Randomly chose this place for lunch and it did not disappoint! Don't let the basement location and humble decor sway you. My husband and I each got the meal for one and the food is great; I ate my food so fast there wasn't time for picture. 😂 The service is good as well. I don't think anyone speaks very good english but we were still able to laugh.
We were a group of 5 looking specifically for a restaurant where my 10 yr old picky-eater could find something he liked and where he felt comfortable. We spotted this location and decided to give it a try. And we are glad we did! Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was quite fast and friendly. Perfect spot to experience San Francisco's Chinatown.
This Chinese restaurant is more authentic than others I was to in the past (and in Europe). The meals really taste good and even are better than the standard Chinese tastes I am used to. An indicator for quality should also be, that many Chinese locals visit the restaurant. Clean place, fast service, everything was fine.
Came across when searching Chinatown. Great hole in the wall underground restaurant. Food was fantastic! Chicken fried rice and the sautéed (crispy, honey) walnut shrimp was perfect. Atmosphere simple but friendly and cozy. Waiters nice and efficient. Nothing fancy, just good!
Had the chicken, low main wonton soup, and egg rolls. OMG it was so good! You should definitely try it
Amazing food. The Peking pork ribs was perfectly sauced and sweet and savory. The black bean fish had this great umami flavor. The vegetables were garlicky and refreshing. The staff were nice and friendly. Large portions. Definitely will come again.
Soooo delicious! And friendly staff! Food was the best I love food but this dishes were amazing.
If you like authentic Chinese food in a dive setting THIS is the place. I loved it! ( reminded me of our favorite NYC Chinatown place). When we entered it was all Chinese families eating there and our servers spoke very little English. Service was fast but not super helpful because of the language barrier. The hot and sour soup was delicious and quite spicy. My chow fun was awesome and the beef was very tender! And it was cheap!
I been a customer here since my middle school days since I have connections with the owner. They have the best salt and pepper chicken wings that I have ever eaten. Cool little underground laid back spot that offers authentic Chinese food and service. They have a vast menu packed with many delicious options. It can be packed at times since it’s affordable and yummy. Definitely I will be back!
Fun atmosphere...the food is wonderful. We had Orange Chicken and the Tomato Beef Chow Mein. Both dishes were very tasty!!! The Potstickers were really good too!!!
I used to always drive my grandma down to Chinatown atleast once a month. She wanted to get her $5 dollar haircut! I never told her I spent more money paying for parking down there than the cost of her haircut! However, she did treat me to dim sum or lunch here @ New Woey Loy Goey afterwards. My grandma helped me developed a weird taste for bitter melon and beef! Salt and Pepper pork chops are always good here. The oysters with ginger and scallion sauce is amazing! I've made a conscious effort to come down to Chinatown more often since the pandemic to support the hurting local businesses. I think grandma would be proud that I'm still ordering bittermelon w/ beef🤣
Came here looking for wonton soup and I was super impressed by their extensive menu. They had like 10 variations of wonton soup to choose from! Plus, a whole menu of about 20 different entrees for each type of meat you prefer. Beef, chicken, pork, fowl, seafood and vegetarian lovers will enjoy the available selections. The interior of the restaurant is fun to enter down a set of stairs. There’s a bar seating area where we sat, I just love bar stools. The rest is filled with tables that seat 12 with a lazy Susan or 6 or 4. Restaurant fits 63 people. I like how they have fresh seafood in tanks, makes the restaurant seem more authentic. Reasonably priced meals, served with warm oolong tea in blue plastic cups. We got the wor wonton soup, came with a little bit of everything including squid and bbq pork. Also got the sweet and sour chicken over white rice - served with a heaping amount of green peppers, sautéed canned pineapple chunks and white onions. If you want sriracha you have to ask for it. They may tell you they only have chili oil but they do have it so just ask :) Minimum credit card charge $20.
Woey Loy Goey is a neat Chinatown basement style restaurant. Staff speaks English. Tonight I ordered off the menu, a crispy tomato beef noodles $13. It came with a complementary house soup. The chef did a great job with my crispy noodles. It was crispy with a perfect mix of gravy. Some other places make this dish soggy ruining the crispiness. Staff was friendly and makes you feel like you are at home. The bonus for me was, sitting on the counter allowed me to watch TVB on their little 19" LCD TV. Good job my friends at Woey Loy Goey.
I walked in here with a friend of mine on a whim. We decided to try a few typical items to test the food out. We started off with (26) Hung Tao Yee Won Ton Soup. It was a simple egg drop soup with crispy wontons. The wontons had a nice flavor to them that paired well with the soup. Next, we tried (47) Tung Lok Special Chow Mein. It was basically a house special chow mein with shrimp, bbq pork, and veggies. The noodles had a nice QQ texture and it wasn't too greasy. There was good wok flavor as well! I saw (174) Spicy Salt & Pepper Pork Spareribs on the menu, so we usually end up trying the dish to see how the restaurant makes it. The food all came out pretty quickly, hot, and generous portions. The pork spareribs had good flavor and it wasn't over seasoned. Finally, I asked the owner what he would recommend that he thought was good, and he proposed (211) Lamb Stew In Pot. So, we added that to our order and that was definitely our favorite dish! The service was great, our tea and waters were constantly topped off, and the waitress chit chatted with us on each dish served. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying many more of their dishes!
Came here for a quick meal after the parade and it did not disappoint. As a local Hong Konger and a very big fan of 豉椒牛肉河 Black bean with pepper noodles, this was top notch stuff. Perfectly cooked noodles, delicious sliced beef, salty and flavourful. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to try something other than chow mein and 乾炒牛河, it is truly a delightful dish and an amazing place to try it at
Excellent authentic Cantonese food. Friendly staff. Recommend the salted fish fried rice, walnut prawns, and leafy vegetable in supreme sauce
This seems to be the oldest restaurant in this neighborhood. We ordered two appetizers, and both were so delicious, they were even much tastier than the Chinese food we had in Hong Kong. The staff were also very polite and they even brought us soup for free. :) *the food were too delicious that I forgot to take picture lol

