Project Burger was a surprise and delight. My friend and I ate at this casual but extremely tasteful diner Saturday evening; and though it was early, our experience there made me conclude that it should be much busier. The bent wood slatted walls, the long booth with cushions and bolsters in earthy greens, yellows, and grays, the dark green and burgundy walls, and the little architectural touches were a pleasure to examine as we waited for our food. The owner of this little gem of a place has many talents. My locally grass-fed beef burger on a locally made bun was absolutely delicious and grilled to perfection; and the abundant kale Caesar salad I substituted for fries (for only a dollar extra) had real Caesar dressing made with anchovies. Excellent. I tasted my friend’s home-cut fries, and they were fresh and wonderful. He was very pleased with his vegetarian burger, too. The locally made sodas topped off an unusually good meal. I never write reviews; but I had to break my mold for this occasion.

After passing by countless times, we finally got a chance to check out Project Burger. And we're glad we did! Ended up getting treated to burgers that we're so big that had to be cut with a knife. Chicken sandwiches have got a ton of meat as well, and everything is fresh to order. Definitely going to make this a regular spot!

Love that their veggie burger is freshly made. Hate it when places use frozen patties. This one is delicious. And love picked radishes to top it off. Also appreciate that they use fresh cut potatoes for their fries. And a yummy stout beer to take it down with. Don't be fooled thinking that they are closed....they just haven't gotten the big sign done out front yet. Good food, full bar. There is no reason this place shouldn't be full every night. Why are you going to any other burger joint in town?

This is the best burger place in Alameda, period. I usually get the Wagyu burger with fries, but yesterday I also got a salad. The salad was just as amazing as the burger and fries. And the service is the best! I highly recommend this place!

Best burger spot I’ve been to. Great portions, delicious food and really friendly owner. I can feel he takes pride in his work. Probably the best place to eat in Alameda.

My husband and I went here for super bowl Sunday.I was not in the mood for meat. I ended up ordering the garden salad it comes with a vegan dressing. I had requested ranch dressing but I'm soft-spoken and I don't believe the waiter heard me. I'm super happy he didn't because I loved the dressing. It was some sort of tahini mix. Very good and I am not a vegan by any means. my husband and I were caught up watching TV. We didn't realize that they were closed until they started cleaning behind the bar. Highly recommend for vegans and meat eaters alike! Great service!

I love Project Burger. It is a one man operation with a great owner. Very friendly with good service. The atmosphere is excellent for a relaxing meal after work.

The Kafta Burger was the best burger I’ve had in over a year!! The flavor was incredible and so big I had to cut in half to fit in my mouth.

M
Margo Dunlap

Very tasty burgers. House sauce is a stand out. Love it! Creative toppings like pickled turnips and favorites, like grilled onions, make a great burger. Good selection of local beers. Creative chef cares about serving great comfort food.

M
Manu Gujrati

Surprisingly delicious!!! Holy cow! Their Turkey Club is literally the BEST TURKEY BURGER I’VE EVER HAD! Even their salad was fresh and flavorful. Added a grass fed beef patty on top for protein. The owners are the nicest :-)

Husam, the owner, is a great guy and runs a great burger joint next to the movie theatre. Good burger. Good service. Always recommend. Can get slammed at lunch time for Alameda High. Come before you got to a movie.

We had put off going here because Scolari’s is so close, but we’ve been missing out! My burger was ridiculously good, and the side salad has this incredible dressing on it that I could eat with a spoon. It was also the size of a main dish! Amazing. My kids’ food was brought out already cooled down - such a kind, thoughtful touch. We ate every bite. We’ll definitely be back!

D

Grass fed burger was huge and delicious. My friend had the fried chicken sandwich and it was great, too. Pistachio milkshake and a cold IPA topped it off. I've only been once, but I live down the street and I'll definitely be coming back.

World class burger with an even better owner who treated us like family! Definitely make sure you are prepared to walk away (or roll) absolutely stuffed.

Had a lamb burger and a house salad, SO GOOD! The tahini dressing on the house salad was out of this world, and the pickled onions and yogurt dressing on the lamb burger were 🔥. Definitely recommend.

