We had lunch at Amuse and it was absolutely delightful from start to finish. The Aberdeenshire sirloin roast beef was exceptional. Tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly, with all the trimmings executed beautifully. The starters were equally impressive. The strozzapeti with venison ragu was rich and full of flavour, and the salt and pepper shimeiji mushrooms were a real highlight. Served in a light tempura style batter, they were crisp, full of taste, and not greasy at all. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a lovely separate bar area that is ideal for enjoying a drink. The wine list is impressive and very well considered. The service deserves special mention. The staff were genuinely welcoming, friendly, and attentive without ever being intrusive. The balance between price and quality is excellent, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. A total recommendation when visiting Aberdeen.
We went for the six course taster. Was a great experience and loved every dish that was served. The chef managed to alter the ingredients for my partner who is gluten intolerant. Everyone went home with happy tummys...
I really enjoyed the starters and will 100% be returning for the lobster dish. The lobster farfalle sauce was a stunning and rich bisque sauce which I scooped up with the sourdough. The scallop starter was my second favourite. I had the soufflé for main course which was little underwhelming and too salty. The bread was perfect and soft with a little hint of sweetness. Overall I found the food quite salty but the service and the curation of dishes were extremely well done. I can’t wait to go back and eat more of the menu and try my hand at some of the desserts!
Based on my visit the restaurant definitely deserves its Michelin mention. Had the chance to try the soup, lobster, deer and chocolate desert together with the wine pairing. The total was 155£, which one should expect as a standard price for this type of experience. The sommelier was a lovely lady who explained all the wines and the pairing was always spot-on. For the food, the only downsides were that the lobster sauce could be probably a bit less intense to allow the lobster itself to shine more and the cabbage truffle for the deer is a bit difficult cut properly, but at this point you can tell I am nitpicking. The restaurant is definitely 4.8-4.9 place.
Nice food and atmosphere. Waiters made me feel at ease. The Bourguigon sauce and spinach that came with the beef was quite salty. Other than that, everything tasted nice. I’m especially impressed by the cocktail! It’s unlike anything I had drank before and it’s delicious!
I had a lovely meal at Amuse tonight. I went for the tasting menu. I enjoyed every course served 😋 Service was fantastic 👏 Definitely recommend Amuse for a special occasion.
Went for the Sunday roast after seeing Kevin feature on the TV program 'Great British Menu'. The food was delicious and plentiful, we all left feeling full and satisfied. Perfectly cooked meat, veg, and I had a fish based starter which was fresh. The waitress / sommelier had some excellent recommendations for wine and made sure our table was kept well throughout the dining experience. We will be back to try their other menus!
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Amuse. Our server was lovely and polite, efficient and attentive. For starters, we enjoyed chicken liver parfait - smooth like butter, light and flavourful and paired with mango chutney - delicious! The other starter we had was the pasta dish - full of flavour, perfectly cooked. For main we enjoyed beef cheeks - tender and fall apart, served with creamy and rich mash and selection of vegetables. Absolutely delicious! Our second main was steak au poivre - beef was so tender and fall apart, and the sauce was outstanding. Rich, velvety and concentrated. Definitely an amazing experience, and if we ever come to Aberdeen again, we will be back!
What a wonderful dining experience. Used a birthday voucher to have Sunday lunch which could not be faulted. Staff were professional and attentive and the restaurant had a cosy peaceful atmosphere. The food was lovely with excellent flavour profiles. The venison ragu tasted fantastic and the roast beef was melt in the mouth with a rich red wine gravy. Presentation of food was beautiful. Mocktails 🍸 just a treat. Who could ask for more. I'll definitely be back to experience more.
Great service from Nicola. Only minor point as a solo diner was shown a table by the door initially even though restaurant only had three tables in. On request I asked to relocate and this was arranged swiftly. Nice choice of non alcoholic wines which was refreshing. Fresh and tasty food. Will return.
