We went to another favorite local spot for dinner on my trip home, Side Street Inn on Kapahulu Avenue. This place is known for family style restaurant with tasty local cuisine and huge portions. It was just my son and me so all we could handle was the awesome garlic chicken and fried rice, both house specialties. We killed the chicken and barely put a dent in the fried rice even though they were both so good. The prices are in line with portion sizes and quality of food. The restaurant isn’t fancy but it was cozy and a fun environment. We definitely recommend this place if you like good local food and like sharing…. And it’s close to Leonards Bakery for Malasadas after dinner….

When you’re looking for this place, you might be asking yourself: am I in the right spot? House in what looks like an office complex, this spacious restaurant is a fantastic experience . Do not let the sports bar vibe for you. When you order any of their famous dishes: garlic chicken, fried rice, or their pork chop - you will realize why this is a must-visit-place. The portions are simply enormous. The food is very well cooked. And the service is familiar and inviting. I will always eat here when visiting Honolulu. (Attached our photos from before, and after, two adults ate everything they could of the pork chop dish…)

Everyone recommended this place so I wasn't sure it would live up to the hype. So glad I chose to go. I got the Roast Pork Poke and the signature fried rice. Upon arrival at the table, I just knew I made the right choice. The portion size was enormous and the taste was out of this world. What's better is the left overs. Tasted even better the next day (and the next... it was a lot of food).

All the dishes on the menu are meant to be shared. We were a party of 4 and ordered the yakisoba noodles, boneless shortribs and pan fried pork chops. Each dish was large enough to feed 3 to 4, and they were all delicious. W

Great food, we sat at the bar and our server was awesome 👍. We didn't know they had happy hour, so we order from that menu, perfect amount of food for two. We had fried rice, chicken wings and yakisoba very tasty and great prices. You can make reservations.

Come for the delectable, familiar cuisine with a local twist and you'll surely wanna come back to try the other dishes! The servings are impossibly large, except during happy hour when you can try smaller size plates. Luckily, Sunday brunch IS happy hour, so my wife and I ended up sampling plate after plate after plate! The garlic chicken reminded me of the pollo con ajillo dish from one chinese takeout counter in Spanish Harlem in NYC, and their combination fried rice is a must-try!

The food was amazing and I cannot explain how the taste and flavors pop on your palate! Really good customer service, we had Tiffany as our server and she was so amazing recommend the right amounted of food to us. If you have not been here this is a must try place very good local food. The only bad thing is, the only open up at 4:00 p.m. it's a dinner only restaurant. But it's well worth the wait.

A Local Favorite! I absolutely love Side Street Inn. The Kapahulu location has that great, old-school feel that I really like. I've been here countless times, and the food always comes out incredibly fast—it's almost like they knew what I was going to order ahead of time! And the portion sizes are massive. The food, of course, is consistently delicious. You can definitely go with a small group, but it's even more fun to go with a big group so you can try a little bit of everything.

This was by far one of the best meals in the Waikiki area. Perfect for families there were three of us and we had enough food to eat another meal and half. Family style restaurant the garlic chicken is just 👩‍🍳💋 and the fried rice can hold its own. We are thankful for our Lyft driver recommending this place.

Food was delicious. A little on the salty side but nonetheless, very yummy. You don't go for the ambiance. Just good food and friendly service.

The food is excellent. Attentive service. One of the best local style dining serving local flavors. This a good to take your family or visitors. Best for family and group since all the dishes are served family size portions.

Easily the best Fried Chicken I've had in my life. So good my family returned to order some to-go our last night in Oahu. Do yourself a favor and make sure to get at least one order of the Signature Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken. I honestly wished we'd ordered two!

Dinner was served family style, with large servings of fried rice, yakisoba, pork chops, fries chicken, edamame, salad, and beef kalbi--all so tender and delicious, sweet and sour, a wonderful mix of Hawaiian, Japanese, Filipino, and Korean flavors. The dessert menu was delicious. I personally liked the lilikoi creme brulee better than the chocolate brownie sundae but the others in our group disagreed and thought the brownie was best. Among all that meat and all those flavors I would probably want the recipe for the salad the most--it had interesting things like taro chips and had such a light and unique flavor. I'd love to come back for that alone!

