that. Very disappointing. I thought about returning it, but she had put so much work into making such a terrible drink, I didn't want to make matters ever worse by complaining, despite the fact I had tipped a $1 before making the $6 drink that is totally gross. Please let the employees know that a hot mocha cannot be mixed with ice. Terrible.
Yes everything is going up in price. Ordered a mocha and brought in my used 12 oz cup from the last place I bought coffee. I figure it's good to recycle. I couldn't believe it when I saw the charge of $6.50 show up on the card reader. I pointed to the cup and asked if the price was correct for this. She only knoded her head yes and left it at that. Gas station coffee here I come 🤣
The food was good. My husband had half sandwich & cup of soup. I ordered a bowl of chili & side salad, but when our lunches arrived, I received a cup of chili and small side salad. I immediately said I ordered a bowl, but the gal said they only had enough chili for a cup.(and this was what I was charged for). I wish they would of said something at the time of my order so I could change it because I was hungry and a small cup & small salad was not as filling as a sandwich would have been. So for food 4 stars, for service 3 stars...
We went in here for coffee and bakery but they had no baked goods. We ended up getting sandwiches. Which weren't bad just not what we were expecting, I've never had a ham wrap with rice inside but it was good.
I had an Italian soda. Hate to say it was the worst Italian Soda I've ever had. Watery, flavorless,Flat. The maker needs to go back to school on that one.
I ordered a latte and it was OK. The place is cute, and we were excited to stop and get a hot drink and treat. Unfortunately, I had not read the reviews before stopping. I wouldn't say the staff were rude, but definitely indifferent. They forgot an item and seemed put out when we reminded them of it. On the positive, the smoothie was tasty, and the pastry was good.
Stopped by here on way home from Central Oregon. Great location in the middle of town. Got two homemade cookies, four stars; and a mocha, two stars. Mocha didn’t taste like much and could really not taste any coffee in my drink. Willing to visit again and try other items.

I’ve been a patron of this café for the past 10+ years. The not so new owner is living off of the previous owners good reviews. The quality of the food has gone down even though they use the same recipes it seems; the size of the sandwiches have shrunk and the prices have gone up. I miss the old days.

I was very unimpressed today. Normally my experience here is good. They're a bit pricey for what they serve but the place across the street was busy so we went to Ellie's instead. We ordered our food amd drinks and they delivered it to us one by one, it was nice and warm, so far so good. We started eating, still waiting for our blended drinks. Eventually we got them one by one, but we're still waiting on the last one. They kept calling other peoples stuff, it wasn't even that busy. Eventually we got up and reminded them and they looked at us (rudely) thinking they already gave it to us or something. Atleast 20-30 minutes had gone by since we first ordered the drink before we got it. No apologies or anything. And they no longer have a drink flavor of the month.
My wife and I were staying in the area for a week and look forward to going to Elle’s bakery in Weed. My wife asked about the bagged up bread pieces on the counter that were for sale, and they said that those were the loaf ends. My wife pointed out that they were moldy. Sorry to say that the response from them was very poor. They said they would look into it instead of immediately looking at the bread and apologizing for such an oversight. They never did look at the bread while we were there.
Is it just me or does it seem like every one who works here is super unfriendly, jaded, and makes you feel a burden to them? For an overpriced breakfast burrito casserole thing I'd expect at least a "hello" when I approach the counter. Customer service is slim to none here. I'm a local too, and it makes me not want to spend my money here.
Out of croissants, didn’t get the order right, not very flavorful. For being the only place with a breakfast menu open on a Tuesday, I would not come here again. I would rather pay McDonald’s for anything else, and fast. I eat McDonald’s on a rare occasion, so this was an unpleasant surprise. All 3 guests dissatisfied
We came in on a pretty slow Sunday afternoon. I was disappointed in the service at the counter, the girl seemed annoyed with any question we asked (we are from out of town and stopping for a coffee and food). They were out of a few staple items, which was fine. The mocha I ordered seemed to have been made with drip coffee and didn't taste anything of what was ordered. I didn't feel comfortable asking it to be remade because of how awkward we felt so we left with our sad coffees. The sandwich was fine.
It used to be my favorite spot. I used to recommend this place to everyone that would listen. It used to have fresh pastries and great coffee. So it really hurts my heart to say the following about a local business. But enough is enough! Management and owners all have been contacted about the following situations from multiple people in the community..... For some reason they got rid of all their old staff (not my business because I am not management nor am I an employee) but the new staff is just low speed with lots of drag. I will only list a few of the problems I and many others have experienced in just the past couple months....... Sweet pastries have tasted like onions and bacon, the coffee is now ALWAYS bad, the Baristas (clothing is not professional and usually dirty) were NOT knowledgeable in the products/procedures, and now it takes forever to get anything you order AND..... when you do get your order, it's usually wrong. I don't know what has happened in the past several months but these guys really need to get their act together because I and many other locals have literally stop spending our money there.
Taste your drink before you go. Got a mocha and milk was sour. Day-old pastries are stale, but guess that can be expected as advertised. Bathroom needs serious cleaning. Friendly staff and plenty of room to sit.
Hold out for something better. This place is not worth the stop. We had sandwiches and wraps. The bread, flour tortillas were dry and stale. The chips that came with everything were stale. Portions were mediocre. And the place smells of stale cigarette smoke. We didn't eat even half of what we ordered. It was a total waste of time and money to stop here.
Bad coffee to go with the bad attitude in the morning! Lovely combination but at least it was hot amirite? Btw, you have a lovely espresso machine. When used correctly, the espresso is probably lovely. 20g coffee, 40g espresso shot (2:1 ratio) pulled in 27-30 seconds. Good luck!
I just paid $24 for this and a scalding hot express-drip :( I didn’t have the highest expectations for the coffee- but two shots that poured in 10 seconds that looked like a mini faucet and milk that got free steamed to death was kinda harsh. Then the BLT of sadness.. all of the tomato pieces had a core that I tried to bite out and discard. The toaster shorted out the outlet so they just didn’t really toast it. Lazily topped sandwich with very little ingredients. The bread did taste really good, but I wish I would have just taken the time to go somewhere else. Two really young girls working that didn’t take much time for customer service, polite enough but uninterested in quality of product or experience. This stop felt like a total waste of money.