We tried to book a table for 8 pm a day in advance but ended up calling and securing a table for 8:30 pm. When we arrived a quarter of an hour early, a polite waiter warmly welcomed us. Our table, located by the window, provided a view of the frozen plants outside struggling for survival. We were presented with still bottled water from Deeside, and the menu was tempting. We opted for the six-course tasting menu with the sommelier's wine pairings. Beautiful amuses started our meal. We had to order a glass of Taittinger since the first amuse was not paired. The first amuse was a shimeji mushroom delight, followed by pumpkin and parmesan. A South African Cinsault paired wonderfully with the flavorful beef tartare. Next came the bread and butter; the crust was crispy, and the taste was plain. The strozzapreti in double chicken stock with truffles and parmesan was rich in taste and matched perfectly with the South Italian red wine from Calabria. The New Zealand Chardonnay was also quite special, elevating the salmon dish beyond imagination. The gentle smokiness of the salmon, combined with the rich sauce and the acidity of the cured cucumber, exceeded my wildest expectations. The roe deer was divine, with textures and flavors creating a culinary symphony, complemented by an amazing Portuguese Douro wine. The cheesecake was an explosion of flavor, and the South African dessert wine was equally good, owing to its quality and complexity. Thank you, Kevin, for a fantastic evening. We truly appreciate the effort you and your outstanding team have put into the menu, the wine selection, and the service. Thank you once again for an incredible experience. We will definitely be back.
✅️ Super ambience with soft music 🎶 playing in the background! ✅️ Very friendly and discreet service! ✅️ Crab 🦀 appetiser which was super tasty! ✅️ Sole fillet with the right cooking (super juicy)! 🍹Elderflower cocktail is a must! 🙌🏻💫
Enjoyed a really lovely meal here for restaurant week! The servers were all attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and all the flavours completed each other really well. The place had a great atmosphere and was cozy and welcoming :) hope to be back soon!
One of the best places to eat in Aberdeen. Has contemporary takes on Scottish cuisine, friendly and efficient service. Food both very well made with excellent ingredients and presented well.
If I could give 10 stars for this restaurant I would! Absolutely wonderful - food, atmosphere, service, you really get what you pay for! Absolutely fell in love with the deep shell inspired plates, I wish I knew where I can get some for home. I will be recommending to friends and would definitely return!
40th bday in the private raised area.... perfect!!! Jack, you took alot from us and we thank you for everything. Your service was impeccable, non intrusive, professional but you certainly had the, and could take the, banter!!! As they say.... a picture tastes a thousands bites.... or something like that!!
Pawel our host/ waiter looked after us very well really nice guy and great knowledge. Lovely guy great job. The mix of flavours and choice of ingredients was top drawer. One comment not against my experience tonight but in general- if you are running a good restaurant don't offer Nespresso coffee. That's my only tiny criticism (and I didn't order coffee) fantastic dining
There is nothing like this in Aberdeen. Super laid back atmosphere, yet with a great buzz about it. Staff super attentive and friendly - a breath of fresh air to be honest. As for the food, simply superb!! Beetroot starter to send the taste buds spiralling; unusual, yet spectacular, langoustine with curry sauce; then onto a t-rex sized flavoursome monkfish tail dish that has already been all over social media and finished off with an OMG chocolate mousse (half thought of taking the bowl home to lick clean!).
A warm welcome from staff and quickly seated with water and menus. Food was amazing and service was fast. I highly recommend the lamb. A really lovely place for lunch. Will definitely be back.
Gorgeous cuisine and chill jazz ambience at Amuse. Enjoyed the Snug prior to our meal, and loved our fine dining date night!
The food here was insanely nice! The decor and the atmosphere are lovely. If we are ever in Aberdeen again we will be sure to come back to Amuse.
Fabulous! Enjoyed every single thing on the Sunday Lunch menu but the chicken liver starter was the most excellent choice
Lovely food. Excellent quality. Set lunch is fantastic value. Staff lovely.
From start to finish we had a great evening....dogs included. The food was sensational and the service was spot on. An added bonus with Kevin coming to say hello. This is exactly what Aberdeen needed. Can't wait to go back !
Superb experience, lovely surroundings, combined with good service and fantastic food, easily the best restaurant in Aberdeen.
