Opinions de Blue Dot Cafe & Coffee Bar Alameda
Blue Dot is amazing. Gotta try their Artemis salad…named after Team Artemis when the World Cup was here in Alameda. Their coffees are great, as are their scones (love the almond ones but they’re all good) Support a local small business.
You can't beat this place for friendliness, reliability, and great coffee and breakfast food (best scones and decent bagels - as a former New Yorker I don't make that claim lightly!). It can get crowded on the weekends but that's a testament to their quality. Kind owners and conscientious staff make this one of my faves on the island.
The 3 hours atmosphere, old floor and laughs among staff are delightful. There I met one of my youngest pale of 3 years old randomly and it seemed to have been a memorable moment for her
Their quinoa porridge is my favorite! It's drizzled with honey and topped with walnuts and sliced banana. It's a very large serving! My only complaint is that there is a woman who works there who appears to be in a bad mood all the time. She's not really rude, she's just not very friendly. All the guys who work there are super friendly and nice!
Excellent scrambled eggs, bacon & toast.
Blue Dot Cafe is great for coffee and food. It can get busy during peak hours Ecspecially brunch time on the weekends. Its busy because it's good and the staff are friendly and working hard.
Great food and even better portions! It has an awesome mom and pop vibe. I love coming here for brunch with friends who don't know the Alameda area. Always a crowd pleaser.
Enjoy having breakfast here. Great neighborhood cafe
Avocado toast with feta and pickled onions … ooo yum. Didn’t take a photo but so good. Also ordered the regular scrambled eggs and sausages which was very decent. Nice atmosphere, lots of tables to work at or meet up with friends, though it does get busier after 9.
Wow! I have been wanting to go here for awhile and I am sooo glad I went! First of all the atmosphere is so cute! Different sized tables, in and outside and another section with a door open to the sidewalk. The food was delicious! I ordered the lox on everything and it hit the spot. Salty and perfectly proportioned. Flat white coffee was great and I ordered a blueberry muffin to top it off. Homemade and divine. Run, don’t walk here! 🫶🏻 I brought my laptop and was able to get some work done in a lovely place. I felt welcomed here as well, baristas were kind.
New update 02/07/24 Loved to have bfast or lunch here. They have daily special menu. Their scones are to die for. Not cheap but good food Very fresh healthy food. Lots of good baked goods. Good place to dine
Really enjoying this place. I've had a few meals because I work near by, but I've come in a few times as well now. The staff is always pretty nice. Especially the coffee maker person. Always clean tables. Lots of places to sit. The house made pickled onions on the avocado toast drive me wild! Fast service, clean restrooms, outdoor seating available. My only gripe is there are a weird amount of dogs every time I come to this place. So there's a bit of fecal visibility and noise while you eat/chat but not the restaurants fault. Definitely come check this place out. Bring your dog.
You just can’t get charm at Pete’s and Starbucks like you can get at a small coffee shop like this, especially when you walk in and see the owner sitting down working, you can taste the dedication to the business through each pleasant sip of my oat mocha. Customer Service goes above and beyond, making me feel welcome and desired to be there. They are very easy-going, and you feel it as soon as you walk in with many people enjoying meals at tables and laughing galore. You can tell that this coffee shop screams character charm. Closed Sunday and Monday, open five days a week until 130 get a chance to visit this lovely coffee shop and meet the wonderful owners and all of her employees. When it comes to coffee, I am always the customer that struggles with finding the perfectly balanced espresso drink. In my experience, it has always been too hot, to milky, or not milky enough, with past experience I always add a extra shot into my large mocha. Upon first sip, a smile formed from ear to ear as I surprisingly found my new favorite coffee shop. This is the only coffee shop really worth going to in Alameda. The beans are roasted perfectly, brewed At just the right time so that it gives off pleasant espresso aromas and thick Crema. The espresso taste pierces through the smooth velvety chocolate milk, evenly spreading throughout the pallet of my tongue, giving no bitter taste whatsoever. This drink does not need any correction. It does not need any added sugar, it does not need any more milk, it does not need to be heated up or cooled down, it is perfect, and honestly I did not think that existed in the world of coffee.
Really great coffee, breakfast/brunch spot. Friendly folks, casual hang out. Great for grabbing a bite, getting some work done or just to get some coffee. Lots of space for sitting, but during its popular times it could be hard to grab a seat.
This place is consistently so great. The staff are so awesome and the vibe of the establishment is so casual and chill. The food is phenomenal, my favorite is the poached eggs, bacon and toast. They have a coffee/tea bar so you can add sugar, Splenda or whatever they really have a selection which I appreciate. Wish there was a fairy free creamer option for the vegan/lactose people but other than that this place is a must and very easily became our fav brunch spot. Ps this weekend is Mother’s Day weekend and they were making the bacon in little flower shapes that is so creative and beautiful. Love the chefs here
I love this place, food and coffee always good. The owners and the staff are the sweetest ❤️

