This place is always clean and has the best service in town when I was there , highly recommended to anyone traveling through the area great food lots of fun
This place is amazing. The hostess, Victoria, managed to get us in on Valentine's Evening without a reservation. They make good food and even better service thanks to Skywin!
We enjoyed a great late lunch/early dinner with my family. Everyone loved what they ordered. Portion size was just right and service was efficient and friendly. Very glad we picked this place for our celebration!
Great atmosphere, beautiful patio, and delicious food! No pics, I wolfed it down too fast, but here’s how the patio will make you feel 😆 The spinach dip and the barrel burger were super yummy, but my favorite was Hannah’s new seasonal Brazilian Coffee drink. And speaking of Hannah, her service was the highlight of the whole experience! Thanks for making us feel so welcome! We’ll definitely come back.
It was an excellent graduation dinner. Server, Paris was on her game dealing with me. The kitchen slipped up with the frozen butter that wouldn't melt, on the rib eye?
I've come here twice and it's been great both times. My gf likes it too. The workers are very kind and friendly. They interact with us well and share laughs with the tables. They are pretty quick on their feet and will check up on you just the right amount. The food is really good all around. The price is very well suited for this place.
Great food and really nice beer selection. We had a group of 4 that went in before the Wazzu- Washington mbb game and had a fantastic experience. The food was really good and the service was just as good, if not better. Loved the pretzel appetizer and my shrimp po boy. Nice pricing at happy hour. Highly recommend and look forward to going back again.
Caitlin was an excellent server! Highly recommend Deb’s wings, meaty and excellent dry rub. Ruby’s beef short ribs were also excellent. Will definitely come back the next time I’m in Pullman.
Nice whiskey choices, excellent food & service. This place is a gem and will now be on our stop when passing through.
Always awesome!! Family of 4 two young kids, staff is always great!! Food awesome!! We eat there multiple times a month. The learns our names and our kids name. It is our go to spot in Pullman.
If we could give 10 stars we would. I got the golden apple cougar burger and my wife got the cougar burger with bacon and it was the best burger we have ever had. The flavor combo was incredible, the ingredients were fresh and the presentation simple so the food speaks for itself. The service was great and their strawberry virgin mojito was delicious! We will be coming back as often as we can even though we live 3 hours away.
Holy moly!!! Had to come back and update my already 5 star review from a year+ ago. We go often, but my birthday dinner May 2025 was spectacular and brought a tear to my eye! LOL The cocktails were divine! The pickpocket and The Bradbury. Pickpocket was sTrOnG! and yet so soft with a light cinnamon finish. Bradbury was perfect and already dreaming of the next one on a hot summer day! Lemon was refreshing, the cherry a sweet afterthought. Both drinks beautiful to look at. We then had to try The last Paige (if not for the beautifully written description alone!) and are so glad we did! What a wonderful walk through so many different flavors that come together for a tart, sweet, fruity experience. It took me to a core memory of feeling carefree...happy - what a fun, thoughtful, adventurous cocktail! The best for last... Lime in the Coconut !! Reading the description I remembered my mom drinking her white, frothy, creamy, pina coladas at the neighborhoods annual Memorial Day party, and I needed to have it! However, I missed the subtle hints in the description that this wasn't my mamas drink! ha! Most of the flavor was from the smooth Cazadores Blanco tequila and blood orange liqueur, the coconut was such a soft finish, but the drink was still so white, frothy and creeeeamy, but not in the heavy, overly sweet, sugar rush drink of the past kind of way. I teared up. It was a joyous drink. Sounds, silly - but there was no way not to smile while drinking this delicious soft, smooth take of a margarita! THANK YOU Rigean for creating such a bright libation!! Started with the Poutine and asked for a box asap so we could relive that poutine power feeling with leftovers in the airfryer. Seriously, just get it to go and thank us later. Weekly special Curry Burger - ffs, give me that curry aioli sauce in a pool and a dump truck of their fries and leave me alone for the summer!! The burger patty was delicious with the red curry mixed in and the tomatoes and fixins' made it what I was a craving, a burger! Partner got the Bacon Gouda Burger, and again, perfection on hitting the burger craving while giving us some upscale'ness with those perfectly carmalized onions and red peppers! *chefs kiss* Thanks, Birch for making my birthday great and making me happy I Ieft the house after a long day/week at work, when I just wanted to sit on the couch and rot. A well needed reminder to get outside and get inspired with great atmosphere, drinks, staff and food!! :)
Very cute restaurant! Came here for dinner and was thrilled with the gluten free options they had and really enjoyed the burger and soup I had! My husband loved the prime rib dip. Our server Jordan was very attentive and so friendly!
