Opinions de Sidestreet Pho Alameda
One of my regular Pho spots. Proper week-long broth, light and delicious and many configurations of meat and veg combinations. Great in-situ, delivery or take home. If you like spicy, request their home-made sour chili sauce that is on the tables in the restaurant (its delicious) and that they give you extra hot jalapeños as they seem to cater to a less spice-tolerant clientele.
We went there at 9 PM and had Bun bo hue and Bun rieu. The taste was so authentic (based on my appetite as a Vietnamese). My friend and I finished the whole thing and had a really good time. The staff were friendly and tried their best to deliver a warm experience, even though it was the end of their day.
Now, let's talk about the food. It's nothing short of a gastronomic journey through Vietnam. Each dish was a burst of authentic flavors that danced on my taste buds. The pho, with its rich, aromatic broth, and the fresh spring rolls, were especially outstanding. I can't wait to return and try more from their diverse menu.
My GF who is Vietnamese and I went for lunch. She is a vegetarian and found plenty of options...she commented how flavorful her veggie broth was in her pho, and I really enjoyed my seafood pho. We also had the salted plum soda and shared the banh xeo. It was the first time for me having banh xeo, and oh my, I absolutely loved it..all so delicious! Service was excellent, and we will definitely be back!!
Quaint little Phô spot in Alameda. Foxy the host has a great vibe, happy, hospitable, polite and friendly. Food was made to order, came out hot. Ordered the DAU HU CHIEN SA | Lemongrass Fried Tofu, Bún Riêu, the Phô Chin (brisket) and a Thai tea with coconut cream. Flavors are all great, bursting with flavor. Ambiance was chill, great date night spot, girls night out or to just hang with some friends. Try it out if you're in the area. Indoor and outdoor seating available.
The environment and service of this place was amazing. It’s is also in a walkable area. We ordered the P1 and the P2. The pho broth was great and the meat tasted pretty premium. The place was super clean and the server who greeted us and took our orders was friendly and super attentive. We ended up leaving eating everything there. We are at 11 and there wasn’t many people there which was nice. This place is definitely worth a chance if your in the area and want to eat lunch or dinner you should definitely try this place. Highly recommend. They also have outdoor dining which is nice.
Great ambiance, service , and food !! Love their chicken banh mi and beef / rice plate... Also their pho is so good!!!
I’m a Pho goer. This place is Rock!!! The taste is excellent. They make flavor with ingredients, not just fish sauce. So every bite of food is refreshing and scrumptious. I had Pho-sin(beef brisket soup). The brisket is cooked perfect and very flavorful. noodle was fresh and all add-on ingredients were fresh and crunch. Again, they made the broth perfectly, so you have no chance to get bored on each spoon. The price was $15 for regular, that I think it is impossible price in bay area with this quality.
Great BBH, Brisket/oxtail Pho, fried squid/calamari, good portions, deep and rich broth. Oxtail pho can get a bit greasy towards the end, but nonetheless delicious.
I’m sad that I live too far from this place to be able to enjoy it whenever I want because it’s that good, and I am not exaggerating. The food is delicious and every single item is packed with flavor, served fresh, and tasted better than you could even fathom. I came with my best friend who’s a vegan and she was able to order so many items like king mushrooms, spring rolls, fried rolls, and tofu. I tried it all and ordered a meatless pho, the broth is seasoned to perfection and the noodles taste homemade without a doubt. If you love passion fruit then their slushie is a must, so smooth. On top of the best food and pho, the customer service is top tier hands down. Anyways if you haven’t figured out that you have to go for yourself and try, then you’re missing out.
The shaken beef plate with garlic noodles was top tier, I will be back for it no doubt. The oxtail pho was a little difficult to get the meat off the bone for me tbh. Service fast and excellent on a Friday night! $90 for 2 people with tax + tip