Love this place, and come here every year. The chicken, pork chops, and the fried rice are all amazing. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for a great place to feed your family or friends, look no further because if you want a hella amount of meat and carbs you have come to the right place. We ordered the set menu that came with all of their best selling items and we were not disappointed. Portions are huge! The edamame plate is like 3x of any place I have been to before. The fried rice was just massive. The garlic fried chicken was such a joy that I could dip my face in it. The sliced boneless kalbi which I think they are using ribeye was super tasty and paired well with the fried rice. The pork chops were juicy, but I could have used something other than ketchup to dip it in, maybe a sweet Thai chili sauce or even whatever the kalbi was marinated in. I would have liked to try dessert but I left super full and satisfied regardless.

Kristi A. was fantastic, she gave us great recommendations and even better service. Portions here are BIG and full of flavour. Would recommend this place to everyone! 11/10 ✨

This is a restaurant where your eyes can definitely get bigger than your stomach! We had a party of three and none of us have been back since the pandemic, so we ordered our favorites… needless to say that we ordered way too much food! The dishes we ordered were as remembered though and it felt great to devour as much as we could, but in all honesty, the portions were so big that we hardly made a dent. I’d highly recommend this spot, but it’s no dieters paradise, so be prepared to gorge yourself!

This is a great recommendation from Ian Aguinaldo. We selected the Chef Colin's Classics, which included their famous fried chicken, salad, edamame, fried rice, and fried pork chops. In addition, we added their delicious fried fish and sizzling beef ribs. The dinner plates are small to eat from but the waiter accommodated us by providing the large serving plates. Parking is limited in this area so we arrived by Uber. This family-style restaurant is always crowded according to my local cousins, but it is deliciously worth it. 9/11/2024: We came back again and ordered the same things, but included poke as well. Also, we had dessert which included bread, pudding, creme brulee, and vanilla ice cream.

We grabbed a seat at the bar and our waitress was very helpful. Food was delicious, portions were more than enough.

Whether you're a regular or a first timer to Side Street Inn the one thing you'll always remember is the serving sizes. Now with that in mind I always suggest getting the "Chef Colins Classics" set which can comfortably feed 4 people. I've provided photos of all the menu items and I've got to say that the consistency with the flavors of all the food is excellent. There's a lot of televisions broadcasting which ever game of importance at the time and it's says how casual this place is. Side Street Inn is well known as a great watering hole that serves easy to consume items and drinks in a comfortable sometimes loud but easy going environment. Which ever location you decide to go to I do recommend you get a reservation IF possible since there are no slow days or times at Side Street Inn. It is ALWAYS busy and for good reason, so if you've never been to or simply haven't visited in awhile, please do yourselves a favor and come in for some fantastic generous portions of food, have some drinks, and relax with everyone else.

This place offers family-style servings, a large bar, and great food, making it perfect for bringing friends and family. I visited with my church group, and we left with plenty of leftovers. It's also a spot where local chefs like to hang out after work. I highly recommend it.

You want the best of local cuisine, this is the place. The locals love it here. We all know Side Street Inn On Da Strip! It’s a must go to when in Honolulu!

Today was our first time eating dinner here, and it won't be our last. This place has amazing food. The food is family style and a la carte. Huge portions that are sharable with friends or family. It's a little overwhelming if it's just two people, but if you're anything like my wife and I, then you too love leftovers. We ordered the kalbi beef ribs and pork fried rice. The rice plate was so big that we ate ⅓ of it and probably took 3lbs home as leftovers. The ribs are thick and are strongly marinated with a nice char to them. They were a little tough but not bad for thick cut ribs. We also went home with rib leftovers too. ( I like cold ribs in the middle of the night 🤪) We also ordered the potato mac salad. It was thick and creamy with mayo. I personally make the best Mac salad in the world. I owned my own Hawaiian food truck and catering business in Alaska. I personally like to add red onion juice, a little dijon, sugar, and apple cider vinegar to my Mac salad. That being said, I'd give it a solid 6 out of 10 on their Mac salad. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and kept the waters refilled. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken and the porkchops.