Cosy friendly cafe with the best coffee I've had anywhere in the Bay Area. Very laid back relaxed atmosphere. I felt welcomed in a quiet and accepting way. Fresh delicious food. Not only kid friendly, but dog friendly and people friendly. My kind of place.
Love this diner in Alameda. It's very much a cozy, friendly, meet up with friends or bring a book and read while sipping coffee or eating-type of place. Their food is very good; everything I've ordered isn't restaurant quality! I really enjoy their BLT and their oatmeal. Coffee is very good and pastries are delicious.
Love this neighborhood Cafe! Wish the hours were longer. Delicious, healthy tasting food.
Came here to do some homework and get some good food. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the hot cheese and the tomato soup. 10/10. The service was great. Everyone was super nice. The only thing that kind of sucked was the WiFi but that’s out of anyone’s control!
Everyone was so friendly. I was wondering what was going on, but I guess it’s just the atmosphere in here! Lol I ordered a chocolate chip scone , and it was absolutely delicious —sort of like across between a chocolate chip cookie and a scone!

Food is good, coffee drinks are well priced. Beware the matcha latte is sickeningly sweet and the sugar is in the mix so they can't unsweeten it
I love it, although I wish they had gluten free stuff. I also like it if they had things that were gluten-free with protein. I can only get one or two things there and even their eggs have gluten. For people that can eat gluten though, there are a lot of possibilities. It's a bit expensive but not too bad. Large portions.
I like this place, good options for breakfast and brunch. Their chai is great especially with oat milk! What I like: it’s spacious, enough plugs for anyone working long hours with their laptop What I don’t like: it’s a bit loud, and hot in the cafe, there’s also a weird BO smell in some areas of the cafe
Breakfast options favor sweet than savory -- waffles, baked goods vs eggs which are available only poached or part of a breakfast sandwich. Local artwork adorns the walls, free wifi, community atmosphere that is family friendly.
Food is always on point. However, being an open kitchen, I would like to see the preparers wear gloves when preparing the food. Seating area is a little small and you sometimes have to sit at a community table which is OK if you don't mind that kind of thing.
I had a bowl of oatmeal and fruit, and a side order of two scrambled eggs. Food was good. The cafe was very crowded, as it often is at the time I was there -- 9:30 to 10:30 am.
An easy and relaxing place to have breakfast or brunch. I love the choice of healthy offerings. Almost all versions of eggs come with a spinach and lower calorie option. The classics are also available. Great choices of coffee. Their cappuccinos are excellent.
What a cute cafe! I really enjoyed the local vibe here. Everyone is asked to bus their own tables, and the drinks were very good. I ordered an Americano. I would say that the breakfasts are not exactly worth the cost. We ordered an egg, toast, and sausage breakfast and that was something easily made at home for like 1/10 the cost lol. I'd come here to hangout and get drinks though!
A surprising find in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I avoided trying them for almost 2 years for no reason other than the lack of seating and how crazy it would potentially get if they got slammed. Boy, I wish I started coming earlier! Their food is delicious and they seem to have more seating by way of an auxiliary room to the side. Their baked goods on display at the counter were an exercise in resisting temptation. We tried their strata and the waffle with fruit. The waffle was nothing too exciting but my little one was thrilled at the amount of whipped cream, butter, and fruit it showed up with. My strata was an unbelievably light and fluffy affair with leeks and bread, and a wonderfully crisp top hat. The only downside to the meal was how their bacon showed up- little porky 'rosettes' they were rolled up and baked so it was baked unevenly, the tops done. Overlooking that small infraction, and the tight seating, especially at the communal table next to where folks in line are, we enjoyed our brunch. Hopefully you'll be as delighted as I was when you pay a visit. *bonus point for the employee wearing the DIJ shirt!*
Went here while I was waiting for someone. A cute cafe with lots of indoor seating. The dishes are all around $11-14. I just got a scone and a coffee and let me tell you, I would go back for a scone!! I had the feta spinach one and it was buttery delicious.
Really great little shop. The coffee is the highlight, it is truly so good! The breakfast is wonderful as well. I highly recommend the French toast. The staff is also friendly. The only thing that makes it a 4 is that all the savory breakfast really lacks seasoning. Definitely worth stopping in!
Though there's a great selection of eggy brunch items as well as pastries, my to go favorite thing to order is the BLT. The sandwich is overflowing with crispy bacon. The potato salad is good but under seasoned. Order the BLT only if you like your bacon very crispy. Please keep local businesses like this healthy by giving them your support and patronage.
Delicious and fast. Friendly staff. Covid Safety Measures: No Indoor Dining- order and pick up window. Staff wears masks. Customer masks required. Hand sanitizers available