Took my mother in law there for her birthday. Had all 3 courses. Walked in to a warm welcome. Its decorated beautifully. I had venison ragu to start, mother in law had cheese souffle and my husband crab. Really good sized portions & absolutely delicious. All 3 of us had the roast beef which was melt in your mouth & the trimmings so nice! For pudding we had tracke tart, ice cream with sherry & cheesecake. We had a lovely afternoon. Definately recommend
One of the best Sunday lunches of my life. We were so well looked after by the whole team and every dish was perfectly cooked and presented. Outstanding! Thank you all.
Wonderful place. Lily and Staph were great hosts. The duck and monkfish are 5 stars.
I was in their establishment Friday the 10th, the restaurant was very quiet, which I liked, we were two colleagues, had a beverage in the bar and decided to order their full automnal experience menu which was delightful. We had the canapés in the bar and then were directed for the dining room by our very gentle and well spoken server, I cannot remember her name, but she was blonde, her service was excellent and she was very knowledgeable. We opted for the French wine pairing and had another bottle at the end of the night which was quite nice. All together a very good experience. The food, extras, pairing and service were all well priced at about £900 for the two of us. Will most certainly be back! So great to have such a fine dining experience in Aberdeen!
Great place lovely atmosphere. staff were very helpful and informative. Lunch was delicious. We will definitely be back
Excellent meal tonight @Amuse , first class service and first class food .. There's a tasting menu at a set price which offers 5 or 6 courses or choose off the a la carte menu to suit your own individual taste .. Thoroughly recommend the Pigeon dish from the first course menu and the Roe deer from the main , both options were of exceptional quality ,perfectly cooked, full of flavour and presented beautifully... Hats off to all the team for a very enjoyable evening .
Arriving at Amuse, as expected... warm welcome and swiftly taken to the table with drinks and specials of the day. Sitting at the back window no issue to me but the sky light needs addressing, also probably best to close the back blinds where the chiller is where you see staff dashing for bottles. Food - flavour was bang on, gnocchetti... oh my days... don't know if I'm bias but that's exactly what the taste buds need! Presentation - dishes were displayed lovely, there was one dish I personally received which was dirty, didn't stop me eating but mentioned to service staff with the note of don't worry, make sure for future guests who may cause a scene! Overall, loved the food!!
A welcome to fine dining in Aberdeen. I went on a Tuesday evening to celebrate a friend's birthday..it was relatively quiet and no pressure to hurry our drinks at the bar nor during the meal. Now to the important matters..the food. I chose the Monk fish...tastey but a bit disappointed with the portion size of the Monk fish..one of the smallest I have been served. The dessert.. chocolate mouse+ was amazing. My friend ordered the Mushroom Kiev as the mains and pavlova for dessert and relished both. .
Everything perfect apart from the price of the wine. Delicious New Zealand sauvignon blanc, but ridiculous price - £37.50 for a 375cl carafe, just over half a bottle. I would expect a bottle for that price. Unless the price is reduced realistically, I will not be back. Shame as everything else was excellent.
The food is generally exceptional. No course or option will ever be poor, some might not be to all tastes but you cannot question the quality. The Roe Deer was unbelievable! I could that dish every day. Pricing a little on the high side on some courses, more so the starters etc than the mains. Staff are super friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Felt some of the basics around time keeping, being prepared and general ‘slickness’ wasn’t quite up there with the best restaurants. That’s a minor point though, on the whole this is a very good high end restaurant. The food is the main reason to go. Would go back but only for special occasions asked on the prices.
A little disappointed. This place has all the trappings of fine dining but didn't quite deliver as hoped. Some mishaps in service. And the food was fine dining quality but kind of boring, like what I'd have expected in any fancy restaurant anywhere in the last 30 years. Nothing was bad exactly, and it is a very good option for Aberdeen, but it was not exciting.
Went to amuse for an anniversary dinner on a Tuesday. Found the food to be delicious in taste but the position size to be rather small considering the price. The staff were knowledgable and made an exceptional choice from an extensive wine list, although wine topping up could be better. Other than that the dinner was wonderful and will certainly be back to try the new seasonal menu. Everything was clean and well kept. Thank you !