We did dine in. I'm so full. Each family member had a different item. All was sooo good. Family environment. If you are looking for quiet it's not here. But this was a great place to eat. Great service. I would go back to try other dishes.
Wonderful server in the bar. Great service, great food! 10 outta 10! We'll be back!
Absolutely no complaints. Best restaurant that we’ve been to in forever. Our server Reegan was great and the whole experience was perfect. Will be back!
This place is one of my favorite places in Pullman. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is my go-to. The specialty drinks are amazing. It has a rustic atmosphere that I love. If you can go in the late spring, summer, or early fall and can get outdoor seating it's even better.
Great food and service. Went in for lunch with some friends and the place had a nice mellow vibe on a weekday. We stayed for quite some time and were never rushed. The food was delicious! I have celiac and they have many options on the menu, plus they went beyond that and got creative to create a yummy dish to meet my dietary restrictions (which doesn't happen as often as you would think). Good portions and fair prices.
I have had the lobster Mac 3 times, and it's a treat every time I visit. Everyone was satisfied with their food and drinks. I wish they had more variety for their desserts, but this isn't a deal breaker when the rest of the food is so good.
This place is amazing. I had the Lobster Mac and Cheese with Cougar Cheese. So many great flavors it was a taste sensation like I've never experienced. The service was extremely good and fun. The waiter caught me singing to the overhead music as it was a great song and he started singing into a fake microphone. So funny. The price was also very reasonable. I live 3 hours away and I am considering going back again soon just because it was so amazing and I'd like to try some of the other things on the menu.
The food was amazing and they had a very nice range of options! Also, our waitress was amazing and would ensure to check up on us just enough that we didn't feel like she was constantly around, nor did we have to wave her down. It's all in all an amazing place and will definitely go back.
Great waitress & delicious food (I had the dry rub wings, wife had grill cheese and tomato soup). Dog friendly patio. A great place
Wonderful food, great service, and a nice place to relax! They use local food and the quality shows. Delicious vegetarian options too!
My absolute favorite place to enjoy a glass of wine with my girlfriends in the summer time, can't wait for the weather to improve so we can meet up here again!!
Ate there twice over the weekend. Definitely one of the best restaurants in all of Pullman. Had boneless sweet, chili curry wings... amazing! Then went back and had the Abby chicken sandwich with a well-appointed bloody Mary. Our server was Erin for both meals and her service was top-notch with a balance of friendly and professional
This place is always busy and I understand why. The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by a welcoming atmosphere and smiles all around. Service staff are genuine and knowledgeable about drinks, food, and whatever seasonal specials are running. Food came out fast and was beautifully plated. Didn't get any photos as I was indulging on a delicious skirt steak sandwich for lunch. I highly recommend this spot to everyone unsolicited.
We had an incredible dinner here. From the moment you walk in the staff are super friendly and attentive. They have that kind of crushed ice my daughter loves in the water and lemonade. Our meals were great. My primary dip with melted cheese on it was one the best I've ever had. And even though we all swore we had no more room left, we decimated the vanilla bean cheesecake!
The salmon is cooked to perfection and all their flavor combos are amazing. Food came quick for being so busy.
Great service and even better food and drinks. Best pretzel appetizers I have ever had.
Yum!!! I ordered the gumbo and it was delicious! What a fun place to try some new fare or just something different than the usual food offered in the area. However, if you prefer the usual food - the burger was huge and amazing too! Birch and Barley is a great place for both adventurous taste buds and those seeking the usual.
I couldn't wait to write this review. We are still here finishing our drinks. HOLY CRAP THIS PLACE IS A MUST. From the EXCELLENT drink, to the birch pretzels appetizers. I was hooked at that point. Then the menu has too many awesome things to try. Our entrees were PHENOMENAL. We will definitely be back to try something else.
Always a great time at Birch and Barley! Incredible Shrimp Etouffee!
This is our go-to restaurant in Pullman! The atmosphere is great. The service is great! And the food is consistent and wonderful. The mushroom chicken is simple, but always executed perfectly. I really enjoy a place that can consistently cook the dishes I prefer to perfection. We are never disappointed.