Ok, so this place is imperfect. There were a few things on the menu that were unavailable and the service was not particularly fast. Don't go if you're in a hurry. That being said, who I presume was the owner was very personable and doing everything himself. The burger I had was the black and blue and I ordered fries. I prefer my fries a little crispier but they were still good. But the burger? It was outstanding. Probably one of the better burgers I've had in a long time. Truly delicious! When I took my fries home, the owner expressed happiness. They are handmade and he takes pride in his work. If you don't finish your fries, take them home and crisp them up later in your air fryer if you have one. I will be back.

Great burgers and amazing fries. It's a one man show and quality takes time. Other than the wait, we love this place. Top two burger place in Alameda.

Stop. Do not go anywhere else in alameda for a burger. This is the place. Quality ingredients, grand portions, unpretentious and delicious!

J

The burger is divine! The proprietor is humble, generous, and clearly skilled at his craft. Will be back.

This is the most underrated burger spot in the East Bay. There's a bar and beer, but the burgers are amazing. I've had almost every one, and the best burger you'll ever have without bacon or cheese is the Kafta burger. Custom, wagyu, California, Bacon & Blue cheese, and even the fries regular or sweet potatoes fries. Great spot to have friends and enjoy great beer and a huge burger.

A
Adreana Langston

Burgers are tasty, portions are large, prices are reasonable. The halal lamb burger is especially good. Fries are fresh cut potatoes. The short order cook is the actual owner and you can tell her truly cares if ppl are enjoying the food. Heads up, if you're a germaphobe this joint is not for you. I personally do not care but the owner/short order cook does not wear a hairnet/hat or gloves while preparing food.

M
Meghan Musnicki

This is hands down the best burger joint in the East Bay. When we decided to try this place a year ago we were blown away. Hassam makes a mean burger. French fries (sweet potato or regular) are always fresh cut and freshly fried. My go to is the turkey burger on a lettuce wrap. My husband’s go to is the California burger; you can’t go wrong.

B
Brewster Malevich

Burgers are lovingly made. The service was great. I would happily eat here again!

J
Jennifer Glithero

I had the California burger and salad. It was very good. Well done, good flavor. Massive sized. Barely finished the burger and had to take the salad to go. Great and friendly service too. Cant wait to go back and try another burger!

I've been here twice and I think it's my favorite burger in the Bay Area! The owner is funny and obviously proud of what he creates. My medium rare burger was cooked perfectly with a ton of avocado and bacon. The fries are fresh and yummy. High quality food!

This has become our favorite burger spot in Alameda, and that didn’t happen by accident. First: the food. The burgers are ginormous—the kind where, if the owner hears you’re still hungry, he takes it as a personal challenge. Black & Blue burger? Excellent. Mama Mix? A go-to. Fish tacos, chicken sandwich, milkshakes—everything is consistently good. He knows how to do both spicy and not-spicy well, with real flavor, not just heat and does his best to adapt his menu to accommodatediet preferences. We’ve reached the point where we sometimes just say, “Surprise me,” and it always works out. Then there’s the service, which honestly sets this place apart. Some of the best customer service we’ve ever experienced—on the phone and in person. Very personable, very human. He knows how to engage warmly, but also how to step back and let families or groups just enjoy their time together. Community-minded in a way that feels genuine, not performative. He supports local art (including kids’ artwork), keeps the bathrooms clean, and has a couple of cozy seating areas—including a back space with TVs near the bar area. He’s essentially a one-stop shop: cooking, customer service, running the place himself. You might see a helper occasionally, but it’s mostly just him—and it shows how much care he puts into everything. What really sealed it for us is how kind he is with kids—letting them peek at the cooking process when things are calm, explaining what he’s doing, treating them with respect. We only come in about once a month, so we’re not even “regular regulars,” and we’re still treated like neighbors. Big-hearted, community-focused, and serving some of the best burgers around. Highly recommend.

Nura Sediqe

This is top 10 best burgers we’ve ever had, and we travel often! What’s particularly sweet was that I was observing a religious fast and the owner was aware and brought me over a free appetizer so that I could break my fast. That’s the kind of customer service you just don’t get everywhere. We will be coming back, and you should too!

I had an amazing experience at Project Burger on Alameda Island. The burger was truly top-notch, made with fresh ingredients and packed with bold flavors. The atmosphere was welcoming and stylish, making my meal even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a gourmet burger experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This is the best burger I’ve had in the Bay Area. Might even be the best I’ve had ever. The sauce is amazing, they don’t skimp on the pickles, the burger is charred perfectly. It’s basically 10/10 on all fronts. The service is super fast, and it’s not one of those BS gourmet burgers. It’s a true classic burger. Do yourself a favor and just go here if you’re reading this review.