This place has certainly improved since I was here last. The food is great and the atmosphere is charming. We had sandwiches and a savory scone, along with a coffee and a soda. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is small with some wooden chairs and a wooden banket. The sidewalk seating is also nice. Service could be improved a little. There were a lot of small inconveniences. Like, silverware bundles weren't all alike, and they will no longer heat up pastries.

So many positives, but the presence of a dog (being fed by its owner, of course) was unappealing. Not to mention a violation of health codes. ? (NOT a service dog.) Come on, there's no need for this- ask them to sit outside!
The cashier should be a happier person! I Experience bad attitude from her. Not attentive it all. The food was good but definitely greasy. The place is nice for a breakfast-brunch or work in your computer.
Good food and Coffee. This is a really informal place and sort of a hang out and I will come back again for the food but it can be very noisy or very quiet: I suggest you bring earplugs. Free wifi works but it's a bit slow. It's a really nice local place with different food then you might get elsewhere. I believe they have free coffee refills.
The coffee is good. The food menu is good albeit a bit limited. The service is ok. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I give it a good B for effort.
Banh Mi ...( It's all about the filling not about the bread) Focaccia bread needs to be thinner and by the way...when you serve potatoes chips ..serve the hole ones not the last of the bag all broken. Please do not sell a Pomosa anymore...not good and potato salad no good at all. other than that the place is nice 👍
I ate at Blue Dot on several occasions before the pandemic and just went back for breakfast for the first time since then. I was 100% disappointed. The best thing on the menu in the before times was a bread pudding french toast that is no longer available. I opted to order the only other interesting breakfast item, the chilaquiles, but was told they were unavailable. There were only about five breakfast options, so I ordered the pesto scrambled egg sandwich. The sandwich’s most prominent feature was the very mediocre bread, next was the pesto, and last was a tiny bit of flavorless egg. My side was a two grapes, half an unripe strawberry and two completely unripe pieces of honeydew melon that were inedible. My friend chose the eggs, bacon and toast. The bacon was fine but the eggs were rubbery and flavorless. My cappuccino was nice. The bill was $37 (I added a $3 tip, which was generous since I had to stand in line to place my order and get my own silverware and water and bus my dirty dishes). I will never go to the Blue Dot again.
they should definitely stop selling coffee. literally selling hot black water as coffee. but the atmosphere and banana bread is 10/10.

I’m done with this place. Yes, the food is good. That’s literally the only reason I kept coming back for years. But the owner, who also works here, is consistently rude, dismissive, and acts like customers are an inconvenience. The attitude is nasty, the social skills are nonexistent, and it ruins the entire experience. And for what? The food and drinks are overpriced for this area, so you’d expect at least basic respect and decent service. Instead you get treated like you should be grateful they’re taking your money. What really sealed it for me was overhearing another customer complaining about the same terrible treatment from the owner. So it’s not a bad day, it’s a pattern. After being a loyal customer for 10 years, I won’t be back. If you care about being treated like a human being, spend your money somewhere that actually values customers.