Great BD dinner for our Daughter was amazing
The food was delicious! We had been on the road all day, and they accommodated me with a steak Caesar salad that was amazing. My daughter had the salmon salad and loved it. My husband had the French dip and was crazy about it. Or maybe he's just crazy. Regardless, it was delicious!
Excellent service and food. Crab cakes for a starter were delicious and mostly crab ...not alot of filler. Catfish poboy as a wrap was yummy. Chicken and asparagus pasta could be enough for 2 people and was very tasty. They have a very deep list of whiskeys and Scotch if you are so inclined. Great date night dinner!
Excellent food with vegetarian/pescetarian options. Great selection of drinks as well. The service was friendly and prompt. Finally, excellent dessert. Highly recommended.
If you are looking for excellent classic American food, this is your place. And don't let "American food" fool you, this place serves the best of the best of classic comfort food: perfect cocktails, pasta, steak, chicken dishes, soups to comfort your soul... This place has a little bit of everything for everyone. On top of that, the staff is some of the best I have interacted with in a very long time. They're honest and kind and genuine. I cannot recommend this place enough.
This place is awesome. Great food, amazing servers. We were here for pickle week. Wish we could have tried all of them. Dill pickle soup, dill pickle margaritas, dill pickle cake, just to name a few.
The Bayou Catfish my wife and I had last night may have been the best restaurant meal we have had in years. The andouille cream sauce over the huge and perfectly grilled catfish filet was delicious. The service is always great, in spite of it usually being insanely busy.
One of our favorite spots in Pullman. Pub food, but slightly elevated. Great crafted cocktails that are created by the staff and rotate seasonally. They have a pretty reasonable bourbon selection as well. Wait staff is super friendly and accommodating. The food mostly has a southern twist, but with local ingredients. Portions are quite large. Atmosphere is spacious and a bit echoey in the dining room. A separate bar area has a couple of tvs with bar seating and high tops as well. Overall a great experience, with yummy food!
We are from out of town and drive 7 hours to bring one of our 2 dogs to WSU vet hospital in the morning. The waitresses and hostess were lovely. We sat outside so we could have our dogs with us. Our youngest dog is very enthusiastic and friendly. All the employees were very friendly towards ours dogs (us too, lol) and some even came out just to say hello to our girls. Very sweet and attentive. Thank you.
Grace was our server. She was great....great service great food....the place is old school home town feeling 😀
Three new Coug Moms exploring Pullman and we came across this restaurant. It was amazing! The vibe, food, and drinks were wonderful! But the warm welcome and awesome, personable service we received from Mary brought us back a 2nd time before we headed home. She even stopped to say hi when she saw us on the patio! We're already planning on taking the husbands for move in weekend. Can't wait to work out way through the whole menu over the times we visit!
Great place if you or your partner has celiac or a gluten intolerance. They have a separate gluten free menu and lots of different options. Waitress was very knowledgeable about their gluten free menu and made sure to let the kitchen know. Reasonably priced for the quality of food and service. Definitely a great place to have a more fancier dinner on the palouse. Will definitely be coming back!
I love this restaurant. It's super close to the airport. The service was great and the staff was so friendly. I had the grilled salmon salad. My salmon was cooked perfectly. The dressing added great flavor. This dish was absolutely amazing and would recommend it over and over. The restaurant was not bad priced and the quality and portion size was good.
Great place. Service was top notch. Cute lightly rustic cabin feel. Cougar Gold Lobster Mac and Tomato Bisque was great. Good beer list too.
The only place we consistently go in Pullman is Birch & Barley. And that’s saying something, because this town hands out five-star reviews like participation trophies. Most restaurants deserve three stars at best, because most Americans don’t really know what they’re eating anymore. It all tastes the same for a reason, it’s coming off the same SYSCO truck. Think about it. Have you ever had a fried cheese stick that truly blew your mind? Of course not. They’re engineered to be identical, shelf-stable, and forgettable. That’s the goal. Birch & Barley feels like the exception. I don’t know how much, if anything, they pull off a food-service truck, but whatever they’re doing, it doesn’t eat like it. The food is consistently good, and more importantly, it tastes intentional. What really sets them apart is the Cajun side of the menu. The “Rajun Cajun” pasta is a perfect example. It’s seasoned, not hot, more restrained, almost French in approach, not the heavy, gloppy, over-rich mess you usually get when pasta is mass-produced. Gumbo, étouffée shrimp/crawfish, and other are the dishes that push Birch & Barley over the top, not just in Pullman but in the entire Inland Northwest. Honestly, where else around here can you even find multiple Cajun dishes done right? Add to that consistently good service and a staff that actually greets you when you walk in the door, and you’ve got a place that earns its reputation rather than buying it in bulk. Birch & Barley isn’t just another five-star food rating it’s one of the few that actually deserves the rating.