DEFINITELY a well-built burger. And I do mean well built. It tasted like they put some Real LUV (to quote Jody Watley) in the process. Interestingly they offer real sugar soft drinks not the crap sodas that are typically offered. I threatened the owner that I would come back, I'll make good on that sooner than later

Hasam is a gem. He makes mean burgers, and I always get the lamb burger. It is very reasonably priced. Also, he stocks soda from a company that uses only real cane sugar- no high fructose corn syrup junk here. The fries are fresh and tasty. I cannot recommend Project Burger highly enough. If you are nearny and/or going to a movie next door at Alameda Theater and Cineplex, do yourself a favor and grab a burger and beverage here first.

My partner and I dropped in at project burger one night when we were craving a good burger. The owner was very welcoming and quickly took our order, he was also cooking and serving the food all by himself which I thought was very impressive. I ordered the classic grass fed burger and my partner tried the mixed burger with lamb and beef. The burgers were so big, I had to give the rest of mine to my partner. The buns were thick enough not to fall apart while eating the burger and they had a nice crunch to them. My favorite part was the sauce that came with the burgers it was so yummy! We also ordered a basket of fries to share and the portion was very large for those as well. I feel like we definitely got our money's worth and left feeling very full. We will definitely be coming back very soon!

Okay, I'm a burger enthusiast. A serious one, who's guilty of working a burger pop-up on the side. So, trust me when I say that I know my burgers. Yesterday, I visited this local joint with my girlfriend and our fur baby (yes, they're dog-friendly - outside seating for the win!), and it was nothing short of delicious. Now, as a burger-aficionado, my order was a no-brainer: a grass-fed burger with that classic American cheese, hand-cut fries, and a fountain drink made with locally-sourced Alameda sodas. Remember, folks, a real cheeseburger's charm lies in that perfectly melted American cheese! Here's where it gets impressive: the one-person army – the cashier doubling up as the chef. And, no, he wasn't just a stand-in; he was genuinely kind and helpful. Kudos to you, sir! The burger was a masterpiece! Picture it: the buns, toasted to perfection, offered a slight crunch that contrasted well with the juicy, medium-rare patty. The toppings were fresh, and the house sauce – oh, the house sauce! It was flavorful, perfectly balanced, and did not overpower the burger's essence. And the cheese, it was beautifully melted, enhancing the rich beefy goodness. I must say, it wasn't just a burger; it was well-crafted with balanced flavors and textures. Each bite was delicious, echoing the care and technique that went into its creation. I'm already craving it again. The fries were also yummy too, and the secret? They're brined! I'm already planning my next visit, intrigued by the Kobe burger on the menu. If your heart (or stomach) is craving a great burger, I couldn't recommend this place enough. It's not just the food; it's the whole experience that leaves you wanting more. So, grab your favorite people (and furry friends), and head over for a night of yummy burgers!

So chill and good vibes. These burgers are amazing. We got a regular burger for the kiddo and I ordered the lamb burger (mamas mix) it was so good. Juicy and all the flavors you can taste from the meat to all the condiments, to the sauces. So good!!! Highly recommend

Hands down this is the best burger in the Bay. I stumbled across Project Burger in 2019, and have never been disappointed. The 1/2lb, grass-fed beef patty is cooked to order and is on point every.single.time. The fries are fantastic, with the right ratio of crisp outside to soft inside. Husam, owner and primary chef, is the best. He knows his regulars’ and semi-regular customers orders. my order even after leaving the Bay for several years. How this place isn’t slammed every night confuses me every time I go. Which is to say eat well and support an awesome local business owner.

I found out about Project Burger from a fellow yelper. The first time I was there was last Saturday, March 23, 2024, after leaving Park Social Cannabis Dispensary. I was hungry and needed to get something to eat. I stopped in at Project Burger. They serve burgers, fries, shakes, malts, fountain sodas and two types of salad. Eats: California burger for $12.95 (excluding tax). For anybody with a hearty appetite, I recommend this burger - thick and humongous. It is a half pound beef pattie with cojita cheese, romaine, spring mix greens, sliced tomatoes, sliced avocados, sliced red onion, house sauce (mild or spicy). The fixings come in a separate tray. A parchment paper is layered between the bun and the beef parties. The burger was bomb-diggity good. It took me almost 45 minutes to finish that burger. So delicious was that burger, I returned three days later to buy two California burgers to go.