Incredible! The food and service was terrific. We got the two person combo for $46, it came with an app, a soup & 3 appetizers!

Delicious traditional cantonese dishes. Great ‘wok hay’. Large portions and reasonable prices. Definitely recommend
Loved this place. Food was great. Service was fine. We didn’t have a conversation because they spoke Chinese and we did not but we managed to order and got our food. It’s Chinatown. I’m not sure how some of these reviews are mad about the lack of communication. Got our food and drinks quickly and loved the atmosphere. Lots of locals were eating there so it must be good right?
My cousin and I were looking around Chinatown for a place to eat at. We happen to eat here. Only us in the place to eat. We go in, and we order our drinks, my cousin orders a beer and I wanted a coca cola. For some reason, the guy gave me the same beer and no cola. I was a little puzzled at first, but it was no big deal since we both had water anyways. We ordered some food, and the service was quick. The woman waitress would come with the water pitcher often which was nice since I drank a lot of it. The food was good and stuffed me. We did wait for a while to get a check because the people were sitting eating. We did get attention from one of them to get the check. It should be a rule on at least one person keeps a look out for the customers while others eat. They didn't demand a huge tip like the other reviews mentioned. I may come back when I visit SF again.
This basement restaurant is surprisingly clean and orderly compared to many other restaurants of the same era in Chinatown. They have many lunch specials under $10, see photo of the menu. Our lunch special also comes with a free light soup and tea. Consider some restaurants are now charging $2 per person for tea (we need to boycott those). The waitresses are very friendly and helpful which is unheard of in Chinese restaurants 🤣
Hot tea. Hot flavorful food. Cold Budweiser. Friendly customer service. Clean bathroom. Everything was great except my water cup wasn’t too clean. They need a new dishwasher

Was recommended to point out that they mentioned it was one of the few chinese spots that had served food with a Hong Kong style flair. They had such great service that they catered to our every need. The lady who waited on us was attentive and kind. Her helpers were prompt and served us well. Our orders were... The chicken fried rice plate. From the lunch special menu. The roast duck over white rice. Roast pork with bean curds over white rice. Chicken cashew with vegeys over white rice. And Asian noodles with mushrooms. It was nice. I would recommend it.
Average. Average food in average Chinatown restaurant with average cleanliness. Not bad. The staff work really hard & fast running around. Value for money not bad. If this is the "New" restaurant, I'd hate to go to the 'Old' one! 😆. Please 👍 if accurate or helpful! 🙏
16-Sept-2018 This is a family style restaurant, like most here in Chinatown, SF. An unassuming location, downstairs off the main street. They have one combo geared towards a single diner.... I'm travelling alone this trip and had hoped for more options in Chinatown for a single customer. The restaurant is clean and seems to be well run.. I didn't wait to long and was well attended sitting at the bar/counter. Tables are for larger parties. I can understand that. The quality of the food is good, but not the best I've had. NYC Chinese food tends to spoil a person. The fried rice was very good. But the egg roll was really a veggie spring roll. I DO NOT LIKE SPRING ROLLS. So when the menu says egg roll I expect a real egg roll. That was disappointing. The sweet & sour pork was well prepared but lacked strong flavor. The wonton soup was OK... Wonton were more like small shumai and not nice big thick pork filled noodles like a real wonton should be. Overall the meal was OK, but I had much higher expectations for a Cantonese style restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. With so many other options available , I won't be back any time soon.
Very average Chinese place located in Chinatown. The workers were all watching TV when we walked in but maybe because it was before 5pm. We got the salted fish chicken fried rice and a fried noodle. It came out rather quickly and taste was ok. The beef in the noodle dish was tough but still edible.