5/5 for the Food and drinks, it was spectacular, great serving sizes and good variety! The variety of beverages and the cola’s they had! Rating 4/5 for Service since I can’t speak to the service when it’s busy, but it’s spectacular when it was not so busy. Food came out quick and they checked up on us often. Atmosphere 4/5, again it wasn’t busy so can’t fully speak to the vibe of the restaurant. But as it was calmer and slower it was a chill vibe. They had fun Vietnamese music playing!
My go to for the best Oxtail Pho in the Bay. If you're a Pho lover, you have to try this place. You can't go wrong with a Thai Tea or their ginger Lemonade either. One of Alameda's best restaurants.
Excellent food, drinks and service. Everything I tried was fresh and tasty. Outdoor seating for furry friends!
I usually get a Banh Mi to go but today I had Seafood Pho (delicious!) and Thai Ice Tea (with coconut cream and it was good! Not as sweet but yummy!) and the service was excellent - I felt welcomed and taken care of - super professional!
Side Street Pho is definitely one of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants on the island since 2014, the food reminded us of our childhood. We grew up eating Chinese and Vietnamese food. Instead of eating pancakes, we ate Bánh Xèo - Vietnamese Savory crepes as a whole meal, where everyone ate 2-3 each. The Bánh Xèo at Side Street Pho was so crispy and delicious, like how my grandma would make it. The Work—Broken Rice Plate was so yummy, a little bit of everything. The Bun Bo Hue was full of flavor, so good! Must order! It’s my favorite soup! Don’t forget their refreshing drinks! The Thai Iced Tea with Coconut Cream was so creamy and sweet; while the lemongrass-infused limeade was so refreshingly sweet and so good with the food.
We had Side Street Pho cater our holiday party in Oakland. The food was such a hit!!!! They even made sure everything was set up for our party!! I am so grateful for them. Thank you for the great service!
I went here with my mom and girlfriend for a special Mother's Day lunch. We had a fantastic time trying out different dishes and enjoying the flavors of Vietnam. Here's what we loved about our experience: We started with calamari and veggie spring rolls, which were so yummy! The calamari was crispy and flavorful, but we wished it came with the squid legs because they're the best part. The veggie spring rolls were fresh and crunchy, and we couldn't get enough of them. I also ordered the Thai tea with coconut cream, and it was delicious! It had just the right amount of sweetness and the coconut cream added a creamy touch. I really enjoyed sipping on it throughout the meal. Now, let's talk about the pho. Oh my goodness, it was amazing! They served generous portions of noodles when we dined in, which was great because we got more food that way. The broths were so flavorful, and each bowl was like a taste of Vietnam. We were really impressed. The service here was quick and attentive. The staff took good care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. It made the whole experience even better. The ambience of the place was like being in a traditional pho spot. It had a cozy and welcoming feel, and we felt comfortable right away. It added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. I highly recommend this place The food is delicious, especially the pho, and it's some of the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. If you're looking for a great dining experience with fantastic flavors, this is the place to go. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Perfect to warm your body and soul. It is a little pricer than what you’d find in SJ. The quality was excellent. Maybe skip the ginger tea it was pretty steep for $8 a glass. They do make it in house but I’m not sure it was a good value add. I w have picked a different drink.
Found this little gem in Alameda and couldn’t be more happy. Apps are fresh and delicious, Pho is as good as top notch spots and the staff was very attentive. Will definitely be coming back to eat soon :)
It's very welcoming. It may be small but not loud. Good place for any type of date. The menu is great. So much to choose from. The plating is beautiful. The food taste great. All veggies are really fresh looking and tasting. Customer service is excellent. This is my first time here. It will be a favorite place for future visits to Alameda. I've shared what we have ordered. I also have included the pictures of the menu. Also a picture of how much it cost for four of us. Please come try this place. It was a very random spot we chose to eat at before going to the beach. I have never heard of this place. It should get the recognition it deserves. (Side note: The restroom was extremely clean)