Dined at Amuse on a sunday for the sunday roast! The customer service is top notch! I felt let down by some of the food aspects tho! I had the soup to start, leek and potato which was delicious but i think it needs to come with a side of crusty bread and butter! For the main i had the beef, which was delicious, although my yorkshire pudding was over cooked, also they gave us one bowl of cauliflower cheese and one bowl of roast potatoes, this was to suit 3 adults, Im not sure why they did that instead of either seperate bowls per person or just putting it on the plate. I asked for more roast potatoes as i knew it wouldnt be enough but got given completely different potatoes which werent roasties but instead skin on potatoes which seem to have been boiled and very quickly roasted. I also asked for extra gravy which sadly was very salty! No real flavour just a salty taste that was quite unpleasant. For dessert i had the creme caramel pudding which came and tasted delicious but the presentation was very dissapointing, it had obviously broken from the mould when placed on the plate, id have expected better from a restautant which screams high quality and the chefs to re-do it. All in all the service was top notch and they did an amazing job on that front but the food wasnt any thing i would scream about except the soup that was AMAZING.
A bit underwhelming. Had an afternoon to fill and found this restaurant online. We went for Sunday lunch. We had a warm greeting as we entered and were taken to the mezzanine area at the back. Had a wine order taken and received our wine. We then waited for a short while discussing if we were getting to choose off a menu for food, just getting what we were given or if they would eventually bring a menu. This was not communicated. Eventually someone brought us menus. We selected what we wanted and the waiter came over and asked if we were ready to order desserts. Can we have started and mains first? lol. Starters came. Parfait was very nice. Very smooth and a big portion. Crab and Crumpets was actually Crab and Crumpet. Singular. Small. But was ok. Crispy sole was nice but really just a posh fish finger with a bland watery sauce. And bought in chips. Roast beef was quite fatty. And about half was left. Was going to order the chocolate brownie but as we were a bit underwhelmed with a lot of other stuff we decided not to and asked for the bill. Which was wrong. Had to get the waiter to amend it as he was ready with the card machine to charge us too much. Eventually got it sorted. It is a 2/3 course set Sunday lunch menu they do but maybe that’s where the scrimped on quality. Maybe and evening A La Carte would be better. Service was friendly. Decor was nice. Nice artwork. No Amuse-Bouche. Weird.
The below review was written last week, and I’m now happy to say that the over charge was reimburses in full: Food was honestly out of this world, but unfortunately the service really let it down. I actually tried to cancel the table but was told that they had staffed up to take our table, but we waited forever for our mains to come and despite asking for a drinks order then we waited another 30 minutes without drinks; meaning we didn’t have a drink with our mains. We were then charged £200 for service, plus additional bottles of wine added to the bill. This was only discovered once we got home out of the country. As I said the food was simply gorgeous!
Booked a table during Restaurant Week to celebrate my friend’s big birthday. My first visit, but I won’t be back. Table was beside kitchen door and understairs store cupboard, which was accessed several times. My food was nice, but my friend’s main was under seasoned. She had to request salt and pepper. Out £70 bottle of Chablis was nice. The menu states that the 12.5 % service charge is discretionary. We requested this charge to be removed, as prefer to leave our own tip. This did not go down well. We were definitely whispered about by the staff, who were unaware that a tip had been left.
Experienced Amuse for the first time at the weekend. I was a bit disappointed by my experience. Our table was booked for 7:30pm, we sat and had a cocktail and ordered a starter, fish course, and a main. The cocktails were amazing. The starter came pretty quickly and followed by the fish course. We then had an 1hr 15 minute wait and didn't get our main course until 9:30pm. The waitress came with a complementary glass of fizz for our wait, however as it had been 2 hours we were almost finished our bottle of wine. It would have been nice to have been asked what we would have liked to drink to complement the main. We were then given the bill which had a £25 service charge on it, the waitress told us that she had thought about taking it off due to our poor service but didn't... The food was nice, only criticism is the main I had to wait ages for was lacking seasoning.