Best chicken in the area. Portions are outrageously huge though so be warned! I suggest going with 4 people minimum. Clams and poke were also excellent.

Garlic chicken was bomb!!! Salads were interesting with shrimp, taro chips, avocado all kine hiding in the salad. Fried pork chops were nice. Everything was fresh and tasty. Just be prepared to pay $7 for valet if you can't find street parking. Or get one parking lot next door but not sure how much cost?

The best spot by far. Crazy good local/ fusion food. Honestly just get the deal where you get basically everything. The garlic chicken is so good, the Kalbi is the best I’ve had, and the pork chops are chefs kiss. Fried rice is a yes. The poke is decent, the salad is weirdly really good. If you wanna get diabetes order the peanut butter crunch, unforgettable dessert. I love coming here with my family it’s good vibes. Best to make a reservation, if not there’s always the bar. Food comes out HOT and nobodies waiting for me to take pics so they’re steamy lol.

This is a hidden gem in Kapahulu Ave, in Honolulu. The portions are what you dream of in every restaurant you go to, HUGE. Definitely go when you are very very hungry. Also great for large parties or to take the family. Must get their signature fried rice. We also got the garlic chicken, which is fried to perfection; along with their teriyaki beef, which was juicy and tasty. They also have a great selection of drinks to enjoy. A must go if you are in Honolulu!

This is a dive but it's damn good with great service. The front desk at the hotel recommended & wow. When we pulled up I was in doubt but the food changed my mind. They have a family-style option that maybe the way to go. You can share plates here.

Really wonderful spot with massive portions so it was great for our group of 6. We did the family style menu to share plus a few sides and we had tons leftover. Almost everything had fish or pork so I do not recommend for vegetarians or vegans.

This place is wonderful. HUGE portion sized meals which means this place is the perfect spot for family style eating. Bring a big hungry group and try a little (or a lot) of everything! Make sure to have both of their signature dishes, their fried rice and their garlic fried chicken. They’re the signature dishes for a good reason. Make reservations EARLY or try to walk in, just be prepared to wait for potentially a long time to get in.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night. Restaurant was very busy but they managed to seat us within 30 minutes! Generous portions. The food was great and so were the drinks! I didn't care for the peanut butter brownie dessert. The brownie tasted off itself especially the texture but the entrees made up for that.

Fantastic food and service. This place should be on your list of places to try if visiting Oahu and looking for delicious food at reasonable prices… much better than some of the places you’ll find in Waikiki top 10 places to try type lists. Extra big thank you to our server Kristi, who made us feel welcome, and provided great recommendations!

R

This was a recommendation, and I'm glad we took it. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is casual and great for small to big groups. We did happy hour and the individual portions were still a good size while very affordable. The pork chop was juicy with a delicious crust. And the garlic chicken, while not spicy, it was crispy, juicy, and sweet, and something I highly recommend!

I try to eat here at least once every time I’m in town. The fried rice with lap cheung and the garlic chicken are my go to dishes. The portion of fried rice is enough to feed more than a family of 5. Luckily we have a fridge and microwave at our hotel so all the leftovers won’t go to waste. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the Olympics while we ate. The staff were friendly and helpful. See ya next time! BTW- Parking here is only valet for $8 so plan accordingly

The food is great. Keep in mind that every dish is served family style and the portions are large! Great problem to have because you'll want more later. Signature Fried Rice and Garlic chicken. Servers were friendly and attentive. Good price family friendly atmosphere

Go to happy hours for the smaller portions unless you have a big group. Their regular servings are HUGE! The food was so good! Our favorites were the fried rice, garlic chicken, and the kalbi ribs. The inside reminded me of a bowling alley but who cares? Their food is the focus.