Flew from Texas for Sleep Token & ended up at Project Burger in Alameda — The burger? YEESSSSSS — juicy, flavorful, perfectly seared, with that buttery toasted bun that just melts right. Fries? Golden, crispy, and seasoned perfection . The staff was genuinely kind — not “corporate nice,” but real-people nice — the kind that makes female travelers feel completely at ease. The vibe was calm, cozy, and safe (which means everything when you’re traveling solo or as woman). Easy parking too, park in the garage….$3 for 4 hours ~after 5pm posted free. no sketchy side streets, just chill, good energy from start to finish…and walkable streets to look around the area. And……. let’s be honest — once iii gets a bite of these burgers and hand cut fresh fries, he won’t be asking for late-night pizza post-concert (Portland ) munchies ever again. 🍔😅🤘🔥

I’ve walked and driven past Project Burger countless times, and I’m so glad I finally stepped inside. This place is a hidden gem. The cook (who seemed like the owner) is a true professional—everything is made fresh to order with high-quality ingredients and thoughtful seasoning. What really stands out is the service; there is a genuine willingness to customize your meal exactly how you like it. If you’re clear about what you want, they deliver—often with an extra touch of care. While the interior could use a boost in branding, lighting, and signage to match the quality of the food, don't let the modest exterior fool you. Alameda has stiff competition for burgers, but Project Burger is a top-tier contender you shouldn’t miss.

And……. let’s be honest — once iii gets a bite of these burgers and hand cut fresh fries, he won’t be asking for late-night pizza post-concert (Portland ) munchies ever again. 🍔😅🤘🔥

Best burger in Alameda. We love them. Always friendly and the food is delicious. The very is very nice guy. We will come back.

We had the California burger. Here's a picture! It was large, fresh, and damn solid. Fries were thicker and we're a bit soggy, but that's still good - it's a French fry. Wait time was a tad long but next time I'm there I can go over to he connected bar while I wait for my made to order beef sando. They have some local soda here which was great as well.

Decent burgers for their price. Not exactly Bay Area crazy but not exactly cheap either. I like how they have halal options.

Director’s Cut offers a satisfying burger experience, with juicy and delicious burgers that hit the spot. The fries are regular but pair well with the meal. A solid choice if you’re craving a no-frills, tasty burger. Might be the owner or the employee but he was originally from Jordan and he was so kind!

The service is cafeteria style, order at the kiosk and then have the food delivered, similar to Carl's jr or Scolaris. The food is okay - the burgers are beef they do have large portions but the ingredients are average and there is no magic in the assembly of the product. The location is convenient and friendly with some intentional audio design. I did notice there are not a lot of mobile orders, and the food is a little expensive.

An average burger. I had the bacon blue cheeseburger. A bit too much blue which made it salty. Hard to compete with Scolari's except you can dine there.

Updated Review - my initial experience at Project Burger was excellent, and earned it a 5 star review, but tonight’s experience was honestly a waste of time and money. We placed our order at 6:20pm and it took till 7:10pm to get our food. The owner is also the order taker, cook, and table buser; and the restaurant was busier than the day we initially dined. If business continues to do well he honestly should hire one other person to help with order taking and bus tables. Additionally, customers who placed their order after us received their food first. When we finally received our food the whole meal seemed like it was made in haste. Very poor quality cook on the burger patty itself. My patty was undercooked on the inside, and the exterior was burnt (meaning he had no control of the heat on the stove, it was set too high so the outside cooked faster than the inside.) My boyfriend’s patty was completely raw looking, he refuses to complain when we eat out; but I offered him airborne when we got home to kill any potential germs from the underdone patty and he took me up on that offer. Additionally, the owner/ cook totally ripped us off on the fries. We ordered 2 sides of fries with our burger, costing an additional $5.95 each. He came out with one tray of fries and said “I made enough for the both of you.” Respectfully Sir, what you gave us to share was the single order of fries that you price at $7.95. We were not served $12 worth of fries. Waiting 50 minutes for our food to be served undercooked & burnt patties, and get ripped off on fries is absolutely unacceptable. We didn’t even get compensated in some way for patiently waiting without a single complaint as long as we did. Docking to a 2 review due to lack of consistency for a return visit. If you want better service and good food - go on a week night no one cares to really dine out on. If you walk in and the place is busy leave (unless you see he’s hired help) it’s not worth it.