The shaved ribeye Pho is some of the best Pho I’ve ever had. I love Pho but usually hate the meat. This definitely elevated the Pho-going experience. The veggies are always actually fresh and delicious. It’s a small little spot that gets busy, but well worth it!
One of my favorite comfort food places in Alameda, Sidestreet Pho is both delicious and consistent. For those with dogs, there are a couple tables available outdoors w/heaters and hugely beneficial to dog parents. I've been here 10+ times and will continue to do so!
I have a gluten and soy allergy. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda! They have delicious for an amazing meat and vegetables and noodles. They are extremely good with allergies and have a lot of gluten-free options. They will work with you closely if you tell them any food, allergies that you have. The food is incredibly delicious and I go at least 2 to 3 times per week. The staff is very kind. The owner is very sweet. It’s an amazing place. I’m so grateful it’s so close to my house.
Food was delicious. We ordered Pho, Bone marrow on sliced bread, sweet donut and the wings. Everything tasted so good. Servers were pilot snd kept coming around to check on us and every table. Would definitely come here again

Very small restaurant, very expensive, food is nice. Soup is good. Prices very high for Vietnamese cuisine.
This review is only for the dessert. We always miss out on dessert and decided today will be different. We ordered the mango and green tea slushie. They were both really good. The mini mochis were soft and chewy without being overly sweet. There were a lot of ppl eating pho and other Vietnamese dishes. I would def come back again. Only street parking available. Sometimes u may need to circle a couple of times around...
Food taste was.good, and it's quite a large portion, we had the pancake flavour was good it was too oily but interesting and different , the vegan pho was good more veggies than wide rice noodles. But overall the flavor was good service was good, very limited parking space and there can be a wait especially on weekends.
My Sidestreet Pho review My reason I gave this place a four out of five star. I understand times are hard, and the restaurant decided to save on costs $$ by literally cutting corners. Their food and service is excellent. There is no complaints about that. I always have the oxtail Pho, it’s so delicious!!! Within the last year or so, I’ve noticed in the oxtail pho soup that the bone in the soup has been cut in half. It’s a little sad to think that this was the means of cutting the cost. Literally cutting the bones in half not even receiving the full amount of an oxtail bone. The other thing about that is there were tiny little slivers of bone fragments, that didn’t feel safe to sip the soup. So eat oxtail soup at your own risk. The photos are of my take out order, but I have experienced the same experience while eating at the restaurant and did not mention anything.
Just had the most incredible evening stroll through the neighborhood and stumbled upon a hidden gem! This place serves up Oxtail Phó like you've never tasted before. Imagine a 30-hour bone marrow broth infused with star anise, cinnamon, and other spices, topped with charred onions and ginger. Served with delicate rice noodles and garnished with fresh onion and cilantro – pure perfection! But before diving into the main course, I couldn't resist starting off with an appetizer of Bone Marrow on toast. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delish! The rich, buttery marrow paired perfectly with the crispy toast – a match made in culinary heaven. To wash it all down, I indulged in an A-Town Pale Ale Draft from the Island's very own Faction Brewery. The crisp, refreshing ale was the perfect complement to the savory flavors of the phó and bone marrow. Overall, it was an evening filled with delightful surprises and delicious flavors. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what this neighborhood has to offer!

This is a more upscale version of your typical Pho restaurant. I think the food is good. The pho noodles are thinner and round, not flat. They are plenty of choices. The price point is higher but so is the restaurant and service.

It was an okay experience eating here. I got the ribeye pho and the broth was quite oily but had decent flavor. I was displeased with the "ribeye" that was in the broth. It looked like some chewed up bits thrown into the soup and it was extremely chewy. The server was nice, but never bothered to check up with us after taking our order and bringing our food.
Food was good but like most other pho places. Not overwhelmed by it. Staff is super friendly. Prices are expensive. Haven’t spent so much for pho at all

Long wait. Thinking it was going to be something special. 3 other tables that weren't even seated yet got their orders before ours. Getting ready to walk out 35 min later. The warm soup came as I was putting my jacket on. Once eating. The owner/manager came to ask us how everything was. I explained everything to her as I have done here. She apologized and asked if their was anything that she could do. No thanks... She left and came back 10 to 15 minutes later and told us according to her staff...we only waited 15 minutes. Ok. Believe that. As we were getting ready to leave. The table next to us. Finished one plate they shared/hungry. And asked for other items they had ordered earlier. They had a baby....child and two adults. I had asked them if they got their stuff in a timely manner. They stated that they didn't. And were still waiting for items... There were plates there that looked good.... But from my experience. There are many other places to eat in Alameda other than having to wait on mediocre service and food.
So, several months ago, this was one of my favorite restaurants, and one of the best pho places in the Bay Area. Unfortunately the last 2 times I came the pho was super oily. I remember when there was no oil in the broth, delicious, healthy and tasty. Now it was a greasy mess. I dont know why but the restaurant seems to have ruined something really special.
Found this restaurant online called in order ordered oxtail pho and brisket pho only 2 small oxtails one was broken hardly any meat on them. Lady told me that there would be 4 oxtails not bones.I also was told to pay first over the phone and asked for a TIP ⁉️Wow 40+ dollars for two soups and the portions was very small the broth was pretty good but the add one very skimpy not worth the trip‼️
Overpriced & the most awkward service. I won’t be coming back. Do better. The servers only cared about utensil assembly (which should have been done before restaurant opened on Saturday evening).