We've been coming off and on for the past 13+ yrs. TLC and quality has taken a dive. Seconding the review of the coffee, over steamed milk, and lackluster sandwich further below.
Food prices are a bit high for what you get and nothing impressive about it. They have only one type of bread that's fresh baked besides the gluten free bread, wraps and bagels. I got a breakfast bagel but forgot the egg. Also a sandwich to go with tortilla chips (only option)

It was terrible. The people were nice. The product was subpar. To start... they forgot to put the tuna on the tuna salad! We ordered 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and what they did was put a piece of cheese between bread and microwaved it. My turkey sandwich was wheat bread, turkey, lettuce, and mustard and it was $10. To boot...they didn't even make the three items that my sisters family ordered ahead of us. When they realized it, they were apologetic and did offer a pastry to compensate, but then told them that they were out of turkey. Again... Nice people, but way overpriced and extremely subpar food.
Sorry but inedable. We bought two different pastries and a muffin and all had zero taste except being extremely sweet and dumped in syrup additionally. The dough had no taste. The fillings had no taste. One bite and you knew this is a mistake. Not worth one calorie.
We went in while we were waiting for a lunch order at hi low Cafe. We are new to town the server in hi low recommended them. So we went to see it was 3:02 sign was still on and helping guests inside. We pretty much got kicked out with a " I was just about to turn the sign off im closed" now I've been a server for 8 years I would of took that last guest and locked the door behind or atleast hit the light. Me or my husband was not feeling the vibe so unfortunately we proubly will not try this place.
Stopped here to eat lunch on our way back from Ventura to Roseburg. We ordered 2 veggie burgers, for the obscene price of $9.25 each. These "burgers" were presented on slices of stale bread instead of buns, the veggie patties were just mush, and the side of tortilla chips were stale. The meals were inedible. Staff was incompetent, as well. We each took about 3 bites of this pig slop, and then walked out. Ripped off for $18.50. We won't be back.
Really disappointed, as a ex coffee shop owner I can say, clearly this people is not caring enough about their business, we had a black coffee and a latte, we had to throw it away for how burned they were, food was okay until my chicken wrap started tasting disgusting some bites so just another thing going to the trash, the restroom dirty in everywhere…. Expensive and disappointing…
I’m not one to make reviews, but in this case I felt I needed to share how disappointing the service here was. The front counter girl who took our order and made our drinks was incredibly rude and visibly hateful. This coffee shop had the most hostile environment. 1. We made a very simple request for drinks and she mumbled her way through our order while rolling her eyes. 2. After she thought we weren’t looking she turned to her coworker to complain about us. 3. Her coworkers stood as we were rudely taken care of. 2/10 thank god I don’t live here
Terrible service. Halfway through taking my order another customer came in who was a regular. The cashier stopped helping me to take his order. Once I had payed she proceeded to ignore us, even though we hadn't received our coffee or pastries. We had to reach across the counter to get a cup for coffee. The pastries tasted like day old gas station pastries, and the lids provided didn't fit the cups. Coffee everywhere. I would have gotten better service at a gas station.
Staff slow, sullen and rude. I've come in a few times a year for several years and every time its been worse than before. I won't be returning. Your staff is ruining the place, if the owners are reading this, you really need to do something about it. It's tanking your business, and after my experience today and talking about it with others at the college, they all agreed with me that its been a problem for awhile.
Makes Subway look good, and I can’t stand subway. I notice the picture shows a folded turkey slice in the photo. Is there a cow shortage because the wafer thin piece of roast beef was mocking me as I owned the sandwich when I got in my car to eat it. My first though was that the place is a tourist trap and 13 dollars for a flat bread sandwich ( the bread was good I give you that but I could buy a loaf of the best gluten free for almost half that price) Not impressed, not a fan, complements to the photographer or who ever staged the photo, I prefer a few folds, not just the one layer. As I ate ( because I was hungry ) I imagined if they make the sandwich that skimpy, how must those poor employees be treated. Just a shared thought! Your welcome BYE!
The food was decent here and the green Apple smoothie was amazing the reason for the low rating is they messed up our order of smoothies (which they fixed) and our food was missing items we ask we asked for but the worse part was the breakfast burrito has potatoes!!! Nowhere in the description does it mention potatoes and I have an allergy!!! I went up and complained and I got laughed at by the staffed when I ordered something different and asked to make sure there wasn't any potatoes in it. Place had nothing but immature teenagers working there after their manager left or whoever he was, he was the only adult there. Didn't appreciated them getting the order wrong twice, the laughing at their customer and the swearing you could clearly hear especially when there are kids around. Edited to a one star our today order was wrong too so that makes 3 times they couldn't get it right sad because the food was pretty decent. I would recommend the cafe across the street instead.
wow.. thought this bakery would be cute but the lady behind the counter was rude. the food is totally not worth the 30 minute wait and the quality is trash.. 15$ sandwich with 2 pieces of bacon on it and hard tomatoes. the breakfast burrito is very bland and very small for the price some gentleman tried telling the older lady behind the counter that they were out of toilet seat covers in the bathroom and she rudely responded that there hasn’t been. very odd response. 0/5 stars