TL;DR Sadly would not recommend Came to dine at Amuse and was disappointed by the food overall, the starters were lovely (would absolutely recommend the pork) but the fish course was disappointing, my partners scallop wasnt cooked, and had only seen a pan on one side, when it was taken away to be "cooked longer" the same scallop that had been cut into was given back, after being tossed about in a pan for a few more minutes. It was chewy and lacked any care. Because of this it was difficult for us to tell if it was bad scallop or bad cooking. On to the mains, my monkfish was delicious and again I'd highly recommend, however the sirloin steak was awful, only cooked one way, seared on both sides, sliced in half, and the rested as long as it took to walk from the kitchen to the table. Not one for leaving negative reviews, but my partner contacted them through their site to leave our feedback to no response, so here we are.
Had birthday meal with my wife this week. Enjoyed the bread, soup and starter. My main course was cold which I returned. My wife’s fish curry was so salty, it was almost unpalatable. The rice pudding had no flavour. A tin of ambrosia is better. The music was really loud and when we were the only guests in at 6pm we asked for it to be turned down. It wasn’t until more guests arrived. The waiting staff seemed rushed. One toilet did not have a light working. Really poor standard levels if this is Michelin standard. On arrival of £225 bill I asked for some dispensation for cold main. The waiter then had to go into the kitchen and eventually came back. He said the chef said to take off a bottle of water!
Overpriced menu for undercooked food. As a chef of this restaurant you’d expect one to ensure plates come back empty and question the ones with entire food left - not the case. You like it or not, they don’t care why, give you the bill and thanks for coming. Place is great though and beer was good, we were there with friends and this made the experience better.
Rather disappointed with our experience at this restaurant unfortunately, the food was OK at best..... there are certainly far superior restaurants in Aberdeen giving far more bang for your buck. The plates look good, which you would expect for what you are paying, however, fairly bland and actually not much of anything 😳 We visit Aberdeen roughly 4 to 5 times per year and have eaten in lots of places and we really looked forward to this but all in all we have to say it was such a let down. Staff were decent enough, didn't have any of the wine we ordered so they recommended an alternative then had to change our wine for us as we had cork floating about our glasses, no big deal but the whole shenanigans took half an hour to get us a glass of wine. Scallop well overcooked, tartare decent but ponzu far too sharp. Duck too rare and obviously too cold due to this, Monkfish bland and the sautéed spinach was still soaked causing a puddle on my plate in turn diluting the peppercorn sauce to a thin watery gravy, the spoonful of smoked butter pomme mousseline was nice.
I cannot in good conscience support this restaurant. The issue is the owner and chef’s behaviour outside the kitchen. This week, it became public record that he pleaded guilty to a hate crime (search google and P&J news), which raises serious concerns about his values and how he treats people. Dining out should feel welcoming and safe, and knowing this history makes it impossible for me to recommend this establishment. Support other local businesses. The owner needs to have actual consequences for his behaviour.
Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Over priced, incredibly pretentious, Over salted food!!! I've been to Michelin stared restaurants with bigger portions (ie the kitchin by tom kitchin) and obviously better quality food. £36 for lobster pasta with 2 tiny and i mean tiny pieces of lobster in an over reduced bitter bisque was gready and poorly executed! for the main was duck, the rubbery duck skin on my main was a joke un-rendered duck fat left the thing un edible then there was my wifes soufflet had the cardnal sin of being over salted. There were many other small things wrong with our experience but only highlighted the main things. This whole meal was a joke no wonder the place was dead! Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! As you can tell i won't be returning. The meal came to over £240 for 2 people.
Went for Michelin star restaurant for romantic birthday dinner Had sparkling water, take a sip found few lemon seeds in my mouth and also in the water glass. The other glass was no seeds. Told the waitress and she goes “oh” and took away, bartender came with a new glass and it look no any left over object from last user. Ordered two signature menu. Food are over seasoned. Too salty. Heard the group of table people were saying the same to waitress. Saying all is too salty to eat and won’t come back again. That whole dinning experience cost £270 and surely will not go back
The chef is not even a beginner. The starter was a slice of beetroot and some sauce, then some unimpressive grain and cheese followed by a cheesecake. The price is around £600 for three people. It was such a waste of money. The turkey was just a few slices with overcooked poor quality veg. Total disaster and not to be called a restaurant.