Elevated local style foods in a comfortable updated atmosphere. We had friends visiting from Belgium and wanted to give them a taste of the local flavors. The 5 of us came in on a Monday night. We had the prix fixe menu for $167 (serves 4-5 guests), and the portions were massive. Definitely family-style dining! Everything came out hot, timely, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. Honestly, the prix 4-5 menu could've fed 6-7 people easily. Although we did add the Roast Pork Poke to the order. The famous pan-fried pork chops lived up its long standing reputation . Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside. The pieces with the bone are pure gold!! The roast pork poke was another standout. Tender, rich and awe man sooo satisfying!! Our Belgium friends couldn't get enough. The shoyu citrus vinaigrette added a bright acidity that cut through the beautiful richness of the pork. The kalbi had great char and tenderness, though a bit on the sweet side for my taste. The kimchi fried rice hit the spot with a nice kimchi flavor that was not overpowering and easily enough to feed 7-8 people. The fried chicken could've been a touch crispier, but still packed good flavor. Service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and quick. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, ideal for groups or watching sports with plenty of big TVs. Our long table for five was a bit worn and could use some refinishing, but overall, this was a delicious, satisfying experience. Generous portions, great flavors, and a fun local vibe. Would definitely return with friends or family. Happy Eating!!

The local place with all the good food family style. Order a few plates and feed the whole family. We like the Kimchee fried rice, garlic fried chicken and Teri beef. Always busy to plan ahead. If first time, parking lot is under building with valet and then take elevator to third floor. Aloha!

Today was my first time eating at Side Street Inn. The food was very good, especially the pork chops. If you love desserts try the "Peanut Butter Crunch", it was absolutely delicious.

A perfect place for large family style dinning. The garlic chicken is a must try, but everything we had on the happy hour menu was delicious. Such friendly staff.

Our meal was great! The desserts were a little disappointing. Although, the brownie was on point!

Nice place, kinda crowded, but it's perfect for family get-togethers. Especially for special occasions. Which the family menu is alot of food so if you get that, just be prepared for the amount of food it comes with. There is valet parking for $7.00 cash. And public parking for $4.00 per hour by card.

Side Street Inn is an Oahu classic with huge portions! It has been a few years and I came back to get their famous fried rice and fried pork chops. The waitress reminded us again of the larger than normal options and it for sure was HUGE! I wish we had more people with us so we could have ordered more food to try. We could not finish what we ordered with just us three. We actually took home the pork chops and had them the next morning, cold from the refrigerator. I would definitely recommend this local place!

Big portions and decent prices. Flavors and textures of Proteins are good and salad was tasty not too heavy dressing. Only issue, our server was not friendly nor pleasant; not sure if off day

M

Food here is served family style. We ordered popcorn chicken and fries which was enough for three people. To our surprise the popcorn chicken was dark meat, which was not mentioned anywhere, and just didn't taste good. Fries seemed over cooked and were subpar as well. Service was very good. Would not recommend going here and ordering this.

D

The food was just ok. High end restaurant prices for average food. Our chinese chicken salad was bland - like they forgot the dressing. Fried rice was a huge plate but lacked flavor. Pork chop was dry and served with ketchup. Location was hard to find and you have to park in a paid parking area. Our server was too casual- like service you would get at a food truck. There are better options for traditional Hawaiian food. I would recommend Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill - night and day difference

Recommended by the locals of Hawaii. They are family size portions, which means the dishes are large enough to share between 4-5 people. Our waitress recommended the Chef Colin’s Classic, which includes the restaurants most famous dishes. Since we were a larger party, we ordered the classic and some smaller dishes to accommodate my party. I think the only plates we cleared off were the fried rice, the Yakisoba, the fried chicken, and the salad. The pork chop was good when it first came out. It wasn’t over cooked and dried like some pork chops can be but over time as it got cooler, didn’t taste the same. The kalbi was just ok as well as the teriyaki beef. I thought the teriyaki beef was a little too much on the sweet side. Most of the dishes were either too salty, or too sweet. The balance in taste was never just right. The service was just mediocre. I know it is troublesome serving a large party my size but I felt our waitress lacked motivation and customer service skills. That’s just my opinion though. I mean, we really tried to not bother her as she has other tables to serve. The price for the bill for a party of 10 came up to approximately $350. It’s pricey for food I thought tasted better elsewhere. I would probably visit other places around Hawaii if you are willing to commute.