My friend and I came here to have a nice evening chatting meal and we were so delighted by your Server Mia. She was so lovely and had so much knowledge about your menu (my friend had some food restrictions). She was so thoughtful and sweet and we just wanted to highlight her for her great attitude, kindness, knowledge, and overall thoughtfulness! Shes a rock star, I hope you guys cherish her!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. My Old Fashioned was spectacular and the Bayou Catfish was out of this world! The mussels appetizer was also top tier. Highly recommend this place.
We had an amazing lunch today! The menu was fun to look through and the different flavor options were great. Our party had a steak sandwich, a couple hamburgers, and the fried chicken sandwich and it was all delicious!! Our server, Taylor, was very patient and friendly. She provided excellent service, checking in frequently and refilling drinks before we even had to ask. We will definitely be back!
The short ribs here are absolutely divine!! 10/10 Best thing in the menu Super tender and fall of the bone Also strongly recommend getting the pretzels here 10/10 Super soft and delicious starter! The hummus and bread was mediocre 3/10 Poutine 9/10… can use more gravy The cocktails here are delicious as well but are extremely light Strongly recommend the espresso martini or seasonal pumpkin martini The blackberry martini mocktail is delicious as well! (Can be made strawberry as well) The etuffee is a 5/10 Nothing really special and a bit too salty It is spicy for people that like that Comes with rice and side of bread The lobster Mac and cheese is recommended by many people but felt overrated 6/10 But the cougar Mac & cheese is what’s good
The food was phenomenal, catfish Po-boy in the PNW? Yep, spicy and delectable, Cougar Gold Lobster Mac, seriously so delicious. Soup of the day, tortilla was one of the best I've had! Winter 75 cocktail fun, fancy and good. Pretty place anticipate some stairs but some seating main floor. Good parking. Waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Strongly recommend!
Fairly limited menu, but the food was pretty good. Had a wonderful server. My salmon was fantastic and my friend enjoyed his meal as well.
The food was excellent. We did eat in the bar side and the service was a little slow and it felt a little dirty or dated in there. But I would definitely eat there again. Great variety on the menu and salads were really big!
Ordered a blue cheese steak tonight Would have been better if toppings were t solid objects but hot melted goo. 2nd worst steak I've had. We have visited for years and always good
We had Deb’s wings, ribeye and lobster mac and cheese. The wings were excellent, really nice quality and tasty. The steaks were okay, they tasted great but were a little in the tough side. The two people that had the mac and cheese loved it. Everyone raves about the Bloody Marys, need to try those next time! The wait staff was very friendly and attentive too.
This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and nice servers. The cocktails were excellent. My wife had the Grapefruit Mule and it was a fun take on the classic Moscow Mule. She also had the Shrimp and Asparagus Pasta and really liked it. I had the Sirloin Steak Combo with roasted potatoes and the seasonal vegetables. I ordered the steak medium rare and stressed closer to rare than medium. However, the steak was served medium. I wasn't too happy about it, but a 6 oz steak is a pretty small portion and I don't send things back, ever. I would have expected the seasonal vegetables to be fresh, however they were green beans and seemed to be from frozen as the texture and flavor were off. Finally, and this is really my fault for not reading closely... but I ordered a side of their Cougar Gold Mac and Cheese for $8. I was expecting it to be a smaller portion of their Cougar Lobster Mac, though it didn't specifically say Lobster, as I didn't see it listed as just mac and cheese elsewhere on the menu.... I assumed at the price point it would have been the lobster. It was very good, but was just a little disappointed. Overall, I do recommend this as a nice date night place.
Good ribeye and new York steak 😋 we like fish and fry too. Service was good. We visited several times during WOW week of WSU and enjoyed Coug burgers 🍔, birch wings, and pork chops. Very organized staffs to keep restaurant operations efficient. Bravo. Reservations recommended during WOW week and school events.