We waited 20mins for a table which was okay, but was sat without food for 40mins. First dish came out after 40mins of waiting, but then the rest didn’t even come out 30mins after. Had to budge the servers multiple times and saw a bunch of groups that came in after we came in yet finished their entire meal before ours even came out. Didn’t even get comped for it. Food was okay, but wouldn’t recommend this place during busy times because they’re very understaffed.
We went because of the Eater recommendation and were SO disappointed. The food was bland and not good (except for the fried oysters). They forgot one of our dishes and refused to cook it for us when we asked about it. The wouldn’t let us split the check, and they literally told us to leave as soon as we paid! It was so rude it was funny but serious, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. I live within a 20 minute walk of Chinatown and have loved many other restaurants - go to those instead!
Definitely regret eating here. Food was greasy and left me with an irritable tummy. Service felt rushed and I could hardly understand the waitresses accent. Do not recommend.
We stopped here to eat during our tour of Chinatown in SF. I see a lot of good reviews here, so it might be just me but I wasn't able to eat any of the meat because I felt that it was too chewy, bland and undercooked. But I did enjoy the soup and the vegetables.

Don't go to this restaurant. You will not have a good experience -- whether you're from San Francisco or from out of town. Their food is oily and salty. But, that's normal in Chinese restaurants. Their bathroom is very dirty (all wet inside). That's also normal for a Chinese restaurant. Their staff is rude. That's also normal in San Francisco. Add all those together and multiply it by 10 and that's what you have at this restaurant. I've been to this restaurant a couple times, and each time it gets worse. So, this is the last time I'm going there. What happened this time was the last straw. I ordered a couple of items to go. One was catfish with hoisin sause. Easy enough. When I went to pay, the catfish came to about $28 ($14/lb). I didn't complain at the time. When I took it home, I looked the dish. The fish was small. It looked no bigger than 1.5 lbs. I weight it, it was 1.2 lbs. That's with the sauce and container and everything. Even if you add the gut, it would not be 2 lbs. I know, I buy a lot fish. I called the restaurant and explained it them. They did not apologize or felt sorry in any way. In fact, they yelled at me! I went ahead and ate the fish for dinner. It had no taste and was tough, like it was a dead fish, not a fresh fish. I know the texture because I buy and cook a lot of fish myself. One other thing, twice they did not give me a receipt for my order. They don't itemize and just make up the price as it goes along. This place is very tricky and will cheat you. They don't deserve our business. We don't need Chinese restaurants that give Chinese restaurants a bad name.
Food was good for the price, but our service was terrible, and my girlfriends water cup had weird snotlike gunk on the rim. We were one of only three tables in the restaurant, but we still had to wait 30 minutes for our check. The owner eventually came over to give us boxes. When all was said and done and we were walking out of the restaurant, I looked at my receipt only to discover that our server had gone ahead and given herself a six dollar tip without my knowledge. All in all not a good experience, the middling food is not worth the hassle.
I used to come here a lot with other long time Chinatown friends in the past 30 years. I decided to see what was going on and give it a chance despite some recent questionable reviews.... Those reviews were not that far from the truth. The most relevant thing that I observed was that there is NEW management. Not only was the service unhelpful, the, I presume, the owner, not knowing a lick of English, using some translation app with me and other customers, the price being jacked up by A LOT (not only compared to the past, but also to surrounding restaurants), but most importantly, the food was very unappetizing compared to how it was in the past 5+ years. It took a long time for my dish to come out despite there being barely anyone in the restaurant. I am pretty sure that not only is there new management, but I think the people working in the kitchen have left too. I think it might be wise to try another restaurant in Chinatown now, given the many options. Pretty disappointing it has come to this...
I was looking around for food after a long day with my family visiting Chinatown. We looked at the menu outside the restaurant and thought that the food was OK for the price. That was a huge mistake. Extreme bait and switch. We ordered the items and it took a while to come out even though there was no one else eating. The food was not that hot either. The bill came out a lot more than the advertised price outside... at least 5 over each item. We were also charged for TAP water, which was a first for me. They still had the audacity to ask for more tips... Maybe we should have checked out the many other restaurants down the street.
I brought my family out to have a Peking Roasted Duck for Christmas dinner. The place was busy but we were sat within 10 minutes, we put our order in with our waitress, she repeated it to us to confirm it. My kids ordered lemonade & an orange soda (in a can) which came out after our first dish arrived. My wife & I had tea, then our second dish came out, the our third & fourth. We ordered Peking Duck, Mongolian beef, wontons, orange chicken, cashew assorted medley & Tung Lok special chow mein. We kept waiting for our Peking Duck & it never came! Nor did the Mongolian beef. There was a very nice lady (who did not work there but was helping out) who explained that the waitress forgot to put in our order & now they were out! They did not offer to comp anything for their mistake & just said sorry, so sorry, sorry & gave me the bill for what we did eat. Christmas dinner may not mean anything to these people but it does to our family, we will not be recommending this place to anyone, ever!
Worst service in my life !! After eating they demanded a very big tip And didnt let us leave Not recomand!