We stopped by for lunch as a group of 5, we had to wait a little bit, but not longer than 10 minutes. Spacious and calm atmosphere, we had crab cakes and reuben sandwich. They have a remarkably large selection of alcoholic beverages, and even wine from the tap. We went with 2 mules which is a great choice on such a hot day in Pullman
This place really does deliver one of the more consistent experiences dining in the area. An American comfort-bistro (?) menu -- which they only ever give you a QR code for, so you have to bring your phone to dinner :/ -- and a spacious, handsome space indoor and out, with both a dining area and a bar area. The food is tasty, great pretzel appetizer + fries; however I will say it feels like everything could be cooked a little longer ... ? The burger was quite rare. Our artichoke dip arrived pretty lukewarm ... as did the french dip. Definitely tasted good, it's just one of those details that makes a big difference in perception. Very pet friendly patio = good dog watching :)
I've been here a few times and have consistent experiences with good service. The burgers are great, but expensive. The rest of the food is just OK. They get all the ingredients right but somewhere along the way what should be a great meal gets cooked into an OK meal. If it was cheaper I wouldn't complain, but when paying $20 for a bowl of pasta it better be some great pasta, not just OK.
The cajun pasta did not impress. We also high dollar for the special appetizer, which had crab added to the spinach dip. It was served with 7 thin slices of bread. We asked for more bread, as the amount provided did NOT match the amount of dip. The server charged us $2.00 for the extra bread. While not a large surcharge, it’s the principle. Charging extra for an item that needed to be included, in appropriate amounts, with the dip that was ordered might be considered bad business. We chose not to return during our 2-week visit.
I ordered the salmon caesar salad and found it a little overpriced. The fillet was very small and it was obviously farm raised salmon. The flavor was pretty good, but I felt like I mostly just paid $18 for the lettuce. Our server also wasn’t very friendly. A mediocre dining experience.
Our server was wonderful and the food is very good. We came in with a large party that required a few table be moved around. As my husband walked out of the men’s room an employee said to him “ next time ask before you move the tables”. We had asked and the staff moved all but one of the tables. We moved the additional table to accommodate seating for all in our group. It was uncalled for and rude considering the size of our party and the amount of money the establishment made.
We had good service, good food and a nice spot to sit! Then we went to pay and were told there was a mandatory 8% tip added to our ticket for the people in the kitchen. If we want to tip our server that would be separate from the 8% auto-charge. Sad. It really put a damper on the experience and led us to not want to tip a much as we would have. Probably not a place we will go again.
We had steak bites and they was over cooked. They was dryed out and tough. The steak should had een moist but it was not. It was something you would get in a tru k stop. We let the server know she said she would make them aware of the poorly cook dinner. It seem like they could care less. I had the pork chop and it was ok but still over cooked. But had a good flavor.
This restaurant serves overpriced carnival food. The buffalo wings are processed chicken (comparable to McDonalds nuggets) that are merely reheated from their frozen state. The shrimp po-boy was also not impressive, consisting of oily small-shrimp and strips of lettuce, the likes of which can be found at taco bell. Their fries also seem to be reheated frozen fingers. While I am not against indulging in greasy carnival food, I am against paying such a high price for it. On a positive note, their steak sandwich was cooked well and seemed to be "real."
I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. And while the flavor was great, there was a very long hair in my food that I found about halfway through. For reference, it was an entirely different color and texture than my own.
Burned burger. Small amount of basic fries. Waiter did not stop by after the food was served to ask if everything was good. Typical college grade restaurant.
I called and got a Togo order: I ordered a birch salad. This is something I’ve ordered before both in house and Togo and absolutely loved. This time was different unfortunately. There was virtually no blue cheese, less than 5 walnuts and half of my spring mix was wilted. When I called the restaurant a young lady named Hannah, picked up and told me I’ll tell the kitchen your feedback but that’s all I can do. No apology, no option to make it right. It’s just disappointing.
I just had my second meal from BnB and there won't be a third. My first experience was dine-in at the bar where I experienced mediocre service due to a lack of overall engagement in a very mid-level lobster mac and cheese. This time I decided to try takeout, and the fried shrimp po boy was extremely missable. Dry hoagie, next to no sauce, small flavorless shrimp, too much lettuce. Next to no fries on the side. I've given them a good try and they have not lived up to hype around town. Bummer too, you guys need some good restaurants in this town..
Food was fine. They are now adding a mandatory 8% gratuity for the back of house staff and still expecting you to tip your wait staff. The waitress will spend a minute explaining that to you when they drop off the receipt. Asking for double tips when one meal is already $40 is pretty wild.
